Got a preview of another song today! Very synth and rock based and it is honestly meant to be a bit of a bop, especially as I wasn't planning to add the main synth but it just sounds so good with the guitars! :D
Keep an eye here, as you might be able to see this song in my visual novel "CTRL FREAK", sooner than expected! :3
Sent this to an unsuspecting author colleague as a bunny trail from the conversation about me making a playlist to listen to while critiquing her romance novel:
Hopepunk is a subgenre of science fiction that imagines a hopeful future for humanity in pulling through or adapting to the climate crisis. Or solarpunk is, though I think solarpunk is usually more of a further future, space-faring civilization. I'm not well versed, because I don't read either, but from what I've heard, your books would make good backstories for these subgenres. You have a lot of themes in common.
I think of space opera as having very grand, classical film scores. (I.e. Star Wars, which draws heavily from Holst's The Planets) I think of cyberpunk as being very electronic, with a driving beat and minor keys. I think of steampunk as being brassy and kind of jazzy, drawing heavily from Big Band or Swing. But I haven't encountered hopepunk or solarpunk in a visual medium yet, and I don't have a sense of its musical genre conventions. It seems like it might want to verge into utopian-associated traits (typified in early Star Trek, maybe heavy on harps), but there's got to be more to the genre than that, so I have no idea.
The Polvos! - Darkness Emotion Review (English and Español) (2019)
Mack of Fuzztlán looks at Darkness Emotion, a hidden space/stoner/post-rock gem from Chilean act The Polvos!, released on Nasoni Records in 2019.
The whole album leaves me with the sensation, in its construction and the formation of melodies, of being on a space trip due to the constant use of ambiances and atmospheres achieved between guitars and synthesizers. The mixture of influences, both those declared by the band and those that I, the listener, associate with it, result in tremendously evocative rock that could easily be part of the soundtrack of an adventurous Sci-Fi movie or a cartoon about outer space.
More music while I polish "CTRL FREAK"! :D This one is just another later song I made, for some reason I got inspired by calling it one of the main character's songs for fun!
Got a lot done in the game itself, but I am very paranoid so I am polishing things a lot still! XD
