Laurance sings. Not masterfully by any means, he’d never be well-renowned for the beautifully trained technique of his voice, but he grew up in a bustling trading port town with a constant influx of seafarers, fishermen, even pirates—mariners from all over the planet, from every possible town and culture, and with them they brought their songs. Sea shanties of every breed and variety. And as the Head Guard of Meteli, he would be there to manage all the trades and imports, so he’d be right there on the docks, hearing every song that comes in and out of town and gleefully listening and learning to sing along. He’s a mariner boy, he grew up right by a channel into the sea, he has dozens of sea shanties memorized in-and-out and will sing them regularly, just to entertain himself and others around him. Aphmau, Garroth, and the others grow used to hearing Laurance bust out sea shanties all the time on their travels, like singing 99 Bottles of Beer On The Wall while you’re on a road trip, but like. The medieval equivalent of that

Vylad is in the same boat. After he faked his death, he ran off into the wild world of Ru’aun And Beyond to have a life full of constant adventure, and most of those ended up being overseas. Vylad became a swashbuckler of sorts, a petty thief with egregious debts to the local crime guilds that he never paid, the kind of person who would show up one day for a heist, and completely disappear off the face of the planet the next. Vylad was a pirate. Maybe not a grand or well-known one, maybe only for 7 months out of every year, but he’d stowaway on a number of ships just to get across channels and off to new places. At least a few times, he worked as part of a crew in order to get some coin, and one time, he was Captain—before his ship and the fake identity he took went up in flames only weeks later. Vylad knows a wide list of sea shanties, and he still sings them from time to time. It’s a comforting reminder of his humanity. It keeps him grounded, prevents him from forgetting the past and getting too lost in the chains of being a Shadow Knight.

Zane sings. Very differently from Laurance & Vylad. Zane was a High Priest, which means he held & organized church, regularly. Churches usually have music, and his religion is heavily based off of Catholicism, so it’s very likely that he was the one to arrange the O’khasis church’s liturgical choirs. It’s likely that singing in church was part of the regular routine that everyone present would partake in, including and especially their High Priest. There’s no way he doesn’t know how to sing, very much in that kind of Medieval-Classical-Latin-Catholic Choir vocal technique/style. It has a very different sound from Laurance and Vylad’s more…”free-balling seaman” style, but he was professionally trained on how to sing since he was young, and can sing quite well. (Also, Kestin is a good singer, which is an added bonus)

Zenix could not sing to save his life. His regular speaking voice is already very rough and sandpaper-like, and his singing voice is even worse. He’s tone deaf, if you heard his singing voice, which sounds more like a dying, extremely strained screeching wail, you may never want to hear anything ever again. It’s just a very naturally unpleasant sound. And that’s fine, he’s never really been much of a singer or that musically inclined. He’s more arson-inclined, frankly. However, I can picture him channeling his destructive energy into being a good percussionist, by way of “needing to hit stuff” + getting down a good sense of rhythm = producing a pretty decent beat. Maybe he also beatboxes? Zenix has enough “hyperactive boy” energy to be a beatboxer, that’d suit him well enough.

Gene has a luscious singing voice. Gene could sing lullabies that’d put a rhino to sleep. Gene’s voice is the kind of sexy, buttery-smooth voice you feel reverberating in your core. Gene sounds like he’d sing Frank Sinatra, or old classic Christmas songs for a record that’d make millions. He does it so infrequently though, especially ever since he became a Shadow Knight, and mostly uses it now to lull other people into a trance, or when he’s bored. You can’t exactly pursue a musical career when you’re serving as the General of Hell for the rest of eternity. Zenix and Sasha have both heard him sing, at least a few times. In the past, it relaxed Zenix like no other.

Sasha used to sing. She used to have a very pretty voice that Laurance and Cadenza would stop and listen to at any given opportunity. Cadenza would encourage her to push past her shyness enough to sing for her while she worked on sowing her next design (sapphic sasha x cadenza melodies,,,). But after her death by falling into lava, she sustained a certain level of damage both to her body and to her psyche that made her shut down her love for singing entirely. She has not sung once since she died.

Kiki sings to her animals and to Leona all the time.

If Garroth did sing, he would probably have a very similar vocal technique/style to Zane’s, simply by being raised under the same religious roof as him. I don’t think “learn how to sing in a choir” would be part of the Princely/military training Garte would put him through, though.

Zoe and Levin like to sing together for fun sometimes.

