okay okay queerness in the get down let's fuckn goooo

disclaimer: I havent watched this show in full for like 5 months at least, probably gonna get something wrong and/or forget some more important bits. also this wasnt proof read I just word vomited

tws: period typical homophobia, abuse mention, f slur use, bury your gays trope, overdose mention, mention of a creepy possible age gap (the age gap hasnt been confirmed so that's why its possible), cops

going from least to most prominent queer characters, let's start with mylene cruz!

so, from the beginning of this show she has an established romantic relationship with ezekiel (although the status of their actual relationship changes frequently throughout the show) and though this was a relationship she was hesitant to pursue, it is clear that she does have romantic feelings for him and if not for them both having growing careers in very different music genres (zeke specifically working in a genre that she repeatedly labels as bad because she thinks they're ruining records + that it isnt real music because they're using someone elses piece and rapping over it, that's not really important here tho lol) they probably wouldve had a much healthier, smooth sailing romance. that being said theres a few things that happen in the show that, while not explicitly clear, or even really good coding at that—to the point where you wont catch if you really arent looking for it (and trust me, I always look for coding, hers was just so little that it flew over my head until I saw someone else mention it)—are still cool to think about!

so, for starters, I wanna mention the toy box performance, which was performed by mylene and regina, who are best friends. that's all cool and shit, and you dont really think much about it...until you hear about the fact that the show runners purposely colored a lot of the scenes in that performance with the bi colors. like. the writers after the show ended basically said "oh yeah there was plans to make her coding more explicit, but our shit got cancelled soooo" and then dropped the fact that she was gonna be bi (or at least implies bi) in the series, which puts a new twist on a few things.

now, besides the bi coloring in the background of the toy box performance (which was mostly on scenes with her and regina, which involved a lot of uh,, lowkey lewd dancing. with each other. in very revealing outfits. wooooo), there's her music! I dont tend to read too much into this one bc, like I said before, her coding is fucking light and the writers themselves said they didnt really get to do much with it, but I think some stuff with her music is interesting. specifically how her, yolanda and regina's song set me free blew up because dizzee, resident (lowkey enby coded) bicon, got their song played in a queer club. also that the song was majorly important to dizzee and started playing literally right as he kissed a boy for the first time and realized "oh shit I like boys that's bonkers". also that the song can be taken in a gay way since literally the entire thing is about becoming your true self, fully and unapologetically, which is what both dizzee and mylene's entire character arcs are about. dizzee (and a lot of other queer people, apparently), heard this song about being set free and it resonated with them so much that they got that shit most of its popularity.

speaking of dizzee and mylene, they parallel each other a lot in the way that their arcs are about them realizing who they are, coming into themselves and no longer just letting people treat them like shit in a sense (dizzee starting to tell people essentially that they can call him weird all they want, they can make fun of how he acts, what he likes, how he dresses, etc. but he likes how he is and quite literally saying "it's okay to be an alien" as he has consistently compared himself to one throughout the show vs mylene learning that if she wants to be a disco singer she needs to put her foot down, not let anyone, not even the love of her life, not even her abusive father, stop her from achieving her dreams, etc. and continuing to pursue her career with or without their support). one more little parallel that I think is interesting is during I think s2 towards the end of the show is when dizzee and thor are shown together having fun with each other, painting all over the building and each other and are basically just being happy and in love together and then they have these clips of them being interspersed with clips of mylene at a party where she is starting to realize that if she wants to get anywhere she needs to be her own main priority and that she needs to put her career and her dream, which is what makes her the happiest, above all else if she wants to succeed. idk I just think how the show made these two into a weird parallel, accidental or not, is neat. maybe not an explicitly queer parallel, but I think at least how her music and whatnot helped dizzee, the main queer character in this show, blossom, is important.

moving on we got shaolin fantastic also known as "oh no your internalized homophobia is showing-"

so, heres a quick list of...interesting shao facts:

Consistently referred to as fag/faggot (shaolin fanfaggot is my personal favorite); he gets really defensive about this despite nobody actually thinking he's queer, it's just people being assholes to be assholes, and he is the only character consistently referred to using a slur, especially a homophobic one, especially for a "straight" character. dizzee, a canonically queer character, is called a fag less than shaolin is even though dizzee actively goes to gay clubs, has a not so secret dude he "hangs out with" and wont let anyone properly meet, paints his nails, wears less than straight clothes even by the 70s standards and is just all around the definition of fucking queer (and I mean like in the weird way, not the gay way). in fact theres only like once I can remember him being called a fag and it had nothing to do with him actually being gay it was literally just like thrown out there the same way you would call someone a bitch.

Has only shown sexual interest in women, yet refuses to have deeper relationships with women in general (possibly because of trauma but who knows) but takes his relationships with his "brothers", specifically zeke, very seriously

Tells zeke and zeke ONLY his real name when zeke was planning to stop being his friend bc shao more or less got boo boo, a like 14 year old black kid, arrested for selling hard drugs; he was clearly scared and trying to do anything to keep zeke around, literally chasing him down the street and hounding him until he got zeke to stop and argue with him

Kept threatening to beat up zeke in the end but couldn't actually bring himself to do so, instead saying that zeke is "fucking lucky" before walking away

Let's zeke get away with things that nobody else can, in general just has a weird soft spot for ezekiel that he shows with nobody else

when shao found dizzee with thor in a vaguely compromising situation (like they were just shirtless covered in paint sleeping next to each other but shao had also seen everything they painted on the walls ((which some of it was sus)), it was clear they had painted on each others bodies and dizzee had been routinely disappearing with this guy for weeks now yet not producing nearly as much art, at least, as far as we audience members know) he didnt judge him but instead, waited for him to get cleaned up and then told him something along the lines of "theres a reason why im so secretive blah blah blah [not everyone needs to know everything about me]", which, in context, kinda implies that he might be a lil. a lil homiesexual. jus a lil.

whenever even the possibility of zeke leaving him comes up he absolutely loses it. he has literally cost ezekiel life changing opportunities because he thought zeke would just up and leave him for them. this could be abandonment issues bc he's a severely traumatized character, and that probably does contribute to it, but it also is just not a reaction he has to any of their other friends just randomly dipping in and out of his life soooooo

generally speaking, this mfer has got either bisexual with a big hard on for zeke coding or homosexual with terrible internalized homophobia and still a hard on for zeke coding. either fucking way, that nigga gay. he gay as hell. gay as fuck man. there wasn't really much to analyze here tbh bc the coding is just so fucking obvious if you look for it or you are/have been a gay person who's dealt with at least a little bit of internalized homophobia.

also, just a sidenote, idk how fucking old shao, but I'm praying hes like at max 19 bc I'm pretty sure zeke is a minor in this show and shao definetly is not so the whole him being heavily implied to have a crush on ezekiel thing is kinda. oof. not oof if zeke is like 17 but any younger than that? OOF.

edit: apparently the characters are only supposed to be a year apart in age but i had no clue about that before writing this post and since shaos age was never actually stated in the show i naturally assumed he was an adult since his actor Looks Like An Adult. this is definetly on me to a certain extent, but i also never saw anything about this when trying to find our their ages so 🤷‍♀️ maybe i just didnt look deep enough, sorry!

now moving on to the main event...marcus dizzee kipling :]

so, first things first, let's talk enby coding bc him being bisexual was already confirmed!

um, to start off, I just wanna say I dont think this enby coding was intentional or even really coding, it's just moreso me being a dizzee kin on main and knowing as a transmasc enby he has very transmasc enby vibes. for example:

cool, gender neutral nickname that everyone calls him

paints nails various different colors

the whole wardrobe is just a transmasc enby heaven...fishnet shirts, jean overalls, jackets and cuffed pants galore, the big colorful pins, etc

gender neutral hairstyle (when I had my fro it was very sexy and made it easy to transition between hyper masc and vaguely fem, which is pog)

comparing himself to/representing himself consistently with an alien character (though this is meant to represent his sexuality, it could also double as a gender thing too, not neccesarily bc of the whole nonbinary alien trope but bc an enby who likes aliens might heavily identify or compare themselves to whatever their idea of an alien is, whether that just be a genderless entity or a motherfucker with fly style and no need to be perceived as anything other Wacky As Hell)

moving on from there, let's talk about how his queerness is presented to us and how, while it may be a really good piece of representation, especially coming from netflix, it still lacks in A Lot of places.

so, let's start with good things!

i personally really like the get down's queer rep with dizzee bc it's (for the most part) nonsexualized and very very soft, about dizzee figuring himself out and realizing there is a place where he fits in, and about two teenagers in the 70s falling in love over their shared passion for street art. it also features an interracial couple where both boys challenge stereotypes both about queer men and men of color, which is epic poggers and very sexy. this piece of rep specifically is very important to me bc I am a queer black person and even tho interracial relationships are mostly normalized now, I've still had people give me shit for primarily dating white people in a town that is...primarily white lol

mm anyways, I can also appreciate how in the get down, dizzee being represented by rumi the alien is not a thing specifically related to gender (as it often is) and instead is about his sexuality and just in general weirdness and how it has led to him being alienated amongst his peers, poc or otherwise. him seeing himself as an alien is not about just his queerness, which is important, it is about him being a queer black man who talks different, acts different, dresses different and is "soft"—he isnt a walking black male stereotype and he wouldnt have been seen as masculine back in the 70s by any stretch of the imagination. this can be relatable to a wide spectrum of queer poc, from queer black men currently who still have to deal with this shit or to people like myself who are afab neurodivergent mixed race enbies that have always been signaled out as weird and alienated for it. dizzee is god rep bc while he has a small part in this show, his parts are very impactful, hard hitting and show queer poc of all ages that they arent alone and that it's okay to "weird", you just need to embrace it because somebody will love you for you, as thor did for dizzee.

