“My family did not have much money,” Abuela confided. “In fact, we were quite poor for most of my childhood. My quinceañera was very small; I want you girls to have better, mi flor.”
Isabela had heard all about Mamá and Tia Pepa’s quinceañera. The whole village had been invited, almost like it was another Gift Ceremony. Mamá and Papá had still only been friends, but they danced together and then fourteen-year-old Agustín caused a scene by knocking over a punch bowl and spilling punch all down Mamá’s new dress.
Mamá had laughed but Abuela had been furious.
Isa knew what was expected: she knew everyone would be invited. Casita would be full of guests and she’d dance with her papá, there would be the Changing Of The Shoes, it would all be a wonderful, beautiful event…
So why did she feel so nervous as Abuela and Mamá took her fabric shopping?
Maybe it was because Abuela gave such a soft, awed gasp as she found a shimmering lilac fabric. “Oh, Isabela, amor, you’d look so beautiful!” she cooed.
Isabela was heartily sick of pastels, but she smiled, nodded and agreed. When the shop-owner showed them a book of designs, Abuela pointed one out.
“What do you think, Isa?” she asked gently.
The skirt is too flouncy, she thought. There’s too many ruffles.
But Abuela looked so hopeful. Isabela couldn’t bear to wipe the smile off her face. Mamá was smiling too, looking as smitten with the design as Abuela.
“It’s very pretty, Abuela,” she said sweetly. “I’d look like a princess from a book!”
The shop-owner smiled at her fondly. Alma kissed her cheek and insisted on splitting the cost with Julieta.
“We’ll find you the perfect jewellery,” Mamá promised and Isabela made sure to smile wider and thank her.
She knew they’d be happy to help with making the dress. As much as Isa didn’t want to admit it, Mirabel was the champion seamstress of the family; the complicated dress design was beyond Isabela’s skill set.
But Abuela was right. It would be perfect. She’d look beautiful. Everyone would be happy.
Isabela was already wondering how to incorporate her Gift into the dances. She could make a shower of rose petals, no problem. It was only to be expected.
This was the first quinceañera in their family in years, and she was Isabela. They were the Madrigals.
It had to be perfect.
“Gracias, Abuela,” Isabela said when they got home, giving her grandmother a tight hug. And she meant it, she was thankful, she truly loved spending the day with Alma and Julieta. Just the three of them, no obligations or responsibilities. A whole day out together, just a day of shopping and some lunch. It was a lovely break.
Yet a part of Isabela still felt nervous, deep down. She tried to ignore it and focus on Abuela’s loving smile, how gentle she was when she kissed Isa’s cheek, the way she even gently teased Julieta for how nervous she’d been about her own quinceañera.
She looked so happy. So Isabela was happy too. Of course she was.
That evening, in the privacy of her room, Isabela practiced her poses and dances, sending out a small flurry of rose petals as she gracefully spun.
It would be perfect. Isabela would make sure it was all perfect.

The One
Julieta took a deep breath as she finished plating dinner for the night. She was elated and felt so confident in herself after making her mother’s favorite meal. Today was the day! She would tell Alma about the boy who’s stolen her heart and that she knew she would marry him.
She set the table just as Pépa and Bruno came down, raising an eyebrow as to why their sister seemed to be floating on air. Julieta smiled at them, not even caring that they thought she was crazy. Pépa chuckled, rolling her eyes and shaking her head as she sat down. Bruno was still lost but shrugged and sat down.
“I’m glad to see you’re in such a good mood, mija,” Alma said as she walked in and took her seat at the head of the table. “I have some news for you, and I’m confident it’ll make you even happier,” she smiled.
‘Doubt it,’ Julieta thought to herself. “I have some news too, Mamá. I can’t wait to share.” She took her seat and smiled at her mother, practically vibrating with anticipation. “But, you go first.” Alma nodded, “Very well then. I have been talking to Señora Gomez. You know how she adores you, mijita,” Alma always had a soft spot for her eldest daughter. She had a soft spot for all three of her children but in different ways. Julieta nodded, she was always humble, but she could hardly get the woman to shut up when she started talking to her. “Well, we have decided that you and her son Dante will marry.”
