Enemies in love

Warnings: If you had already checked out the first two, you know what to expect war, blood, swords, death, but still, you've been warned again.

If there was something the Shang family could do was to hold a grudge. You were the fourth generation since the Han family had usurped the throne from yours, in a war that left your family scarred forever, and left the magic users to hide themselves in fear of what could the new King do to them. Or at least they usually hid, as they got ready to war every few months for the next rebellion at hands of your family. You were also getting ready for it, but instead, it was the very first time you got to war. The purple and black clothing characteristic of your family was draped around your body, looking foreign to you who up until then had never wore them in military uniforms, only in dresses, as you were still a child, and a girl, so you couldn't wear the black pants and purple shirts the young boys wore.

But with your cape around your shoulders, and the militar uniform fitting right into you like you were meant to wear it. Yours didn't have medals as your siblings and cousins, who were older and fought more rebellions. But one day you would have them, one day those inherited medals would belong to you, or so you thought. For now you were content with being able to be by your family's side, fighting next to both peasants and your family, everyone coming together to finally get the Han dynasty down, and let people practice magic freely, without being punished or looked differently just because they had the gift of magic.

With your sword sheathed, you mounted your horse to battle, being right behind your family, in the multitude of the army wearing purple and black. The battle found you far too soon, as three days pass far too quickly when you know they might be your last. The first blood in your hands catch you by surprise, making you numb as shock seeps through your body, and for a few seconds you only become a machine invented for war, like a catapult could be.

Even though you knew wars came to kill or be killed, the concept of it is only real once you get the upper hand of someone and they end up dead by your sword. You're not sure how did you get to one of the many doors of the castle, neither how did you end up leading at least five warriors with you, but you do and you find yourself fighting at said door, but one of their people ends up stabbing their own kind on the back. Turns out, Sehun was not their kind, but had magic on his own, and the only way he could keep his family alive was becoming a warrior for the Han dynasty.

He didn't join you in your quest to kill the royals, as he still had to make it seem like he was on their side, but he had told you the fastest way to get to the throne room, and how many people were on the path. Six people reduced to only one by the time you got to the throne room, and there were more than five people inside the room, making your odds go down considerably. Though you didn't care, you had both magic and a sword, so you would be able to bring them down.

And you did, just as you expected, but the prince could only look at you in disgust from "cheating in duel" as she would say about using magic in a fight. But it wasn't until you got to the first steps of the throne that you did really see each other's faces. And when you saw her face, you knew right there you didn't want to kill the prince, and even if you were trying to usurp the throne, deep down she didn't want to kill you either. How could she, if even seeing your face made her question evil and kindness? How could evil have the face of an angel? Why did you have to try to kill her?

You were questioning yourself too, as you should want to kill her, after all she was part of the problem, they still oppressed those who had magic, yet you couldn't help but think that she was the most beautiful being in the kingdom, and you would gladly spend hours admiring her beauty. Yet, the show must go on, and you have to go on and fight with her, but maybe...

No, she was the first one to jump into action, not her father, and even less her mother, so you would have to fight her, even if you didn't want to.

But fighting wasn't that bad, you found out, as you had her close, and you could admire her from close. You could see from this close all her moles, how her deep brown eyes focused on you, and how she would subtly react to everything, and how would she grunt from exhaustion after a long while with both of you fighting, and no one wanting to give up, but neither wanting to give a fatal blow to the other. You knew that if you won, you would have to kill her, as you were there to do so, and also kill her parents, which you could do, but never harm a pretty face like hers. But you didn't want to die either, not when you were so close of getting what you want, what the people deserve, so you power through, trying your best to defend yourself, as you didn't want to hit her and risk her to be harmed.

It all came to an abrupt end when she had you against the wall with her sword on your throat. You're not sure how it happened, probably because you were daydreaming, or maybe a weak point you would have to train on, you're not sure, but suddenly she has your sword tossed to the side, and her family is long gone from the room, and you can see the end of your days coming, only if you allow it to happen. You touch her bicep, and by the firmness of it you guess she trained in swordfighting just as much as you did, so you weren't actually holding back but really fighting. Yet it doesn't matter, as you debilitate her arm holding the sword, which lowers each time more until you're free from her grasp.

She looks at you with fury, and almost like a second nature you chuckle, smirking as you see her raising the sword with the other, but you quickly take the blade from her.

"Did you think it'd be so easy, Prince Han? I am a witch, and no mortal can defeat me." You tell her, knowing that it was a lie, you could bleed and die like anyone else, your powers didn't prevent you from doing so, but she didn't know.

"I guess I will die trying then."

You wanted both to make that pretty face bleed and also want her to live, to live enough to make this part of your life, just to see her over and over again until your last breath.

"Well, if that's your wish..." You said tossing the sword to the side. "I'll give you a headstart, take your sword or throw you best hit."

Of course, Handong knew you still had the advantage of magic, so you could still easily win, yet she decided to take on the challenge. Strangely enough, you decided to not use magic, just took punches and gave your own, until you two were bruised and bloody. Yet, you took her two wrists with a hand, smirking at her in a way she was beginning to hate, and you looked at her in the eyes.

"Are you going to surrender, prince? Or are you going to keep fighting?" You questioned her, infuriating her further.

"I had a sword against your throat, you shall be the one surrendering." She spat with fury.

But you almost didn't hear her, as you were looking at her bloody lower lip, wanting nothing more than to kiss her. It was amazing how she could be so stunningly beautiful even like that, and it seemed like she was the one who possessed magic, as you seemed bewitched by her beauty.

"Is that the Prince's desire? For me to surrender?" You asked with mocking surprise. "But surrendering means I will be imprisoned... So I won't ever surrender, I'll fight until the throne is mine."

You couldn't stop yourself from pressing the wound on her lip, dirtying your thumb with her blood, yet you made a vertical line over your own lips, claiming her as yours. It was no magic, but it was deep rooted in your culture for lovers to do that, as a signal that they wouldn't kiss no other lips than their lovers, and in a way, it might be even more serious than marriage. But no, you didn't do it in that way, you perverted your own culture to claim stake in a woman that would be married off to someone else as an alliance, you were claiming as yours to the very same girl you should be killing, all for a strange whim your heart had upon seeing her. For her, that signal was a threat, a threat of one day dying at your hands, but she never knew when.

You let her go, deciding that it was enough for the time being, that if you kept yourself there, you would have to either kiss her or kill her, and you weren't ready for either, so you grabbed her sword and pointed at her, as if you were about to go against her once again.

"But I shall grant you mercy this time."

With that, you turned into smoke, deep black smoke like the corridors of the castle when the night crept in, with no moonlight at sight, and the smoke moved quickly, leaving Handong alone, who only took the sword you left, looking at the design so different to the ones they always used on the kingdom. She weighed it, seeing how it was lighter than hers, and while she moved it around she realized that it was probably better than hers, yet she was the one who won. The prince chuckled, thinking that it was just a warning, but decided to keep the sword to remember her first battle, thinking that in the rush you had mistaken it by yours, or quickly grabbed the nearest sword.

But you were riding home, catching onto the retreating army, with people cheering you for being close to killing the royals, even if you didn't succeed.

What neither of you expected was for either of you to not be able to take the other out of your heads. It didn't matter that you were trying to kill her, and either that she would have killed you if it came to it, as dueling was like dancing with swords, and you danced with the enemy, not wanting anything more than to get the next opportunity where you would be able to do it again.
