Reylo's indetroner equivalent to date.
I mean, Dongfang Qingcang = Kylo Ben to death. They both killed their father for essentially the same reason ! And Rey and Orchid are both in the same situation of not knowing who they are and no one knows who they are either. Girls without a home and family, and who would really want have that, who don't know who they are and think that basically they are nothing, and who are alone. There's also the color coding of the guy and the girl, the girl's powers generally linked to healing, not to mention the mystical connection of the two characters which essentially allows them to resurrect each other at the end. Then obviously, they are in enemy clans. He is from the tribe of the moon, and she, from that of the celestial. Then we discover that she is in fact the reincarnation of the former leader of another clan, which the Moon Tribe once decimated, so she is the equivalent of the goddess of nature. So in short, the heroine was nobody, but then discovers her true identity which further reinforces the supposed enemy aspect between the two characters. Like Rey when she discovers (unfortunately) that she is Palpatine's granddaughter. Without forgetting that the heroine's primordial form at the beginning is an orchid, that's her name, and you are well aware that an orchid is a plant that needs sunlight. Something said in the series itself, and where we see Dongfang Qingcang taking care of Orchid by making her be in contact with sunlight as much as possible. Not to mention that fairies are often symbolically associated with light in our culture. And even if Orchid is ultimately not a fairy, she thinks she is for the majority of the series and is designated as such by the title. Yes. No doubt. It's Reylo pure and simple.
We'll see how The Hurricane Wars trilogy evolves in the future...
Talasyn and Alaric's relationship is reminiscent of many other well-known fictional romantic relationships for me. (Just like Reylo, and of course, also like Dongfang Qingcang & Orchid, and they are all generally - so not all - the same)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is Romeo & Juliet by the obvious appearance of the star-crossed lovers, from an enemy clan in the middle of war.
The obvious myth of Hades & Persephone. Because sometimes Persephone is called the Light of the Underworld and she is also sometimes depicted with a torch. So always associated with light. Hades is on the other hand associated with death and darkness. It is also often pointed out that they are a power couple.
Of course ; Beauty and the Beast. But in the sense that the trope is used today in the idea of a man cathegorized as monstrous finally finding redemption / or evolved, through the romantic relationship he forms with a woman. (Let's be real, this is the direction we are heading)
The classics Jane Eyre & Mr Rochester ! The orphan heroine meeting a Byronic hero dressed in black. The emphasis of the relationship being on their spiritual / magical connection. (And probably later in the trilogy the emphasis for Talasyn & Alaric will be on their equality, like Jane & Rochester, I'd be hard-pressed, seeing as after all, it's taken from a Reylo fanfic and is about a trope of light / darkness, equality will inevitably come to the table at some point)
Erik & Christine from The Phantom of the Opera. The young orphaned woman associated to the light who finds herself in a complicated and tragic romantic relationship with a man having a traumatic past, and wearing a mask over his face. But who also offers to train the heroine and ends up doing so.
The other aspect of Reylo would be Darcy & Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice, but hey... as long as we don't get in the sequel the guy telling to the girl that she may be nothing according to her or for the others, but not for him like with Kylo (And Dongfang Qingcang from LBFAD) as equivalent to Darcy's failed declaration... well I can't really say. Hoping we will have it too !
I also hope that the connection between Talasyn & Alaric on a spiritual and magical level will strengthen even more, and also above all that the concept of equality will come to the table as their relationship evolves positively. (Which should normally be the case)

THE HURRICANE WARS took the world by storm, and now NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Thea Guanzon returns with this steamy and action-packed sequel, following reluctant newlyweds Alaric and Talasyn as they navigate their burgeoning feelings among political schemes and magical threats.
After a lifetime of war, Alaric and Talasyn were thrust into an alliance between their homelands that was supposed to bring peace; however, being married to their sworn foe feels far from peaceful. Now Talasyn must play the part of Alaric’s willing empress while her allies secretly plot to overthrow his reign. But the longer the couple are forced together, the harder it becomes for her to deny—he isn’t the monster she thought he was. When the time comes to act, can she trust him, or must she ignore her feelings for the sake of so many others?
