Why are swifties constantly comparing her to black artists? I mean, Gaga, Britney and Madonna are literally right there. Do they feel a little racist and try to diminish black icons by putting their goth punk billionaire cult leader above them? I wouldn’t exclude that. Performance wise, she’s up there on Selena Gomez’s level. I guess that’s why they’re friends after all:
1. Both can’t sing, dance and act;
2. Both have a chronic case of victim complex;
3. It seems like both of them are functioning alcoholics. I can’t say that for sure, just assuming based on Selena’s earlier drinking history and Swift’s current denial despite being seen with a drink in hand after concerts and her being seemingly drunk at every event she’d attended lately;
4. Both seem to be narcissistic;
5. Their so-called ‘friendship’ is more transactional than real.
Out of all the Disney girls of her generation, she’s the least talented one yet arguably the most successful. Make it make sense.
no wonder they are best friends lol

I feel the same way about Beyoncé as anon does about Taylor swift. Like you’re way too famous, and way too rich, and your fans love you and you’re gonna have money for forever, it won’t hurt your career to speak out. Especially when you use prominent figures of the black panther party, who support the liberation of Palestine, in your work. It’s frustrating.
I feel the exact same way as well! Towards Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Selena Gomez. All of them. In the case of Beyonce, as much as I respect a lot of what her work represents, there are many aspects of things she has done that I've questioned because they're just unethical and problematic.
I never faulted her for the things she said about feminism beforehand -especially when she embraced the term later and, like you said, her homage to the Black Panthers during her performance. She does have the same if not more power than Swift that can influence culture and creates conversations, but at the end of the day they work within the US's imperialistic and capitalistic machine, and no amount of 'being a feminist symbol or icon,' can erase the damages they have done or continue to do.

i keep thinking about celebs bandmate y/n would be besties with and a few come to mind
austin butler
timothee chalamet
florence pugh
lizzo
ariana grande
anya taylor joy
simu liu
emilia clarke
sophie turner
gemme chan
claire devlin
the weekend
selena gomez
jaz sinclair
ross lynch
megan thee stallion
steve lacy
mac miller
paul mescal
phoebe bridgers
daisy edgar jones
zendaya
and i think she'd be close with billie and see her as a little sister she has to protect in the music industry
and i think some of her all time besties would be mac miller, theyd be such a good platonic duo, ariana grande especially during the mourning of mac i feel like y/n would be there for her through all of it.
MEGANNNN THEYD BE SO UNSTOPABBLE they give the vibes of like megans on stage and she invites y/n UP AHHH
AND LIZZO!!! i can totally see them making songs together and just hanging out and lizzo bringing out a diff side to her
emilia clarke and y/n would be the most wholesome duo in this world
ZENDAYA AND YNNN the type of friendship people make them "8 minutes of yn and zendaya being the most iconic duo ever"
and omg out of everyone i can see her being such good friends with jaz like that type of friendship everyone wants and naturally yn becomes friends with ross and shes just such a third wheel to them AHHH
fuuuuun ok ok
She and Florence Pugh are absolute besties from being in Little Women together to her work in Don't Worry Darling. During filming for LW, they would hang out together outside of filming and YN even made it on an episode of Flo's Kitchen. They honestly did more dancing, laughing, and drinking than they did cooking.
This also goes for Timothee Chalamet from filming LW. They had really good, natural chemistry from filming that they were bound to become close friends. Not to mention how fun their promo interviews were for the film. And she may or may not have been given an invite to be in Call Me By Your Name sequel.
Lizzo is a given seeing how close she is with Harry. YN often jokes about she's the third wheel between the three of them. When she and Lizzo are in a room together (at a show, in the studio, etc.) they're always laughing and cracking jokes. And Watch Out For The Big Grrrls? YN was a guest to perform with Lizzo at Bonnaroo with her own core tour dance crew consisting of females ranging from different colors, shapes, and sizes.
