Now that Mediafest reveals are shortly coming I wanted to highlight three of my fav fics from the fest: 

It’ll be Alright When the Morning Comes -- a timeloop featuring stevie and rachel taking place on david and patrick’s wedding day. insanely well-written, and I loved seeing stevie and rachel both evolve in their relationships to themselves as well as to david and patrick. 

there’s no such thing a monster’s inc AU -- yes I didn’t know what to make of that premise either but this is a beautiful story about reconnecting with a childhood friend! also featuring tammy as the therapist an excellent character

From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Bathilda E. Schitt a lovely story of David and Alexis running away to live at the Met! I loved Mixed-Up Files as a kid and this story is really sweet and well done.

Patrick Brewer was not a college student. At one point he had been, though. Graduated with a degree and everything. Patrick Brewer was a journalist. Well, a copy editor, really, with writing aspirations. He had been at the paper for six years, and this was the first assignment he’d ever had. At the ripe old age of 28, he was going undercover to investigate allegations of cheating by members of the baseball team.

A Never Been Kissed AU or, have I learned my lesson about writing AUs based on late 90s or early 2000s movies? I have not.

Rec [written by doingthemost]: This is an angsty delight! Short and bittersweet, this fic looks at Alexis' adjustment period to New York and the regrets she's collected along the way regarding a certain café waitress. It's a sad, realistic, painful look at how relationships can change with time.

Summary: The last time she had sex was the night Patrick left town — she’d gone out and gotten far too drunk and woke up the next morning in a stranger’s bed hating herself. This feels different, more deliberate; she’s pretty sure there are worse ways to kick-start getting over her ex-fiancé than a one night fling with a hot lumberjack-looking guy she’ll never see again.

Rec [written by yourbuttervoicedbeau]: Am I biased because this is a podfic of my fic? Yes. Am I biased because this was a birthday present for me? Also yes. Will I apologise? Absolutely not. It’s a phenomenally crafted podfic and everyone should give it a listen!

Knowing that she is going to have to travel home alone and come to terms with the fact that the future she thought she had all figured out is actually never going to come to fruition.

Rec [written by yourbuttervoicedbeau]: I’m a sucker for Rachel, I’m a sucker for post-Barbecue fics, I’m a sucker for this fic specifically. It’s beautifully, carefully written, full of pain and honesty and hope.

David follows Patrick’s gaze to the ferris wheel that towers above them, colorful buckets swaying as they slowly rotate over the pier — full circle indeed. Once upon a time, David wouldn’t have set foot on this boardwalk, much less taken a ride on that death trap, but… It’s only the first item on a laundry list of things he’s done simply because Patrick Brewer asked him to. Ironically, it’s also the last item that brings them here today.

David sighs. “We’re here to sign divorce papers,” he reminds him.

Or — On the day they're scheduled to sign their divorce papers, Patrick brings David to the place their relationship began: the ferris wheel at the Santa Monica Pier. He's secretly hoping they'll be given a sign, but a literal tsunami is a bit more than either of them bargained for."
