the first 76 words from That's Not What Weekly Check-Ins Are For aka sam gets promoted to head of atlantis while jack is head of sgc and they flirt over the weekly checkins (and walter and chuck are Suffering)

Carter was promoted to Head of the Atlantis mission. Which, Jack thought, congratulations were in order for - she was definitely qualified. But that means that they were in separate galaxies during their honeymoon period. He helped her pack and held her close their last night, then watched as she gated to Midway. Once the wormhole fizzled out, he sulked over to his own big glass office and sat down at his desk to not do paperwork.

*tries to think coherently about characters but literally can’t* RADEK ZELENKA! Just!!! RADEK!!!! I mean look at him! I did not expect to watch Atlantis and become obsessed with non-wraith characters but here I am, searching for David Nykl content y’all because of the amazing Dr. Zelenka.

Do you have any fic recs of him getting absolutely destroyed in the best ways possible? I have dived into AO3 and read so many fics with him (and Lorne, and McKay, and also wraith in general). Reading Legacy right now and there’s still not enough Radek even though he’s doing his job and McKay’s.

There 100% is not enough Radek.

Did you know that I started learning Czech because of Radek Zelenka? No? Well I have been going strong since and now my partner is actually applying to a masters program in the Czech Republic (not related to my fandom love) so we are both learning it. 

Mostly it's him cursing Rodney out 😂 wiki has translations! But honestly, learn Czech! It's a fascinating and beautiful language that is not learned enough, just like Radek, not enough and highly underrated. It can be difficult to find ways but it is possible! Duolingo is good for basics, but don't rely on it for pronunciation. 

One day I hope to meet David Nykl and say to him in Czech  "I fell in love with the Czech language and the Czech Republic because of Radek."

So seriously if you commit then I hope to converse with you in Czech one day 💚 (absolutely no pressure)

Pauper update :

Currently testing several variations of lists I own ! I’m doing right now

- UW Familiar. Testing the good ratio between Sea Gates Oracles, The Modern Age, Mulldrifters, Meeting of Minds, Deep Analysis, if I should play a prosperous pirates... At the moment I’m doing 2x Ephemerate, 2x Flicker, 2x TMA, 4x SGA, 3x Mull, 3x MOM, 1x Deep Analysis, and Sage’s Row Denizen but I might change things a bit depending on how it feels !!

- Infect. Here I have SO MANY POSSIBILITIES. First of all yes I am bringing the Phyrexian Midway Bamboozle and *you know it* ! But. Do I play simic or mono green ? Do I bring 2x, 3x, or 4x finishing moves ? On the one hand, simic brings unblockable creatures and the possibility of experimental augury which lets me proliferate and cantrip a potentially good card. On the other hand, mono green is much more focused and doesn’t risk playing tapped lands and having cards I can’t play (in simic I go 2x island, 4x thornwood falls, 12x forest). Much testing to do... I have also bought vitality charms and pulses of murasa on the internet but they’re coming from barcelona and I doubt I’ll be getting them before my local which is on tuesday lol. Well too bad but I’ll make do!

If you want tell me what you think about it! In particular about the right ratio of finishing moves... I feel like 2 sounds like too few to really see them but 4 is too many since it costs THREE and I only run 17-18 lands ? I’ll have to try it out I guess !

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

Okay, so Rodney is the obvious one.

But also, shout out to Woolsey, especially when you take into account him from SG-1 all the way to the end of SGA it is fascinating to see him go from a pretty strict pencil pusher to be someone who still wants to toe the line a lot more, but he's also willing to let some things slide as needed. I think he's good for Atlantis tbh.

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).

Everyone has a guardian faerie to make sure things are going well. Too bad everyone also has a guardian faerie and sometimes things can get ugly. WELCOME TO THE THUNDERDOME (except faeries)

Stargate-Atlantis S4: E17 Midway

I love this episode.

Teyla's maternity outfits are 100% awesome. I love the flow of everything she wears. And, fyi, if you live in the South, being called honey isn't always demeaning. It can be said with friendship and kindness. Kinda like Bless Your Heart... sometimes it's kindred-felt-pity, and sometimes it's an insult.

But, yes, I love this episode. I'm a sucker for bro-bonding through fighting: when a friendship starts out with dislike, out comes in a mutual enemy, fight is on, and now buddies. It's the best. I also love Sheppard bring the one who stops Ronon in the cafeteria and suggests a sparring match. Man's smart and knows how to get two men to stop being at odds.

We have Ronon a bit off, probably because he's more worried about the IOA interview than he's letting on, and he's being told to talk with Teal'c to prep, which is making him more grumpy. Ronon isn't the most trusting of people. He takes him a while to warm up. It did with Elizabeth, Carter, and now Teal'c, even Sheppard at first. He always gets there, just takes him a while. He always puts up a front, test to see if you're willing to do what it takes to scale his walls and earn his trust.

We get another hint about Todd compromising Atlantis security, we get Kavanagh fainting, again, and Sheppard willingly putting his life on the line to save everyone. It breaks my heart when Rodney realizes Sheppard will take himself out with the Wraith. When Sheppard is being suicidal, Rodney always calls him John, and it just makes me tear up.

I love the ending. Teal'c and Ronon are friends, the IOA want Ronon in the fight, and Sheppard has locked himself away from the scientists.

I also love that by this point in time, Rodney is much more versed in combat and gets nervous with Bill having a gun just pointed everywhere.

This is one of the best and funnest episodes, not only of season 4, but the whole show. It's probably the most healing episode after all the trauma up through E12. None of the filler episodes have been as healthy for the whole team, including Sheppard, as this one. They fought the Wraith, won, and got everyone home safely. But Sheppard is still and always will be in a dark place, willing to recklessly put his life in the line in a way he wouldn't let any of the rest of his team. It's not a full deathwish, more like he counts all of his people as worth saving, but doesn't count himself as worth saving.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Ronon's loyalty and friendship with Sheppard? It's kinda the best.

My seat this morning! What a wonderful place to watch Atlantis. Maybe writing later.
