For any diaspora Nikkei who don’t know what dialect/ language their family spoke, some of these recordings might be kind of fun. The National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics made a bunch of field recordings back in the late 60s to early 70s. The above page has samples of both the transcripts and the audio files. The links labeled 本文 are PDFs containing transcripts. The links labeled 音声ファイル are the audio files (some recordings have more than one audio file). Each set of files (1-15) is for a different area. Some of these municipalities no longer exist, and the current name has been provided in parentheses.

Chapter 9 Sesoko Bīchiセソコビーチ Pg 8

opening his mouth to respond, Eji was interrupted by an announcement over the loudspeaker.

{Greetings to our travellers today. The Ferry has begun loading, Please make your way to the gangways and have your tickets ready.}

Turing to Hanna without saying a word Eji picked up her bag with his and walked towards the doors leading to the ramps. Sitting stunned Hanna could only watch as she was not sure what just happened. Shaking her head she snapped out of her shock and ran up behind the group as they finished boarding. 

Standing alone at the stern of the ferry Yoi watched Motobu shrink away behind them. He could almost still hear his old man grumbling about having to run the burger bar on his own for a few days. 

“Hey Yoi? can we talk?” Standing behind him Katomi had joined him at the back of the gently rolling ferry.  Turning to her he replied with a simple “sure” the same as he had always been. 

Leaning against the handrail with his elbows hanging over the edge behind him Yoi stretched his back while waiting for her to begin talking. 

“Do you remember our first day of senior school?” she asked without looking at him.

“Of course. you, me, Kaito and Hanna we all walked together.  We have been going to school together since. Well, I can't remember not going to school without you in the same class.” Looking at the side of her head he could see that she was thinking hard about what she was saying.

“Do you remember what happened on the bridge?” Pausing to think Yoi rubbed the back of his neck. 

“Oh yeah, a few weeks in some of the older girls threw your bag into the river.” Turning to face her he continued. Kaio and I found you on the bridge crying and I jumped in to get it while he chased the girls all the way to their house.”

Smiling she replied. “Yeah, you two were like my big brothers. I was so small and niave then. I thought those girls were cool and wanted to be just like them.” Hiding her face in her hands she began to weep at the memory. 

“Why bring that up now? It was 3 years ago?” turning and looking back over the handrail he could just make out the rocky bottom of the bay that separated Motobu and Sesko Island. 

Mumbling through her hands he could not really make out what she was saying. “Sorry, Katomi I can’t hear you like that.” reaching out he gently took her hand and pulled it away from her face. 

“I said why did she have to come along?” Snapping as her hand was pulled away from her face. “Why did you have to fall for the new girl and leave me behind.” slapping his hand away Katomi turned and ran back into the cabin of the ferry. Leaving Yoi alone and confused at the handrail.

Fun diving at Motobu!!!

もとぶでファンダイビングでした！

1st dive site is WHITE HOTEL, which is beautiful white sand & reefs dive site.

1本目は、ホワイトホテルというダイビングポイント。白い砂地とリーフのまったり系ダイビングです。

2nd site is Sesoko island, LABYRINTH.

2本目は瀬底島へ！洞窟で人気ポイント、ラビリンスで潜りました。

So different scenery, dynamic caves and corals on the reefs!!!

洞窟のダイナミックな地形と、リーフの上のもりもりサンゴのコントラストが素晴らしいです。

At 3rd site, back to main island, SALT RIVER.

So many types of corals are living here!!!

We saw a turtle which was swimming incredibly fast lol.

3本目は本島沿い、塩川というポイントで。

ここはサンゴの種類が豊富！カメも見れましたが、ものすごく速く泳いで逃げていきました笑

So fun 3 diving!!!

楽しい3本でしたね！

Chapter 9 Sesoko Bīchiセソコビーチ Pg 2

“You better not have peeked then Yoi.” running a finger down his spine. 

Shivering as she ran her finger down his back, an involuntary squeaking  sound filled the room.

“Ohhh what was that noise Yoi? That was almost cute.” Running her finger back up his spine, he again let out the cute sound. 

“Heyyy y-you can stop that.” Stammering as she played around on  his sensitive back. “Someone Will hear me making that sound and think its you.”

Freezing as he spoke, the thought of someone hearing them and finding Yoi in her room while she was just in her underwear made her break out in a cold sweat.  Reaching past him she quickly opened the door and giving his back one last swipe with her hand, she shoved him out the door.  “Well you better leave then!”

“Hey wait!” Trying to stop himself being pushed out the door Yoi quickly grabbed the frame. as he tried to turn Miu quickly covered his eyes with both her hands. 

“Bend down Yoi.” Almost whispering Miu moved close to him. 

Bending down he wasn’t sure what to expect. Feeling her warm breath close to his face, he could feel his heart race. Still with his eyes covered he could make out her moving in front of him. Feeling something being placed in his hands he swallowed heavily. 

Kissing his ear Miu gave him one final shove out the door and slammed it shut. “Please tell Hana i will be down soon for breakfast.” calling out through the door her voice seemed more timid than normal.

Not sure what he was feeling in his hand, he began to fumble the material around in his fingers. Feeling it was warm to the touch he slowly opened them in front of his eyes. Quivering in shock at what he was seeing in his hands, he started to make involuntary gulping sounds. “P-p-pantsu! Miu why have I got your pantsu!!!!!” 

Not answering him, she could feel her face burning from embarrassment. Clasping her head in her hands she shook it from side to side. Diving back onto her bed Miu kicked her legs and rolled around until the embarrassment started to go away. Sighing into her pillow she looked out the window to the Island they would soon be visiting.