As the master of the Shadowforged Legion, Alaric has trained for battle all his life, but marrying a Lightweaver might be his most dangerous challenge yet. With tensions between nations churning, he needs to focus on the greater threat—the Moonless Dark, a cataclysmic magical event that could devour everything. Only he and Talasyn can stop it, with a powerful merging of light and shadow that they alone can create together. But saving their world from this disaster is a mere preface to his father’s more sinister schemes, and his wife is a burning flame in the darkness, tempting both his loyalties and his desires.
The Hurricane Wars aren’t over. It’s time to choose what—and who—to fight for. The world holds its breath amidst a whirlwind of new magic and old secrets, and two hearts circle each other like predators in the eye of the storm.

Gnomish, Dwarvish, and Human leaders come together to discuss this for two purposes. The first is in the interest of Allied security. Troop and goods movement is integral in wartime, and it is pertinent to rebuild strong and fast after the last war
The second is national integration into the Alliance and straight up basic diplomacy. Dark Irons see opportunity in the Gnomish desire to fully and finally reinhabit Gnomeregan and request an extension to Shadowforge City. Fearful of the Horde's potential access to such a weak point, in this time of peace, the Alliance (through a network of spies and connections) find that the Blackrock Orcs, recently sated by the recent Kosh'arg and lead by Eitregg, a fellow Blackrock, would stay away from such a project so long as there are joint-rebuilding efforts. These would see Dark Irons, Blackrocks, and Black Drakes working together (not at all in a lovey-dovey hippy way) to rebuild and, indeed, beautify the mountain
--
Edit: With the terminus of the Aerie Peak line at Kirthaven coming into such close quarters with the Dragonmaw Orcs, Eitregg pacifies the unrest across the clans by reaching out to Gazlowe and the Bilgewater Cartel in order to contract a similar rail line, connecting Goblin, Troll, Tauren, and Orc centres on Kalimdor.
The unrest cannot be fully quelled, and this leads to conflicts Azeroth's champions can participate in. However, the expansion of the Grimrail is done in a sort of dick-measuring arms race: Between Horde and Alliance, between Gnome and Goblin, between Orc and Troll and Dwarf and Human, et cetera
--
With such a success, the Alliance start working on the second phase, bridging the span by connecting Stromgarde through Dun Algaz. The Stormpikes lead the charge, ever suspicious of the Dark Iron fraternization with the Orcs. However, while the Raventusk Trolls are (/wish to be) content in their village, the Vilebranches come to attack the construction happening across the Span. This speeds up the construction process but provides a constant PvP zone in Arathi Highlands (recalling back the olden days)
Reaching Stromgarde, the Wildhammers, Danillian Elves, and the Half Elves conspire with the Gilneans to extend the Tram both west- and north-ward. For the Alliance, this connects the two major continental ports and provides aerial manoeuvrability via the Wildhammers and increasingly sky-bound High Vale Elves
However, Durnholde has never been a stable stronghold, and its station frequently comes under attack by the Alteraci Syndicate (PvP n.2); likewise, Southshore both evolves and devolves into again a stand-off (with great peace potential) with the Forsaken.
This next bit is straight-up headcanon fiction: The extension through Southshore into Gilneas goes through Dun Modr, which gets cleaned up but requires the assistance of Calia Menethil. There, the spirits of Dwarves and Humans are restless (yadda yadda) request to be Lightborne undead. However, the Forsaken feel they have the right to that land (yadda yadda) PvP n.3 in Hillsbrad

favorite: Does your OC have a favorite article of clothing or accessory? What is it? What's the meaning behind it? Do they wear it all the time or do they wear it sparingly to keep it safe?
