@seneca-zero replied to your photo “Month of Mesozoic Mammals #26: Crunch Time”
Wasn't it featured in walking with dinosaurs? Damn did they got it wrong.
WWD depicted Didelphodon as a sort of tasmanian-devil-like creature, which at the time was a reasonable interpretation. But obviously ~20 years later a lot of its content will have ended up outdated or wrong thanks to newer discoveries -- Utahraptor’s another good example!

author interview! I was tagged by @mamsellefreeman and @energievie thank you friends!
1. how many works do you have on AO3?
28! how is it that many!
2. what’s your total AO3 word count?
168,919 what the fuck how did that happen?!
3. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
problem solved it's dissolved (TOG, Book of Nile, Explicit — my very first explicit fic ever!)
Imagine Your Dessert Platter (MCU, SamSteve, Teen)
My Bags are Packed (I'm Not Ready to Go) (TOG, Nile & Booker, Teen)
I See Your Eyes Seek a Distant Shore (TOG, Book of Nile, Explicit)
Seneca Falls, Selma, and Stonewall (MCU, Stucky with what I now realize is tragically under-written Sam/Nat, Teen)
4. do you respond to comments? why or why not?
Yes, every time! I treasure every comment. It brings me a lot of joy to leave comments on other people's fics and it genuinely fucking warms my heart to hear that my fic touched someone, whether that's a keysmash or an emoji or a copy-paste of a favorite line or a whole-ass book report or threats on my life for making them feel things or fuck I just love comments so much. I've made friends through comment threads on TOG fics, mine and other people's, and FUCK I TREASURE COMMENT CONVERSATIONS SO MUCH
5. what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I'm pretty allergic to angst and when I do manage to write angst I've gotta have that happy ending. I think the closest I've ever come to an angsty ending is with How do we do this, when she was our glue? in which I write Natasha Romanoff's funeral.
6. what’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
you have the right to lose control. No contest that shit is life goals for me. Nile ends that fic with a major mission success that required absolutely zero violence, having made friends with Martha Jones and Alec Hardison, and just starting what promises to be a millennia-long romantic as hell Domme/sub relationship with her best friend, and her other best friend and the rest of their family are thrilled about her new relationship status. And she gets to eat great food and wear lots of pretty clothes along the way? And she gets to have that many orgasms and that's only the start of a very, very long-term relationship? WISH. FULFILLMENT. FANTASY.
7. do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
My two longest TOG fics both contain MCU cameos, and you have the right to lose control also has cameos from like half a dozen other pieces of media. But my first true crossover is slowly coming into existence: my Nile Freeman and Sam Wilson Are Cousins AU.
8. have you ever received hate on a fic?
I received some valid hate on a very early Buffy story. I still remember how shitty it felt to read it, but teenage me needed to hear how my severely under-considered Spike apologism made other people feel.
9. do you write smut? if so what kind?
Me, a year ago: blushes uncontrollably Me, now: a million smirk emojis
A partial list of smutty things I have written in the past 11 months (seriously how has it been that long / only that long??):
improbably athletic gym rat sex such as riding someone who's balancing on an exercise ball
lifting someone up onto your shoulders and eating them out against a wall
pegging
getting very hot and bothered but not being able to do anything about it because the characters' friend/frenemy can see/hear everything until they can get their comms into a Faraday cage
tying someone to a chair with their own belts
more pegging
threesome, with yet more pegging (coming soon! 😏)
discovering and taking off a corset
discovering and getting confused about how to take off a self-adhesive strapless bra
first-time sex
casual sex
long-term relationship sex
abortive pegging where the insertive partner hurts herself
Domme/sub
top drop
subspace
so much nipple play
so. much. cunnilingus.
desperate fucking
lazy sex
condoms
creampie
shower sex
partially clothed sex
asymmetric nudity
asymmetric orgasms
orgasm delay/denial
mutual masturbation
masturbation while their partner watches but isn't allowed to participate yet
overstimulation
romantic talk
dirty talk
fucking while one partner is tied to the bed
casually picking a partner up in a firefighter's carry and tearing their clothes off and/or tossing them onto various furniture
spiritual/religious internal monologues during sex
oh and also, consent issues nightmare with a happy ending where the nonconsent element is an external mandate and the couple trust each other and figure out ways to limit the trauma and escape the nightmare and then go on to have healing fully consensual sex
Who have I become??
10. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I'm aware!
11. have you ever had a fic translated?
No — I'd welcome that! But I'm an under-languaged American who wouldn't be able to understand it unless it was in very, very, very basic Spanish.
12. have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yeah! I did that recently and it was a blast! Evie invited me to co-write a kinkmeme fill with her, check it out! And no spoilers but I'm starting a new co-writing adventure that I think y'all are gonna love. 😏😏😏😏
13. what’s your all-time favorite ship?
Book of Nile. Hands down, no contest. Character I relate to (affectionate) / character I relate to (derogatory). It's magic. I can't explain it.
Especially wild to have such an intense OTP now because I've always been SUCH a multishipper in MCU fandom. I'm equally happy with any combination of Steve Sam Bucky Nat Peggy, I've read and enjoyed these characters paired with dozens of other people too, hello I'm a queer person who was happy about the Steggy kiss in Endgame we do exist!
14. what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I think it's time I accept that Eartha Grit isn't going to happen. Maybe I'll clean up and share what pieces I have managed over several years of stop-start trying to write an epic about Sam Wilson exploring his identity as a drag queen.
15. what are your writing strengths?
Per above, I've become someone who really enjoys writing porn, and other people seem to like reading it. Wild.
16. what are your writing weaknesses?
Timely updates. I just work here, ADHD runs the show. Sometimes I get an idea and my fingers are glued to my keyboard until it's posted, and sometimes
Get it? It's an unfinished-paragraph joke *sobs*
17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Whole sentences are not for me, see above with under-languaged American. I've been reflecting lately that I tend to write Booker peppering in French words/phrases amid his English how I pepper in Yiddish and Hebrew in my own speech, when that's not necessarily what makes the most sense for that character. Generally whenever you see Hebrew or Yiddish in one of my fics, that's how I actually talk, or at least a relatively feasible transposition to how the characters might use those words. But I might be going way overboard with the decorative French and it's something that I might pull back on in the future. That "ma biche" endearment pun in you have the right to lose control, though, I stand by that shit 1000%.
18. what was the first fandom you wrote for?
Buffy. GeoCities no longer exists and neither does the computer I made that site on and we're all better for it 😬😬
19. what’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
I want to write a Nile/Quynh pwp.
20. what’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
for TOG:
I See Your Eyes Seek a Distant Shore
you have the right to lose control
Not a Gentle Laughter
and for MCU:
Imagine Your Dessert Platter (SamSteve restaurant AU)
First on the Menu is Sex on the Beach (SamBucky post-Infinity War)
Tagging in case any of y’all feel like doing this! @mprosperossprite @hauntedfalcon @the-grey-lady @sindirimba @rupzydaisy @knoepfchen @victimhood @sweetlyenchains @lady-writes

A few questions here:
1. Which of your ocs do you vibe with the most?
2. How would Roma feel about an ex witch hunter turned witch joining her clan? 😬
I know Roma would prob kill them but it's complicated. I haven't worked out all the details but my mc was raised as a witch hunter but they were never told what their job was - the company kinda sugar coated it if that makes sense. Then one day a witch, prob a captive, tells them about what happens and mc does a prison break and runs off with them. Maybe the witch is like the last of her kind or smthn and to preserve her coven she transfers her knowledge to mc?? Hmm.. idk all the details yet but that's how far I've gotten.
1) I think seneca most right now, maybe a couple months ago I would have said roma, theyre both supposed to be me but split apart, joined together it would be a complete mess of opposite traits yk
2) oomf, roma would probably try to kill them, and would have if one of the other witches hadnt stopped her. Roma isnt the head of the coven, more like the second in command, (rank is based on experience). Zero trust in the beginning, ofc theyre all skeptic but why would they kill one of their own kind who happens to be an ex-witch hunter. I think they would keep mc around just cuz its 5 to 1 and they could easily kill them if need be. I imagine this would ignite a lot of fights, I think eventually they'll see an oracle or those ppl who talk to ghosts and find out the truth. Itll work out as the story progresses
Cant wait 4 ur mc's debut!
