Homework for Airi Pan's @pixiescout Foolproof Concept Painting Schoolism class. Studies of films and studies of my own work -- the ones I had to touch up are the oldest, so I'm glad I'm improving even before guidance. I cheesed some of the values with flowy brushes because I'm weaaakk

I recently had the privilege of talking with Bobby Chiu for his artist interview series! I have absolutely no idea what I said in this interview anymore, my poor little brain has completely erased all memory of what I said…so PLEASE JOIN ME on Wednesday morning, Jan 18th at 9am PST, for a jolly good time in the chat as I rewatch my interview in horror and desperately try to clarify and joke about my responses to Bobby’s wonderful and thoughtful questions. I plan to be in the chat for the first hour but if it’s a hoot then maybe I’ll stick around and goof a bit longer. I hope it’s helpful and fun haha wheewwww see you there!! #bobbychiu #artistsoninstagram #artistinterview #schoolism https://www.instagram.com/p/CnfkHndPsX5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It’s done!!
21 paintings within 3 months. Not bad! I feel like I learned a lot from this workout on Schoolism, and really, just drawing and doing something is enough even when it’s not your best work.
Onward to the next challange!

Week six done! This time, we had to combine elephants with another animal. I picked a red river pig since their coloration is mammoth-adjacent. Plus, they're cool-looking animals! I also tried some more detailed rendering, a more sophisticated layout, and I'm beginning to approach a workable fur texture. This week concludes the new designs; for the remainder of the class, we'll be working on a narrative illustration. By the way, that text blurb from the image is below the cut!
The Red Forest Elephant lives in the boundary between forest and grassland. Its preferred diet consists of roots and shallow aquatic plants which it accesses by digging with tusks. The short trunk is quite dexterous and can be used to manipulate objects or search the bottom of a river. Red Forest elephants live in small family groups and are skittish when it comes to human interaction. Males have larger tusks which are used for display and foraging.
