Can't believe I've never asked this, but how would the townspeople react to the farmer having a baby (With the idea that they've already been here a while so they are an established member of the community).
Maybe when they are pregnant and when they've had the baby if it's not too much? (Especially if it happens to be their grandchildren)
I have to admit, I had to translate the question several times because I was hella confused. Spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out if you meant a Farmer who already has a baby (like, 2+ years old) or a Farmer who just had a baby (just being born/adopted), or the fact that Farmer came to town with a child and the child is already a full-fledged member of the community, or.... I feel dumb, I'm sorry... Hope I understood the question correctly, dear anon.
I'm not going mention pregnancy to make the Farmer without a specific gender (everyone can imagine their own Farmer). I hope that's okay with you, or feel free to ask the more specific question again. I will also write in this hedcanon exclusively non-marriage SDV candidates. Hope it's alright too! ❤️
_________________________________________
Oh-ho-ho! You can't hide anything from the moms and gossips of the Stardew Valley. Caroline and Jodi have already told each other everything in great detail: how cute the baby is, how happy the parents are. If it so happens that the child is their grandchild, their joy will not be limited - they already dream of the days when they, already as grandmothers, will spoil their grandchildren and coo over them.
After arriving home, Kent couldn't remember the last time he smiled sincerely. The only people who could see his smile were his family members, and that was rare. So when Kent saw the little baby laughing in Farmer's arms, he smiled so broadly that his wife and sons were even startled for a moment. In fact, the sight of the cute little baby reminded him of Sam and Vincent when they were just as little. He was grateful to both Farmer's baby and Farmer themself for helping him remember a quiet life, it was those memories that allowed him to get back on track a little faster with his beloved family and community.
Robin will be calmer than her friends, but will also be endlessly happy for Farmer when they have a baby/adopt a child. As a woman with good experience of motherhood, she will help the Farmer if they have difficulties with caring for the baby or just give some useful advice if they ask for it. And watch out if it's Robin's grandchild - she'll spoil them with wooden toys she makes herself, and she'll be a cool grandma in general.
Don't let it fool you that George is grumpy because small children are very loud, interfere with the TV and are on their way to inadvertently break a tea set in the cupboard of his house. George loves children, and if it's Alex and Farmer's baby, he'll just melt with sentimentality. He still can't believe he's lived long enough to call himself a great-grandfather..... Hear that, suckers? He's now a proud great-grandpa with the best grandchildren and great-grandchildren!
There's a baby in the Farmer's family? And Pierre just happens to have the best baby food in the store, and at a great price, plus ten percent off. All the best for a baby! .....What? Okay, okay, don't give him that look. He may be a businessman (albeit a "slightly" desperate businessman), but he's not completely insensitive. He's actually happy for Farmer and their partner that they have a long-awaited child. He's even happier that Farmer's partner happens to be his daughter Abigail. The "businessman" Pierre is relegated to the background, so the first place will be taken by "grandpa" Pierre, who is just very caring and gentle with kid, and maybe a little overprotective.
And who do we have here? Hehe, such a cute baby, they are very similar to Farmer, the same energetic, running around looking for adventure and problems. Oh, don't look so angry at Lewis, he's just joking. The Farmer has long been a full member of the Pelican Town community, and he will also happily welcome a new little member as well. At such moments, he feels proud of the position of mayor. Just please keep an eye on the baby, because they will definitely be troublemakers, just like the Farmer themself. What? Don't look at him like that, he's absolutely right!
Heh, how happy the old fisherman's eyes are that there are already many young people there in their small town. Usually all the young families with children go to the big cities to look for happiness, but Willy is glad that the Farmer has found their happiness, and family, right here. His heart will melt at all if the Farmer's child becomes interested in fishing, just like their parent once. Considering that he treat Farmer almost like his own child, it's safe to say he now has a grandchild.
No one would have thought that Demetrius, after learning that Farmer had a baby, would have such a small bout of paranoia. Since Farmer is a frequent visitor to their home, knowing that they would be visiting with the baby, Demetrius decided to remove all sharp and glass objects from the lab, as well as some of his wife's sharp tools. And the concerns for the baby's safety will be even greater if it's his grandchild. And he will be equally concerned and paranoid if it is Maru's or Sebastian's child. So don't let Sebby say that his stepfather doesn't love him: he does, but it's hard for him to find common ground with him. But he will show concern for his safety to everyone.
It doesn't matter to Evelyn that the Farmer's baby arrived by midsummer, the caring grandmother has already sewn almost a dozen different sweaters, scarves and mittens for the Farmer's baby as gifts. And it doesn't matter if it is her great-grandson or not, she will treat them with the same love and care, and will always be happy to see them and Farmer in her home. What a saintly granny, nothing to add, bless Yoba for her good heart!
