The further away I get from Black Sails, the more convinced I am that Flint and Miranda are the best part of it…
I very honestly cannot think of another scene as powerful and tragic and meaningful as their 1x07 argument…
“There is no life here. There is no joy here. There is no love here. There's no LOVE here!” “What are you TALKING about?!” Just kill me.

You Kissed the Clown? Part 1
Tumblr media
(Notes: Hello new friends! I have found myself fallen under the spell of the flashy fool himself and felt compelled to create something for him.)
(EDIT: This was my first ever fic on Tumblr. It was only ever meant to be a one-shot and it turned into a 15 part series 🤦‍♀️. I have so appreciated each and every one of you liking, commenting and inboxing me about this series and others. Thank you so so much 🥹)
(S1:E2 OPLA timeline)
Tumblr media
Upon waking, you found yourself in an unfamiliar environment. Stuffed into a small crate with your three travelling companions, your dark haired friend referred to as a “crew”, your senses were still groggy from the crimson powder exploded above your small rigging.
After your “Captain”, Luffy, disclosed to the group he had consumed the map to the grand line to “keep it in a safe place”, the crate opened to reveal a darkened space. Applause rang throughout the area and your eyes were drawn to a spotlight being placed on a man dressed as a white lion. Several circus-type performers littered the room and directed the large crowd to respond with prompts written on large white panels held by several members. You noticed the features of the crowd were bearing terrified expressions, crying streaks littering their cheeks and some crusted over wounds adorning their faces and bodies.
Through the small opening of the red and white tent, a displeased figure appeared out of the shadows. You were immediately mesmerised by the figure, brightly coloured facial paint adorning his cartoonish features, a large brim hat with blue tassels hung over the folded edge and a collection of mismatched stripes, spots, fur and feather upon his physique. He had a dangerous air around him, full of malice, ill-temperament and a small amount of desperation amongst his features.
The blue haired man immediately berated his companions, yelling at them for the wrong timing, the queue being off, the lighting contrasting over a lion-like man instead of his own features. You looked to your green-haired swordsman companion, making brief eye contact with him and quirking up your brow in question. He shook his head at you and nodded back to bring your attention to the scene playing before you.
You had no idea how you were among this ragtag trio of misfits, especially as piracy was never an occupation you fancied for yourself. You and those within your family line were skilled jewellers; antiquity restoration, appraisal and fine gold and silver smithery was your trade. You and your father were requested to appear before Captain Morgan and add a new gem encrusted embellishment to his recently acquired new head for his Axe-Hand.
You witnessed the fight that was brought out with Helmeppo and several other marines at the skilled hands of Roronoa Zoro. At that point, your father decided he was no longer going to be working with Captain Morgan; no payment was enough to continue working for a man that allowed his child to bully those lesser than him. You were given a choice then to find your own way in the world and bring attention to your own skilled crafts or to sail home with your father to return to work in the shop as a finery smith. Opting for the former of the two, you bid farewell to your father and found yourself upon the small rigging with three companions of whom you had grown fond of.
Bringing you away from your thoughts and tuning back into the conversation, your gaze fell to your orange-haired friend, Nami, as she attempted to bribe the blue-haired clown with a new crew member with untold abilities. Before you could stop her, she threw Luffy’s straw hat into the air and bolted for the opening of the large tent. Two members of the circus crew managed to drag her back to the group which she then berated the jester before you for destroying the town the tent was situated in. The conviction she held in her voice sounded quite intimidating, but the clown just laughed in response. He used a small knife to cut a piece of apple and place it into his mouth, while nonchalantly saying he didn’t destroy everything in the town – he allowed the townspeople to keep their hands to applaud his act.
You inhaled through your nose deeply and widened your eyes at his comment, breathing out slowly through your mouth while fixating your gaze onto his relaxed form. He continued to look over the four of you with a twinkling smile as he consumed his crisp apple before his gaze fell over you.
“You,” he began, pointing at you with the small knife in his hand, “you have been awfully quiet.” He gestured to the rest of the crew with the same knife, “that one threatened me,” he said pointing at Zoro, “that one attempted to bribe me,” he pointed the knife at Nami while sauntering over to the spot you were situated, next to Luffi and Zoro.
“Your Captain lays claim to what’s rightfully mine,” he continued while stalking your form. Your eyes leave his form to look to your companions.
“Don’t you look away from me!” he yelled suddenly at you, causing you to flinch in response. Your body began to tremble slightly at his demands, not used to threats of great violence being thrown at you at a whim. He almost danced over to your place on the ground, bringing his body within an uncomfortable proximity to your own. He made no effort to hide his gaze raking over your body from the hair on your head to the shoes adorning your feet.
