Lookism at the Zoo

Time for some nonsense (I miss the slice of life days and I have too much time on my hands)

Daniel: he's just happy to be here. We've already seen him at Notte World. Another school trip? With friends? Cute animals? Fun memories? SO EXCITED !!!!

Jay: whereever Daniel goes, he goes. Any part of the zoo is his fave when he gets to look around with Daniel. Makes the group take a lot of pics of both of them for the memories. Considering hiring out the zoo so him and Daniel can go alone another time

Zoe: also tags along with Daniel and Jay but feels like a third wheel. If only little Daniel was here... Daydreaming about being with little Daniel then getting angry and flustered with herself

Joy: competing with her bro for Daniel's attention. Tries to wander off with just him on their own but no chance with Jay and Zoe around

Crystal: gives some structure to the Daniel harem. She's excited to look around, and actually gives the group some direction on where to go

Jake: happy to be wandering around without having too many worries for the day. That's for tomorrow Jake to worry about. Finally gets to spend some time with Sinu and Big Deal just like the old days. Teaches Jerry about the different animals and reads the signs and placards with him

Samuel: kicked out for smoking

•Hawk literally will do anything for this kid, literally anything. He goes as far as blowing off training to do stuff that involves the baby.

•What do you mean they are sick? Coughing and bowing snot bubbles and won't stop crying? Hawk is skipping practice to go pick up the babys prescription at the drug store. He's even going to grab a little toy, maybe a new stuffed animal for them while he's at it. He's going as fast as he can to grab the stuff so Reader isn't all alone with a crying sick baby.

•Hawk is the kind of dad to buy stuffed animals all the time. He can't stop getting them for the little bugger. When he goes to golf-n -stuff he can't help but get a stuffed animal with his tickets, even if Reader isn't there he will get one without thinking about it. Talking about drugstores, he's definitely that “dad” who always grabs a stuffed animal from one of those $5 bins in the store. It's just something about seeing the baby's face light up everytime he brings them a new one that makes his heart melt. There room/nursery is covered with them.

•Hawk was secrecy scared that the baby might be afraid of him because of his scar. He's seen to many movies where kids are scared of people with scars, both facial and body ones. He thought about going as far as buying make up or stealing some from his mom to cover his lip scar, but he chickens out. When he holds the baby for the first time and they just smile at him, maybe even giggle at him, he’s sold. I think his heart breaks open just a little when they first touch his scar, they don’t scream or cry, they just pat at his top lip and smile.

•Loves dates where the baby gets to come with them. Sometimes he has to be specific with “No you don’t have to try and find a babysitter, I want to take BOTH of you out.” He never gets over the smile Reader has when he says it, because he knows she feels a little insecure about being a single mom sometimes. But he loves them both and he never wants her to feel like that, because he wants her, and her baby.

•He’s the guy who takes them out to a nice dinner at a nice restaurant. If anyone looks at them weird or side eyes the baby, Hawk is glaring right back at them. No one is going to look at his kid like that, parents can go out and eat to. He's bouncing them on his leg if they get fussy or upset at dinner. Don't tell Reader but he def let's them have a finger full of chocolate sauce from his dessert when she's not looking.

•Talking about food, when they are allowed to start trying new foods, Hawk is ready and excited. You will probably never see someone so excited about watching a baby get covered in spaghetti. Definitely does the thing where he takes whipped cream and shots some in his mouth then let’s the baby mimic him and put some in their mouth. Laughs so hard when they stuff their little hands in their mouth trying to keep the sweet cream in their mouth. Sticky fingers for days.

•He tells his mom that he is dating someone but he doesn’t tell her about his gf being a single teen mom. He doesn’t want her bothering him or his gf over it. (Everyone Headcanons that Eli mom is all sweet, but I have a feeling she would nag at Eli for going out with someone with a kid. Idk she gives me “you need to be a kid- you should get married and have a kid- she might even pull a “you don’t need someone weighing you down” she’s nice when Eli is older but overbearing when he’s a teen.)

