“I’m wearing a thrifted shirt, some pants I made, and my lion. His name is Bombo. I thrifted him in Chicago and ended up putting a strap on him so I could take him everywhere. I was in love with the fact that he didn't have a function other than being a stuffed animal and decided not to make him into a bag until recently when I needed him as a carry-on for a flight. What inspires my style is lots of patterns and colors and anthropomorphism. I started making my own clothes when I couldn't find much of what I wanted to wear in stores or what I did find was super expensive. I just want to create something beautiful and sentimental.”

Here are some photos of the Amok Time Spirk cosplay I made for me and my friend for a convention!

obligatory spirk pic (we took a lot of very cute photos I have a whole folder in my phone)

It was quite a process honestly. We bought shirts from a thrift store and I altered them to be tight fitting. Then we added the black collar, which was very much eyeballing it but I think it turned out pretty good. We had to put some stealth safety pins in it to wear it though, so that the collar would fit snug to the neck (we couldn’t make them smaller because yk your head has to fit through). The rank stripes are giftwrap and glue lol but honestly they look really accurate (makes me wonder if they didn’t just do the same thing back in the 60s tbh). The insignias we also made ourselves. We cut them out on white fabric and sprayed it with gold spray and then I printed and cut out a stencil and did the black lines with marker.

Also, the most stressful moment in my entire sewing experience had to be cutting the slit into the Kirk uniform. All that work and i just have to cut into it. You better believe I measured and tried it over twenty times before cutting. Also I took a lot of photos before so I’d have something if I ruined it lol

Btw I stuck two pieces of bandaid on the inside at the ends of the slit to prevent it from ripping further.

“The vibe for this outfit was godly and renewed. I made the hakama pants. I’m also a big fan of taking it easy on the environment therefore I do a lot of thrifting. The shirt and lace shawl (curtain) were both thrift finds. The hat is something a crafted using peals and paper flowers. Since I knew I was attending a music festival I knew that comfort was a must so opted for my bone color Balenciaga’s. My style is inspired by a strong sense of self, thrift finds, and phenomenal people on TikTok.”

This. THIS. This is the best thing I have ever made. If I show you anything it’s going to be this. A Victorian waistcoat, tailored to my body perfectly without a pattern or a sewing doll, literally the epitome of gender euphoria. God, I love this thing so much.

Ok, ok let me ramble a bit on why I love this so much please.

-gender: Victorian men are gender. Victorian men in their shirtsleeves are gender as fuck. as you can see I am somehow completely flat in this. I am not wearing a binder. That was not planned. This waistcoat just loves me.

-✨craftsmanship✨: I am literally so proud of this can you tell? Again, no one believed I could do this and that is the best motivation to get me to do something. I made the pattern myself, by pinning some scrap fabric to myself wearing an undershirt and drawing on lines and then sewing a rough mock-up, which I then altered for several weeks until it was perfect. Then traced the pattern onto the actual fabric. This also has red satin(like) lining on the inside, which means I basically made it twice and then sewed both pieces together. The fabric covered buttons I also made myself.

-I just literally always wanted to own something like that and I could never find anything close. This is why I love sewing. I love sewing so so much. Because I can dream of it and then I can just make it.
