You know, I was just thinking about the UA entrance exam.
Specifically, how terribly designed it is, but not for the reason they seem to give in the story itself.
Like, here's how it is: Aizawa is shown criticising the UA Entrance Exam once, during the Sports Festival. And the ONE criticism he makes, is that the use of Robot enemies during the exam would disproportionately affect people whose Quirk work against biological opponents, essentially.
His one criticism, is that the exam is not designed to also cater to people like him, and that's it. The way therefore it's set up, it'd be logical to assume he'd ask for a restructuring to the exam to remove the Robots and substitute them with live enemies, possibly Ectoplasm clones.
This is never brought up again, aside from maybe a stealth bring up during the mid term exams when they switch the exam from fighting robots to fighting teachers.
The exam is, and I just got to it myself while watching this video about how Copaganda paints police training and the relative risk police officers face on the job, set up in a very specific environment:
An empty town, where what is essentially a murder spree is taking place. The ONLY entities in the place, outside of fellow examinee, are robots that have been literally designed to attack everyone on sight, and that need to be destroyed to pass. The points granted from saving people are hidden, so they can be more "genuine" of course, and are, ultimately, also part of the problem.
Because here's the fucking thing.
When the fuck is that ever going to happen.
When the fuck, is a superhero, after their 5 years of Hero training in high school, then entering the work force without a need for a decree in higher education, ever going to find themselves in an environment where they can use LETHAL FORCE on civilian targets? With no restraint or care for collateral damage?
And where they are ENCOURAGED to kill as many criminals as they can, and NOT collaborate with other heroes? Because that's another thing, you need to steal points from other people to pass, by culling the number of limited robots, much like heroes are paid by the arrest and by popularity.
You do understand how fucked up that starts to sound right? The other, the enemy, is reduced as a caricature Droid from star wars, there only to kill and destroy, and against whom your only TWO methods of defeat are outright destruction or sneak attacks on their off buttons.
And here's the cherry on the shit too, because, AGAIN, when is that EVER going to be the case?
Do you know how many heroes show up in the first villain attack in BNHA?
Five.
Two are engaging a purse snatcher, three are doing crowd control, the Slime Villain, who may I remind you was guilty of robbery at a convenience store before he got the hostage, gets THE NUMBER ONE HERO, as well as those same FIVE heroes involved, of which only BACKDRAFT is actually doing anything.
Now, imagine you are a hero school, and you produce 40 heroes a year, just like every other hero school out there. How many of those heroes will see active duty, if the rate of crimes demand FIVE heroes to react to ONE criminal?
And people will say "but EDS, this mentality is later rewarded when All Might retires and it all falls to shit," Except NOT REALLY, because that's an externally forced situation caused by, and I can't stress this enough, a hundreds of yeas old NEET boomer who read too many Doctor Doom comics as a kid and decided to become a supervillain, the riots, the open air warfare, is only caused by AFO forcing the hand and inciting popular unrest, which is an unrealistic thing to expect off any society.
In one of the movies, Class 1-A is sent to open an hero agency on a small island with barely a village on it. 20 Heroes. Until the movie truly picks up, the best they do is help kittens from trees, and Bakugou, the sort of person for whom the Entrance Exam was designed, is useless, left in his tent like Achilles, the perfect cowboy cop who peeked in highschool and didn't realize just how much paperwork and dead time his dream job actually entailed.
So that's the ACTUAL Issue with the entrance exam. It take no account for any other mean to beat the robots but brute force, it takes no account for collateral damage, or the sanctity of life of your opponents, and it tests nothing but how good at ending lives you are.
Which is a problem when you're picking future heroes.

All the dramas I’ve watched in 2020
These are all the dramas that I watched in 2020, with some review there should be NO Spoilers. I think I watched a lot more than usual probably because what else am I supposed to do between school and quarantine. So this is gonna be a long one...
Crash Landing on You (Lee Jung-hyo, 2019-2020)
Main Leads: Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin
Episodes: 16, 70 to 110 Minutes
Thoughts: I enjoyed this drama, and it was a good one to start 2020 with. I thought it was a perfect blend of romance, comedy, heartfelt, found family, action, and some tragedy. I would highly recommend it, especially for those who are new to Kdramas. Also fun fact this is my first Hyun Bin drama. Rating: Fun and adorable
Tale of Nokdu (Kim Dong-hwi, 2019)
Main Leads: Jang Dong Yoon and Kim So Hyun
Episodes: 32, 35 minutes
Thoughts: I actually started watching this when it was airing but I stopped around episode 13 because of my busy schedule and finished it in the new year. I adore the main couple, the romance, comedy, the found family, and the women center story. I thought it shined the brightest when it was focused on the group and its funny and warm moments but once it got too political it kinda fell flat. I loved the ending, however. Also, I really like Jang Dong Young as an actor, I saw him in Solomon’s Perjury (2016) and Mr. Sunshine (2018) and I loved how he played Nok Du too. Rating: I love a women’s only widow village
I’ll Find You When The Weather is Nice (Han Ji-seung, 2020)
Main Leads: Seo Kang Joon and Park Min Young
Episodes: 16, 60 minutes
Thoughts: I really liked this drama, probably one of my favorites this year. As you will notice I enjoy quieter and more slow-burn stories. Also, I am a fan of Park Min Young she tends to pick more interesting and strong-willed female roles, so it is really enjoyable to watch.  Rating: makes me want to own a book store.
King: The Eternal Monarch (Kim Eun-sook, 2020)
Main Leads: Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun
Episodes: 16, 70 Minutes
Thoughts: Confession; I am actually not the biggest fan of Lee Min Ho, nothing against him I just hate rich bratty characters and he tends to play them. However, I surprisingly really liked his character, he wasn’t a rich brat he actually was likable. I also really like Kim Go Eun, she is actually one of the main reasons why I watched and also with all the hype around it. Woo Do Hwan, who I have always liked, stole the whole show, however. I didn’t hate it like a lot of people, I really liked the characters, I liked the romance and the action. Also, Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun’s hugs were absolutely fabulous. It wasn’t my favorite and there were too many product placements, but I don’t think it was the worst drama this year. Rating: Lukewarm
A Piece of your mind (Lee Sang-yeob, 2020)
Main Leads: Jung Hae In and Chae Soo Bin
Episodes: 12, 70 minutes
Thoughts: I actually really liked this drama despite the low views, again I’m big on slow burn stories and character focus. I believe the episodes were cut from 16 to 12 I don’t know exactly why maybe because of the Pandemic or due to viewership or a mixture of both. Despite its being cut short I really liked the ending, and I thought the two leads were sweet. Rating: Wish we had more time to develop the characters.