•When Daniel and Johnny find out, Johnny is shitting his pants. Johnny couldn’t handle Robby in his late 20s-early 30s, how was Hawk out of all people doing it so well? Daniel thinks watching Johnny have a crisis is funny. Daniel and Amanda are helle supportive. Daniel thinks that it’s extremely honorable that Hawk didn’t cause a huge scene over Reader having a baby, explaining quickly about how it was in the 80s. Amanda thinks it’s sweet to watch him with the baby, Amanda may have a issue with buying stuff for the baby and sending it to Reader. Amanda likes baby’s like a lot. Johnny try’s to be supportive but, he literally knows jack shit about raising kids. (Insert Robby side eyeing him the whole time)

•He loves it when Reader brings the baby to the dojo. Not just for practice, but he likes it when he gets to see the two of them playing outside. He loves watching them play with the grass outside he dojo or watching Reader point out different fish in the pond. Hawk is slowly starting to enjoy the peace and quite after the dojo war ends. Reader and baby are a plus.

alright, here’s my sorry disclaimer again bc i always feel like i’m being annoying sending u the longest message ever

starting this part with bambi’s overall confusion furthers my point from last time! she’s a little girl and would likely choose her current favourite but still 🥺 it’s important to have her included or at least informed (probably by eli, because she’s the best at being unbiased) by everything that’s going on. justice for my girl. thinking the door’s grown and the intrusive thoughts about the doorknocker? the recurring mental notes that jenni’s gone back to mexico? poor bambi’s overcome with anxiety and this should have been avoided by letting her know what was going on.

i don’t even know how to express the way i was feeling through the entirety of bambi returning to alexia’s house but it’s something akin to the unsettling fear you get when you know something’s going to happen in a horror movie… and if that’s how i feel… how does bambi feel? it’s so awful that she goes through her own mental checks to try and understand and accept everything as it’s presented to her… i feel like it will further her lack of self-confidence. i hope she doesn’t internalize the “it is what it is” mindset so much that she is unable to discern when people take advantage of her and she’s left to accept the things that happen to her even if it isn’t right. teen!bambi i am watching you. with love and care and kindness (and so i can report back to alba and jenni in case anything happens)

i think i figured out the shattered train metaphor for this narrative—it could be alexia! alexia who’s had something difficult happen to her (ie. her pregnancy and initial stages of having bambi, this entire disaster of neglect, nearly losing it at the sight of her child being intubated—leading to the shattering of the train) but with love and time she’s patched up (by olga and jaume) and she’s able to return back to bambi in the end.

had the train been kept safe, or even now as it’s patched together by olga, it remains ever-present in bambi’s life. i imagine it’s in bambi’s bedroom now on her bedside like it was in the hospital. what matters now is bambi’s perceptions of it—and that’s where i think the doorknocker becomes very symbolic. no one uses it—not alba, not eli, and the only person who seems to notice it is bambi.

bambi is very similar to the doorknocker. we see she questions why no one chooses to use it—it functions the same way as the doorbell after all, and i think that’s symbolic of alexia “forgetting” her and essentially how everyone becomes so focussed on “what’s best for bambi” (ie. using the doorbell) and overlooking bambi’s perceptions/emotions (ie. not using the doorknocker.) idk if i’m making much sense but in this narrative, bambi decides she’ll give some attention and love to that doorknocker. she chooses to acknowledge that doorknocker (she chooses to acknowledge her feelings) and to me that’s symbolic of bambi truly allowing alexia in and letting herself be loved by her once again.

this part works in alexia’s initial decision in injured vii (where she tells eli not to bring bambi back.) it also brings us full circle with olga and her uncertainties about her relationship with bambi. both of them have gone through some developments with bambi and it’s nice to see that this ending nurtures bambi’s love for trains and allows her to spend time with them as an entire family <3 justice for jenni though. dw jenni, i’ll make my way over to the airport and come pick u up.

in the end? you’re awesome, i’ve loved this entire series with alexia, but i’m very excited for jenni’s part. 🤭 also, though i understand alba’s feelings… does she ever come around? based if she doesn’t. but does bambi ever intervene when she’s older? does eli? does alexia try harder for alba’s forgiveness?

