I started my sleeveless shirt (a REAL shirt with buttons and a proper collar and collar stand and all that) and it's going okay but now I'm at the scary time of attaching the collar to the stand and it's hard so I'm laying on the floor stretching my back out instead.

Thinking about, the hat Sabo wore as a kid was something he simply fished out of the grey terminal. It was old it was dingy but he called it his. Though one day when it tore at the top he almost cried freaking out and begged Dadan to fix it since Makino wouldn’t be coming back for at least another week. And now Dadan is not one to admit she knows more feminine skills, she wants to look tough but seeing Sabo’s face she instead decides to teach him the basics so he can fix it himself. And this is one of Sabo’s first hands on lessons ever. Being shown how to do it rather than told twenty times and while he was not the best and his hand not at all as steady as needed. He was so proud of his hat’s temporary fix. He ended up stitching up some of the big tears in his coat and even his brothers clothes upon their request and he got better.
Makino of course was delighted to find out Sabo was learning such a skill and taught him some old tricks as well as a few stitch types when she fixed his hat and it was what really help Sabo bond with Makino.
After loosing his memories Sabo never really forgot the skill much like his combat ability though he didn’t discover it till years later when Koala’s shirt tore on a mission and he on instinct was like “I can fix that :0!” And after a bit of fuss and banter Koala’s shirt was fixed up enough to survive the battle and Iva had SO MANY QUESTIONS when they got back.

Goth DIY: Altered Clothing part 1
Since some of you crafty goths were interested in seeing the clothing I've altered, I decided to compile it all in one place! I hope I can inspire your creations, give you ideas, and teach you new techniques. This will be a long post, since I've been making alterations to my clothing since high school, which also means some of these projects aren't as polished as others, since they were made when I was newer to DIY and have mistakes I've since learned from, but that's okay! Goth doesn't have to be polished and perfect, and don't let the fear of mistakes stop you from creating!
I've already done posts about the shorts and pants I've gothified, so part 1 will focus on t-shirts, camisoles, and button-up shirts. Part 2 will have sweaters, skirts, and dresses. Some alterations are as easy as adding safety pins or lace trim, and others involve more sewing. Lots of these are very beginner-friendly projects and take less than an hour. All of these items were completely plain when I got them--anything metal, lace, embroidered, or painted that you see was added by me. I'll add more about each garment in the image descriptions. As always, feel free to message me if you want better or more thorough instructions or DIY advice. I'm here to be a resource to my fellow crafters! <3
(Also, please pardon the cat hair and my hair on the clothes--I don't take perfect pictures. A couple pics are also old since those shirts are in storage so I could make room for my winter wardrobe, so you'll notice a change in backdrop and a dirty mirror.)
Let's start with t-shirts and camisoles! Use an old shirt, a thrifted shirt, a shirt from Walmart, etc.! I like to get plain unisex t-shirts from Walmart and paint on them using freezer paper stencils, bleach them, shred them, and/or add safety pins to them. The camis also came from Walmart, and I changed the necklines and added lace trim to make them cuter.
To make a sweetheart neckline on a cami, you can cut it, or you can just pinch the middle and sew it into place (I did that for all of them except the black and white one--that one ended up a little lower-cut than I meant it to, so I decided to stick with the pinching method). The lace trim I used on the black camis isn't stretchy, but still works just fine, as long as you pin it into place while you're wearing the shirt and stretch the shirt a bit as you sew to maintain stretch in those areas. Stretchy lace, like I used on the pink and red camis, works a bit better, but is harder to find. I still like pinning the lace while I'm wearing the shirt to get the placement down, but if you wear a bra, make sure you're wearing the one you plan on wearing with the shirt while placing the lace. I found it doesn't sit right with bras that fit a little differently than the one I based the placement on.
The long-sleeved Emily the Strange shirt has a neat detail, albeit a wonky one because my placement is a bit off sometimes. You'll notice two little striped triangles at the bottom. I cut slits in the shirt and added triangles of striped stretchy fabric, then sewed zippers over top of them to hide the seams and add extra detail. I also sewed the zippers on with red thread for contrast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My button-ups are a bit more involved. I treat them like how I treat shorts--patches, lace, embroidery, pins, grommet tape, D-rings, charms, chains, oh my! The pink one is my most recent, and I'm so proud of it. All of the patches came from ToothxNail on Etsy, except the Rat King patch, which came from Katiewhittleart on Etsy. The flowers on the collar were buttons that I glued onto flat-back pins from a craft store (I used E6000 glue). Made super quick collar pins that I can remove when washing the shirt or put on something else when I want.
The orange button-up was by far the simplest. I just added lace trim to the cuffs and cropped it (it had been high-low, but I wanted to wear it tucked into a skirt and the long back was annoying me). I also added collar clips with a chain that I got at a craft fair, but that's more like styling an accessory with it than altering it, since I can just un-clip them.
The leather jacket is old and doesn't fit well, so I don't wear it anymore, but I kept it because it was my first leather jacket. Adding the sew-on studs and faux-fur trim on the neck took the longest. You'll also notice that a mouse chewed a hole in the outer shell on the pocket.

