This is a Gerber knife (MK II)! I have one. They're awesome, and that little trick where he switches grips mid-move is nowhere as simple as he makes it look; Gerbers are a pain for precision work unless you spend literal ages accustoming yourself to the feel of the weapon. (Yes, fucking around with your weapon is the best way to familiarize yourself with it, provided you're careful.) The Soldier starts out with the knife pointing horizontally, perpendicular to his body (i.e., in position to stab straight outwards), and switches grips so that the knife blade is parallel to his body, pointing vertically (i.e., in position to stab straight downwards). I think I remember seeing an interview somewhere where Sebastian Stan talked about how much time he spent both on- and off-set practising that particular move, because it's NOT easy.
TL;DR competence kink is a go.
on the one hand
what is the fucking point of flipping it you pulled it out of the sheath by the handle there’s no goddamn need for that
why even bother having a special spot easiy to reach in your black leather suit for knives if you’re just going to play with them when you take them out
but on the other hand