Julieta was sure the house had just fallen on top of her. Her smile far gone and her stomach churned, “Wh-what?”
-
I had a random idea. ...Here you go...

senorita perfecta twins au
Isabela was groomed to be perfect along with Dolores, yet she grew more than just roses, she read about herbs and grew them, Dolores wore earmuffs, they both love their hermanas/hermanos and won't take shit from anyone, Abuela sees how Isa eyes Lili and is always giving her lily flower crowns and plans to set them up, she's also plans on setting them up with Mariano but both girls come to her and tell her that Isa only likes him as a friend. Nothing more while Dolores has heart eyes for him, so she's happily set up with him, they play music and dance with their family, the villagers, Mariano, Lili and eventually Bubo Marquez. Isabela is a wild princess while Dolores is a princess of secrets

Is Isabela a senorita perfecta in the Twins au ?
She was. However, unlike canon, she crumbled a little earlier from Alma’s pressure in public - completely humiliating herself at her quinceañera. Camilo, barely a second later, fought to be in her shoes (he had been the second favourite anyway) as the golden child, but ended up bringing Mirabel with him.

i was watching this video and well, the video itself is not the problem, it raises some interesting questions but I wanted to talk about the comments. They make me realize how much people don't understand Isabela and Mirabel's relationship and the movie is somewhat to blame for that. (Part 1?)
youtube
People's complaint in the comments is that Isabela's arc came out of nowhere and that her issues were resolved too quickly and that she is horrible and mean. Well, I'll talk about Isabela's problems later, now I'll focus on Mirabel and Isabela.
First of all, one thing to remember is that we see everything in the film through MIRABEL's eyes, what we see in the film is how Mirabel sees things and how she sees her family, especially Isabela. Here in the first and second acts she is seen as someone perfect, stunning and loved by everyone in the village and that she has a bad relationship with Mirabel since Mirabel calls Isabela a primadonna for her future fiance, to give her an irritated look when isabela is in the spotlight and etc... and although mirabel also seems to not like her that much isabela seems to be the person who mainly doesn't get along with her, her first interaction she says that "if you didn't try so hard she wouldn't be in the way" and mirabel instantly counters saying "well actually that's called helping, and you're the one in the way", at Antonio's ceremony Isabela gives annoying looks when mirabel is on the spotlight (her helping antonio' to walk towards his door and showing eveyeone the cracks)and later mirabel quotes in a tone of mocking her mother that she is not "absolutely flawless like senorita perfecta isabela, who never had a bad hair day" and all these elements show us that
1- Isabela basically thinks that Mirabel gets in the way more than it helps and that irritates her
2- Mirabel gets irritated with Isabela's excessive perfection and how she is treated like an kind of godness
there are other possible factors for the lack of intensity of the two but I think these are the main ones, a lot of people say that isabela doesn't like mirabel because she doesn't have a gift and that mirabel just doesn't like isabela simply because isabela doesn't like her either. But I personally think the reasons for their disagreements are pretty obvious, both of the reasons seems kinda of petty but its also understandable seeing their papers in this family
Well, in the second act and in the beginning of the third act, we don't have many interactions between Isabela and Mirabel, they collide once and Isabela gets angry, Isabela tells Mirabel that she doesn't want to hear anything from her at the engagement dinner, the dinner happens and mirabel accidentally interrupts mariano's proposal and shows everyone the vision which makes the cracks worse and the doms get out of control and when everything goes down the drain isabela leaves furious yelling "i hate you" to mirabel aftee leave the dinner room.
Here comes the third act where the "conclusion" of their relationship arrives, while Isabela is annoyed that Mirabel has ruined her proposal, Mirabel finds Bruno and they get the vision where Mirabel discovers that she will have to hug Isabela, and so she has an interesting conversation about bruno about her relationship with isabela, where about the points about why she doesn't want to hug isabela. First she mentions that Isabela hates her (that's what she says to Mirabel after dinner) that she ruined her proposal and that Isabela is annoying and she would still continue until Bruno interrupts her " and what's the problem her with me anyway? she's the one with the roses coming out of the-"- it's an interesting part since just like the others in the movie, mirabel seems more irritated with the fact that isabela is perfect and it's irritating with the fact that she necessarily the treat- but anyway let's go to THE scene.
mirabel arrives in isabela's room and she is obviously furious about the dinner failure and demands an apology from mirabel for """ruining your life""",mirabel tries to go on about her family but she quickly changes her tone "i'm sorry.. .for your life being SO great" and then the confrontation ensues, isabela tells mirabel to leave and mirabel says that "I've been stuck being perfect my whole life and literally the only thing you've ever done to me is mess things up!" and then reveals that he didn't want to marry mariano and was doing it for the family and then... cactus...