Although he had a large nose that immediately drew your attention to it, you couldn’t help but to notice the hue of his irises hidden amongst white, red and blue paint. The intensity of his gaze was drawing you in like a moth to a flame. The hue was akin to several fine gemstones you worked with in your family’s smithery. Jade, sapphire, tourmaline and emerald being the first stones that sprung to your mind while gazing at the angry and menacing clown before you.
“And what would you do, hm?” he condescendingly smirked at you, “you’re no fighter, by the looks of you.”
You held his gaze, staring deeply into his mischievous teal eyes while searching your mind for a response to his pointed question. He placed the small knife into his breast-pocket within his long fur coat and stalked slowly over to you like an animal prowling over to their meal. You trailed your eyes over his form slowly, raking and sizing him up with a small amount of unbridled suggestion held behind your eyelids.
Unsure if what came over you was bravery, stupidity or something else entirely, you reached your right hand forward and swiftly grasped the mustard coloured cravat hanging tightly from his neck and pulled him into you with all of your strength and successfully closed the distance between your bodies.
He was right of course, you were no fighter. Your skills lay in appraising fine metals, gemstones and hand whittled crafts. You read books filled with fairytales, poetry and refrains whispered between lovers. With your occupation, an aura of charisma would often aid in sales; whether you were doing the buying or the selling. You were known far and wide in your homeland as someone with a small amount of flirtatious charm, which was why you were asked to aid your father in his journey to the “tight-pocket” Captain Morgan. You were to charm him as you did many others, swindling them out of their apprehensions and bringing more berry to the till of your family’s business.
A shocked whimper left the lips of the Genius Jester as you tenderly placed your own lips against his, bringing your left hand to his side and using it to bring his body flush against your own, cradling him into a tender embrace. Your eyes were closed as you deepened the kiss shared between you. You began using your lips to open his and caressing them slightly with your tongue.
You slowly felt him relax into your embrace as he placed one hand to the back of your head and the other hand wove itself around you, placing it to the small of your back. He almost gently laced his gloved hand into your hair and held you tightly against him. He released a stifled gasp into your mouth as the hand on your lower back squeezed slightly, pressing your bodies closer together. You released your right hand and moved it tenderly from his cravat to his jaw, feeling the slightly prickled skin beneath his painted face.
Not a word was uttered, silence engulfing the space. In this instance, nothing existed to either of you apart from the moment you were sharing with one another. The map? Gone from both of your minds as you held each other tenderly. You arched your back, pressing your chest further into him as you began lacing your fingers into the hair peaking out from the bottom of his broad hat. You snaked your left hand around his waist, beneath his fur coat and raked your fingertips over his skin, causing him to moan into your mouth and cradle you further into him.
You utilized your head to nudge his own head upward for you to deepen the kiss further. Trailing your hand from the hair under his hat down towards his neck and exploring his pectorals, you massaged down his body while holding him tightly and skillfully in this heated embrace. Your fingers began to explore the flesh of his back, lifting the material slightly to expose his flesh to your administrations.
He did not withhold any sounds from escaping his lips, as small groans released from his lips between kisses alerted you to how much he was truly enjoying your touch. You even allowed some gasps to escape your own lips as you continued to caress, massage and cradle him to yourself as he held you.
You were not foreign to the romantic touch of others by any means, but this kiss felt unlike anything you had experienced prior. You could almost feel his desire for affection as he hungrily held your body against him. Waves of loneliness escaped from his form and onto you as he began to be filled instead with your freely given affection, unlike the painted women he would pay berry for their time.
He groaned slightly and furrowed his brows together at the thought, releasing your lips from his own and holding you to him. His eyes bore into your own as your lips parted from one another, almost gazing into your very soul with the intensity he held.
Without warning, he pushed you from his body and swatted your hands from their position on his back. He turned to face away from you and brought his gaze to your captain before monologuing.
“Ok, here end the theatrics,” he began as the spot lights filter onto the four of you.
“I know one of you have my map, and I’m gonna get it back,” he said with malicious intent.
“What was it you said, rubber boy? That it was ‘in a safe place’?” he mocked with a small glint in his eye. Luffy looked to you in confusion.
“Oh, don’t look so surprised. I have eyes and ears everywhere,” he laughed. You trailed your eyes over his features, noticing the paint over his lips appeared more smudged than it had been moments prior. You then began to imagine how your face may appear after you shared the kiss with him moments prior.
“So,” he clapped his hands together and looked to his gang of circus members, “please make our guests uncomfortable in the green room.”
You felt hands clasp your wrists. You looked around to see a large man in a leotard grasping your form before you looked back to the clown. Your eyes met briefly once more, an unfamiliar emotion that could almost be described as a combination apprehension, longing and desire located in his eyes as your body was dragged to another location, this time without your captain amongst you.