Its Okay not to be Okay (Park Shin Woo, 2020)
Main Leads: Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Yea Ji and Oh Jung Se
Episodes: 16, 70 to 85 minutes
Thoughts: Out of all the dramas I talked the most about this one. I have always been a fan of Seo Yea Ji since Save Me (2017) and Lawless Lawyer (2018) and I am happy to see her getting more recognition because of this role. The entire cast was amazing and I think I cried every episode. Such a good and heart-wrenching drama which is why I chose to watch it before work every time. Rating: I would let Seo Yea Ji stab me with a knife anytime.
Mystic Pop up bar (Jeon Chang-geun, 2020)
Main Leads: Hwang Jung Eum and Yook Sung Jae and Choi Won Young
Episodes: 12, 70 minutes
Thoughts: I actually watched this while I was watching Its Okay Not to Be Okay and it was a nice balance to it because this was more of a found family story with less heartbreaking moments. Though it did have its share of heartbreak. I really liked all the characters and their relationship. Also, I am a sucker for bureaucratic fantasy/ magic, and kdramas are so good at it. Rating: I wish it was 16 episodes.
When the Camila Bloom (Cha Yeong Hoon, 2019)
Main Leads: Gong Hyo Jin and Kang Ha Neul
Episodes: 20, 63 to 75 minutes
Thoughts: I liked the story overall, the romance was cute and the mystery was interesting but I thought the family expectations was the best part of the story. This was not my favorite drama, but it was enjoyable and heartfelt. I watched it right after It's Okay Not to Be Okay and while I was watching Flower of Evil (2020) which probably is why I was so underwhelmed by it. Rating: Sweet romance and adorable found family.
Flower of Evil (Kim Cheol Kyu, 2020)
Main Leads: Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won
Episode:16, 70 minutes
Thoughts: This was my favorite drama of this year. I went into this drama not thinking much of it, and I mainly watched it as a post drama blues drama. It was an action and thriller which I mainly don’t get attached to plus I am a huge fan of Lee Joon Gi. I should have known better, I cared so much about all the characters, the acting phenomenal, also every time they showed their hands I cried. This drama left me shriveled and empty inside. Rating: Lee Joon Gi will literally kill me one day.
Put Your Head On My Shoulders (Zhu Dongning, 2019)
Main Leads: Xing Fei and Lin Yi
Episodes: 24, 40 to 45 minutes
Thoughts: This is the first Chinese drama on this list. I thought it was cute, I liked the couple and thought it was alright. I started to dislike the male lead later in the series but it was overall fine. It was basic and sweet with very little drama. Rating: It did its job.
The School Nurse Files ( Lee Kyoung Mi, 2020)
Main Leads: Jung Yu Mi and Nam Joo Hyuk
Episodes: 6,  45 to 57 minutes
Thoughts: This is probably my second favorite drama. I couldn’t tell what happened in the drama but I loved it. I thought it was weird and fascinating, and just so magical. I loved the children and just how the whole school was just off its rocker. I also think that Nam Joo Hyuk does really well in serious roles, and I thought he did a really good job here. Rating: 1 jelly heart.
Mr. Heart (Park Sun Jae, 2020)
Main Leads: Cheon Seung Ho and Lee Se Jin
Episodes: 8, 11 Minutes
Thoughts: This was 8 episodes of start fluff and I adored it. Apparently, it is apart of a BL series by Park Sun Jae and there is a movie version that I haven’t watched. If you want to destress and watch just fluff this is the show for you. Rating: If it is any sweeter I would be going to the dentist.
You are My Destiny ( Ding Ying Zhou, 2020)
Main Leads: Xing Zhao Lin  and Liang Jie
Episodes: 36, 45 minutes
Thoughts: I hated this drama, I thought it was the worst thing ever. I don’t know why I even watched all 36 episodes. Apparently, it is a remake of a popular 2008 Twaniese drama Fated to Love You and there is a Korean remake of it as well. I have watched neither of them, so I was brand new to this story. I hated, despised the male lead. He was whiny, entitled, and an asshole. The only good part of the drama was the male and female lead actually had a lot of chemistry, unfortunately, they are playing awful characters. Rating: This was made in 2020???
First Romance (Ding Pei, 2020)
Main Leads: Wan Peng and Riley Wang
Episodes: 24, 45 Minutes
Thoughts: This is another Chinese drama. Similar to Mr. Heart (2020) this show was super fluffy. I really liked the main couple they seem to respect each other and they both had adorable crushes on each other. I loved the whole dumb jock and dumb artist dynamic it was so funny. Rating: Cute!!!
Lost Romance ( Eri Hao, 2020)
Main Leads: Marcus Chang and Vivian Sung
Episodes: 20, 70 minutes
Thoughts: This is the only Twainese drama on this list. I think I liked this drama, I actually only remember very little of this drama. I like the CEO in the real world more than the book world, and I also really liked the female lead except she lowkey stalked the CEO like that was not okay. Rating: I think I liked it???
When We Were Young ( Deng Ke, Liu Guo Hui, 2018)
Main Leads: Neo Hou and Wan Peng and Gala Zhang and Pan Mei and Ye Marcus Li
Episodes: 24, 45 minutes
Thoughts: I really liked this film, I loved all the characters and thought it was all very heartfelt. I cried like a baby, and Hua Biao was such a touching and relatable character. And the whole grandma story hit so close to home. Rating: Made me cry like a baby.
Moment of 18 ( Sim Na Yeon, 2019)
Main Leads: Ong Seong Wu and Kim Hyang Gi
Episodes: 16, 70 minutes
Thoughts: I really liked this drama, and I thought the romance was so cute. I also really liked the relationship between the moms and was sad that the rich mom was a bitch and ruined the friendship. I also wasn’t a big fan of the ending, but I loved the rest of it. Rating: The main lead is part of a boy group because he had a random singing moment.
