I need to give propaganda for schmetterling.
So it comes from the word schmetten, meaning cream. It was an old belief that
1. Butterflies drank milk
2. Witches would turn themselves into butterflies to steal dairy products
So we essentially named them cream thing because of a myth.
It’s also just very lovely to say. Like I can’t explain why, but like nice mouth feel.
That's a really interesting etymology, nice!