Being besties with The Weeknd is another obvious choice from the number of songs they've collaborated with and spent countless hours in the studio making music and talking about anything and everything. Whenever they get the chance, they'll have each other as a surprise guest at one of their shows. Although he had nothing to worry about, this friendship in particular makes Harry feel the kind of jealousy from when they were in the band together.
Megan Thee Stallion and YN have such a fun friendship. From what you mentioned about the two of them, all I can see is YN dancing along in the wings of the stage to Thot Shit. Then Megan quickly goes over to grab her hand and pulls on stage. So while Megan holds her hand and continues to rap, YN has her back to the audience, moving her hips seductively as she slowly lowers herself down. She even looks over her shoulder and takes a sip from her see-through, neon green cup as she does it.
Oh my gosh and Mac Miller and Ari?! YN played cupid and was the one to introduce them to one another. And you best believe she was by Ari's side during his mourning. She lost a very good friend and she made sure she was there by Ari's side for whatever she needed.
It's all about connections, right? It's not what you know but who you know? So after meeting Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar Jones at one fancy event, they immediately got along. So when working at the studio one day with Phoebe Bridgers, she played cupid for the second time and introduced her to Paul.
And with Daisy, YN was introduced to Sebastian Stan when they filmed Fresh. She was really grateful for all of her media training because she kept her cool instead of fangirling like she wanted to (if only she knew that he felt the same way). Both of their managers and agents may or may not have gotten in touch for a possible movie together...
Through Sebastian, YN was able to meet the bundle of sunshine that is Simu Liu. Simy treats her like the little British sister he never had. They don't see each other that often, but it's all smiles and witty jokes when they catch each other on a red carpet.

Cruella de Vil — VoicePlay music video
youtube
As part of the promotion for the Diamond Edition release of 101 Dalmatians on Blu-ray, Disney asked VoicePlay to create their own version of one of the most iconic villain songs in animated history. As always, their creativity and playfulness shine through. Plus, there's an adorable dog in the video.
Details:
title: Cruella de Vil
original performer: Bill Lee as Roger Radcliffe in Disney's 101 Dalmatians (1961)
written by: George Bruns & Mel Leven
arranged by: VoicePlay
release date: 26 January 2015
My favorite bits:
snackappella percussion, the drums you can consume
Eli's buttery smooth melody, and the lovely harmonies to go along with it
inserting the dog bark on the beat as punctuation
Layne half-turning in concern each time one of the other guys touches his shoulder
✨ ♫ "daaah-ling" ♫ ✨
the groovy breakdown section, particularly Geoff's little slides between long, deep tones
Layne spitting bars while still providing beatboxing moments, and ending on that deep ingressive
ramping up into the pseudo-electronic section, which never fails to impress me
the pupper finally getting some snuggles on the couch from dog lover Earl
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
The dalmatian featured in the video was a very good girl named Callie.
Since the video is on the official Disney YouTube channel, the guys made sure to build anticipation for it on their own social media.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An excerpt from the ending of this arrangement was later included in VoicePlay's "Aca Top 10 — Disney villains" countdown.
Tony and Layne later wrote an original PattyCake song for Cruella called "Born Bad", inspired by the live-action prequel.
On the 101 Dalmatians Diamond Edition Blu-ray itself, this song was covered in a more power pop style by Disney Channel star Selena Gomez.

MTV VMAs 2023:
The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards celebrated the past and embraced the future in a memorable ceremony. The event honored pop icons Shakira and Diddy for their significant contributions to the music world and paid tribute to the rich 50-year history of hip-hop. It also showcased emerging artists from around the globe.
Shakira was the recipient of the prestigious Video Vanguard Award, and her performance covered her illustrious career, highlighting the evolution of Latin pop music. This was a fitting choice for an awards show that introduced Colombian reggaeton sensation Karol G and Peso Pluma, a talented 24-year-old artist from Guadalajara, Mexico, whose music blends regional Mexican, reggaeton, and hip-hop influences from his upbringing.
