#seasons are changing places but global warmings definitely not real

Some things that people apparently don't know about climate change:
Climate change is normal. There has always been fluctuations in Earth's climate. Scientists aren't concerned that the climate is changing, they're worried about how fast it's changing
Greenhouse gases are normal. The greenhouse effect is natural and in fact predates human existence. Again, scientists aren't concerned that there are greenhouse gases, they're worried about the amount of them that are being produced.
The USA makes up less than 5% of the world's population, but contributes 16.7% of global CO2 emissions
Current models suggest that average global temp will increase by 1.5-2.0°C by 2100, and 0.5-7°C by 2300. That doesn't seem like much, but even lowballing those estimates will be substantially more than it has increased in the past 5 million years
Temp change is not equal in all places. Polar regions warm faster than tropical. Factors like wind and ocean currents affect whether temp will change or not. Some seasons will change more than others. Just because the temperature was lower than average one year doesn't mean that global warming isn't real.
It's called climate change for a reason, it's not all just warming. Take Texas this year for example, they had stupid low temperatures for that area, which is definitely abnormal, but doesn't point to evidence that global warming isn't real, it just means that the atmosphere is doing some weird shit because of things happening
Basically, despite the overall global temp increasing, some areas will also experience extreme temps in seasons, like one area will have extreme low temps in the winter and/or extreme high in the summer
The change in temp also affects the water cycle, which causes some areas to have much wetter soil and some to have much drier soil
The change in climate and other abiotic factors in ecosystems have been forcing rapid evolution of organisms in affected environments
But, if organisms can't evolve fast enough, then we're looking at another mass extinction, particularly arctic animals that are being affected most by the climate change causing loss of habitat and resources, and extremely sensitive organisms like almost all amphibians, like frogs and newts etc
The ocean absorbs ~1/3 of the global CO2 emissions per year. That's good right? No, because when dissolved in water, CO2 forms carbonic acid, which lowers the pH of the whole ocean, acidifying it, wreaking havoc on the ecosystem

THE PERMANENT RAIN PRESS INTERVIEW WITH EDEN SUMMER GILMORE
Tumblr media
The film scene in the Lower Mainland has never been brighter. Rising talent, including Burnaby’s own Eden Summer Gilmore, have begun to make a name for themselves, with a multitude of key roles over the past five years. Gilmore is currently starring as Sofia Bianchi in Global’s Family Law, a drama that follows “a group of flawed family members who reluctantly work together at their father’s law firm in downtown Vancouver.” Her on-screen mother is Jewel Staite, who as recovering alcoholic and lawyer Abigail, must find a way to balance (and repair!) her own career and family life.
Growing up, who were some artists you looked up to? What specific films, series or characters did you watch and feel inspired by?
Growing up I was really inspired by artists such as Taylor Swift, Emma Watson, Amy Adams, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston. They are all such strong women that really showed me at a young age I can do and be whatever I set my mind to. I was (and still am) obsessed with the Harry Potter series. I remember growing up and watching Hermione, Emma Watson’s character, and feeling inspired to be me. She never let what anyone said dictate her and always stood up for herself. I also loved the film, Enchanted with Amy Adams. I actually used to call it “princess in the hole” since Amy Adams' character comes up from a sewer grate. She also really inspired me to be myself and to see all her talents in this film was so much fun to watch and definitely inspiring. Enchanted brought together all my favourite elements of Disney Princesses, musicals, singing, dancing, fantasy, it was my favourite growing up and I can’t wait for the sequel.
As I got older and started watching the tv show Friends - Jennifer Aniston really showed me the power I have as a woman. Also, Gilmore Girls and the relationship with Lorelei and Rory was fascinating to watch. One of my favourite shows! And of course Reese Witherspoon, she is also a huge inspiration. She has portrayed such amazing strong women in her films that I find awe-inspiring. Her production company Hello Sunshine is also a huge inspiration to me and a platform for female led productions.
Were your family and friends supportive of your decision to pursue a career in the arts?
Yes, they were very supportive. My mom actually works in the industry behind the camera and she was the one who thought I might enjoy acting, which I very much did. My parents and my grandparents were the ones who always would drive me to my auditions or take me to set. I am very grateful to have my family's support. My friends are also very supportive. I am very lucky and grateful to have friends that I can share these milestones with.
Tumblr media
A defining role in your young career was starring in It’s Christmas, Eve opposite LeAnn Rimes. What did you take away from working on that project, and with LeAnn?
That was such an amazing project to do. LeAnn is so incredibly kind, I loved getting to work with her. Since this was my first lead role and I was on set almost every day, what I really took away was observing the actions of others, cast and crew on set & behind the scenes. I learnt so much about professionalism, kindness, tone and how to set healthy boundaries for yourself. Kindness can go such a long way and a positive attitude can really change the tone of a set.
LeAnn taught me so much about spreading kindness and acting professional on a set. She really is such a role model and created such a positive energy on the set. Same with Tyler Hynes (who played Liam, my dad in the show) I learnt a lot from him too, he is so lovely.
You star as Sofia Bianchi in Global’s Family Law. What have you enjoyed about portraying Sofia so far, and do you have similarities with her?
I love playing Sofia, she is awesome. There are so many things I enjoy about portraying her. We are both teenagers so there is a lot I can relate to her with. She has made me feel not alone in some of the experiences we both have gone through. I am sure many teenagers watching the show will be able to relate to her as well, I am really grateful to be able to tell her story. She is very witty and smart so it’s really fun portraying that side of her too! Her short jabs to her mom are really fun to play with. She also has a really vulnerable side to her that we see more of throughout the series. It’s really fun exploring those deep emotions and opening her up throughout the series. We definitely have similarities. As mentioned we are both teenagers so I can relate a lot to the emotions she is feeling. We both are very caring people (though Sofia doesn’t show it as often) and we both aren’t afraid to stand up for ourselves or the people we love.
Tell me about your time on-set, and working with your on-screen family – Jewel Staite (Abigail), Luke Camilleri (Frank) and Brenden Sunderland (Nico)? What are a couple of your favourite memories?
I love my on-screen family, they are all so amazing! Working with them is so great and they are all kind and generous. I love sharing scenes with them. We talked a lot about food on set, favourite desserts or recipes. Jewel and Genelle [Williams] would often buy Honey Donuts whenever we were shooting in Deep Cove which is so incredibly nice of them. Honey’s Donuts were a favourite on set. Brendon was always telling us interesting facts or stories (much like Nico’s character), he’s really sweet. I learnt so much from Luke and Jewel about acting and the industry. I really enjoy our talks in the greenroom and on set. I am really grateful to be able to work alongside them, they are both incredibly lovely! Jewel and I also tend to have a lot in common fashion wise and interests in general.
Tumblr media
What is it like working and interacting with legendary actors like Victor Garber and Lauren Holly?
Amazing! Victor and Lauren are both so incredibly kind. I was already huge fans of them before getting on the show so getting to work with them really is a dream come true. Lauren is so kind, funny, and so talented. I have learnt so much from her on set. Same with Victor, I have learnt so much from him too. They bring such a positive and warm energy to set. I am grateful to work with them. It’s still surreal to me that they are my tv grandparents.
A large part of Sofia’s storyline is her fractured relationship with her mother. Did you and Jewel talk about your characters ahead of time, and how their relationship will evolve during the course of Season 1?
Yes, definitely. We would sometimes rehearse lines or talk about the scene between takes. Or sometimes when getting a new script we would talk about Abby and Sofia’s relationship that episode. Lots of it just came on the day when we would film the scene. Playing off of each other or seeing what other layers we could bring in.
You handmade friendship bracelets as a Season 1 wrap gift, which is so sweet and creative! How’d you come up with the idea?
Yes! I already made bracelets in my free time, while watching a show or just as something to do. It was a little hobby of mine. I love having little mementos to remember events and thought the bracelets would be a great idea to remember season 1! Something we could all share and remember how special and fun filming season 1 was. I think they were a great hit with everyone.
Tumblr media
Family Law is very much a family drama, but also has crime and comedy mixed in. For those who haven’t yet tuned in, how would you pitch the show to potential viewers?
I would pitch it as a dramedy that follows the story of Abigail Bianchi, a recovering alcoholic and lawyer slowly trying to put her life and family back together while also helping other families do the same. She’s forced to work with her estranged father and two half siblings she has never met while at the same time trying to patch things up with her husband and kids. The dysfunctional family at the law office is always helping other dysfunctional families and learning things along the way. Each character is so real and rooted with so much truth. Each person watching will be able to find themselves in the characters and the stories being told. You will laugh, you will cry, and learn that in the end we are all human.
Congratulations on the Season 2 renewal! You wrapped the second season in late August, while the first season has just premiered! Was it exciting to return to set, knowing you’d have an opportunity to further Sofia’s development?
Thank you so much! Yes, it was very exciting! I had gotten to know Sofia so much in season 1 that in season 2 I just got to dig so much deeper! I got to explore other sides of her and show the audience more of who Sofia is and her relationships.
You can also be seen as young Nancy Drew in the CW’s Nancy Drew. To play such an iconic character, what has that meant to you?
It meant a lot to me. I grew up reading the Nancy Drew books. Nancy Drew was another role model to me growing up, there was always a deep connection I had with her. So to be able to bring that to the screen means so much. I find myself so much in Nancy’s character and am really grateful to be able to be a part of her story. It also meant a lot to me because I know other young girls who look up to Nancy’s character and I hope they learn from her that they are powerful and can do whatever they set their mind to. I am really grateful that I was able to play Young Nancy Drew and it will forever hold such a special place in my heart.
You’ve also gotten to work with an older Nancy, lead actor Kennedy McMann. How special has it been to have her support and guidance?
Yes, she is amazing. It’s been so special to have her support and guidance. She is a large role model to me as well. She always looked out for me on set and I am really grateful for that. I learnt so much from her as well. She is a phenomenal actor so to work alongside her has been truly a blessing and she is so incredibly kind!
Tumblr media
You’ve worked on numerous projects, including web series and independent short films (many being female-led). What do you enjoy about being a part of the vibrant B.C. film industry?
Yes! I love being a part of the B.C. film industry and working a lot on independent shorts because there is just so much joy, passion, and creativity. It’s amazing working with people who have a passion for storytelling, it’s therapeutic in a way and gives the storyteller an opportunity to tell their story their way. Working with such passionate people also allows my creative energy to flow and allows me to let so much go. I am also really grateful to have worked on so many female-led projects. Especially being young in the industry working with so many females has taught me about the power I have as a woman. But also it’s so important that female writers, directors, etc. are getting opportunities and their stories told.
How has it inspired you to pursue writing and directing in the future, and have you been able to shadow/ask questions on these projects?
It really inspired me. It showed me that I really can do whatever I set my mind to. It also showed me how much writing/directing our own stories can inspire so many other people. I was definitely able to ask questions on these projects and it’s inspiring to watch their passions come to life.
The Directors/Writers/Storytellers on these independent projects, such as Andy Alvarez, Veronica Kurz, Meeshelle Neal, Leah Beaudry, Annette Reilly and Heather Perluzzo really taught me a lot and they welcomed my questions and curiosity. I honestly can’t wait to write and direct my own independent short in the very near future
Is there a dream role or character you would like to play in the future? If not character, are there any specific film/TV genres or franchises you would like to be in?
I would love to do a comedy or horror film. I really love those genres and haven’t explored them on screen as much. I would also love to do a period piece. The 70s or 80s would be awesome. I love exploring pop culture and trends of different time periods.
Tumblr media
For other young actors like yourself, do you have any advice for how to be confident in front of the camera? What (or who) has helped you prepare for roles and work on your lines?
Totally. My main advice would be to have fun and trust yourself. Whenever we do anything our main goal should be joy. Of course preparing and such is important but joy should be our number one goal. Once we are working out of a place of fun, truth, and joy when we get to the camera we can trust ourselves and have that confidence. That also comes with working on mindset and mindfulness in our everyday lives. And also remember to be yourself! My acting coach and mentor Beatrice King really helped me prepare for roles. She taught me to make sure I am working from a place of joy and continues to inspire me. I also train year round by attending acting classes and private coaching, which I think is definitely an asset in growing your craft and confidence.
You also have a passion for music! How did this interest come about, and how long have you been singing and playing the guitar?
Singing really was always a part of my life but I formally started taking lessons about 4 years ago. I love singing, it’s such a beautiful form of expression. When I am having trouble expressing something through words I can turn to a song to help me release. I started playing the guitar during quarantine. I had played the ukulele for a few years and wanted to try something new and ended up loving it.
You performed “You and Me and Christmas” with LeAnn (Rimes) in your holiday film. You even joined LeAnn for a live performance that December! Tell us about that experience, what do you remember from that concert?
It was amazing. It was my first time singing live at a concert. The movie means so much to me so getting to share that experience with LeAnn on stage was wonderful. I remember being quite nervous, but LeAnn gave me some advice before going on stage. Singing live on the stage was truly magical, I will never forget the adrenaline and pure joy it was. I am really grateful to have that experience, especially with LeAnn.
As a poetry writer, are you writing your own music? If so, what can you share about your lyrics and what has inspired you?
I do love writing poetry, it’s such a beautiful form of expression. I have dabbled in songwriting but never have gone too deep into it. It’s definitely something I want to explore further.
We know Queen is your favourite band, but who are some other artists we can find on your playlist?
Yes! I love Queen, I grew up listening to a lot of 80s music so I think that’s one of the reasons I love Queen. I mean - Freddie Mercury is pretty awesome. On my playlist you will find artists such as Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles and other 70s or 80s artists such as Abba, Billy Joel, Elton John, etc.
Tumblr media
Your family has a wonderful pup, Finn, adopted from Fur Angels. What are some activities you enjoy doing with him? How would you encourage people to ‘adopt not shop’?
Finn loves swimming so often in the summer I love taking him to lakes to swim or in winter when it snows I love throwing snowballs for him. Like most dogs he loves belly rubs, walks or playing fetch. I always encourage people to look into adopting. There are lots of dogs who need forever homes and love. Lots of dogs in shelters who don’t get adopted sadly don’t end up making it. Finn is a rescue pup and I am really happy we were able to be his forever home.
What are some of your favourite places to visit or eat at in Vancouver?
Some favourite places to eat in Vancouver (which has been mostly take-out this past year and a half) are Agra Tandoori, Ragazzi Pizza, Neverland Tea Salon, Big Star Sandwich, or Casa Gelato! Highly recommend those places. I love to visit Lynn Valley for a nice hike. Downtown Vancouver is always fun. I also love Deep Cove and Granville Island.
Our signature question – if you could be any ice cream flavour, which would you be and why?
Love this question! If I could be any ice cream flavour it would be Raspberry Cheesecake. It’s one of my fav ice creams. It’s sweet with a tiny bit of tartness and combines the richness and softness of cream cheese, the sweetness of a raspberry, the nutty flavour and gritty texture of graham crackers to make a lovely combination that is both complicated, intriguing and delicious at the same time.
Thank you to Eden for taking the time to answer our questions about your projects and passions! Be sure to follow Eden on Twitter and Instagram for updates on her life and blossoming career!
Family Law airs Fridays at 9 PM on Global TV.