In my main rewrite au, the Shadow Knight Rebellion includes Laurance, Vylad, Zenix, and Zane begrudgingly working together as a team. They like to sing together. Laurance and Vylad connected easily and quickly over their shared love for sea shanties, and eventually the three of them managed to bully, bug, and peer pressure Zane into singing with them, and were surprised by just how well he could sing. Laurance and Vylad asked Zenix to join in. Zenix got through the first three notes before Laurance told him to please stop.

The four of them end up making an unexpectedly merry band together. Laurance and Vylad sing, Zane sings sometimes, and Zenix would provide the accompaniment, like a rag-tag improvised a capella group that formed from the cracks in the pavement. They make an anthem for the Rebellion and teach it to all the hundreds of soldiers that join over time. When the SKR eventually reunite with The Phoenix Alliance, the people of the Phoenix Alliance are very perplexed by the band and their musical connection.

Dax Cannon is in New Orleans to pick up 8 at-risk dogs to take back to a sanctuary in Michigan when a woman catches his eye. She disappears before he can catch her and considers it a missed opportunity – until he finds her stowed away in the back of the van with all of the dogs! From that point on the story deals with their growing interest in one another, his hopes and plans to purchase an outdoor adventure company, her desire to attend an art school that will give her credentials (she hopes) to enhance her art, bad guys with ill intentions and a few other things. The story was fun to read and I liked both Dax and Lissa as a couple. It was fun seeing the couples from the last two books and William, the Bluetick Coonhound added a fillip to the story that was fun, too. Dax and Lissa didn’t have an easy time of it but that just made their HEA all the sweeter.

Yutte was born in Denmark (as Jytte Steensgaard) in 1948, she moved to the United Kingdom to improve her English in 1963. She worked as an au pair, studied stenography and became a model for a time. She was discovered by British producer Betty Box and given small roles as attractive yet decoration in The Girl with a Pistol (1968).

She then played parts in diverse UK TV-series: The Saint (1968; episode: “The Desperate Diplomat”); Broaden Your Mind (1969) Doctor in the House (1969/70) – in which she played the recurring role of Helga, Dave Briddock’s girlfriend.

She moved on to appear in If It’s Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium (1969)and once more for Betty Box in the little-seen Bulldog Drummond adventure Some Girls Do (1969). playing “Number One,” leader of an army of miniskirted robots intent on taking over the world (others included Virginia North and Vanessa Howard). Richard Johnson was the debonair hero, and James Villiers the malevolent super-villain.

Yutte then essayed a similar role in the even more obscure Zeta One / The Love Factor (1969), which was an ultra-low-budget slice of sexy SF about a group of outer space cuties called Angvians who battle British agents for control of the Earth. A mark of the film’s quality (or lack of it) can be found in the fact that “Carry On regular Charles Hawtrey gives the only memorable performance!

She had no inhibitions about taking her clothes off on screen, and so, not surprisingly. soon drifted into low budget sex features like The Buttercup Chain (1970) and A Promise of Bed (1970). This film starred Victor Spinetti as a suicidal bloke whose life was inadvertently saved by a voluptuous party-loving blonde (Vanessa Howard). Running parallel to the main narrative was a humorous sub-plot about a randy taxi driver (John Bird) who dreams of a fantasy world populated by naked sunbathers and stripteasers – one of whom was Yutte!

The same year she appeared with her clothes on in Betty Box’s Doctor in Trouble (1970), a forgettable addition to the long-running movie series based on Richard Gordon’s books. The rakish Leslie Phillips starred as madcap woman chaser Dr Burke, whose pursuit of mini-skirted Angela Scoular gets him stuck on board on ocean liner and labeled a stowaway. Needless to say James Robertson Justice’s formidable Sir Lancelot Spralt was also along for the farcical voyage. Stensgaard played a character named Eve, who received the full benefit of our hero’s smarmy bedside manner…

After this Yufte began to gather a few credits in the horror/fantasy area, first of all moving to Hammer’s chief rival, Amicus Films, to feature alongside genre giants Christopher Lee. Vincent Price and Peter Cushing in Scream and Scream Again (1970). a confused but entertaining tale of a mad scientist (Price) who is building a super race by attaching other people’s limbs to his laboratory creations. Based on Peter Saxon’s THE DISORIENTATED MAN, the film’s best sequence has one of these super-powerful creations ripping his own arm off to escape police handcuffs. then diving into a vat of bubbling acid!

More television work came with On the Buses (1970; episode: “The New Uniforms”, as Ingrid, a Swedish tourist); Special Branch (1970; episode: “Miss International” as Nina Sareth); sci-fi comedy series The Adventures of Don Quick (1970; as Flosshilda); Jason King (1971; as Arlene in the episode “As Easy as A.B.C.”)