that being said theres um. some minor problemas here,,,

namely:

dizzee and thors first kiss

the lack of development this pairing got

the way dizzee was confirmed bisexual off screen, he never said the words himself, just showed interest in both genders

the way dizzee and thor were never even confirmed boyfriends or just fwb so most of the fandom just calls them boyfriends bc Why Not

dizzee was implied fucking DEAD??? AT THE END OF THE SERIES?????? AND THOR WAS IMPLIED ARRESTED?????????????

now, these might have been things that wouldve been fine had the show been given it's full run but it wasnt which is why we are now left with probelms.

so, from the top, let's go over these: dizzee and thor's first (and only "on screen") kiss was one that was shown in a montage of other queer people making over and doing other vaguely romantic/sexual things, one of those things being a whole ass naked titty being mouthed at, but the actual kiss...was just not shown? like they really did just say "yes they kissed <3 you know this from the context clues of it being in a montage with kissing, hickey giving and titty sucking <3 but no we will not show it <3" LIKE HELLO? I SAW A NAKED BOOBIE BUT NOT TWO MEN KISS??? HUH????????

also, dizzee and thor were both fucking high as hell during this bit like this isnt a terrible thing but it's also like sometimes you do shit when you're high that you wouldnt do sober and they just never kissed again on screen so like?? like idk that's not that bad but it does kinda irk me since they deadass got no other on screen intimacy after that unless you including painting on eacher other or sleeping next to each other on a shitty mattress but not touching at all during it bc they were both at opposite ends of the mattress like half way off it

so yeah, that was trash. then we got lack of development, which kinda goes with the "dizzee being a bisexual but he never says it in canon" thing cause like...okay dizzee was already sort of a side character from the get go like he wasnt the mc by any means, but he became way more of a background character as things continued until we basically only saw him for performances or when he was with thor, yet they got no fucking development as a pairing other than "dizzee realize he gay, he like thor, he and thor spend time together and ig probably do some gay stuff but we dont really know bc we only ever see them do graffiti together now" like?? tf am I supposed to do with that shit. answer. quickly. and then theres dizzee not being confirmed bisexual, which is just a running problem with shows literally doing everything to say a character is bi except for having the character just...say they're bi? which would be so easy? like a good way dizzee and thor couldve had some development is by thor teaching dizzee things about the queer community that he didnt even know existed, thor couldve helped him understand what being bi meant and helped him label himself and whatnot but instead we got an off screen confirmation that the writers had bisexual in mind when writing him. which is garbagé.

the whole thor and dizzee never having a confirmed relationship status is also a development problem cause like literally nobody knows if they were just friends who made out, maybe fucked, who knows, or if they were dating bc dizzee does give a love confession but a love confession doesn't mean there is a relationship, especially since thor didn't say he was in love either (as far as I remember, I could be wrong, plus whether or not that really happened or was apart of dizzee literally overdosing during a performance is unclear so 🤪)

and now for the biggest issue...bury your gays trope.

during the season 2 finale, dizzee and thor are chased by cops after they are found doing graffiti, one of the cops is able to catch thor while the other chases dizzee into a train tunnel and there is a train seen headed straight for him before the show cuts to black on a train horn. the show writers claim that if they had gotten another season, dizzee wouldve been alive but since they didnt and since that's essentially super fan trivia knowledge, most people dont fucking know that and instead had to watch a black queer teenager chose death over being fucking arrested by a white cop. on top of that, thor didnt see any of that shit because he was caught and the cop started hauling him off while dizzee was still being chased so thor literally has no clue where his friend/possible boyfriend fucking is or that he's likely dead in a goddamn tunnel all alone, unless you count the fucking pig that chased him in there who wouldve died too. this shows rep was so fucking good as far as most shows go on not having major fucking problems, on not being toxic and over sexualized, etc, etc. and then they just. killed a black queer teenager for no fucking reason. like it was literally the last episode ever, it would add nothing to the plot, it would just devastate fans and devastate it fucking did. I dont cry easy but seeing a character I identified with, who I had hyperfixated on, die because he'd rather that than be arrested is terrible. it fucking sucked.

so yeah. that's my all too extensive thoughts/analysis on the get down's queerness. theres definitely stuff I missed, or misinterpreted, or looked too much into, etc, etc., but this was a fun thing to spend time writing sooo yeah!! thanks for the ask anon, sorry this was just a big rambley info dump, but hopefully you get some enjoyment out of it since it took like 3 hours at least 😭😭 feel free to ask clarifying questions lol

helloo!! new headcanon series here hehe. i hope you like this very long set of headcanons!

how you ended up in a house with these guys:

they're such a tight-knit bunch considering the fact that they've been living in a dormitory throughout high school

it was probs semi or kawanishi who suggested getting an extra roommate to help with the rent (tendou and goshiki are accident prone they need someone to help pay for repairs)

so ushijima made and put up an ad for an extra housemate. although he didn't disclose the fact that you'd be rooming with 7 other dudes

you were kind of desperate for some housing at this point so you just went with it

the person who greets you at the door is shirabu. but its more like he saw you, your bag, and went back inside the house leaving the door open

you stood there for a whole ten minutes before kawanishi came up to invite you inside

you're instantly greeted by goshiki and semi cleaning the house like crazy. semi was punching a couch cushion so that it looked an extra soft pillow

tbh the only normal you see are ushijima and reon. they're probs the ones who interviewed you to see if you were a good fit as their housemate

despite how weird your first impressions of some of your housemates were, you were still keen to move in

and then that's when tendou decided to come home from the pet shop with an iguana

living there:

you're roommate ends up being shirabu because no one else wanted to room with him (jk they all drew straws and he was lucky)

he's a pretty good roommate: clean, keeps to himself, doesn't play music too loudly

except the fact that he ALWAYS HOGS THE UPSTAIRS BATHROOM

the bathroom might as well just be his because it's FULL of beauty products. also shirabu takes a million years to get ready that at this point, everyone uses the downstairs bathroom

lmao y'all get your revenge tho by using some of shirabu's products when he's gone

its particularly you, semi, tendo, and kawanishi who like to do that

semi and reon are both roommates and are probably the most normal people in the house which is saying something

but his favorite person to mess with is his roommate: goshiki

okay goshiki is a Heavy Sleeper and one night you and kawanishi decided to draw criss-cross stocking marks on his legs with permanent marker

goshiki is an alright housemate. he's polite, does his assigned chores, rarely gets into your privacy

but oh my god every morning at 5 am he wakes up the entire house BY BLENDING PROTEIN SHAKES

you and shirabu considered soundproofing your room or chaining goshiki to his bed

ONE OF THE HOUSE'S GREATEST MYSTERIES: how does goshiki cut his hair?

tendou knows you've been dying to know why so one day he's all 'do you really wanna know?' and you're like 'HECC YEAH' and he takes your arm and brings you to goshiki's room

in there you find him with a bowl on his head and cutting along the rim with his scissors

shirabu is also with him but he has a ruler for his bangs

its the only time they ever get along

tendou and ushijima has hands-down the most chaotic room set-up

for one, half of it, ushijima's half, looks like a traditional japanese house

you know that scene in BNHA where todoroki was showing off his room? yes that one

y'all are like 'how was he able to bring tatami mats in his room?'

and then tendou's half looks like a weird-ass storage room complete with an iguana tank (yes he kept it)

tendou probs has those color-changing lights too

and the funny part about it is that both ushijima and tendou are completely okay with the set-up

also tendou has the most irregular schedule ever. like,,, circadian rhythms just wasn't installed in the being that is Tendou Satori

like,, he'll be making mac and cheese at 3 am and just enter your room asking if you want anything

you: WHY WOULD I WANT MAC AND CHEESE AT 3 AM???

shirabu, who's still awake because he's a med student: i'll have some

ushijima on the other hand has such a set schedule and daily routine. he's the definition of 'working like clockwork'

you guys even use him as your clock because why not?

you: guys what time is it?

reon: ushijima just left for his morning run so probably 7am

the only thing is that ushijima,,, generally doesn't cook??

and by that he likes to eat raw vegetables. no seasoning, no nothing

and he always offers to make people snacks and he does it so sincerely that you can't help but accept his snacks

*insert scene of you eating raw carrots at 11 pm while studying*

house incident: everyone being a closeted fan of Naruto

everyone in shiratorizawa is a closeted naruto fan (except for a few but we’ll be discussing) and no i don’t accept criticism on this

goshiki MAY have rock lee’s signature bowl cut and sometimes walks around the house in leg weights but he doesn’t say who he copies them from outright

but EVERYONE ELSE 

you started having your suspicions when you walked into semi and reon’s room looking for a pencil and found semi sitting in bed with a pile of tissues around him and his laptop on his lap

you guys stare at each other for a while and semi just quickly yells “I WAS WATCHING PORN”

you: I DON’T NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU’RE WATCHING

my boy semi was actually crying to that part in naruto when zabuza and haku died

his roommate reon on the other hand has a secret tattoo

it’s a sharingan tattoo and its on his back, just between his shoulder blades, which is why he doesn’t go around shirtless (his favorite character is itachi don’t @ me)

reon probably owns an akatsuki cloak too

kawanishi has an ENTIRE playlist of the naruto opening and ending tracks that he got from youtube and converted into mp3 format on youtube mp3 converter which he then downloaded and organized into a playlist with the album art when he was thirteen

sometimes you’ll hear him whistling Ikimono Gakari and everyone in the house is all 👂👂👂

tendou is the only one not lowkey about it but he’s not lowkey about anything he likes

and then one day you and tendou are in the kitchen and ushijima decides to watch tv while eating breakfast

while flipping through the channels he comes across the rock lee vs. gaara fight and he just decides to watch while eating

tendou’s like ‘wakatoshi? do you,,, like naruto?’