Perfect and Casual ( Li Shuang, 2020)
Main Leads: Miles Wei and Xu Ruo Han
Episodes: 24, 45 minutes
Thoughts: This is another Chinese drama on this list. I’m pretty sure it's considered an Idol drama so that sets your expectations. I really liked this drama a lot, I am a big fan of contract marriages and I thought the leads were so cute together. Also, this is the first contract marriage drama where the leads don’t break up which I like. A lot of the drama came from outside of the relationship. Rating: You can’t analyze love.
Le Coup De Foudre ( Wang Zhi, 2019)
Main Leads: Janice Wu and Zhang Yujian
Episodes: 35, 45 minutes
Thoughts: My favorite Chinese drama on this list. I loved this drama, I thought it was sweet and simple and the main couple was so realistic. Unpopular opinion I disliked the second couple and the best friend I thought she was annoying and brattish. However, I adore the main couple and their relationship. Rating: Realistic sweet romance.
More Than Friends ( Choi Sung Bum, 2020)
Main Leads: Ong Seong Wu and Shin Ye Eun
Episodes: 16, 70 minutes
Thoughts: I enjoyed the overall story and characters. I loved the group and their relationships. Also, Young-Hee made me cry, and her relationship with Hyun Jae was so sweet. The main leads were also sweet, and I related a lot to Lee So. I just didn’t like the back and forth. Rating: How many times can we break up in a drama.
Be With You ( Zhou Miao, 2020)
Main Leads: Ji Xiao Bing and Zhang Ya-Qin
Episodes: 24, 45 minutes
Thoughts: This is the last Chinese drama I watched this year. It was alright, the romance was sweet, I really like the female lead, and the male lead was nice to look at. It was okay. Also, the second couple was so ??? She was his boss, enemy, and older than him, what?? Rating: Sometimes you need to fall in love to be creative.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo ( Kim Kyu Tae, 2016)
Main Leads: Lee Joon Gi and Lee Ji Eun (IU)
Episodes: 20, 60 minutes
Thoughts: I know I am really late watching this, but I finally did. I went in knowing this would hurt me and Lee Joon Gi already scared me this year ( damn this man) so I was fully prepared. I really wasn’t,  it so much. (SPOIlERS) When Wang Eun and Park Soon Deok died I sob like a baby (SPOILER ENDING). It took me a long time to finish this show because its heart so much, like it physically hurt me. The show was really good, and heartbreaking, and the ending stabs me in the heart 20 times. Rating: Lee Joon Gi is trying to kill me with tears.
Persona ( Lee Kyoung Mi, Yim Pil Sung, Jeon Go Woon, and Kim Jong Kwan, 2019)
Main Leads: Lee Ji Eun (IU)
Episodes: 4, 19 to 27
Thoughts: This is a collection of mini-films by directors. 4 separate stories are starring Lee Ji Eun. I thought all of them good, especially “ Kiss Burn” and “Walking at Night.” There isn’t much else to this, more than it is an artistic display of filmmaking. Rating: Hipster Kdrama
Come and Hug Me ( Choi Joon-bae, 2018)
Main Leads: Jang Ki-Yong and Jin Ki-Joo
Episodes: 32, 35 minutes
Thoughts: I actually just finished this show today. I really liked it, I thought it was both sweet and heartwarming/wrenching. I hated that one journalist and the public like why are they blaming a victim. I didn’t watch it with my full mind because I’ve been distracted lately, but I did enjoy it. Rating: another cute but sad couple.
Movies I watched this year:
Spell Bound ( Hwang In Ho, 2011)
Main Cast: Son Ye Jin and Lee Min Ki
Running Time: 114 Minutes
Thoughts: I watched this at like 12 am after a bad day and it was cute. I love RomCom fantasy, which I think Korean media does really well. I don’t know what else to say except it is a really cute romance. Rating: Is it the ghost or the butterflies
The Host ( Bong Joon Ho, 2006)
Main Cast: Song Kang Ho and Byun Hee Bong and Park Hae Il and Bae Doona and Go, Ah Sung
Running Time: 119
Thoughts: This film I had to actually watch for class. It was a really good film which is expected from Bong Joon Ho. I love monster films and I thought this was a good rendition of this film. Also, The monster was so cool especially from 2006. I thought it was heartbreaking, stirring, and so beautifully shot. Rating: Oscar-worthy Direction
Little Forest ( Yim Soon-rye, 2018)
Main Cast: Kim Tae Ri  and Ryu Jun Yeol and Moon So Ri and Jin Ki Joo
Running Time: 103 minutes
Thoughts: I really, really liked this film. It reminded me so much of I’ll Find You When The Weather is Nice (2020) that I thought that it was based on this film but it isn’t. I have watched this film 3 times since October and every time I watch it have made bread. I really just love everything about this film, how quiet it is, the cinematography, the acting, just everything. Rating: Three loaves of bread.
Always ( Song Il Gon, 2011)
Main Cast: So Ji Sub and Han Hyo Joo
Running Time: 106 Minutes
Thoughts: I thought it was okay, I watched it while I was knitting so I was distracted a bit. But I thought the couple was sweet, and the characters were interesting. Rating: It's Okay.
       Currently watching
True Beauty ( Kim Sang-hyeop, 2020-)
Main Cast: Moon Ga Young and Cha Eun Woo and Hwang In Yeop
Episodes: 16, 70 minutes
Thoughts: This is currently an ongoing series that is actually really popular. Apparently, it is based on a webtoon, which I haven’t read. I like it so far, I always liked Moon Ga Young and I think she is a great actress. She plays Im Ju Kyung in a likable and insecure way, instead of someone annoying which could easily happen. I will be continuing watching. Rating so far: Okey dokey yo.
Live On ( Kim Sang-woo, 2020-)
Main Cast: Jung Da Bin and Hwang Min Hyun
Episodes: 8?, 60 Minutes
Thoughts: I really Like this show. The main couple is sweet and supportive. I really like the female lead, I like that she is cold and kinda quiet, but with a sweet spot if you are not a dick. I really like the main relationship conflict comes from friendship instead of romance, I think it makes the show more interesting. Rating: I want to Join a Broadcast group.