Stensgaard’s most famous role is that of the vampire Carmilla/Mircalla in Hammer’s Lust for a Vampire (1971). The film was the sequel to The Vampire Lovers (1970), which had starred Ingrid Pitt as Mircalla. The original film was an adaptation of Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. However, Lust for a Vampire shared little with the novel; it only used the vampire characters, and was thus a completely new story. In the film, the bisexual Carmilla infiltrates an all-girl boarding school while falling in love with a novelist.

LUST was to have been Yutte’s big break, but unfortunately the film as a whole didn’t enjoy the same box office success as its predecessor. Clumsily directed by veteran Hammer scriptwriter Jimmy Sangster who zoomed in on bulging cleavage or gory neck bites whenever the plot lagged, it was a very silly affair that reached its nadir with the inclusion of a dreadful song (foisted on it at the last minute by the producers). The tuneless ditty was called ‘Strange Love,’ and was very strange indeed – Sangster admits he prayed for the ground to swallow him up when this came on at a preview screening! At least Sangster was to survive the debacle and go on to find greater fame as a writer/director of Hollywood TV movies. Yutte, on the other hand was to find few other parts she could so effectively get her teeth into.

Stensgaard auditioned for the part of the Doctor Who companion (Jo Grant), alongside third Doctor Jon Pertwee in 1970. Towards the end of her career she appeared in pantomime and the stage-farce Boeing-Boeing (1971). She also appeared on TV as a hostess on the popular game show The Golden Shot hosted by Bob Monkhouse.

Thereafter she married Tony Curtis (not the film star – the art director on Amicus Films!) and took a few decorative roles in television shows like Jason King (1971; as Arlene in the episode “As Easy as A.B.C.”); The Persuaders! (1971; playing Bibi, a Judo instructress who assists Danny Wilde (Tony Curtis) in the episode “The Morning After”); The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine (1972), and anthology series Dead of Night (1972; as Gertrude Wickett in the episode “Bedtime”) before disappearing from the acting scene altogether in the mid-70s. It seems that Yutte’s marriage broke up around about the same time and she moved to Beverly Hills where she remarried and had one child.

She left acting in 1972, and became a Christian and for years worked at a radio station selling air-time and refusing to discuss her acting career.

Ahoy There, Mommy! Family Sails Around World on YouTube

NEWPORT, R.I. — They met in Ios, Greece: locking eyes across the town square, both in their 20s then. (She had noticed his distinctive mustache.) Elayna Carausu was playing guitar and singing for a travel company; Riley Whitelum was living on the sailboat he had bought with money saved from working for years on oil rigs.

When he told her had a boat, she thought it was a pickup line.

Luckily he had learned a few things in the months before that encounter. Despite having grown up, like Ms. Carausu, mostly in coastal Australia, Mr. Whitelum had no sailing experience before he bought a barely used 43-foot Beneteau from three bickering Italians.

Ms. Carausu was, thank heavens, not on board the night it nearly sank. It was moored off Dubrovnik, Croatia, slowly taking on water from a hidden leak, when it was swamped by the wake from a fishing boat.

Mr. Whitelum had kept the bilge pumps off to save electricity, a rookie mistake, and he awoke to a cabin awash in water. After pumping it out, he turned to Google: “My boat is sinking, what do I do?”

Google responded, koan-like. “‘All boats are sinking,’” he recalled reading. “‘The main factor is how fast. Don’t panic. Find the source of the leak.’”

Six years later, Mr. Whitelum, now 32, not only no longer has to ask Google for help, he and Ms. Carausu, 26, have also become YouTube stars for their adventures at sea.

More than a million people subscribe to their channel, Sailing La Vagabonde (the name of their boat), which has chronicled their life aboard in endearing, instructive and sometimes terrifying videos: two Atlantic and one Pacific crossings; maggoty trash; broken equipment; storms and becalmings; scaldings and other injuries; the boredom of weeks offshore when you’ve read all your books; would-be pirates; and this year, a stowaway, their 10-month-old son, Lenny.

There are many, many sailing YouTubers, including Brian Trautman, a former Microsoft analyst, and his brother, Brady. Their channel, named for their boat, SV Delos, has almost 356,000 subscribers, and patrons can apply to be crew online.

And there are many attractive people exploring beautiful locations clad only in their bathing suits, as Ms. Carausu and Mr. Whitelum often are.

But in this sprawling universe that also covers the shred guitarists, the dadaist live streamers, the haul girls, the van dwellers and the extreme eaters, the couple stands out because they are good television; escapism without the queasy aftermath. Joshua Slocums for the digital age, they offer a view of life in authentically challenging circumstances, in contrast to the manufactured dramas the medium typically invites.