ushijima: is this naruto? it looks pretty cool

AND THEN YOU AND TENDOU JUST AMBUSH HIM AND GO INTO A TED TALK ABOUT HOW AWESOME NARUTO IS 

while you’re busy ranting about it, semi, goshiki, and reon, who recognize the unmistakable Sounds of Naruto, creep downstairs

semi: oh, cool. it’s naruto

reon: yeah, used to watch it when i was a kid

goshiki: hmm, seems like an alright show

and then USHIJIMA LOOKS AT GOSHIKI AND THEN AT ROCK LEE AND JUST GOES

‘hey, you remind me of that guy’

AND GOSHIKI ALMOST CRIES 

reon and semi end up sitting on the couch, trying to hold in their middle-school selves while watching 

and then kawanishi comes in and he’s just like OH MY GOD NARUTO!!

now almost everyone in the house is watching. at that part when rock lee drops his weights reon and semi jump off the couch and cheer

they can’t hold themselves back anymore

last but not the least, shirabu, who came back from class, walks into the living room to find all of his housemates cheering and crying in front of the TV that’s playing naruto

shirabu: omg u guys are lame

goshiki, sobbing: WE’RE NOT LAME IF WE FOLLOW OUR NINJA WAY

shirabu: welL, OBVIOUSLY THE BEST FIGHT SCENE IS WHEN NARUTO AND ROCK LEE GO AGAINST KIMIMARO YOU UNCULTURED FUCKS

and then he runs up to his room before coming down with THE FULL BLU-RAY DISC SET OF NARUTO ALL THE WAY UNTIL SHIPPUDEN

first, where to find dramas w/ english subs legally (cough):

netflix has a good handful, and they’re gradually getting more and more! hulu will sometimes have some, but the collection is way better on netflix

viki.com hosts a lot of k(orean)dramas & some cdramas and t(aiwanese)dramas

iqyi hosts a lot of c(hinese)dramas

youtube actually has a lot of cdramas that are officially uploaded!

kdramas are typically 16, 1-hour eps , although this can vary. they air 2 eps a week. the vast majority of them are self-contained, meaning the story is completed in these 16 episodes/there’s no next season. this is slooowly changing, which i hate tbh

cdramas i’ve only started watching in the last year, but the episode lengths vary a lot, and it’s typical for 1-2 eps to air per day. longest one i’ve started was 72 eps (yeah lol i didnt finish it), shortest was 20. they’re usually 45-minute eps, and are notorious for having the opening/ending credits show scenes from the entire show so watch out for those #spoilers. most cdramas seem to be self-contained, but some can get sequel seasons

dramas encompass a huge, huge breadth of genres, topics, and stories. in addition to the standards (fantasy, romance, action, crime, etc.) these are some of the new/unknown genres that you might seen thrown out there:

sageuk = historical korean drama, typically centered on palace/emperor politics in the joseon era (usually the 1300-1400s)

makjang = kdrama that goes VERY soap opera. evil twins, amnesia, secret paternity, the works

melo = short for melodrama. SAD lol. also if you see a drama with “tragedy” as a genre it usually means at least 1 main character dies

wuxia = historical or historical fiction shows that feature martial artists/fighters of some capacity. you’ll see “pugilistic world” a lot in the summaries, which usually equals clans, sects, or schools of martial artists that are in competition with each other. often has “wire-fu” aka martial arts like in crouching tiger, hidden dragon/martial arts that are more superhuman

xianxia = similar to wuxia, but incorporates fantasy elements, most often from taoism, chinese folklore, chinese mythology, buddhism. often about cultivation/trying to reach immortality. expect lots of wafting flowers or hair and really bad CGI

bl = boy love. what it says on the tin, there

censored romance = code for lgbt+ stories that usually have been changed/adapted to “gals being pals” or “two bros sitting in a hot tub 6′ apart because they’re not gay.” “bromance” or “sismance” is sometimes a code for this, also

idol drama = stars a pop star in the main cast. a lot of people are snotty about these, but there’s a lot of good ones out there and good idol actors!

sls/second-lead syndrome = not a genre, but it means you’re rooting for the other dude in a love triangle who ultimately doesn’t get the girl. really common in kdrama, because it’s a trend (that is thankfully starting to fade out) for the main lead to be a jerk/tsundere type

kdrama

goblin or guardian: the great and lonely god. urban fantasy, VERY popular, written by one of the more popular screenwriters, and stars a lot of big name korean actors. as far as i know, it’s what kickstarted a current trend of urban fantasy stories and a lot of other dramas after it make jokes/references to it

moon lovers: scarlet heart ryeo. im putting this one on here because it is SO MANY of my friend’s (and my!) first drama. time travel, politics, lots of shirtless beautiful men trying to kill each other. you know.

weightlifting fairy kim bok joo. i think this one is a great example of friends-to-lovers/cute slice of life dramas

reply series. three dramas that are “then and now” stories. reply 1997 is the first one, which jumps between a group of high school friends in 1997 and their lives in 2012--very similar to how i met your mother in premise but good. reply 1988 is often hailed as one of the best dramas, and while it has romance, it focuses more on a neighborhood and its residents--lots of family + friendship 

flower of evil and signal for crime/thriller! flower of evil was definitely one of my favorite dramas this year. signal bored me if im being honest (and i dropped it), but it’s highly rated and a lot of people love it

Pairing: Seamus Finnigan x Pure-blood!f!reader

Genre: Fluff, some angst.

Warnings: some curse words, not too many but there is still some

A.N: Here it is. Im sorry if it’s a bit all over the place. TBH I kinda pushed it and forced myself to write it. It’s not that I didn’t want to I just have a lot of school work with the holidays coming up and the end of the semester. I hope it meets your satisfactory. If not, let me know and I’ll try and rewrite it so that it does. 

Being born in a pure blood family, Y/N knew that being with any one other than another pure blood was forbidden. So if she knew that then why did she feel butterflies every time she saw him smile? 

She had started her fourth year with nothing else on her mind other than her studies, like she did every year. Of course this year was a bit different than the other years. With what happened at the quidditch world cup, and now the tournament. All she wanted to do was focus and get this year over with. But, when she saw him.. Something hit her heart. 

Seamus Finnigan, half -blood, Gryffindor, fourth year. In the four years she’s known him, she's always thought of him as kinda a dork. He had quite the tendency to make anything and everything he touched blow up in his face. At first she found it stupid, who could have the ability to blow something up without even trying? But then it just became something he did.

“So, did anyone get cute over the summer?” Lavender Brown asked the rest of the girls. They all giggled and talked about the boys of their house and some of others, while she just stared out of the window at the star filled sky.

“Y/N, you got your eye on anyone?” They all looked over to her. 

“What?” She looked away from the window. “Oh, um, no… not really.” She shrugged. 

It wasn’t necessarily a lie, she really just wanted to focus on her studies, but something about the pyro-prone boy had some sort of pull on her.

She remembered what happened when her brother came home one summer and explained that he had a new half-blood girlfriend. Her parents were furious, they forced him to break up with her and forbade him to write to her, or he could leave the family. She herself really didn’t understand what was so bad about muggle borns and half-bloods, her best friend, Hermione,  was a muggle born, but she knew her parents would never allow her to be with a half-blood. 

After sitting in the window for a little while longer, just thinking about nothing, she began to feel sleepy. Some of the other girls had gone to bed already but others just stayed up talking about their summer and some of the guys from Durmstrang. She got up from the window and went to bed.

*Time skip: first task*

She sat in the stands, next to her friends as she looked at the arena down below her. Dragons…. The first task was dragons. It was almost like they wanted one of the students to get killed. She worried for her black haired friend, who wasn’t even supposed to be in this thing in the first place. 

“Obviously no offense to Harry, but I seriously feel like Krum is going to win.” One of the boys in the year below them said. 

“Oh please. Where do your loyalties lie? Harry is obviously going to get this. He’s already had experience with dragons.” Seamus said, referencing back to their first year, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione had got out to Hagrid’s hut and witnessed the birth of a dragon. “What do you think, Y/N?” He turned to her. 

“OH, well. It all depends. They have four dragons, each one more dangerous than the next. And I’m assuming that they didn’t assign dragons to each competitor as it could be ruled favoritism, so they most likely have the competitor’s choose the dragons randomly, so it’s all up to chance. And if Harry got the most dangerous…” She shuddered at the thought of what might happen. 

“Hey,” Seamus put his hand on her shoulder, noticing the worry in her eyes. “Harry is a very talented wizard. He's strong, He knows what to do if something goes wrong. He’ll be okay.” 

“Harry also has a knack to get himself into dangerous situations Seamus, don’t forget that.” She thought back on the last four years they’ve known the famous Potter boy. Their first year, he almost died due to their possessed dark arts teacher. Their second year he almost died in the chamber of secrets, their third year, Serius Black had escaped, and there were dementors all around. During all these things she sat on the sideline, but heard about it through Hermione.