You held little resistance as your body was escorted away. You looked to Luffy once more and attempted to reassure him with a nod as you walked briskly to be caged with your friends.
Nami was placed in a small cage suspended above the ground, whereas Zoro was bound to a large spinning wheel. As they were placed into these positions, their movements protesting and making it difficult for your captors to place them in these restricting positions; you held no such apprehension.
An aura of calm was coming from your form, confusing the large leotard-clad man. You placed your wrists together and held them out in front of you with a shrug and almost taunted him with how easy you were making this for him. His brows knit together in a puzzled fashion as he began to bind your hands in rope and tie you to a post away from your companions.
Once successfully restrained, the circus people left you with your thoughts as cries of laughter were echoing to the chamber that sounded like it was being pulled from the mouth of your captain.
“You kissed the clown?” uttered your green-haired, tri-sword wielding companion in a low accusatory tone, “why did you kiss the clown?”
You laughed slightly at the question, looking down at your bonds as you wiggled your hands against the tightly clasped rope, testing it for any sort of weakness amongst the restraint.
“I honestly can say I have no idea,” you smiled while pressing your knee against the post you were bound to with a small shove to assess its strength.
“It was incredibly stupid,” Nami commented from her enclosure, “if you were that touch-starved, I’m sure Zoro or Luffy wouldn’t have minded if you wanted to give them a little smooch.”
You turned your gaze over to Nami momentarily before rolling your eyes.
“Oh please,” you replied, “Zoro, I’m sure you are a wonderful kisser but unfortunately you don’t quite have what I’m looking for.”
He scoffed slightly at the comment while you moved your hands down to the hilt of your belt and began searching the folds of your skirts with your wrists.
“And if you don’t mind me asking, what does the dangerous clown-man have that Zoro doesn’t?” Nami asked with a teasing tone. Your wrists find the object within your belt and you smiled broadly, gripping it and bringing it to the light.
“Right now?” you said with a small twinkle in your eyes as you held the small object up to your new friends, "a knife."
For the first time in a while, the three of you shared a laugh before you all began to attempt an escape from the bonds of the green room.

some miwi headcanons just bc ! older ones
i see young mike as kind of loud and not realizing how loud (and annoying) his yelling near people is (ie karen yelling in s1 “mike let’s go!” “COMING!!!”) however he quickly learns not to yell around will, adopting his softer voice for him BUT
in school he’s constantly calling over to will “will come here” “will sit next to me” “will! over here! look at this!” trying to get his attention “will, will, hey will…” other kids are like dude shut up… so many kids know will’s name who’ve never seen him, and mike’s thought of as that kid who’s always calling out for his friend.
i’m an avid rock collector!mike enjoyer. on the playground, in the forest, at the park, at the lake. he’s picking up all the cool ones, storing them away for very important scientific reasons like “this one’s shiny in A Different way!” he sets aside his favorites to show and give to will, very much in the style of a cat bringing a dead rodent to their owner, like “got something special just for you :) a Very Cool Rock :)” will loves how much mike enjoys it and is very excited to receive them, feeling quite special.
will loves stuffed animals (i mean we been knew) when he was younger they all had names and backstories, interpersonal drama and storylines he played out. two stuffed cats he definitely thought of as him and mike subconsciously, as they were best friends. he would act out little dramatic scenes of them running away from some oppressive kingdom, going on an adventure and meeting new friends along the way. … and he may have made them kiss a few times …
obviously small will loved drawing, but i don’t think he was always confident in his skill. after people tell him he’s good he gets caught up in trying to be really good, and gets frustrated when he can’t do something the way he wants. hence crumpled up attempts in the trash mike fishes out. there’s a spell of time where he gives up for a bit and jonathan asks why he hasn’t seen him drawing lately, and will says he doesn’t think he can get any better, it’s too hard. jonathan tells him it doesn’t matter if it’s perfect, he should just draw to make himself happy “draw for the campaigns, your friends think it’s so cool” so will keeps at it focusing on drawing what he thinks him and his friends will appreciate
while watching scary movies in the basement mike and will always held hands under blankets. it started when they were younger and they first got permission to watch a scary movie, they didn’t want to admit they might be getting too scared. during a big jump their hands reached out on instinct and too caught up in the movie they didn’t let go. when it was over they didn’t talk about it, but then it just kept happening every time they got scared. which led to holding hands when upset outside of watching movies. they never really discussed it, it just felt like their little secret thing.
all the boys were nice to holly but will was the only friend who actually liked seeking her out to play w them. (fascinated by a little sister unlike lucas and only-child dustin) mike and will would play games with her sometimes, will thinking she was really cute, and mike thinking it was cute will really liked her. cue karen thinking will is the best influence on her son
i have such a strong image of kindergarten miwi right after they become friends making mud pies together every recess. their teacher scolds them the first few times having to scrub their hands when they come back in. it gets so bad when the recess monitor sees them heading for the dirt they’re yelling “Michael! William! don’t even think about it!” they think it’s so funny to rile them up, they start spreading mud on each others arms “will you need more than that!” they only try to eat it a few times, it does taste really gross. after they’re banned from the dirt, they move to the sand box, it’s only a bit cleaner.