The VMAs also showcased diverse international genres, including the thriving Afrobeats from West Africa and the global sensation of K-pop. Nigerian singer Rema and Selena Gomez were honored with the first-ever Afrobeats award for their hit “Calm Down,” which recently achieved a remarkable billion streams on Spotify. South Korean boy band Tomorrow X Together and Brazilian pop star Anitta presented their new collaboration, “Back for More.”
Additionally, the event featured special appearances by ‘N Sync, Ashanti, Timbaland, and Nelly Furtado.

Teasers
In the teaser for AM 2 PM, the girls leave the club they were at in B.O.Y laughing as they walk out.
Across the street, in an abandoned parking lot, a circle of cars with their headlight on create a spotlight on the crews of dancers in the middle dancing against each other.
“What’s going on over there?” Juno asked. The girls tried to look around standing on their toes to get more height to no avail. “We’re not gonna find out by standing here.” Aurora starts forward but the other three girls grab her, pulling the youngest back in place.
“I think we should dress properly before going over there.” Moxy points to the costume shop next door to where they stand with a smirk. The girls pile into the shop.
When the door closes, the frosted door displays “AM 2 PM Album and MV Release Dec 2nd”
Outfits
During the video, AG uses three outfits. One for the performance video. One for steady cam and one for the actual music video shoot
Performance Version: The girls wore white, black and purple. Juno wore a purple hoodie with white jeans and black sneakers. Hannah wore a long sleeve dress with black knee highs and white boots. Aurora wore a white shirt with a purple paisley jacket, black pants and white sneakers. Moxy wore a purple cargo pants, a white top with a black long sleeve underneath
Music Video: These outfits were old school velour tracksuits (a la Cheetah Girls) with headbands in the girls signature colors.
Steady Cam: The girls wore classic 2000’s matching outfits. Each outfit, once again was in the girls signature colors. The girls all wore white cropped shirts with a sprout icon on the front. They all wore leather shorts and knee high combat boots. Over it, they had long sleeve plaid shirts. On the backs of the shirts, they said the girls' names and a number (Like Dreamies jackets in Deja Vu). Moxy=31. Hannah=99. Juno=18. Aurora=03.
Music Video(s)
The video starts with the teaser as it was shot. The girls enter the costume shop and begin picking outfits to wear
For a couple of seconds the members try on several different costumes. All of them are rejected. Moxy suggests all black. Hannah comes out in a swimsuit (“It's cold outside!! We ain't wearing that!”). Aurora in the Black Parade suits (MCR) and Juno in a dress similar to Posh Spice. Every look is rejected, until the shopkeeper leads the girls to the back room where four outfits live on mannequins. The girls look at the outfits, then each other before shouting, “We’ll take em’!”
AG walks into the shot, in their new outfits, crossing the street to where the circle of cars are. The girls take turns climbing to the top of a truck to see what's going on. What meets their eyes are different crews of dancers battling each other. The girls get called out by the winning team. They tried to refuse but the leader of the winning crew says that they're scared. And we all know AG ain’t never scared. So they march their way to the front.
The song starts and with it the coolest dance battle to be filmed (after you got served and the beginning of Stomp the Yard). The girls pulled out all the moves to beat the crew in front of them.
In the part of the video with the girls battle dancing, these dances are separate from the actual choreography. The only parts of the official choreo used is the chorus at the end of the song.
The rest of the video incorporated videos of the performance video, steady cam footage, and the footage of the dance battles.
In the end, the girls ‘win’ by taking the bucket hat from the leader of the opposing crew, causing the disruption to dissipate. The girls celebrate their win by dancing with all the dancers. The song replays as the credits roll
BTS
The albums looked like time machines. The were modeled after the time machine boxes that SM used for Resonance Pt.1
The PASTtime version was colored gold while the FUTUREtime version was silver. In the PASTtime version, the girls were dressed in outfits that resemble their past title track costumes but better. For example, the stylist took the SLAP outfits and upgraded them like the ones they wore for Emergency.
