This was just a thought floating around my head all day...
Naruto wants to feel true freedom, being the Jinchūriki of the Kyuubi no Kitsune he constantly feels the chains to Konoha as a weapon and the hatred of the village as their demon(carrier). Since he was a child, Naruto would watch the birds flying above with envy. It started back in the orphanage, staring out the window. When he got kicked out before his fifth birthday, he started watching the sky from the top of the Hokage monument, above Lord Fourth’s head. Now that he’s a genin, he often slips out the borders of the village to go to a waterfall he found.
THE SCENE:
Naruto had slipped away after another grueling week of D-rank chores and training with Team7. He needed to get away, even just for a moment, he needed air.
Making his way to his favorite spot he looked out over the body of water. Watching as the currents rushed south to a great waterfall. But it wasn’t the waterfall that truly held his attention, it was the sky above it. Pumping chakra through his legs, he descended the cliffs of the waterfall and moved far enough back that he wouldn’t be splashed with the crashing water.
Taking a moment, he stood on the surface of the water. Eyes closed, breathing in, he focused his mind and body. Letting his heartbeat come to a steady beat.
Tha-thump, tha-thump…..
Tha-thump, tha-thump…..
A soft breeze swept past him, ruffling his hair and carrying a few leaves across the water.
Tha-thump…..
Tha-thump…..
Climb!
Snapping his eyes open, Naruto barely put his hands together to form the Ram seal before a clone appeared before him. The Naruto clone in front of him was crouching with his hands together, glowing faintly with chakra. The real Naruto sprinted across the water and took a giant leap into the hands of his clone, launching himself high into the sky above the top of the waterfall and the surrounding trees. When his momentum slowed down and he started to fall back to earth, he created another clone not too far beneath him. Once he was close enough his clone grabbed his ankles, tucked and rolled his body until he could send himself back up into the air, higher than before.
He was so high up, the trees seemed to blend together but Naruto could hardly be bothered with what was below him. Head tilted up, he only had eyes for the sky.
He doesn’t even remember calling more clones, just felt the shift in chakra and slight contact of his foot connecting with their backs as he climbed higher. He didn’t even register the poof of smoke as they appeared and disappeared.
In his mind, everything slowed down as he hovered in the air, right hand reaching out as if he could grab hold of the clouds. But like everything else in his life, reality caught up with him and soon gravity was tugging him back down to earth. With his back to the ground, he watched as the sky seemed to get further and further away.
It felt like his fingers were so close, just inches from grasping the clouds that represent the freedom he craves more than anything else in the world. But of course, it's a fool's dream. His eyes stung with the realization, and so he shut them. Squeezing his eyes shut to the harsh truth in such a childish way of defiance. It wont be like this forever, I’ll reach the clouds one day.
With that last thought, a small smile graced his face.
Tha-thump…..
His back hit the water and he sank deep into the water's trenches.
