Harvest Home Hexennacht & Wild Hunt: Happy Autumn Equinox
I don't participate in Wild Hunt activities because it's not actually a part of my practice. I barely even celebrate the Solstices and Equinoxes, honestly- and even then, what I do celebrate of them is really only to elevate HaShem and remind myself of its glory above all, as Creator and Sovereign of the Universe. I rarely actually have much that I feel is significantly practice oriented enough to really contribute to @msgraveyarddirt / @graveyarddirt's Solstice Squad activities as a result.
This year, though, I was busy when The Rents came due on September 1st and kind of forgot about them until the last minute because I was deep cleaning the Basement in early preparation for Rosh Hashanah. And so I didn't decorate on the first of Autumn like I usually do at seasonal shifts. I thought I'd take the time on the Equinox, then, to finish changing out my Summer Decorations for Autumn ones- even if it was a bit late.
Tumblr media
Earlier in the week the door got a new Autumn wreath; I left my Summer wreath on last year through the season, because I wasn't too happy with any of the choices; Autumn decorations and I usually just don't vibe. I'm a Spring Creature through and through.
When I saw this one at Lowe's this year, however, I knew it was it for me; I loved how big it was. I also loved all of the green leaves on it, and the variety of small Pumpkins. The Pinecones are a bit of a weird addition, though, since those are very much a Spring thing to me? But it's whatever.
It goes surprisingly well together and it looks cute on the door (which desperately needs to be repainted at this point, but it's not my house). And that's all that matters to me!
Tumblr media
And of course, since the Wreath went up, that means Pierre went out onto the stoop (then immediately got moved to the other side of the Breezeway where there was actually more room for him, ha); I still can't figure out why I love his stupid little face, but I do. I'm glad I invested in him instead of deciding not to like I almost did ... He just brings me so much joy every year.
This year I was actually able to pick him up and carry him up the stairs myself, even! A huge improvement in my strength, considering the bastard weighs about 30 pounds all on his own. Which is great, actually, because it means he doesn't blow away; a huge (and legitimate) issue I worry about with all the foam ones I always see for sale since the Breezeway gets so damned windy every year.
Tumblr media
Then yesterday after work, my Husband took me out to get the finishing touches for inside- a few items of which I'd already picked up earlier in the week when I chanced across them at WalGreens while grabbing myself some Tylenol: A giant white light-up Pumpkin, and two smaller Pumpkins (one Orange and one Red).
For the rest, I bought the fairly typical stuff that I've been buying for the Mantle for every seasonal shift so far: Some fake flowers to make an arrangement out of, a new autumnal vase for them, and a leaf garland to go across the bottom.
I actually wasn't too sure if I was going to like it when I was picking it out. But it came together surprisingly nicely; I keep finding myself staring at the Mantle now, ha.
I did all the decorating while listening to the second half of Friday Night Shabbat Service online. Then lit the Shabbat candles when everything was up and decorated, said some Prayers, and then sat down with 'God in the Wilderness' for a bit.
I also reflected last night on the fact that I've been trying to be more active in my Homemaking, my Gardening, and my Payer Routine again since Rosh Hashanah, during the Ten Days of Awe; I want that to be my Segula, to bring me back into a state of comfort, and remind me of what I love doing and where I flourish the most- even if the house feels a bit oppressive at moments.
I didn't do any riding. No baking was done (except my Husband's Birthday Cake much later in the night before bed). Nothing special was really had ... It was just a quiet Solstice night for me; much needed, honestly, given the chaos that's unfolding for the next few days, starting from today onwards.

Lag Sameach!
I'm flying in a few hours to visit my father in Baltimore. A plane is a strange place to be spending Lag BaOmer night, so high up in the sky that I won't even be able to smell the smoke that will be filling much Israel.
But I've got some downloaded Lag BaOmer classes, and printed up Rabbanit Yemima's segula booklet, and hope that even if I will be missing Lag Ba'Omer's smoke I will still be able to taste its spirit. Happy Lag BaOmer! Lag Sameach!