Mirabel doesn't give a shit at first and just wants to do the thing and save the miracle, but then Isabela starts "what else can I do?".
isabela starts talking about herself and her problems and releasing her feelings and her gift in the process while mirabel still tries to insist on the hug, then at the climax of the song isabela directly asks mirabel "i'm tired of beautiful, i want something real, you no?" and mirabel realizes that Isabela is speaking sincerely and from the heart and mirabel finally understanding she says "your life felt like a dream from the moment you opened your eyes" and isabela at the moment when she thought she would not have support from no one mirabel comes up and says "all i knew was the brossoms you grew up but it's amazing to see how you get up" basically saying i never knew you like this but i loved meeting this new you and then the two start the duet and mirabel gives isabela their support as she releases her gift and they have fun in the meantime and finally isabela hugs her saying "the way is clear because you are here and well i owe it all to you" and the musical number ends with them happy ...that means they solved all their problems right?...
then abuela comes in and points out the fact that isabela's gift is out of control and she is a mess and what makes her silently withdraw from the scene and go to her corner while mirabel is confronting abuela directly. This scene is interesting because as much as it's understandable why Isabela didn't defend Mirabel, she's scared, she's seen for the first time in her true form in years and she's uncomfortable being seen like that in front of other people who tell her grandmother she was so faithfully proud of what she pretended to be but we see she is not comfortable and resolved enough to stand up for her sister who just made her finally try herself in YEARS, her issues still haven't been resolved and she still has a lot of insecurity inside her... Thats why her problems were not immeditaly resolved in 1 song their were improving but still there.
so the house collapses after abuela and mirabel's conflict, mirabel disappears and after everyone looks for her one day she comes back reconciled with abuela and with bruno and she starts to explain how they all need to work together to improve how family and they start... rebuilding the house together, and we see the lovely scene of Luísa, Isabela and Mirabel working together and getting close to each other after YEARS and after probably months we see the scene of "we see how Bright you burn,we see hoe brave you been, now see yourself in turn, you the real gift kid let us in" which is my favorite scene in the movie where everyone recognizes not only what she went through but how she deserves to see herself as someone special after all this time...
sorry for diverting attention from mirabel and isabela's relationship but back to my previous point, many people felt that their reconciliation was rushed, one-sided and that isabela changed a lot out of nowhere and her problems were never shown or hinted at before this scene , about the last one I'm going to make another post about it since this post is getting too long but as you can see here their relationship is mutual and they also found the other annoying but it's not the fault of either of them " but isabela is an adult and mirabel is a teenager she should know better instead of picking on her sister!" 6 year age gap tho? and even so, that never prevented anything in family dynamics, I'm not saying that she's not wrong but people citing this as a point in Mirabel's favor is... strange, anyway, I won't go into that much... in the movie they start to reconcile after mirabel accidentally made Isabela release her gift and her feelings in the process and this made them understand better and mirabel was the first to support her when she shows her true self , only i think that Is it realistic and would you be able to see people getting along in real life? It wasn't just any little thing that made them get along all of a sudden, Isabela finally after years got to try herself a little and Mirabel was the first person she shared this with. And it's not like everything between them is resolved, it's just the beginning of a reconciliation.