Well, as if Marlon and Gil knew in advance that the Farmer was about to have a baby, as they recently stopped by the Guilds and gave the reason why they wouldn't be able to temporarily handle the adventurer's duties. Farmer had served the Valley well, protecting it from the monsters that lurked in the mines, so the old adventurers quietly let them go and wished them, their partner, and the baby happiness. Maybe when their child grows up and behaves well, Uncle Marlon and Gil will show them their collection of weapons, or tell them different stories about their adventures.
Yay! More people to play with! Jas, Vincent and Leo are excited to have another person in their company for tea parties and outdoor games. And that's all they need to be happy.
Hmm... A new addition to their family? Ah, yes, Rasmodius remembers that moment too, when he saw the Farmer's future. Though, to be honest, he saw other developments that bothered him greatly, for it included his ex-wife, strange statues, and a prismatic shard... But he was glad that Farmer had chosen this fate, though outwardly it would appear that he didn't care at all about the lives of the people of Stardew Valley. If child will show an interest in magic, feel free to visit his tower anytime. And no, he won't be giving their child that moss and fly agaric potion, so please stop looking at him so suspiciously.
Oh, how wonderful that Marnie's friend had a little happiness, and the Farmer sometimes brings this little happiness everytime they goes to visit her at the Ranch. Such a wonderful baby, she is sure that they and Jas will become wonderful friends in the future. Of course, she loves her niece and nephew (who sometimes behaves like a child too), but sometimes she would like to know what it's like to be a mother. Well, at least know what it's like to be loved. What? No no don't think anything like that, Jas and Shane love Marnie mutually, she just means SOMEONE, and she hopes that SOMEONE finally gets up the courage and confesses her feelings openly. Isn't that right, Mr. SOMEONE?

Yknow what I ship Marlon with both Marnie and Gil he has two hands
But like seriously, I love the idea of Marlon and Gil being the adventuring power couple that grew old together, and I love the idea of Marnie and Marlon because Marlon shows actual interest in her and Marnie deserves better than Mayor Lets-make-a-gold-statue-of-myself-instead-of-helping-the-community Lewis and I just think they'd be cute
So
Why not have both?
Anyway
I have fic ideas now :D

Random Halloween headcanon...
Spirit's Eve was the first festival Mayor Lewis instituted after the bus broke down to lift everyone's 'spirits.' 👻
Alex is totally into superheros. He fancies himself a collector of action figures and movie posters. He doesn't read the comics, but he likes watching a movie with his grandpa every in awhile. George and Alex bonded over Captain America. Alex got his grandpa a Cap tee shirt for Spirit's Eve. 🦸‍♂️
Sam once secretly took Vincent into the spooky maze. He freaked out more than his little brother. Vincent bought him a maple bar with coins from his piggy bank to cheer him up. 😬
Emily makes Jas a fairy princess costume every year. Marnie helps with the embellishments. Haley wore a matching outfit one year. Jas was smiling the whole time. 🧚‍♀️
Shane would absolutely wear a chicken costume with a beer mug in one hand (or a Monster if he is sober). 🐔
Leah secretly hopes the punch is spiked... always. And she would be down on the dance floor doing the Monster Mash. 🧟‍♀️
Elliott wants to suck your blood. But he's totally harmless... or is he? 🧛‍♂️
Linus helped the Wizard create the maze. He makes sure no animals or creatures are hurt in the process. Also he appreciates when you give him a piece of candy from your stash. 🍬
Marlon and Gil staged a sword fight one year in the town square. The Mayor was worried about insurance coverage so they haven't been allowed to do it again. Instead the Adventure Guild throws a little after party in the mines. 🎃
Abigail and Sebastian compete to finish the maze first. Every year the Wizard tries to make it harder and harder. The loser passes out candy at the Winner's home. Really it's win-win for Abi. 😉
Pam would try to cosplay Sandy 2.0 from Grease and totally embarrass her daughter.💄
Victor doesn't like to dress-up. He has worn the same costume for years - a construction worker from the YMCA song. He doesn't get why the ladies love it. He sits in the corner sipping spiked punch and reading his architecture magazines. 👷‍♂️
Wizard would make a wonderful Willy Wonka. Complete with golden tickets to see his concoctions in his tower. Not quite as chocolatey as expected though. 🍫
Evelyn makes a splendid Mrs. Claus. The white muff keeps her warm on a chilly late fall evening. 🤶
Kent can't stand Halloween. He stays home and watches horror films. Once Vincent goes to sleep, Kent and Sam watch an alien movie together. Sam doesn't sleep a wink after, but he likes to spend time with his dad (and eat popcorn). 👽
Andy dresses up like a Cow! Moo! Hangs out with Shane drinking. 🐮
Martin is a Potterhead. You're a wizard, Harry! 🧙‍♂️
Sophia dresses up as Sailor Moon. And she looks adorable. I am a pretty Guardian who fights for love and Justice. 🌙

Who sleeps in the middle?
