It must be the rarest pairing but I kinda ship Padma and Ginny
Like the way Padma hugged her and something about exes of the same person ending up together speaks to me like Korrasami and maybe I kinda ship Adam and Rahim too

im kind of over the sex ed casting thing (im not) but im mostly just sad that we had to figure out that chaneil, sami and chris were gone and didn’t get it in an interview or announcement. the three have been a part of the show for years (chaneil and chris from the very beginning) so it just feels a tad disrespectful to not announce it or something? idk

SEX EDUCATION SPOILERS!!!!!!
rewatching Sex Ed before s4 comes out in september and have finally realized that Eric cheating should not have been that shocking. At the end of s2 he publicly admits his feelings to Adam while still being in an explicit (and i’m assuming exclusive) relationship with Rahim. Sure all they do is hold hands but it makes his actions in Nigeria Much more on brand. It’s a bummer that he sucks like that but a relief that his actions in s3 are in character and not a random writing choice to push the plot

Do you know if Rahim will be on this final season of Sex Ed? I didn't see him in that teaser, that's why I'm asking. I know it's just a teaser so it might not mean anything but I'm worried because I want him on the show.
I was also surprised not to see Rahim, but tbh I wouldn't worry in advance. From what I know Sami Outalbali wasn't among the cast members who said they wouldn't come back for the fourth season, so I think he will be back indeed. We will just have to wait and see until the proper trailer release, as well as promotional press releases etc.
Not to mention,
Tumblr media
This is an excerpt from an interview with Sami for the Attitude Magazine, from a special edition of the magazine to commemorate the release of the third season, back in autumn 2021. There were interviews with the main cast members who play queer characters (Sami Outalbali, Ncuti Gatwa, Connor Swindells, Patricia Allison, Tanya Reynolds), and just. Well. If he doesn't in fact come back then it's just me lying to myself, but tbh I do feel like Rahim's story on the show is far from over, and we will see more of him in just over two months ☺️

Sex Education: Raising The Standard for Representing LGBTQ+ in The Entertainment Industry
Tumblr media
Sex Education has indeed established itself as one of the most enlightening programs on adolescence and sexuality, but with the release of its second season, it raises the standard for complex representations of LGBTQ+ youth. By the time Sex Education season two's closing titles appear, the well-liked Netflix series is one of the queerest adolescent comedies ever; about half of the key characters have displayed queerness in some form.
Ncuti Gatwa's portrayal in Sex Education's first season exposed us to the unashamed, unrepentant Eric Effiong. Although he is close friends with the main character Otis Milburn, the program never treats him as the cliché homosexual best buddy or comedic relief. Sure, he's extremely entertaining and isn't scared to show off when it comes to his costumes, but Sex Education has always presented Eric as a complex individual. He has his own moral principles, which include his religion and the church family to which he belongs to. Also important is the fact that he is of Ghanaian and Nigerian heritage in a largely white LGBTQ+ television environment. One of the most progressive LGBT characters on television is Eric, especially with all of his qualities. Although, to be honest, it does so by employing one of the oldest tactics in the book—a love triangle—season two advances Eric's plot. However, heterosexual characters have traditionally been the only ones who had access to this narrative device. Rarely do queer characters ever have the chance to date one possible partner, much less two. The classic tension of who will he choose is used in the love triangle, but ultimately, it doesn't matter which boy Eric likes more; rather, it matters which one makes Eric feel more like himself. Even his mother can see the differences between the two as they compete for her son's affection. In the end, Eric picks Adam, one of the few bisexual young men on television. Adam's path of self-discovery and acceptance serves as a reminder that there are indeed plenty adolescents who battle with their identity, even though characters like Eric and Rahim are proud of their identity from the start. It also serves as a reminder that there is hope and that loving yourself will enable you to truly embrace everyone else. Ola, who discovers she is pansexual after her separation with Otis and the emergence of love for her friend Lily, joins Adam under the bisexual umbrella. She stands in stark contrast to Adam since Ola is willing to embrace rainbows and give tailored menswear her own unique twist after taking a little online exam to accept who she is. Ola and Adam are coworkers at the convenience store, and their relationship turns out to be one of Sex Education's most delightful and unexpected outcomes. Although their shared interest adds a new dimension to their relationship, their sexual orientation is not always what forges their bond.
While Sex Education receives acclaim for exposing the diversity of queerness, fans of the show would love to see a trans character be included in its plot. In the end though, it's so thrilling that about half the cast of a popular TV show may identify as gay in some way. It's not only that these LGBTQ+ characters in Sex Education fit a certain standard, though. The way they are incorporated into the program is how. Their sexuality is an element of their identity that impacts several other aspects of who they are, but it's not the entirety of who they are, as you can see in the care with which their narratives are portrayed. It's a vital part of their identity, and it motivates some of their decisions and behaviors, but not all of them. They are present, they identify as queer, but they are also let to be whole, multifaceted people.

