Using old english in my diary is the best idea I ever had

Reblog to save a life: the “eth” suffix on archaic verbs (giveth, knoweth, bringeth) is equivalent to the “s” on third person singular present simple tense verbs (gives, knows, brings). It isn’t correct in the first person or second person, or in other tenses.
❌ I giveth you this sword.
❌ you giveth me this sword.
✅ I give thee this sword.
✅ thou givest me this sword.
✅ he giveth thee this sword.
(Note that “thee” is always the object of a sentence. “Thou” is the subject form.)
❌ he kneweth you were false.
✅ he knew that thou wast false.
❌ you will bringeth the cookie recipe.
✅ thou wilt bring the cookie recipe.
Sticking “eth” on random verbs doesn’t work. Have a nice day. 😇

thou art the epitome of p'rfection while i'm liketh a wist'ria wallflow'r blossoming on a mural. so i desire thee receiveth this lett'r and yond i madeth mine own feelings of loveth cleareth to thee on this page. 💌

Archaic conjugation:
'You say to yourself that you're done, yet you aren't' becomes 'Thou sayest to thyself that thou'rt done, yet thou art not.'
It worketh [works] all day.
The 'eth' form is not used for plural subjects, so 'they go to the shop' doesn't change. Subjunctive sentences often don't change as well, unless you go back to the English of Geoffrey Chaucer, such as that of the Canterbury Tales.
However, be is sometimes used for plural subjects: 'Be the warriors ready for battle?' Be can also be used instead of if in subjunctive clauses, as in the following, where it acts like 'if': ‘Be this that which the so-called “Starred” bid to further spin some tale, be that they speak through me, then may the wind dry this mouth to a withered, deadened, hollowed shell.’
The last example is from the first chapter of my novel, Fallwind, which can be found here: https://rowanbyrneauthor.wordpress.com/2023/09/18/chapter-1-farm-raised/

Epiphania finis(Obliviscatur)
"Darkness swallowth soul of mineth, All I hath art m're puppets. Desire hath linger'd with false lighteth, Luring deep'r into shadows. And yet again I hath f'rgotten Just wherefore I'm going on f'r gust Alas, the self-inflict'd pain of the devot'd Is s'rt of pain no one wouldst ever wanteth has't T'was hard to und'rstand the reason Wherefore didst' feeleth liketh speaking to deaf ears It neith'r wast a failure, nor a treason Thou simply can't ignite what's cover'd up As I shalt never und'rtake misfits whos't seek'th me In eyes of one I seeketh I'm nothing but misfit A m're vision passeth by it, wend on living We'll nev'r knoweth all the lives we tooketh liketh yond. T'doth feel desire's the greatest evil, As 'twill not alloweth daws to rest in peace At least as longeth as those gents art living Desire shalt lead those folk to dark with ease. Oh, right, thou all shalt wend Wouldst not thee coequal both'r bethinking Art sure thou shalt evade grim fate of mineth F'r thou as well shalt nev'r both'r desiring Oh well, what ev'r, nev'rmind."

well, currently im binge-watching stranger things, and I have made quite some progress. Well ngl, i had nothing to do so I converted this conversation between steve and dustin into shakespearean english.
Dustin: "I beseech thee for aid on a mission most peculiar. Suzie, with a 'Z,' hath summoned a Code Red."
Steve: "Who is this Suzie with a 'Z' thou speakest of?"
Dustin: "Mine own girlfriend."
Steve: "Thou hast a girlfriend?"
Dustin: "Suzie, with a 'Z.' Heard thou not my proclamation?"

nearly halfway thru shakespeare's plays and i've been mainly saving the histories for last but recently watched david tennant's richard ii and really recommend it for fans of him (as well as hamlet, but that's more well known). he decided to play him very queerly and androgynously, and he wears this amazing long hair with flowing fabrics. there are some good monologues from the queen and others about sorrow - i suggest anyone ctrl+f the word "sorrow" and read those bits if nothing else - & there are some surprisingly progressive speeches from the king himself.
for percy shelley fans like myself, i must say that i knew shelley was fond of reciting the words "let us sit upon the ground / and tell sad stories of the death of kings," to his friends, a reference that not everyone would really get but he loved too much to care. but it wasn't until tennant spoke those words -- and i didn't even know that line was from this play, but as soon as i heard them -- that i felt their power, the same power shelley must have felt if he ever saw it live, or the power he must have sensed when he read it. i got so excited when i recognized those words. then i realized why that became one of his favorite monologues ever. its such a fiery shelleyan monologue and tennant did it real justice - for me it was the highlight.
