you realize lucifer likes you when you see how free he is with you. free with his ideas, his time, his things, and himself. the warm, sweet man you’d grown to know is a far cry from the imposing figure that had greeted you in the student council room at rad, and as you think back, you can trace when he’d begun opening up, when the two of you had grown closer.

at first, you hadn’t spent much time together at all, you were so busy with his brother’s shenanigans and getting situated, and he with work and his other duties, but as time went on and you came to know one another better, it wasn’t uncommon for you to share a table at the library to work, which turned into him walking you out, which turned into grabbing coffee, and so on and so forth.

he’s kind to you, and attentive, and while he’s polite to everyone (as long as they’re not on his bad side) there’s truly something deeper between you, something you hope to treasure and foster for as long as possible.

you realize mammon likes you pretty quickly. his insults turn to unintended compliments, the angry stain on his cheeks turns into a flustered blush, and he’s painfully transparent when it comes to wanting to spend time with you.

he hoards you, like a dragon does a jewel–or a spectacularly rare grimm–so unwilling to be outspoken in his adoration but it shining through in his every action. he comes up with ridiculous excuses to spend time with you, ones you both know you don’t believe, and you go along with him, just as eager to be in his company as he is to be in yours.

there are the little things, too. the way he gives you his jacket even if you’re not that cold. the way he grabs your hand when he’s excited. the way he stands on the street side when you go on walks. it’s the little things that he does even while claiming you’re ‘just a human’ to him, another thing you both know you don’t believe.

you realize levi likes you when he invites you into his space, sharing the parts of him he’d kept hidden for so long. no one went into his room before you, but it’s now not uncommon for you to hang in there after dinner, and over time, he’s revealed more of his collection to you. you find his passion endearing and fun, especially when he finds things to do or watch that interest the both of you, opening you up to a whole new world you’ve never explored.

he teaches you how to play his games, even letting you win sometimes, and is so eager when you do the same. he picks up your favorite snacks for movie nights, even though you old told him what they were once, and remembers that you like the left side of the couch better than the right.

he’s not so good at expressing himself through words, getting flustered when he tries, but his actions make it more than clear how he feels for you, how high of a regard he holds you in. you know he worries about being too much, too weird, but the fact that he’s able to overcome those worries to spend genuine time with you is something you’ll never not be grateful for, as it allows you this wonderful connection.

Mammon stares down at his youngest brother snoozing away on your lap. Belphegor has made himself at home with your thigh as a makeshift pillow. It’s far from the first time this has happened, and very unlikely to be the last. Any more, he just walks over and does it, falling asleep within moments without even asking. He’ll wake up if you try to stand. As long as you can still study, read, or scroll your D.D.D., it’s usually not too bothersome and easier to let Belphegor do what he wants.

The scowl on Mammon’s face says otherwise. “Ya really gonna let him walk, err, sleep all over you like that? How many time’s he done that this week?” He tisks and stomps his foot, looming over you with crossed arms. “Belphie, wake your ass up! Yer big bro has a bone to pick with you!”

You feel a warm exhalation on your leg. Belphegor seems to be sighing, but doesn’t bother opening his eyes or acknowledging Mammon in any other way, much to the elder’s chagrin.

“Push him off!” Mammon insists.

“I’m flattered you think I’m strong enough to push a full grown demon off of me,” you admit, lightly ruffling Belphegor’s hair. “But, no. I’m not.”

“Don’t encourage ‘im!” Mammon grabs Belphegor by the collar.

At this provocation, the youngest curls an arm under your thigh and nudges his nose into the fabric of your clothes. He refuses to budge. “They don’t mind it, so just leave us alone.” Belphegor’s muffled voice sounds tired and annoyed.

“Belphie, let go! Ugh, use your pact!” Mammon literally growls. “Don’t coddle this jerk, you spoil him too much!”

“Don’t yell at me about it! I’m just sitting here!” you pout. ”And Belphie, watch where you’re grabbing.” It’s not your fault these guys go crazy over you. “Pact orders are painful for you guys, yeah? I don’t want to go through all that trouble. I’m still learning how to control the magic and it’s not worth it right now.”

“Hah? You kiddin’ me?” Mammon taps his foot and gnashes his teeth as Belphegor gives him the cold shoulder. “Fine then. Be that way.”

He goes to walk away, but abruptly turns back and returns. It’s evident when Mammon gets a new idea into his head. You can practically see the light bulb pop up over his head as he dons a cheeky grin.

“Spread your legs for me,” he demands.

“What?” Now you’re staring at him, disbelief etched into your features. You knew Mammon had the occasional lewd thought but even for him this was brazen. Maybe his brothers are right and he’s finally lost it.

“Spread your legs for the Great Mammon! C’mon!”

Belphegor snorts and turns his head ever so slightly, just enough to give his dumb older brother the evil eye. Mammon is tired of waiting and seizes his chance to yank your knees apart. By your own admission, you can’t fight the strength of a full grown demon.

