I totally agree! I’m FURIOUS, and i don’t get worked up over stuff like this. I’m redesigning and reanimating this transformation.

What are some of the biggest differences between Komatsu and Sako's art? They almost look identical to me.

Hmm.. I really don’t know how to explain artstyles like this lol. I’ll probably make a comparison in a photoset, but you can check @kostko_bomb’s Twitter they have photos of Komatsu’s cuts in SMC and other works. Same for Sakou.

Another comparison would be scpg1989′s Crystal art compared to sailorcrisis’ Eternal Sailor Moon drawing (crisis’ other art is pretty Komatsu, but this one is Sakou-esque). scpg calls Komatsu’s style the “evolved” style because after Act 6 Komatsu becomes the Chief AD. So majority of Arc 2 is in her style.

Check my Sakou appreciation post as well and then compare them to majority of Season 2′s BD (cus Komatsu does BD edits for S2)

Act 3, 4, 25, and 26 are probably the best episodes for a comparison. Both of them worked on those episodes. 

For starters Komatsu’s style is flatish and pointy?? While Sakou’s style has volume. Especially in the eyeballs. Sakou’s are spheres and oblong shaped (they tend to pop out), Komatsu’s are flatter and are wide and square.

Rule of thumb, Sakou’s shading is always double shaded and covers the face halfway. Her outlines are darker because they’re thicker. Her outlines when it comes to drawing hair tend to be longer at the edges too?

Side profiles are very distinct. Komatsu’s is a very deep curve while Sakou’s is more anatomically correct??

So I guess? think of Sakou as the letter U and Komatsu as the letter V?? Another take on a simplified Sakou style but more angular?? I’ll make a photo set on it

UPDATE 2: Merc and Mars down. Off to Jupiter and Mako!

UPDATE: Did Mamo and Tux, just finished Ami and about to start Merc. These are going to take a long time to finish, but I am excited to do the full cast. It will make all projects going forward MUCH easier. Im thinking I should have the inners done in a few days time. Can’t wait to infuse my interpretation of the manga into the crystal designs and show them off :)

SOOOOO.... my old computer with all my work died so i am in the midst of rebuilding. BUT! I will be creating character sheets of all the sailor senshi (and their civilian forms) over the next few weeks. I may post some WIPs here and there, but I’m not sure yet. Either way, here is a little sneak peak at moon and Usagi! These new designs will accompany a video series going into detail about the art of sailor moon crystal and its MAJOR problem with consistency. Keep an eye out!

Working on backgrounds. Thinking of reanimating the first episode of Crystal. One thing I absolutely love is the bg art. SO GOOD. Trying to stay faithful but with a slight bit more detail and crispness. Going to do more tomorrow, then maybe start the first scene. We shall see....
