OPEN CALLS FOR DSM 2021 AWARDS, FREE ENTRIES TILL MARCH 20TH The 'Lower Tullochgrue' boasting breathtaking views over in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The home designed by @brown_and_brown_architects is the refurbishment and extension of a traditional Scottish house. The architects replaced a dilapidated steading by a contemporary extension, with a timber and glass upper volume above a stone plinth, while maintaining the existent topography of the site at all times. Bòtann – starting Scotland’s welly boot company

Bòtann started life as an idea conceived by co-founder David Smith after attending @thedolectures. The DO people are inspiring characters, just like their books, and the videos they share on their website. Check them out here: https://www.thedolectures.com/talks  

David was particularly inspired by the @hiutdenimstory and its mission of bringing jeans making/manufacturing back to Cardigan in Wales. 

This led to wellies. Dumfries in southwest Scotland once made the best wellies in the world, so David began to explore the possibilities

An idea needs to be implemented but before you do that you have to convince others of its worth. David talked to friends and family about the idea to road test it. It met with an enthusiastic response.

Could there be a new Scottish welly company? Could it create jobs in Scotland? Could welly making and manufacturing return to these shores? One thing was certain, he was going to need a team.

An idea not only needs to inspire others it also has to convince them to get involved. Robert McCaffrey and Michael Nicholson saw something that they could mix and shape, something they could bring value to. The idea started to grow, as we began to think about creating a new type of welly.

We began to think about who might benefit from our boot, what the people we serve might want, what other things they like to own and do. Themes like modern utility, the outdoors, trainer-like comfort, practical style and heritage all ran through our discussions, as Robert worked on designing our first boot.

Thankfully we’ve come a long way since our first prototype, but that day genuinely gave us the hope and belief we needed. It gave us enthusiasm to keep moving forward.