I'm v curious to see how the pjo show will portray Percabeth and Percy's feelings for her throughout the show.
cause imo, in the books Percy straight up doesn't even realize he has feelings for her until much muuuuuch later (whether it be oblivion or denial), but in like book 3 he's so worried for her he's starting fights with god's. she's literally all he thinks about in the Titans Curse, but never in a romantic way. Percy never thinks about her in a romantic way till probably book 4, when she kisses him, and even then it's a rare occurrence until book 5.
we just knew he had feelings cause he'd think stuff like "wow she's beautiful," or prints out a picture of her and keeps it with him, or constantly thinks about her when Rachel was around, or think Aphrodite looked like her. ACTIONS wise I know exactly why Annabeth was yelling at him by book 5. he never showed romantic feelings for her outwardly except for rare occasions that could be interupted as friends, even when she kissed him. not until, again, book 5 when he asks for a good luck kiss and literally screams at everyone not to touch her when she's injured.
anyway, so I'm interested to see how they're going to display it for the viewers on the screen when we won't have Percy's narration telling us obvious things that show us he loves her. I'm wondering if they're going to be more straight forward with it. in the books you knew Percy liked her but again only because of his thoughts, and not until book 3 tbh. but in the show s1 already had so much implied Percabeth. like Percy looked at her so many times like he wanted to marry her right then and there that is was shocking to me (not complaining) cause Percy really only acted like he saw her as a friend by that point in the books.
SO I wonder if they're going to continue this trend of just having Percy look at Annabeth longingly a lot and hope those who haven't read the books catch on, or will they go a step further and having him talk to people about his feelings? will Percy talk to Grover about her? in the books they would never, Percy didn't even know Grover had a girlfriend at one point. they weren't the type of bromance to talk about their feelings. however TV show Grover and Percy would easily talk about their feelings. they're more open and vulnerable around each other in the show.
and if they do that, then are they going to make it canon (canon to me is if Percy knew he had feelings for Annabeth before book 4 of 5 and said it himself. he never says he has feelings, and even talks about his feelings for other characters like Calypso and Rachel, so to me its not canon that he did know unless he said those words himself) that Percy is aware of his feelings before book 5?? or are they just gonna have scenes like in s1 with Luke where he calls them an old married couple and Percy and Annabeth ignore it. I could also see Grover just teasing him about her and Percy just acts like he never even thought about it
idk I'm really interested on how they're going to show us in TV form. half of me wants it to stay canon, but the other part of me wants to see a Percy verbally attest that he likes her but she'd never like him like that - or say something like Annabeth was too good for him (which I always got the feelings was half the reason why Percy didn't pursue anything till much later). even after Annabeth kisses him he's like "as friends???? hmmm???" and I truly do no think until she yells at him for being a coward that it occurs to Percy that "Oh, that WASN'T a good luck kiss then." like he WANTED to kiss her but he didn't think she liked him like that EVEN AFTER SHE KISSED HIM. sigh. sweet, dumn Percy. how I love thee.
but show Percy really isn't as a dumb as book Percy was in the first book, so there's a huge possibility they'll make it more obvious. I feel like for the sake of wanting fans invested in the ship, they'll make him more aware of his feelings imo. they already did so in s1, and book 1 truly was just Annabeth and Percy learning to be friends.
no matter what, I cannot wait for s3, because I would do anything to see Walker act out Percy worried about Annabeth. PERCY TRYING TO FIGHT MR. D CAUSE HES NOT WORRIED ENOUGH FOR ANNABETH???? I literally cannot wait.

Tell me everything about how insane Scully is please!
how insane is scully????
you guys. i mad it through a lot of s1-3 and then started doing random episodes. this is LONG and incomplete. but you've been waiting so long already. so, under the cut:
my favorite crazy thing about scully is in the pilot, she's assigned to debunk mulder's work, and in the middle she's ready to run back to the fbi to tell them he's right because of dirt. she's known the man a few days and runs to his room to undress in front of him & run into his arms!! her face buried in his chest. she has him whipped on the first day, chasing after her. and she'll follow him anywhere.
in deep throat, mulder runs off on his own and next thing you know, scully takes another government agent hostage at gunpoint (with his own gun??) to get mulder back. she teases him, calls him crazy. he likes it so much she never stops. sucker.