He’s awake even before the alarm rings, he always is. He has to go though he wishes he could stay toasted under the blankets wrapped around them and the warmth of her body. Outside, it continues to rain, not the deluge that chilled the air earlier, but a soft rhythmic rain that has the mysterious ability to lull him back to sleep. 

His movements are light, gently moving her hand away but it wakes her. She grumbles, hand returning to slap against his chest. His fingers tangle in her hair, ruffling it. 

“I have to go,” Gavin utters softly.

“No,” she whines and places her head atop his chest, weight shifting against him. She continues laying there, relishing the pleasure she feels from his caresses. Lazily, his fingers travel down her spine, back and forth. 

“Sorry,” he says and goes to kiss her head but she looks up, pouting. “I’ll be back at six today, as early as I can. Then my night belongs to you,” he goes to have his morning kiss but she looks away, shoving her bop of messy hair into his face.

Swiftly he avoids the “attack,” chuckling. Feeling a little mischievous, the fingers on her spine go to her hips and it’s one second too late before she realises. Because by then she’s laughing and struggling against him, trying to free from his locked grasp. “OK! OK!” she blurts out, panting and laughing from the ticklish surprise. Too bad for the officer, she’s yet to admit defeat. 

“Hmm, you’re one naughty man, Gavin,” she says, voice oozing sexiness. She wears a sultry gaze and he knows he’s not leaving the bed until she has her way. 

She taps her nails from the dark trail slowly inching forward to his collarbones where she kisses the space between them. Her lips move up to his open ones, her fingers circle his nipple before moving the opposite. 

“Baby, not now,” he pleads, there’s no way this will end quickly. He groans when she grasps him, semi hard and throbbing. All thoughts of leaving early have gone out the window as he surrenders to her whims.

The group receives a text from their Commander explaining he will be late today and everyone is shocked, it is out of the Commander's character. Everyone wonders why. Maybe not everyone. Eli, with unfortunate speed guesses it and begins to wonder yet again why he has no girl to make him run late.

I love him too 🥺😍 tbh I kind of struggled with this one, so I hope it's good, anon.

After the school fight, Hawk feel pretty defeated. Not only that, but he's achy all over and he pretty cut up thanks to that damn trophy case.

Despite not wanting to be seen by anyone who witnessed the fight, he goes to the only person he wanted comfort from: his girlfriend.

He knows he can go to her for anything; she'll listen to him and understand, unlike others. Her patience is comfort in of itself. So when she asks him how he's feeling after everything went down and he doesn't immediately say anything, he at least knows she isn't judging him.

As she stands in front of him, between his legs as she holds his face with gentle hands and cleans his wounds, his hands rest on her waist. She's like a cuddly teddy bear, but way better. His hands are also cold and she's warm, so he'll slip his hands under her shirt to warm up his fingers.

She apologizes when he winces and he mumbles how it isn't her fault. He doesn't push the blame onto anyone verbally, but he's scowling as he thinks of Demetri...

She's careful to bandage him up and is just so tender with him, he's so soft by the time she's done. He's looking up at her with the biggest puppy dog eyes ever and she leans down and kisses his bruises.

As she gets to his scar, she whispers, "you're so strong, Eli."

He wants to scoff, but only mutters, "no I'm not. I lost what should have been an easy fight."

"Your strength isn't measured in how many fights you win."

He doesn't say anything and hugs her, resting his head against her soft belly. He just closes his eyes and they take a moment to hold each other. There's no words to express how appreciative he feels to even have her in his life, let alone get to call her his girlfriend.

Before they move to the bed for some cuddles, he lets her wash his hair. It helps him relax; her fingers raking through his hair and washing out the gel and product feels so nice. She towel dries it and brushes it for him, knowing he's tired and needs to rest.

When they cuddle, he lays half on top of her, his head on her chest and one leg between hers. He wraps his arms around her and hold her, gently squeezing her rolls on occasion like a squishy. He also wants her to play with his hair, but won't say it out loud, which is okay. She knows.