Who is the most protective?
Who is like a therapist?
Do A and B have a stronger bond with each other? Or do C and B or C and A have a stronger bond? Or are A, B, and C close together [equally]?
Who can be trusted to be left home alone?
Who is the shortest?
Who is the tallest?
Who likes cuddles the most?
Riley usually sleeps in the middle, but sometimes Gil if Riley starts to feel too claustrophobic!!
These three are all very protective of each other when necessary! They all have their own ways of showing it.
Gil is absolutely the therapist of the three, and is happy to share his thoughts or help someone sort through theirs. Marlon very well could be the therapist of the group but he doesn’t like to push that on anyone so mainly keeps his thoughts to himself unless prodded.
In the beginning, Gil and Marlon have a strong bond, and Marlon and Riley have a strong bond. Riley and Gil need time to get to know each other better but I feel like this would become a very equal partnership between all three with time.
Riley is the only one who isn’t trusted to be left alone for long periods of time. Neither Gil nor Marlon feel confident that she would eat properly or get enough rest if left to her own devices.
From shortest to tallest: Riley 5’9”, Gil 5’10”, Marlon 6’4”
Gil is the most cuddly!

Did some rough sketches of my idea of younger versions for some of the older Stardew Valley characters.
Obviously who knows what time period the actual games are meant to be set in but I headcanon that these four would have been young adults in the 80s.

Fic - Marlon and Gil
Title: Protector of the Valley Word Count: 1,792 Summary: Marlon has served as the protector of the valley for far too long. His greatest fear is that someday, he won't be able to any longer. Notes: The title is based on an in-game achievement of the same name, earned by completing all of the Adventurer's Guild monster slayer goals. This story is written for the writing prompt "Marlon's Adventures".
Tumblr media
“He’s fearless. He fights the monsters in the mines to prevent them from escaping and attacking the town.”
“When he was younger, he took on a slime four times his size… and won. He keeps a jar of slime on his mantle as a trophy.”
“Rumor has it that he has a pet shadow monster.”
“I once saw him catch a bat mid-air and crush it with his hands.”
“At Spirit’s Eve one year, he high-fived a skeleton!”
“I heard that he has a vacation home in the mines and goes fishing in the lava for fun.”
“He once beat up a werewolf with his bare hands.”
“Ever wonder how he lost his eye? He didn’t lose it in an injury, he lost it in a card game with the devil himself.”
Many legends had spread throughout Pelican Town about the reclusive adventurer who lived in the mountains. Some were true, some clearly had to be embellished. Yet it was never clear what exactly was fact and what was fiction. The line between the two always seemed to blur. But regardless of where the truth truly lied, there was one fact that was certain; nobody in town really knew Marlon Malloy.
At most Marlon was a brave and fearless adventurer, a quiet protector of the town. At the very least, he was an odd, eccentric man who lived a solitary life in his cabin in the woods. The few times anyone in town ever saw Marlon was at community events, and even then he would find a secluded corner of the festival to stand back and observe. His reputation generally made him too intimidating for anyone to want to approach him. It was strange to only see him a small handful of times throughout the year. Many of the people in town wondered what adventures he was up to in his normal day to day. Whatever it was, general consensus was that he likely lived a very adventurous, if not very lonely, life.
It was a cold winter morning when Marlon awoke to the usual pain in his leg. He had long since stopped needing any form of alarm clock, his stiff leg saw to it that he would wake up early every morning. Too many hours laying still in bed, his leg forced in the same position all night, made it ache to the point that the pain woke him up. It was an annoyance to never truly be able to sleep in, but Marlon was fortunate that the stiffness in his leg usually let up once he was up and moving for the day. If nothing else, it was a good enough excuse to get out of bed every morning. Marlon sat up and stretched, wincing as his aching leg throbbed painfully.
“Alright, alright, I’m getting up,” Marlon groaned to his stiff leg. Anyone overhearing him might have assumed he’d been losing his sanity in his isolation.
Using both of his hands to guide his leg over the edge of the bed, Marlon planted his feet on the floor and stood up slowly and carefully. Once he’d found his balance, he began his morning ritual of moving and stretching his muscles to warm them up. Already after a few leg stretches, his stiff leg was loosening up.
“There we go,” Marlon uttered with a satisfied sigh. “Much better.”
With one final stretch, Marlon crossed the room to get dressed. He had another long day ahead of him. A practical wardrobe was all he kept, there was no reason for anything fancy. After dressing for the day, Marlon turned to his nightstand and reached for his eye patch. It was always the final touch before leaving his room to start his day.