“Yeah, and he always gets himself out of it. The bastard hasn’t died yet. Come on Y/N,  

have a little faith in our friend.” He tried his best to calm her down.

The first three had gotten through the task fairly easily, she had a bad feeling about 

Harry’s match. They brought out the first dragon and she recognized it quickly. Hungarian Horntail. She took a deep breath, they were keeping the dragons on chains, Harry should be okay. She tried to keep a positive mind.

Harry came out and immediately summoned his broom. “Smart.” she thought. Harry was always skilled with a broom. But her positive mind had disappeared when the Horntail broke the chain and followed Harry. “Harry!” she yelled. “Oh my gods.” She put her hand over her mouth in disbelief.

“Hey it’s okay, He’ll be fine. It’s just like quidditch. You know, trying to stay away from the Bludgers and stay out of the way of the player tailing you.” Seamus put his hand on her back trying to comfort her. She knew he was trying to take the dangerous situation and try and make it seem less terrifying by comparing it to something Harry did almost every day.

“Finnigan, you and I both know this is nothing like quidditch. First off, the players tailing you don’t breathe fire, and want to eat you.” She scowled. 

“Bloody hell, stop being so negative. I’m just trying to help!” He threw his hands up in frustration. Once he had turned around and started to talk with Dean instead of trying to calm her down, she felt a small pull in her chest. She knew he had only been trying to help, but she seriously couldn’t get the danger of the situation out of her head and it had seemed to distract her from that. 

*Time skip: Yule Ball*

She was currently getting all dolled up for the Yule Ball, with Ginny, the youngest Weasley. Y/N was wearing a (F/C) gown, (reference), she had put her hair up in a messy sort of bun (reference). She was honestly very excited for the night, she needed to focus on getting ready, but her mind kept going back to him asking her to the dance.

“So, I… we’re friends right?” Seamus asked Y/N nervously.

“Um, yeah?” She was confused as to what had him like that.

“Well, with the Yule ball coming up… um… do you have anyone to go with yet?” He still didn’t look her in the eyes.

“No.” She shrugged. “Honestly I think I might just stay in the room alone.”

“No! Don’t do that.” He looked up to see her focused on the work she was doing.

“I mean, I don’t have anyone to go with, and it will only be a distraction.” She rolled her eyes. 

“Go with me.” He blurted out without thinking much. Y/N’s brain had gone blank,she froze. Not exactly expecting him to say that. She thought he would as Lavender or someone else, once she came back to reality she felt a tickle in her stomach. “I mean, if you really don't want to then you don’t have to.” 

“Okay.” she nodded with a smile.

“Wait, really?” His face lit up with joy. She gave him a nod and he ran off with a skip in his step. Running to Dean to talk about how he got the cute girl to go to the ball with him. Once he walked away she thought about what her parents would say. ‘They don’t need to know.’ she shrugged.

“Hello, Y/N?” Ginny waved her hand in front of Y/N’s face. She hadn’t even realized she had spaced out.

“Oh, sorry, Whats up Ginny?” She smiled at the young redhead next to her. 

“What were you thinking about?” She asked with a tilt of her head.

“Nothing important. Let’s just hurry up.” 

Once they had finished getting ready they walked out of the dorms and down the hall. They got to the stairs and saw Neville and Seamus waiting nervously. When Neville had seen Ginny he smiled and reached out his hand. But Seamus had just looked at Y/N, with awe. He didn’t move, didn’t smile, didn’t speak. Neville elbowed him in the ribs and then he finally reaches for her hand. “Hey, Neville you two go on ahead. We’ll catch up in a bit.” Seamus looked into the girls eyes, and Neville and Ginny walked off as they were told. “Hello.” He smiled.

“Oh, um, hey.” She said, cheeks turning red at how he pulled her closer. 

“You… you look…. Wow…” He said, breathless and examining all of her features. She felt the warmth spread all over her face.

“We.. we should go now Seamus.” She spoke softly, afraid that if she was any louder she would embarrass herself. 

He shrugged and moved away. “You need to be more confident. I don’t like this shy side of you.” He started walking away and she felt her chest get heavy. “I’m joking.” He said when he saw the look on her face. “But I don’t think there’s any reason to be all shy. Just be yourself.” 

They walked into the grand hall and waited as the competitors got the first dance. And then they eventually joined in. The whole night was a mix of upbeat and slower songs. The night was going great, until one particular slow song came on.

It was getting late and Y/N was getting tired, as they danced she rested her head on Seamus’ chest and they pretty much just swayed. He lifted her up to look into her eyes. “You really do look great.” He made direct eye contact. Normally it would have made her uncomfortable but looking into his eyes gave her a weird sense of comfort. They looked into each others eyes in silence. Until he leaned down and put his lips on top of hers. 

Shock ran through her body as she pushed him off. They looked at each other with wide eyes before she ran away. Seamus felt heartbroken. Not only thinking that she didn’t like him back but also afraid he had just ruined their friendship.

Y/N didn’t run back to the dorms. Instead she ran out into the courtyard. The guy she liked had just kissed her and she pushed him off her. She liked the kiss, she really did, but she didn’t want her parents to forbid her to ever talk to him. He was an art piece she could only look at, never touch.  She wanted to though, She wanted to be with him, but she was scared. Scared that her family would kick her to the curb. She also felt awkward now. What would she say when he saw her again? Would she explain it? Would she just act like nothing had happened?

She went to be that night with guilt running through her veins and sadness pushing down on her chest

*Time skip: Second task*

She had been avoiding him ever since that night. She wasn’t sure what to say or to do. At this point Seamus had gotten tired of this. When he saw her at the second task he made sure to keep an eye on her so that after they had all jumped into the water he could find her easily and pull her away. 

Harry was the last to jump in, writhing in pain, Neville was scared that he had killed him. Once Harry proved he wasn’t dead Seamus went to find Y/N. 

“Seamus? Where are you going?” Dean asked.

“I need to find Y/N. We need to talk about something.” Was all he said before leaving.

Once he found her he grabbed her by her wrists, startling the girl. He dragged her away from the lake and to the woods nearby. 

“S-Seamus?” she questioned one they stopped.

“What is going on? You haven’t talked to me since the Yule Ball. Look I get it if you don’t like me back, it’s what every, we can pretend like it never happened, but… don’t stop being my friend… please.”  He looked at her with soft eyes. 

“Seamus, it’s not that I don’t like you back…” She began “It’s that I do like you back…” 

“That doesn’t make a lick of sense.” He said bluntly.

“It really does. I like you back, but I can’t. I shouldn’t like you back.” She looked at the ground.

He pushed her up against the tree. “Look, stop playing with me. I’m not a toy. You like me back great, let me take you to Hogsmead. You don’t like me back, fine, this never happened, make up your mind.” He looked deep into her eyes.

“I do like you Seamus. But my family…” She wanted to cry. Seeing her eyes start to water Seamus lightened up a bit.

“You’re family what?” He moved his hand to her cheek, ready to catch any tears that may fall.

“My family is full of purebloods… I-I can’t be with you. No matter how much I want to.” A single tear rolled down her face.

“Stop lying. Why would it matter?” He started to get angry again.

“I’m not lying. My family said that I am only allowed to date other purebloods. Even if I tried to date you, they’d either kick me out of the family or, forbid me from ever talking to you again. And I really like you, I don’t want to stop being friends.” She grabbed his hand.

“Y/N, give this a try. I’ll stand up for you if your family tries to take you away from me. So what? Why should my blood keep us apart? I like you, and if you really are telling the truth, then you like me. No one should get to tell you who to be with. That’s up to you and to you only.” He pulled her closer to him, taking both of her hands into his. “Let me take you to Hogsmead this weekend, please?” 

“Okay.” she nodded with a smile.

“Can I kiss you again?” He asked, looking into her eyes for an answer.

 HI!! since you asked before sending it, I knew this was coming but my First Cool Guy Tumblr Ask is so neat,, anyway!!

This is my only IT-specific account, but I post almost everything I draw on my instagram, https://www.instagram.com/fabricsofteners/ (I don't know how people make links cool on tumblr aaa) I also have an AO3, https://archiveofourown.org/users/tangledheadphonecord , where I might post this one really long fic I’m working on (maybe not, as it’s super lame but God am I putting in work)? But mostly it’s just really old stuff atm, and no IT content right now - just some random drabbles from past hyperfixations tbh.

I used to be ‘fabricsofteners’ everywhere besides here - tangledheadphonecord is a username I used for my tumblr because I want a change from the fabricsofteners brand, as I've had it for quite a few years and have just grown kind of bored - just waiting a bit to change my instagram user. I also used to be ‘unbrandedmarkers’ like, three years ago on instagram? but, that era ended fast. I think I might have an old Tumblr under some variation of ‘fabric softener’ but honestly even if anything is up on it I’d probably be embarassed to look at it now.

I watched IT for the first time in 2019, I believe, but wasn’t really in the fandom until actually like, April of this year. I entered the fandom and developed a hyperfixation (sobs) by complete mistake - I read all the fics for michael mell/rich goranski on ao3, and was on a camping trip and wanted to read some Homosexual Fanfiction and literally remembered IT on a whim (rich-to-richie association) and read a bunch of Reddie fics, and it was all down (up?) hill from there.