Nobody understood what a Timeline was until their albums arrived. A Timeline was a booklet filled with pictures of the girls through the years until the present time. Juno’s was the most sought after because her Timeline included photos of herself scanned from her scrapbook
AM 2 PM maintains the energy of B.O.Y while infusing 2000’s pop and hip/hip influences.
GO! was recorded during the girls pre-debut period. Go was one of the four songs considered as a title track for Time Of Day: Dawn. When it came to discussing the songs added to Time Of Day, the girls made a request to bring one of these tracks out of the vault and Go was chosen as the strongest.
Many fans questioned SM for switching GO! for Something Like A Party as AG’s debut track. Thus fueling the fire of those fans who think AG would be further along if they had debuted with a stronger song.
For Liberty Walk, Hannah sat down with one of Label V’s writers once again to pen the lyrics for the song. With their help, Hannah was able to write an empowering song about leaving a harmful relationship
AG was preparing for the repackage during B.O.Y promotions. Once the video was released fans recognized every time the girls spoiled the dance, lyrics or melody in any of their videos
The worst time was during the vlive they did after MAMA. Juno outright sang a bit of the chorus which sent all the girls into stitches.
The girls did a countdown live where they talked about the new tracks on the album. On the show, Aurora talked about GO
“GO'' was the first song we ever recorded as a group of four. Way before we were given Something Like A Party, we recorded GO. Personally I liked GO better than Something Like A Party. I was one of the first to vote for GO being added to the tracklist.”
“With this album being about acknowledging our past but moving to the future, we wanted to give our fans a gift in the form of songs we’ve recorded before. People may not know but when your favorite albums are made, dozens of songs are considered for the tracklist. When they don’t fit, they sit on hardrives until they do. There’s probably even more songs we could release that we recorded before Time Of Day: Dawn.” Moxy added
AM 2 PM reached 16 million views in 24 hours. The fastest AG video to reach this number since Breakout. Breakout reached 10 million views in 24 hours.
The girls promoted AM 2 PM for only one week this time because of packed schedules. They did win three times at music shows.
Liberty Walk was chosen as the lead b-side. Fans loved the combination of the two songs. While AM 2 PM is a dance song, Liberty Walk is an empowerment song. In terms of dance, Liberty Walk is a formation heavy dance with roundoff’s galore.
The AM 2 PM dance was inspired by 2000’s female dance choreographies. Specifically Case Of The Ex by Mya and anything by Aaliyah.
During the reaction, the girls were all screaming to express their cringe at the partner dance in the second chorus. In 127’s reaction, all the boys were mad at how close the male dancers got to their girls, whining that they didn’t have to touch that much
A couple members of dream were strangely quiet during the partner dance section *cough Renjun, Chenle, Mark and Haechan cough*
The AG channel released many videos during promotions. The one video that garnered a TON of views was the GO! track video. It was revealed that GO! wasn’t just a song considered for the title track. SM actually had the girls film half a music video for this song before scrapping it for SLAP.
Regardless fans loved seeing mini AG dance their hearts out in the old clips that were edited in
In the BTS of the video shoot, Moxy revealed that her partner was a friend from SOPA who was majoring in dance.
The girl filmed a ton of #AM2PMChallenge videos with the idols in attendance at MAMA. Moxy shot one with I.N and Felix from Stray Kids. Aurora shot on with Junghwan and Doyoung from Treasure. Hannah and Chaeyoung from Itzy filmed together.
The one that garnered the most comments was Juno and Haruto’s version. After seeing the two hug each other at MAMA, netizens were wondering where the closeness came from.
Even though the promotions were short, the girls reassured NCTzens that bigger things were coming on the horizon that they should prepare for.
For the new years eve concert, The girls performed five songs: B.O.Y, AM 2 PM, Breakout!, Do It Like This and Cannonball
Right after a section of AG performances, A video was played. In the video were various clips of the members of AG arguing at a meeting room table.
“I think we need to have two cover sections. One for girl groups and one for boy groups.”