in squeeze, scully just has to stick with mulder because he said she was right & played with her necklace. she has to know every thought in his head. she calls him to gossip about colton because now they're best friends.
in the jersey devil, scully whines when mulder sends her home alone, bails mulder out of jail, ditches her date the moment mulder pages her, turns down a second date & follows mulder...threatening to hurt him for teasing her. she's told her friends he's cute and tries to justify why he isn't an option. and it isn't because they work together. (as much as we say she's not getting into another relationship with a superior / colleague...she would, also insane behavior)
in ghost in the machine, scully meets jerry and dislikes him instantaneously just because he was mulder's partner (she's his partner). she knows mulder's profile without any doubt in her mind, but she still asks mulder to confirm. she tells mulder to go get a beer, as if she doesn't already know he can't stop (and even if he could, he wouldn't)
in ice, she very nearly attacks hodge for suggesting she's been infected because she was yelling at mulder. she pulls a gun on mulder and refuses to give up on him, she goes in to talk to him alone. she tackles a man twice her size with no hesitation.
in eve, she answers the phone in mulder's room!!! (this is silly but clearly, they never gave a second thought to being in each other's rooms lol)
in fire, she hates phoebe right off the bat. scully knew her game before mulder told her anything, but she asks him questions anyway. she single-handedly solves the case and gets that woman back out of his life...then scares him with a fake accent. she takes the sherlock joke and makes it hers & mulder's. phoebe who?
in e.b.e. she meets the lone gunmen, calls them the most paranoid people she's ever met, then proceeds to become the most paranoid person you've ever met, most paranoid person in the world.
in tooms, she lies to skinner to give mulder an alibi. she participated in an illegal stakeout so mulder wouldn't get himself killed. she calls him fox and tells him he's the only person she'd put herself on the line for. she is completely devoted.
in erlenmeyer flask, she teams up with a man she doesn't trust to get mulder back. she goes into a top security government facility to steal an alien fetus, and figures out the password deep throat didn't tell her about.
in little green men, she sets up a secret meeting with mulder using their little code. she talks about george hale, lets herself into mulder's apartment, hacks his computer, and tracks him down to puerto rico. where they end up running from the military. she can barely keep her hands off him.
when krycek shows up, scully snubs him because he's working with mulder. scully is his partner, she's his friend. she doesn't trust anyone else with him — and she's right.
in duane barry, she inserts herself into the hostage situation, to the point they let her talk to mulder to guide him...as the rest of them have failed. she finds the metal implant, scans it at the grocery check out, correctly surmises what it's for (at least one purpose), and screams for mulder. i also think she manages to get her necklace off so mulder will know he's on the right path when he finds it (someone else pointed this out, idr who i'm sorry!!) she remembers squeeze.
in end game, mulder knows he couldn't tell her about his sister because she would have sacrificed herself. while he's in martha's vineyard (?) she's running around d.c. on her own as she's being followed. doing all the things he taught her to evade them.
in dod kalm, she goes on his unsanctioned trip to the middle of the ocean and forces him to drink the little water they have, refusing to take it for herself. the entire time they're stuck there, she figures out what's happening and that's how the doctors save them & reverse the aging effects.
in anasazi/the blessing way, she's nearly shot and makes sure mulder doesn't go back to his apartment and instead comes to hers. she undresses him and puts him in her bed while she investigates to exonerate him. she shoots mulder and drives him across the country to albert hosteen. she tells teena mulder that mulder is okay, after walking to her mother's house with no shoes to tell maggie mulder is dead and argue with her sister. she attempts regression hypnosis but she can't do it because she doesn't have mulder.
in revelations, god is sending her signs and she believes she's supposed to protect kevin. she gets defensive at mulder's derisiveness toward religion and she doesn't hold it against him. in the end, she doesn't push and goes to confession instead, accepts his help with her coat. it's enough.
in war of the coprophages, she calls mulder all day on their day off. she rationalizes everything he finds. when he starts talking about bambi, she sleeps with the phone in her hand for when he calls again. she doesn't want to hear him talk about another woman but she does it anyway. "are you sure it wasn't a girly scream?" and then she just drives out to meet him because no one investigates with mulder except her. smart is sexy. after he asked her what she was wearing after she spouted off about darwin.
in syzygy, i don't even think i need to say anything here. she's just so insane and i love it. she's jealous & petty & mean, but also very honest about how she's feeling. in the end, they're still in sync but she is going to drive like a maniac because she's still mad.
in grotesque, scully is once again prepared to hate mulder's former boss. she doesn't need to know anything and she yells at this man for how he treats mulder. this is a woman who grew up with brothers for sure.