Thanks 4 the ask @jadeee <3333

“It’s in keeping with Nature to show our friends affection and to celebrate their advancement, as if it were our very own. For if we don’t do this, virtue, which is strengthened only by exercising our perceptions, will no longer endure in us.”
—SENECA, MORAL LETTERS, 109.15
Watching other people succeed is one of the toughest things to do—especially if we are not doing well ourselves. In our hunter-gatherer minds, we suspect that life is a zero-sum game—that for someone to have more means that we might end up with less. But like all parts of philosophy, empathy and selflessness are a matter of practice. As Seneca observed, it’s possible to learn to “rejoice in all their successes and be moved by their every failure.”This is what a virtuous person does.

Hunter Biden Was Middleman Between Ukrainians And Democratic Lobbyists Currently Under Investigation | ZeroHedge
The smartest guy Joe Biden knows, Hunter Biden, acted as a middleman between Ukrainian energy giant Burisma and two Democratic lobbyists currently under investigation for failing to disclose their work for the scandal-plagued company, according to the Washington Free Beacon's Chuck Ross.
Biden and colleagues at the private equity firm Rosemont Seneca helped Burisma Holdings hire Blue Star Strategies, a firm owned by former Clinton administration officials Sally Painter and Karen Tramontano. Biden's emails show he played a bigger role than anyone had known in arranging Blue Star's consulting work for Burisma. Neither Biden nor the Blue Star founders registered their work under the Lobbying Disclosure Act or the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
Biden's work as a middleman could also explain why federal prosecutors began scrutinizing Blue Star's work for Burisma. Republicans have scrutinized Biden over his work for the company, one of Ukraine's largest natural gas producers, as well as with various Chinese companies. Federal prosecutors are also investigating Biden over his tax affairs and foreign business dealings. -Free Beacon
According to Politico, federal prosecutors began investigating whether Blue Star during its probe into Hunter's taxes, and have been looking into whether the company violated foreign agent laws by failing to disclose their work for Burisma - including meeting with US government officials to advocate on behalf of the Ukrainian company whose president.
Putting the pieces together... last December we learned from diplomatic memos that then-Vice President Joe Biden's office was warned in 2015 that the Ukrainian oligarch who hired his son, Hunter, was deemed corrupt - and that the US Justice Department had gathered evidence to support that conclusion, according to Just The News.
"I assume all have the DoJ background on Zlochevsky," wrote former US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt in Kiev in a 2015 letter to Biden's top advisers, referring to Burisma Holdings founder Mykola Zlochevsky.
"The short unclas version (in non lawyer language) is that US and UK were cooperating on a case to seize his corrupt assets overseas (which had passed through the US)," Pyatt added, noting that the asset forfeiture case against the Ukrainian billionaire "fell apart" when individuals in the Ukrainian prosecutor general's office "acted to thwart the UK case."
The memos, released last week by Senate committees investigating Hunter Biden, also reveal that the US Justice Department was involved in the 2014 asset forfeiture brought against Zlochevsky in the UK, right as Hunter Biden was hired to sit on the board of Burisma.
Multiple State officials have attested to the awkward appearance of conflict of interest posed by Hunter's position on the board as the United States led efforts to fight corruption in Ukraine. In a September, 2015 speech, Pyatt railed against Ukrainian prosecutors for thwarting the UK asset forfeiture case against Zlochevsky.
Pyatt was recently deposed by investigators for the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee about the Ukraine controversy. Though his staff had reported an alleged Burisma bribe and believed the Bidens' conduct in Ukraine created an apparent conflict, Pyatt said he never felt compelled to raise such concerns with the vice president.