“I want to start the ****** with Breakout. It's our biggest song. It makes sense to send the fans home with that song.”
“Is everyone ready with their song covers?” “We all have one cover and one solo right?”
“We should kick off with Cannonball.” “I actually wanted to use Cannonball during the last section.”
“Can we see the costume sketches again?”
“What’s the word on pyro. Can we have pyro in the venue.”
“****** ****, **********, **** ****, ******, and **** **. I think those are the songs we wanna use for one of the cover sections.”
The video ends with Hannah voice saying, “I think that's enough for today.” and fades to a black screen. In the corner in typewriter font, the words “AG Presents, Coming Soon”

help bae i think i might have gone overboard with choosing songs for the ask game <//3
beauty and a beat - justin bieber stickwityou - the pussycat dolls complicated - avril lavigne burnin' up - jonas brothers good girls go bad - cobra starship i kissed a girl - katy perry replay - iyaz only girl - rihanna starships - nicki minaj love you like a love song - selena gomez we are never ever getting back together - taylor swift eenie meenie - sean kingston, justin bieber airplanes - b.o.b. your love is my drug - kesha
FAE 😭😭 THE WAY U HAD TO APOLOGIZE IN MY DMS, TOO?? HELP
beauty and the beast definitely reminds me of jaemin!! it not only suits him, but have u seen him perform this?? iconic tbh
taehyung definitley vibes to stickwitu 😭😭 he pulls out the old man dance moves and sways side to side as he lipsyncs
complicated just screams beomgyu omg <3 like just think about him and his emo look during the loser lover phase?? yeah this song literally Is him
BURNIN UP AND SUNGHOON OMG??? ive said this before, but opposites attract trope and sunghoon just go hand in hand 🙏 and this song is literally that
ngl this one was sorta hard? but i sorta just had the image of frat boy johnny jamming out to good girls go bad in his jeep and it's stuck with me now so,,,
ngl this song reminds me of me ryujin 😭😭 (idk her sexuality and this is not me speculating on it or anything btw) i think she just suits the vibe of this song? and the song is sorta sassy (?) with the lyrics and stuff, and plus, as a bisexual 😍😍 ryujin <3
MARK LEE 💀 he unironically listened to replay by iyaz back when he was in canada and thought he was so cool (to be fair, he was 🙈). like yk the pictures he took in the mirror when he was like 10? that mark lee was listening to replay
TAEHYUN <3 okay but i do have reasoning (surprisingly). for starters, i think that he would be the type of person to feel this way about his s/o <3 and also, he is just literally the only man ever (main slayer taehyun)
MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS JUNGKOOK?? he was the kid in middle school who learned the rap in starships and kept singing it in the hallways, i rest my case
jungwon 🤭🤭 giggling and kicking my feet rn. him and his boba eyes just suit love you like a love song :( especially the bridge like??? tbh i think selena gomez wrote this about jungwon
my main man yeonjun <3 we r never ever getting back together is so like sarcastic and gives off a certain confidence that only yeonjun can have tbh. i want him to cover this song now ngl,,,
this was hard ngl 😭 but i have decided on jake 🧍‍♂️ this song is smth that he listened to daily back in australia. i can just picture him screaming "eenie meenie miney mo lova"
beomgyu and yeonjun bc of this tiktok that's been stuck in my head. it compared their blue and purple hair to the meme of mordecai and twilight,,,
ur love is my drug, especially the chorus, reminds me of like a relationship with heeseung?? not comparing him to a drug, but like the vibe is giving me older boy rockstar puppy love (if that makes sense at all)
send me an ask with a 2000s song and i'll give you an idol !!

How Underground Bhangra Is Taking Over The Music Scene
Bhangra music, a wave of music based on traditional Punjabi music, became popular in many Euro-centric and North American countries over the past couple of decades.
Numerous iconic Bhangra performers and groups, like Alaap, Heera, Malkit Singh, Apna Sangeet, DCS, Safri Boys, The Sahotas, Punjabi MC, and countless others, have their roots in the USA.
