Post Processing Software Really is Something Else These Days

So this is a single frame from a shoot out under the stars in the California desert a couple months back.

It is shot at ISO 3200, 20 seconds at f/2.8.

It was a throw away frame from a set I was shooting to stack in Sequator. It's a throw away because a car way off in the distance behind me turned it's headlights on and sat there for a while. This flooded my foreground with a level of sidelight and contrast that I just didn't want for my image. Because of this I decided to omit it from my stack, and instead process it as a lone image to see how good Adobe's new de-noise option is (inside Lightroom and CameraRAW).

The short version is that it's pretty darn good.

It was 100 ° at 11 o'clock at night, and this shot is 50-something in on a series of 20 second exposures at ISO 3200. This means my sensor was likely VERY warm, and as such would have flooded the image with noise and hot pixels.

Adobe's de-noise software really does seem to work like a charm and took care of a ton of the noise without destroying the details in the foreground and (more importantly for me) the sky.

'Nuff said.

I just, really, really don't like having to deal with stranger's weird ass political views as if I've said or shared anything particularly radical. I'm a lot more politically aware than I ever wanted to be /because/ it matters that much to me on a daily basis. Plus, non-sequators always tick me off. "YOU DON'T AGREE WITH THIS THING SO OBVIOUSLY YOU AGREE WITH THE OTHER THING" like no fool, I just look up what a politician's views of Black and Indigenous people are and can connect the dots of "oh another racist white man" from there. I'm just trying to survive till I can leave the country cause this shit sucks.

Here's a picture of the Milky way I shot last year around June that I haven't shared before which I'm not sure why haha.

I shot the sky with my Skywatcher Star Adventurer tracker and stacked 15 frames in sequator and then I shot a long exposure image for the foreground and blended them together in Photoshop and used Photoshop and Lightroom to do the final edits.

Sky: 15 frames stacked.

A few weeks ago Neal Grosskopf messaged me and druuuuuuug me out to shoot....ok, more like I have been telling him for like 6 months I wanted to go back out to Cana Island and shoot and he let me know it was clear so I made the journey up. ;) And for good reason as you can see. This is a 6 image stack (though I'm not entirely sure I would have needed to stack it) I stacked this in Sequator, then edited in LR/PS to produce this. ~always be ready to change your plan if it doesn’t go well. It requires some bravery, and of course determination. Last night we drove to a location east of Toronto to capture Milky Way reflected in a pond I had been to winter time. Took us 1.5 hour to get there, in a remote conservation area, only to find out we can only hear the frogs in the pond, because of the dense and tall vegetation acting as a barrier between us. What a blow. So we left and headed to the location I had tried a few times (check out my previous post) a little further east. I shout another time lapse for 40 minutes while watching shooting stars, and got bored doing the same thing I already had done twice the same week. So I checked out the map and did a fairly quick research to see if I can find anything interesting that has the potential for the reflection I was looking for. I convinced my already exhausted wife and partner in crime to tolerate another half an hour of drive in countryside, and so glad we did it! 1- 8 photos stacked in Sequator. All 13 seconds of exposure at f/2.8, ISO 5000, 16 mm 2- same location, single shot. If you zoom in you’d see less number of stars and detail, plus more noise (because of high ISO) 3- I tried to get creative with the old location, and those interesting looking clouds and the wave breaker/extension in the foreground came to the rescue.