On My List:
I actually don’t have anything else on my list so if anyone has recommendations please tell me. I am thinking about watching Mr. Queen ( 2020) because I really like Shin Hye Sun. I also want to watch Sweet Home (2020) the Netflix series. But please recommend me some dramas!!!
This is such a long list, and I had fun doing it and going back over all the dramas. I hope everyone has a good New year and that we will have many more good dramas in 2021!

Sugar & the Beast (Part 1)
pairing: Suga/Yoongi x Jin (not yet) x OC
word count: 1,850-ish
genre: drama, sageuk (Joseon dynasty stuff)
summary: A Joseon adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. There’s a rumour about the Prime Minister’s son, that he sometimes act like a human and sometimes act like a beast. Dang Seol’s only family, Myeongjo, left for Hanyang one day and never came back. Seol finds out that Myeongjo was taken to the Prime Minister’s house and seeks to find her only family back but ends up coming face to face with a human-beast.
warnings: some violence, very minor.
comments: my first try at a saguek... here goes nothing... no harm trying I guess xD
Tumblr media
It has been a week since Myeongjo has left the village to Hanyang. Seol was heading home from the market and there was a shadow waiting for her in the shabby yard of their humble abode. Seol ran towards it hoping it was Myeongjo but it turns out to be the neighbour, Ban-rim ahjumma.
“Dang Seol! Where did you run off to the whole day again? Myeongjo left you in my care and you are giving me a headache from having to look everywhere for you!”, she yelled as Seol ran up through the wooden gates.
“Ban-rim Imo~~ I just went to the market, nowhere else. It’s boring staying in the house the whole day”, Seol pulled out her best aegyo.
“You went to the Seodang* again right? Why are you doing this to me? You know how much Myeongjo dislikes it when you go to the Seodang! If she finds out, this will be the death of me, Seol-ah, spare a thought for this pitiful woman that is me, will you?”, Ban-rim collapses dramatically onto the huge wooden deck bench in the yard.
[*Seodang: a private institution/school]
“I’m sorry Ban-rim Imo~ you know I mean no harm to you... it’s just that the more Myeongjo refuses to let me go to the seodang, the more I feel like there is so much out there to see”, Seol sat down behind Ban-rim and starting rubbing her shoulders in an attempt to lighten her up.
“People go to the seodang in hopes of passing the imperial examinations and becoming a court official. But all we want is for you to grow up safely and get married to a good man, what’s the point of going to a seodang, Seol-ah. Tomorrow onwards I'll be watching you, you should start learning some domestic skills like sewing or cooking”, Ban-rim started lecturing Seol again.
“Imo, people can go to the seodang just because they want to gain knowledge, no? It’s not only about the knowledge of the world, but also how to be a good person right?”
Ban-rim opens her mouth to rebut that and Seol quickly continues, “Did you make me gukbap? I can smell it! It smells so nice, your gukbap is the best in this world!”, Seol’s aegyo finally starts showing some effects and Ban-rim sighs at her, standing up to head to the kitchen.
---
The next morning, Seol crept out of her room and sees Ban-rim fast asleep on the wooden deck bench. “Ban-rim Imo sure is dedicated...”, she thought, “but let’s see whose determination is stronger then...”.
She tip-toes very quietly past the deck bench and dashes off in the direction of the seodang.
As Seol hid behind the pillar peeping into the lesson that is ongoing in the seodang a hand suddenly grabs her and she bolts around, one millisecond away from screaming her lungs out and her fists clenched in a self-defence posture.
“Keep quiet Seol, it’s me!”, whispered Taehyung.
“You gave me such a shock! What are you doing here? Isn’t the class going on now?”
“Is that all you want to know?”, Taehyung gave her a cheeky smile.
Seol quickly glanced towards the lecture-in-progress, making sure no one saw Taehyung and her before dragging Taehyung away.
The two of them stood behind a huge tree next to the pond outside the seodang. “Did you find out about it for me?”, Seol asked Taehyung eagerly.
“Of course, don’t you know who I am?”
“Yea ok, quit bragging, tell me”, Seol demanded.
“Myeongjo goes to Hanyang every year to visit the tomb of someone...”
“I already knew that”, Seol rolled her eyes.
“How impatient are you? A few days ago, someone saw her being brought to the house of the Prime Minister”, Taehyung relayed to Seol as his expression turned many shades more serious in an instant. “That’s all I can tell you. Just wait for her to come back. I am letting you know this because I want you to back down now. This is the Prime Minister we are talking about. You are in no position to go looking for her there.”
“It doesn’t matter who he is, Myeongjo has never left for more than three days. And she didn’t tell me any different this time. Something must have happened to her.”
“Seol-ah, you may not know this so let me educate you. The Prime Minister is not someone you mess with, you understand? He isn’t the King but...”, Taehyung inched his face closer to Seol’s and said in a hushed tone, “... but he is more powerful than the King. The King is who he is today because of the Prime Minister.”
But Myeongjo is everything to Seol. She was Seol’s only family, even though they were not blood related. It doesn’t matter who held her or where she was.
“Taehyung, you know I have to go, I can’t sit around waiting for her to come back. What if she never comes back?”, Seol turns to leave.
Taehyung grabs her arms to stop her. “Listen to me. The Prime Minister killed the previous King, his Queen and every single one of his concubines and children. That is the kind of person he is. People talk about a shaman cursing the Prime Minister’s son as a revenge on his family. They say his son sometimes seem like a normal person and sometimes seems like a beast. You stay far away from them, do you hear me? There's nothing you can do!”
Taehyung almost never sounded this serious. “Alright, I hear you”, Seol said as she tugged her arm out of Taehyung’s grip.
---
That night Seol dreamt of Myeongjo taking her into the mountains, hunting for medicinal herbs. Myeongjo would teach her all about each one of them. They would carry baskets full of herbs down the mountain before sunset and Myeongjo will exchange some for the sweets that Seol liked at the local market they passed by before reaching home.