It wasn’t easy serving as Pelican Town’s protector. Whether the town knew it or not, their lives were much safer with Marlon patrolling the mines. He knew from the grapevine just how many rumors had spread about him; some of them true, some of them dancing in the vicinity of truth, and some so outlandish or ridiculous that Marlon was genuinely curious how anyone could believe it. It was odd to be a local urban legend, a living myth whose life and adventures were the subject of speculative gossip. Whatever images the residents in town had of him, surely his life was nowhere near as glamorous as they were picturing. Even the stories of his life that didn’t involve adventuring weren’t anywhere close to reality. The narrative being spread was that Marlon was a lonely recluse, an eccentric old man living all alone in the mountains. Nobody in town had even come close to the truth with that one.
“G’mornin’,” a low, gruff voice greeted Marlon when he stepped out of the bedroom and into the main room of the cabin.
“You’re up early again,” Marlon pointed out, crossing the room to approach the man who had greeted him.
Seated in an old wooden rocking chair, idly rocking back and forth with the brim of his hat pulled down over his face, was Marlon’s partner Gil. More often than not Gil could be found in this exact spot, rocking himself into relaxation. While Marlon still had some fight left in him, Gil’s glory days had passed. He’d more than paid his dues to the community, whether anyone in town knew it or not. Most didn’t even know he existed and Gil preferred it that way.
“You had your nightmare again, didn’t you,” Gil remarked, tilting the brim of his hat up to look Marlon in the eyes. Marlon turned his gaze away.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Marlon lied. Gil immediately scoffed in response.
“You know damn well what I’m talking about, don’t insult my intelligence,” Gil replied. “The same nightmare you’ve had twice this week already. I could hear you hollerin’ in your sleep, woke me up ‘round about 4 in the morning.”
Unfortunately Marlon knew exactly what nightmare Gil was referring to, as he’d had it yet again that night. Many would assume that if Marlon ever had nightmares, it would involve monsters from the depths of the mine closing in on him. They wouldn’t be entirely wrong, however it was never the monsters or the danger that terrified Marlon most. That fear had subsided decades earlier. The thing that haunted him most was no monster or specter from within the mines, it was the thought that someday, he would be unable to patrol the mines any longer. Whether the residents of Pelican Town knew it or not, Marlon was the last member of the Adventurer’s Guild that remained to protect the town. A decade earlier there had been more members; Gil had been in much healthier shape back then, the old farmer had been alive and ready to fight, not to mention numerous others who had come and gone over the years. Now, all that remained was Marlon. And even his days were numbered. The longer he fought, the more tired he became. He knew he couldn’t carry the torch much longer and time was running out to find someone to pass the torch to. The fear of failing to keep the Adventurer’s Guild alive was a prospect that haunted Marlon’s nightmares.
“I didn’t mean to wake you,” Marlon muttered.
“It ain’t me I’m worried about,” Gil pressed on. “It’s you. You carry the weight of this town on your shoulders, it’s too much of a burden. Especially now.”
“The town needs a protector,” Marlon stressed firmly.
“Says who?!” Gil spat. “You’ve given more to this town than those ingrates will ever know.”
“Gil, please,” Marlon implored, but Gil shook his head angrily.
“Ain’t nobody down there gives a flyin’ fuck about you, Marlon,” Gil went on heatedly. “Let the slimes overrun them, then maybe they’ll recognize the service this guild provided.”
“Ignorance is bliss, Gil, the town’s never had to know the sacrifices I’ve made for them; the sacrifices the Adventurer’s Guild has made for them,” Marlon replied calmly.
“As far as they’re concerned, you’re just a crazy ol’ coot livin’ all by your lonesome in the mountains swingin’ swords at rocks,” Gil uttered in disgust.
“And so what if that’s what they believe?” Marlon asked seriously.
“You don’t deserve that as your legacy,” Gil answered, his tone softening. “Not after all you’ve done.”
“I don’t do this for the acclaim or the glory,” Marlon reminded him. “Those people have no idea what lurks up here.”
“Well pretty soon they won’t have a choice, they’re definitely gonna know when you can’t go on any longer and there’s no one left to protect them,” Gil pointed out. He hardly seemed concerned over this fact.
“There… there will be,” Marlon muttered, though even he didn’t fully believe himself. “There just has to be.”
“And who might this mythical protector of the valley be, then?” Gil asked skeptically, folding his arms across his chest. “You’re an urban legend in this town, remember? No one’s gonna run up this mountain ready to join ol’ man Marlon and his crazy Adventurer’s Guild.”
“Remember the ol’ farmer who used to be in the guild?” Marlon asked suddenly as he recalled an interesting bit of gossip he’d overheard only days earlier.
“‘Course I do,” Gil answered plainly. “He was with the guild for years before he passed away.”
