Since it seems I need to make this clearer.

Seperate the art from the artist.

The Harry Potter world is good as inspiration (in my opinion). JK Rowling is a terrible human.

James Pattersons writing is fantastic (again, my opinion). Hes still a horrible person that steals ideas.

Peoples art may be nice, but that doesnt mean they are.

This works in the opposite direction. People with terrific art may seem daunting to talk to, but they could be a nerd like me.

If everyone liked art depending on the people who made it, then we wouldnt like anything. Everyone has their flaws. No one has to support their flaws. (I'm still saying Rowling and Paterson are terrible people that I'd hate to meet.)

I am not my art, and my art is not me. If I want to use the Harry Potter world as inspiration for a HP au, that doesnt mean I support Rowling or anything she stands for.

Seperate the art from the artist.

Seperating the Work from the Author

I love how there are Harry Potter Fans, who don't want to think about any of the stuff that JK has done or said, simply stating "Just seperate the art from the artist" and things along those lines so that they can go on and keep enjoying Harry Potter without ever needing to question whether or not they should maybe move on to something else. But as soon as you criticize JK in any way that isn't related to her work directly (like how she keeps digging that holeon the whole trans debate or how she uses the name of a Conversion Therapist as a pen name for her crime books), you will have dozens of PotterHeads run up to you and tell you all about how it's not cool to hate on Harry Potter like that or that they grew up with that series and that they can't stand people making fun of it. Not once did anyone mention the quality of Harry Potter or anything along those lines, but because JK and Harry Potter are so closely linked to each other, any form of criticism on JK will be seen as a critique on Harry Potter itself. If you feel the need to get upset at someone and defend Harry Potter and you being a fan of it, because that person said something about JK, you can't use the argument of seperating the Art from the Artist. Of course there are many other reasons that you can name for why continuing to pretend that consuming more Harry Potter is completely fine because you don't agree with JK (who is spending a lot of time, money and her platform to actively make the lives of trans people worse), isn't really the best option, but I just thought that the behaviour of PotterHeads who don't want to think about JK in response to when someone criticizes JK exclusively, rather funny. tl;dr A lot of Potterheads love to say that you should seperate Harry Potter from JK, but act like Harry Potter is being attacked if you criticize JK Rowling

One thing for those who have watched The Boy and The Heron or will watch it. The Japanese title for it is How Do You Live? And Miyazaki stated he was leaving it for his grandson, saying, "Grandpa is moving onto the next world soon but he is leaving behind this film".

The deaths of contemporaries and friends such as Satoshi Kon and Isao Takahata and also the expected successor of Yoshifumi Kondo were things that have always weighed heavily on the back of Miyazaki's mind.

He recognizes the industry and the occupation for how soul crushing it was, grinding up either the spirit or the physical body of those who work in it. He loves and hates the industry he stands on the peak of and fully recognizes how it will probably be the death of him. And he knows it'll leave him unable to say a lot of things to his Grandson.

So How Do You Live? is a lesson. For his grandson. For himself. For his two sons. And probably for anyone else willing to pay attention.

Hayao Miyazaki is a flawed man that makes things so important to so many people. And I think more than any other film of his, in this you get to pull back the curtain a bit and see him at work. And what should be this giant unblemished titan can be seen for what he is, a sad old man who had higher hopes for himself and has even higher hopes for the people he makes his work for.

It's a beautiful thing to see another's humanity in their work. To look past the artifice and glam of commercialized art and find humans behind it. And humans willing to show their humanity and mortality is even rarer. And something to be celebrated. So when you watch it. Or if you've watched it already. Understand that this film is Miyazaki kneeling down, weary after years of weaving dreams and making mistakes, reaching out and saying to you that he hopes you can do better. It's an old man who's made all the mistakes of the world passing it on to you, hoping you do better, and making sure you know it's okay if you don't.

How do you Live? By making mistakes. By messing up. But still moving forward. And still reaching out.

Wow, if this isn’t some of the biggest pieces of hypocrisy from this fandom, I don’t know what is. Also to quote my friend on this:

“Hunter and the stans legit went “it’s not a contest!” whenever other shows were seen as better and got more attention but suddenly the others outright “don’t deserve” whenever Vivziepop is praised? Talk about disgusting. 😬”

Also, I guess to Vivziepop giving credit and supportng artists “only” matters to her when it’s someone who praises her...

Otherwise… she didn’t give them credit!

The fact that they couldn’t edit the credits isn’t an excuse. This kind of situation has only happened to people who outwardly spoke out about their treatment within Spindlehorse! As mentioned last year: Cas wanted to be paid, but only didn’t after they spoke out. (Mentioned in the video posted down below.) -and now, after speaking out, Squidder wasn’t credited for their work on the “Oops!” episode of Helluva Boss.

If Vivziepop actually cared about her studio, making sure that everyone is paid well, not just her mutuals, and that EVERYONE GETS CREDIT should be top priority. The fact that the only people who outright did not get paid or credited for their art for Vivziepop are people who spoke out about Vivienne’s behavior (Squidder and Cas, please do not harass anyone mentioned in this post.) is an actually horrible situation. This can’t be described as a “coisidence” anymore. People need to learn that you can enjoy something without tolerating all the bad behavior and hypocrisies from a creator. It doesn’t matter if you like someone’s art.

Don’t tolerate awful behavior!

i havent had the same kind of motivation to do finished character work like i used to for a while but i think that might actually be a good thing? im able to spend a lot of time on a single piece cos it doesnt feel like i’ll die if i dont get it Out like before. my motivation now is much more patient, about making something Good more than something i Need to make. its nice :-)