Since they began posting in late 2014, Ms. Carausu and Mr. Whitelum’s videos have become more polished, thanks to a drone, multiple cameras and editing help. “Our Morning Routine Onboard,” posted at the end of May, has nearly three million views.

Maybe what compels is simply their competence and equanimity. There is no whinging on board La Vagabonde.

Or maybe it’s the accent, shown off when Mr. Whitelum, for example, reads David Foster Wallace, his favorite author. It is doubtful that any member of the badly behaving crews on “Below Deck,” the Bravo reality show about life on megayachts now in its seventh season, is passing around copies of “The Pale King.”

Trading Up

On a recent Saturday, the couple were at home on their catamaran, which was docked at Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina. Lenny was gnawing an apple and playing with a USB cord. He has barely any baby gear, and fewer toys: a Jolly Jumper; a baby seat; a stick, a triangle and a pair of tiny cymbals.

“To explain the obvious,” Mr. Whitelum said, “boat living is enforced minimalism.”

The boat’s engine was broken and they had been in town waiting for parts for over a week, guests of Sean Kellershon, the dock master at Gurney’s.

Mr. Kellershon has been following their adventures for years; when he saw that they were heading north after months in the Bahamas, he offered them a spot at the marina. “They just seemed like really cool people,” he said.

Mr. Whitelum was wearing what looked like a Star Wars T-shirt, except that Mark Hamill’s face had been replaced with his own; Carrie Fisher’s with Ms. Carausu’s; and under Darth Vader’s helmet was Lenny. Designed by a fan, it’s La Vagabonde merchandise, $29, made by an ecologically conscious company in Los Angeles.

The couple sells shirts, hoodies, totes, sailing guides and cookbooks they have written from their website, mailed in compostable envelopes. But they make most of their living from patrons: about 3,500 subscribers who pay $3 to $10 for early access to the videos and other perks, like the chance to meet the couple for dinner and a sail, perhaps, if La Vagabonde comes to their town.

Ms. Carausu and Mr. Whitelum’s living costs are moderate. Ms. Carausu estimated they might spend $400 every two weeks on groceries in places they can catch their own fish, and $400 every two months or so on diesel fuel. They run their engine as little as possible, and charge their batteries with solar and wind power.

Still, boat maintenance is expensive. Conventional wisdom says that once a boat is more than two years old, it costs 15 percent of its purchase price every year. Their elegant and airy new boat, a 48-foot Outremer, is about two and a half years old, and lists for about $780,000.

After having seen one in Los Roques, an archipelago off Venezuela, Mr. Whitelum wooed the company, which built a boat designed specially for the couple, and arranged a lease they could pay monthly at a slightly discounted rate.

On forums like Reddit, fans have debated the couple’s good fortune. Had they sold out? Were they still relatable? Could you learn from their videos if they were sailing such a high-end craft? Was their video making work anyway?

But as one poster noted, “ … people think that just anyone can get a GO PRO and do a YouTube Channel, get on Patreon and make hay. It just does not work this way. It actually takes quite a bit of onscreen talent and editing skills to get viewers … I’ll admit it. I just like these people.”

Mr. Whitelum and Ms. Carausu did not set out to be YouTube personalities. Mr. Whitelum skipped university and started a business digging trenches for Australia’s phone company before going to work on oil rigs for eight years. Between three-week shifts, he backpacked around the world, intent on saving his money.

At the start of a trip through South America, he broke his neck in the surf at Copacabana beach in Rio. The surgery temporarily paralyzed his vocal cords, and he couldn’t speak or work for six months. Though he had sailed only once, a miserable three days beating into the wind off Southern Australia, he said, it was his dream to buy a boat and learn how to handle it.

“‘O.K., so you’re going to be alone forever then,’” a friend predicted darkly.

‘What About the Sharks?’

Ms. Carausu had been a tomboy with two older brothers who learned to ride a motorcycle before she ever got on a bike; she learned to drive a motorboat before graduating from high school, where her curriculum included marine studies and aquaculture.

Afterward, she worked as a dive master in Queensland, Australia, living in a Kia van she painted and fixed up until the fateful trip to Ios. A travel company had hired her after seeing her in videos she had posted on Facebook, and she quit two weeks early to go sailing with Mr. Whitelum.

They had known each other barely more than a month when he said, “It would be great if you’d sail the world with me.” Ms. Carausu decided to sell all her belongs and go for it.

