Anybody speaking out about Palestine has been getting shadow-banned. It’s happening on every platform. I don’t see as many posts educating + showing support to Palestine unless it’s a huge celebrity or organization. But it’s not just celebs it’s happening to content creators all over the world and just everybody else who’s supporting Palestine. We are all purposefully being hidden. It’s extremely f’d up how people are literally being silenced for speaking the truth. Ridiculous. But I’m not shutting the hell up anytime soon so respectfully🖕🏿

But as of recently, Israel ordered an air strike on a hospital that killed hundreds of people. We are witnessing in real time the genocide of the people of Gaza and the media is trying to spin the narrative. Mind you, this is all being funded by our taxes. Yep, you heard that right. Our U.S. tax dollar is helping with the literal ethnic cleansing of Gaza. 😞

My experience with a shadow ban

Like a lot of peeps I lost the ability to message, go live, reply to posts. When liking or reposting it never showed in others activity. Tags on posts didn’t show up to the wider community. I could still receive asks and send asks. It was like being in a prison peeps are starting to forget you

I sent a message to support asking for help after 2 weeks I didn’t receive any correspondence so I sent another email. I tagged the staff with “@staff” on a post as well with a few friends reblogging using the tags asking for help.

Just under one month my account has been fully restored thanks tumblr.

Be patient I know it’s hard had lots of negative thoughts but I wanted to beat the shadow ban.

I was flagged by tumblr's anti-spam control.

This is the guide that help me through it

For those who are reading this and you are going through a shadow banned I feel your pain I really do, be patient and you will get through it.

Jesus Christ I’m so fucking sick of YouTube randomly shadow-banning my comments because I say naughty words like “murder” or “asshole.” I literally just saw a comment disappear after I wrote it because I used the word “death.”

I know other people don’t get subjected to this so my account must be flagged or something. It’s driving me crazy, I have to censor every comment I write.

How do y'all be posting smutty fics and get away with not slapping a community label: sexual content on there??

Even with the 'continue reading' breaks and warnings and ratings and authors notes and DNIs, I post a fic with a damn kissing scene and the Tumblr staff is in my notifications within the hour, telling me they "decided my post needed a community label," and have done me the favor of adding one.

Well, that didn’t take long…pretty sure @confess-ledzeppelin has been shadowbanned. I’ll hit up support, but they’re not known for being prompt, from what I’ve heard. Any tips on fixing this and/or avoiding it in the future? I figure it was either due to the explicit content or rapid-fire posting. Maybe adding Mature filters to the NSFW ones would be the way to go?

Are Tumblr purposefully hiding the pro-Palestine tags? A platform that has made an entire section for 'things we care about'; hereunder, social justice, racism and UKRAINE (something which can be directly compared when talking tags). Perhaps it just isn't trending atm, as it was on the trending page for a while, but I can’t see how it wouldn't be trending when we are witnessing a live genocide being committed by the Isrealean State? Then again, I sort of can understand why they don’t want to take an obvious side in this, seeing how the media and the west, in generel, are on the side of Isreal, but to completely try and remove the conversation by shadow banning tags, how is that justice? An entire people are being KILLED. ERASED. How many times do we have to condemn Hamas for people to open their eyes and realise what is happening in Gaza (and the West Bank, for that matter) is disgusting? Inhumane? It didn't surprise me when I saw the same happening on Instagram, Twitter, or Tiktok— but Tumblr?

The West seemingly only cares about justice when the people being killed look like ourselves. We have learned nothing from WW2. Nothing from Afghanistan. Nothing from Iraq. Nothing from Ukraine (to mention a SMALL group of inexcusable, horrifying, historical incidents). It's often asked how genocides and witch hunts of whole nations and people are carried out: this is how.

Sad thing about this whole “shadow ban” business other than not knowing how or why it happened is that I’m essentially invisible and barely interactable outside of my circle.

Tumblr is where I’m usually able to touch aspects of fandoms outside of my circle of friends just a little bit.

I’ve even lost the motivation to spout the occasional random speculation or observation because it wont even be glanced by the target audience.

It also means it’s useless to reblog my art to this blog, which sucks because this is the blog with the most followers.

I wonder if it would be worth it to make a new tumblr or if staff would somehow come down on me for some kind of shadow ban evasion.

Do humans even still work at tumblr anymore? I don’t even know if their customer support line works anymore.

I'm back!

My blog was flagged by Tumblr's automated anti-spam system. For about a month I couldn't send replies to blogs except on desktop. My messages disappeared and it was impossible to find me via search. I only discovered this when I found it suspicious that I couldn't reply to any blog except on desktop.

After learning I was experiencing a shadow ban, I put in a support ticket with Tumblr. It took a little less than 24 hours, but they did restore my account.

Being shadow banned isn't something that's ever mentioned to you. You discover the hard way when no one can see you or you can't communicate with anyone here. So if you find the ability to send or read messages suddenly gone, or that you can't leave replies, you might be shadow banned. It is either a glitch or your account was falsely flagged by an automated system. Put in a support ticket. Tumblr will eventually respond!