about the criticism of being too one-sided, yes i agree with that, i wanted isabela to acknowledge mirabel's side at least more than she did but i also understand why in this particular scene they wanted to show isabela's side more? it's about mirabel really getting to know her family and stop putting herself in an inferior position to them because of a distorted view she has of them, it makes sense that the film focuses more on how mirabel sees her family than on what on the contrary (except in the case of Abuela who is the catalyst for trauma) but yes, it would be nice to have more recognition of how difficult it is for Mirabel but I think that Isabela later recognized how difficult it is for her, especially in the climax where she sees Abuela blaming everything on mirabel and mirabel says "i'll never be serious enough for you, will i? no matter how hard i try..." in this scene she must have recognized how hard mirabel tries as much as she has abuela's approval and how much it's hard for her and i also really like her and the rest of the family giving her the recognition they now know she's wanted all this time, but yes i understand that criticism and i would want more
Well its that, too long sorry, and my english sucks,i wilk talk more about isabela because i fell that she is one of the most opinion divided character in this fandon, while Bruno and Camilo are the most loved ones and Abuela and Dolores are the most hated ones and then theres isabela...a lot of ppl love her because of her character pos-movie and a lot also hated her

Madrigal shenanigans prompt: the kids finding out that Bruno can be/still is a trouble maker?
"I'll leave this room for one hour and when I come back, I want you to tell me who did this."
"But-"
"One hour!"
Camilo and Isabela glare at each other as soon as Julieta leaves the room.
"Good going, doofus!" Isabela hisses through clenched teeth and swats at Camilo's shoulder. "Just own up to it already."
Camilo rubs his arm and attempts to pout like he's seen Antonio do. He's not nearly as good at it as his little brother. "But it really wasn't me. You were the last one to see it. You must have done something to it."
"How dare you! And why would I? I'm not as childish as you."
"Well, I know it wasn't me, so it must have been you, Senorita Perfecta."
"You are the resident troublemaker. Didn't you just say yesterday that 'Trouble' is your middle name? Way to implicate yourself, dear primo"
"Ohhh big word. Only the guilty throw around big words like that, don't you know?"
The two kids are caught in a staring match when there is a slight cough from the doorway.
Tio Bruno lounges against the frame, inspecting his fingernails as if they are the most interesting thing in the world.
"Trouble, kids?"
"Tio Bruno!" Isabela shouts and points a finger into Camilo's face which the boy promptly slaps away. "Camilo broke Tia Julieta's favorite pan and now he won't admit it!"
Before Camilo can defend himself, Bruno shrugs. "Wasn't Cami."
"Hah!" The boy does a little victory dance.
Isabela fumes. "But it wasn't me either!"
"I know."
Camilo stops his victory dance so abruptly that he almost falls flat on his face. "Huh? Then who did it?"
Bruno finally stops inspecting his nails. He grabs a corner of his ruana and dramatically drapes it over his lower face, like some kind of phantom.
"It was me!" he booms with a deep voice. "It has been me all along! Muahahaha"
"WHAT?"
Bruno winces and drops the ruana. In seconds he is their awkward tio again, sheepishly rubbing his head. "It was an accident, actually. You see, I wanted to show Antonio how to slide down the hill out back on a pan, but I couldn't find the old one your mothers and I always used so we just took the biggest one we could find in the kitchen." He pouts and crosses his arms. "Stupid thing didn't even last one turn. They don't make them like they used to, kids."
"Why wasn't I invited?" Camilo asks, outraged.
Isabela just rolls her eyes. "Great, then you can tell Mama the truth."
A glint enters Bruno's eyes. It's not a nice glint.
"Oh, I don't think so. Remember when you two threw me to the wolves named Pepa and Julieta and left me to take the blame for the 'capybara incident' which had been totally your fault? Well, you know the saying. Karma is a doorbell. Ding dong. It's for you!"
Camilo doesn't know if he should be angry or impressed while Isabela gapes like a fish out of water. "You can't… We'll tell her you did it!"
"You can try." Bruno smirks. "But there are actually quite a few people who will swear up and down that they saw me in the village the whole day. That's the beauty of having so many people being assholes to you for almost your entire life and now realizing their mistakes. They kinda owe you big, you know?"
"That's ruthless, Tio Bruno!" Okay, so Camilo is definitely impressed now.
Isabela not so much. "You are supposed to be the grown-up, responsible adult Tio Bruno!"
Bruno pats their heads and laughs. "Not today! Good luck, kiddos."
He whistles as he saunters out of the room, leaving his beloved sobrino's to their doom.

I know Mirabel doesn't really need a gift, and it's commonly accepted that her real gift is to be the next keeper of the magic...