How often do you clean your room? I just pick up as needed as I go to keep it clean. However, it really doesn’t require a whole lot considering I spend majority of my time in bed. The most that typically happens is medical supply boxes sometimes build up that just need to be gathered and taken out.
Does Mommy still do your laundry? She actually does thank you very much, but due to my disability I require help with some things and that’s one of those things.
Any movies coming out soon that you want to see? More Marvel movies for sure.
Have you ever heard of Dana Carvey? Yeah.
How often do you say 'rad'? Not often at all.
Do you like beer? Nope. Or any alcohol.
Do you sip your shots or down ‘em all at once? Back when I used to drink I could never down ‘em all at once. I could do like half, stop, and then finish the other half.
Have you ever counted your scars? I’ve attempted to before, but there’s too many and I can’t see all of them.
^What was the grand total? I just know it’s a lot.
What's the best thing about waking up early? The only good thing is if someone is handing me a Starbucks and bringing my favorite breakfast food, ha.
What was the last fear you overcame? I don’t know.
Do you drink tea? Not often. I’ve been wanting to start drinking Chamomile tea before bed, but I haven’t so far.
Cappuccino or Frappuccino? Cappuccino. Thirteen year old me would have been alllll over that frappuccino.
Have you ever hurt yourself trying to crack a body part? Nooo. I’m always afraid of seeing someone get hurt when they crack their neck.
Any songs you can listen to over and over and never get tired of? There’s a lot of songs like that.
What do you think "one-eyed trouser snake" is a metaphor for? I know what it is.
Who gives you tummyflies? No one, just anxiety.
What bands do you consider "metal"? I don’t listen to metal.
What's the worst part about winter? Nothing, I love winter.
Summer? Ugh, the miserable heat.
Spring? The worst is that it means summer is right around the corner and it starts getting warm here in spring.
Fall? Nothing, I love fall.
Are you allergic to anything? Tangerines and seasonal allergies.
How many times have you changed a diaper in your life? A few. Ew.
Ever feel like someone's watching you? No.
What color is the carpet in your house? Tan.
Do you watch Headbanger's Ball on MTV? No. I don’t think that’s still a thing.
How big is your tv anyway? The one in my room is a 40 something inch.
Do your lips get chapped easily? Yes.
Have you ever had a sinus infection? Yeah. It’s been quite a long time since I’ve had one, thankfully.
What's the best part about Halloween in your opinion? It’s spooky season.
Which country has the most fascinating culture? Each country has it’s own fascinating foods and cultural traditions or holidays that I enjoy learning about. <<<
Who does your favorite song? I have numerous favorite songs.
When was the last time you wore makeup? It’s been like 4 years.
Do you prefer males or females or both? I’m attracted to males.
Where in your town do you do when you wanna chill with a few friends? I don’t have friends or go anywhere anymore, but back in the day the common places were the mall, coffee shops, and getting food.
Where's the best place to get coffee? I just go to the Starbucks. I like it. *shrug*
McDonald's Frappe is crappe, yes? I don’t think I’ve tried their frappes.
Have you ever seen someone struggle with an addiction? Several people.
Global warming: real or fake? It’s real.
Who do you look up to? My mom.
When was the last time someone gave you flowers? My birthday a few years ago.
Have you ever made a survey? I made one many, many, many years ago.
Do you like cranberry juice? Blech, no.
Have you taken/are you taking chemistry? I took it my senior year in high school.
When was the last time you brushed your hair? Yesterday.
Do you type the "correct" way or have you developed your own method? I like to use proper grammar for the most part. Sometimes when I’m really rambling and venting I just go on and on and punctuation goes out the window.
Recommend a kickass song. I don’t feel like thinking.
Do you have a favorite author? If yes, who is it? If no, why not? I have many.
Where's your favorite place to buy books? For the past few years I’ve been using the Kindle Unlimited app on my phone for books.
What was the last creepy movie you watched? Hm. I don’t remember.
Do you play any zombie-killing video games? No.
What is the dominating genre on your mp3 player / iPod? I use Spotify on my phone for music, but anyway I don’t feel like checking. I like a lot of variety.

Have you ever heard of Chimaira? Doesn’t ring a bell.
Do you enjoy classic rock? Yeah, some.
Where did you get the underwear you're wearing? Probably JCP.

Would you rather be a ninja or a pirate? Neither.
Robot or dinosaur? Nether.
Have you ever been on iGod? I don’t know what that is.
Do you listen to Type O Negative? No.
Do you have any fillings or cavities? Yeah.
Have you gotten your wisdom teeth taken out yet? Yeah, a long time ago.
Don't you hate it when surveys end abruptly? It’s whatever. On to the next.