Phe has a bunch of accessories that she is seen pretty much always wearing. She's always known to have a black choker-like accessory around her neck, although there's really no meaning behind that, other than the fact she likes it. The second oldest accessory that she's worn for the longest, would be her compass. If it's not around her neck by a leather cord, it's most often on her person somewhere. The accessories that have the most meaning to her however, are the stacked triple-helix rings in her left ear. Those are her engagement-turned-wedding bands she shares with Barry - he has a matching set in his opposite ear. On her wrists are usually the next sentimental items. A rainbow-beaded bracelet that Barry bought her years ago at the Shadowforge Craft Festival - it has a special enchantment on it to enhance reflexes and agility, which suits her very well, considering her line of work. And a red twine bracelet, that she bought from Dawnsong Remedies, another item that Barry has it's twin.

Break the Day: Proper NaNo WIP intro
Tumblr media
I finally got around to writing a proper blurb for the first book in this series, and also it’s developed even further since my last one so I thought I’d compile a proper post about it. Still excited about this to dangerous levels.
I’ll update this post as things develop.
Genre: Fantasy, LGBTQ+
Status: Writing book 2
Short Summary:
This series is set in a medieval-ish fantasy world, partly inspired by slavic language/culture, about magic users called the az-ari/the priori, particularly two of them called Fennrin and Ainreth, who can control shadows and light respectively. They fall in love while trying to navigate a world of politics, war, the ramifications of individuals being given too much power, and also their own complicated feelings because they’re idiots.
Proper Blurb:
Fennrin is a shadowforger, a type of az-ari who have mastery over shadows. But all it's ever brought him is misery. People are afraid of the power that he himself barely understands, seeing his shadows as omens of bad luck and death.
Forced to barely scrape by since his parents disowned him, Fennrin's life takes a turn when he is approached by Ainreth, a lightweaver and famous general, asking him to come with him to the royal court to be trained and help him stave off an assassin who's made an attempt on Ain's life, somehow able to counteract his powers.
Even though Fennrin is suspicious of Ainreth's flirting and his arrogant attitude, Fennrin decides to go with him because his life can't get much worse.
Thrust into a world of politics and power, Fennrin quickly learns just why shadowforgers are so infamous and how strong he could become, while, much to his chagrin, starting to fall for Ainreth. However, unwelcome feelings are only the start of his problems as the neighboring, tyrannical monarchy is preparing for war. And if Fennrin wants to survive, he will have to fight it.
Map and Geography:
Tumblr media
There’s two countries in the story (though I’m sure I’ll add more to mention on the side later). Orinovo - the somewhat slavic country on the left, and Lys-Akkaria on the right. Lys-Akkaria used to be part of Orinovo, but freed itself over a century ago. Now that Orinovo has a new monarch, a new war has started to try to regain Lys-Akkaria back.
Orinovo is a monarchist dictatorship where az-ari are hated, while Lys-Akkaria celebrates them, and is ruled by 4 elected leaders: the Bulwark of the Royal Guard, who manages the army, the Patron of Treasury, who deals with taxes and money in general, the Arbiter of Law, who deals with law, unsurprisingly, and the High Herald, the guy who keeps an eye on the other 3 to make sure everything runs smoothly.
And here’s some flags for the two nations. Lys-Akkaria’s the first one because they’re cooler of course:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Magic System:
The az-ari can control various aspects of nature, but they’re all limited to their specific talent. What exactly they can do is still up for changing, but so far the types of az-ari are lightweaver (controls light, especially sunlight), shadowforger (controls shadows), sproutkeeper (can either control plants or mushrooms, there’s two types), flamewielder (controls fire), ironspinners (control iron, so far not officially added, may be deleted at any point :D), and so far unnamed ability to take the powers of others.
To be able to use their powers, the az-ari have to be able to move their fingers, which is why special finger clamps exist to restrain them if necessary.
The powers are inherited from ancestors, but it’s not super likely for someone to receive them, and the longer a family line goes without them the less likely it is for someone to have powers. Shadowforgers and lightweavers are incredibly rare because their powers are tied to only one family line each.
