it’s the amount of time and energy and care that they put into their relationship. it’s valtteri coming into mercedes knowing he’s on a one year contract, knowing the garage is so divided, knowing in the way that every other driver on the grid last year knew what happened with nico and lewis but also didn’t know. it's lewis coming from the shitshow that was brocedes and not caring about val - that one this or that video where he was asked jenson or val and he went 'i dont care' to waxing poetry about valtteri whenever he gets the chance.
it’s val waiting on his car to congratulate lewis in silverstone. it's brazil 2021 and lewis saying to tell val that we can get them !! it's jeddah 2021 and val's 'i think me and lewis may be the best teammates in formula one' and the way val watches lewis when he's sitting down, exhausted, and asks if he's ok and gives him space. it’s lewis nearly missing the podium in baku 2018 to say sorry to val and tell him that the win should've been his.
it's 'in this picture, lewis was trying to kiss me, it was a really confusing moment' and 'this is an interesting picture because i wasn't sure if valtteri wanted to kiss me or not'. it’s writing love letters on main and zooming in on val’s face and posting this in front of your 23 million followers. it's 'he's the best teammate i've ever had'. it’s 'you’re greater than you know'. it’s the 'dream team. thank you lewis'. it’s val giving lewis aesthetic nudes of his bare ass in front of everyone and looking at him Like That bc they’re not like the other girls and they swap nudes as well as helmets. it's 'not that i don't already have something to remember you by'. it’s the way lewis is so careful about the space around him but will push into val’s space without even thinking about it and val will throw his arm around lewis and lewis won’t even blink. it’s the casual easiness. it's the being each other's safe space in this insane sport. it's the playing video games together during the delayed quali of the italian gp 2017 and lewis being a sore loser over val beating him. it's the way valtteri melts when lewis talks to him, goes all blushing and flustered and 🥰☺️. it's sharing flights. it's valtteri posting pictures of roscoe on his story and not lewis. it's the way they gravitate towards each other, even when they're not teammates. it's 'we're starting side by side, it's pretty cool. i just saw him and we were both smiling. it should be fun. if somebody had told me in bahrain we're going to be starting side by side with lewis, i'd take it'. it's 'valtteri has just been a great teammate'. it's 'when i can't win the title, i want lewis to win it'. it's years of hearing lewis sing and talk to himself through the motorhome walls. it's val saying that he told lewis he was a better driver than he was. it's lewis absolutely losing his shit and giggling so much he nearly falls off his chair while valtteri tries to explain why he knows exactly how long a beaver's dick is.
it is ofc the parallels and narrative foils of coffee being one of val’s greatest loves and one of the things lewis hates most in this world. it’s lewis ‘coffee doesn't taste good though does it’ hamilton and valtteri ‘i need to give you good coffee’ bottas and valewis 'we've had coffees between races travelled a lot together' like. shut the fuck up

one of my least favorite old hollywood takes (which is perpetuated mostly old people and stupid men) is the idea that cary grant was some kind of ultimate manly man. i think its true that a lot of masculinity at the time was influenced by cary grant and men like him, undoubtedly, but it really strikes me as odd that he's now this picture to the conservatives of what masculinity looked like when the world was "good." its ironic really, considering for a good chunk of his career and life, grant was hounded and harassed about his sexuality by his contemporaries. i don't think its right that they should get to choose him as this ideal man when the world they want wasn't habitable for him either.
i don't really like gene kelly. i've tried and i think what he did was neat and all but yeah. no gene kelly for me
citizen kane is not the greatest movie of all time. the godfather (is that still old hollywood?) is not the greatest movie of all time. i'm not saying they're not good movies - they're amazing and what they contributed to film history shouldn't ever be forgotten or discounted in any way - but there are other great movies out there. the first time i watched citizen kane, one of the reviews i read was 'well, it's no citizen kane' and i think that nicely sums up that

