I am longing to be with you, and by the sea, where we can talk together freely and build our castles in the air.
- Bram Stoker, Dracula
New Slains Castle was built in the late 16th century. This imposing ruin stands perched atop tall, sea-facing cliffs on the Aberdeenshire coast. It's famously known as the inspiration for the setting of Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula.
The distinctive octagonal hall in New Slains Castle was the inspiration for the identical room that is described in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Around 498 AD, as the leader of the Scoti Tribe in the Kingdom of Dal Riata in Ulster, Ireland, Fergus the Great led his people across the north channel of the Irish Sea and there he placed his throne on the northwest shores of Britain as the New Kingdom of Dal Riata. He brought with him 'The Stone of Destiny' now call the 'Scone Stone'.
