Psychic or Psychotic?

Sometimes,

I get this overwhelming feeling

That I have the ability to become

Somebody else.

Somehow,

my mind gets taken over

by an entirely different person.

Somewhere along the way,

a specific soul enters the control room,

pushes buttons, pulls evers,

making my body twitch,

Carrying it to unseen places.

They push strange phrases out of my mouth,

things that have never once escaped my lips.

Things that I would never dare,

Seemingly out of thin air…

Is my mind so vast

that can create this wide variety of personas?

Or am I just incredibly ill?

Or perhaps…

spirits are using my body

To feel alive again?

Easily and without hesitation

One could say that all signs point to;

Mental illness

Schizophrenia, dissociative identity disorder, Bipolar disorder…

Easily one or all three, quite possibly more.

I learned in an Abnormal Psych class

how truly insane I must be,

when the professor spoke the words

“Ghosts do not exist.”

You mean to tell me…

the belief I have had my whole life

Is it just a made up concept?

And that believing it makes me

Unwell?

To that degree, all science is constructed the same way.

Everything comes from a theory.

Theories aren’t absolute truth,

Absolute truth is impossible,

But proven theories are as close to truth

as humans feel they can get.

If you believe in magic over science

they can stamp your file with a diagnosis,

Schizoaffective Disorder.

They’ll feed you pills that dull your senses,

so you can’t even feel your own energy.

What if

the people who have the ability to see magic

aren’t the crazy ones after all?

Do scientists definitively know

whether or not there are mystical forces

in the universe?

They put zero stock in being able to feel energy or see auras.

“You’re not summoning the spirit of your deceased loved ones in a séance,

You’re tapping into your deep subconscious, to bring forth the impression of that person.

They can’t actually be there, it’s not scientifically sound.”

Maybe this kind of person just can’t see through their third eye,

either because their spiritual self is sleeping,

or because they are subconsciously drowning out the ability to see

because they can’t fathom this reality.

Therefore, they aren’t actually seeing the whole picture.

How do you know my perspective isn’t correct?

Maybe I’m a celestial being who has taken human form,

To influence humanity

To change.

My mission is to supply them with metaphorical monocles,

or cause such a ruckus, that the third eye will open from shock.

Encourage them to lift the veil from their spirits,

And open the eye they weren’t aware they had.

The world is not black and white

It is full a spectrum of brilliant colors,

thanks to the light from a giant star,

And the receptors in our eyes and brains that interpret the colors.

How can you think about scientific concepts like this

and not consider the pure magic in it?

It is more than I have ever been able to summarize with my words

Yet here I am, giving it my best shot.

Bipolar symptoms include:

delusions of grandeur.

Strangers have always depended

on the kindness of me.

Though I have come to realize,

I am a powerful force,

with the strength to withstand

the discomfort they leave me with.

And this state of mind-

This feeling is such a contrast,

to my natural state

of feeling like an insect.

Insignificant, easy to step on;

accidentally of course.

They never mean to hurt me,

I understand.

They just don’t realize where they are letting their foot fall

Before it’s too late.

Where has all this uplifting, self-generated energy been,

When I am so low?

When I find myself operating at the weak frequency

When I long to sink into the earth,

approximately six feet beneath the surface;

like the perpetual wounds in my soul,

so deep and so wide

they can never heal.

I will continue to bleed,

Until my life force leaves my body.

Where does my confidence go?

My sense of self is so radically inconsistent.

Why don’t I always see myself this way,

Realize that I am more than just a suicidal soul,

buried in creative energy, yet lacking in motivation?

It lies dormant within me,

and has unpredictable eruption patterns.

The power surges through my body,

Almost to the point of pain,

and definitely to the point of insanity.

Is sanity truly achievable?

I’m not sure I’ve ever considered myself

To be very sane at all.

Mostly insane, a fraction of sanity.

But does that make me

Any less deserving of a good existence

Than someone with more sanity?