I was tagged by the friendly @wvnjo. Thanks for sharing this game. I enjoyed to learn more about you: it’s totally ok to be reminded that the real you is as likeable than the online you.
rules: answer the questions and tag people you’d like to get to know better
When is your birthday? 27th july
Where do you live? In France. Somewhere in the french alps, in a place surrounded by mountains (they circle us).
Three things you are doing right now: trying to motivate myself to quit Tumblr and go either to sleep or to read, adding layers because it snowed today and i’m very cold despite my heating system, browsing the online bookshops and crying over the cost of a basic edition of Shakespeare’s comedies (i know its a boxset of two thick volumes but still his work is in the public domain since 400 years (!), it shouldn’t cost an arm (!) :(
Four fandoms that have piqued your interest: My fandoms online are mostly tv shows. I was crazy about Hannibal when it was on air and during few years after. I had no talent and thus no creation to share but i was active in supporting the fans artists by buying their work.
I felt again the same level of “obsession” this year for Twin peaks after revisiting the old and new seasons.
But most of time i’m satisfied with browsing the still active forums/tags once a while, and sometimes interacting with fans for discussing plot and characters. I’m currently more or less rewatching few old americans shows from the 90′s like btvs and the X Files and rediscovering why i used to be crazy about them.
How has the pandemic been treating you? It didn’t change much my habits. I was already an introvert who avoided as much as possible going out, it gives more reason to stay in. But it also forced me to reconsider the futur (i want to work from home now which is not really practical in my field).
A song you can’t stop listening to right now: I’m listening on a loop a Tuareg song called Tatrit (i’m a fan of world music).
Recommend a movie: Since there are so many options, it’s hard to not answer by a question: for what kind of mood or occasion? My Neighbor Totoro by Hayao Miyazaki will always be my favourite.
How old are you? Nobody cares, not even me.
school, university, occupation, other: i was in  my career change project until this year and i  completed last july my degree in social work. Now i need to work.
Do you prefer heat or cold? I’m born to thrive only in cold, winter and rain. I suffer so much from global warming.
Name one fact others may not know about you: I have already chosen the place where i want to die (die and be buried)  and it’s freeing. It brings me a great peace of mind, a strong feeling of serenity to know that every thing will come to an end, and there’s a  right time and right place for it (sorry for the dark thoughts).
Are you shy?  Not shy but completely an introvert so social distancing is my natural mode of communication.
Pronouns: she/her
Biggest pet peeves: People who talk loudly on the phone make me want to leave the room.
What’s your favourite “dere” type? I had to Google this one to confim my idea that dere could be related to the word tsundere, which was used to describe a type of character in the manga/anime world when i used to read manga and watched anime. But it’s been so long since i watched an anime, i don’t know enough the other current types to make comparisons and pick one.
Rate your life from 1 to 10 (1 being crappy and 10 being the best it could be): 1  definitively. I would change everything if i cared enough.
What’s your main blog? I have only this blog.  It’s not a project, there’s no concept at the heart. It’s just a fantasy place where i escape real life and sometimes others social networks like twitter.
List your sideblogs and what theyre used for: I don’t have a sideblog.
Is there something people need to know about you before becoming friends? The appearances show only the tip of the iceberg. There’s a complete different world underneath but it takes patience to reach it. Also it’s not for everyone.
Tagging everyone who see this and wants to do it.

Summer Anime 2018 Part 1: Nurupo
I feel bad for calling last season weak now, since that turned out okay, what with Megalobox, Hinamatsuri and Rokuhoudou (the best show you didn’t watch). Maybe this is a lesson to not be so negative, but all the positivity in the world can’t make this season look good. To balance it out, I’ll be bringing along some hot opinions from people getting paid to see the bright side this time.
P.S. Part 2 is here.
Island
Tumblr media
What: A very Frontwing version of When They Cry, apparently. Awesome McCooldude wakes up on an island full of pliant girls and/or dark secrets.
✅  looks alright
❌ story is tryhard mystery nonsense based on convenient amnesia, very unlikely to deliver
❌❌ an absolutely terrible cast of generic VN characters, enjoy your common route hijinks with them
❌❌ Frontwing being Frontwing, please see picture.
ANN sez: “This episode accomplishes the two things that it absolutely must for the series to have a chance of succeeding: it makes the main trio of girls endearing enough and layers on some intriguing mysteries.”
Hanebad!
Tumblr media
What: Some girls take badminton very seriously. Somewhere between genocide and extinction level event seriously.
✅  well animated and directed
✅  there appears to be more to the characters than nothing at all, so the overbearing presence of the drama llama might actually pay off
❌ has a tendency to wallow in ostentatious KyoAni-style presentational kitsch
❌ speaking of which, making the cast of Euphonium look like a bunch of carefree slackers by comparison is not a good thing
ANN sez: “From the lush colors of their school's flowers to the alienating saturation and long shots of their gym hallways, every mood HANEBADO strives for is captured perfectly through its visual storytelling, and solidified through fundamentally sturdy dialogue and plotting.”
Senjuushi
Tumblr media
What: Touken Ranbu with firearms.
❌ This is a cute boys doing cute things anime set against a backdrop of global thermonuclear war and combining the ultra seriousness of ufotable TR with the slice of life tone of Doga Kobo TR makes for a very, let’s say, “uneven” experience.
❌  Unsurprisingly, it has the production values of neither of the above and looks like crap instead.
❌❌ The localized title is “The Thousand Musketeers” and given the reckless pace in which it introduces pointless characters, it might actually hit that number in 12 episodes.
❌❌ Mobile game character designs must be stopped, for fuck’s sake
ANN sez: “The story itself has some promise, especially if you're a fan of antique guns.“
Shichisei no Subaru
Tumblr media
What: VRMMO light novel garbage about MMO newtypes.
❌ High tier light novel tropes like “u die in the game u die 4 real”, grade schooler magical girlfriends and demigod abilities
❌ Yes, the characters start as grade schoolers and then there’s a timeskip where they become high schoolers. They don’t change at all, which is either cutting commentary on arrested development or an indication of how good this show’s writing is.
❌ Ideas like permadeath in an MMO and giving good players a stake in the game company are hilariously stupid even by this genre’s standards.
❌ You’ve seen this exact cast of characters before, likely in better shows.
❌❌ There’s really no single egregiously bad aspect, but the stank of mediocrity is so overwhelming as to deserve a double minus all of its own.
ANN sez: “This episode banks heavily on the appeal of its mysteries, but those mysteries actually are pretty appealing, and I ultimately respect this episode's choice to introduce so much of its world and characters before getting to the real conceit.”
Banana Fish
Tumblr media
What: A well regarded classic manga about New York’s seedy gang underbelly of drugs and violence. And BL.
✅ ✅   Looks good. Like actually, legitimately good. Animation, character design, directing, this show is quality.
❌ Updating the setting to contemporary times seems like a not so great idea since everything about this is deeply steeped in the mid-80s gang violence and drugs panic, no matter how many smartphones get used.
♎ The pacing is ultra fast. While I will admit that I’ll take that over a snoozefest (especially in a seasonal rundown), if this wants to be a legitimate high tier anime it needs to let the atmosphere breathe more. 24 episodes isn’t much for a 19-volume manga.
❌ I’ve praised MAPPA for promising first episodes before, and then I got the likes of Yuri on Ice and Virgin Soul out of it. This is not an anime original so it will be harder to fuck up, but life finds a way - especially given the need for condensing the story as noted above.
❌ Ultimately, just being a classy production with proven writing isn’t the be-all-end-all; quality aside, I still have to like what it does, and I’m not sure what amounts to a homoerotic 80s crime B-thriller is exactly in my wheelhouse.
✅ What else are you gonna watch this season?
ANN sez: “The one negative I can foresee is that one character is portrayed as a fairly stereotypical gay sexual predator, and this story pitches itself consistently as a seedier exploration of its boys' love subject matter, so it's reasonable to expect these kinds of details going forward.”
Yume Oukoku to Nemureru 100-nin no Ouji-sama
Tumblr media
What: Girls get their wish-fulfilment isekai nonsense too, it’s just a pretty pointless definition when you can just say “basic otome harem” instead. But sure, nondescript girl wakes up in fantasy dream universe where she has a magical trait that makes a large number of princes desire her. Call it what you like.
♎ Successfully avoids the most obnoxious otome harem and isekai tropes, but that just makes it even more bland
❌ lots of exposition about an universe that is hardly complicated and transparently an excuse anyway
❌ Main character is agreeable but exceptionally boring
❌ The princes are all generically princely and very little else
❌❌ combine that with sluggish pacing and this might be the most boring show so far, which is not an easy feat
ANN sez: “There were also some neat details here and there that I particularly appreciated, like the fact that our heroine is actually a working adult, as well as the idea that rather than being “trapped in a new world” she's in truth been returned to her home.”
Back Street Girls
Tumblr media
What: A trio of yakuza thugs get a forced sex change because their boss wants to be an idol producer. It’s funny, laugh.
❌ This is not the warm, fuzzy trans acceptance anime you’ve been looking for, to put it mildly. I am not easily offended, but it would have to be pretty darn good to outrun this premise. Yeah, about that...
❌❌ runs its one joke (idols are not supposed to be thugs, like, at all!) into the ground before it exceeds a 3-minute short runtime; is actually 24 minutes long anyway. Hope you really like that joke.
❌❌ the execution of said joke is the pits of anime comedy, nothing but reaction faces and shouting
❌❌ production values are basically non-existent, at most you can say that they took the time to color in those manga panels
❌ learning that Chiaki Kon is directing this pile is just sad, put THAT in your auteur pipe and smoke it.
ANN sez: Nothing, since western licensors mysteriously chose to skip this one. Really a shame because I was looking forward to the outrage.
Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu
Tumblr media
What: It has “Isekai” and “Maou” in the title so what do you fucking think. What it doesn’t tell you is that it’s also about an MMO, for the full LN shitter nuclear triad.
❌❌ It’s about a loser otaku who gets trapped in his MMO wherein he has the mostest hax, complete with complementary slave pettan catgirl and slave oppai elf
❌❌ This is meant to be funny because he’s too much of a dweeb to put his penis where his mouth is.
❌ Technically better executed than Death March or Isekai Smartphone, so it gets one single minus for effort.
ANN sez: “The idea that Takuma is so insecure about talking to other people that he can only comfortably speak in the voice of his demon lord character is ingenious in a dramatic sense and endearing in a personal one, while Takuma's clear understanding of his personal failings makes him far more sympathetic than the genre's usual snarky protagonists.”
Satsuriku no Tenshi
Tumblr media
What: Early teen girl checks herself into Silent Hill General Hospital for grief counselling.
✅  Atmosphere works reasonably well; it’s creepy where it needs to be, which is everywhere and all the time.
❌ The girl is a nonfactor blob and the tough guy she gets paired up with is an annoying chuuni edgelord (it is called 𝔄𝔫𝔤𝔢𝔩𝔰 𝔬𝔣 𝔇𝔢𝔞𝔱𝔥 after all), which is not promising for the long run
❌ So obviously based on a run-of-the-mill spoopy RPGmaker freeware game you can practically see the floor tiles.
❌❌ 24 solid minutes of Getting Cornered By A Rape Metaphor quickly goes from unsettling to incredibly tedious.
❌❌ There’s really nowhere for this to go, given how unoriginal everything is; at best it’s going to be “it was all a dream”, at worst “everyone was dead all along, please feel sad now”.
ANN sez: “The design of the facility is one of those fanciful every-level-is-a-different-setting worlds, but the artistic effort strongly pushes the creepiness factor with a design aesthetic that suggests age, decay, and neglect.“
Harukana Receive
Tumblr media
What: Girls play beach volleyball in scenic Okinawa, some light sports drama seems to be on the horizon.
✅  Looks just good enough
✅  Girls are just cute and likeable enough
❌ the sports aspect is weak; maybe I’m just spoiled on Emiya-san’s incredible beach volleyball scene right now, but even when not compared to a top tier studio ostentatiously flaunting the budget of their fucking cooking short the match here isn’t very compelling.
♎ where Hanebad has a bad case of the cereals, this may have the opposite problem of being too cotton candy to be worth it
✅  “good enough” is not a ringing endorsement, but counts for something when being just okay will net you a third or possibly second place of the season.
ANN sez: “This is, of course, all just conjecture right now. ”
Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro
Tumblr media
What: We took Nichijou and replaced the surrealism with video game references and the production values with donkey dung. Let’s see if delta notices!
❌❌ Production values are not optional when you want to be Nichijou; it being astoundingly over the top and imbued with impeccable timing is a (or even the) main part of Nichijou’s appeal. Without them you’re left with basic reactionface manzai over awkward situations, the king of comedy.
❌❌ Suffice it to say, this show is 100% trying to be funny, while also 100% not succeeding at being funny.
❌Asscreed is a more original tentpole to rotate your first episode around than the usual Dragon Quest, but not by much.
♎ neurotic nerd main character that is little more than a bundle of social anxieties will be #relatable to anime professionals, observe:
ANN sez: “Chio's overthinking in this situation is both hilarious and painfully true-to-life, with her furious strategizing coming across as both absurd and very familiar to anyone who's not comfortable in conversation.”
Planet With
Tumblr media
Wat: Appears to be a tokusatsu/crypto-mecha show aimed at the younger set, with the gimmick being that our protagonist is (initially?) on the side of the villains(?).
✅  Pretty wacky, actually. It definitely doesn’t neatly fit in your square notions of what an anime is, man (unless you’ve watched FLCL).
❌ It seems very uncertain whether the wackiness is in service of anything. It might be To Be Heroine, or it might just be Heybot with fewer fart jokes.
♎ Furthermore, it wants to be intriguing and sort of is, but merely being intriguing is not that hard - you just make no sense and hope for the best. This has the not making sense part down, do you feel lucky?
❌ tries to build up characters by immediately going for the sad flashbacks, which I never like, especially if the rest of the show is eIDLIVE-level nonsense.
❌ Looks mostly fiiiiiine, but is also full of subpar CG
ANN sez: “So if the heroes are fighting against someone who just wants peace, then what does that make them? And more importantly, if they find out that the bears aren't evil, will they stop?”
Hataraku Saibou
Tumblr media
What: A cutesy educational comedy about the workings of a human body.
✅  Well made, characters are cute, topic is interesting.
❌ Educational aspect can get in the way; I’m not suddenly giving heavy exposition a pass just because it’s trying to teach me something, especially if it’s things I basically already know.
♎ Will have to show if it can keep coming up with good scenarios. The lung infection in episode 1 was alright and so will probably be the skin cut in the preview, but beyond that I’m not sure what’s left for red and white blood cells to do. I’m not expecting a show with this tone to tackle things like retroviruses, if you know what I mean.
♎ An actual storyline seems like too much to expect, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but not a positive either.
✅  Doesn’t rock my socks off but is an easily watchable show with a fine idea and high production values, which again is hard to say no to right now.
ANN sez: “But since it culminates in one of my favorite scenes from the manga, visualizing sneezing as shooting a torpedo out your nose, I can forgive the random gendering of cells.”
Ongaku Shoujo
Tumblr media
What: DEEN are getting in on the idol mobile game anime biz too.
✅  The main character’s gimmick is that apart from being A Honk, she can’t sing for shit; this is moderately funny.
❌ It might have counted for more if that hadn’t come out seconds before the episode ended. Even if it isn’t a momentous twist, it was more of a point of interest than the incredibly bland leadup to it had.
❌  Yeah, “Ongaku Shoujo” is an entirely indicative name of how generic this show is: Music + girls, indeed. I assume “Idols” was taken.
❌ I’m still not sure what the ideal cast size of a show like this is, but 12 idols is Idolmaster turf and as such too many. They have personalities? I think?
❌ a very small handful of cuts aside, woeful production quality; I know picking on DEEN is 2ez but this is not their finest work. Animation snobs can feel proud that there’s no CG dancing here, for the rest of us it’s an object lesson on why CG is the lesser of two evils.
✅  Tumbling SR cards in the ED (which is probably actually the OP) made me laugh; this show can’t even afford URs.
❌❌ Overall, just another idol show. Large cast plus presence of a P-san marks it as Im@s-type – but if you're in the market for an Idolmaster clone with bad looks, I would recommend Wake Up Girls instead because that’s at least pretty real at points.
ANN sez: They’re out for the weekend, ask again later. I suspect it’s nothing funny.

