Actually, all of you should watch Kingdom on Netflix. It's actually one of the best zombie media released in the last 5 years. It's about a zombie outbreak during the medieval Joseon era in Korea and it is spectacular. The concept, the story, the characters and acting, the makeup for the zombies... it's all absolutely incredible.

Also. Surprisingly good comedy.

Anyway, badass women in the medical field, I love you and I'm sorry that modern feminism treats you like this.

I am blown away

I just binge watched this beauty and I am blown away. I usually hate zombie media (CoD II Zombie mode traumatized me) but honestly, this kdrama handles them in a way that makes them bearable and the series is so much more than just a zombie apocalypse. The historical setting, the characters, the political plot ... chefs kiss !! We need season 3 now !

Mini-review:

Someday or One Day is one of my favorite dramas, so I was both excited and wary about this remake. I have to say it doesn't fully capture the unrepeteable magic of the original, but as far as remakes go, this is a really good one. They kept the plot and the characters almost intact, and that's why it works. This story is just really f**king good, so as long as you stick to its essence, there's no way you'll end up with a bad show. This version is a bit more confusing, though, since they had to cut and sum up some stuff to fit everything into 12 one-hour episodes, but it still works. The acting is pretty great too. Jeon Yeo Been pulls off the dual role with ease, and I was pleasantly surprised by Ahn Hyo Seop's performance (although nobody will ever top Alice Ko and Greg Hsu). Tbh, my biggest complaint is the cinematography. This remake looks so bland and lifeless when compared to the original. Anyway, I had fun reliving this story through a slightly different lense, and I think A Time Called You will be immensely loved by k-drama fans who haven't watched the masterful original.

@nibeul​‘s got me thinking about Kingdom and having watched Ashin of the North again last month, I felt like making another post about the film.

I feel like we don’t talk enough about how smart Ashin is to have figured out how to use the resurrection plant based on the cave art she found. Like, it just said what the plant could do and illustrated how it infected the deer and tiger, not how to resurrect someone. She just figured out how to administer it and how long it would take to work all on her own with presumably no off screen trial and error before using it on her family. Edit: I think there was an image of the plant on a person’s head to imply that’s where it should be put, but there’s still a lot of gaps in that information for Ashin to fill on her own after interpreting the cave art. Long story short, Ashin is one smart cookie.

Also, I really want to know more about the area where the plant grew and how her community relates to it because her dad said their ancestors used to live in Pyesa-gun, so there’s obviously more for the plot to discuss. I don’t know what went down and I’m not sure if her dad knew what the plant could do but I’m assuming he was taught by his elders before him to stay away from that area not just because of the penalty for trespassing. Having watched it again, I just keep wondering how much Ashin’s dad knew about their history in relation to that area.

something I've also noticed with sageuk is that they tend to be the only (popular) dramas where you really see Koreans w tan/brown skin

#they're mostly extras but even some of the main cast.. it's funny cuz we're so used to seeing paper white actors #like there is noticeable skin tone variety instead of just really pale #seo bi is the lightest probably #many of the farmers have tan or brown skin though in episode 5 #it's unfortunate that this is probably more so due to colorism and how brown skin is associated with the working class #and based on the logic they were using yeong shin also should've had brown skin #but I digress