Unshockingly, I’m sure, Reddie is my number one favourite IT ship. I’m also an enjoyer of Benverly, as well as Stanley/Patty - IT is like, the only fandom where I actually like the canon ships. I do also think Streddie/Stozier is really cute and Bill/Mike (unsure of the shipname?) is nice when I see it!! I think Reddis is cute because I am a total sucker for best-friends-to-lovers, as well asthe  ‘I tease everyone but mostly you’ and the ‘I’m so tired of you bullying me but if you ever stop I’ll cry’ and... just, the entire dynamic that they have. Stanley/Patty - there is no reasoning, I just want Stanley to be happy. Benverly - the way they were each other’s first Meaningful Interactions in so like?? agony, they’re so cute. They both deserve to be happy, and I’m so happy they find that happiness in each other. 

As for characters - Richie is absolutely my favourite. I (unfortunately /hj) kin and relate to him on so many levels it hurts. Having a character that feels that fear of their sexuality because of a horrible environment is painfully real. covering up struggles with humour and all that?? yeah, mood (also, crushing on your best friend-). What he means to me, in a sense, isn’t really canon - I read strictly fix-it fics, because I want to feel that hope that like fanon Richie, I don’t have to hide forever. I can be myself and be happy. Obviously I can’t much look to the movies or anything for that but hey - what’re Andy or Stephen gonna do, tell me to stop reading fics? 

I also really like Stanley!! I don’t,, have a reason. I just think he’s adorable and I love his dynamic with the other Losers a lot. Stanley breathed like, once, and instantly became a comfort character and not even I know why at this point, he just is. Eddie & Bev are up there, too - honestly, Bill is the only Loser I don’t have a strong attachment too. And honestly, he’s growing on me rapidly.

I mostly draw whatever my goblin hyperfixated brain can think of, as well as rebloging just about every post that I see and like (art, jokes, edits, fics, etc.) - I start and stop a lot of fics, maybe one day I’ll finish one but as of yet I have not... Sigh.

I honestly don’t think I do have anyone to tag for inspiration? I follow IT blogs but none I would go to for inspiration (no offense to any mutuals-) inspiration for me is mostly just seeing a pose and going ‘okay’ and suddenly I have a drawing - I have no clue what happens in between.

Actually not Reddie, I throughly enjoyed https://archiveofourown.org/works/23201011 for giving me the Mike content the movies have robbed me of for too long, as well as https://archiveofourown.org/works/25262698 which is pure stanlon greatness and made my heart flutter for the boys more than once.

I don’t really have any IT fics up of my own creation, and honestly my reception in way of Tumblr notes is far better than I expected so honestly, I have none to link lol. As long as I get minimun interaction I will thrive.

I wish I could say I’ve been in anything like a zine or anything, but I have not! I’m relatively new to the fandom (and having a social media dedicated to one thing) so I wouldn’t even know where to begin to join or be qualified for one, y’know? I’ve done art weeks in the past and found them incredibly fun but haven’t seen any for IT - but if anyone does happen to know of any... Feel free to send them my way-

As for the last question - other than like, hyping up Chosen and Jeremy just as much as we do the other IT kids (which, honestly I’m not even sure if is still a problem - I’ve just seen posts about it and it’s made me wary), I’m not sure? I’ve honestly not encountered anything in the fandom I find awful and honestly, for a fandom about a movie that is... Well, IT, I’ve really just kind of enjoyed my time in the fandom thus far?

(I will say we need 200% more attention being drawn to 1990s adult Eddie Kaspbrak, who is one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen - but I also feel that way about James Ransone, so I’m not mad.)

things i enjoyed:

revali beatdown simulator

the controls for the divine beasts are a bit clunky, but i think the angles they used for them did an excellent job at really making the player feel like we were actually controlling a divine beast. so i think it was done well.

link’s personality really gets to shine full force in this game with the amount of cut scenes and it was wonderful to see

every character clearly had a lot of love put into how they operate. they truly all feel unique, & all of their play styles fit them really well in my opinion

the game does a really good job of making you understand what a real threat the monsters are. like in botw they’re intimidating at first, but once you’re far enough into the game they become just an inconvenience to work around if anything. this game managed to actually make certain monsters intimidating for me again, and i think that’s a real accomplishment

the blight battles are actually somewhat challenging in this game and that is truly a commendable achievement lol i think all the bosses are good tbh. i didnt rly dislike or not enjoy any of them.

the way daruk and link’s friendship & urbosa’s motherly relationship towards zelda got to shine was. so good. it’s all i could’ve ever wanted

seeing the descendants again was really nice & it was awesome to see the champions interacting with them!! especially sidon and mipha omggggg. that was. really fucking good shit

kohga. just. kohga in general. getting to see more of him was really rad, he’s such a fun guy! and his english va was Excellent. you could really tell he was having a lot of fun playing him, and it was lovely to see! :)

zelda getting to really shine in this game was also lovely to see. and her being so assertive and badass by the end? omg. it was so wonderful especially after botw. man. 

the combat is done very well imo. im rly glad that they took so many elements from botw, but also added their own flares to make it feel fresh. it was rad.

sidon’s tagline is “winning smile” and his power is “boundless optimism” and i think that’s beautiful

the music in this game is SOOOOO good oh my god. multiple times during playing i had to pause to just appreciate it. it’s pretty much all remixes of botw with a few originals for the new characters, but they all slap. there was not a single song in this game i didn’t like. it is definitely one of my favorite video game soundtracks officially. maybe one of my favorite overall soundtracks in general tbh.

the visuals obviously look just like botw, but it still looked fucking gorgeous at some points. like. man. they really went off to make it look not only faithful to botw as far as appearance goes, but also as far as capturing botw’s beauty and it was. excellent to see!

if anything is true to botw’s backstory, it’s definitely how op link is. cause he was established to be op in botw, & when u finish botw he is also op as hell. he is so fun to play as the higher leveled he gets. he absolutely kicks ass. especially with a two-handed weapon??? daaaaammmmnnn. thats my badass baby boy!!!!

link eating rocks not once, but TWICE. just showing PEAK gremlin energy. 10/10 for those scenes they were great

the ending was really beautiful actually and i did cry like a little baby for it what about it

things i didn’t like:

obviously first and foremost.. this is not the game we were advertised. and no matter how much i overall enjoyed the game, it will always have some layer of being tainted attached to it due to the false advertising. this is not the prequel we thought we’d be getting. & not using “prequel” specifically doesn’t matter when all the advertising, including the box art talks about this being the story of what happened 100 years ago. with no indication it wasn’t the story of what happened 100 years ago in the botw timeline, but a separate universe/timeline entirely. i do hope we get dlc for the game at some point giving us what we were advertised, but at the same time... rly wish that the story that’s in the final game was dlc, & the story we were promised was the original :/ or just having the game have two separate storylines originally would’ve been cool. i just wish it wasn’t falsely advertised.

fuck any mission where you have to protect the useless hylian guards. i hate them. they suck.

the ai for player characters when you aren’t playing as them can also be pretty useless. it was really frustrating failing missions because my fellow party members weren’t helping me, and i was basically expected to be in two places at once to get shit done myself. :/ ik you can just switch between characters to make it easier, but like. i like playing as link the most. he’s my favorite character, & ofc since he’s mandatorily played for most of the story, he’s gonna be the most leveled up character regardless so he’s just the best to play as in general especially for harder missions. it was annoying to be forced to play as other people Solely cause the ai was so useless.

king rhoam’s attempt at a redemption arc. i’m not sorry that i just fucking hate this man. i don’t mind him entirely in botw bc you can see clear, genuine remorse during the cut scene at the end of the great plateau. but the redemption arc he gets in this game? after all the fucking shit he does in this game? especially when after his ~redemption arc~ i had to sit through a cut scene of him being an absolute fucking asshole to baby zelda after her mother just died????? absolutely fuck that shit. i don’t appreciate that crap at fucking all. he’s a verbally abusive piece of shit and i hate his guts.

obviously there was gonna be some retconning of how certain things worked in botw in order to make this kinda game work but the way sheikah technology works in this game is so goddamn confusing i do not get it. the works of botw are never outright said or explained completely, but it’s straightforward enough that it doesn’t really matter. this game does try to explain certain things and it just becomes. really clunky and confusing very quickly. 

the story is alright, i guess, but..... really confusing/convoluted as hell at times to a point that it’s. really fucking distracting. especially in comparison to how straightforward botw’s story is. like..... cannot help but be annoyed that such a problem wouldn’t have been a thing if they stuck to botw’s story.

i was sad when the egg thing died but i dont like the egg thing.... it is the MAIN reason shit was retconned so much & i just. dont get its purpose. but i did really like the reveal that zelda made it herself. that was good shit!

also the egg glitched out like. a LOT. idk what the fuck was going on with the poor thing but there was multiple times during a cut scene or when i was just sitting there that it was freaking out in the background and it was rly weird

elemental overworld boss monsters................. obnoxious. especially elemental guardians like goddamn bro what the fuck

i know warriors’ games aren’t about exploring anyway but the limitations for exploring was really sad/frustrating. this is still somewhat the world of hyrule before the calamity, which is something we’ve always wanted to see. not being able to explore even the immediate area at certain points because of shit like timed missions was really upsetting, man. :( i just wanted to see hyrule castle Before the calamity why was did they have to rob us like that.....

even though i did enjoy the boss fights, it did get. incredibly taxing eventually to have to fight the SAME bastards so many times. like yeah botw is also guilty of this with the blights, but goddamn.... at least i have a choice to avoid certain encounters with them? this game has you fighting the same bitches like upwards of 3-4 times. it was. really annoying tbh. like the fights themselves are enjoyable, but damn we added new characters and it still inevitably lacked variety in boss fights.

no playable kass >:( if he’s available later in dlc then fine but i wish he was playable in the original game. so many random choices you’d never expect are. why couldn’t he also be there >:(

overall:

it will forever have that sour taste for the false advertising attached to it unfortunately, but that aside, i overall did enjoy the game! i think it has a lot to love in spite of the issues i encountered. as someone who has this as their first warriors game as well, it did lend itself to letting me see the appeal of them. idk if i’ll get more, but i do get why they’re so beloved/popular now. it was an alright time, with some amazing highlights that i’m gonna think back on very fondly for a very, very long time. if i had to rate it..... 7/10

Hello, I always feel like I've been interested in Apollo, since I was young. Back then I'd look up what I could find on him online, mostly myths. Now that I'm older I want to start getting more involved with him, but I don't know how to communicate/worship him. My family is very Catholic, My main question is are there ways to worship Apollo in secret. Sorry for the question, I'm just wondering if its possible and don't want to offend Apollo! The answer is yes, of course, there are tons of ways to do so. I worship him in secret all the time. Every day.