“You’ve got two legs, there’s plenty a room for two demons here.” There isn’t exactly much space, but Mammon lays his head back on your thigh and grins up at you, bumping his noggin against Belphegor in the process.

Ah. You realize this was his goal and Mammon was just being too stubborn to come out and say it.

Your face grew hot. It felt weird to manspread with two doting demons on your legs. “You really could have phrased that better.”

“Whatddya mean?”

You sigh. “Think about it.”

Belphegor exhales again, probably laughing under his breath this time as he re-adjusts his arm to a cozier position.

Mammon is content just to admire you from below until he connects the dots, and a deep red blush spreads across his face. He turns, winding his arms around your back to better hide his face in the folds of your shirt.

He closes his eyes against you, his nose brushing against your side. “I don’ wanna think ‘bout anything. I work too hard, just lemme rest here a while.”

You allow it, ruffling his hair knowing full well you coddle both of them too much.

➳ lucifer sighs irritably, looking up at you. “i don’t know why you’re forcing me to study,” he says. “i already know i’ll pass this quiz with ease.” “don’t be so sure of yourself,” you chide. “i know you’re confident, but pride goeth before the fall and all that.” lucifer rolls his eyes, even as he flips his book open to the necessary pages. a sudden idea strikes you and you lean over, kissing him, near the mouth but not on it. “look,” you begin, “i’ll kiss you for real if you get a hundred, how’s that?” “you’re playing a dangerous game,” lucifer warns, a glint in his eyes. “get ready to hold up your end of that bargain.”

➳ mammon groans, unable to focus. “this is so dumb,” he whines. “we both already know i’m gonna fail, so what’s the point of me tryin’ to do this?” you watch him for a moment, trying to decide on the best motivator. when in doubt, keep it simple, right? pressing a kiss to his cheek you make sure to linger, making sure he’s left wanting more. “how about this: no real kisses until you pass,” you suggest, and he slants his eyes at you. “you’re evil,” he mutters, even as he picks up his pencil and begins scribbling notes, “absolutely evil!”

➳ levi taps his pencil on the desk. “i’m so unmotivated,” he complains. “usually in games, there’s a reward for doing something you don’t want to do! in real life, however, there's not.” rolling your eyes at his theatrics, you come up with a reward for him. “how about this?” you ask, “no more kissing until you’ve shown me a hundred.” “what?” levi squawks, and you pull him closer, kissing him lightly on the cheek. “yes, i quite like that idea,” you muse. “that’s all you’ll get until then.” levi looks at you for a moment, gauging your seriousness. “fine,” he decides with vigor, “i’ll just give it all i’ve got so i can get the ultimate reward!”

➳ satan knows you have something planned so when you unveil your ultimatum coyly, breath warm on his cheek, he does his best to come off as unimpressed. “now that’s just unneeded,” he says mildly. “we both know i’m going to score perfectly on this, as i do all of my other assignments.” “you never know,” you say with an airy shrug, and he shakes his head exasperatedly, returning to his studies. though his attitude is largely uncaring, it doesn’t escape your notice that he’s just a little more focused, highlighting and annotating with increased intent.

➳ asmo has been whining about studying since you sat down and it’s really starting to get on your nerves. however, he reacts much better to a challenge than outright scolding so you know you need to come up with an effective motivator. “you’ve got this,” you say, giving him a kiss on the corner of his lips, purposefully missing. “i believe in you.” “you missed,” asmo says, intending to pull you back, but you draw away, gutting. “nuh-uh,” you say sweetly, “no more until you’ve successfully passed the test.” he pouts then, trying to appeal to you, but you’re unmoving. “fine!” he says, pointing a finger at you, “i’ll pass this so hard and then you’ll have to pay me back for all of the ones i’ll be missing in the meantime!”

➳ beel listens to the challenge seriously, genuinely, and you have to resist the urge to kiss him right then and there for being so cute. but you’ve got to be strong! one more failed quiz and he’s suspended from the basketball team for a game! “i’ll do my best,” he promises gravely, throwing himself into his studying with renewed vigor. “you better,” you tease, “after all, a lot is on the line.” “it is,” he agrees, and ugh, you really want to kiss him! this was supposed to be a punishment for beel, but why do you feel like you’re losing out?

➳ belphie can’t help but push back at you like the brat he is. “what happens if i don’t pass?” you cross your arms then, unprepared for such a question, and try to make it less obvious you don’t have an answer ready. “i guess you’ll just have to suffer forever,” you finally decide, forcing as much sincerity into your tone as possible. “i mean, i can live without kissing you but can you really say the same?” belphie growls, all too aware he’s being goaded, but you tug at his strings masterfully. “fine, i’ll study!” he announces. “but not because of you, got that? i just really want to do well on this for totally unrelated reasons!”