However, North American-born Bhangra is much more than just a genre of music. As many bands and musicians assert, the music was made to support the preservation of identity and culture.
South Asian populations in North America now consider this music to be a part of their identity and culture. Its peak popularity was between the 1980s and 2000.
North American Bhangra music acted almost as a thread between the two cultures. Music specifically allows individuals to create both their individual and collective identities. However, today it has developed into a form of music that people of various ethnicities can enjoy.
Bhangra for A Multicultural Audience
While preserving many of its classic sounds, contemporary bhangra continues to represent the cultural diversity seen in the North American bhangra music movement. Numerous well-known US artists have also found success with bhangra music, most notably Jay-Z in a 2002 remix of Punjabi MC’s “Mundian To Bach Ke.” Bhangra-inspired songs by Missy Elliott (“Get Your Freak On”), Selena Gomez (“Come and Get It”), and Pras of the Fugees all received positive reviews or reached the top of the charts.
Additionally, bhangra dance culture, which was traditionally a male-dominated art form, has seen more female participation. Men and women now perform together in modern bhangra, and at competitions, all-female bhangra teams have occasionally performed as well. Sarina Jain, a female dancer, helped establish bhangra as a form of fitness with her Masala Bhangra workout program.
Overall, Bhangra has now become a cultural art fit for people of all ethnicities, irrespective of their understanding of the Indian language and traditions. At En Karma, we aspire to help bridge these cultural differences by creating Bhangra music that caters to audiences of every ethnicity.
Whether you are an American hearing Bhangra music for the first time or an Indian looking to keep in touch with your cultural music, En Karma’s power-packed Punjabi beats are perfect for you!

EDM's Impact on Music 2018-2023
Tumblr media
Has the genre finally made itself fully mainstream?
Electronic Dance Music, commonly referred to as EDM, has been a transformative force in the music industry for decades. However, over the past five years, its influence on pop culture has reached unprecedented levels. This article delves into the effects of modern EDM on the musical landscape, shedding light on how this genre has reshaped trends, produced cross-genre collaborations, and broadened the very definition of popular music.
1. The Rise of EDM Sub-genres and Their Influence
In the past, EDM was largely classified into a few mainstream sub-genres, such as trance, house, and techno. However, the past five years have seen the emergence and popularization of numerous sub-genres, each adding a unique flavor to the musical landscape:
Future Bass: This genre, characterized by its euphoric drops and melodic synthesizers, has permeated the charts. Artists like Flume and The Chainsmokers have taken cues from this style, blending it seamlessly with pop lyrics and structures.
Tropical House: Acts like Kygo have popularized this breezy, laid-back variant of house music. Its summery and chilled vibes have made it a favorite on radio playlists.
Psytrance: This trance sub-genre with its fast-paced beats has seen mainstream popularity with tracks from artists such as Vini Vici and collaborations with pop icons like Armin van Buuren.
2. EDM’s Role in Festival Culture
Music festivals have traditionally celebrated a diverse range of genres. However, EDM-focused festivals like Tomorrowland, Ultra, and Electric Daisy Carnival have witnessed skyrocketing attendance. These festivals are not just music events; they've become cultural phenomena, influencing fashion, vernacular, and even mainstream media coverage. Their larger-than-life stage setups, light shows, and immersive experiences have set new standards for concert experiences.
3. Cross-genre Collaborations
One of the most telling signs of EDM's influence is the increasing number of collaborations between EDM producers and artists from other genres:
Pop stars like Dua Lipa and Selena Gomez have teamed up with producers like Calvin Harris and Marshmello, respectively.
Hip-hop and EDM have intertwined in tracks from artists such as Skrillex and A$AP Rocky.
Even rock bands like Coldplay have not remained untouched, as evidenced by their collaboration with The Chainsmokers on "Something Just Like This."