First of all, if you want to reach out to him for the first time, literally just… sitting on your bed/somewhere you feel comfortable and safe, just… reach out to him. Take some breaths, focus on him or what you connect to him. Introduce yourself if you want, explain you’re interested in reaching out, say you’re nervous, explain your situation, whatever you feel like.

 You can do this in complete silence. You might feel weird, that’s fine. Just talk to him for a little bit if you want to say something– perhaps why you’re reaching out or tell him how you’ve always been interested in him (something tells me he’d love that tbh).

Something to keep in mind is that getting confirmation doesn’t really “matter”. Like… you can honor and love him without being “sure” that he’s there or whatever (this is a call out to young me lol). He can be quiet. I later learned that he can be shy, too, and that he sometimes just waits for a while, sees how things go. But I’ve always felt he’s barely ever offended. As long as you don’t start demanding that he does things and pretend you’re better than him, you’re fine.

Alright, onto some ideas you could do after this “first meeting” (or right away tbh, you don’t have to do any of the above, or what i’m about to say. these are all just suggestions).

music!! good thing about him is that all music is of his realm, so you can dedicate any song to him, any playlist, anything you like to listen to in general is his. any music you associate with him. really sit with a song, let it get you. discover new music, listen to things you have been wanting to try. sing. it doesn’t matter if you suck at singing. sing or hum or whistle if you can. dancing, too! in your room on some old fall out boy song? hell yeah. 

art art art art art. draw stick figures. make masterpieces. idk, start a sketchbook or finish an old one or make a painting or scrapbook or collage or paint or make clay figures or knit or do whatever type of art you like. Of all things. Apollo loves my art so much even when I hate it? He’s like a soft proud dad smiling at their toddler’s work whenever i make anything. Art is such a good way to just… connect with him but also make things for him. It goes both ways. It’s an honoring and a bonding.

i assume you might not be able to get a tarot deck bc of your situation, but if you could, do so, or even use a deck of playing cards or a necklace as a pendulum for divination. There’s tons of resources out there, but divination is another one of his things, and one of the main ways I communicate with him. However, nothing is necessary, and if you can’t get a deck or any form of divination, that’s completely fine too. 

Write! You can journal or do automatic writing or write dedicated prayers if you want.  Or go the creative writing route. I made a post about that here. Sometimes I also just write random pieces of fiction for him. He really wanted me to write a story about a princess. I eventually did and it was transformative as heck. Sometimes it seems to not be connected to him at all but it always is, somehow.

Poetry! Keep a collection of your favorite poems, or things you relate to him. Or write your own poetry! Again, it doesn’t have to be perfect or even good at all. He loves it all. 

You can make online altars on pinterest, tumblr, etc. You can have a little folder with stuff for him, or a file where you put in little thank yous or prayers or gifs of libations (I do this a lot). The online and technical realm is your friend.

Speaking of libations… if you can’t really do any physical offerings much, you can give him the tea you personally drink, or the food you’re eating. Pour some water down the drain for him, or give it to your plants. Make a cup of tea and “forget about it” but it’s actually for him. 

Smile at the sun. Sit in it. Wear sunscreen. 

Wear jewelry, clothes, anything you relate to him. Get a little tin and make a tiny altar where you put in a little picture of him and put in things you relate to him (i have a little sun pendant, some painkillers and bandages, pictures, etc). Make a tiny altar in your shelf or in a shoebox if you can but you really don’t have to. I can’t have an altar for him rn and he is completely cool with it.

alright i’m getting way too long here. There’s tons more to do. I’m sorry this is quite messy and probably not the most professional response you’ll ever get– I’m running on 4 hours of sleep but I just can’t resist talking about the big golden retriever.

So I just finished The Savior’s Champion by Jenna Moreci and

It...wasn’t good. In my opinion.

Well, I technically didn’t finish now, but this was what I sent my friend right after I finished reading it. It’s not a genuine review, mostly just things I felt right after I finished (and still do tbh). I felt like sharing it though so  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I might do a more in depth review later, but I’ll just post this for now.

I wanna preface this by saying there’s nothing wrong with liking this book, and I’m not judging anyone who does, it just...wasn’t good. Also, there are spoilers ahead

Honestly?? Honestly??? Where do I begin?? Specifics or the overall book?? Either way it was  b a d. Okay I guess to start, I feel like this whole book was a waste of time. Not in the "I hated it I wish I hadn't read it sort of way" though. I just felt like it was a set up for the second book. Like yeah, it technically had its own plot, but literally nothing was resolved and there were no answers to major questions. I was hoping to get /something/ by the end of the book, but it just raised even more questions and half of what happened didn't make sense after that ending. And it has absolutely no right to be as long as it is. There are so many parts that are unmemorable or useless, ngl I had trouble remembering half of the book.I feel like every scene or exchange between characters should either move the plot along or develop the characters more, and that hardly  e v e r  happened. A lot of Tobias' dialogue was just to show how much better he is than the other people in the tournament. Like, Orion and some of the others were decent, but Tobias was like the Golden Child of this whole thing. Like he couldn't ever do anything wrong. Even if he did fuck up or make a bad decision he ended up being right. Jenna shows obvious favoritism towards her two main characters and everyone else fades into the background so much they can hardly be considered shadows.I mean, she has how many characters and how fleshed out are they? Tobias and Leila are hardly fleshed out and don't change at all from their first to last appearance. I guess you could say Delphi is kind of developed, but even then we don't see too much of her. She's got a very tropey personality and most of her appearances are to connect Tobias and Leila.And I couldn't even be sad at any of the character deaths!! I can't even remember half of their names, let alone their personalities. I literally had to go back and reread the contestant's names (Raphael who?? Neil who??). I was disappointed at Orion's death, but not /sad/. It was more like a "damn, you're one of the few characters I don't hate reading about and now you're gone." And those characters hardly get a backstory. Again I know the book doesn't revolve around them but damn, if you're going to include this many characters don't just make them accessories to your mains.(She's got portraits/art for so many of her characters but they don't even have a story hdrasfjh. if you're going to go through the trouble getting official designs for them give them official backgrounds maybe??)Now moving on to individual characters...just...fuck...fuck I hate Tobias and Leila so much.First of all they're so fucking stupid. So fucking stupid. Especially Tobias. Why can't they just keep it in their pants and focus on things that are actually important? Like the tournament?? Or whatever the fuck Leila is doing?? Or the fact that they're being so obvious?? I didn't like Flynn but I agreed with him more times than I did with Tobias. At least Flynn understood it was a competition. Yeah, he was arrogant and was there for very selfish reasons, but damn he actually had his head on straighter than Tobias. If anything Jenna's most fleshed out character was Flynn. He showed both bravery and cowardice, he had his own goals and personality, and despite the fact he threatened to betray Tobias, he was basically loyal in the end. Aside from when the Sovereign ordered Flynn to kill him but like. Can you blame him? Also, if I found out that one of the people I was competing against didn't even want the "prize" (I don't like referring to the Savior as that but that's basically what she is adkjfadjdla) that I could possibly lose my life over than yeah I'm going to be pissed?? 

