Got a Crush On You
“Hey,” Katie said, giving Crush’s hand a soft squeeze, and shooting her a dimpled smile. “You still with me?” Crush answered her smile with a grin, not caring that it was too sharp by half for a normal person, and only letting it grow when Katie beamed back. “I’m here,” she promised Katie, and tried a daring wink. “Won’t go all space cadet on you again.” Yeah, sue her, flirting wasn’t exactly her thing.

“Oh, wow, those bring back memories. It’s been a while since you took our old bot out! And the picture too! God, we were so excited to get second place,” Merit said fondly. “And the old thing is still recognizable under all those new parts. Good ol’ squarebot.”
“I mostly just changed the superficial aspects of LUNK,” Pol explained. “Upgraded sensors, some new metal plates for the side that got a little dented when he got tangled with the other team’s weird reverse chopstick mechanism, remember?”
Merit laughed in her face. “I remember that dent coming from when you intentionally rammed their bot with ours while trying to get free from the tangle.”
My preview for the story I wrote for @fullsteamzine, which is a charity zine of absolutely fantastic work focused on female and nonbinary characters in STEAM! Preorders are open until July 18th, you can pick up a copy here at the zine's bigcartel, or get more info at the zine's carrd. All proceeds will be going to the Malala Fund to help girls gain greater access to education!

Title (& link): the forgotten heroes of a forgotten war
Fandom: Commander Rao (comics)
Words: 1,142
Rating: Teen
Summary:
Kasey made sure to put her name in their mouths, on their lips, in their prayers. People would remember Commander Rao and every time they said her name, Kasey gave Julie what little she could, and much less than she really deserved.
No body. No grave. No monument. But she could give her a legacy.
You have my back, I'll have yours. Together we'll make it out of this shithole, okay?
Created for the Collateral Damage prompt for @herohardshipsbingo!

Summary:
“I exhumed his grave.” The words came sharply out of Bruce’s mouth, and he grimaced at the force of them. He was supposed to have more control than this.
The memory had his hands twitching again, digging through the dirt of his son’s grave in the middle of the night, half terrified of what he might find there, and hoping that there’d be nothing. An empty grave would be proof. An empty grave would give him everything he needed to keep going.
When he’d finally hit the coffin’s lid with a dull thump, he’d stopped for a minute to gather himself.
It didn’t take much longer after that to clear the whole lid of dirt. There was no need to go further, the cracked and splintered wood just as revealing as if Bruce had pried open the coffin himself. Except he hadn’t had to, because Jason already had. The wood was cracked from the inside out, and the nightmares he’s had in the days since his trip to the graveyard resurfaced.
Jason, tearing frantically at the lid of his own coffin. The six feet of packed dirt he’d claw through even once he got through the lid.
“I exhumed his grave,” Bruce repeated, softer this time. “There was nothing there. He wasn’t there."

Summary:
“Barry,” Bruce said, amused and not bothering to keep his voice down. “I’m not stealing your villain. Mick and I have been friends for years.”
“Friends?” Barry asked, incredulous. “Years?!”
“A little over fifteen now,” Heat Wave added, approaching the two of them.
“FIFTEEN YEARS?!” Barry brought up a hand to massage his temple. “I’m either dreaming or I’ve crossed over into another dimension again,” he muttered.

Summary:
“The question is,” Duke wondered out loud to Bruce’s stony form. “why you’d stay out until daylight.”
It wasn’t like Bruce to take a break; he was too much of a control freak for that. And yet here he was, perched on the edge of a building, having made the decision to sit the day out. Duke unfocused his eyes and stared off into the middle distance, letting his Sight sweep over Gotham as he tried to spot anything that might warrant Batman of all people taking a break.
“Oh. Oh no.”
Or, the trials of being related to a reanimated bog body with a fondness for jello salad and a penchant for revenge.

Pairing: Mick Rory & Bruce Wayne
Summary:
When Bruce talks about the first time he met Mick, he tells a story about going into a flower shop that had been connected to some suspicious offshore accounts he was tracing only to be confronted with the biggest man he’d ever seen, arm muscles rippling under the heft of a hundred pounds of soil, and a glare like he was ready to murder pointed right at Bruce.
When Mick talks about the first time he met Bruce, all he can think is “that rich fuck” with some learned fondness.

“If you even so much as scratch that table, Alfred is going to kill you, and world’s greatest detective or not, not even Bruce will be able to find your body,” Tim said from his position on the floor. “It’s a Wayne family heirloom.”
“Unlike you, Drake, I’m no fool,” Damian sniffed. “I am a highly trained assassin; I know what I’m doing.”
Here’s the preview for my piece for the @holycoloringzine, a coloring book batfam zine with small fics to go with each page! I worked with the wonderfully talented @bardicious for this project, and I’m really excited for everyone to see the final product of all our work!
Preorders open September 5th!

Summary: The thing was, Duke was almost positive that his neighbors were criminals.
He wasn’t sure they even counted as neighbors. There were way too many of them to actually be staying in the tiny apartment next door and he could hear them coming and going at all times of night, so he was pretty sure about the fact that none of them actually lived there. Except maybe Jason Todd, but he was definitely a criminal, so that was a point in favor of Duke’s criminal conspiracy theory.
Or, In which Duke fights crime, wages a petty war with his criminal neighbors, and entirely fails to put two and two together.

@dottie-wan-kenobi tagged me to post the last line I wrote! Thanks for thinking abt me!
Connie’s eyes have always been fixed on the horizon, looking to the next step, the next place to go, but her sister’s eyes have always reached towards the stars.
Their mother used to say that Thea had the universe in her eyes, and it was true, too. She had blue eyes, just like Connie’s, but hers had little brown freckles and lines that almost seemed to map out the constellations she loved to stare at.
I am... really awful with knowing who to tag in these things, but I’ll tag @flat-san, @dato-potato, @therosielord, and @spoiledspine! You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to tho!

Paring: Merle/Davenport
Sixteen years after the Day of Story and Song, Merle still has no idea what to get his family for Candlenights. He’s known most of them for over a hundred years now, and the rest for a little over fifteen, but his presents are terrible and he knows it. Which is precisely why he can’t wait for the gift giving part of Candlenights to roll around.
His presents have always been fairly mediocre, but this year, he thinks, he’s really knocked it out of the park.