After a while, he'll finally tell her how he feels. From losing his fight with Demetri to what happened to Miguel. He's going through all the emotions, from anger to guilt and trying to cope. It's a lot on his shoulders on top of his hurt ego.

He doesn't know what can be said, the situation so complicated and difficult. He closes his eyes, half expecting no response, but then she tilts his head up to have her look at him.

"You've already been through so much and I know this seems bad now, but this isn't gonna last forever. It's okay. You're gonna get through this, and I'll be right here with you."

He support makes him feel good about it, even the worst of it, and if she still believes in him, then that's really all he needs. Deep down, he'll always know she's there for him.

They eventually fall sleep in each other's arms and he snuggles into her like she's his personal pillow. He's okay and he's going to be okay.

Imagine the kids spent their week at their mom's place, and the weekend at Eli's. Her full name is Elisabeth Seraphine Herondale, but everyone calls her Elys

Elys and Clary know each other before canon (they live in the same neighborhood)

She didn't know about the supernatural, she was raised as a Mundane (at least of half of her life, and she doesn't remember anything before that)

She was raised by Valentine until she was like seven/eight. While Jace was sent with the Lightwoods (and everyone thought he was a Wayland), she was sent in the Mundane world!

Also, Jace and Elys were raised in different places. Elys was raised with Jonathan! (That's also why they don't know they're twins when they meet! They didn't even know each other's existence!)

Oh I totally agree. I can see Eli like watching Tommy when he’s like 3 or 4 and he’s playing on a fence (which he was told EXPLICITLY not to do lol) while Eli has his back turned. yes! the farthest eli ever goes is like raising his voice at them. i feel like saying eli would be a good dad is slightly controversial due to the time and just like who he grew up with as a father, but like when i look at a character i just know whether or not they’d be a good dad and eli would be.

Before I get into the actual review, I want to say that when I first heard this medley I wasn't really familiar with Wicked at all. Then a while ago, I listened to the official soundtrack so I could get more context for VP's arrangement, and. Holy crap guys. Having that context gave me SO MUCH MORE appreciation for it (you'll see what I mean if you keep reading). I would highly recommend listening to the original Wicked soundtrack, if not for the extra context then just because it's just an amazing musical in and of itself.

Now, enough about that. Let's get to the review:

0:00 - Cesar did not have to put this much soul into this first song but he did and I'm eternally grateful

0:27 - Same goes for Eli, like DANG

0:36 - Ooh those harmonies!! I freaking love it when harmonies go from being relatively simple to complex like that

0:38 - Emoni coming in clutch with her lil solo, man I missed her so much lol

0:44 - Love the vocal painting on the word "lonely", as in how Geoff and Layne drop out to make the word literally sound lonely 🙌

0:55 - Ok Geoff, I hear you with that subtle double octave jump in the background there 👀

1:07 - Nothing like some awesome runs to kick off a new song, amiright??

1:14 - Rachel's acting is amazing! Going into this I didn't know what character she was portraying, but she really sold the innocent eagerness of Elphaba at this part. In other words, I could understand the story perfectly without actually knowing the story 😂

1:58 - Geoff's subharmonics will never get old 😏

2:12 - Layne's fills will also never get old 🙌

2:20 - I have no idea how they coordinate the ritardando (slowing down) to transition, but MAN they make it sound effortless

2:51 - I'm pretty sure Layne's ingressive phonation here (i.e. the weird sound he makes) is taken from VP's ACA Top 10 Broadway, which is a great callback! You can really hear how much he's improved since then 😁

3:37 - VIBE CHECK (this whole part is an absolute bop, especially compared to the original. Not to say the original isn't good, because it's awesome, I just mean stylistically lol)

3:45 - Seems like Geoff is wondering the same thing lol

4:05 - LOVE how they used lyrics from Defying Gravity as a transition, it's not in chronological order and it's not even the next song in the medley, but it works so well in the narrative they're telling in their version, and it's just so creative

4:12 - I freaking love bell tones 😭 (the "dm dm dm's")