"So you never gave thought of raising a concern to the Vice President about this board position his son had?" a Senate investigator asked Pyatt during the deposition back in September.
"No," the ambassador answered. "He's the Vice President of the United States, and it would have been wildly out of place for me to raise something like that, especially insofar as it had zero impact on the work that I was doing." -Just The News
What's more, Hunter's partner Devon Archer also served on the board of Burisma starting in May 2014 - where the pair was "tasked with finding investment projects for Burisma in the United States and Europe and boosting the company's reputation." The two earned over $80,000 per month to serve.

COME ESSERE SICURI DI SÉ STESSI? – STRATEGIE E CONSIGLI DA 110 E LODE
Tumblr media
“Impara a piacere a te stesso.
Un must-have!
Infine, non dimenticarti di passare dal blog di So di Non Sapere per ricevere tanti altri consigli editoriali (e non solo) e imparare come prendersi cura di sé stessi.
Un saluto,

Today’s mix:
Wanna Buy a Monkey? by Dan the Automator 2002 Hip Hop / Trip Hop / Downtempo / Post-Rock / Turntablism
So, this is a pretty great DJ mix courtesy of Dan the Automator, a prolific producer who’s done a lot of weird and silly, alternative-styled hip hop and hip hop-adjacent work with a lot of different people and as a member of a lot of different groups. He’s worked with Kool Keith, been half of Handsome Boy Modeling School with Prince Paul, was in Lovage with Mike Patton of Faith No More (and so much more than Faith No More), he made up one-third of the dystopian-futurist hip hop trio Deltron 3030, he produced the Gorillaz’ debut album, and he also made an album with actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Quite a career!
And this particular DJ mix of his happens to currently be the #1 ranked release on Rate Your Music for the year of 2002, which I don’t agree with, but still, it’s very good! Dan blends his personal taste in 2002 with some of his own awesome work. And on a personal note, Wanna Buy a Monkey? actually represents to a T what was at one point in my life my taste in music. I was an unrepentant hip hop junkie whose horizons were just beginning to broaden out into more electronic and chill stuff, and I dunno how he managed to do it, but if you want a microcosm of that mindset that I was rocking back then, Dan’s transitioning from Deltron 3030 to the magnificent French downtempo duo of AIR pretty much hits the nail on the head. Only thing he’s missing is Groove Armada and Massive Attack. Maybe one day I’ll make a Spotify mix of all the downtempo and trip hop tunes that tickled my fancy all those years ago 😊
Listen to the full mix here.
Highlights:
Black Rob - “Smoothness” Deltron 3030 - “Positive Contact” AIR - “Le Soleil Est Pres de Moi” Zero 7 - “Destiny” Tortoise - “Seneca” Doves - “Firesuite” Lovage - “Stroker Ace” Gorillaz - “Latin Simone” De La Soul - “Bionix” Masta Ace - “Don’t Understand” Jigmastas - “Don’t Get It Twisted” X-ecutioners - “X-Ecutioner’s (Theme) Song” Dilated Peoples - “Clockwork”

Crown Your Hatred - Barbrey Dustin/Robb Stark, A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones : from the Pierre Corneille quote "To take revenge halfheartedly is to court disaster; either condemn or crown your hatred."
*
1. How many are you happy with?
I would say most of them? There are only a few where I’m like “Wait, why did I name it that again...?”
2. How many are… not great?
Eh. A few.
3. How many did you scramble for at the last minute?
Lol is there any other way to title fics?
4. How many did you know before you started writing/creating, or near the beginning?
Zero. Does anyone say otherwise? Who knows the title at the START? Where are all these disciplined, far-sighted fic writers, because I don’t think I know any.
5. How many are quotes from songs or poems?
Nine
6. How many are other quotes?
Five
7. Which best reflects the plot of the story/content of the fanwork?
Probably Some Other Beginning’s End, which is a what-if future fic imagining a scenario where Darrow and Victra have both lost their partners, leading them to turn to each other.