“His grandchild is coming to Pelican Town,” Marlon went on thoughtfully.
“And?” Gil asked, raising an eyebrow. “What, you think the ol’ farmer’s grandkid is suddenly gonna want to pick up where their grandpappy left off and take on that burden?”
“No, but it may be the only hope we have,” Marlon answered sadly. “I can’t keep this up much longer, Gil. You know that and I know that. If this town is in need of a protector, we need a new recruit to the guild. Someone younger. Stronger. If I could just talk to them, I’d-”
“Don’t pin your hopes on this one, Marlon, it’s a long shot at best,” Gil cautioned him. “That’s a mighty big sacrifice you’re askin’.”
“But it’s the only hope we have,” Marlon sighed. “I’d at least like to meet them; maybe show them the mines, test their mettle. If they can survive the early floors of the mines unscathed, maybe there’s hope after all. I have to at least try.”
Gil still did not look convinced and even Marlon himself wasn’t confident that the farmer’s grandchild would be up to the task of joining the Adventurer’s Guild. The most Marlon could do was to equip the newcomer with a decent enough sword and hope for the best. If they proved themselves in the mines then maybe, just maybe, the valley would have a new protector.

Weird and fun and slightly unhinged (and SPOILER FILLED) Stardew Valley headcanons i have:
My cows are transmasc (like Otis from Barnyard) so every time I (the player character) see them i say "Gentlemen" and give them a nod
Maru and I share notes on things we've built in the past few days every time we see each other
M. Rasmodius had two kids with two different women in town (which is why the witch divorced his ass): Abigail (duh) and WAIT FOR IT...Sebastian. We know nothing about Sebastian's father, but Seb himself is very attuned to nature and has the same slight smugness at the beginning as the Wizard. Do Seb and Abigail know they're related? No. Will they ever? Who knows. Do they feel a strong connection between them? Yes. Has it been confused for a crush and will it dissapate into a sibling-like relationship eventually? Absolutely.
Marnie knows she deserved better than Lewis. That's why she's been considering Marlon.
Gil (the monster slayer rewards guy) is Jodi and Harvey's dad.
Lewis siphons money from the town's taxes into various "town _____ funds", most of which he keeps for himself. (gold for a solid gold statue is expensive) the only reason he doesn't keep the agriculture fund is because I moved into the farm.
Evelyn and Grandpa had a long and storied romance before she met George. They were middle school sweethearts all the way through high school, but when they graduated, she left for a job in the city, and he stayed behind on the farm. He eventually met our grandmother, who he married, and when evelyn came back she was a bit saddened but she kept in touch with both of them. Soon after she met George, and that was that.
Pam and Clint are cousins
Gunther is actually running a small smuggling ring with his wife, the Travelling Cart woman (I call her Maureen). They smuggle artifacts and supplies over enemy lines.
"Our beloved Mona" in the cemetery is actually Jas and Shane's Mom, Marnie's Sister. Shane had a rough relationship with her, opting to go with his dad in the divorce, but when dad turned out to be an abusive ass, he came back to mom's. He and Mona got along a bit better and he even started thriving in school. She would make him homemade Jalapeno bacon pepper poppers as a reward for good grades, and threw him a pizza party when he made the Varsity gridball team. After he graduated, she had Jas and named him her godfather on top of being her half brother. Then she had an awful accident about a year and a half later. Shane spiraled, latched on to the addictive tendencies given to him by his father's genes, and began drinking. He asked aunt Marnie if they could crash with her for a while. He's still reeling from his mom's sudden death 7 years later when we move in.
Demetrius is working on secret military projects but can't let his family know, so he wanders off (to the lakeside and to the fountain) to work on them.
Harvey has a shelf in his apartment full of ultra expensive and intricate model planes, half of which were gifts from Jodi
Kent and Harvey have a strained relationship due to Kent having seen the true horrors of war and Harvey glorifying service in the armed forces. They get along but only just.
Pierre's secret stash is not porn, but Money. He keeps a rather large sum of gold tucked away from his family "just in case".
Shane and Alex hang out and talk about gridball more than you would think. In fact, Alex is one of the very few people Shane likes.
Claire (the cashier from Joja) hates Morris. She hates working for Joja. She hates the fact that they're causing problems in the valley. She wishes she could just own her own business here some day. And she does. When the Junimos restore the Joja building into the movie theatre, she gets a mysterious letter in the mail that says "Come bak tu valley, muvee plase is yours" (Junimos had to ask hat mouse to write it)
I have a ton more but that's it for now.