Thinking about my neurology appointment again, I have another weird question for y'all! My neurologist was surprised and said it was weird I was right handed, which I am assuming is because of the reflex and grip tests she did, not because I give off a left-handed kind of vibe Wait I was going to ask if it was weird that I, a non-ambidextrous person, hit and kick evenly with both right and left sides, open doorknobs with whichever hand is closer, and use the foot pedal for the sewing machine with whichever foot it ends up nearer but can't write with my left hand But I just tried it and I can write with my left hand??? Like, not as neatly or as quickly as with my right, but it's clearly legible and not difficult to do. Have I been ambidextrous this entire time??

Hello! I just wanted to say your work is absolutely amazing!! Aside from the fact that you made me cry a little from the fragile reader story! You are extremely talented! And I absolutely admire how you were able to include the reader but also keep the character’s personality (from my perspective) accurate!
Anyways just a silly thought, I like to imagine fragile reader back in the academy days stitching Zandiks clothes back up. Due to budget and lack of time he wouldn’t really care if there was a tear or a seam ripped off. That’s when reader would steal his uniform for a brief moment and stitch it back up. Of course many centuries later with the illness and due to shaky hands, it wouldn’t be easy, but seeing one of the clones having a small tear or seam ripped just irked them the wrong way. Causing omegas gloves or betas tie to disappear for a brief moment, only to be returned stitched back up (a little sloppy)
(I also like to imagine fragile reader randomly walking over to one of the clones and hugging them from behind before pulling (kidnapping) one of them back to fragile readers bed.)
Just a goofy thought
AWW ANON... 🥹 YOU ARE TOO KIND! I'm honored you feel that way, and I'm so happy you like my writing that much <33 (and here are a few tissues and hugs, mwah mwah, this is so so sweet of you 💗) AND THIS IDEA,, chewing on it!!
Oh you definitely did stitch up Dottore's clothing back then. You always sigh when you see another tear in his clothes, why can't he be more careful? With all the deserted ruins and old machines he deals with, his clothes always seem to catch on something... too bad he's far too occupied with his research to care about something like that. (And let's not get started on the ink spills from breaking his pens all the time...) But that's okay! You always liked doing little things for Zandik, even if he didn't notice them (right away, at least). So when he shed his clothes to shower, you just snatch them up for a quick fix! (Zandik doesn't even realize they were fixed until a while later. Feels an odd sense of... warmth? He was surprised you even noticed some of them, they're not very noticeable at first glance. After the burst of warmth, he mumbles to himself about how you always spend your time doing 'useless things' and how it 'wasn't even bothering him.' (He's in love.)
Even with your illness, your desire to help him with the little things hasn't changed, in fact, it extended to all his other segments of course! Omega's gloves sliced by the scalpel? Beta's experiment exploded? You're tip-toeing over quietly and stealing their stuff and retreating to your room, intent on putting all of your effort into fixing the accessories! It's... a lot of work, and you may have begun to worry if you accidentally made it worse but! You still have it in you! You sneak into the segments' rooms and place their clothing on the bed! (Unfortunately, they may or may not be trying to rip their clothes on purpose so they can get your attention. Also, you may have poked yourself with the needle a few times, don't let them know.)
Fragile reader has stolen segments numerous times and each of the clones are DESPERATE to be chosen by you... i have this little hc that whenever fragile reader struggles to fall asleep they just wake into the lab in the middle of the night (that is still very busy, they don't sleep) and the segments are all internally freaking out over why you're not in bed. Are you not feeling well?? And you're just like,, 'I can't sleep, i need cuddles :(' (every single one of them volunteers)

I made this!!!! I'm so pleasantly surprised by how it's come together that I don't even want to talk about the little things that could be better. But I will because it's good to note your learnings.
It's too big, because I use tiny seam allowances but also because the size is just a bit big and it's a boxy shape. I'm going to take in the sides about an inch each and maybe add back darts if it needs more?
Despite measuring my buttonhole spaces they are Not Even. The top one and the bottom one are further away than the middle 3 are from each other. I can disguise this by adding 2 more buttons I think. But that means going to the shops so is a later problem.
I overcast the seams inside so it should wash and wear fine, but I think I'll reinforce the machined button holes by hand to avoid the fraying there, and there's a tiny bit where the seams arent all tucked in in the stand, because although I tried to stick to instructions there the stand is a touch shorter than the front panel. It's like 2mm, but could become bigger with washing so I'll figure something out.
And the print is probably upside down.
BUT I STILL LOVE IT. I'm gonna wear the shit out of it I just KNOW. It looks great with blue and it'll work with my orange work pants too. I don't think anyone would really notice the little wonks unless I said it's handmade. It just looks like real clothes! Knowing that I can make a Proper shirt, and it looks GOOD and was only a little scary is really exciting. I reckon I'll want to go again in a few months, but I don't need any more shirts for work or otherwise so no rush.

