name. being so exhausted that they faintly whisper the name of someone they trust as they are carried to bed.

Blue and purple hues washed over dimming sunlight, blanketing over Sel’s tan skin and raven-colored hair. Soft breaths escaped her lips, her head buried within her sleeves beside an unfinished arrangement of minced herbs at the dining table. She had been up early, before the sun even rose, and worked tirelessly with deliveries and last minute orders. Her eyes were so heavy that her ears sank with them, hearing only the soft ticking of the living room clock.

Tick. Tock.

Tick.

Tock.

The hollow sounds of the grandfather clock filling the room was a symbol—of calm, quiet, stillness. Truly a luxury, forever cherished and never taken for granted; and it rooted itself deeply within the slumbering miqo’te.

Before long, shuffles of slippers against the wooden floor approached Sel from behind; then a soft hand, brushing away the stray hairs that draped over her arm.

“My darling,” her beloved said with blue-green eyes taking note of her slumped stature. “Let’s get you to bed.”

She felt her body shift, lifted slowly from the wooden chair with arms wrapping around her. Her eyes remained shut, brows slightly furrowed, but she knew his scent. Knew his voice. She knew she was safe. Exhausted, but safe.

His name came as a whisper, “Seh...” and she folded her arms around him, head tucking against his skin as she was finally led away.
