They don’t talk about it.

Not after Ava emerges from a shower that was far too cold and far too long. Not as they prepare dinner together, dancing and shifting around each other smoothly in the tiny kitchen. Not later that night, when Bea finishes her usual circuit of checking the door and windows are locked and all the lights are off and crawls into bed next to Ava. They don’t talk about it, about Bea’s hand in Ava’s hair and Bea’s breath against Ava’s lips, but when Bea rolls onto her side and reaches for Ava in the darkness, Ava goes willingly, curling herself into Bea’s arms without a word.

Ava’s behaving. She’s not pushing. But in the dark, in their bed, where they can each cry after a nightmare without judgement, the normal rules don’t apply. Ava loosens her self-imposed restriction on touching – not a ban, because she simply wouldn’t survive that, but an awareness of how much and how often – and Beatrice reaches for comfort more easily, loosens her grip on her composure in favour of solace.

They don’t talk about it in the morning either, but that’s less because they’re avoiding it and more because they both, once again, jerk awake to find Lilith glowering at them from the foot of their bed.

“Lilith, I swear to god…” Ava groans, turning to bury her head back into her pillow, only to realise that her pillow had been Bea’s shoulder, and Bea has moved out of range.

“I was invited this time. Beatrice asked for supplies,” Lilith says, innocent tone belied by the smirk that’s revealed when Bea flicks her bedside lamp on, because it’s early enough that it’s still dark outside.

“I meant for them to be delivered at a slightly less obnoxious time,” Bea says, frowning at Lilith as she props herself up on her elbows. She hadn’t gone for her knife this time, mostly because it took her long enough to disentangle herself from Ava that she’d had time to identify Lilith as the figure leering at them in the dark.

“I must have got my time zones mixed up.”

“We’re in the same fucking time zone, you—”

“Language.”

Ava’s going to Halo blast her. It’s going to happen.

Anidala is definitely one of the most annoying ship to be completely obsessed with because there’s so many fucking fics under the ao3 tag and yet I can’t find anything to read, because people keep tagging them on stories where they’re a very background relationship.

The characterization of Sabo is just so perfect in this???? The thing is that in canon, Sabo doesn’t end up having to choose between his nobility and being a revolutionary, mostly because his ties to his nobility are already cut by his amnesia, but also because he has no reason to remain a noble in the first place beyond the leverage they try to hold over him. Sabo as a world noble however Cannot leave his situation because it is the way he is the most useful to the revolutionaries.

Also their deconstruction of the way the world nobles operate and how they choose successors among the nobles is excellent. The fact that they actively look for those who are able to see outside of the conditioning they have applied to their children to have them lead and uphold their corrupt institution is so interesting?? Not to mention Sabo’s entire struggle between his morality and his nobility and how in this he is surrounded by a scenario that makes it all the harder to uphold his morality and how there are times when he does actually feel the need to make Imu or the elders proud and just ughhghshdghsdgjsdg

I love everything about this fic and I wish there were more of it lmao I went on a spree after this fic of looking for more sabo-centric fics that placed him in an inescapable position as a noble but nothing hits quite as hard as this fic