An Idea that I’m putting out there for anyone to use #1

Alright, I have an idea for a Harry Potter x Ghostbusters crossover fan fiction, but since I have never read the series, nor watched the movies, and only have heard of it through passing from clips, fan fiction, and people who know it (friends), I have devised the following idea:

The Dursleys (who are as “christian” as usual) take Harry, to New York where they give him to his distant relative to his mother. A relative connected on his mother’s side, The Spenglers. Cue the Dursleys arriving at the front door of GB HQ and dropping him off to Dr. Egon Spengler. Thankfully, they have a DNA test and is proven to be indeed a distant relative to Dr. Spengler.

At some point, Harry reveals his magical nature to the scientists, due to either deciding to reveal to them after an encounter with the green ghost (“Slimer”), or because sometimes he keeps setting off the PKE Meters. After this, the US version of the Ministry of Magic arrive to talk to the Ghostbusters, including with P-CoC’s Head, Walter Peck (remember, this is taking place in the 90s). There, they talk about how this US Gov’t has approved of Harry being there with the scientist, along with the scientist assisting with certain magical problems, as they were impressed on how they took on, not only a powerful god… twice (Gozer), but to defeat a powerful dark wizard Prince Vigo of Carpathia, and Ivo Shandor who was doing abominable experiments that neither non-magical humans, nor wizards would ever do.

While staying with them, Harry starts to learn how to combine magic with the science the Ghostbusters have on hand.

When he’s given a chance to learn magic in his home country, Britain, The Ghostbusters go over to help when the US Magic Gov’t sends them to help. There, they discover Hogwarts to be overrun with Class V [5] and VI [6] ghosts (Class IV [4] ghosts are basically human souls and since they show no hostility, they’re left alone).

The Ministry of Magic soon discovers these “muggles” that are able to fight ghosts and magical things, but by that time, Voldemort is being discovered by Harry and his friends. This leads to where events happen and before Voldemort is able to fly through Harry to get the “curse spell thingy”, the Ghostbusters with their tech is able to grab “He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named-For-It-Is-Cursed”, and trap him, altering the story somehow.

Things that Need to happen in the story:

Since it is the 90s, the Ghostbusters VG and the first two films are cannon

A cousin or nephew of one of the Ghostbusters is there when Harry arrives, and is there throughout the story. Not only is he there to help relate to Harry being in this new world that he’s been thrown into, but at the point of being at Hogwarts, he defends Harry and his friends when Draco(?) insults them. He challenges the Ghostbuster, leading to a really cool duel between the young wizard, and the non-magical human with the particle accelerator and thrower strapped to their back. BONUS: they somehow beat Draco.

Some of the ghosts and dead wizards are surprised by these new modern humans that are un-phased by the magic, ghosts, and sentient items. They are also intrigued by some of their science, and how it blurs with their magic.

Voldemort is captured and thus altering the plot. It would make things humorous to indicate that this wasn’t that hard to capture while the wizards who fear this guy is surprised to find him defeated by a young boy and his non-magic distant uncle and HIS friends.

That’s about whatever I could think of. But the possibilities are there for a epic crossover involving a group of blue-collared paranormal investigative scientist, and the “Boy-Who-Lived” becoming the “Boy-Who-Lived-With-The-Ghostbusters”.

Go nuts and have fun.

Been thinking about how Donnie and Leo’s insecurities juxtapose each other.

Donnie is insecure about his place in the family, but confident in who he is outside of it.

Leo is secure about being a part of the family, but thinks he’s nothing outside of it.

I think it’s a very interesting comparison that reflects their respective personalities, Donnie’s “Will all I have to offer be enough?” versus Leo’s “Do I even have anything else to offer?”

Dear people who aren't physically disabled who plan to write fantasy settings:

"Geordi la Forge is still literally disabled. His visor helping him does not erase his disability and make him magically abled."

"Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender is still literally disabled even though her Earthbending helps her. It does not make her disability ~magically~ go away."

"Having your disability be accomodated does not mean the disability goes away. Having a prosthetic hand, even one that's made of magic, does not mean you're not disabled."

"Magical mobility aids do not mean disabled people don't exist. It just means they use magical mobility aids instead of plastic or metal ones. A limb made of magic is still a prosthetic even if it's made of the soul of the universe instead of plastic and metal."

