"You're doing that again."

Tighnari’s voice, full of annoyance, caught your attention. Though it wasn't enough to tear your eyes from the pages of your textbook. You were too busy scanning the equations of your calculus homework.

"What thing?" You replied, twirling the pencil between your fingers nonchalantly. "I'm just sitting here."

Tighnari groaned. "You're biting your lip again."

Oh.

You paused, taking a moment to taste your lips only to realize he was correct. Dammit. You hated when he was right, because he always was.

"Maybe I am a bit nervous," you admitted, still refusing to take your eyes off the pages. "But have you seen this content? It's like they're trying to make me stressed out on purpose."

"University does that," he stated. You didn't need to look up to notice Tighnari was now across from you, gazing upon your hunched figure. (You knew you were hunching again, too. Your sore lower back screamed at you.) "You can take breaks, you know."

"And risk failing because I didn't study for 5 more minutes?" You regretted the sentence the moment it slipped from your mouth. Now you've really dug your own grave.

Dating Tighnari came with two perks: One, he had his sweeter moments, the ones where he would hold your hand, rubbing his thumb across your knuckle when he observed the bags under your eyes appeared once more. Two, while yes, you two were an item--for a long time in fact--his ability to scold only enhanced. You were not free from his reprimands.

"Okay," Tighnari drawled, the chair beneath him screeched as he pushed it back. "It's coffee break time; no you do not get a say in this."

"But-"

"Nope."

"'Nari!"

You let out a small yip as he grabbed the back of your own chair and dragged it outwards. "No wait!" You hollered, "Lemme finish!"

"Absolutely not." He tugged your wrist to pull you against him. "C'mon. The school cafeteria is now selling hot chocolate for the cooler season."

"Oh, so when you lock yourself in your room for hours it's fine but-"

He lightly knocked his fist against your head. "Enough. You've been struggling lately. Let's try to enjoy some days, yeah?"

“Is it just me or has Nysa been acting rather strange lately?”, Maddie inquired, a furrowed brow creased across her otherwise perfect face as she walked in tandem with Percy. The red Gothitelle stared wearily at the other Gothitelle, his eyes slanted as a scowl crept up on the right corner of his mouth. “Strange? Is that what you call it? Understatement of the century. I’ve known Nysa long enough to figure whatever happened to her ain’t normal. You saw what happened! She’s normally annoying with her calm smile and mischievous attitude. But that? Since when does she giggle at the sight of someone dying” Percy murmured, the duo making their way up the wooden walkway that connected with Nysa’s front door. 

As they approached the door, both could hear the sound of something moving behind the wood. The duo stared at each other before Maddie knocked sternly, but softly on the door. “Nysa, are you in there?”, the woman called out gently. The sound stopped, the sound of something breaking accompanying by a short growl. “I’m busy...”, a voice called out. It was definitely Nysa’s, but something about it felt off. “Well, I guess we should be going now!”, Maddie said with an anxious face. Her spine was tingling, as if something felt wrong. Spinning around quickly, she quickly turned the other way, only to let out a meager yelp as Percy grasp her shoulder firmly with a strong hand. “Not so fast! We both know something is off and I ain’t leaving until I know what it is”, The Gothitelle said adamantly. Unlike Maddie, he slammed his fist furiously on the door. 

“Nysa, get your ass out here right now! The last thing I need right now is-”, was all Percy could say as the door suddenly exploded, suddenly taking him, and a good chunk of the front entrance with him. Letting out a loud groan as he skidded across the ground, face scrunched in pain as a large piece of wood was sticking out through his thigh. Blood gushing through the wound at a rapid pace. Panicking a bit, Maddie rushed to Percy’s aid, looking for a way to stop his bleeding. She froze in horror as she felt an ominous presence descend upon them. Slowly turning her head around, her pupils dilated as she saw Nysa, or the husk that passed for the witch now. Bits of hair, skin and even muscle lay exposed, her elegant clothing tattered and stained. Her calm smile replaced with a manic grin as her discolored eyes stared down upon the two menacingly. “What part of I’m busy do you not understand? I guess ol’ Nysa is going to have to teach you some manners, won’t we?~”

Heyyyy Emmy, after taking 84 years to decide on a prompt could I do 7 from the Injury prompt list with Dainsleif?

He noticed at the very beginning. The way you clutched your wrist, flexing it up and down. The subtle flinching whenever something made contact with that hand. Dainsleif knew. He was more concerned about why you had not spoken of it. There were all types of injuries that could have caused the pain you were experiencing, but lack of knowledge proved to be faulty.

"How long have you been injured?" He watched with regard as you flinched. You tilted your head before he spoke again, eyes glancing towards the appendage hidden behind your sleeve. "Your hand."

"It's..." You hesitated, as if constructing the right words in your head. Perhaps an attempt to not spark worry. "It's nothing. Just a small scrape. I got tangled with some tree branches."

Dainsleif observed as you shuffled, tugging on the sleeve once more. If he took a closer look, he would've probably seen blood.

"I know it's not my place to tell you what to do with yourself," he said, "But if you would let me take a look-"

"No, it's fine." You said it so fast, now he couldn't help the suspicion rising in his chest.

He held up his hand gently, as if you were a wild animal. "I won't hurt you, if that's what's causing you hesitation." You've been trying to hide it as best as you could, there was no possible way you weren't injured pretty good, if not badly. He's met people like you before, and they didn't have such a kind fate.

It took a few moments of thought, but you did eventually hold your hand to him. Pulling the sleeve back revealed a deep scrape across your palm. Dainsleif sighed through his nose, this was exactly as he predicted. You weren't fibbing when you said it was a scrape, however you were when you stated the severity.

"Come, there's a river nearby. We must clean the wound." Without tugging against your arm, he directed you south of the campsite. "Better to not have an infection."

Before you knew it, you found yourself beside the river bank, hand cupped against the rushing water. You winced at the water cleaning your wound, the sting memorable. You watched the dried blood flow from it. Red dancing along the mix of leaves and pebbles below.

"Thank you," you mumbled.

"It's no trouble, though I'd definitely prefer if you were vocal about such things." Dainsleif responded. "Better to speak up then suffer. However, it's not so much a message for me, more for the two traveling companions with us."

You thought about the Traveler and Paimon sleeping peacefully in the tent next to yours. About how they would react if they found out you had been hiding something as important as an injury. The idea made your chest ache.

"Dainsleif,"

"Hm?"

"Why are you so keen on helping us?"

Dainsleif's eyes glazed over with an emotion. He fell into thought before giving you a proper response. "You remind me of someone I knew long ago. They were just as kind, as brave, but they also shared the habit of not speaking up when necessary."

He paused, eyes wandering towards the river, trailing a leaf as it fell towards another leaf. The two broke apart soon after the first fell. "Just old memories, I suppose."

"Was this person very close to you?"

For the first time since you met the man, you shared eye contact. Eyes so blue you could've sworn you almost fell into them. He nodded.

"If I said this back then, I would've been immensely embarrassed, but now, I wouldn't hesitate to say they meant everything to me."

You didn't respond, not knowing how to.

He spoke again, disturbing the silence as he splashed water against your wound once more. "I should've said it when I had the chance."
