"Hoovervilles" were shanty towns put up by the homeless during the Depression. They were named for President Herbert Hoover, who resolutely denied the existence of any economic crisis. This one, in 1933, was on the Great Lawn in Central Park.

As you can tell I’m a sucker for documentaries and this one is perfect. Anyone who has ever been to a crowded metropolis in the global south. Will be met by throngs of young mostly men and boys hawking and standing around I. The street. Living scrappy off the radar lives doing whatever it takes to get survive, think the marauding youth gangs from the movie city of god. In this documentary the documentarian let’s the subjects tell their stories, the documentarian doesn’t condescend to them or take pity on them. The documentarian simply lets their stories breath and we access the throngs of human beings that populate the millions of shanty’s, favelas, ans ghettos that populate our unfair world.

I don't usually make this kind of post, but I have to call out Elcid Barrett. That guy came to town with a letter of marque from the king and the scummiest vessel I'd ever seen, looking for twenty brave men (all fishermen) to join his crew, and he promised we'd:

But what we actually did was:

Put to sea on the king's birthday

-Little munchkin, bob tailed, curled eared, chubby cat with a semi van like pattern and the biggest cutest eyes imaginable. Dived through seas wiki and she doesn’t have a set eye color so I gave them yellow/blue eyes to match with seas ocean theme

-They are a total boat cat and her owners take sea on every vacation, out boating, exploring. She loves water so much and definitely hops into the sink every time it’s turned on to just get soaked. They wear a harness to go on walks and so if she were to ever get lost anyone who finds sea would know seas a pet and not a stray

-Called a light brown cat but idc abt that so she’s mostly cream with brownish reddish swirls. I think they were from a backyard breeder who dumped sea, she was adopted at a shelter by their owners who sea loves with all their heart. Totally a cat who sings/chirps/meows all the time

-Hc Shanty as bigender using She/They/Sea pronouns and is a lesbian. Best ship is Shanty and Leopard I love them <333