The sun shone into her eyes. Seol woke up to the smell of freshly prepared food, and she headed out to see Ban-rim Imo laying out the table setting for breakfast. Myeongjo was still nowhere to be seen.
Seol never knew who her parents were, she only knows Myeongjo found her when she was a baby and ever since, Myeongjo has raised her, educated her and did everything for her. But every year Myeongjo would leave the village to travel to Hanyang for two or three days. Even when Seol pestered to be brought along, Myeongjo will never budge. This year was exceptionally unsual and now that Seol knew where Myeongjo is, she became all the more worried about her safety.
After breakfast Ban-rim Imo reluctantly headed off to the fields where she worked, before she left she made her five year old sit on the deck bench and told him to watch after Seol and make sure she didn’t step one foot outside the gates.
A kiddo guardian would hardly ever keep Seol away from what she set her mind to do. She bribed Ban-rim's son with some cash, asking him to go down to the market to get her some ink and added a little extra money so that he has enough for the snacks he wanted. As he ran down to the market, Seol packed some essentials and headed out determinedly. Human, beast, prime minister, or the King, whoever it may be, if they have to do with Myeongjo disappearing, she would spare no efforts to find Myeongjo.
---
Hanyang was huge and drastic. At the end of an alley there would be kids running around in rags and straw shoes looking barely nourished. On the other end of the road there would be lavish mansions made from top-grade painted wood, and aristocrats dressed in the finest hanboks.
Seol walked down the bustling streets, not sure which direction she should be headed. The people were much colder than where she came from. Even when she asked for directions, they would ignore her or just wave her away from their stores.
Suddenly there was a crash and Seol sees a woman being dragged out of a store by a young aristocrat. He was dressed in a black hanbok, hands yanking at the woman’s disheveled clothing and he throws her ruthlessly onto the ground as she struggles.
“Are you going to cause a scene or should we do this quietly?”, he said menacingly, and Seol sees another two man dressed in dark robes standing behind him, hands holding onto the shaft of the swords they carried.
The woman was begging now, on her knees and her hands grabbing at her assailant’s ankles.
“Please don’t kill me... please...”
“Hey stop it! How can a man hit a woman like that?”, Seol lunges herself in between the young aristocrat and the pitiful woman, leading her to come face to face with him. His eyes were dark and his pupils reflected no light. The rest of his features were dainty and his skin was pale.
With a tone that was as pale as his complexion, he scoffed, “A woman? She’s not just a woman, she’s a shaman... get lost you, unless you wish to suffer on her behalf”, he pushes Seol aside so forcefully that Seol crashes into a nearby cart.
“I’m not a shaman... I'm really not, please... don’t kill me”, the woman cowered as she tries to crawl away from him.
He grabs onto her neck and pulls her back to him, he crouched over her as she sat helplessly on the rough brick pavement, “Prove it to me then... that you aren’t a shaman.”
“How... how should I...”, the woman was sobbing uncontrollably.
“What about you? What proof do you have that she is a shaman?”, Seol shouted from the sidelines, a little wary of running into the line of fire again.
Everyone around her started gasping, some moved away from her as the threatening noble turned his head towards her with the look of ultimate annoyance. He dropped his hold of the trembling woman and sets his eyes on Seol.
“How dare you...”, he started to hiss at Seol, when suddenly a bellowing voice broke the tension.
“Min Yoongi!”, an old but dignified looking man walked into the scene with a huge frown and a dozen men in tow. The air turned chilly just from the old man passing by. The man stared down this young aristocrat he called Yoongi with a powerful gaze, meanwhile the young man’s eyes were unwavering and he looked at the old man with apathetically.
Everyone lowered their eyes, not daring to look at either of them but Seol stared from where she stood. A shaggy looking man scuttled over, afraid that a young ignorant lady like Seol would get into more trouble. “Lower your eyes, don’t look”, he whispered to her as he stood in her shadows.
Seol bent her head slightly, and muttered back “Why? Who is he?”
“You don’t know him?! He's the Prime Minister of Joseon, Prime Minister Min!”, the peasant chided her in his lowered voice.
Seol lifted her widened eyes just an inch. So... this Min Yoongi that she just pissed off may be... no, he must be... the beast.

CHAPTER FOUR
One Week Later
Waking up the following morning to the loud sound of an alarm was not a very nice start to the day. What made it even worse was that it was a Saturday and he couldn't sleep in. Sighing, Lucas sat up and looked around the dim room tiredly. After a few moments, he reluctantly slipped out of bed and staggered towards the bathroom.
The response of the shower was immediate as the metallic head that hung loosely above him spread water unto his body, the cold making his muscles tense. The water gradually warmed him, soothing the ache that clawed at his limbs from his previous work out. He slowly lowered his gaze, letting the water fall carelessly around him as he fell into a deep contemplation. He mostly thought about his father who he hasn't seen for over a year. With the news of his early release, Lucas prepared himself for the moment his father returns home. But a wisp of doubt still fluttered in his mind; a horrible thought that things would not change or work out between them.
A distant sigh slipped from his lips as he turned off the shower head and grabbed a towel nearby. He quickly dressed into black slacks, a white button down dress shirt with a dark grey skinny tie, and finished the look with a black blazer jacket and casual shoes before heading on out.
It was a quiet ride as Lucas stared out the window, absorbed in his thoughts. Andre eyed Lucas from the rearview mirror with curiosity, a mixture of emotions playing across his face. Silence filled the vehicle for a few moments, broken only by the occasional car driving past or the buzz that goes on in the busy streets of New York City.
"Aren't you a little overdressed?" Andre asked, mentally berating himself for his lame attempt at small talk.
Lucas glared at him, looking rather offended. "You're being paid to be my driver, not my fashion police."
Andre felt his face turn red as he cleared his throat and returned his gaze back on the road. "My apologies, sir."
After a few more stop signs, they finally reached their destination with five minutes to spare before his shift begins. Lucas stepped outside the vehicle and stood in front of the surprisingly small building with the words Topanga's printed on the window. It was far from a corporate headquarters of some fashion industry he expected it to be.
"What is this place?" He asked, eyeing the brick building as Andre stood beside him with his hands clasped in front of him.