i have a request! + a little bit of a ranting because i love talking about this game (if you don't want to see the long rant you can skip to the two last paragraphs with the actual request :3)
ok so, i played SDV multiple times (although i never did the 100% challenge, i played at least 9 to 10 different saves), and i noticed that, throughout the entire game, the farmer's parents only send 4 letters for them, and for you to even receive said letters, you need to obtain certain amount of gold. plus, another detail is that only one of the parents will send you a letter (depending of the gender option you chose in-game), while the other one is never mentioned even once.
additionally, i also found interesting how, whenever Harvey mentions having to do "an emergency surgery" on the player, the parents never even send a letter mentioning it or anything. i would assume that for something as serious as a surgery, a family member would be contacted in case anything went south, but that never seemed to be the case. you simply wake up from the surgery, go home, sleep, and your parents never even show sign of being alive.
i know Eric most likely did this to 1. keep the past of the farmer as vague as possible for people who enjoy creating OCs/sonas to not have to ignore canon details, and 2. in regards of the letters, to reward the player for reaching x milestone. however, my little brain could not help but assume that the reason the farmer barely receives any letters from their parents (and when they do it's only from one of them) it's because they bought some heavy mommy/daddy issues™ baggage with them to the valley.
and that's where my request comes from: how would the older villagers (preferably those with no children and/or spouses, like Gus, Marlon, Willy, Linus, etc) react to the farmer accidentally calling them mom/dad, because the farmer views them as the parental figure they wish they had in their life? would it be awkward? would they be flattered? would they comfort the farmer? i NEED to know.
additionally, i would prefer if you could make it a mixture of angst and fluff. plus, you can choose any villager you want, i just ask you to include Willy, since he's the one that i made a father/child relationship with my OC and who inspired this request in the first place.
thank you, hope it wasn't too much!!! and take care :3
I have to say, when I first played the very first save, I was also interested in the fact that only one parent sent letters, and even the letter itself didn't say "me and your mom/dad are proud of you", but just "I'm proud of you, with love dad/mom). Then the letters stopped coming altogether. My first guess and failed headcanon for my OC is that Farmer only had one parent (the other parent abandon family/dead), and when the letters stopped coming, the other parent passed away as well. And then I thought it was a pretty dark headcanon and scrapped the idea. Don't want too much angst, nope!
I really like this ask, because in my opinion, even if Farmer has living and loving parents, they will still see some people in Stardew Valley as a parental figure, because Farmer's family is far away.
I hope you enjoy the stories, I tried to make them both sad and fluffy at the same time. Thanks for ask and enjoy! ❤️
Willy, Marlon, Linus and Gil react to Farmer calling them dad.
Willy:
Amazement, laughter and pride is what Willy felt as Farmer very emotionally showed how they caught the Legendary fish in the mountain lake, not forgetting to gesticulate. They and Willy were sitting on the docks on a late summer night when, a little tired from fishing, they began to tell each other their fishing stories over a bottle of mead.
"That fish almost tore the fishing line, but I still managed to pull it out. I swore and puffed, but I pulled it out! It was huge!" The farmer summarized his story.
"What a fisherman! Well done, lad/lass!" The old fisherman's heart rejoiced that young people were still interested in fishing.
"Thanks, Dad!" The Farmer quickly said the last phrase on emotion, but their smile quickly slipped and they slapped themselves on the mouth. Willy also sat silent, a little surprised at the last word. Dad... The sea wolf had his heart broken more than once in his youth, and he had already resigned himself to the fact that he would never hear that word. He wasn't sad, for fishing did bring him happiness. And still...
"Sorry, that was... Ugh, I didn't mean to-" The Farmer was already trying to get out of the awkward situation, except that they felt the old sailor's hand on their shoulder, Willy's eyes looking at them with pride and warmth.
"You're welcome, son/daughter. I'm really proud of you". Never did Willy think he could say such words, the words of a proud parent for his growing child. Willy did not have a wife or children, so he could not feel the pain of loss from something he never had. And yet, after that word, he felt as if a stone had been lifted from his shoulders, and a warmth flooded into the old sailor's heart when the Farmer, crying, hugged him back after his words.
Marlon:
"Kid!"
"I'm fine!" The Farmer's voice came up from the bottom floor of the mine, letting Marlon know that they weren't under a rubble pile of rocks or in a nest of monsters. After a moment, Farmer was able to climb out of the hole in the floor on their own, unharmed, just a couple of scratches and with dirt.
Seeing that the Farmer was standing on their feet and unharmed, Marlon sighed in relief. But immediately, anger filled the old one-eyed adventurer's chest. Using a mega bomb on slimes - how did they even think of this!? The uppermost levels of the mines can collapse from a not too strong explosion, and then there's explosives of such power!
"Things went a little off plan, but we still destroyed those slimes. I call it success," the Farmer didn't have time to finish, as Marlon walked up to them quickly and gave them a not too strong, but quite painful smack upside the head. The Farmer immediately writhed in discomfort.