But I love the idea of her having a sewing based gift. I first saw the idea in this post: https://thesoffgengar.tumblr.com/tagged/gifted%20mirabel%20au
And I want to add my own flair to it. Like, Mirabel can endow each thing she makes with one special ability. This Ruana can keep you dry in a surprise rainstorm, that purse never gets holes in it, etc. She makes a whole legion of baby clothes that never get stained and toys that never get lost. Each item gets only one special attribute and there's a whole town full of people, so Mirabel is kept very busy.
Because she's so attentive to everyone's needs and desires, she's still the first person to discover the cracks in Casita. Her attempts to shove scraps in the cracks or paste fabric over them fail, leaving shredded cloth in its wake. She realizes quickly that this is something her gift can't mend. Cue hero's journey.
I think there'd be some additional character beats in this AU. Mirabel's similar to Luisa in that she spends to much time making things for other people, the things she wants to make for herself or for fun fall to the wayside. Like Julieta, she's a very behind-the-scenes worker that's constantly kept busy. She's finally starting to admit to herself that she feels overworked when the movie starts off and it helps her empathize with Luisa even more.
Her relationship with Abuela is still strained and distant. Abuela tends to overwork her for the sake of helping people and the long hours she spends in her room leave little time for socializing. Brings new meaning to the whole "I can't take another night up in my room" part of Waiting on a Miracle. For this Mirabel, she needs a miracle to meet her deadline.
Ok, that was a joke.
Abuela would also probably have really high standards of quality for what Mirabel makes. She'd want them to be perfect and pristine. Mirabel doesn't realize it at the time, but she and Isabela have this in common. That would be a nice plot point during their scene together.
Speaking of, the sisters' relationship would be similar to canon, but a bit toned down. They're still distant, pulled apart by their respective roles, but hey, they can go a few minutes without snipping at each other. Isabela might envy Mirabel not having to be in the spotlight all the time, but she also appreciates the things Mirabel makes for her. By contrast, Mirabel might still roll her eyes at Senorita Perfecta, but there's less of a divide between them. The tension's still there, there's just a lot less back and forth. Maybe Mirabel picks up on the fact that Abuela seems to have more suggestions for Isabela's dresses than Isabela herself.
When Casita's being rebuilt, she gets time to sew for the fun of it and makes herself a new dress, this one with butterflies embroidered on it. Her family even makes her a new project bag with symbols of each of them embroidered on it. It's a way of thanking her for stitching the family back together and for making so many nice things for everyone else all this time.
At the end of the movie her gift has returned, but the workload is definitely cut back. Abuela realizes she's been pushing Mirabel too hard and limits the amount of things people can ask of her. She's able to rediscover the fun of sewing and her creativity grows with the renewal of the magic. Abuela even comes to sit with her while she works and catch up.
Let me know what you think and what ideas you have for this AU!

A piece I wrote in like 20 minutes because I have Encanto brain-rot and I started thinking of how Mirabel got her “gift” in a Celebrity!Madrigals AU
……..
Mirabel returned home sluggishly, tossing her bag to the couch as soon as she crossed through the door of their home.
Unsurprisingly, the house was empty.
Mama had gone to an interview for her new cook-book, dragging Papa with her as even with her collected front she hated doing interviews alone. Tia Pepa was working hard on recording her next album with Tio Felix. Dolores was at a meeting for her cover art, Luisa at training for the athletic event, and Camilo at a table read for a new, exclusive movie he wasn’t allowed to tell her about yet.
Even Senorita perfecta Isabela would be welcome right now, but she was out too, negotiating a contract with a new, up-and-coming fashion boutique.
Once again, ordinary Mirabel was left alone as her extraordinary family won over the hearts of the public.
It wasn’t like Mirabel resents them for it.
(Well, maybe she did - just a little - but she really didn’t mean to.)
Mirabel loved her family more than anything, and they loved her. She knew her family loved her, they showed it every day. They were just so busy with interviews, and work, and fans, and fame.
(And yeah, maybe things have been tough for a couple years since Camilo had started getting serious acting work. Maybe Abuela was starting to pressure Mirabel, or asking her why she hadn’t started working on something impressive like her sisters or cousins. Maybe Mirabel felt just a tiny bit alone every time her parents, or sisters, or cousins were too busy to ask about her day or help with homework. That didn’t mean they loved her any less, right?