"It's a bakery."
Lucas furrowed his eyebrows in bewilderment. "A bakery?" He scoffed. "And you knew about this place? Why didn't you tell me? Or warn me?" He asked, looking at him from the side.
"I'm only paid to be your driver, remember?"
Lucas sighed and watched as a stream of customers goes in and out of the building with either a beverage or pastry in hand.
"Go on, Lucas. You don't want to be late."
Seeing the amused look on his driver's face, Lucas glared at him. "Just be back here in four hours."
"Will do."
Lucas drew in a deep breath and then confidently strode inside.
He opened the glass doors and the chiming bell greeted him as he entered the bakery. Lucas began to look around; the scent of brewing coffee and pastries filling his nostrils as it escaped through the kitchen doors. Inside, pastries were lined up neatly in display counters, round tables and chairs were nearly filled up, and those that were empty were sparkling clean. People already lined up to pay for their orders at the counter where a beautiful maiden with dirty blonde hair greeted them with a bright smile.
"Welcome to Topanga's. May I help you?" Lucas turned to the source of a masculine voice with short dark brown hair and a friendly smile. He briefly looked at his nametag before awkwardly meeting his gaze.
"Yes, hello, Evan? Uh…my name is Lucas. I was sent by Mr. Cory Matthews."
He arched a brow and looked him over, taken by surprise. "Oh." He snapped out of it quickly and smiled at him. "Right. Come follow me." He led Lucas towards the back of the bakery and through a large door marked with the words "Employees Only." They stepped inside an empty room with lockers on one side of the wall and a small round table and couch in the opposite end.
"Okay, no offense, Lucas but you're overdressed." Evan began as he opened a small closet door that stood beside the lockers and grabbed a few items.
"So I was told." Lucas replied dryly.
"You don't want to mess up that nice shirt of yours so you're gonna want to put this on." Evan tossed him a black shirt with the bakery's logo and Topanga's printed on the front. "You're also going to need this." He handed him a black waist apron that ties around the back. "That should be it for now. Meet me at the front once you're ready to work."
Lucas nodded. "Yea, thanks."
Evan quietly left the room. Once Lucas was dressed, he stepped out to the front of the bakery where Evan was waiting for him. "Okay, the owner and store manager are usually not here during the weekends, but they placed me in charge and I was given specific instructions for you to shadow me for the day. We are pretty tight today with staff, so it's going to be busy. There are several events planned during the weekend, so we have tons of orders for cakes, pies, and some pastries. For now, I'll have you clean tables and greet customers." Lucas nodded, trying to take it all in. "Alright, let me introduce you to the staff and give you a quick tour."
Lucas shook hands with the other employees as they all welcomed him to the team. He concluded that they were all friendly, including the customers. There was just something about the place that made him feel right at home.
"All our condiments, napkins and anything we need to stock up at the front will be in the storage closet when you pass through the kitchen. Cleaning supplies will be next to it. If you need help finding things or if you're not sure about anything just ask the staff and they'd be glad to help." Evan turned to look at Lucas. "So do you have any questions for me?" Lucas shook his head quietly. "Ok good. Let's get you started."
And then he was already getting in the thick of the action, cleaning up tables and helping out the waiters to deliver orders to seated customers. He smiled at a young couple with their pastries and coffees in hand as he directed them to a free table by the window. It took him quite some time to get the hang of things. There were a few mishaps from accidentally spilling coffee to delaying clean up, causing a long line of waiting customers. One hour left into the shift and the traffic in the bakery suddenly picked up, and Lucas found himself lost in the noon-hour rush. But with the Evan's help, Lucas eventually got things moving along again.
Time passed by quickly, and in the blink of an eye, his four hours was over. After a few encouraging words from Evan, he went to the lockers to change back into his dress attire. He returned to the front of the bakery, looking down at his feet towards the exit when he accidentally bumped into someone. "Excuse me, I'm sorry I—" He immediately looked up and his breath caught his throat. His eyes widened as they locked with hers. "Riley?"
"Lucas?" She greeted in surprise, the amused tint in her brown eyes with the make-up she wore really bringing out the gorgeous color. "We need to stop meeting like this." She joked. "What are you doing here?"
Lucas blinked as he stared at her, completely caught off guard. A million things were running through his head, one of them being if it was the best time to tell her what he already knew and why he was there. "Uh well…" he began, nervously scratching the back of his head and trying to think of something smart to say. "Your Dad actually sent me here."
"My Dad?" She questioned, her brows arching in bewilderment. "Wait, how do you—" Riley froze as she fought her surprised reaction, but was sure he had noticed it. "You know."
He nodded with a sly grin. "Did you really think no one was ever going to find out?"
"I was hoping." She sighed, walking over to the nearest empty table as Lucas joined her.
"So when you said your Dad is head of an entire school, I didn't realize you meant our school." He sat down across from her as she silently nodded her head in embarrassment. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because…" she began exasperatedly, turning in her chair to look at him. "People will talk. People will make assumptions and formulate their own opinions. I just don't want people to treat me any differently…or think I receive special treatment just because I'm the Dean's daughter."
Lucas studied her for a moment, noticing the distress she was in just from talking about it. "Don't worry, I won't say anything."
She tilted her head to the side as a smile curled her lips. "Thank you."
"Hey, Matthews!" Came another voice that broke through the brief silence not long after. It was a voice Lucas wasn't quite familiar with yet, but he knew who it was before meeting his gaze. "The usual?" Evan asked, approaching their table as he greeted Riley with a wide grin.
"Yes, and one for my friend here Lucas."
He looked from Evan to Riley and politely shook his head. "Oh no, you don't have to—"
"Don't worry about it. My Mom owns the place." Lucas' eyebrows flew upward in surprise. "Not to be biased or anything, but the coffee here is amazing. Perhaps better than the overpriced café's and bistros you have over at the Upper East Side." She teased.
He narrowed his eyes at her playfully and she laughed. "I suppose I'll be the judge of that."
Evan blinked at all this, looking between them in a distressed fashion. When Lucas glanced back at him, he could've sworn that he saw jealousy evident on his face before he broke into a forced smile. "Ok, I'll uh…have those drinks ready."