4. The Digitization and Democratization of Music Production
EDM’s rise has coincided with advancements in digital music production. Softwares like FL Studio and Ableton have made it easier for budding producers to experiment from their bedrooms. Platforms like SoundCloud have allowed them to share their creations with the world. This has led to an explosion of creativity and has paved the way for previously unknown artists to chart their course to stardom.
5. EDM’s Impact on Music Consumption Patterns
With streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music becoming dominant, the traditional album format has evolved. EDM artists often release singles or short EPs, capitalizing on the playlist culture. This change has influenced even non-EDM artists to shift towards releasing more singles and fewer albums.
6. Reimagining Live Performances
EDM artists have raised the bar for live performances. With advancements in technology, their shows have become a synesthetic experience, integrating visuals, lasers, and pyrotechnics. These elements, once exclusive to EDM concerts, are now expectations at mainstream pop events.
7. Addressing Social Issues
Artists like Avicii and Steve Aoki have used their platforms to address pressing societal issues, from mental health to political activism. The music and its accompanying videos often serve as commentaries on contemporary challenges, proving that EDM is not just about the beat but also about the message.
Conclusion
In the ever-evolving world of music, genres come and go, with only a few leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of pop culture. Over the past five years, EDM has not only established its presence but also reshaped the very contours of popular music. From its influence on the digital realm to its seamless amalgamation with other genres, EDM’s impact is vast, varied, and undeniable. As we move forward, it's evident that the echoes of its bass drops and synthesizer melodies will continue to reverberate through the annals of pop culture.

Natalia Trevino Amaro: When Fashion Meets Fanbase
When it comes to fashion and music, the synergetic relationship between the two has a long-running history. 23-year-old fashion designer Natalia Trevino Amaro bridges the two and the fashion needs of Taylor Swift fans awaiting to attend one of the dates of the singer’s The Eras Tour.
Owner of a brand named after herself, Natalia started her business in June of 2020 after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. As she was living with her parents in Indiana during the early stages of lockdown, Natalia found herself struggling with the lack of work opportunities available in her field at the time – “I figured I’d just start making clothes and selling them since I had nothing else to lose; fast forward almost three years later and it’s my full-time job.”
Tumblr media
Now, alongside her own original designs, Natalia is selling custom pieces to Swifties (Taylor Swift fans). “Like a lot of other businesses, I was hit hard with inflation and had very little sales through the second half of 2022; I started making custom pieces for fans in December”. Knowing she’d be making her own custom outfit for Swift’s tour, Natalia documented the creative process and uploaded it to TikTok. “I was honestly looking for any sort of sale at this point because things weren’t looking great for me. Luckily the TikTok I made hit the right audience and I was able to take in custom orders!”.
Though making custom pieces for fans is “more of a one-time thing” for Natalia, she is open to making more custom outfits for people in the future, no matter the occasion. “If I had to choose another fanbase to make customs for, I’d love to do it for Harries! Harry Styles’ fans have a fun sense of style at concerts so it would be super fun to make outfits for that!”.
Tumblr media
As previously mentioned, selling customs to Taylor Swift fans has brought exposure to Natalia’s original pieces: “My personal designs hadn’t been doing too well prior [to selling customs], so I’m okay with letting that fall behind for a couple of months as making custom orders for fans is the majority of my work right now”. This said, she is trying to find a healthy balance between the two, lowering the number of custom orders she is accepting to bring her original work back into the production mix – “I do want to make sure people remember that I’m, a fashion designer first, not just someone who will recreate other people’s looks.”
A self-proclaimed Swiftie “since the beginning”, Natalia assures to be 100% of a fan girl, which is “so fun because you get to connect with so many people who love the same music that you do which is really special”. “I’d say [Taylor Swift] is the artist I most fangirl over, but I also love Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus, who I also feel I ‘grew up’ with”, whilst as of more recently she has also become a “huge Harry Styles fan”. Though fan culture hasn’t necessarily impacted her work in terms of style, “it has definitely helped get my creative juices flowing again after being in a creative rut for a couple of months.”