☕️ While The Last Jedi was objectively terrible, they definitely made things worse by trying to retcon things in its' sequel. Either stick to your guns or don't make such drastic decisions in the first damn place.
Oh absolutely. TLJ is very flawed as a movie, but if TROS had stuck with that direction, I could at least respect the vision. But Lucasfilm was clearly so insecure by the negative reaction (gee, I wonder why that happened, geniuses 💀) that they overcorrected.
They changed Luke to be closer to how he should’ve been as a mentor...this is incoherent given that there's no reason for him acting as callous as he did last movie, and also no reason for him suddenly changing again. Luke has never been a mercurial character, so why is he now??
They wrote Rose out completely. I just...*sighs* I've heard she was more prominent in early versions of the story (this video shows some concept art from one of the official books that talks about some of the early story ideas), and as the plot changed, so did her presence...but it's very telling that her plotline got cut.
Same for Finn, by the way—apparently he and Rose shared a plotline initially. And now, he's reduced to comic relief. Well, at least they're keeping him consistent with TLJ, which also didn't care about him 💀
And of course...Poe. Who could forget what they did to Poe. Making a Latino character a Spice Runner (spice being drugs in Star Wars) is...a choice. Also...wow, he had a girlfriend before? Wowww
(I'm not gonna get in the weeds about conspiracies but uh...Oscar Isaac's words about Disney not liking him and John Boyega playing up the Finnpoe flirting do come to mind.)
They even retconned Rey! Now, granted, I didn't love the idea of her not being related to anyone (it makes the payoffs in TFA feel cheap—they were very clearly setting her up as a Skywalker/Solo even as early as the trailers), but I had at least gotten used to it by the time TROS released. But then they made it worse! For no reason!
And Kylo *sighs* TLJ firmly shut the door on Rey/Kylo, a choice i was cheering about...and then TROS decided to have Kylo die for Rey*...and then they kiss??
I just...*sighs* at least if they'd made them cousins or siblings, alluded to them having a past where they loved each other and knew each other so well, I could understand why Rey would feel any affection towards him (not romance ofc—that angle was a bad idea with the movies being as they are, especially given that time he tortured her and they never even talked about it later). But as it stands?? Nope. They even try to retcon this as a "gratitude kiss" in the novelization. I just can't even.
*clumsily paralleling him to Vader, but this fails because Rey and Kylo's relationship is not nearly as strong as Vader and Luke's was, especially since Kylo literally rejected her offer of redemption last time and also she closed the door on him! And also, Kylo has never had compelling/interesting motivations for turning to the Dark Side, nor did he ever have the gravitas Vader did. It's all just...ugh
The Palpatine stuff...well, we all know that's terrible. It's not like they even needed to bring him back, even after killing Snoke (DOTF had him present as holograms, with Kylo as the Final Boss)...but hey, if they wanted to redeem Kylo, they needed a big bad to contrast him with. But the whole thing was a giant mess from start to finish. You can even see in some scenes how tired the actors are. And I don’t blame them…watching the movie itself was exhausting.

Okay so first, unpopular tumblr opinion: I don’t think everyone renting out a space is irredeemable scum of the earth. I think, however counterintuitive it seems, there can be ethical renting. My last apartment was the basement of a family home and my rent paid for their kids’ daycare (presumably with a little extra but honestly probably not much).
But mostly I want to close them in a refrigerator box, attach it to a bungee cord, and dribble them in and out of a vat of Gatorade until they are thoroughly miserable and sticky and have wet cardboard stuck all over them.
I think renting should be like most businesses where you want to price at a point that covers overhead and provides a little padding both for unexpected shocks and for reinvestment/profit. Where I think it gets evil is both the implication (and somewhat societally-adopted view) that a landlord is somehow giving you something and you are beholden to them and the use of that to coerce people into giving up huge chunks of their income for a basic human right.
To my mind, the duty on a tenant is exactly what it says in your lease and absolutely no more. Pay your rent* and don’t be a super destructive/harmful asshole and that’s…basically it**. But there gets to be this pervasive feeling that a tenant is subservient to a landlord and consequently owes them not only the legal obligations set forth in their lease but also unending patience, flexibility, and other material or service provisions. That’s bullshit.
A lease is a contract that imposes duties on both parties and in all US states (except I think Alabama??) that includes provisions like maintaining the space in good repair, prompt and appropriate maintenance, and, at least in some cases, a quiet and respectful environment. Your landlord agrees and is legally bound to uphold those rights or face financial and legal penalties.
Ironically, to me, the law is for once often on the side of tenants but most people are disempowered to act on that through both lack of information and widespread, malignant social coercion.
If you think about it terms of employment, you get paid for services rendered/goods delivered. Your landlord gets paid for maintaining the unit, dealing with maintenance and repairs, and other services as detailed in your lease (& your local bill of rights and/or housing code). If an employee fails to complete the responsibilities outlined in their job description, they get fired. Why should your landlord get any greater consideration?
Now, if we want to talk about Property Management Companies, I may need a longer post, a bottle of wine, and either a flamethrower or many cans of spray paint.
*evictions are actually just evil. Like it might be slightly more nuanced than that but not really. Fuck evictions