"Thanks, Evan." Riley smiled at him as he stayed for another moment before reluctantly turning around and walking back to the counter.
A period of silence hung in the air before Riley interjected curiously. "So why did my Dad send you here?" Lucas didn't answer at first. Instead, he took a hesitant sip of the coffee that was sent over by one of the waiters. "It must be pretty bad."
"Why do you say that?"
"Clearly you're not here to make extra cash. So that leaves one other explanation." She looked at him as if she knew exactly what he was thinking. "You're in trouble, aren't you?"
The smallest of smiles graced his mouth. "It's a long story."
"Well, I got like ten minutes to spare." She said, leaning back on the chair comfortably with her legs crossed and her arms folded across her chest. Lucas stared at his coffee for a few moments, not wanting to recount the events. After a heavy sigh, he spent the next five minutes telling Riley everything that had happened.
"It could have been a lot worse." She replied, her face melting into an overstated expression of sympathy.
"Yea, I know."
Riley sat all the way up, clasping her hands together on the table as she leaned towards him. "Look…despite your poor judgment or lack thereof, your friends are really lucky to have you in their lives. I would give anything to have someone stand up for me the way you stand up for them." She said, her gaze boring into his as he felt himself lose his breath for a fraction of a second. "But it's okay to walk away, Lucas. It's not worth getting in trouble for. Besides, you're just letting the bad guys win by allowing them to get a rise out of you. Don't give them the satisfaction."
Lucas fell silent for a moment as he thought about what she said. For the first time in a long time, he felt he could be a better version of himself. "Thanks, Riley. That…that means a lot to me."
"You're very welcome." She smiled, grabbing her coffee from off the table as she stood up. "Anyway, I promised my Mom that I help her out with the bakery. I guess I'll be seeing you around?"
He nodded, his eyes never leaving hers as a smile touched his features. "I'm counting on it."
She flashed him another smile before turning around and heading towards the back.
"Oh and, Riley?" He called out, causing her to stop in her tracks and glance over her shoulder.
"Yea?"
"You're right. This coffee is pretty amazing."
She smiled knowingly. "See you later, Lucas."
Riley Matthews was walking down the sidewalk on her trek home from the bakery as the sun was starting to set. She was extremely tired with tons of homework that had been assigned over the weekend to look forward to. Climbing the stairs of the apartment building that she lived in with both her parents and her younger brother, she unlocked the front door and entered the living room. She then threw off her sweater and walked over to the kitchen where her Mom was sitting down in front of the laptop talking animatedly on the phone and what sounded like a tense conversation. She looked through the fridge and grabbed a bottled water before joining her mother at the table.
"Yea, okay. I'll see you at the office on Monday. Uh huh, yep…alright, bye bye now." Mrs. Matthews got off the phone and released a heavy sigh, forgetting for a brief moment that her daughter was in the room.
"You okay, Mom?" Riley asked, concern coloring her voice as she looked up from the laptop to meet her worried gaze.
"Oh, Riley. I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I didn't notice you walk in." She said, reaching over across the table to give her a warm hug. "How was your day?"
"Business is good as usual." She replied flatly, noticing the troubled look on her mother's face. "Is everything okay?"
"Yea, yea everything is fine."
Riley raised an eyebrow. "You don't seem fine, Mom. What is it?"
Mrs. Matthews looked her over for a moment before releasing a tired sigh. "Well, if you must know, Riley…I just got off the phone with one of my clients and it turns out the man I put away for fraud and embezzlement was granted early release by the courts. My team and I tried to appeal and reverse the decision, but it was denied."
Riley frowned. "I'm sure you did everything you could, Mom..."
Mrs. Matthews simply nodded, the disappointment still evident on her face. "Yeah...well…enough about me," She said hurriedly, wanting to get off the subject as she exited the Friar Case file from her laptop and smiled at her daughter. "I want to know everything about your new school."

After Happily Ever After, a Vampire Diaries FanFic (Post series finally)
Damon and I stuck around Mystic Falls for a year to help Caroline and Rik start the school. To this day I think it was most of Damon's involvement was to make sure his best vintages weren't snuck away by Rik in the moving process. Then it was time to say goodbye. My new Jeep and Damon's revived Camaro were packed with our most important belongings as we bid our nearest and dearest farewell's. The rest of the too large to fit in the car stuff had been sent by moving trucks to a storage place outside New York City.
Caroline was all tears and warnings of course. "But you guys don't even have a place in New York yet! I still say you should stay another few months." I looked at her with a knowing grin as she rolled her eyes and corrected herself, "Or forever…"
"That sounds more like the Caroline I know." I said and hugged my best friend. "Bonnie is off exploring the world and you and Rik are doing an amazing job with this place. It's just time Care."
Care sniffed, "I swear to god Elena, if you don't call me the moment you get there, I will vamp speed all the way to Manhattan to trample your ass!"
I laughed, "Yes Mrs. Salvatore." I said only slightly mocking her new role as the Salvatore School's head mistress.
Damon and Rik came out of the front door of the former boarding house. In Damon's arms was a large manila envelope. The two men chuckled as the approached us.
"What's so funny?" I asked as Damon came to my side sporting his telltale mischievous grin.
"Just man stuff,"
"Uh-ha, what's in the envelope?"
"A signed copy of Madonna's playboy issue, thought it would be best that I not forget it here and send one of these witchy kiddies into early puberty."
Caroline cringed. "Ew! How about you burn it?"
Damon looked at her like she had deeply insulted him. "It's Madonna and a signed issue blondie, have you no respect for art?"
I jumped in to derail the budding drama, "Ok, Madonna can ride with you to New York then she goes in the recycling pile, got it?"
Damon took me in his arms and kissed me, "Don't be jealous babe, the material girl has nothing on you."
"Aw, you always know what to say." I kissed him back and whispered, "But she's still compost."
He sighed defeated "Happy girl, happy world." We turned back to Care and Rik,
"So where are you guys staying?" Rik asked with an unusual eyebrow gesture that looked like a taunting challenge more than a question. Odd.
"I rented us a spot in the city while we look for a permanent place." Damon answered, giving Rik a look that read like silence, I kill you! Odder.
