In this seaside walled garden on a well-drained soil the annual Papaver rhoeas (field poppy) was flowering. The red flowers were contrasting with the larger, green seed-heads of Papaver somniferum (opium poppy).

I’ve been working outside in the mornings a bit. I’m going away for a week and don’t know how my little scene will change. Pretty sure the seed head won’t be there anymore. And it already has a friend. This is new for me and is going to be interesting continuing on if I choose too. Plein air painting is not my forte, but after a few mornings at it I have loved it! But boy is it hard. There is so much to see! So simplifying will be essential. And dealing with change. And little sweet things come up that slow my world down and make me smile. On my first little painting a I witnessed a bee bathe himself in pollen from a male zucchini blossom and then slumber onto a leaf to lounge. He was supposed to go visit a female blossom and deposit his load. No wonder I have only gotten two zucchini so far. Lazy bee 😏.