in pusher, scully doesn't believe mulder when he theorizes about modell's abilities. but the second he's the target, she believes. she doesn't hide her fear for him and she walks into that hospital room blind with only a bulletproof vest on. she doesn't run when he tells her too. she will never leave him.
in home, she's thinking about motherhood and having kids and asks mulder about his family. when he swings his head around to her at the question, she stares right back. i swear it's a challenge.
in the field where i died, she yells at mulder for not telling skinner the truth (she never rats on him). she still goes with him to his regression. she doesn't believe these are past lives, but she takes the information he shared and digs into the archives. she finds the american revolution era names. she tells him she wouldn't change a day.
tunguska/terma: she is held in contempt of congress to give mulder time. she trusts his instincts and not her own. she tells the court about the government conspiracy of men and continuously avoids their questions, pushing forward about the lawless men.
in never again, she likes ed because he's interested, because she can talk openly with him without consequences, because he's a sad man & a little dangerous. but then he's really dangerous. she only goes out with ed because she thinks mulder only cares about the work and not her. she gets a tattoo.
in memento mori, she only tells mulder about her cancer. she chooses to investigate instead of pursue treatment right away. she apologize to skinner. she rights letter after letter to mulder, begging forgiveness & asking him to go on. talking about how she feels him close. when she decides to start treatment, she asks mulder to bring her things & call her mother. in the end, she decides to abandon typical treatment and live with cancer.
in gethsemane/reduxes, she doesn't tell mulder he cancer has metastasized. she continues to work, getting injured on the job. she tells police the dead man in his apartment is mulder, she lies to skinner & the fbi. she runs herself ragged to the point she collapses. she begs mulder to blame her & save himself. she's adamant mulder can't trust skinner, even after skinner was shot because he tried to keep melissa's case open.
in chinga, she has no idea how to take a vacation anymore. she can't ignore the x file she stumbles into and she believes it's the doll. she microwaves a little girl's doll to save a woman.
in pine bluff variant, scully chases after mulder when they lose contact. some unknown pathogen just killed someone. she rewatches the tapes after she's sure she saw mulder let whatshisname get away, but stays silent in the meeting. he won't tell her anything but it doesn't stop her from investigating. she can't believe that he's betraying his country, and hiding anything so big from her. it gets to the point skinner has to tell her and she rails at him & that other guy for endangering mulder. she's his partner!! and she makes more headway in a few days than these other idiots did in weeks. she's relentless.
in tithonus, scully has to work a case without mulder and she hates it. she insists it isn't an x file but i think she knows. she's endeared toward fellig despite herself. she asks 'how can you have too much life?' she knows the pain of dying, of leaving people behind, of not being able to finish everything you started. she can't get enough despite all the pain & struggle. she has things to do, someone she wants to be with & they aren't there yet. and when she's got, and fellig tells her to close her eyes, don't look at him — she does it!! in this vulnerable moment, on the cusp of death, she believes. she believed him almost instantly.
in mulder & scully meet the weremonster, she approaches suspects ALONE. mulder scolds her for it both times. she tells him 'you forget, i'm immortal'
in home again, maggie dies and she loses it. she's sobbing, refusing to let them take maggie, mulder tries to get her to take time and she refuses. it's a stark contrast to her grief in beyond the sea. he can't stop her but he can be with her. we hear her call mulder 'fox' for the first time since tooms.
in the my struggles (idk which one lol) scully is desperate to save mulder. she knows what's coming and she can't lose him. "you need him, and i neee you." the truth is she needs william too, and he's so close now. she never tried to find him to keep him safe (supposedly) but for mulder, she'll take the risk. and maybe stop fighting herself for once. she's unbearably good, but her & mulder are the only ones who can save the world and she can't do it alone. (crazy, crazy, crazy)
other things: scully thinks mulder's porn habit is funny, endearing. she doesn't seem to have any (real) negative thoughts or feelings about it. she argues with him relentlessly about his theories/actions/decisions, but never in front of other people. in front of others, she backs him up, defends him, or stays silent (pine bluff variant). but she will good-naturedly make fun of him to strangers ('he chews the furniture' and something in humbug & quagmire). on friday nights, she stays home cleaning her gun, reading books, reading medical journals & writing for them. she loves jose chung. she believes in the possibility of time travel but not in science's current abilities to achieve it. she remembers every word mulder has ever said (dreams, ftf hallway speech). she literally hangs in his every word and incorporates it into her worldview, her behavior, who she is as a person. scully dedicated herself to mulder in the pilot, before she knew what it meant. and once she did know what it meant, she stayed and stayed and stayed. she believes in him so much, in what he can achieve that it drives her to do crazy things herself. something she always had in her, but now she can let it out. it has a purpose. and dana scully with a purpose is someone you don't mess with and can't be hidden in the shadows (despite the effort of a global conspiracy).