Right?)
She turned the TV on, just to drown out the silence of the apartment. It landed on an old rerun of a talk-show from last week, an interview of Dolores quietly teasing her new album. Mirabel left in on, the familiar voice always calming.
There she was, home alone, given full range of the top floor apartment building her family owned.
She was was wholly, completely, unequivocally bored.
With nothing better to do, she decided to actually do some homework, pulling out notebooks of her bag and flipping to the next clean page of her math one. Her eyes wandered, smiling at the paper.
Just before it was a page full of doodles from when she got bored in class, all symbols important to her family. Herbs for Mama, A thunderbolt (the name of Tia Pepa’s first solo album), a chameleon for Camilo, Flowers for Isabela who always said she wanted to be a florist before modeling took off. Beside the individual drawing had been a smaller sketch, the markings inside a pair of pants.
Mirabel paused.
She glanced down at her own, suddenly very plain skirt.
Her private school had many rules on dress code - no colored hair, uniform below the knees, black shoes.
They said nothing against modifying the turquoise uniform, did they?
In a sudden moment of weakness and ADHD hyperfixation, the teen shot up. Papa kept some extra sowing supplies in the back of his closet, didn’t he?
Somewhat quickly, with only a small fight with a jacket, she’d gotten the sowing kit and changed clothes to pull her skirt over her lap.
She sowed, carefully working the needle in and out of the fabric in a focus she’d never had before.
So often, she was “the other Madrigal”, the boring one, the child left to herself. So, if she had to be plain Mirabel, the least she could do was have a not-so-plain skirt.
Two weeks full of lonesome days passed by thanks to that needle and thread before the skirt was done, and she was no longer so plain.
She had no idea almost a year and a half after that, she sold her first fashion design, catapulting herself from ordinary Mirabel into the spotlight as one of the Magnificent Madrigals.

“Fine, let’s do this one last time. My name is Isabela Madrigal. My abuela’s marriage candle became magic, and gave me spider powers. Now, I’m New Encanto’s one and only Spider-Woman. Really just what I need on top of living up to my abuela’s high expectations to be Senorita Perfecta Isabela, graduating college with straight A’s, and marrying some big dumb hunk I don’t love. Wearing the mask is the first time in ages when I’ve felt like myself, and it makes me wonder what else can I do?” - Isabela Madrigal, Spider-Woman

Indulge my “Senoritas Perfectas” bullshit 🌸✨
Takes place immediately following Mirabel’s Ceremony
Tumblr media
It was pure happenstance that Isabela and Mirabel arrived to breakfast together. They’d both woken early- Isabela from habit and Mirabel because she wanted to keep practicing with her Gift- and they walked into the dining room together. Mirabel trailed right behind Isabela, little sparkles dancing around her fingertips.
Abuela smiled softly, her eyes shining with pride.
“There’s my perfect girls,” she said. She rose from her seat to hug them both, kissing Isabela on the cheek and gently stroking Mirabel’s hair.
Isabela paused. Perfect. My perfect girls.
It was true, Mirabel’s Gift was perfect. Everyone had gone wild when she touched her door and light spilled from her. She’d been bombarded with requests the whole night; the villagers and family alike were eager to see what light powers could create.
Abuela had looked especially fond when Isabela made flower petals rain down on Mirabel as she danced.
Perfect. Of course it was perfect. How could it be any less?
But what if…?
Isabela kept her smile in place as she and Mirabel took their seats. Abuela ushered Mirabel into the seat next to Isabela. That was new. Normally there was no fuss on who sat where; the only rule (albeit unspoken) was that Abuela always sat at the head of the table.
Isabela listened as Mirabel happily rambled to Abuela, telling her about the tiny rainbow she’d made that morning and how she promised she’d made one of the lights look like a butterfly. So eager to please. So happy and sweet.
What if Mirabel couldn’t keep it up? What if her smile slipped? What if people got bored of her Gift?
Her heart was pounding but Isa kept her hands clasped together and her posture straight (Abuela said it made her look so grown up), smiling all the while.
Her growing suspicions were confirmed after breakfast. As everyone separated to go about their business, Abuela took Isabela aside.