"Um, ok not sure whats going on there but we should get going." I hugged Rick.
"You guys drive safe and let us know when you get there." Rik and Damon bro hugged after I went back to Care.
"We will, Care already threatened me thoroughly." I nodded at my best friend.
Never being one to back down, Care nodded her head in agreement "Mm-hm, and I meant it."
We all laughed and Damon as usual made sure our departure was on a sarcastic note. "Ok, Dumbledore, McGonagall, try not to let Hogwarts explode while we're gone ok?"
Rik looked serious "I make no guarantees." Yet another round of hugs later and Damon and I were on the road. After 5 minutes I began to look back on everything we'd been though in this town. It was where we met, fell in love, broke up, got back together. Where we literally died, and came back in more ways than one. Where we met, and said goodbye to so many people who were so important to us. And even though it was centuries apart, it was where Damon and I were both born, where we grew up. Now we were leaving.
My phone started ringing from the holder on my dashboard. It was Damon. Putting him on Bluetooth, I answered, "Hey,"
"Put it away," he drolld
I smirked "Put what away?"
"The crease in your forehead."
He knew me too well, "It's just hard to think of leaving."
His tone went from playful to sweet, "I know baby, but we're starting our lives together. Human lives. Part of being human is leaving home and making your place in the world."
I smiled "You're right. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you've mastered this whole being human thing."
"Took some getting used to but I think I'll be writing self-help books and blogging by next week."
That made me laugh. "The day you start blogging is the day I go vegan."
"Hey, don't knock the vegans, I think they have a hold on human immortality. I've already scoped out a few food coop's and organic grocery stores."
"Ok, have fun with your algae and tofu, I'll stick with my burgers and fries thank you!"
Damon signed, "Fries are something aren't they? I seriously have a new appreciation for human food since I lost my Vamp status." I could barely contain my laughter. I could practically hear the satisfied smile on Damon's lips, knowing he had successfully distracted me from my previous mood. "Feel better?" he asked,
"Ya, much. Thanks love."
"Any time, when you feel like you need a driving brake just honk ok?"
"Yea, you too."
"I love you Elena," He didn't say it in the typical emotionless way most guys said it to their girlfriends. Damon uttered those three words with his whole heart. Like it was the first or last time he'd ever have the chance to say them.
"I love you too Damon." We hung up and continued the long drive to New York City.
9.5 hours and 4 bathroom/food breaks later we had arrived in Manhattan NY. I followed Damon to a 24hour parking garage in the West Village. We took out the duffel bags we packed with our immediate essentials and hand in hand my boyfriend walked us to a building on the corner of Bowery and Broom Street. There was a busy looking bar on the very corner of the building that looked like a cool place to hang out. Maybe that would be our go-to spot eventually.
I noticed the manila envelope Damon had taken from the boarding house under his arm. "What's Madonna doing here?"
Damon shrugged, "Thought you'd like to be the one to toss her."
I rolled my eyes as we arrived in front of a classic looking building. Damon took the keys out of his pants pocket and unlocked the front door. The lobby was all marble and steel beams. The place liked like the perfect combination of modern and traditional. "Wow, this is something." I said admiring the architecture.
"Mm-Hm, wait till you see the apartment." Damon guided us to the old-fashioned elevator and together we rode it to the 6th floor, the top floor of the building. There were only 3 apartment doors on the floor, Damon guided me to the one at the very end of the hall. He opened the door and switched on a few lights.
"After you Mademoiselle," he bowed as he let me through the open door.
"Oh my-wow!" I said looking up at the vaulted ceilings. If I had ever designed my dream loft it would be this one here. The space was massive with floor to ceiling windows, a huge fire escape, fire place open kitchen and upper level that looked like it was constructed for bedroom space. Damon leaned against one of the exposed brick walls as I looked around.
"Oh, this kind of sucks." I said still in awe.
"Pardone moi?" Damon asked confused.
"Well, this is supposed to be temporary while we find a real place. But after this, every apartment we look at is going to seriously pale in comparison."
He stood off the wall, "Funny you should say that." He opened the manila envelope to my surprise pulled out a stack of white papers and a pen."
"I wasn't going to sign these until you saw the place yourself." He handed the papers to me. There were a purchasing agreement for a condo. Damon had applied and gotten approved to buy the loft we were standing in.
Shocked I stared at the words in front of me. "Da… those are not naked pictures of Madonna."
He smiled, "Caught that, did you? I had everything sent to the boarding house so I could surprise you when we got here. So, do you like it?"
"Like? I love it!" I jumped into Damon's arms and kissed him. "Wait, can we afford this?" As a vampire, Damon had endless resources for money. And while he did have one hell of a nest egg to start us off with we agreed to not go overboard and fix our spending with the intent of building our finances though real careers.
"Well… not originally but blondie may have been excellent at haggling the price down to our level."
"Caroline was in on this?" I asked, "But she was devastated when we left."
Damon mocked shock, "Have you seriously forgotten her time as a drama major?"
I laughed and kissed him, "So, this, is it? This is our home?"
Damon bight his bottom lip in a not exactly way, "Well, first you're gonna have to sign these." He handed me the stack of papers and pen. I rushed to the granite kitchen island and started signing away.
"Oh Elena?"
"Hmm?" I asked, completely focused on signing my name on every dotted line I could find.
"Just one more thing."
I turned to see what else he needed and was once again stunned. Damon was down on one knee with a velvet box in his hand. "Damon?"
"Elena Gilbert, from the moment I met you. I knew there was something extraordinary about you. From that day on, everything about you has amazed, enlightened and confused the hell out of me. I fell in love with you from that very first moment. I know what it is to have you and to lose you and I don't want to spend another second of this new short life without you. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?"
The tears that ran down my face were hot and full of joy. Damon opened the box to reveal a brilliantly cut white diamond in a platinum setting. I could hardly breath as I looked into the sparkle. Still on his knee Damon waited for my answer which was an absolute, unwavering…
"Yes,"
He slipped the ring on my finger and lifted me into his arms. Together we were everything and for the first time in our lives we knew for a fact that nothing could come between us ever again. This was the start of us, after Happily Ever After.