Hostage Situation (Spencer Reid x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: keep in mind, I’m on S1 right now. He is still soft baby boy, and nothing bad has happened (and i KNOW stuff is gonna happen)
T/W: guns, shooting, hostage situation, death, bad guy is on drugs MASTERLIST -
When he woke up this morning, Spencer Reid’s first thought was not that he would be stuck in the middle of a hostage situation. His usual routine was the same; wake up, get ready, stop in at a local coffee shop for some coffee, then head to work. Today was different, and he noticed it the second he walked into the shop.
Before he could even get in line to order, a man was cursing and yelling at someone behind the counter. He was just about to tell the man to take it outside to cool off, and then he pulled out his gun and shot the worker behind the counter dead.
Panic ensued, and just as he was about to jump over the counter, the man yelled for everyone in the coffee shop to sit down so he could barricade the door. This man looked crazy, and he was not about to set him off–sending one quick text to Hotch with his location and a 9-1-1 ping was all he needed.
The cops and the BAU were on the scene before he could blink. The only downside, this man was threatening to shoot someone else if they tried to get in the building–and he left his gun back at the office.
“Really not how I expected my morning. So much for treating myself.” A soft voice said from next to him, and he looked at the woman sitting next to him. Her legs were pulled up to her chest, and she had silent tears running tracks down her cheeks; but even so, she was breathtakingly beautiful.
“Did you know that only about 12 percent of hostage situations a year. In all honesty, 90 percent of them are resolved successfully. I’m betting that we’ll be okay.” He told her calmly, trying his best to keep watch as the man continued to move couches over to block the front door. “How long was he yelling earlier?”
She wiped at her cheeks before answering him. “I’d say a good 10 minutes. It seemed like he was talking nonsense though. Hate to say it, but I thought it was drugs.”
Spencer nodded. “Usually there are 4 types of hostage situations. A ‘mentally disturbed’ person, criminals trapped during the mission, prisoners revolting, or political terror. I feel like he might be the first option with the way he’s acting.” He told her, watching as the man seemed to get into an argument with himself.
“Do you normally spit facts at random or are you just making all of this up?” She asked him, watching as the corner of his lip twitched up in a smile.
“I have an eidetic memory. I can see things once and remember them for, who knows, nothing’s gone away yet.” He told her, watching as she processed the information. “You could really ask me anything, and I could more than likely tell you something about it.”
“My name is (Y/n).” She told him, eyes quickly snapping to the man who was holding them hostage as he started yelling.
He was yelling at everyone in the room; telling them all to be quiet so he could concentrate. That’s then the phone on the wall started to ring. “You! I want you to answer that!” He yelled, pointing the gun at (Y/n), eyes never actually leaving from his make-shift barricade.
(Y/n) slowly got up off the floor, going behind the counter and holding back a sob as she had to step over the dead barista to get to the phone. “Hello?”
The room was silent, trying to hear what was going on at the other end of the phone call. “Well? What is it?” The man yelled, turing to (Y/n) to shout at her, waving his gun in the air.
“It’s a call from an Agent Hotch over at the BAU. He’s saying that you need to talk to him.” She told him, handing him the phone over the counter.
The man snatched the phone off the counter, listening intensely to what the other man was saying on the other line. That was until the got mad, and threw the phone back at (Y/n), hitting her in the forehead before he turned back to hiding behind the couch.
“(Y/n)!” Spencer whispered, going over the counter and rushing to her side. The hit didn’t knock her down, but she was sitting on the ground, silently sobbing while a cut on her forehead was bleeding and running down her temple.
“He threw it so hard, I’m just so lucky I didn’t get shot.” She told him, reaching up trying to use her sleeve to stop the bleeding.
Spencer grabbed the phone off the ground, checking for any damage before he held it up to his ear. “Hotch? Are you there?”
“Reid? We got your message. This man is Gary Turner. Low level criminal, a few arrest records but nothing serious that caught our attention on the first look. Then Garcia found that the barista used to be his dealer–this man is addicted to methamphetamine and is most likely high, provoking him to shoot.”
“On average, a high can last anywhere from 4 to 16 hours depending on the strength and timing of taking the drug. That’s not even counting the initial rush of taking the drug which can last 14 hours max.” He paused, looking over to (Y/n) who was staring at him like he was crazy. “What should I do?”
“My advice is to just hang tight and wait for us to figure out an approach to getting inside. Last thing we want to do is spook him; it could provoke an attack.” Hotch told him, then let out a sigh. “If you get someone to talk him down, you could try to take him down when he’s not watching.”
Spencer nodded and then put the phone down, making sure to not hang up as the ringing could provoke the man further. “We can either wait, or try to take him down.”
(Y/n)’s eyes went wide and she shook her head. “Both of those ideas sound crazy, are you kidding me?”