characters forced to take on a name from a predecessor post... got me thinkin of clone Shep now

rhrfgjkdhk there's a reason I'm tumblr user ezrisdax here and rcdimusprime on my other blog because I relate too much to characters suddenly forced into a legacy/name from a predecessor and living with it.
but like it's tragic!! it's just the whole ghost haunting you thing and even worse if you didn't know the person properly and also somehow kinda do? And absolutely for clone Shep in that regard the previous person is put on this unreachable pedestal that you're always aiming for. And if you try to live up to them in some way then you're told you can't and if you don't try at all you're told you're wasting the name. (I'm forever haunted by Garak saying Jadzia was 'vital and alive. she owned herself' to Ezri okay, you just know clone Shep hearing that would have them rampaging)
it's always a no win scenario for characters like that. clone Shep was doomed from the beginning for several reasons and that's just one of them. Even if they'd got the Normandy off the ground somehow you know they'd tear themself apart still trying to live up to Shepard regardless; people would tell them they seem different and that little remark would drive them to do dangerous things in an attempt to prove they were the better Shepard.
also there's just the identity aspect: who are you if you're trying to live up to someone else's ideals? What line do you draw between them and yourself and how far will you go to push that to others. There's this one line in dark matter when a character finds out they're a copy of someone else "I don't know how to put it into words but her existence somehow diminishes me. I'm a lesser version of someone else. A diluted imperfect facsimile." which I think really sums up the struggle for these types of characters and how they view themselves.
And that's not even getting into how fandom perceives said characters because hoo boy they'll always be the replacement for a better character in their eyes. And sometimes that's valid! And the reason the character was changed in the first place is unfair (*cough*jadzia*cough*) but man is it hard for that character to win any place in fandom eyes too.

☕️ imo Seonwoo maybe just went into the house wanting the attention and just tried to keep his options open. Do you think Seonwoo really liked Sungho or it was a bit of competitiveness with Junsung?
I don’t think any of them went in with insincere intentions, like I don’t think anyone went in not looking to engage with the show’s aim, I think they all sincerely went in looking to form a relationship, including seonwoo. And I do think he liked sungho, but not in a sense that gave me impression they’d make a good couple, bc I don’t think they necessarily fit together, I think it was just more important for him to realise that he can’t base people off first impressions, and that he isn’t in control of his feelings, bc sungho isn’t someone he ever thought he’d be attracted to and yet he was, and I think the realisation that he can be open to more people and just go with his feelings is an important one. idk what he’s deal is with junseong, idk if he did like him too, I don’t think he ever pursued sungho just for the competition of it all, I think junseong holds a lot of attributes he doesn’t, his confidence and faith in his own feelings and his ability to show them, bc ultimately his inability to communicate his feelings is what meant he lost his chance with sungho. the most rewarding thing from his relationship with the two and the situation he was in was finding out things about himself he never knew, and I’m glad he can reflect on and learn from that, but I do think he still has this thing about everyone liking him, and the thing is people really do, he doesn’t need to try so hard or be so messy about it, but when it comes to sungho, I think he couldn’t share his feelings half bc he doesn’t have the bravery to and half bc he wasn’t ready to commit, and it’s only after the fact he realised what his true feelings were. it’s bittersweet, and he is still messy, but at least I feel like he’s still growing, and realising that you can still grow even in your 30s is a great first step to make.