Tumblr media
According to Natalia, fashion is crucial to the music industry: “Most artists are known not just for the music they put out, but for their entire ‘artist image’ […] Clothes speak for themselves and as much as a performance can be incredibly memorable, sometimes having that ‘reveal’ moment of wearing something show-stopping can really make it 10 times more memorable for years to come”. And of course, when she thinks ‘fashion icon’ in music, Natalia thinks of Lady Gaga – “I grew up seeing her wear so many ‘controversial’ outfits and pushing the boundaries of fashion; you never knew what she’d show up in. That really stayed with me and I still view her in that light”.
To keep up with Natalia and browse through her collection, you can check out her socials and website below.

Week 9
1. What are your thoughts on the evolution of depictions of Supernatural Powers in young women?
I think it is inspiring and quite refreshing to see so many depictions of supernatural powers positively bestowed upon young women in the media today. I think it is very reflective of the times and the generational shift that begun in the 90s. It is quite clear that prior to the 90s that the thought of women with powers was a scary though, specifically for men. Women with powers were depicted negatively or as a joke. I think this has to do with power and religion in American during these times. Prior to the 90s, most families throughout America were regular church goers and a large percentage of them were Christians of some sort. It is no secret that religion has been used as a way for men and higher up officials to hold power over people, specifically women, since colonists stole the land here. If you think back to the Salem Witch Trials the women executed were not witches, they were given this title so people would fear them and so that women were easier to control, if you acted in a way that was not proper in the eyes of the church you were automatically a witch.
Tumblr media
2. How is magical power related to adolescence?
I think magical power relates heavily to the notion that a child can be whatever they want to be when they grow up some day. Magic makes everything seem possible and that is exactly what a kid needs to learn in adolescence. Children need to be reminded that it is okay to think outside the box and that it is okay to be different. The concept of magical power promotes individuality and the idea that the world is what you decide to make it. So often kids are told from a young age what they can can't do and who they should and shouldn't be, the depictions of magical powers in media address that and show that it is okay to break free from those confinements.
Tumblr media
3. What impact does the depiction of magic and the sense of agency it represents have on real girls and young women in this era of emerging teenage girl leadership?
For the first time in a long time girls and young women are being depicted as all powerful beings. There is nothing more inspiring than rooting for a fellow girl on a show and following her journey as she unlocks all the powers within herself. It shows young girls that they are capable of doing anything they set their minds to and shows first hand all the amazing things that can happen when women are leaders. The girls of this generation are being shown that they are in control of their destiny and are more powerful than any man. We just need to support each other and look deep within ourselves. Women are a sisterhood, and when we all work together that is where the true magic begins.
Tumblr media
4. Are you aware of additional girl icons with magical powers? Please share in your post with images.
I grew up watching Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney Channel starring Selena Gomez. As a young girl, I looked at Selena's character Alex as a role model. In the show, she is the only girl sibling out of her two brothers. The series chronicles their journey on who will become the family wizard and take their other siblings power for themselves. In the beginning of the series, Alex is constantly putting herself down and repeatedly states that she will never win and become the family wizard. As the show progresses, we see her journey of self love and self confidence grow until the series finale when we she finally wins and becomes the all powerful wizard. Selena Gomez is also fierce advocator for mental health awareness, is an LGBTQ alley, and has spoken of women's reproductive rights in real life. She has detailed many of her own mental health struggles within her music.
Tumblr media
5. Do you see a correlation between the career opportunities of these young women performers, the roles they have played,  and their evolution as feminists?
People are chosen for parts because in some form or another they embody that role in a way that is successful. All of these women, share traits with the characters they have played, and i'm sure have brought a bit of themselves into the characters to make them more believable. Their evolutions into becoming feminists are not coincidental, these women spent years playing powerful women because they are powerful women. They had the platform to speak on issues that not many other women have and did which is inspiring and took courage. It's also important to note many female celebrities often face hardships, scrutiny, and injustice because they are women in the film/television industries, these injustices make even more crucial for them to speak up on matters that are important.