Tobias is just a Gary Stu. He's handsome, a "good man," selfless, talented, loved by many, and always talks about how fucked up and corrupted the competition is, as if other people don't know that?? I'm also pissy at how good he was at fighting. The boy has 0 experience except for the time he trained with Leila but he was able to kill the Giant, Drake, and Kaleo. I guess you could argue that he was fueled by rage or whatever, but against trained assassins?? I don't think so.And then Leila. Fuckign Leila. She was so boring. SO so boring. Basically just a female Tobias. Pretty, good at fighting, smart, and independent, with almost no flaws whatsoever, if any. Maybe you could count her being secretive as a flaw, but Tobias had literally no right to know what she was up to or any of her secrets. He obviously doesn't understand what goes on between politicians and other aspects of the tournament (or whatever Brontes is doing?? idk man) but he still demands Leila tell him anyway. Anyway, there's nothing intriguing about Leila at all. Get those two together and it's just cardboard on cardboard. They're so boring, and all they ever talk about is how much they "love" each other. I know Jenna was probably trying to hide the instant romance in TSC but they still only had thirty days to fall in love. And maybe it's just me but none of it felt real. SO much of it just felt like lust (how many times did we have to read about wet dreams or them grinding on each other like adhskja).As for her villains?? I honestly think I liked them more than her main characters. I mean, they weren't developed at all but I couldn't hate them just because they were dicks.Kaleo, for example. He's an asshole. Just a real mean fucker. Yeah, I didn't like how arrogant and unnecessarily cruel he was, but because he had no backstory or clear motives throughout the whole book I was just waiting on a reason to really hate him. The same thing goes for Cosima. We spend the whole book thinking she's the Savior, so I always thought a lot of her behavior was due to never having a mother and only being raised by her father (who I thought was just very protective at first tbh). But still, I don't even know how to describe her. Not quite bitchy but not the nicest either. Selfish maybe? Like, when Raphael was bitten or whatever she let the judging go on. Fake? How she flirted with all of the contestants. Ngl though I felt kinda bad, because she's the one who wasn't allowed to choose who she got to marry. (Kinda unrelated but Tobias always complained that men died for her and yeah it's fucked up but?? That's the competition?? and even though she's the Savior I doubt she could just be like "lmao nah let's not do this." He likes to act all righteous and good but he doesn't know wtf he's talking about lol). Or just gross, when she started groping and kissing Tobias when he obviously didn't want it? And it wasn't until the very end of the book that we started seeing those parts of her. When it's revealed that Leila is the actual Savior it was like, "okay, I'm supposed to hate her because she took advantage of acting as the Savior, and she betrayed one of the main characters. I see why she's an antagonist now." But it felt so cheap. Kaleo and Cosima were just there to make Tobias and Leila look better by comparison.

Did the people close to Tobias even matter??? Okay, so we had Milo, who was annoying af. I was lowkey happy when he died because I wouldn't have to read about him any more, but I also just. Couldn't care. Yeah he was Tobias' best friend but there wasn't a lot about him. And Tobias seemed to bicker with him more than anything tbh.His sister and mom were just kind of?? Forgotten after awhile?? His sister was the reason he entered the competition but soon enough everything was for Leila. He was fighting for Leila. He wanted to protect Leila. Leila was literally the only thing ever on his mind. Gaining a new motivation is one thing, but forgetting the people closest to you and focusing on girl you've known for a month is messed up. He was even about to leave with Leila to the forest at the very end. If I recall correctly Leila was the one to suggest going to their home. He was willing to just leave them in favor of running away with Leila.

Brontes was such a cut out villain it  h u r t (also fuck the official pronunciation of his name imma say it how I please). Old dude in position of power after more power (and we still don't know why) who has an obvious hatred toward the main character and is trying to sabotage him. Wowza. I'm so intrigued.I also  h a t e  how Jenna made it obvious who we were supposed to like and who we were supposed to hate. We need to hate Kaleo because he's a dick, we need to like Tobias because he's a nice guy. There was no depth to  a n y  of these characters. I'm not saying antagonists need to be a likable person, but they should be able to be appreciated as a character. I didn't like any of the antagonists in Gentlemen Bastards, but I at least found them interesting, and clever in some way. They were awful people, but they didn't give off that "high school bully" vibe that Jenna's antagonists did.There's nothing to differentiate the characters aside from whether they were "good" or "evil." There's no diversity in their mannerisms or the way they speak. Brontes, who's a royal, speaks the same way Tobias, a peasant, does. Also, you could tell me that Brontes and the contestants are all the same age and I'd believe you.Again kinda unrelated and it's not a book but like, in Boku no Hero Academia a lot of the villains have likable (and different!!!!) personalities and I actually enjoy them *cough* Dabi *cough* so it's not impossible.This might be just me nitpicking but I've got a problem with the way Jenna portrays Pippa. In her videos she claims that Pippa has development issues?? (like all of her characters lol) or something like that. As in she doesn't act her age. And idk if it was her intention but I really hope that that wasn't an attempt at diversity or anything. You can't claim diversity or representation in a book if you need to clarify outside of the book. 

Fuck in g world building. There. Was. None. Of. It.Here's what I know about the world: 

1.) There are multiple kingdoms (can't remember the name of Tobias' tbh) 

2.) The first Savior brought success or peace or goodness or whatever to his Kingdom and is now seen as a Goddess, essentially. 

3.) There's a brutal tournament to choose her husband when she comes of age

Other than that we don't know anything about the world or their society. What kind of customs do they have? What's their language like? I'm not saying she needs to give us every single detail of their world, but there are so many gaps that the reader has to fill in, and it feels so goddamn generic. You've got your royals, your peasants, your armies. Apparently it's like a greco-roman thing? But I wouldn't be able to get that from the book. I don't even have a lot to say on world building aside from the fact that it's just not there asejgfaldksfh. Alright alright the pacing of the book pisses me tf off.So the start wasn't too bad, the prologue has the Savior's mother being assassinated, and it doesn't take too long for Tobias to enter the tournament, and we get to the Labyrinth quickly enough, but after that there's a ton of up and down. For example the challenge that's like. Capture the flag or something like that. I hardly remember it, and you could tell moments like that were only so Jenna had an excuse to kill of another character that wasn't important. But then there were moments with Leila and Tobias that just dragged on and on, like their conversations or their time in the art gallery, and they weren't even interesting conversations. Nothing to move the plot along or reveal much about the characters. I guess you could say that it was to further develop their relationship, but I just felt like that's the only reason why they existed. I didn't feel like there was chemistry between two individuals, just two characters that were being forced to love each other.Again, not a book, but imma take Jake and Amy from Brooklyn 99 for example (I wanna use Percy and Annabeth but it's been like seven years since I've read it and I'd probably butcher their story lol). Anyway, Jake and Amy are easily their own person, and they're both really different, but they both have their own goals and they both admire each other for different reasons. They help each other grow, both inside and outside their relationship, and they're better people because of each other. Leila and Tobias don't have that. It takes pages and pages of dialogue, and moments where they are the only two interacting, to try and convince the reader that they're right for each other. Chemistry between characters shouldn't be forced through romantic or intimate situations. The reader needs to believe that the characters as individuals are good for each other. I don't know if I'm making a lot of sense here aeskjfh. 

Okay but back to pacing. The ending was just. So forced. And so rushed. And did absolutely  n o t h i n g  for TSC. In the very last pages we find out that Leila is the Savior and Cosima was just a face, but?? Why?? What was the point of withholding all of that information until the end if we're not going to get anything out of it. You could argue that we're going to learn more in the second book, but that's just bad writing imo. Obviously you're not going to get all of your questions answered in the first book of a series, but there should be some sort of closure at the end of an individual book, and we don't get that. The reader is left in the dark about everything at the end of TSC. We don't know anything, or understand what's going on. Imma just. complain about the fuckign part where Tobias is taken by Kaleo and Brontes. First of all, cheesy and lazy as fuck. I feel like that was just a way for Jenna to tell the reader what Brontes' plan was, or to further show how much of a dick they are, even though we already know. Also, just the whole being tortured thing. Really?? How many times have I seen that before??And then the  w a y  it ended. I was so disappointed. Aside from the fact that the last challenge/the maze felt rushed, the fight between Kaleo, Tobias, and Flynn was so boring and cliche. The way Flynn and Tobias worked together to defeat Kaleo. How Tobias was able to take down this ruthless assassin ("Fuck your parting words" afsdwkjld). And then what happened after Leila was revealed as the Savior, when they decide to go to his home. I honestly thought that the ending was just the end to another chapter and there would be another left. I turned the page and I was like, "Huh. So that's it then." I wasn't left feeling excited or looking forward to what happens next. I was disappointed and felt a little cheated. I spent all of this time following Tobias and Leila on their journey and I got nothing out of it, besides a forced romance. Also, I'm kinda just repeating myself here, but finding out that Leila is the Savior gives us some explanation for her behavior and actions, but now I wanna know wtf Cosima was for?? And why she was allowed to do that in the first place?? Like, I know Brontes wants to kill her, but why would Brontes let Cosima pretend to be the Savior. My guess is that Brontes would be able to kill Leila, the actual Savior, without creating chaos in the kingdom, but I don't know.

There is so much miscommunication/lack of communication in this story and I'm hte fuckign.There could've been so many questions answered throughout the book. I know I said Tobias has no right to know about Leila's plans, but she could've said something other than "it's complicated" or "you wouldn't understand." How many times did that happen?? Right when I thought we might learn something Leila would go on to say that Tobias couldn't find out, or something would come up and she would have to leave before she could tell him anything. This might've been able to work once, MAYBE twice, but it happened so often that I knew those kinds of scenes were useless and wouldn't provide us with anything, so it took whatever suspense was supposed to be there away.You could argue that because TSC is written in third person limited Tobias wouldn't know all of the secrets to the tournament and the government or whatever, but the way Jenna revealed things was so cheap. He suddenly gets an explanation from Leila at the very end, and Brontes and Kaleo capture him and tell him what their plan is. It would've been so much more interesting if Tobias took small things he learned here and there and pieced it together himself, or at least had some theories. Instead he focuses on Leila this, Leila that, why won't Leila tell me anything. All he does is brood and complain and it's so goddamn old.It kinda felt like the, "And then I woke up and realized it was all a dream" explanation.

I also really, really hate the way she treated her LGBT characters, aside from Dephi, she was decent. But she used the “kill you gays” trope. I’m not saying they needed to stay alive, I understand most of them were going to die, but she killed off one of them and then completely got rid of the other.