Ghent, Belgium
Hallo again ladies, men, and my nonbinary friends (thank you Jenna Marbles for giving me my introduction sentence), today I will be writing about another city Belgium. I have chosen Ghent Belgium. It is a university town and cultural hub. Its known for medieval architecture such as 12th-century Gravensteen castle and the Graslei.
The best time to visit Ghent is the summer. The weather during this time comfortable, the temperature stay in the 70s, and the trees are still green. Overall the weather throughout the year can be described as chilly and damp. Spring and fall tend to have fewer tourists and cooler temperatures. In the winter, temperatures drop to near freezing levels, which in turn keeps many visitors away.
Autumn (September-October)
During fall temperatures begin to fall into the 50s, driving away tourist throngs. If you pack accordingly this could be the perfect season to see the city. Plus, hotel prices tend to be lower after especially after summer.
October and November are the rainiest times of the year so you will definitely need an umbrella and even a rain jacket. Make sure to pack lots of warm clothes and to bundle up. October’s temperatures range from 54ºF (12ºC) during the day to 42ºF (6ºC) at night so dress warmly
Winter (November-February)
It's extremely cold and wet this time of year with average lows just above freezing and average highs in the mid-40s. You're sure to find some nice hotel deals, but you'll need to make sure that you bring a thick winter coat so you do not freeze.
Make sure to wear comfortable boots, a winter jacket, gloves, fluffy scarves, and wool socks. The key to surviving the winter is wearing layers to keep yourself warm. Temperatures range from 43ºF (6ºC) during the day to 32ºF (0ºC) at night.
Spring (March-May)
The city begins to thaw in April and May, and you begin to see more tourists during this time but not as much as it would be in the summer. Travelers this time of year may even be able to score a deal on their accommodations.
March is the driest month of the year, but it still rains about 8 days of the month so bringing an umbrella is still a good idea. Wear a jacket suitable for temperatures averaging from 48ºF (9ºC) during the day to 37ºF (3ºC) at night
Summer (June-August)
Ghent experiences its warmest weather between June and August. This comfortable weather usher in popular festivals and droves of travelers.
June is the sunniest time of the year in while August is the hottest, but it’s still fairly cool at an average of 68ºF (20ºC) during the day to 54ºF (12ºC) at night. Jeans and a long-sleeve shirt should be suitable for daytime, but for nighttime, pack a light jacket. There are tons of mosquitoes in the summer so bring mosquito repellent.
Ghent has various establishments to eat at. Consider visiting:
Volta is a cool restaurant housed in a vast converted turbine hall. The kitchen is run by a young chef, Olly Ceulenaere, who prepares a fabulous seven-course tasting €59 menu in the evening, with dishes such as crunchy white cabbage topped with smoked eel and parsley root.
JEF is a casual, minimalist diner. It's what the chef calls "real food", hearty portions of slow-cooked veal and belly of pork and oven-braised cod with shellfish and pumpkin.
Yuzu is a boutique showcasing the creations of local chocolatier Nicolas Vanaise. He makes his zen chocolates each morning in his own home. his chocolate truffles resemble calligraphy artworks, mixing strange combinations of flavors and textures, such as lemon and coffee.
Gruut is a renovated old industrial building that was changed into a bar and restaurant. The menu features hearty local favorites such as waterzooi, a tasty chicken stew, or stoverij, tender beef braised in beer.
Temmerman is the town's, favorite old-fashioned sweetshop. The shelves are lined with tempting jars of sticky toffees, fruit gums and liquorice, but what makes Temmerman so famous is its speculoos gingerbread and an array of eccentric candies – such as mammelokkers (breast lickers), or cuberdons, distinctive "red nose" raspberry jellies.
Table manners include:
To beckon a waiter or waitress raise your hand and make eye contact.
Keep your hands on the table at all times during a meal -- not in your lap. However, keep your elbows off the table.
Belgians are thrifty and do not appreciate waste. Finish all the food on your plate.
Knife and fork are placed side by side on the dinner plate at the 5:25 position when you are finished eating.
Service charges and value-added taxes are included in most bills (usually 15 percent), so tipping is not expected or necessary.
Things you might need to know if you visit Belgium:
In case of an emergency, call either 112 (the general European emergency number) or, even easier to remember, 100 (the Belgian number)
The European health insurance card will make sure you receive the same level of healthcare as the residents of that country. The card is individual so every member of your traveling family will need one. The EHIC is free of charge
You can easily get by with English. Belgians appreciate your effort to speak their language, but almost all the population speaks fairly good English
Belgium is a very safe and peaceful country ranking high in the global peace index. As a traveler, you shouldn’t find much trouble while traveling in Belgium, although, there’s been reported quite a few pickpocketing in the most touristy areas. With a few simple precautions, you should be fine.
You can use Debit cards almost everywhere in Belgium (mostly Visa and MasterCard), but credit cards aren’t as widely accepted. The smaller the retailer the higher the probability he won’t accept credit cards and/or even charge 5% for using it.
Tipping isn’t mandatory and you are not expected to always tip in restaurants. You should tip only if you want to reward a good service
Ghent is filled with such a diverse culture and has an abundance of attractions and places to visit. Consider visiting:
The belfry of Ghent is one of the three main towers in the historic heart of the city. Rising almost 300 feet (91 meters) to the sky, this tall structure is attached to the cloth hall, a former major marketplace. The belfry indicated the independent status of this once-powerful city; its bells used to warn against approaching danger or to announce celebrations.
St. Bavo’s Cathedral, was where the young Charles V was baptized. This massive cathedral is adorned with a large number of fabulous paintings, including what could be regarded as the greatest painting in all of Belgium—the “Adoration of the Mystic Lamb” by Jan van Eyck.
Graslei and Korenlei are some of the most gorgeous medieval waterfronts in Europe. The Graslei is the most spectacular of the two—best seen from the Korenlei—and consists of a row of magnificent guildhalls. This was actually Ghent’s very first harbor; nowadays, it’s a hugely popular place to hang out for locals and tourists alike.
Gravensteen Castle houses a superb medieval museum. The central keep can be climbed for rather extraordinary views over the city.
St Michael's Bridge, where you'll get a 360-degree perspective of the town's main attractions. These include the Old Fish Market, Castle of the Counts, and "Three Tower Row," all of which you can see in a panoramic cityscape
Overall:
Ghent seems to be an interesting location with lots of possible entertainment options. I hope this will be one of the locations that I will travel to over the summer.