Then another no panel: "'There's no disabled people beacuse magic'".

Then one last yes panel: "'Magic helps disabled people in a variety of ways'".

This also applies to science fiction; just because Luke Skywalker's prosthetic hand is super advanced doesn't mean it's no longer a prosthetic, or that he's not disabled. Same with Darth Vader - just because he has a suit that lets him breathe and walk around doesn't mean he's not disabled. (And Star Wars' propensity for making the villains visibly disabled while the heroes disabilities get covered up by super advanced prosthetics is a topic that deserves its own post, especially with how ableist some of the authors of the books are. Troy Denning is especially ableist)

Edit:

Because people keep being fucking obnoxious and ableist in the tags, yes,,, motherfuckers, if you refuse to have disabled people in your setting, that does make you fucking ableist. If you say that the magic is used to cure all disabled people and that's why they don't exist, that's fucking eugenics.

You cannot ""cure"", more like remove all disabilities without fucking eugenics. Magically automatically destroying disabled fetuses (a very fucking popular trope!) is eugenics.

The only way to fucking "cure" autism is to fucking kill all autistic people, also known as eugenics!

What about people with PTSD? Do you just fucking brainwash them so they aren't traumatized anymore?

Do you force all Deaf people to be able to hear? Do you force all blind people to be able to see? Do you force all anosmics to be able to smell?

Do you magically force everyone with a speech impediment to speak to your standards?

Do you force everyone born with bodily or facial differences to live up to your fucking standard of beauty?

You cannot fucking say "disablities don't exist in this universe because magic cures everything" without inherently saying that eugenics exists in your fucking universe.

Not all fucking disabilities need a cure. If you ""cured"" my autism I'd just be fucking dead. You'd literally just be changing me into what you think is fucking acceptable.

Stop fucking arguing in defence of ableists on my fucking post so you can pretend that eugenics has never been written about in magical settings when it is extremely fucking prevalent.

And while we're fucking at it, let your gods damned characters become disabled over the course of their story, and call them disabled within the fucking story. I don't care if they're a robot. I don't care if they have magic. Not all fucking damage can be fixed. Curses exist. Hardware can go out of fucking date and no longer be manufactured anywhere.

Let your characters become disabled and do not magically fucking cure them back to brand new every single time they get hurt. The only thing you accomplish by doing that is destroying any chance of ever having stakes.

No, "magical healing leaves scars on the mind from the memory of the injuries though!!!!" is not fucking good enough. Let your characters have scars. Let them become disabled. Stop being fucking ableist cowards.

No, motherfuckers, you do not get to comment "if the disability was caused by magic it's not ableist to cure it with magic". You are the ableist this post is about. Shut the absolute fuck up, stop treating being disabled as the worst possible outcome, and just admit you're a fucking ableist. There is no way to "cure" autism without eugenics! There is no way to "cure" people with body differences without eugenics! There is no way to make disabled people nonexistant in your setting without eugenics! Thinking you can and should "cure" and "fix" all disabilities IS EUGENICS!

I do not fucking care what the ableist rules are in Dungeons of Dragons. Do not fucking throw ableist rules for a game I have never and will never play at me on a post I made so that people could learn how to make their settings less ableist. If the rules in Dungeons and Dragons are ableist, then fucking change them. If you don't want to change them, then stop fucking playing an ableist game.

Disabled people deserve to see ourselves represented in fiction just like everyone else, without any fucking requirements that we be "cured" or "fixed" before the story ends.

How the fuck would you feel if a trans and gay character's whole story revolved around going on a quest to become straight and cis, did so, and only then was allowed to live happily ever after?

Why do you fucking think suggesting people write stories about disabled people going on a quest to be cured because it's the only way they'll ever be happy is any less fucking offensive?

This post is NOT a place for you to talk about how disabled people in fiction should have the option of curing their disabilities. It's just not. That's the fucking default for this society. That is not a revolutionary concept. It's not novel. We fucking know this society wants us gone.