“I had always hung around guys who didn’t have any goals and here was this sailor guy who just got stuff done,” she said. “I knew he was going to go far, and I wanted to be a part of that.”

“‘What about the waves? What about the sharks?’” Ms. Carausu remembered her mother saying. “Deep-ocean sailing for her was a combination of ‘Jaws’ and ‘The Perfect Storm,’” which was one reason Ms. Carausu began posting reassuring footage of their trip, using a Canon Power Shot.

The first videos are very much like home movies, charting progress south from the Mediterranean to Cape Verde, and then across the Atlantic. “I saw something good in what we were doing,” Ms. Carausu said, “and I thought people would be interested. I wanted to put them up on YouTube, but Riley wouldn’t let me.”

But by Malta, a month in, he had relented. Within a few weeks of its posting, their first video had over 70,000 views. “She was flipping out, and I was like, ‘Cool, but what does it mean?’ For five months it was still a hobby,” Mr. Whitelum said.

The filming process typically takes three days; after Lenny’s birth, Ms. Carausu hired an editor to make the initial cuts, though she puts the finishing touches on before posting. They hope to keep sailing, boat-school Lenny and continue to make videos, Kardashians-like, but wholesome and afloat.

Ms. Carausu has designed a line of swimwear she calls Vaga Bella Swim, made from recycled, ocean-harvested plastic trash, and plans to donate the proceeds to a charity.

“I’ve always been dreaming of the perfect bikini,” she said. “Something that looks a little bit sexy, but that you can spearfish and dive in without having a body part fall out.” The couple is also hoping to turn the boat into a vessel with zero or low emissions.

Once their engine was fixed, they rode a nor’easter to the Annapolis Boat Show in Maryland, surfing 30 knots of wind for three nights and four days, to meet up with hundreds of patrons there.

Currently they are sailing to Charleston, S.C., where they will leave the boat with friends for two months so they can return home for the Christmas holidays. Then they’ll take the boat through the Panama Canal, and across the Pacific to Australia, a first for them, and circumnavigate their home country, with all the challenges that will bring.

“One year on a boat is like 10 on land,” Mr. Whitelum said. “Now it’s as if we’ve been married for 50 years. If you’re not sure about a partner, take them sailing.”

April Fool’s Post

I kind of forgot to post the April Fool’s chapter on Tumblr once I deleted it from A03. If anyone is unfamiliar, I basically just wrote the Reader into YuGiOh: the Abridged Series.These are just some vignettes/scenes.

Your eyes slowly fluttered open and you mumbled thanks to Téa for waking you up before class. You sat up and quickly used your sleeve to rub your mouth before anyone else saw the drool.

What a weird dream…

Looking around the classroom, you made sure that everything was as it should be. Yugi and Joey were playing Duel Monsters (and since it did not have any cool holograms, the game did not really matter to you), Tristan and Téa have gathered around, watching.

That weird white-haired kid was somewhere in the corner, or whatever. He was like some mentor in your dream.

Kaiba was reading a book.

Kaiba…

You furrowed your brows and studied him for a moment. Kaiba was obviously one of them forever alone types and you could not imagine him ever being remotely romantic.

But he did have lots of money. And that meant something to you.

Formulating a plan, you nodded to yourself. You were going to marry the sonnavabitch and have his fortune. Yes.

But other than your lifelong ambition, there was nothing really out of place. You were still a Japanese teenager with a Western name and inappropriate accent to contract with Joey’s equally inappropriate Brooklyn accent. Téa still sounded like a guy who was desperately trying to sound like a girl. And Tristan…

Tristan was still Tristan.

Perfectly normal.

You were pulled from your thoughts at Yugi addressing you.

“Are you even listening?” he asked. “Are you going to come and see the super special awesome chocolatey fudge-coated sugar-sprinkled mega ultra rare super card with us after school?”

The economy revolved around card games, so it sounded like a good adventure. But there was one problem.

“Don’t we have cram school?” you asked.

“Cram...school?” Joey asked, blinking in confusion.

“Cram school,” you repeated and looked at your friend’s confused expressions. “Are none of you guys looking to go to college?”

“Isn’t that adorable?” Yugi asked Tristan and Joey. “A woman, trying to learn.”

“Speaking of which,” Joey continued, “how is it that we’re friends again?”

It seemed as if everyone turned their heads to Joey at that exact moment in bewilderment

You never felt more offended in your entire life.