Indoor Plants
Add a drain hole about an inch from the container's bottom to cycle your nutrient solution through while keeping a minimum level of solution available to the plants at all times. Look for a humidifier with a humidity gauge on it, allowing you to set the unit to maintain a specific humidity level of your choosing. Some lights are quite inexpensive while others can set a person back quite a bit. In fact, we can face heat problems as well. For more information about indoor plants go to the bloomspace website today.
Tumblr media
Be sure, though, if you do try it, that you use a plant you can trust not to have been sprayed with pesticides. House plants should also be repotted when they threaten to tip over (put these into clay pots or use a heavy potting mix). This houseplant is one of the easiest house plants to care for. Tap water comes packed with chlorine which evaporates while the water sits and makes it better for your plants. A green building helps in collecting and purifying the water.
Indoor Plants
With a little time and a minimal investment, you can expand your gardening hobby, grow more plants, and give your green thumb a workout during cooler months! I may see if I can find cilantro. Do not hesitate to change the location of your plants from time to time until you find the perfect spot for them. You almost cannot go wrong in your choice of plants! Styrofoams are non-toxic to plants. They are slow-growing and look particularly good when grouped together. One of the main reasons for this is that they don’t require much fertiliser, meaning all you need is water and someone to look at them once in a while. And they add so much colour to life. It is important to add ingredients that will promote good air circulation, water drainage, and nutrients. If you lay cuttings down horizontally, they will shoot from a number buds. Will it root in temperature about 22C (71 degrees F)? It is built with ninety degrees jewel high quality glass optics with double 15W UV-B tubes to improve development when the plant reaches its flowering section. It should be noted, however, that any plant that is grown from these seeds is not guaranteed to produce high levels of CBD, as it takes many years to create a seed line that produces consistent results.
Tumblr media
Grown houseplant, the gardenia is subject to most sickness and pest insects or mites that disturb this type of plant. When Dracaena marginata grows too tall, simply cut off the plant one foot or so below the leaves. Keep the leaves clean with regular wiping with a soaked ball of cotton to keep dust off their pores. I was planning on planting in our garden like vegetables and herbs the fact that these plants are useful. The fact that it is one of the easiest to grow of all houseplants makes it all the more appealing. With the consequences of global warming growing ever more obvious, our influence on the climate and, in turn, the planet, is more of an importance than ever. That means they won't generate any more blossoms. Dracaena marginata removes benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, and toluene from the air. Unknown to us, our homes, especially if they are older constructions, harbor several toxins in the air such as benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene. Indoor plants get rid of these toxins and make our houses healthier places to live in. Sunlight is enough to make them grow. Though each of the five houseplants tested — bromeliad, dracaena, spider plant, jade plant, and Caribbean tree cactus — was effective at transmuting at least some of the VOCs, the overall winner in terms of VOC-scrubbing capacity was the bromeliad. To learn how to look after indoor plants follow the link.
Tumblr media
You don’t need to have a large garden to be sustainable and recycle your food and other scraps. Garden Planters source unusual outdoor and indoor planters, and other garden related gifts - whatever your taste, be it traditional, modern or just a bit quirky, we will have something for you. Whether you grow Bromeliads indoors or outdoors, you will be rewarded by beautiful flowers. Special material is used for the manufacturing of such strong flowers. I have plenty of new growth, no flowers since I got it about 3 months ago. I have an abundance of succulent tomatoes every year. Garlic is good in containers and mid Oct onward is the time to grow all the way to April. You can purchase it nearly any time of year, and with some care, it can bloom over and over. By growing them indoors, the season for such tender annuals as basil and summer savory can be extended and, of course, they are always within easy reach whenever they are needed.
Indoor Gardening - Fake Plants Don't Count
Sunlight is important for plants as they put it on for photosynthesis to produce food. Hence, all plants require some amount of sunlight and there are no plants that may grow without sunlight. However, you can find definitely plants which need less sunlight in comparison with others. And, fundamental essentials plants that only flourish beautifully indoors. Also, some indoor plants cannot stand direct sunlight.
Tumblr media
The psychological benefits they offer far outweigh the cost of maintaining them. In fact, every avid gardener recognizes that maintaining plants, especially flowering ones, can be a stress-free endeavor that lets him as the time away. For him, it is more an interest than the usual stressful effort. Plants within the home are spared from any extreme weather conditions unlike those outside, either in a garden or perhaps the entry. It is therefore preferable that artificial plants for your outdoors supply rather than real ones for these are more effective at withstanding the weather as well as other environmental hazards.
Plants need nutrients. It is just so easy. How do you allow them to have the nutrients they require? First, water you provide them with will contain some nutrients. Providing an excellent balanced soil is also the main equation. It should have good organic material inside the roots are able to use. Fertilizer is the one other area of the puzzle. For indoor plants, there are no natural sources of nutrients. Therefore, you simply must provide a nutritional fertilizer solution often. It will give your plants what they need whilst them healthy. Add good air flow from Dayton blowers and your plants will thrive.
Tumblr media
Orchids always apparently prosper in a very draughty spot within my kitchen nevertheless they need to avoid strong sunlight. Ventilate the space during Winter and keep compost moist. You can stand plants like Cymbidium outside in the Summer. Ficus plants will even flourish but don't let the compost dry out and Kentia Palms survive well in hallways where light can be a challenge.
It's almost unbelievable to believe that other pursuits like corn, sugar, tea, and wheat can be grown using this method, but it's possible. They are not usually grown to maturity inside a hydroponic garden, however are taken out of the water and planted within the soil once the tiny plans are large enough to be transplanted. Even trees could be grown with hydroponics , including banana trees and lemon trees. They may be dwarfs if they are grown in the hydroponic garden, but it is possible. Other fruits that might be successfully grown are watermelon, grapes, and berries, including blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

I know they didn’t show it but assuming they’ve all met at least once, or worked on a consult together, or even just going off of what Lauren has told her, what do you think Leyla thinks about the other doctors and staff? In my mind she probably thought Lauren was exaggerating about Max but after that yes day he had earlier this season she realized Lauren was actually downplaying his actions.
max: earnest and well meaning but extremely naïve. she appreciates his commitment to making change for the better though and from how lauren lamented possibly quitting if the medical director after max returns things to the way they were before his leadership, his efforts have not all been in vain. also she's a little thankful he doesn't burst into the ED too often because she was already exhausted just listening to his welcome speech at orientation. HOW one man can fit so many words in one breath, she has no idea. also leyla definitely realizes that lauren downplayed how chaotic max is but that’s because she’s just as chaotic and in her mind, the craziest thing he’s done is try to fix global warming instead of, oh, i don’t know, try to stop an exploding pesticide tank with his jacket.
helen: leyla had seen a couple of rerun segments of dr. helen in the coffee shops she stopped in at through out the city long before she ever stepped foot in NA so it was a little surreal meeting her in real life. lauren had always spoken about helen with the utmost respect and leyla can see why. she's only briefly worked with helen when she came down to the ED for a consult but the care she shows each patient stands out to leyla above everything else.
iggy: the first time leyla met iggy, he lit up and went in for the hug, freezing halfway there to make sure it was okay before wrapping her up in a warm embrace. she actually hasn't had a chance to work with him since he's been the psych residency director since she's worked at NA. but given his open and gentle disposition, she can understand why that chance case a couple of months ago could push him out of practicing.
floyd: extremely talented surgeon. he has an approachable charm that makes leyla a little amusedly understand why lauren was involved with him. talking with floyd about general surgery and the various techniques she saw him use in trauma 1 after his consults were part of what influenced her decision to select general surgery as an elective.
staff: skilled, hardworking, dedicated and leyla didn't expect anything else from people hand picked by lauren bloom. leyla enjoys trying to find an opportunity to work with everyone she can on the staff. though she does find it a little amusing how intimidated they are by lauren, her goofball lauren. but at the same time it's obvious that it comes from a place of respect. also, casey definitely runs the house of bloom.

How Shadow and Bone’s Jessie Mei Li Grounds the Grishaverse
https://ift.tt/3t78Uxh
If you’ve watched Shadow and Bone, then you’re probably curious about the literal sunshine at its center. Her name is Jessie Mei Li (she/they) and, though she’s a relative newcomer to the world of mainstream entertainment, that seems poised to quickly change. Between Shadow and Bone‘s current status as one of the biggest TV shows on the planet, and Li’s upcoming appearance in Edgar Wright’s psychological horror Last Night in Soho later this year, the 25-year-old British actor is surely at the start of an exciting storytelling career. We had the chance to sit down with Li prior to the release of Shadow and Bone to talk about where she’s come from and where she might be going.
“I really don’t think I’ve considered this show and the fact that people will actually watch it,” Li says, with a laugh, when I talk to her ahead of Shadow and Bone‘s April 23rd global release. “So much of what I’ve done hasn’t come out yet. So I guess the way I’ve been working is just having fun. Then I sort of just follow that, just get really immersed in it.”
Li has to be downplaying the skill and work that went into her warm and grounded performance as Alina Starkov, the orphan-cartographer at the center of Shadow and Bone’s excellent first season. It’s not easy to play a likable “Chosen One,” a character type that is often strapped with all of the angst and none of the fun of a fantasy epic, but Li makes it look like it is. She never makes the mistake of conflating fierceness with apathy, infusing Alina with an emotional intelligence and complexity that is apparent in every scene, whether it involves our protagonist light-heartedly teasing new Grisha friends or fighting for agency over her own body and power after a visceral betrayal.
“[The actors] have to infuse the character with truth and the honesty, and they have to be brave,” says Mairzee Almas, who directed Li in episodes 5 and 6 of Shadow and Bone. “Jessie has a huge part in creating this character. Yeah, it’s in a book series and, yeah, here we are, it’s in the script—all of that’s true, but she has to bring her own humanity and her own fear and her own bravery and all of those things to the character.”
When talking to Li and looking back at her career so far, it’s clear just how much the actor’s bravery and humanity, focused by a joy of acting and a love for people, has driven her path so far. It wasn’t so long ago that Li was studying languages (French and Spanish) at university, unsure of what she wanted to do with the rest of her life, but increasingly sure that it wasn’t uni life. “I always loved playing dress up and doing little scenes and puppet shows and things with my brother and friends growing up,” says Li, who grew up in Surrey to an English mother and a Chinese-born, Hong Kong-raised father, “but I never really thought of it as something that I could actually do as a job.”