“Isa, mi vida,” she said. “After school, will you let Mirabel join you for your chores?” Her smile was indulgent, so happy and proud. Isabela would do anything to keep that smile.
Besides, Mirabel tailing her wouldn’t exactly be hard work. At most, she’d just insistently ask questions, like usual.
“Sí, Abuela,” she said.
“Gracias, amor,” Abuela said. She squeezed Isabela’s hand. “I think you are the best suited to help her.”
“Help her, Abuela?”
“With her Gift. Flowers and light- it couldn’t be more perfect.”
There was that word again. One little word with so much weight.
Isabela needed to be perfect. Everyone in the family did, really; they were the amazing Madrigals, so blessed, so helpful and strong. But she was the eldest, the shining example to her sisters, her cousins, to everyone in her age group.
Senorita Perfecta Isabela. Sweet, angelic, perfect Isabela. The flower princess.
And now Mirabel. The little shining star. Warm, loving, happy Mirabel.
Isabela didn’t want to see her sister’s smile disappear.
Of course she’d help her. What else could she do?

Had an idea for a varient of the de-aged Mira stuff:
Isabela asks the Candle to help her get out of marrying Mariano, so around the time of the movies events (like, a few days/a week before Antonio's 5th b-day?) she wakes up as a 4 year old.
She reacts badly to this, both bc she's legitimately freaking out and bc being in a toddlers body makes it harder to reign in her emotions, and bc of this by the time she's calmed down, her whole family thinks she's mentally regressed. Thankfully she can't use her gift like this, or else who knows what dangerous plants would have been sprouted everywhere while she was crying.
When she calms down, Isa is surprised to find that Mirabel is holding her and rocking her and comforting her, while the rest of the family is kinda watching and trying to figure out what happened. Mira has heard Isa freaking out when she did her whole wakeup call thing, and Isa latched onto her when she came into her room to see what was wrong.
When Isa realizes that noone knows she's not mentally four, she plays along to get a chance to not have to be 'Senorita Perfecta' for a while, and to use the time to figure out how to get out of marrying Mariano.
Mirabel volunteers to watch Isa for a few hours, until their parents are able to take her, but Abuela steamrolls that in favor of Mira being in charge of Isa until she's back to normal.
Neither sister is thrilled about this, but Isa has no way to protest without letting everyone know she's still mentally herself, and Mira is thoroughly weirded out by the whole situation.
Being buddy-ed with Mira for a week really opens up Isas eyes to how Mirabel doesn't have it easy.
She always quietly envied Mira for not having the spotlight on her, and part of her resentment came from Mira constantly trying to help. Isa wished she could hide in the shadows, could just do whatever she wanted without anyone noticing or caring, and Mira has that, but couldn't stop trying to jump into the light.
Isa has no idea how lonely it was to be ignored.
Thanks to being in a four year olds body, all of Isa's adult emotions are easily overwhelming, so she only makes it three, maybe four days, before she breaks down to Mira, spilling that she remembers everything, and she's sorry that she's been such a terrible sister.
She also ends up crying about all the pressure she feels to be perfect and not wanting to get married and basically Mirabel gets 21 years of emotional baggage and pent up frustration trauma dumped on her by her sobbing 4yo big sister.
Now, Mirabel had started to suspect that Is a remembered a little more that she was letting on, and had started to pick up on the way Abuelas focus had been wearing on Isa, but she was not prepared for...that.
So she just holds Isa while she lets it all out. Eventually Isa falls asleep on her, so Mira gets extra time to process everything she learned and piece it together with her own experiences and issues and comes to the same conclusion she does in the movie; both her and Isa had a lot more going on than either of them knew, and if anyone in their damn family was able to communicate properly, they'd all be much happier.
I haven't thought of how this will effect the events of the movie, or how Isa gets back to normal.