I would list characters here but I compiled a character introduction post here for anyone interested.

DWC August 2022 Day 6: Zealous
Deagra caught on early, it helped that dwarves didn't often frequent areas this far south, stereotypes were accurate at times, and the humid jungles and sea air didn't agree with many of her peoples. Perhaps her choice to settle in the mountain clearing near Booty Bay had something to do with how different it was to Shadowforge, without being uncomfortably cold, of course.
Then again, stepping out onto a balcony to take in a few of vibrant waves beating on a pristine beach while drinking a cold lime cocktail was a fairly nice perk, a little gift from her to her for escaping her society before it became popular, she mused.
But yes, the dark iron trailing knew how to move without being noticed, knew how to dress without drawing attention, knew how to blend in a crowd. But she grew up leaning how to watch for assassins, he moved like them.
She kept calm, from all the unsavory lessons that came from her upbringing, she was grateful for this. She made her rounds to the shops, bargained, talked to her business associates, all the while subtly forming the magics she'd learned, drawing just a bit of energy from those she passed in the busy docks, channeling it all into her focus.
Once she left, 100 feet or so up the road out of town, she sprung her trap, a quick incantation, her would-be assassin jumped back in surprise as a fiery glyph appeared just behind him, a handsome, devilish figure emerging through the ground, Rhyalin must have been feeling particularly male today, Deagra mused, as her Sayaad emerged, working their magic quickly, the dwarf quickly lost the tension in his muscles, caught in a particularly alluring illusion.
"Mmm... he's ripe, will you be letting us have a little fun today, mistress?" They spoke in a rather singsong voice, a bit interesting as it was in their native infernal language.
Hers was more curt, her pacts may have been bound to her permanently in her childhood, the sacrifices long since made on her behalf, sins that were mercifully attributed to her parents, she'd discovered.
Putting on a seductive tone to her voice, she mewled to the captive assassin. "Hey there... what's a lovely lil' thing like you doin out 'ere?"
A cocky response. "To kill a traitor. If I come back with her head, the sons of Ragnaros will give me more power."
She puts a hand on his shoulder, tracing a finger down the muscles of his right arm, "Ohh, they sound important, who are they, how do they know about this traitor?"
"I used to work for the Stonehelms, saw how their child betrayed them, knew how she murdered her own mother after the massacre of the Senate. They were loyal to the Fire Lord, they would have been able to lead us through the death of the emporer, but she... she took it all!" He looked over at her and gave her a wink, "We'll make all those who abandoned our lord to treat with the damned Bronzebeards pay, and our slumbering lord will reward us when we being him upon the world again!"
She could feel his muscles flex, the magics were working, his look more amorous and obsessive.
A zealot. Given the choice of freedom, he chose to remain bound. to kill, to take slaves, to continue the cycle of suffering.
"Rhylian?" She coolly walked up the road toward as she spoke.
"Yes Mistress?" They responded, a hope of satisfaction in their voice.
"Have your fun. Just with this one."
She heard the sound of a whip crack, and she heard his scream.
No guilt for this one. He made his choice.

summoning shadow objects - shadowforging - requires cerberus to make contact with a shadowed surface using their right hand.
this ability requires the presence of darkness - either a sufficiently large shadow or an unlit interior area. depending on how big or dark the shadow is, they can produce more durable objects, and in more plentiful numbers.
when in complete and utter darkness, cerberus can practically form the object they require right in their hand. because of this, cerberus prefers to fight in unlit places. in bright light, such as broad daylight or artificial floodlight, cerberus will be weakened, and they will likely be unable to perform shadowforging. any summoned shadow weapons, etc., exposed to sufficiently bright light will dissipate unless swiftly relocated to heavy shade - or even better, to complete darkness. further applications of this talent, beyond the forging of arms, will be tested in time as grim necessity yields dark invention.