"astarion would make sweeping romantic gestures astarion would get his partner flowers and chocolate and book a restaurant and-"
no. you want wyll or gale or karlach. astarion's sweeping romantic gesture would be " is that guy bothering you queen. want me to kill him. im killing him."
i feel like the most genuinely romantic things he'd possibly do is bring random shit that reminds him of his partner and dump it on their door. rip out someone's heart and hand it over. after drinking from it.

For my birthday this year I finally made this dress wearable again!
I made this dress a couple years ago and accidentally made the elastics at the waist too tight (which made the dress very uncomfortable to wear). I sometimes really dread alterations and keep procrastinating on them for no real reason.
I only removed the elastics from the waist part and haven't added new (less tight) ones yet. The dress is already wearable as is, though I noticed another problem: I didn't have lots of fabric when I made this dress and the patchwork bodice is a bit shorter than usual for this pattern. So now this annoys me and I think about elongating the bodice somehow... sigh... would be a lot of work though!
[id]5 pictures in total.
Picture 1: a group selfie featuring three young white women (including OP). Two of them have brown hair and the third one brightly dyed red hair. OP is in the middle: a fat woman with glasses, wearing her brown hair open with two small decorative braids framing her face. She's wearing a green patchwork dress, mixed with cream coloured fabric with pink roses on it and white fabric with pink/violett hearts and green ornaments on it. The bodice is finished with cream-coloured lace bias binding. She's wearing a flower crown with green vines and white, pink & magenta coloured flowers on it (a birthday present from a friend from some years ago).
Her brown-haired friend is a bit chubby as well, with a short braid. She's wearing a cheerful yellow top with white daisies on it! She's wearing fancy brown macrame style earrings. Unfortunately her beautiful tree necklace made with buttons is not visible in the picture, you can only see the leather string of the necklace.
The third friend is thin and slender, but also sharing something with OP: she's also wearing glasses. She's wearing a pink bow in her red hair, as well as a pink "tattoo style" elastic necklace. She's wearing an off-white crochet shawl lent to her by OP over her white shirt.
The women are all smiling, it's clearly a happy day!
Picture 2: A close-up of the patchwork dress turned inside out. It shows the middle part, made of green gingham with the too-tight elastic still sewn into it.
Picture 3: A close-up of the bodice and waist-part of patchwork dress being worn with the too-tight elastic removed from the waist.
Picture 4:
An almost full body shot of OP: a young fat white woman with glasses and long brown hair. She's wearing most of her hair open and it falls in a wave over her shoulders. Two thin decorative braids frame her face and give her an elven look. One of the braids is tangled with the strap of her sand-coloured crocheted bag in this picture. The bag is decorated with a green bow with a floral pattern on it! She's wearing a flower crown with white, pink and magenta coloured flowers on it, they are made from wire and nailpolish (an old birthday present from a friend of hers). The star of the show is the patchwork dress: made out of green fabric with a gingham pattern (there are darker green patches and lighter green patches), green gingham patches with flowers printed on it, creme coloured patches with pinkish roses on them and green patches with pinkish roses on them. Mixed with it is a white fabric with violet coloured hearts and green ornamental swirls on it and a cream-coloured fabric covered with strips of lace. The lace fabric has also been turned into bias tape for the binding of the neckline and the arm holes of the dress. The dress is decorated with side gores made out of the white fabric with violet coloured hearts on it. The gores are decorated with a thick green lace. Yellow lacy sleeves of a shirt are visible under the bodice of the dress and a amber coloured bracelet can be seen on the left wrist. The woman is standing in front and among some lush greenery (trees and bushes), adding to the elfen look of her outfit.
Picture 5: A full body shot of the above described woman. She's standing on a path next to some hedges and trees. The picture is blurred - like you were trying to take a picture of some otherwordly fae perhaps...?[/id]

Oh man.
Now that I’ve started mending the cub rub in my pants, I feel like it’ll never end!
I’ve already had to mend 2 of my pants again, and a third that I need to med for the first time.
At least it only takes about an hour to do the initial mend, and adding squares for some structural stability.
But I’m disheartened that they only last about a week before I have to patch again :(
I’m sure it’s because 1)I’m fat, 2) I sweat a LOT (which is hard on my clothes), and 3) I work a VERY physical job where I’m walking and bending almost constantly.
At least these pants are staying out of the waste stream. Which is a win!
But I’m gonna research how to make mends last longer, because it’s getting a bit ridiculous at this point.
Unless anyone has any suggestions?