I have no coherent way to end this
~🍄
I like it, it is very good 👁👁 To be honest, everything looks great, I really do this it’s cool :))) Not surprised Isabela broke down to Mirabel of all people. After seeing how everyone really views her and all that, she feels like she can kind of relate to her in a cruel way so. I can see why she trusted her enough to spill. I also can not think of a way to end it, I suck at ending things <\\\333
Also if it’s a variant then. All I can think of is Isabela falling asleep next to Mirabel and waking up to a baby version fo her. Just four year old Isa insisting on always holding Mirabel practically dragging her around, trying to figure out how to fix the family and make them happy again. The sisters…what will they do, what chaos with the create…
Sad how since Isabela doesn’t have her gift and isn’t, or rather won’t, play into the Senorita Perfecta part, she stopped paying attention to her. Tragic 😕

Beauty, Brains, and Brawn
Was just talking about this with a mutual and I think the Beauty, Brains, and Brawn dynamic could apply to the other sets of siblings as well.
For PB&J I think that Julieta, Bruno, and Pepa would be the Beauty, Brains, and Brawn respectively. Julieta is the OG Senorita Perfecta, her gift involves the calming nurturing trait of healing, she plays a motherly role akin to a housewife, etc.. Bruno’s gift gives him immense knowledge of those who come to him for his prophecies, and his powers are sensory as well(not that I think he’s smarter than his sisters but still). Pepa is obviously the brawn. Please do not try arguing with me on this, she is obviously the brawn. She strikes me as the toughest of the triplets and is loud, assertive, and explosive with her emotions, and her gift itself reflects this by being arguably the most dangerous one.
For the Afrolatine siblings and this one is probably gonna be an unpopular opinion, but I’d have to say that Camilo is the Beauty, Dolores is the Brains, and Antonio is the Brawn. I know, but here me out. Camilo’s gift is all about appearance, particularly when he shapeshifts into hot people like Mariano. He’s also shown to be kind and nurturing like Julieta and takes a maternal instinct towards children in the opening song of the movie...also just like Julieta. Plus with his identity crisis and theatre kid persona, he’s always projecting a version of himself that he thinks other people will find the most appealing instead of his real, ugly flaws(and Beauty is often seen as the most “shallow” or useless of the three...). I mean it was literally a concept of him originally that the cute-looking boy we see throughout the movie was just another disguise of his(I’m glad they scrapped this btw? It was far too damn depressing even if this movie was for adults, just...no. Worse than Bubo and Princesa istg.). He strikes me as the type to think he has to be happy all the time because no one wants to see a sad face, similar to how Pepa was raised, maybe he learned it from her(as in, seeing how she was treated by Pepa, no way am I blaming her for this!). But maybe that’s just me.
As for Dolores, similar to Bruno(wow, like uncle, like niece!), she has a sensory gift and has knowledge on everybody in the village. It also makes the most sense for her to be the Brains of the three when you really think about it, after all, she’s the oldest and the wittiest and the gossip in New York City is insidious, she is forced to make a lot of difficult decisions due to her gift, such as deciding what is relevant to tell people and what is better off left under the wraps. She had to keep Bruno’s secret all these years because she knew the reaction would be terrible with the entire town hating him and even his own sister wanting to forget he exists. She had to tell everybody(well Camilo who then told Felix and then it became a game of telephone lol) that Mirabel found Bruno’s vision because that was a secret that NEEDED to be revealed to the rest of the family so as to warn them instantly! She’s also really skilled at having to censor and block out certain sounds, which must take a lot of hard work and mental fortitude to do, especially from the tender age of five. And let’s not forget that it’s her knowledge of Mariano that allowed her to win his love(and make my OTP happen).
Antonio is self-explanatory. He might be physically much weaker than Dolores and even Camilo(I mean he’s five unless he had Luisa’s gift the alternative would be embarrassing for anybody more than two years older than him lmao.), but his gift more than makes up for that. He’d never actually do it of course, but he COULD send his jaguar after you and maul you to death...or you could ignore this and say that he doesn’t control his animals, he just talks to them, and this is just Aisha being crazy.
Idk Isabela, Mirabel, and Luisa helped me to realize that I love the Beauty, Brains, and Brawn trope and trio/group tropes in general lol. But even if it’s not intended, I still think it could apply to those other than the three sisters. Such as the other sibling units. What do you think?

senorita perfecta twins au
Isa's had suitors before who have given her FLOWERS to the girl with plant powers, whenever this happens she waves her hand and kills them, then gives her suiters spikey surprises. But if she's given a flowerpot she takes it and goes out with them