8. Which best reflects the theme of the story/fanwork?
I think Not For Ourselves Alone Are We Born, since the fic deals with Jon post resurrection and the ways he’s lived a life of duty, and given of himself and sacrificed for others, and the way Satin, having been born into prostitution and literally provided his body in service to the desires of others, would feel a kinship with that.
9. Which best reflects the character voice of the story/POV of the fanwork?
Crown Your Hatred.
10. Which is your favorite?
I particularly like Atropos, and the alignment with all of the Fates, given that Roslin didn’t spin the thread/hatch the plot (Clothos) or measure the thread/set the trap (Lachesis), but she’s the mechanism by which the thread is cut/the Red Wedding happens (Atropos).

“Time discovers truth”, Seneca.
The part where you confirm your suspicions, but reality is hard to handle sometimes, a pill hard to swallow for everyone that keeps a secret.
P. 27 / ??

Tumblr media
Maybe you should have thought it over for a minute before heading out to the most dangerous part of Gotham. But rage filled you like it never had before. How dare they? How dare they? Lying to your face and acting as if you were stupid enough to believe a word they said? Ha, as if. Still, you knew something was off for a while. Canceling plans last minute, the badly covered bruises, and you were no expert, but the dark bags under their eyes that seemed to never go away were a clear sign that they spent their nights awake. But for what? Well, maybe you were no genius, but take a wild guess.
When you asked Damian, you expected him to say it. “I'm Robin”, it was easy, right? It's not that you were happy about it, who would? The boy you loved risked his life every night to protect Gotham, that hellhole of a city. But if he said the truth, you would understand, of course. You would freak out, and argue a bit perhaps, but in the end you would understand. But he lied, shamelessly, and smiled at you, the fucking bastard. But then again, so did Jason, trying to pacify you as if you were just a fussy child throwing a tantrum.
The Narrows was a bad place to be anytime, but at night the posibilities of coming out unharmed were slim to none. To be honest, you were terrified of being there alone. But your position was way too obstinate to back down now. “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”, you know. So you kept on pushing past your fear, and ignored what your gut told you. Every step took you further into danger's jaws. As immersed as you were fighting Damian in your head, you walked into an alley, but when you were to turn around, your exit was blocked.
Three guys, all of them over forty at least, showed you their teeth in a poor attempt at a smile that resembled a wolf's vicious snarl. They whistled, and stepped closer, cornering you against the brick wall. “Such a pretty little thing”, the one in the middle said, so you knew he was the “leader” right away. “What are you doing here all alone, baby?”, you didn't utter a word, looking for an escape route. “Cat's got your tongue? Don't worry, I like them better when they know when to keep their mouth shut”. They laughed, and advanced towards you, hands reaching out.
But before they could touch you, a shadow descended upon all of you, right behind the offenders. When they were running for their lives before you could blink, the shadow turned to you. Black Bat. “You need to get out of here”, she said, and you felt your blood boil. “I'll scort you back home if—” “No”, that seemed to stop her, and she turned to you, “What?” “I said no”. You wouldn't admit it, but now you did look like a child. Hands fisted, arms rigid at you sides, shoulders stiff. The only thing missing was the pout. You saw her typing something. Then she turned to you. “You really should—” “I know who you are”, the words died in her throat, “I know who you all are”, you sounded bitter, betrayed, and undeniably sad. “You, Nightwing, Red Hood... Robin”.
As if on cue, said vigilante dropped next to Black Bat, landing soundlessly and staring you down. Now that he was so close... How did you not know before? The hair, the jaw, the nose... the frown. He was looking at you as if he was utterly dissapointed in you, but instead of backing down you stood your ground, arms crossed, head held high. “What happened?” “Oh, please, not the clueless act”, your words cut through the air, and earned you a wide-eyed look from both of them. “You know what? Fuck this”. Then you started walking, pushing your way past them. “I'll take care of it”, you heard Robin say.