I love Sex Ed but I will forever resent how they made Eric not only break up with Rahim but get together with ADAM of all things 🙄

So things definitely stay fraught and complex as we reach midseason on Sex Ed’s sophomore year. Maeve confronts Otis about her feelings for him, Ola confronts Otis about his feelings for Maeve, Adam takes Eric out for a secret night-date shortly before Rahim asks him out... and Jean very nearly fucks Remy (Otis’ dad).
There’s a bunch of other subplots but the core theme here is clearly a tangled rush of hormones and desires, it’s Ever Fallen In Love With Someone, it’s greener grass on the other side and people who make you feel things you can’t help, even when they threaten to destabilize good things in your life.
None of this is the most shockingly original or challenging ground the show has visited to date, more a natural blossoming of seeds long sewn, the teen romantic melodrama genre entering the fraught soap opera phase of its lifecycle, where everyone is having emotional affairs.
In which case I’d like to resolve by highlighting some notes outside the centre of the whirling plot spiral -
1) Called it on Jackson having a ways to go as a young thespian and having been hired more as stunt casting.
2) We get our first hint at the eventual out of an Ola/Lily romance here and I find the prospect delightful.
3) I’ve encountered vague suggestions that Florence, as a character, is a bit hit & run in terms of putting some asexual rep in such a sex focussed show, and fair enough I can see the room for frustration there (not least she’s fantastic and I will be annoyed when they stop writing her into episodes), however since she is literally someone I already know to a tee I have to give them considerable marks for compellingly on point representation.

- Jean screaming at the male doctor specialized in women’s reproductive system
- Jean driving so much around Jakob’s place of work and chickening out in the last minute only for him to believe she was stalking him and her finally getting out of the car
- Adam hugging Madam after the break-up (anything that Madam does I love the Kardashian of tiny dogs)
- “Did you little dog win?”
- the mutual solidarity between Adam and Rahim
- Michael Groff finally experiencing joy while cooking and him telling of his brother
- Any moments between Ruby and Adam and Ola and Adam
- Hope and Ruby’s catfight (anything that Ruby does also)
- Jackson going on a run with his mom
- Vic telling that french woman about her bf in a public restroom
- Mr Hendricks looking around the headteacher’s office and considering applying for the position
- Mr Hendricks offering to give the driver 20 euros to get back on schedule only for him to continue scrolling his phone and then barely avoiding traffic accidents
- Anything regarding his and Ms Sands’ relationship (also I love Emily)
- Ms Sands unplugging the toilet while talking about helping students achieve their potential
-That couple that pops out of nowhere and has sex everywhere
- Dex running with the goat
- Adam sniffling the mic in E1

you didn't ask but i gotta say: i think what really pisses me off about the whole thing is that they made eric cheat twice and it's getting to a point where people consider it character trait
whilst i understand that eric wants to be out and proud - and it's something he totally deserves to do - i just hate that they had him cheat again 😭 like was that really necessary? there are other ways to have this conversation, @ writers room!!!
it feels even extra stupid when you consider that he cheated on rahim (who is so sure of who he is and did the absolute most for eric) to be with adam, and then they have eric cheat on adam and break up with him because he's not out/not gay enough for him??? like what do you want 🤡
no bc writing that i kinda realised how dumb i was to praise laurie the other week 😭 like it's so obvious she wants people to perceive eric a certain way but her actions prove otherwise, and this goes for multiple characters. as great as sex ed is you can kind of tell this is the showrunner's first show lol
also i honestly think they could've had him just break up with adam prior to nigeria, or maybe even break up when he thought adam was blanking him. or if they just.. didn't have effoff in s3 that would've been perfect