"Ouch! Why?"
"What were you thinking!?" It was the first time the Farmer saw Marlon so angry, the one-eyed monster hunter rarely lost his temper, "Have you lost your mind? Using a bomb, here! You could have died under that rubble!"
"But I-" Marlon interrupted Farmer again, raising his hand in a gesture.
"We have to think about every step we make in a fight, and what did you do?" Marlon was already speaking more calmly, but his tone remained the same steely. The Farmer had already feel ashamed and regretted their careless decision.
Yet, when Marlon calmed down and scolded the Farmer, taking their word that they would never act so recklessly again, the elder adventurer offered to return to their Guild, since it was getting dark. The Farmer breathed a sigh of relief, and on the exhale they said: "You're such a dad..."
Marlon stopped after that, turning to face the Farmer, who seemed to be surprised at their own words. And Marlon himself was surprised at how he snapped at the shout: he knows that the life of an adventurer is a constant risk, but Farmer had become a close person to him to let them risk their lives so recklessly. Just like... Just like his own child. And then they call him dad...
After Farmer's words, the one-eyed adventurer hummed playfully:
"In that cases, I, as a 'dad', officially declare to you: once again you use a mega bomb at the first levels, or do another stupid act, and I will flog you with a belt so that you won't be able to sit for a week, let alone swing a sword", Marlon is unlikely to ever carry out his threat, but he must make it clear to the Farmer that he is not joking.
"Ok, ok! I won't do it again! Sheesh...", Not wanting to argue with their mentor any further, the Farmer quickly followed Marlon to the exit of the mines. Before they left the cave, Marlon put a hand on their shoulder.
"Stay vigilant, adventurer. I've lost many people dear to me to let this happen again..."
Linus:
Linus hadn't noticed that the Farmer had managed to doze off by the camping fire. After all, a hearty supper of fried mushrooms had put the Farmers to sleep and made them fall into the realm of dreams. Early fall had already rewarded the Stardew Valley with cool nights, and so Linus decided to wake the Farmer so they could head to their warm home. The task was not an easy one: besides the delicious food, the Farmer had been very tired lately, and so he slept like a dead man.
"Get up, my friend, it's time for you to go home," alas, all of Linus' efforts were unsuccessful, and then stopped altogether when Farmer sleepily said: "Dad, please, five more minutes..."
"...Dad?"
Linus heard many words for himself: homeless, crazy, wild man, freak, stinker, weirdo. But Dad...?
While Linus was processing the information, Farmer had already managed to fall back into a deep sleep. The wild man decided to let Farmer finish his sleep in peace here near his tent. He took out a warm blanket from the tent, which he had made himself from fur, and covered Farmer, who was shivering a little from the cold night.
"Sweet dreams, my child", Linus had never thought that Fate would let him consider someone his child and pass on his wisdom, even if they were not related by blood. He made a promise to himself to always keep an eye on this kid and to help them in any way he could, whether by advice or deed.
Gil:
The knocking of stone against stone. Bang. And another ban
Another failure.
"Ah, damn it..." The Farmer cursed, throwing two geodes at their feet.
"Try it again, kid, you'll learn in time. See, you do it like this..." Gil again demonstrates how to open the geodes by himself, without Clint's hammer. With movements that had been honed over the years, he again held two halves of a split geode in his hands, from which amethyst and rock crystal druzes glistened.
"You didn't get into farming the first time either, yeah? You told me yourself, kiddo". Gil was absolutely right - to achieve a prosperous farm, the young Farmer had to work really hard, and success did not come immediately. So Farmer, sighing tiredly, took the geodes in their hands again in an attempt to open the mineral. Knock, knock, knock.
Crash.... Pop.
It worked!
"Told ya, kid", Gil smiled at the excited Farmer, who, twisting the two halves of the open geode, couldn't believe their own eyes.
"Yo, I finally did it! Thanks, Papa!"
It took the Farmer about ten seconds to realize what they had just said. Their cheeks flushed. Oh...
Gil, on the other hand, was quite ok to such a word in his address. In fact, he did not even miss the opportunity to tease the young adventurer a little.
"Papa, huh?" Though deep down Gil was touched by the fact that he had become this kind of father figure to Farmer, he wouldn't miss the opportunity to have a little fun. Especially since he knows that Farmer, though embarrassed by their confession, will also catch Gil's mood.
And the old adventurer is not mistaken.
"Well, should I call you mom then?" The Farmer was not in debt, deciding to play along with Gil as well.
"And that's how you talk to your papa, kid?" Gil rewarded the Farmer with a playful slap on their shoulder, "Come on, get outside. There's a whole bag of geodes lying by the supply boxes. Bring it over here and we'll practice some more," Farmer nodded and ran merrily toward the Guild exit, almost hitting Marlon, who was just entering the building.