What Are Sigils:
Sigils are symbols that are used for a magickal purpose, while representing an intent, construct, or entity. The etymology of the word sigil comes from the Latin word “Sigillum” which was defined as a sign, mark, seal, or signet. It also may have been connected to the Hebrew word סגולה (segula) meaning word, action, charm, or talisman. It is also important to remember that there is a difference between symbols, and sigils, and as we see it not all symbols are sigils, but all sigils are a form of symbol. Symbols are simply constructs that are used to convey ideas, and beliefs, and sigils are symbols used for a magickal purpose, while also representing an intent, construct, or entity. Most of the time sigils are simply written glyphs that have a magickal purpose, but sigils can also be objects, sounds, or words that are unique, and organized in a specific way. Sigils take many different forms, and because of this can be quite versatile in the different ways in which they appear, and are used within magickal practices.
Sigils can be used in all different types of magick from simply manifesting your desires, to even summoning forth entities. These occult symbols have been used, and created by so many different types of practitioners of magick, and have evolved, and changed to suit their practices. Sigils can be used to improve your life in so many different ways, by manifesting desires that you have into it. Pretty much anything that has a probability of happening can be brought into your reality through the use of sigils, whether it be done spiritually, mentally, or physically. These sigils can be used to bring forth such things as protection, guidance, mental clarity, wealth, luck, prosperity, and abundance, along with many other things. They can even be used to boost certain aspects of your personal being, or to take away aspects that you do not find desirable. Sigils are powerful constructs that can help you achieve your desires, if you figure out how to use them properly, and effectively. The sky is really the limit to what you can bring forth into your life through the use of sigils.

I've been thinking over my "Homework Assignment" from my Rabbi, concerning Rosh Hashanah today ... I've been putting it off because of stress, but now a lot of that stress has been alleviated; a post from Challah.Mom on Instagram today reminded me that it's not too far away now and I really need to get into gear.
I celebrated last year as a Noahide, so my involvement was limited: A dip in the Sailboat Launch for my Mikveh. A prayer of dedication of myself to my Ancestors, and an embracing of my pathing. And an attempt at a Moon Meditation that was interrupted by a truck of people who gave us bad vibes.
This year, however, I will be celebrating it as a Jew-to-Be ... What does that look like to me? What traditions do I find meaningful and want to bring into my Jewish life moving forward? Who do I want to be as a Jew?
Despite the fact I know that none of these decisions are binding; that they don't have to be permanent, and I'll have my whole life to try things out and develop a rich and meaningful practice ... It all still feels so big right now. Especially since our "Homework" is thinking of (and performing) a Segula that represents this- which we'll actively discuss in class afterwards.
Tumblr media
I know I definitely want to do the immersion at the Loch again. That was such a powerful experience last year that I can't imagine not doing it again. I think this year, though, I'll do a Milk Bath before I go out there? Especially since it's traditional to fully bathe before dipping in a proper Mikveh- which I didn't know last year.
I love the idea of Taslich (alt). But I think if I did that, I'd probably want to use flower petals instead of the traditional bread that's used. Mostly because bread is horrible for the Ducks and Geese, and other wild fowl we have in abundance here; throwing Peas- which would be more appropriate for them- just doesn't give the vibe for me. I'm not sure flower petals really do, either, but they're at least not destructive and that feels important to me.
Performing Hatarat Nedarim in some way (likely "in the presence of" HaShem, Chava, and Adam, like so much of my Folk Magic has been modified to be done when it requires a tri-fold presence) also feels important to me.
I feel like performing Hatarat Nedarim and then Taslich at sunset, and then following that up with the ritual immersion in the Loch after sundown, would really elevate something that was already an incredibly powerful spiritual experience for me last year ... At least in theory, anyways. But I'll likely have to do it the second night of Rosh Hashanah celebrations this year because I'll be at Synagogue for the first night, and it'll be way late in the evening before we get out.
I haven't seen it anywhere else except for Chabad, but apparently there's also a tradition in some communities of lighting Candles both evenings. I love this idea, too, and can already think of so much symbolism inherent in it as a New Year's custom even though there really wasn't any actually listed for it.
Since it's also "the day the Earth was created", I really want to fold that into my own observance somehow ... But I'm not really sure how to do that at all; I don't feel like it'd be appropriate to fold in plants, or Adam and Chava, since both Plants (and the soil), and Humanity were all technically created later ... But Adam and Chava might make an appearance in my Yom Kippur celebrations afterwards?
On a related note: Since Rosh Hashanah's also the time when HaShem opens The Book of Life and begins inscribing names- with the sealing of names occurring on Yom Kippur ... I kind of like the idea of continuing to recite Unetaneh Tokef up until Yom Kippur, rather than only reciting it for Rosh Hashanah. I also like the idea of actually praying Amidah the full thrice daily during Rosh Hashanah and up until Yom Kippur, too. Especially since prayer is such an integral and powerful part of my personal practice ... But I don't actually know if I'd be able to sustain that? I may try and see how it goes, and if not then that's ok!
As for the Segula I'm tasked with figuring out and performing ... I genuinely have no idea still. I may not know until I actually get to that point. Or maybe my Segula will be celebrating at all. Who knows.