☕️ Stony through the MCU?
Oh a juicy one, anon. I'm here for it.
So, I guess I should preface this with the acknowledgement that I came into the MCU rather late - like, pre-IW era - and that I had no previous attachments to any other version of Steve and Tony before meeting them through the movies. I feel like I should say this because I think this is one of the reasons MCU Stony hits for me while, for many comics!Stony fans, it falls flat. I came in without any expectations of how I'd like their relationship to be, and without much understanding of how it could be.
When speaking about Stony as a relationship, the question of them being or not being friends is often central. Because Steve and Tony are best friends in the comics, but they're really not in the movies. In fact, I think at a certain point, it's not unfair to question if they were ever friends at all, in the traditional sense. While they weren't always antagonistic towards each other, they also often weren't far from being that, either. Steve and Tony are built as very different characters who embody contrasting virtues - Steve represents an ideal, Tony represents the possibility to evolve through change; Steve embodies the past, Tony embodies the future.
Those differences are present in nearly every interaction they have, which, combined with the added backstory of Tony's father neglecting his own son to obsessed over Steve, creates a constant underlining tension that to me is just. so. good. They clash and mix in the wrong ways, misjudging and repelling each other, and yet. To me anyone who says they hate each other misunderstood the assignement, because there's so much respect and admiration in the way they talk to and about each other to others. And it's fascinating to me that all that doesn't translate into a smooth, comfortable friendship like Steve's with Natasha, or Tony's with Bruce.
To me it makes the few moments of honest conection between them - the end of AoU, their small exchange in the bunker in CW before it all goes to hell, Tony giving Steve the shield back in Endgame - all the more precious, because we know they're so fragile. They're tentative, hesitant. And yet, the desire for conection, the desire to reach an understading, is still undeniably there. That thread that connects them is so frail and yet so strong that, every time Steve and Tony exist in the same movie, their storylines are paralleling each other - most often through direct clashing, but also through more subtle theming as well. Tony's ending is making the choice Steve made forty years ago. Steve's ending is living the life Tony suggested he tried out. There's echoes of them all over their character's stories, essences. I find it beautiful, fascinating.
And I understand why others might not! It's still a very messy relationship, arguably with many more negative moments than positive ones, which is a sharp contrast to the stronger bond they have in other mediums. But in my time in fandom, I've found that it's the one interaction that truly appeals to me the most. Maybe I would have still shipped it if they became BFFs after Avengers (2012) and everyone lived together in the tower, who knows? But I was deeply touched by what we got instead, and I really, really appreciate it.

BABY I LOVE THEM. I am a sparkle bitch by nature so this time of year I go hog wild. I have tinsel garlands and rainbow lights in my windows, a color changing white tree up, a lil snoopy robot who dances and plays the trombone, most of this was up by mid-November.
But apart from this general report, here are some of my decorating hot takes
Lawn blow ups are bullshit and look like saggy spent Christmas condoms during the day when they’re not inflated
Plastic sculptures or bust baby
I have no beef with artificial vs natural trees, but if you’re going artificial go ARTIFICIAL. pink tinsel needles. Iridescent blue. White and color changing lights for those who are truly paragons of taste
Rainbow lights over white lights for interior and exterior decorating
I hate these new LED lights they really hurt my eyes sometimes, I wish it was easier to find those crappy classics
Rainbow icicle lights are my favorite
No one commits to mistletoe anymore and I wish they would
Poinsettias are a little sinister somehow, they are flowers that are leaves and leaves that are flowers and they make me subtly nervous

I have a lil nativity village up, my feelings on faith continue to be sort of evolving and mixed as far as the son of god of it all goes, but I do feel the teaching of Jesus were radical and badass, so it’s worth celebrating that. Also I have mixed up the various folks from this strange Italian nativity set so that the goose girl and the busty redhead lady are together and in love, and busty redhead lady’s male companion is obviously in love with the camel herder, as they both have staff thingies. I didn’t mean for that to be sexual but literally in this moment I’m realizing it is. Hehhehehe.