The one-eyed adventurer, seeing his cheerful friend (it was rare to find Gil in such a good mood):
"Did something happen while I was gone?" Marlon hummed favorably and waited for Gil to stop snickering and calm down.
"You can congratulate me, brother," Gil said, "I just became a dad."

Absolutely probably not true stardew headcanons. Aka Stardew headcanons on crack probably
Shane is the Wizard’s secret child. How else was he able to make BLUE chickens? 🐓Magic obviously. It’s also why his hair is purple
Jas begged to have her hair dyed purple to match Shane because she looks up to him and it’s her favorite color
Mr Qi’s skin is blue because he drank too much Joja bluu. His hair is purple because he drank too much iridium snake milk
Mr Qi is always actively evading the authorities
Y’know what, maybe Shane just fed his chickens too much Joja Bluu and that’s why they’re blue
In that case, Joja Co is suing Shane for the misuse of the color Joja Blue
The hat mouse made Mr Qi’s first hat and now he considers them like his adopted child
The Hat Mouse is immortal™️ and purposely commits tax evasion, but it’s ok because they’re too cute to arrest 🐭
Mr Qi sends the Adventurer’s Guild letters on how many of what monsters the farmer has killed and that’s how they know for their monster slayer quests
Marlon broke the bus to Calico Desert because all his adventurers were dying in the Skull Caverns
Mr Qi and Marlon were once in a very brief relationship and now prefer not to talk about it 👍
Marlon has accidentally committed arson with the napalm ring before and Gil has banned him from using that ring
The reason why you can’t wear more than two rings at once is because you are legally only allowed to wear rings on your ring fingers, and wearing two on one ring finger will jam the effects
Emily is able to possess an increased effect just by holding a gemstone, like one that you would get from wearing a gem ring, except she’s just holding it
Emily constantly wears a ring of Yoba
Popular to contrary belief, Harvey doesn’t sleep
And he owns a hot java ring ☕️
Sebastian is secretly just a pile of frogs in an emo trenchcoat
Maru is singlehandedly going to start the robot revolution
So y’know how every bachelor has an unobtainable weapon except Shane and Emily because they were made bachelors later on?
So basically Shane’s weapon is “Shane’s Basket of Eggs” and Emily’s is “Emily’s Parrot Perch”
The farmer is just straight up a cryptid with no concerns for their health 👌
Warp and Rain totems only work because some magical being looked at the gremlin of a farmer and was like “Yeah, we should give that kind of power”
The Wizard accidentally killed the farmer with tree poisoning from the drink he gave them because he forgot mortals were allergic to trees, and then he had to quickly revive them before anyone got suspicious… And that’s why the farmer can see ghosts in the mines and Skull Caverns 👻
The farmer is too powerful. They can kill ghosts??? Also are all the ghosts they encounter just adventurers who died terrible deaths and are now just trapped in the mortal plane destined to die again? Is Grandpa trapped in the mortal plane too?? Can you kill Grandpa??? More at 12- 👉👉
That thing that escaped from the Strange Capsule now works for Joja
The truck driver and orange haired cashier at the local Joja live there and don’t have their own names. They are known as the Cashier and Truck Driver employees. No one remembers their old names because Morris stole them
Morris is currently trying to steal Shane and Sam’s names like he did with the other employees but it’s very tricky to do when they don’t work there 24/7 (yet)
Mayor Lewis takes a tax off of everything you put in the shipping bin without telling you
The old mariner that gives you the Mermaid’s pendant died on a rainy day 🌧
The cloaked figure at the Night Market that sells you a farm warp totem warps to your farm at night and dances around after 2pm whenever they visit the Valley
Harvey is gonna propose soon to the Night Market coffee man probably maybe not…… (with the hot Java ring too-)
Slimes are the polar opposites of Junimos
Whenever a tomato enters the valley, they are immediately declassified from being fruits from the sheer power of Robin’s tomato fruit salad hating carpentry aura 🍅
Why does Mr Qi have his own currency, gems, and fruit? Narcissism 🔵👉👉
The entire Valley and everyone who lives in it is cursed to be stuck in a year long (four month?) time loop where no one can age after reaching a certain point and its been going on for so long that everyone is just very tired, and that’s why they let the community center die out and why Morris moved in
Y’know that squeak sound Junimo’s make when they’re jumping and whatnot? That’s them saying Qi because they’re essentially like pokemon and so…
Theory that Mr Qi is just a blue Junimo who gained a lot of power and prestige, got into gambling, learned English, and grew up/evolved 😊👍
The Calico Desert is named so because it’s dry of cats
The farmer is somewhat immune to radiation
Cucumbers don’t exist in the valley solely to spite pickle makers
