THE QUESTION — He had one to ask his parents.
He had waited until his mom was home to drop the news. It would've been imprudent otherwise. Telling one parent first then the other later simply because it was convenient didn't feel good for him. Seong Taehoon caring about someone else's feelings other than his own... guess he really matured.
It was about time anyway, he was already in his early twenties. If there were times for growth, this was the best for it. These would be some of the most formative years of his life. With any luck, he wouldn't have to do it alone.
Yes, there'd be friends and family by his side, but what he had in mind carried a bit more weight. So he wanted to wait until both of his parents sat down at the dinner table before he dropped the bomb.
It would only be fitting. "I'm going to propose."
His dad almost dropped his chopsticks in surprise, his mouth gaped. His mom, however, stayed ever nonchalant. "Is that a statement or are you asking for permission?"
"Statement," Taehoon replied readily, he was ready for this, "I know I want to get married."
Well, he didn't know what it would entail. Not really. But his parents had been married for over twenty years and remained strong in their relationship, marriage couldn't have been that big of a struggle. Not if he continued to go at this pace with you anyway.
It was only a ring on your finger, some papers to get done. And if you wanted a wedding, then you'd have a wedding once the two of you figured the information out. Everything would've been fine.
His mother's reaction said as much. "Because if you have to ask me for permission, then you're unsure about whether if you wanted to do it or not," she nodded without any visible change in her expression, "I know who I raised, if you know you wanted to do it, then you'd do it, with or without permission."
"You're fine with it then?" Taehoon asked, to be sure.
His mom turned to his dad, "Do you have a problem?" The question before she put another piece of kimchi into her mouth and chewed.
The lapse of silence she left behind gave his dad the chance to speak up. With his son and wife setting the foundation of this conversation, he only needed to add on to it. "Of course not," Hansoo smiled genially, "as long as Taehoon is happy, I'm happy."
His mom nodded again, satisfied with the answer she heard. "Then there you have it." She turned back to Taehoon. "Have you picked out a ring for her?"
"No, I was going to ask then get a ring later." Taehoon found himself surprised with how smoothly the conversation was going. Surprised with how serious his mom was, even. Guess the two of them had their moments. "I figure she should have a say in it."
"Atta boy." She grinned in a way that Taehoon saw traces of his own reflection on her face, making him briefly wonder if he'd one day be in her position. "We did right with this one, didn't we, honey?"
His dad grinned back at his mom, pride blushed his cheeks pink. "I think we did all right, could've been way worse, all things considered."
As he said that, his mom inclined her head towards Taehoon, the smile plastered on her lips was cheeky beyond words. "Could've turned out like you, for example."
"Oh, no, we couldn't have that," his dad laughed, "our Taehoon would have to spend his life alone until someone took pity on him."
His mom snickered. "Well, someone did take pity on him anyway."
Well, for all the embarrassment he experienced with them, there'd be nobody else he'd rather have as parents. Even if they drove him to the wall at times.

Did you enjoy my misery yesterday, wearing that damn maid outfit? Halloween’s over. It’s time to be a good Taekwondo student and prepare for the first belt test.
Some bigots attacked me last night for being a homo (I only answered 1 ask, the rest was blocked).
Of course I kicked them out. No asshole on my blog.
And they were gone forever. Poof! Shoo! Fuck off!
The evils were defeated. Peace was brought back. But…it’s getting kinda boring, don’t ya think?
There are 6 of us being active in YHC: Yoo Hobin, Woo Jihyeok, Ga Eul, Yeo Rumi, Hwang Mangi and I, Seong Taehoon. Plus 2 allies: Han Wanguk and Ji Yeonwoo. And uncle Birdie 244. Baek Seongjoon’s gone, and I highly doubt he’ll come back. Joo Jisoo though, he’ll be back soon.
Where are the others? I’m bored and need something to do. Someone to talk to and bully.
Where’s my dad, Seong Hansoo? He should be here to supervise you guys. Where’s Logan Gracie? I wanna learn from him too.
Where are Kim Moonseong, Choi Bomi, Lee Hyeonsoo and Han Gyeoul?
WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE THEY?
If you know where they are, please call or message @yoo-hobin. He’ll take care of them.
My duty’s done. Peace.✌️