Shadow and Bone’s Best Change From the Books is Mal & Alina’s Relationship
By Lacy Baugher
It’s easy to understand why Li grew up without considering acting as a viable career path. While we’re encouraged to think of acting as one of the more egalitarian professions, it exists in an unequal society that privileges certain groups of people above others—and some U.K. actors, like James McAvoy, who do not come from the kind of immense economic privilege as the Benedict Cumberbatches or Tom Hiddlestons of the world, have become increasingly vocal about the class ceiling, while British actors of color, like John Boyega, has spoken about the barriers that exist for BAME actors, even when they’ve been cast in one of the biggest film franchises in the world.
Li, who doesn’t come from an acting family nor from the elite Oxbridge world that churns out a disproportionate amount of the U.K.’s best-known actors, is also multiracial in a majority White industry. She might not have seen a clear path forward for her acting career, but she followed her passion nonetheless. After two years, Li left college before completing her degree and began working as a tutor, a waitress, and then as a teaching assistant. “During that time, I wanted to just do things that I liked doing,” says Li. “And one of those things was doing a bit of acting and then slowly over time, I was like, ‘Oh, this really makes me happy. I can really express myself doing this.’”
Li’s first foray into more formal acting training came in a summer course at the National Youth Theatre, a youth arts charity with a mission of “giving accessible opportunities both onstage and backstage to young people aged 14-25 from all corners of the U.K.” Li wasn’t intending on auditioning, but when the eldest son from a family she used to babysit for went to audition, the family encouraged Li to go along as well. While at the four-week program, Li learned about the Identity School of Acting, a part-time drama school in London “with a mission to disrupt the industry with a new, diverse generation of talent.” In addition to Li, its alums include Boyega, Letitia Wright, Sabrina’s Chance Perdomo, and Hanna’s Áine Rose Daly. For Li, the experience was as much about the relationships she made there as it was the skills honed.
“It was just so nice to meet people,” says Li. “I think that’s what really made me want to do these classes. It was to make friends who were like-minded. I’ve met some real lifelong friends through the National Youth Theater and Identity. So, yeah, it was definitely worthwhile for the relationships I made.”
Li might say the same about her experience working on Shadow and Bone, which filmed in Budapest from October 2019 to February 2020. Suzanne Smith, who did the casting for the Netflix adaptation and whose previous work includes Outlander and Good Omens, brought together a cast that is much more representative of the world than the average TV ensemble. Though the production includes veteran actors like Ben Barnes and Zoe Wanamaker, the vast majority of the series’ stars are younger newcomers, and they are delightful.
“This is a story about young people who have been overlooked and who’ve never had the chance to show people what they can do, who have all this talent and all of this power,” Shadow and Bone author Leigh Bardugo tells Den of Geek. “So it made a lot of sense in terms of the soul of the books for us to have all these incredibly gifted young people that arrived on our doorstep, like a magical gift in the show.”
It’s also a cast that seems to genuinely love and respect one another, as the many, many seratonin-inducing clips from the Shadow and Bone virtual press junket have made apparent. When speaking about what she is most looking forward to about the show’s release, Li immediately and enthusiastically shines the spotlight on her co-stars, saying: “I think everyone is amazing in this show. I can’t wait for people to fall in love with whichever character is their favorite.” (If you were wondering her favorite characters are Mal and Inej: “I think both of those characters just made me cry.”) This cast are each other’s original #1 fans, and, in an time when Hollywood is getting slightly better at discussing abuses of power on set and in executive offices, it is important to celebrate the shows that prioritize supportive and collaborative work environments as vital to the artistic process.
When I ask showrunner Eric Heisserer if it was a priority to cast good people, he says: “Absolutely. I mean, you can’t always be sure of something like that, but there are certainly flags or behavior patterns that let you know a little bit more about that. And it was vital to me in a show where you’re building long-term relationships to begin with.” Heisserer says it is especially important to cast kind people when working on a (hopefully) long-running TV series versus a feature, which is usually a one-and-done production.
“Here, this is a pretty long-term group monogamous relationship,” says Heisserer. “And I’ve seen on the sets of shows I’ve shadowed on before that one bad apple can really turn the whole place toxic. So it was a careful set of choices here and a not insignificant amount of luck. I count my stars that we found the people that we did because the alchemy here… they’re so good to each other and they’re so good in their hearts.”

Shadow and Bone: How Mysterious Criminal Kaz Brekker Steals the Show
By Rosie Fletcher
This sense of gratitude for the opportunity and experience is reflected in how Li speaks about the project: “I’m so lucky to have had the opportunities I’ve had,” she says, when asked if there has been a point at which she feels like she “made it.” “I know so many actors who are far more talented than I am, who haven’t quite had that break yet. So I do feel really, really blessed to be where I am.”
While it’s not necessary to see this kind of behavior modeled in order to embody it yourself, when Li talks about what she learned from her first “big break” project—a West End production of All About Eve starring Gillian Anderson and Lily James in which she played a small role (as Marilyn Monroe)—she doesn’t speak about the lead actors’ performances but rather their professionalism.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
“They really set the bar for how much hard work goes in,” reflects Li. “Those two and the other cast members worked so hard and must’ve been exhausted and were just really great leaders in terms of bringing everyone together and getting us all cakes and doughnuts once a week and things like that. It was lovely to see these two women at the helm of this cast and how strong they were.”
After early 2019’s All About Eve, Li’s career continued to take off. She got confirmation she had won the lead role in Shadow and Bone just before production began on Last Night in Soho. Li will play the minor role of Lara in Wright’s 1960s London-set period story about (via Deadline) “a young girl [played by Jojo Rabbit‘s Thomasin McKenzie] who is passionate about fashion design, who mysteriously enters the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer.”
“Reading the script, I was like, ‘I’ve never read anything like this,’” says Li. “And it was such a great experience because I love Edgar Wright. I think I’ve watched Hot Fuzz more than any other film ever. So it was really great to meet him and work with him and see the way his films work. Everyone works so hard and it’s really set the bar. I keep saying that, but then going to do Shadow and Bone, I was like, ‘That’s the level of professionalism I want to bring to our set on Shadow and Bone.'”
While Shadow and Bone Season 2 has yet to be officially announced, the Netflix fantasy series debuted in the streamer’s Top Ten and was met with critical and fan acclaim. We’ll likely be seeing much more of Li’s Alina in the next few years. That’s good news for us and good news for the actor, who genuinely seems to love her character and can’t wait to see what happens next: “I think I’m really excited for us to see how Alina deals with everything,” she says. “It’s kind of how I feel at the moment in terms of: we’ve got this show coming out and now people might know who I am. And I feel like that happens to Alina too.”
Shadow and Bone is now available to watch on Netflix.

The causes and impacts of the melting Himalayan glaciers
The Himalayas is a mountain range that’s home to many of the world’s highest peaks. Passing through India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Bhutan and Nepal, this incredible span of geography is an important cultural and ecological location. However, climate change threatens the area, and the impacts of the melting Himalayan glaciers could be devastating.
We explore why this mountain range is so fascinating and essential, looking especially at its many glaciers. We also explore why these glaciers are melting and what the results of the changing Himalayan climate could mean.
An introduction to the Himalayas
First, let’s take a quick look at the mountain range itself. It’s a place that has significance to many and is firmly rooted in popular culture. However, given its size and scale, it’s often not understood especially well.
What are the Himalayas?
The Himalayas are a mountain system in South and East Asia that spans around 1,550 miles (2,500 km), running west-northwest to east-southeast in an arc. This huge geographical range means that climates in the Himalayas vary between humid and subtropical in the foothills to dry desert conditions in the higher reaches.
The Himalayan region is home to over 50 million people, yet an estimated 2 billion people rely on waters from Himalayan glaciers for drinking, energy, agriculture and more. Those who live there have their own distinct cultures, and there are various places of religious significance.
The Himalayan mountain range is also a biodiversity hotspot, home to a vast range of flora and fauna, including species such as snow leopards, Bengal tigers and one-horned rhino.
Where are the Himalayas?
As we’ve mentioned, the Himalayas covers many hundreds of miles. As well as stretching across the northeast portion of India, they also pass through Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Bhutan and Nepal.
According to Britannica, the mountain range itself starts at Nanga Parbat (26,660 feet), in the Pakistani-administered portion of the Kashmir region, and ends at Namjagbarwa (Namcha Barwa) Peak (25,445 feet ), in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
How were they formed?
By mountain standards, the Himalayas are a relatively young range. They began to form around 40 to 50 million years ago when tectonic plate movement drove the landmasses of India and Eurasia together.
The pressure of the collision, and the fact that each continental landmass had about the same density, meant that the plates were thrust skyward, contorting the impact area and forming the jagged peaks of the Himalayas.
The modern Himalayas
Today, the Himalayas remain a culturally and environmentally important region. Many different people live in the Himalayas, and it’s a source of life for many of them. However, in recent years it’s also become a popular tourist destination.
Although tourism brings a range of economic and business opportunities and jobs, there are downsides. The effects on the environment, particularly with issues such as pollution, mean that the biodiversity of the area is under threat.