“Take care of it?”, you thought, scoffing. Conceited bastard. Hearing the noise his boots made while trailing behind you annoyed you after five blocks, so you turned around. “What do you want?” “Make sure you get home safe” “I don't need it” “You do, habi—”, he stopped himself mid-sentence and your mouth pulled down at the ends, fighting back tears, “Habibti? Is that what you were going to say?”. You were tired, emotionally and physically, so you just let tears fall freely then, not even bothering to wipe them away. You turned back, walking again, but Damian stopped you. “I'm sorry, Y/N”, you laughed, a broken, uneven laugh that put his heart in an iron grip.
“Were you ever going to tell me?”, he looked down, softly taking one of your hands into his gloved one, “No”. The sob that came out of you then threatened to shatter him like glass, leaving a lump in his throat that he knew he could not swallow down. “I wanted to protect you”, he confessed, “What I do... What we do is too dangerous, we wanted to keep you safe”, you looked at him, red-rimmed eyes condemning him as you ripped your fingers away from his. “Protect me? Protect me?”, you yelled, enraged, and Damian was thankful that the streets were void of people “Is that how you comforted yourself after lying to my face?”, taking a step back you hugged yourself, and gave him a once over, “«I have business to attend to, Y/N» «The bruises come from my self-defense classes, habibti» «It's just a bit of insomnia, don't worry»”. You rubbed your eyes furiously, and he knew he couldn't do anything to stop you, you would push him away.
“What would have happened if you died?”, your voice was but a tiny whisper, “Or Steph, or Jay, or...”. You shook your head, unable to even imagine it. “Would you tell me that it was an accident? One of the many misfortunes that happen daily in Gotham?” “Habibti, don't do this” “No, Damian, you did this”, he released a pained noise, like a wounded animal. You took a step foward, and then another, and cupped his face in your hands. You kissed him, even through the taste of your own tears, and he cried too. When you stepped back, his eyes stayed closed for a second too long, as if he could escape the pain he inflicted, and take back the lies. “I'm so sorry, habibti” “I know”, you wiped your face with the sleeve of your shirt, sniffling. “What does it mean? «Habibti»”, he smiled sadly, his eyes begging you, but you were looking right through him, “It means «beloved»”. You nodded, eyes full of tears once again. “Goodbye, Damian”, and you turned around, and left. The though of Cass making sure you got home safe soothed his worries, but not the splitting ache inside his ribcage.

Why reality owes you nothing
I was once looked in the face by a very good friend and asked: how can I be happy? Here was a “simple” question that seemingly defied answers, had perhaps defied an easy answer for millennia. On the outset, my friend seemed to have everything a person could want : she was attractive, fluent in several languages, incredibly well travelled and highly educated. Yet happiness, the way she saw it, seemed to defy her. I have often thought about this moment, about the inescapable weight of the simple question with no clear answer. I don’t really remember what I answered her or whether my answer made any sense at all. I just hope that the words that came out my month on that day gave her some sort of relief.  Whatever I said or didn’t say, the question itself and the obvious burden of pain it carried has haunted my mind for years.
Different cultures seemed to have developed different answers, according to the cultural and historical context in which the definition of happiness was sought. According to classic stoic philosophy, it was a giving into the capricious nature of fate and the patient accepting of the misery of the human condition that was the road to the greatest amount of human satisfaction. Other world views, such as Buddhism, see potential fulfillment as a recognition of the suffering that is necessarily tied into mortal being, a suffering afflicting not only humans but other animals too.  Their proposed solution was not only to turn inward, but to separate oneself from that which causes suffering, meaning the strong material needs that plaque humans and often go far beyond basic sustenance.  They recognized that suffering was not only a human experience, but something more universal and bound into the very fabric of life, connecting existence in  myriad ways.  While Buddhism and Hinduism make no grand separation between human beings and animals, the monotheistic traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam place human beings far above the equally mortal creatures living along side them.  By making human beings the very purpose of gods creations, human well-being supersedes the wellbeing of animals and other living creatures. Human purpose is therefore pushed out of the animal kingdom.  From the monotheist perspective, the answer to the question of happiness is therefore a very individualistic one, genuinely untethered to thoughts of a universal reality shared among all living things. It is one of personal responsibility and therefore also of personal failure.  I now believe that my friend was asking me her question out of this particular context.  I think that in her eyes, she seemed to have followed the western monotheist code of personal conduct and yet hadn’t earned the happiness she felt entitled to. This time though it wasn’t a divine creator that was besieged by an ancient pleading human being, but reality itself besieged by a very modern person with basically the same outlook. Why reality, the questioner seemed to be asking, why haven’t you given me that which you promised? Why, despite all my hard work and accomplishments, am I still unhappy?
