Thinking about those aus where what people say about you is written on your skin... Where what they will say about you is written on your skin...

Izuku who is born with "useless" and "quirkless freak" right next to "number one hero" and "symbol of hope" and he has no idea what to make of it, no idea how to show anyone without being accused of writing the latter in himself, ("pathetic"), and he just slowly traces "my boy" over and over while he tries to push through.

Touya who was born with "Dabi" curled behind his neck, with "villain" and "murderer" that he burns away while clinging to those "big brother", "son", "my hero" until he burns away those too.

Rei with "mom" scrawled along one thigh and "that woman" on the other, who smiles and hopes and hopes and hopes that this marriage offer means the first and not the other, until she can't hope anymore and breaks.

Eri with sweet nicknames and compliments and heroic praise around her arm, and then it's taken and warped and scars left covering them all, until only "cursed" is left untouched.

Oboro who always talked about how strange "Kurogiri" was to have around his ankle when he and his friends shared their weirdest ones and laughed, and then fifteen years later Shouta hears the name again and his heart stops.

Thinking about your au where people have the words said about them on their skin, and just. Todoroki must have “kind person”, and when he was little Rei would look at it (and some of his other nice words) and smile and tell him that whoever called him that was absolutely right, but then after she snaps & is hospitalized he starts thinking it must be wrong (hm. Wonder if he has “unbearable” or “looks like him”. This has become angstier than originally planned um anyways) until Midoriya calls him a kind person at the internships and he just. Oh. He genuinely means it, and maybe Todoroki doesn’t think of himself as a kind person just yet, but he’s starting to hope that maybe he could be.

Oh and what if he has “precious friend”…I don’t imagine he had a lot of friends before ua, so I bet he’s conflicted about that too…I doubt he sees himself as someone who will have time for friends, between endvr wanting him to surpass all might and later his own desire to surpass endvr without using his fire, so before the sports festival he thinks it’s probably some sort of joke, but after the sports festival (& especially after the stain fight) he can’t help but hope that maybe it’s not a joke, that maybe his friendship really does mean that much to someone…

He probably also has “class 1-A pretty boy” (I can’t remember if he was called exactly that in canon but I think the girls called him something similar) & again he probably thinks it’s a joke lmao

(I love Todoroki & want him to have nice words 🥺…but now I’m thinking about angsty words he could have and the sad connotations that could come with even nice words lmao whoops)

This au is one that turns to angst so quickly yeah...

And it's true! You don't know the tone that the words are said in- "precious friend" could be a bitter classmate being sarcastic after a group project gone sour, something that caught on to mock. "Problem child" could be a genuine insult, a refusal of compassion to the victim of the problems instead of the perpetrator. "Pretty boy" - someone mocking him inheriting his mother's slight features, which he sees as a blessing, and the scar that covers his face? He's got "not him" but he's also got so many comparisons to Endeavor...

Oh yes. Izuku shucks off his shirt sometimes during the worst of the beach training, and Toshinori knows it's impolite to deliberately stare but he sees "Nine" and "Symbol of Hope" first and he's filled with pride for him- then around those, he realizes it doesn't just stop at "quirkless" and "stupid" like he has. It doesn't even stop at things like his "blonde oaf" and others that he attributes to AfO and other villains that hate him. He knows izuku will have such words on him from villains too, because he knows he'll be a good hero- but "the reject", "stupid Deku", "quirkless freak", "pathetic nerd"- those aren't from future adversaries.

Those are from current ones, and it doesn't make him happy at all.

Growing up with "seagull boy" on you with no explanation of why would be so funny lol like Izuku's never known why it's there, he looked into seagulls once he was old enough to read, but like they never caught his interest? He never cared enough to be a seagull nerd like he did a hero nerd, so why would someone insult him with that? (Of course he assumes it's an insult)

Honestly he probably should have had a suspicion once All Might asked him to clean a beach, but well, not like he thinks about that one much compared to the others

I just checked out your eternal names au (sorry but the actual name is Hard To Spell) and like. Are the names that people give others after their death also present on their skin? The One for All holders die and go to the mindscape-quirk abyss-throne room and realise what various stuff written meant

I feel like generally the answer is "no being called that after your death doesn't mark you" but there are exceptions:

- people who die and become nomu

- and people who die but become vestiges