“You don’t remember?” you questioned. “We’ve been friends for years! I’m like the contrast to Téa especially because I’m voiced by a female. While Téa will constantly be called useless and universally hated by the fans for being a good friend, she will be labeled as a dirty whore for doing absolutely nothing wrong. Meanwhile, I’ll be the beloved female character who tries constantly to get into Kaiba’s pants and steal his fortune, but no one will think anything of it. Not only that, but I complete the Five-Man Band trope.”

As you continued, you pointed to each member of your group, announcing their roles. “Yugi’s obviously the leader. You, Joey, are the Lancer. Tristan is the Big Guy. I’m the Smart One, and Téa is the Chick. Duh”

“I do say, that is an interesting assessment, but what about me?” the white-haired guy with a British accent asked.

“Um...Who are you?” Yugi frowned.

“I’m Bakura. We’ve also been friends for years,” he insisted.

“Never heard of you,” Yugi waved a dismissive hand and turned back to his friends with a dramatic eye roll.

“Bye, future husband!” you called to Kaiba’s retreating back. He paused for a moment, looked back at you with a horrified expression before he began to walk faster towards the exit.

“That Kaiba kid needs to get laid,” Grandpa declared.

“Big time,” Tristan agreed.

Well geez, it was not as if you were not trying! This was your first day. Kaiba would come around…

Instead of being overly concerned that your two friends had just jumped overboard, you were more concerned with what you were missing on the Paint Drying Channel.

You were just going to remain huddled in the corner as a stowaway. After all, your hair was not even remotely crazy enough to be on this ship.

“I wonder if Tristan was really right about the sun coming up in a few hours…” you mused.

You were so pissed off at Joey right now. You thought you had been friends, but when he shoved you aside and challenged your future husband to a children’s card game instead of you in order to protect your honor…

Well!

“Kick his ass, babe!” you called out.

Joey gave you a thumbs up. You folded your arms like the petulant teenage girl you were. “Not you, him! Go Kaiba-babe~! <3”

Kaiba just ignored you.

That was fine, he could pretend you did not exist. You were in it for the long con.

Besides, you were going to raid the shit out of that helicopter once he left. That way, you could learn about him and trick him into liking you!

Or maybe you could ask Joey for driving lessons. If he could teach you how to drive, he could certainly teach you how to pilot a helicopter. After all, he totally owed you for stealing the spot as Kaiba’s most hated person.

Douche.

“Kaiba, wait!” you called out, running towards him dramatically. Looking at you, he seemed ready to just jump so he would not have to deal with your shit.

You decided not to risk it.

“Before Yugi kicks your ass again, could you do one thing?” you asked.

Kaiba closed his eyes before exhaling deeply. “What do you want?”

“Sign this,” you were not sure where you got it, but you were glad you had this. Just in case.

He snatched the paper from you and could not help but widen his eyes in surprise before he glared down at you. “A marriage form”

“Yes,” you confirmed. “If you’re going to kill yourself. Why not leave your fortune to someone who matters?”

Kaiba tossed the form over his shoulder and into the ocean.

"You shoulda just pushed him in the ocean," Joey said once you dejectedly rejoined your friends. "'Den your character might have been useful for once."

"Kaiba must die!" the Pharaoh proclaimed and the duel continued.

“What are you doing here, Mai?” Yugi asked once they found a familiar face in the virtual world one Seto Kaiba was being held in.

“I’ve been beta-testing this game for KaibaCorp?”

You only saw red and lunged at the harpie. Luckily for you, 4kids censored how badly

you got your ass handed to you.

Mokuba nearly darted for Kaiba the second he found him. Before the kid could get away (and get himself in trouble,) you grabbed a hold of his shoulder.

You were not going to have anyone unchain Kaiba. Not when he was so...vulnerable.

“Hold on a second,” you said to Mokuba. “This is obviously a trap. Let me handle this.”

As you approached, Kaiba turned his head away from you and refused to look at you. That was fine. You could play this game.

“Hey there,” you greeted in your best sultry voice. You put your hand under Kaiba’s chin, but he stubbornly fought against your attempt to force him to look at your sexy leather outfit. You even had a whip.

Undisturbed, you ran your finger down his jawline. “You realize that there is only one way you’re getting out of this, right?”

“Are we really just going to watch while she molests Kaiba?” Mai asked.

“Someone’s gotta do it. Might as well be the crazy bitch in leather,” Yugi answered.

“Um...You guys,” Mokuba tried but only was told to shut up in unison by everyone in the room. Including the Witty Phantom.

“We should probably do something about him, huh?” Joey asked while cracking his knuckles.

“If anyone asks, I never screamed and agreed to marry anyone,” Kaiba warned as soon as the virtual pods opened.