Perhaps the answer which I would give today and the answer which, in my humble view, would be a direct nudge to anything remotely approaching happiness, assuming the very thing exists at all, would be: because reality doesn’t owe you anything. It doesn’t owe you happiness, just as much as it doesn’t owe you a pink unicorn friend, a handsome knight on a white horse, big luscious breasts or a giant penis. It doesn’t even owe you existence. Think about that for a moment. There is absolutely zero reason why you should exist at all.  Reality has no need for your existence and consequentially absolutely no reason to share with you something called happiness, an amorphous ill-defined concept if there ever was one.  What I want to say is that once we grasp that all we are is flotsam on the surface of an ocean of endless probability, something much better and much more grounded comes to mind. These are the twin ideas of gratefulness and satisfaction. The problem with much of western thinking that it is naturally geared towards big and even bigger things. It is after all a civilization that has send human beings to the Moon, regularly sends robots to Mars, cured small pox and has never been satisfied with a given status quo, be it political, societal or scientific. However, in contrast to the grasping and manipulation of external reality, inner human reality seems far less flexible and hasn’t changed much over the eons that have buried our ancestors.  Ancient philosophers such as Seneca wrestled with the same problems and inner turmoil that we face today, even though our world and our external reality has drastically changed in a way that our philosophizing and world-weary ancestors would probably have never conceived of.
In my view, the answer to much western misery must start with killing that ever-poisoning chalice of unrealistic expectations, be that the expectations we have of friendship, love, wealth or education. In reality nothing is owed to us. Once we start believing in an illusionary idea of  unending and ever growing happiness, we miss how exactly the blessings that we already have naturally cause us to feel. And I mean naturally, as in the limits of our human biological capacity to receive and to internalize. If there is no inbuilt ability to stay elated for a long time, as the effects of drugs tend to show, then maybe we should start orienting ourselves towards satisfaction and acceptance instead of elation. Acceptance that all we have is gifted to us for a very brief moment. Acceptance that we have been given far more than we have any right to ask for. Nothing we have and nothing we own makes us better than other people who, due to fortune, have less than us. Acceptance that happiness and elation are creations of romantic illusion and have no place in the lives of immensely fragile creatures such as we are. As human beings we should be grateful when coming into contact with a genuine feeling of deep satisfaction. The quest for happiness should therefore end at the borders of our very real limits.

Meet the Party:
Seneca: Drow cleric who is the ultimate mom friend and had no idea how to do damage; Phäel learns to trust her very quickly because of how kind and open she is and eventually adopts her as an older sister figure
Soultana: Tiefling barbarian who literally killed a cat within the first 5 minutes Phäel knew her; Phäel trusts her about as far as he can throw her which is approximately zero feet because she is nearly a half a foot taller and much larger than he is
Brylle: dwarf who’s class is unknown; Phäel is introduced to the party when he saves her after she woke up with amnesia on the docks of the Invisible Tides in Zofrana. Brylle is sweet and quiet, so while he doesn’t distrust her, Phäel doesn’t really know how to feel about her
Gizmo: 15 year old halfling rogue; Phäel wishes he could strangle him on nearly an every day basis
Viserion: Dragonborn sorcerer; Phäel doesn’t know his very well because he mostly keeps to himself and hangs around Gizmo, who Phäel regularly tries to avoid. He doesn’t care about other lives in battle though which Phäel finds distainful
Akra: Dragonborn wizard; Phäel only recently met Akra during a jailbreak after she was captured. She has a habit of not realizing the consequences of her spells during battle, but besides wishing she cared more for other lives, Phäel doesn’t have anything against her