And then Kaleo. From what I can tell he’s bisexual.Which is obviously not a bad thing, but he wasn’t just a perv, he was disgusting and invasive, and even worse threatened to sexually assault assault Tobias, which feeds into the idea that bisexual people are just predators and want to fuck everything (Idk if I’m being clear about this hhh)

Hi, is it possible to request a sorting hat ship with nct dream, stray kids, and the boyz please?

I often come off as aloof and a bit distant because I have a hard time talking with others. I tend to keep my guard up, pay a lot of attention to my surroundings, and try to be careful with others feelings. I think I become too hesitant, in general, because I tend to be reminded of bad experiences. I’m cautious around others so it takes a lot of time for me to open up, I usually have a hard time sharing my worries and feelings. I have a lot of nervous energy, sometimes I might talk to myself but other times it can come out as doing things unintentionally which often makes me feel worse. Dealing with others can be tiring for me, so it is important for me to have some quiet time. I like to do little things for others such as helping them with something, giving them their favorite things, taking them to their favorite places, and sharing candy with them.

I work hard on becoming the best version of myself, I often improve myself through learning about new things and by being reflective of my actions. I also think it is important to take your time and have lots of experiences. But sometimes I can be a little too expecting of myself and others which can lead me to being upset that things didn’t work out how I hoped them to. Overall, I’m serious and meticulous when it comes to my work and what’s important to me. I notice that I have an easier time opening up to animals so I really enjoy spending time and chatting with them. I really care for them so I feel that they deserve the best treatment. I enjoy music whether just listening, playing an instrument, or a bit of singing. I also like to read, make crafts, collect plushies, and collect stationery. I hope I have given my description justice :D

To him, you’d be an enigma

There’d be times in class where he’d get lost in thought about the way that you’d look when you were writing in your stationary in the Hufflepuff common room

He gives me those types of vibes where he’d be an easy person to find comfort in and open up to

And oml his voice, how could you not get lost in every word of his response?

But you would find yourself in a really deep conversation with Felix after a while and it’d just feel natural for the both of you

You’d both find your nervousness fading away

And so Felix would ask if he could go with you the next time you’d go to Honeydukes alone

And then before you knew it, it would become a regular occurrence to go to Honeydukes, share some cauldron cakes, and talk about anything and everything

And you’d give him the nickname ‘Felix the Cat’ because of both his name and because of how it would be just as easy to open up to him as it was to talk to animals

And then he’d decide to ask you out on a real date after having the realization of just how lucky he was to be the one person you’d trust with all your secrets

And so he’d ask you to meet him in the astronomy tower

And he’d have a blanket laid down with a radio since he knew you liked music

And you’d just listen to music and look at the stars and it’d be so peaceful and relaxing

And to both of your surprise he’d stand up for you

And you’d both be blushing so hard after

But long story short to make up for it you’d bring him some licorice wands in class the next day to thank him because you had noticed that he’s always eating them

And that would lead to a thank you note on your desk the next day

And you’d get out your stationary and write him one back

And this would lead to letters back and forth delivered to each other in the Great Hall by your owls

And you’d both find it that it was a little easier to open up when it was on paper

And tbh this would go on until the Yule Ball before one of you finally made a move

You’d receive a box of candy from Honeydukes and a hippogriff plushie from your owl the next day with a note from New, asking you to be his date to the yule ball

And ofc you’d agree

So you’d end up going to the Yule Ball together and it’d be a bit awkward at first because talking in person is different than talking in letters

But eventually, New would decide that maybe a change of scenery would be better

So he’d take you outside of Hogwarts so you could sit alone together outside and enjoy the quiet

And within the quiet you’d find yourself wordlessly warming up to each other

And suddenly you’d blurt out something interesting that happened in Care & Keeping the previous day

And from there a conversation would burst out like you’d known each other for your whole lives

he’s all for the environment too, the studio is filled with a variety of recyclable bin from plastic to old garments. 

he works as a part time visual for a retail store, it’s only a couple hours three mornings a week when he doesn’t have class, it’s good to have some sort of income. plus they pay him well considering his major and eye for new campaigns.

Favorite thing about them:

Beowulf’s motif and his huge ass muscles because they’re goals. Also, the wolf pelt, definitely. Oh! Oh! And his happy-go-lucky attitude because my ass be having it too omfg.

His bravery is another thing, tbh, because he just straight up tells everyone on tv that his match was rigged because he knows he’s not really a hero. He’s the people’s hero. That was the reason in the first place why he got famous! To go in front of people and explain the situation knowing full well you might get back? That takes guts.

Least favorite thing about them:

The “Wrestler Bro” attitude sometimes. It’s fine, but the dudes at Lab Zero gave him a split “Does he think wrestling is real or…?” and “He says things you don’t expect in whispers.” in fights and it’s a wasted Easter egg Imo. The game makes him act and behave as though he’s rather dim-witted, which, cool because he’s a simple guy, but they also shoehorned Annie in to save his butt time to time and I dislike the sort of relationship they gave them both. 

It’s also been said behind the scenes Beowulf did take part of the nationalistic effort in the war. Now, granted, if that was the case? Why didn’t they expand upon this? If he was a soldier, I feel he should obviously be referenced too, if not, as it already seems Parasoul knew he was merely a political pawn, I feel Beowulf’s love of the Canopy Kingdom really should have been broadened on because it’s bad writing Imo that they left out these things in favor of highlighting Annie in his story mode.

Personally in my essay I wrote, I really am big on the Annie inclusion, but I feel that it took away from Beowulf’s true personality and potential. Why add in Beowulf being saved by Annie, if he was meant to destroy Grendel anyway via suplex? I feel if such was the case, have Annie take on Double in the first place after she swallows Beowulf into Gehenna and he takes on Marie Ala Squigly and Filia.

That said, the dimwittedness is rather bland to me. It’s obvious Beowulf’s intellect shouldn’t be the brunt of the joke, and the fanbase was even worse with his treatment, outright ignoring him or treating him as the butt-monkey of the cast because Annie or Minette wasn’t voted in and it really does tick me off. We could have really shown how Beowulf was obviously using the wrestler persona to grieve for Grendel. We really could have had Beowulf figuring out just how big the Medici Mafia is and him going after those who wronged him after beating Marie. 

We really lost out. And that’s my biggest pet peeve.

I’m actually okay with Beowulf and Ms. Victoria actually! I think they’d be so cute together, if anything because I use to think of me and my ex like that, hilariously enough. I.E: Beo is the sort of guy who would waste like 50$ on you at a carnival because he wants to get you the huge ass prize, but then on his last dollar, you take the shot, win it, and you give it to him and his eyes literally are just hearts.

Beowulf and Eliza (Realistically, she’s only gonna use him for his blood to get stronger. I feel like if anything, there’s nothing left of Eliza. So, at this point, you’re dealing with a real monster.)

random headcanon(s)

- Beowulf actually is really literate, and writes poetry time to time. However, no one would pay to see him go “To be or not to be… SUPLEXED”

- He likes to wear suede and you can find him walking and going about in his scarf and puffy jacket drinking hot tea and lattes because just loves winter months

- The Hurting actually is a sentient being and was given to Beowulf via his old sleazy manager Unferth (In the original tale, Unferth gives Beowulf the Hrunting, but beowulf is so strong, he breaks it.) yet it stays strong to this day. When Beowulf is alone, or when he’s really in a pinch, the Hurting opens up its maws and has long sharp fangs and monstrous tongue used to grapple opponents. Only Beowulf speaking to it can calm it down and turn back to an original chair. No one realizes a thing.

- Grendel’s arm hears EVERYTHING beowulf says, as Grendel is still alive through the arm. However, all it hears is Beowulf screaming his quotes so instead of coherent sentences its: “ALL’S CHAIR. RUNNING WILD. AWOO. I AM TWO HUNDRED–”

- Beowulf actually is a secret musical / Opera critic and is a big benefactor of the arts. He also shouts insults and screams very helpful messages to the actors. 

- When out of a job, Beowulf once took up a librarian job working in Filia’s school. Cue Ms. Victoria having to attend to students and him riding on the Janitor mobile and D. Violet secretly having a crush on him. He also bench pressed many a book case. I would know. I was one of the book cases. The kids later were the first ones to see him back in action with Ms. Victoria after he got back in the game, and they gave him a crude letter to him about being a hero and boy oh boy do I love Beowulf being kids’ hero like he was to me.

Unpopular opinion:

As the only male dude besides Big Band I feel he was purposefully thrown under the bus and really, there’s not enough porn or love for him. Much less, everyone seems to have like 2 intro animations, Beo has 1. I call favoritism but, anyway:

I think he doesn’t need a paring to shine as a hero. I think he needs to be shown more so people can realize just how awesome he really is, not with Annie saving his butt all the time so he can tout about wrestling being real.

Had he not shown up, we only would know about him via Peacock’s story mode with Andy Anvil saying he came out of retirement.

Give him love! He’s earned it!

And also like, I think he is as smart, if not, smarter than the rest of the cast, he just hides it under a veneer of being a pro wrestler. No one pays for WWE style entertainment in new meridian, they want real emotion, and that’s what Beowulf’s so used to. Because of that, he whispers and talks about things, but when you really think about them, they all have some meaning behind them, like when he calls Eliza the Crimson Scourge. I hate the idea that people think he’s a dumb dude because he’s not. Y’all just sleeping on a good character.