4:20 - Love how everyone decrescendos into silence for Emoni's solo, sometimes less is more and this is definitely one of those times. You don't often hear silence from everyone but the soloist in a cappella (except at the very beginning of a song), but here it's really effective because it lets Emoni's words really hit home

4:33 - I love Cesar's tone here so much, I can't really describe it but it's so good 😭

4:40 - THEIR BLENDDDDD ugh they sound so good together

4:56 - Ok maybe I'm reading WAY too into this, but I love how Rachel and Emoni start the line in harmony and end it in unison, because it parallels Elphaba's and Glinda's unlikely friendship - starting off not really liking each other, but growing to become best friends. Idk if that was the intention arrangement-wise, but if so it's absolute genius 🙌

5:30 - You cannot convince me that Cesar and Geoff aren't singing that line directly to each other. You Cannot

5:34 - Ok, again, I'm probably reading way too much into this lol but whatever. I freaking LOVE this transition, because unlike before, the line starts in unison and ends in harmony, showing how Elphaba has changed as a person and is actually very different from Glinda. And then that's followed by the lyric "I have been changed". And both of those things make for a PERFECT transition into Defying Gravity, which is all about how Elphaba has changed and is starting a new chapter in her life, so to speak. So yeah idk if that was intentional but it's how I'm interpreting it and I think it's absolutely amazing

5:47 - these HARMONIES!!! Ugh they give me chills every time lol

6:05 - Ok, Defying Gravity might be one of my favourite VP songs ever (or parts of a song, in this case). The arrangement is so energetic and complex, and there are so many awesome little details, and Rachel is such a freaking powerhouse, it just fires me up so much 🙌

6:12 - Love Geoff's subharmonic followed by a cool little riff!

6:35 - Those staggered "dm's" (idk what else to call them lol) that everyone's doing are SO impressive. Everyone has to have perfect timing, especially if they're on the off beat, and it's so fast and tight and sounds completely effortless, it's amazing

6:43 - Sure, go even higher than the already-very-high original. Because Rachel can just Do That

6:55 - Love the contrary motion (i.e. some people go up and some people go down)!

7:05 - Nice callback to the beginning of the medley!

7:13 - EPIC final chord progression, not to mention the crazy range of the very last note (Db1 - F5)!

Final Thoughts:

Eli really outdid himself on the lighting for this one!! I think there was something different for all 8 songs, not including the bubbles during Popular. Idk how he does it but he does it so well 👏

Normally my favourite VP songs are the more theatrical ones where they dress up and everything, but I have to say, this arrangement and performance is SO AMAZING, it’s in my top 5 favourite VP songs ever. The fact that it only has about 300k views is an absolute crime - Geoff didn’t spend LITERAL YEARS on it for it to get this little attention 😭 so if you feel so inclined, please go give it some love!

Okay so I know that Elliot was like "I want to find balance in this...whatever this is" and Olivia said "let's call it friendship" or whatever but was there another thing that happened in the last episode that I'm missing? I feel like something big happened that I need to know about

Ok a lot happened lmao let me try to break this down:

Olivia's best friend came back to defend Wheatley at the trial for killing Kathy, and Olivia was big mad about it ("I feel betrayed by you") and Wheatley got off. It was revealed in open court, in front of his children, that Elliot kissed Angela and she said she was in love with him (these poor kids. First Elliot says he loves Olivia and then Angela says she loves Elliot. They're going thru it). Olivia yelled at Elliot for not asking about what she'd been through while he was gone and called him out for their relationship being a one way street with her always supporting him and him not giving back and she dragged his ass over the letter. When she asked him why he gave it to her he said I guess I just didn't know how to begin 🥺

Eli got overwhelmed by the trial, ran away, got framed for murder - presumably orchestrated by Angela - who gasp! Has been faking being crippled/mentally compromised by the poison - and or her daughter - Elliot and Olivia had to go on a road trip to save him and co parent him and they held hands in the car, and Elliot, remembering what Olivia said to him, asks who she's been with, she reveals that Ed was important to her but does not tell Elliot that Ed is Tucker, Olivia says how about we call it a friendship for now and Elliot immediately says hey my friend Olivia in the sweetest voice and invites her and Noah over for a family Christmas party and Olivia says can I think about it but she's all breathless and heart eyes, we see the Christmas party only when Elliot goes to open the door to Olivia and Noah it's not them but his boss who says something like I've got some bad news and fade to black but if you ask me I think the bad news is just that Wheatley isn't going to be retried (ok Rafa didn't win the case he just got a mistrial) but is instead going to be working with OC? As an informant? This is information we got in pieces from other places but I maintain that after Ayanna left there's no reason to believe Olivia and Noah didn't turn up for the party and I would like to see it.