“I freakin’ hate filler arcs,” you muttered. “Nothing is ever canon.”

“Shouldn’t we be concerned about altitude sickness? Or like, hypoxia?” you asked the moment you stepped out of the elevator to the dueling field.

“Never question mein Führer!” one of the offensive stereotype bodyguards quipped.

“I’m too rich to be concerned about the lives of commoners,” Kaiba replied. He raised his voice so the others could hear him. “This is the ultimate test for duelists. At 20,000 feet, we are subjected to frigid temperatures of the upper stratosphere where the slightest bit of turbulence can send any of us spiraling to our untimely deaths.”

“I mean, shouldn’t we have oxygen tanks or something?” you continued, wondering what kind of doctor or legal team thought this would be a good idea. “At this altitude, we are getting only like, thirty percent of the oxygen we would on the ground and furthermore--”

“If you’re so concerned, then why don’t you save some of your oxygen and shut the f-ck up?” Kaiba snapped.

“...Hypoxia,” you muttered but the sound was lost in the wind gusts at such a high altitude.

“Oh please, what’s the worst that can happen?” Joey asked, slinging his arm around you and leading you away before Tristan could call you a witch for using such complicated language.

"Shouldn't we be wearing our space suits?" Tristan asked, not noticing any witchcraft, after all.

“Kaiba, he is about to interrupt the duel,” Mokuba warned.

“That’s fine, as long as no one looks at my boner right now,” Kaiba replied while looking up at the Egyptian God card.

“How is it that he is able to have a boner while wearing pants that tight?” you asked out loud.

“Ah-ha! I always knew Kaiba had an extremely small penis!” the Pharaoh laughed much to Kaiba’s chagrin.

When the blimp hit the water, you all lost your balance and went hurling in random directions. Unfortunately for you, it meant a six-foot tall teenager in a heavy coat and buckles toppled right on top of you.

“Is that all you got Poseidon?” Joey challenged.

“Stop pissing Poseidon off, Joey!” Since Kaiba was pretty much laying on top of you, it made it so you had no idea who that came from, but were pretty sure it was Téa.

“I know you don’t want to die a virgin, but at least buy me a drink first, you groaned since more than one of Seto’s buckles was digging right into your side.

It took Kaiba a few tries to stand up, but not without touching your boobs. By the time he faced the green-haired plot device on the screen, his face was uncharacteristically red.

Kaiba REALLY needed to get laid...

Mokuba pushing Seto into a hole made it so he was knocked back into you, causing all three of you to fall into the same hole.

Fuck your life, you wanted to ride the hole with Yugi. His bullshit main character powers would have protected you.

You now had no choice but to follow Kaiba and Mokuba around while they went through their past. It took less than half a second before Kaiba used Mokuba’s vest to blindfold you.

“At least buy me a drink first,” you muttered while Mokuba dragged you along their childhood memories.

You really wish you were with your actual friends. They were probably having more fun than you were.

Little did you know…

“Can I take off my blindfold now?” you questioned when you heard the fight between Tristan and Kaiba.

“I always knew Kaiba was into some kinky shit. Duke Devlin approves.” With the theme music, you knew exactly who said that.

“Hi Duke,” you greeted in the direction the music was coming from.

“Hey babe. Lookin’ good. But I think you would look better with all of that clothing on the floor.”

After Kaiba started getting his ass kicked by a guy with a stick and Joey had to use Tackle, you decided you were just going to take the blindfold off.

You did so just in time to see Mokuba getting kidnapped. Kaiba then grabbed your wrist to drag you off to grab another motorcycle.

“Eat it, nerds!” Kaiba called out while racing past your friends.

“Okay, when did this show get awesome ?” Yugi asked.

“Couldn’t you have left me with my friends?” you called over the roar of the motorcycle’s engine. You would hang on for dear life, but were kind of afraid to wrap your arms around Kaiba. You might contract Virginitis.

“You have Mokuba’s vest,” Seto retorted. “That and you know too much about my childhood. I can’t possibly risk you telling that to Joey. Or Yugi. Especially Yugi.”

You thought a moment. “Maybe just pay me not to tell anyone? Like a normal person?”

“What about trying to marry me?” Kaiba asked. “Isn’t that the only part of your character?”

“Oh, yeah. That. I kind of forgot about that,” you admitted. “It’s been awhile since Season One, so that idea got axed since it’s more entertaining for us to have a hateboner for each other.”

“It’s not that big of a hateboner,” Kaiba grumbled.

“Kaiba,” you called. “My crotch is pretty much right against your ass at this point because I don’t want to fall off this bike and die. I have seen your erection through your leather pants. I think I know a thing or two about hateboners at this point.”

