You know around the end of season 2 I just let my head run with situations about Sonic, despite knowing Nine is his enemy now, still not letting him come to any harm at the hands of anyone from the shatterverse, and I thought I was stretching it too far, that there was noooo way the show would do something like that.
But lo and behold exactly that happened and I've been losing it since whenever thinking abt it!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just, the last episode in particular.
Back where it all began Sonic and Nine, fighting in the workshop, Sonic on the defensive, Nine on the offensive. But this time he was way less composed, attacks wild and running on pure instinct and blind rage. He's fed up with Sonic to the point he doesn't even bother with acknowledging the other noticed the palm trees, he doesn't realize that sonic finaly undertsnds. It's simply too late for that, Nine doesn't care anymore, he just wants him to fucking shut up, to stop spouting lies, to stop trying to trick him into compliance. Because that's all Sonic's been doing up until this point really(from Nine's pov anyway), trick and betray him, beat him, and then feign softness just to repeat the cycle again, sowly chipping at his sanity. And there's only so much of that a literal child can take. (Yea I just get fucking run over by a truck when this realization hits. That's a god damn KID going mad with the powers of gods)

Then their fight gets rudely interuppted by a wall exploding and in comes everyone ever, lead by Shadow resident vibchecker of twin tailed foxes the hedgehog.
They want to hurt him, oh boy its written all over their faces, and Nine definitely finds that scene painfully familiar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hes has been caught off guard, cornered and outnumbered, exhausted from the constant usage of the prism and also from the emotional strain Sonic kept putting him through.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Than he's made aware of how much damage he's actually caused during his rampage and all fight immiditely leaves him, because there's nothing left to fight for. He destroyed it all, he lost.
Nine's alone, defensless, with no way to escape and at the mercy of people who hate him. Something he lived through way too many times, not even that many years ago.
Tumblr media
Except unlike all those times in the past, Sonic was there to defend and protect him. He brought Nine back down to earth and gave him one last chance, even after no one else would.
Tumblr media
Despite everything Nine did, despite how angry and desperate Sonic got, he always held out hope for Nine, always stepped in when someone pushed the fight on the fox way too much(looking at you Renegade). Because he was the only other person that knew and cared about what Nine went through, because he finnaly understood the core motivation behind Nine's actions, and because he wanted to set things right between them once and for all.
Looking like Tails or not, cosmic truth or not, that's a child that needed to be shown love above all else, that much Sonic knew and held by.

Impulse: Oh, I need to get better at improv, I'm not very good at it :(
Also Impulse:
. Roleplays his fake role in Cleo's game almost as much as Ren and Joe, both of whom are famously good at and enjoy improv
. Chimes in every morning wake and nighttime with a friendly, sunny quip to deflect suspicion and make him seem more personable
. Plays the 'bleeding heart' play when Gem is killed and the 'butter wouldn't melt' card when put under suspicion to the bitter end
. Gets stuck right in to pretending to be a kind, caring, trusting mayor who's desperately concerned with saving his beloved town from a malignant "demon" (the emphasis on 'MY townsfolk')
. Unfurls charming, endearing speeches to confuse his fellow players, eventually convincing them to turn on an innocent Xisuma while he laughs smugly in the background
As Cleo aptly titled their video, a Mayor of Madness indeed...

Watching “Melora” with Julian’s backstory in mind is pretty interesting. Now, we obviously can’t fault Julian for being “out of character” in this episode because, keep in mind, his backstory and status as an augment hadn’t even been thought up yet. Still, if we ignore that and look only at canon, Julian being seemingly gung-ho about “fixing” Melora’s disability is pretty noteworthy. Even if Melora was doing this willingly, Julian’s major trauma comes from his own disabilities being “cured” without his permission as a child. I’m not going to comment on whether or not the way disability was written in this episode was overall good or not. I feel like some was good, some was bad, but I don’t think I know enough to give my two cents on this topic.
The point is, I really do wonder how Julian feels during this episode. I definitely don’t think his reaction makes zero sense even with his backstory in mind, but how he can still feel so eager to “fix” this person’s disability (or at least pretend to be eager), is something to explore. I’m thinking a lot of internalized ableism at the very least. (The backstory he gives about seeing a girl die when he was 10 was definitely interesting as well. Is it even true? Is he making up fake origin stories for why he became a doctor to obscure the truth?)

"Image in the Sand" (S07E01, Stardate UNKNOWN) is a solid beginning to the seventh season, giving us a thoughtful continuation of the storylines from season 6, and a hopeful look forward. There are several subplots that are engaging and I look forward to seeing how they play out.
We get to meet Ezra Dax in my episode poster for Image in the Sand. I considered the face in the sand, but this moment felt more impactful. I did keep the sand-colored background though…

Idk who I'm directing this at but I need to say it, something about Nine's redemption being rushed, when he like. wasn't even redeemed to begin with? He just apologized and promised real hard not to do it again. The show ended before he even could get his redemption and let everyone see that he was just having a really bad day and can actually do better.
His outlook and attitude towards the world haven't changed, others' opinions on him haven't changed (for the better anyway). You could argue about him fixing up the shatterspaces being what counts since that made everything be well and good by the end but like, is it really. He said he's gonna fix them once he's done with Sonic multiple times while he was actively trying to kill him (and you can trust everything he says 💯) so that wasn't his final change of heart against previous morals or anything.
Also, he never wanted to destroy the shatterspaces in the first place, they kinda just got caught in the crossfire and he merely rolled with it because he knew he had the power to fix it later and reveled in it (and you could argue the whole flipping around New Yoke as being deliberately malicious, but I think he deserved to do that, as a treat) I believe he most likely would've just disappeared off the face of the universe and fully isolated himself in the Grim if he didn't need Sonic's energy to stabilize the Prism, but that's besides the point.
What I'm saying is that an apology is not a redemption.

“least favorite” isn’t anywhere close to bad. it just shows how damn hard the competition is going, but we’re talking about gold medals all around for each actor i’ve seen portray the doctor so far.