The Himalayan glaciers
Incredibly, there are 32,392 glaciers in the Himalayas. Together, they are part of intricate geographic and climate systems. Let’s find out more about them.
What is a glacier?
As we explore in our open step on the subject, glaciers are large bodies of ice, originally made from snow that accumulates over long periods of time. They vary greatly in size and can be as small as a football field or stretch for hundreds of kilometres.
Based on this, we can say that the definition of a glacier is a body of ice formed from the compaction of snow that moves downhill under its own weight. As you can imagine, for such a process to work, sustained low temperatures and snowfall are needed to create and maintain glaciers, meaning that they’re found either at high latitudes (the polar regions) or high altitudes (associated with mountains).
Tumblr media
This map is generated from data provided by the Randolph Glacier Inventory. You will observe that ice is either found at high latitudes – i.e. the polar regions – or high altitudes – i.e. associated with mountains. Image courtesy of the National Snow and Ice Data Center, University of Colorado, Boulder, generated using data from the Randolph Glacier Inventory, GLIMS.
Why are they important?
So why do glaciers matter? Well, they play a central role in the world’s water systems, contributing to various elements of life. Glaciers:
Provide drinking water. Approximately 75% of all of the world’s fresh water is locked up in glacier ice. Glacial melt provides drinking water for people in various places around the world, including the Himalayas.
Irrigate crops. Throughout history, countries have used melting glaciers to water their crops and power their agriculture. Even today, communities still rely on glacial melt in this way.
Generate power. It’s possible to use the meltwater from glaciers to power hydroelectric dams, providing electricity for the area.
It’s not just the immediate area that feels the impacts of glaciers. In the Himalayas, for example, the Indus, the Ganges and the Brahmaputra Rivers all originate from glaciers. These rivers provide water for countless millions of people.
The glaciers in the Himalayas
The Himalayas are home to the third-largest deposit of ice and snow in the world. Only Antarctica and the Arctic have more. These glaciers feed some of the planet’s most important river systems, directly and indirectly supplying billions of people with water, energy, and incomes.
Clearly, the Himalayan glaciers are an essential part of life for the eight surrounding countries, as well as further beyond. However, new studies have shown that the glaciers in the Himalayas are melting at an alarming rate. The consequences of this melt could be disastrous.
Why are the Himalayan glaciers melting?
The Himalayas in India and beyond have come under close attention in recent years. Several recent studies have shown that the situation could be much worse than originally feared. One study, in particular, found that if CO2 emissions are not cut drastically, around two-thirds of the Hindu Kush-Himalaya (HKH) region glaciers could disappear.
Glaciers in the Himalayas lost billions of tons of ice between 2000 and 2016, double the amount that took place between 1975 and 2000. Rising global temperatures are to blame – the result of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions.
Air pollutants from unclean energy sources are also contributing. The dirty air then deposits black carbon dust on the ice. This dust means the glaciers absorb more heat and thaw more rapidly.
You can read more about measuring glacial change in our open step and learn about climate change and society with our online course.
Tumblr media
The image above is a satellite image showing multiple retreating glaciers in the Bhutanese Himalayas. As a consequence of this retreat, proglacial lakes form in front of these glaciers.
The impacts of melting Himalayan glaciers
There are real concerns about the potential impacts of the melting glaciers in the Himalayas and beyond. Here are just some of the devastating effects of glacier loss on the surrounding regions:
Increased flooding. As more meltwater enters the water system, proglacial glacial lakes form. However, these lakes are often unstable, and when the dams break, they can cause catastrophic glacier lake outburst floods (GLOFs). Similarly, more water in the glacier-fed rivers increases the risk of flooding.
More extreme weather events. With more water and a warmer global temperature, the risk of extreme weather events increases. Scientists have already started to notice changes in temperature and precipitation extremes, for example.
Changes in the monsoon. In Asia, the monsoon helps to support the livelihoods of millions of people. The annual rains are crucial to agriculture and water supplies.  As global warming changes monsoon patterns, the risk of flooding during this season increases.
Lower agricultural yields. Global warming means that snow and glaciers melt earlier in the year, leading to floods in spring. However, by summer, when crops need more water, volumes of water are decreased. As a result, agricultural yields are lower, arid zones increase, and fishing in the region is affected.
Changes in energy production. Further downstream, the volume of water in dams may impact the production of hydroelectricity.
Ultimately, the melting Himalayan glaciers could cause real harm to the livelihoods of untold millions. Whether it’s changing weather patterns, extreme flooding, changes in food and energy production, or unpredictable water supplies, the risks seem very real.

How can we improve the situation?
So, the current and future danger of melting glaciers is evident. But what can we do to improve the situation? In reality, the only real solution is to prevent further global warming. There are many climate change solutions, and many of these focus on reducing your carbon footprint.
Although individuals can take steps to reduce emissions, governments and corporations need to make far-reaching changes to policies and practices. As we stand on the edge of a climate crisis, there is much work to be done to improve the situation.
Final thoughts
The Himalayan glaciers are crucial not only to the surrounding regions but also to the billions of people whose lives are affected by them. Recent global warming and climate change have seen these glaciers melting at an unprecedented rate, and the effects are devastating.

Ranches For Sale In Bozeman
Tumblr media
They claim that the state of Montana is the last great frontier, yet Montana is moreover, it is a remarkable area that is full of so much to do yet uses several areas that are off the ruined path. Montana not only has many advantages to those that visit on a yearly basis, but it additionally has many benefits to those that live there on an irreversible basis.
Below are some of the large benefits that living in Montana brings:
• No Sales Tax obligation: That's right; invest away if you stay in Montana due to the fact that the sales tax there is a tremendous 0%. That implies more money in your pocket and also much less that you have to provide to old Uncle Sam. Don't really feel negative though, he constantly seems to get his reasonable share.
• Summertime Tasks: Montana is house to part of the Rocky Hills ranches for sale and in the summertime time there is no better place to be. Mountain fishing, backpacking, and biking are all part of what the Rockies have to offer its citizens every year. Part of Yellowstone National Park is additionally in Montana as well as you can take pleasure in warm springs as well as more fishing when you decide to take a trip there.
• Fishing: In instance you missed it from the last number of factors, Montana is known globally for its wonderful angling. Fly fishing is especially prominent in the wonderful state and also several anglers who simply can't get enough of the remarkable catches that Montana needs to use wind up finding themselves as long-term locals before also long.
• Winter season Activates: When it gets cool out as well as the white powder begins to fall, the state of Montana transforms into one of the very best position on Planet to be for skiing. The state boasts lots of various ski hotels and some world course inclines making the state the ideal residential haven for miraculous ski enthusiast.
• Escape the Crowd: Among the best aspects of living in Montana is the reality that you can be near all the activity, yet still not be in the thick of it at all times. Due to the fact that Montana still has many smaller towns and also cities that have stayed small in population over the years, that is. However, even if they are tiny, does not mean that they are out in the boon-docks either. A lot of Montana's smaller sized communities lie simply miles outside of the bigger and also a lot more populous areas such as Invoicings. This uses the ideal situation for somebody who intends to reside in private, but still be close sufficient to enter into the fray of things when they desire to.
Montana may be the last wonderful frontier, but if you enjoy the outdoors as well as enjoy relaxing living with activity just nearby, then this state might be for you. While a visit there will certainly provide you a taste of what the state has to use, just living there Trout fishing in Montana seems as if it should essentially be a way of living. In numerous means the term 'trout fishing' as well as the state of Montana are immediately assumed of together. I don't recognize if it's due to films or what, however the state of Montana and also trout angling meshed like a hand and a handwear cover. When many individuals assume of trout angling in Montana, they automatically think of fly fishing, or flea flicking as my advisor used to refer to it. There is a heavy section of anglers that delight in waving feathers in the air in Montana, but remember: there's greater than one way to skin a cat, and also for me directly the only time I obtain anywhere near a feather is at the local duck pond. I would not 'flip a flea' if you put a weapon to my head, and also still I mange to capture a great deal of trout. That's appropriate everybody, trout angling in Montana, doesn't have to entail a fishing pole!
All I know for certain is that trout fishing in Montana is much different than the trout angling that I matured with in central Pennsylvania. Why is it so different? Is it the techniques and techniques in which the fish are captured? No, the approaches and also methods are just the same, the difference is that the trout are a lot, much larger in Montana. The quality of the trout in the excellent state of Montana differs from anything I had ever experienced.
Trout fishing in Montana is as much concerning there tranquility and also incredible views as anything. I mean it does not injure that there are a whole lot of large indigenous trout swimming in Montana's' waters. The trout fishing in Montana actually is quite excellent, and as I suggested to, this goes for spin angling. Whatever your preferred method takes place to be, Montana can most likely offer it when it involves trout angling. A popular technique (and my favorite) is to pull on a pair of waders and fish the smaller sized rivers and also streams the means God meant ... while standing in the water.
Being surrounded by the beautiful hills of Montana, while catching 15 + inch indigenous trout for hours on end, is a lots of enjoyable. A very reliable technique for doing this specific point is to utilize a set of gang hooks as well as live worms. Gang hooks are merely 2 small hooks incorporated tandem. Gang hooks are one of the most effective method to present a real-time worm, and also the trout of Montana loss victim for the technique constantly. Gang hooks actually service all bodies of water; it's simply that they appear to function specifically well in Montana waters. Ensure you check neighborhood regulations since in some location's real-time bait can not be utilized. This is an extremely idiotic regulation that all of us have flea flickers to give thanks to for. The regulation makes definitely no sense, but the reality stays that you ought to inspect your regional policies.
The various other thing to focus on while trout fishing in Montana is the climate. They say that if you don't such as the climate in Montana, wait 5 minutes and it will change. It's not quite this extreme, yet utilizing the weather to your advantage while fishing is a terrific concept. All the info that you require about the climate and also angling can be located in this COST-FREE Electronic book. Or you can do some research yourself, the selection is your own.
The lower line is that in many cases, Montana trout fishing is just as good as it obtains throughout the country, as well as the views isn't also negative either. In addition to the truth that in some components of Northwest Montana, a bear attack is never ever inconceivable. This little tidbit of details should aid keep you on your toes! Actually this would only be a possibility if you were trout fishing deep in the hills, but still you never recognize? Find out for on your own exactly how excellent the trout angling really is in the wonderful state of Montana if you obtain the possibility. will reveal you truth potential as well as all the advantages that Montana offers its citizens on an everyday basis.