Silence.

“So you have no interest in me whatsoever?” Kaiba was not ready to let this subject drop. “That was all you used to talk about.”

“If I am going to be perfectly honest, you have been kind of a little bitch. That’s kind of a turn-off for me. Also, most of our problems are your fault.”

Duelist Kingdom was because Kaiba cared about a card more than his company and that created the mess with the Big 5. If Kaiba never hosted a tournament, then Marik would not be that much of a problem. If Kaiba did not kill his stepfather, then you would not be trapped in this virtual world.

Again.

“That, and your outfit has kind of sucked since Duelist Kingdom. I just can’t take you seriously anymore...But we can still be friends, right?”

Kaiba was silent and you were pretty sure he wanted to turn you into road kill. Instead, he fiddled with the radio until his theme music came on.

Yeah, he was lame. Maybe you would be attracted to him during the Grand Prix arc. Men in suits were hot.

You barely had time to think before Kaiba leaped over a gap and crashed the bike. You both skidded and once again, fell into a compromising position.

This time, he quickly leaped to his feet and brushed himself off.

“So you mean you’ll tag team duel with Yugi, but you won’t tag team with me?” you demanded.

Kaiba just stared at you until you realized what you said.

“Oh right. I’m doing phrasing now.”

“Phrasing,” Kaiba retorted.

At least Leichter was patient enough to wait while you two talked. Truly, he was a southern gentleman

During that exchange, you were in the middle of choosing your deck master. N’tss was an obvious option but was too much of a spoiler. So you were going to have to go with Fencing Fire Ferret. Because you were a girl and it was cute.

“God, I hate cute,” Kaiba shook his head when you first selected him.

“Lord of D ?” you questioned. “Like you’re not compensating for anything?”

“Boy, I say boy. I do declare that you just got told,” Leichter retorted.

“Thank you, Leichter. I’m glad someone around here had manners,” you beamed.

Good thing your deck was full of Internet memes and references. Leichter did not stand a ghost of a chance.

You were both losing.

“Oh hey, Kaiba. Are you losing so bad that you needed a girl to help you out?” Yugi asked.

Kaiba fumed.

“Did you already lose so bad and you are too shy to admit it?” Yugi continued. “It’s okay, because I already beat you enough times that you losing is just natural.”

“I never lose!” Kaiba declared before you had to suffer through another flashback. During this, you saw what he was doing and nodded in approval.

Revenge of the nerds: the memes strike back.

“Hashtag: Winning.” Kaiba declared once Leichter destroyed himself.

Téa was beginning to worry everyone, she sounded hornier than you. And that was saying something.

“It’s really disconcerting,” Yugi mused.

“You guys, I’m fine….But I think my mouth tastes like fish!” Téa blanched.

“Those are...very nice,” Kaiba said while looking down at Téa’s breasts. “But I am not interested. I going after Noa on my own terms.”

“But does he have these?” Téa questioned, holding her arms out so her breasts were thrust in front of her.

“God, I hope not,” Kaiba concluded.

Before you could grab the nearest projectile and eviscerate your only female friend, Joey and Duke held you back. Normally, you would be happy to be held down by two good-looking guys, but you were going to murder Téa.

It took the Pharaoh insisting that no one wanted Téa’s body before you calmed down. Which was good since Joey kind of needed his hands-free in order to duel.

You spent the majority of the duel insisting that you were just trying to protect Yugi by

ensuring Téa hit on no one else but Yugi.

Just listening to Kaiba insult and make fun of a dead ten-year-old. It showed how much of an asshole he was.

And yet...watching him get turned into stone hurt more than you could ever imagine.

...Dear God, you were in love.

Wait.

Did Kaiba drop his wallet?

You decided to just ignore the touching reunion between the Kaiba brothers. After all, you were not going to let Kaiba think that you were happy to see that he wasn’t permanantely a statue within a virtual world designed for a dead ten year-old.

Also, you were not going to be anywhere near him when your friends inevitably ratted on you by telling Kaiba you stole his wallet.

You really wanted some nachos and you were pretty sure that your parents were going to ground you the moment you got back home. Which meant no nachos for you.

You decided to just ignore the touching reunion between the Kaiba brothers. After all, you were not going to let Kaiba think that you were happy to see that he wasn’t stone.

Also, you were not going to be anywhere near him when your friends inevitably ratted on you by telling Kaiba you stole his wallet.

You really wanted some nachos and you were pretty sure that your parents were going to ground you the moment you got back home. Which meant no nachos for you.