I glossed over a lot (the Eli stuff was SO MUCH) but I think that's the highlights lmao

I feel like he’s always thinking about his mom as he parents but especially when he had Eli because it is his first time being a parent, and he tries to think of what his mom did and if what he’s doing is similar to what she did (because he thinks she did a great job even if he can’t remember much).

He does beat himself up internally if he misses milestones because of work. The first roll over, the first smile, the first laugh, giggle, etc. He wants to be there for all of that, and he probably was but Levi can be tough on himself when it comes to the people he loves and he thinks he shouldn’t miss a moment of anything.

this young adult fantasy series has a big piece of my heart because it isn’t just the reader gaining insight into argentine folklore but the main character, manu, also learns more about where she comes from and what’s really significant in her culture.

not only is this series a love letter to the author’s home country, but it discusses a lot of issues that come with gender politics & immigration, showing how with as much magic & wonder there is to discover, there’s also some deep-rooted prejudices to overcome.

🥺: what's a truly underrated book/series you recommend and wish the whole world would read?

answer: the skybound saga by alex london

also a young adult fantasy, this series has complicated sibling dynamics and is set in a vibrant world where birds play a central role in a society that both fears and respects such creatures. the books get darker and darker the more history is unfolded and secrets are revealed, anger manifesting itself in the cruelest ways among characters as they all share so much grief it blinds them until the end.

this series has two central perspectives but there’s a wide range of characters, even those who are relatively minor, that have a voice in the narrative and once you reach the finale it all just clicks. each and every one of them are victims of a violent event that goes way far back and with each puzzle piece that is uncovered, there’s so much more you come to understand about why things happened the way they did.

i can’t believe that i haven’t heard more people rave about this series.

knowing there’s an anthology specifically focused on aro-spec folks feels like a stroke of luck and so i can’t help but want to add on this title as well since it deserves so much more recognition, just as well as the aromantic community, because we do exist and there is a huge group of us.

this anthology doesn’t focus on how just one aro perceives their personal relationships, but covers a whole spectrum that takes place in so many different worlds and uncovers so many different dynamics it means a lot to know that it exists in this world.

💟: a book/character trope you can't get enough of?

answer: family sagas & lovers to enemies

an example for the former would be books like “things we lost to the water” by eric nguyen & the greenbone saga by fonda lee. i’m very sentimental and family does mean a lot to me so i can’t help but seek it out in fiction. where found family resonates with some (i do love that trope as well), stories focused on the highs & lows of those who share blood resonate a stronger chord with me.

an example for the latter would be victor & eli from the villains series by v.e. schwab and the darkling & alina from the shadow & bone trilogy by leigh bardugo.

with victor & eli, they never really were lovers but they did share a deep bond that rivals obsession and crawls into something much more intense once they become enemies. that kind of betrayal hits too close to not acknowledge how much potential they could’ve had if they didn’t rip themselves apart.

the same can be said for alina & the darkling as just before alina discovers the darkling’s true intentions, they had their first kiss; it was something so special to them both bc it felt like they were crossing into a territory that could reveal a lot of light for the both of them. but then this secret is revealed and all that light is washed out with distrust that only further enlightens their dynamic as they’re still incredibly drawn to one another but stand on very opposite sides due to their own pasts.

the darklina fandom does a phenomenal job with highlighting why this dynamic is so intriguing not just in fics but in headcanons, edits, and fanart as well so it feels like i can never get enough.

i just think that kind of relationship dynamic is neat.