Okay, he’s not actually the last person she’d want to be stranded with. Clarke does know worse people than Bellamy, both globally and in a crisis. But the deal was that she’d be with a stranger. The network gave her a list of names to confirm that she didn’t know any of her potential companions, and now here she is, face-to-face with a naked Bellamy Blake.
“Did you know?” she demands.
Bellamy crosses his arms over his chest. The crew just looks baffled, and Clarke realizes with shock that none of them knew. This is, somehow, an accident.
“How the fuck would I know?”
“Language,” says the camera operator. “Is there a problem?”
“We know each other.”
“She wasn’t on the list I got,” Bellamy adds. He’s sort of trying not to look at her body too much, but it’s difficult.
“Huh. Let me check that with the producers,” says the camera operator, and she pulls out a cell phone.
Clarke and Bellamy watch each other, Clarke doing her best to cover her breasts and Bellamy keeping his eyes fixed somewhere slightly above her forehead.
“I should have known you’d end up on a show like this,” he finally says.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
He smirks. “I’m guessing you were talking about survival shows with someone you don’t like, and they said you wouldn’t make it a week, and you signed up just to prove to them you could.”
“And I’m guessing you found out you could show off your abs and your survival skills at the same time and jumped on the chance. Honestly, I’m amazed it took you this long to get on here.”
“Well, I was in grad school for a while,” he says, grinning, and Clarke finds herself grinning back.
By the end of college, she really didn’t hate Bellamy. He wasn’t exactly her favorite person in a social context, but she knew he was smart and capable and even kind of fun. More pertinent to this particular situation, she also knows they work well together and he’s a good person in a crisis.
“You think they’ll let us do this together?” she asks him. “Even though we know each other?”
“We are already naked.” He wets his lips, looks over at the camera operator, still on the phone. “I don’t know. I hope so.”
“Yeah,” she admits. “Me too.”
*
The producers let it go. The mix-up was seasonal; Clarke was on the last episode of season seven and her partner dropped out, and the producers pulled Bellamy off the next season list when he said he was available. When they explained they went to college together and haven’t seen each other since Bellamy graduated, everyone agreed it was an error and they could just run with it.
And now she’s trapped in the wilderness with Bellamy.
“Okay, you need to get something on your boobs,” he says, as soon as they’re officially rolling.
Clarke snorts. “What about food and shelter?”
“I’m going to do better with those when your boobs aren’t right there.”
“You used to make clothes for the theater department, right? You can find stuff for clothing and a shelter and I’ll look for a good place to set up. I’d like high and close to water.”
“High might be hard, but if you can find somewhere, yeah. Or natural cover. We shouldn’t get too far apart, though. The last thing we want to do is lose each other.”
“So you don’t want to split up.”
“Have you ever seen a horror movie?”
“I didn’t want my boobs to distract you while you’re—“
He rolls his eyes. “Shut up, Clarke.”
But it’s really not so bad. Well, it is. Surviving in the middle of nowhere with almost nothing is awful. They’re hungry and sunburned and dehydrated. But it’s not bad being all those things with Bellamy. It’s better than doing it with a stranger. They figure out minimal clothing and a decent shelter, and at night when they can’t do anything else, they catch up. She finds out they live relatively close together, both in the Boston area, and that he’s going into academia, which she’ll admit seems like a good fit for him.
It’s hard to feel like it’s really going well, but it seems likely that they’re going to make it through their twenty-one days.
Which is when the storm hits.
Clarke is asleep when it happens, but Bellamy shakes her awake, the panic clear in his eyes. It doesn’t take more than a second for her to figure out why. She hasn’t been in a lot of bad storms, but she knows the signs. Rain is already spattering a little, and the wind is picking up.
“We need to get out of here,” he says. “Get somewhere higher up.”
They don’t have much stuff to gather, but she gets what she has. “You’re worried about flooding from the river?”
“Yeah.” He scrubs his face. “Fuck.”
“Have you heard thunder?”
“Not yet, but it could be coming. So we should get away from the water.”
“Yeah.” She clucks her tongue. “If there’s no thunder yet, I think we should head for the rocks. We could maybe find shelter there. We haven’t explored everything. We might find a cave.”
He nods. “Yeah, that’s probably best. I think our mics went out.”
“Really?”
He taps his, and there’s no feedback. Clarke winces. “Shit. So they might not be able to find us.”
“Yeah, but we’ll be alive, so–”
“So let’s go,” she agrees. “Cave.”
It takes them longer than she’d like to find decent shelter in the rocks. Bellamy’s got his axe, the single item he brought with him into the wilderness, so he goes first, ready to fight anything else that might be trying to escape from the rain in here. But, to her relief, they’re alone, and the cave is even relatively dry still. They go as far back as they can, and Clarke gets a fire started. Their clothes are still minimal, and not only is it colder outside in the storm, but they’re wet and the cave is freezing.
She’s the one who has to say, “We need to share body heat.”
Bellamy jumps. He’s sitting on the other side of the fire, glancing over shoulder every few seconds, paranoid that something will come for them.
“What?” he asks.
“I’m freezing, so are you. All our stuff is soaked, and our mics are down. If we want to make it through tonight, we need to make sure we don’t freeze to death, so–come over here.”
He lets out a breath that Clarke can see, like he’s psyching himself up, but he must know she’s right. He stands and comes over, sitting right up next to her. Despite everything, he does feel warm, and she immediately moves in close, wrapping herself up in him.
He laughs, soft. “You know this was basically all I wanted senior year of college, right?”
She blinks, looks up at him. “Which part?”
His throat bobs on a swallow, and he hesitantly raises one hand to smooth her hair back. They’re both disgusting, but she’s mostly used to that at this point. And he’s still, well, Bellamy.
The longer they’re out here, the less she can imagine ever doing this with anyone else.
“I had such a huge crush on you,” he admits, his smile soft.
Clarke manages not to laugh, mostly because that’s never a good response to someone sharing their feelings. But it’s so hard to believe. “Really?”
“Yeah.”
She repositions herself, snuggling closer, resting her head on his shoulder. He props his chin on her hair. “Were you waiting for the mics to go out to mention that?”
“Not exactly. Waiting to see if I still did. Have a huge crush on you.”
“And?”
“Definitely.”
She smiles against his neck. “Good. Let’s survive, brush our teeth, shower, and go on a date like a week after that. Assuming the crush survives whatever happens in the next ten days or so.”
“Deal. I’m going to kiss you then too. But, yeah. We should survive first.”
Clarke’s eyes drift shut. It is warm, pressed up against him. And she feels shockingly safe, all things considered. “Yeah, that’s the plan.”
*
When they leave the cave the next morning, it’s not exactly good news. The river flooded, like they thought, and their old campground is under water. Most of the places they’ve spent time are under water, in fact, all their usual stomping grounds.
“Fuck,” says Bellamy.
“I’d say we could stay in the cave, but we’d starve.”
“Yeah.” He looks around. “No sign of the cameras, either. I assume they’d airlift us out, or at least check in, but–”
“They might not be able to get back here. It’s not like we were getting help before, really,” she says.
“Yeah, but if one of us had gotten badly hurt–” His jaw works. “We aren’t working with a safety net right now. Not until they find us. So we need to be extra careful.”
“You don’t have to tell me that.”
He cracks a smile. “Yeah, I know. But still. You’re the one with the first aid background, so if you get hurt, I’m not going to be as much help.”
“You be careful too. I’m not that good at first aid.”
“Yeah, I know. Okay,” he says, letting out a long breath. “Food and water. We’ve got shelter. Maybe something to try to mark the cave? If they come looking for us, we’ll probably hear them, but–”
“Yeah, that’s a good idea.’ His mouth twists up. "We did want a realistic survival experience.”
“Be careful what you wish for.” After a second of hesitation, she reaches down and takes his hand. “It’s going to be slippery,” she explains. “Careful, right?”
He squeezes her fingers. “Yeah, careful.”

It takes five days for the helicopter to show up, and they’re not good days. There was never a ton of food, but there’s even less now. They boil all their water before they drink it, the small pot Clarke brought as her personal item working overtime, but she still feels thirsty all the time. Bellamy’s running a low fever after the third day, which is terrifying, and she presses her hand against his forehead every few minutes, making sure it’s not getting worse.
At least he doesn’t mind.
The flooding changed the terrain too, many of the places where they knew underwater now. The fact that their cave is clean and dry makes it desirable housing for animals, and every time they leave, they’re worried something else will move in.
But they make it, and the sound of the copters early in the morning on the fifth day is the best thing she’s ever heard.
“Bellamy,” she murmurs, stirring awake on his chest. “Bellamy.”
He doesn’t wake, and it occurs to her that he’s warmer than he should be. The fever’s finally spiked, and she has to swallow back on the panic. The rescue is here; he’s going to be fine.
She gives him a hard shake. “Bellamy. Wake up.”
He makes a face, but his eyes blink open. “Clarke,” he says, like it’s a surprise to see her.
“I hear a chopper. We need to get out so they’ll pick us up. Can you stand?”
“I’m fine,” he says, struggling to sit. Once he’s upright, he visibly reels, and Clarke slides her shoulder under his arm for support. “Fuck.”
“If we get out, you can see an actual doctor.”
“But it hasn’t been twenty-one days.”
She has to smile. “I think the last five days count double. We were actually alone. No one can say we’re not survivors. Ready to stand up?”
He exhales. “Ready.”
They make it to the mouth of the cave to find the helicopter already approaching. They’d marked the entrance, hoping to be identified, and Clarke can’t help feeling smug that it worked. They aren’t half bad at this survival thing. They made it.
Raven, the main camera operator, is the one to pull them into the helicopter.
“Fuck! We thought you died.”
“Based on what?” Clarke asks. “We’re survivalists.”
“Our camp got flooded,” Raven admits. “It wasn’t great for us, and we had a lot more to work with.” She looks over Bellamy, critical. “Is he okay?”
“Fever,” says Clarke. “It got worse this morning, so good timing. Bellamy?”
He slumps onto her shoulder. “If we leave with you, do we lose?”
“I don’t care, we’re leaving with them. You’re not dying.”
“I’m definitely dying, Clarke. Death is inevitable.”
She smooths his hair off his forehead. “Please don’t be an idiot. Do you have aspirin or something?”
Raven is watching the interaction with interest, but she shakes herself out of it. “Yeah, and protein drinks. We’ll take you guys right to a hospital. Don’t worry, we’ll count this as a success. It’s going to be a pretty weird episode. Once you guys are feeling better, I think we’re probably going to just film some interviews about the storm and the aftermath and use that for the rest of the episode. But we’ll get you to a doctor first.”
“Thanks, that would be great. But aspirin now.”
They’re in better shape than Clarke expected. Bellamy’s fever responds to antibiotics, and Clarke’s mostly just dehydrated. She’s cleared in a few days, and spends her time hanging out by Bellamy’s bed, waiting for him to recover.
It’s not really a surprise that the producers want to talk to them together, after all that.
“Tell us about the storm,” says Roan. He’s not Clarke’s favorite person, but she’ll admit he’s a good interviewer. “What time did it hit there?”
“How would we know?” Bellamy grumbles. “It woke me up, and then I woke Clarke up. We picked a camp close to the river so we’d have access to water, but we didn’t want to be there if it flooded.”
“Which it did,” says Clarke.
“Which it did.” He sighs. “There wasn’t any lightning, but we were worried there would be. We decided a cave would be safest, if we could find one. And luckily we did. It took longer than we would have liked, but we did find one, and we set up camp there instead.”
They cover the flood’s effect on the terrain, the challenges in adapting to the environmental changes. Bellamy talks about his fever, and Clarke takes his hand, rubbing her thumb against his, so grateful. She could have dealt with the fever if she had to, but she’s much happier he could get proper care with real doctors.
Roan sees, of course, and once Bellamy’s done, he asks, “How was it being out there together? You’re our first couple to have known each other before you hit the ground.”
“It was nice,” she says. “We haven’t seen each other in a few years, but I remembered him. We knew how to work together, and we didn’t have to spend any time figuring each other out.”
“Do you think you’ll be seeing more of each other?”
She hasn’t even kissed him yet, which is honestly a crime. But all she can do right now is smile. “Yeah. I think we might.”