☕️ + crazy ex girlfriend’s 4th season
I think overall I like season 4 as a concluding season for the show, certainly compared to a lot of other concluding seasons of shows I love it does a better job at what it sets out to do and that makes me I think more inclined to be generous with it (I’m used to really really hating the conclusions of things I love tbh because they can go so wrong, so when something is decent I think I’m easier on it than I would be if the same thing was in an earlier installment). I overall like what the season does with concluding Rebecca’s arc, there are places where I think it could be stronger (particularly the aspect of the season that’s supposed to be about Rebecca confronting her own privilege/white feminism doesn’t succeed as much as it thinks it does imo, but that also is part of the largest overall issue I have with the season which I’ll get into later) but other parts I think it succeeds with beautifully (I love the arc with Rebecca and her little brother, the final scenes with her mom this season, the realizations she comes to in the finale etc.), and I think Paula’s arc comes to a basically flawless conclusion.
My biggest gripe with the season is in the treatment of WoC in the season. Particularly Valencia and Heather’s (who would be my second and third favorite chars on the show after Rebecca respectively) character arcs are so neglected compared to Rebecca Paula’s even Darryl’s even NATHANIEL’s and it makes me sad
:(. I’ve talked about this before but I really don’t care for the writers decision to treat Valencia’s sexuality in such a throwaway way rather than being willing to explore her feelings about it the way they did with Darryl. Her and Beth’s storyline being all about Valencia wanting to get married… it just does not work for me at all. I’ve seen justifications that the reason the writers approach Valencia differently is that she’s a different character who wouldn’t be into coming out with a song the way a character like Darryl would but like, these are written characters the writers are making those decisions… and there are so many ways you can explore a character’s sexuality that are unique to the character, that just seems like such a lame excuse to me. I have more unfavorable things to say about this take but I don’t want to get off topic, basically I feel like Valencia was majorly cheated out of her own arc in s4 and it is my biggest sticking point with the season, ngl partly because Valencia’s a character I actually identified with quite a bit so there’s bias at play there too even if I stand by my reactions. I don’t have a rant for Heather the way I do for Valencia but if I’d rewatched more recently I definitely would, some of the issues with Heather’s storyline do stem from the end of s3 (I sort of wish the surrogacy storyline had never happened). Even though I did like Paula’s storyline re: the women in the prison Rebecca was at those storylines had a lot of problems. And I think seeing how much room the writers were willing to give Nathaniel’s arc and place in the narrative vs Valencia and Heather was also really disheartening to me, and I don’t particularly like Nathaniel so that does effect my relationship with those choices but I think even if I had much more of an affinity for his character than I do, it would still be revealing of the writers priorities to me and not in a good way.
I don’t mind the meta-ness of the season but that’s probably because I’m more inclined to like that type of humor than a lot of people, I get why others had complaints about it. Idk what else I have to say about the season really? The songs aren’t as good as earlier seasons but the ones that slap (particularly Love’s A Game and Hello Nice To Meet You) were bangers imo. oh and I LOVE the Halloween episode, it actually has many beats designed specifically for my enjoyment and unlike many other episodes I did like Valencia and Heather’s roles in it a lot.

☕ plumbers please?
Context: I’ve been having a Really Shit Plumbing Experience for the past 5 weeks.
In general I am pro-plumber. My parents are intensely DIY folks (as in they built their current house and have done extensive remodeling and repair work on their past house and family members’ homes) but always say that for plumbing and electricity, you call an expert*. Consequently I grew up with a heavy dose of respect toward them, and as part of my tendency to be taken for A Sweet Young Girl, tend to have older plumbers be very friendly and chatty with me. THAT SAID I am currently about one more condescending remark away from starting a fistfight with the next plumber to tell me “it’s hard to track a leak” while acting like I’m a child. Will I win? No, but they will lose.
*this is sort of a lie bc my parents will also DIY rather a lot of plumbing issues themselves and my dad and grandpa did all the wiring in our house (admittedly upside down) but anyway

I am only. a plumber.

☕️ fan made AUs and fanfics that intersect with canon

If that means "follows canon with some own stuff sprinkled in" I love it.
I never was a fan of fanfictions that like pulled out every main character out of the canon to insert the own OC instead, but I loved it if the OC managed to go along with the canon that we see, being like: Oh my OC was at another location so they "weren't on screen" so to speak, or they were standing slightly to the left but they helped during that scene.
At least they shouldn't take major achievements completely away from the other characters.
I saw this often enough with OCs that were clearly just there to be a love interest and then took away everything from all female OCs that happened to be around to push them into the spotlight instead.
If I got what you mean completely wrong, feel free to correct me with another ask please!

☕️i want to hear you talk about ezri <3 anything and everything (if you want something specific, what would you change about her character in ds9 then?)

ezri is the character that I literally love above all other characters in media. like I've got my own issues and project on her too much but how can you not love her?? honestly, she's trying her best to deal with everything that's been dumped on her including eight past lives, the grief of everyone around her, she's sarcastic and done with things, she doesn't really have a firm grasp on what she'll be but by god is she trying anyone. if anyone knows how hard it is to feel like a replacement to someone who was so important to people it's me and jesus she does a lot better job than I did.
specifically though if I was writing ds9 I'd want more interactions with her sisko where he's playing the mentor to her. like their dynamic where they go from mentor (curzon) to friend (jadzia) to mentor (sisko) is so fascinating to me and I wish we got more of it that then the first three eps of ds9.
also the julian romance. god help me I'd burn that to the fucking ground anon. and not for fucking g*rashir to happen, I'd want it to be focused on ezri as a character exploring how she deals with things with the influence of what came before her.