“I didn’t get the chance to introduce myself earlier. My name is Dr. Spencer Reid, and I work for the BAU. I work for the FBI, and the man you spoke to on the phone is my boss.” He told her, watching as she processed the information. “You can ask me as many questions as you want, right after we’re not being held hostage.”
“What do you need me to do?” She asked, watching as he seemed to stop and think.
“Either way, it poses a risk for one of us to get shot. One of us could get shot talking to him, and one of us could get shot trying to stop him. He’s using the gun frantically, firing out of fear. It looks like he’s holding a Glock 17, which means it holds about 17 shots–16 now that he’s fired one. But we have no idea how many he actually loaded into the gun in the first place.”
(Y/n) dried under her eyes quickly, before slowly standing up from behind the counter, grabbing the phone. “Agent Hotchner said he wanted to talk to you again. Something about more questions?” She said, giving Spencer a quick nudge with her foot as a sign to start moving.
“Can’t he take the damn hint! I don’t want to talk!” The man–Gary–yelled as he stood up, pointing his gun at (Y/n) chest as he walked over and grabbed the phone. “Can’t you all understand! This wasn’t meant to go down like this! One more time asking me stupid questions, and this girl gets shot and it’s all your fault! All of this, it’s not my fault!” He yelled into the phone, waiting to hear what the man on the other end of the line had to say.
As he was yelling, Spencer slowly slid out from behind the counter, telling the other patrons inside the coffee shop to stay quiet as he worked to sneak up behind Gary, who was still yelling into the phone.
(Y/n) tried her hardest to not glance over at Spencer as he was moving; knowing if her eyes darted to him, the man in front of her would get suspicious and start to panic. “I’m sorry, he was speaking into the phone and wanted me to give it to you again.” She told him as he slammed the phone down on the counter.
“You give me this damn phone, one more damn time, I’m gonna make sure that you regret that decision.” Was all Gary could say before Spencer got to him, quickly snatching the gun from his hands and taking him down; holding his arms behind his back as he tackled him to the floor.
(Y/n) grabbed the phone. “He’s down. Spencer took him down.” Was all she had to say before a police officer burst in through the window. Different police officers rushing in to help the other victims leave the building while (Y/n) stayed by Spencer’s side. “I can’t believe you took him down.”
“Personally, I can’t believe it either.” Someone said as he walked up. She didn’t even have to ask. This was Hotch, the man she had spoken to on the phone–the man who told her Spencer was going to find a way out. “Nice work Reid. And I’d have to say, wonderful work (Y/n).” He told her, taking Spencer’s place so he could handcuff Gary before dragging him out of the building.
Spencer gave her a slight smile as he brushed himself off. “It was pretty amazing that you kept talking to him even when you could see me coming, even when you had a gun pointed at you. It took a lot of agents years of training for that level of calm.”
“I’m just as surprised as you are.” She told him with a sigh. “How do I go back to my normal day after this?” She asked him with a breathy laugh.
“Honestly? I really don’t know how you can. This is just a fraction of my everyday life, and I still can’t believe it happened when I wasn’t at work.” He told her, frowning when he remembered that she had a cut on her forehead from where Gary had struck her with the phone. “Why don’t we try to get you cleaned up before you head on your way?”
(Y/n) nodded, looking up at him before she started to cry. “I just wanted to say, thank you.” She wasted no time, quickly throwing her arms around the other man, not helping all the emotions that rushed to the surface. “I can’t thank you enough, because I honestly don’t know what would have happened if you weren’t there.”
Spencer was trying not to blush, still feeling his entire body ignite in flames. “It was nothing, honest.” This was one of the very few times in his life he seemed to be at a loss for words. “Would you be okay if gave you my phone number? Y-You know, to call me in case you start to experience any symptoms of PTSD? Those could be anxiety, nightmares, fear, flashbacks–”
“Spencer, would it be too forward to just ask if you wanted to go out with me sometime?” She asked him, smiling up at him. “I won’t say no to your number though, you know, just in case.” (Y/n) told him, leaning up and pressing a kiss on his cheek. “Thank you.”
He was blushing like an idiot, grinning down at her as his hand reached up to touch his cheek where she had kissed him, the spot feeling almost electric. “Anytime.”
“I’m telling you, she asked me out!” Spencer yelled as he stirred sugar into his coffee.
“And I’m telling you. I need to meet this girl and find out what’s wrong with her to see why she asked you out in the first place.” Morgan smirked, loving the reaction he was getting out of the younger man. “And all this happened because of some hostage situation?”
“You can even ask Hotch, he was there and everything.” He emphasized, watching as Hotch was walking by, a perfect opportunity to ask him a question. “Hotch, did the girl at the shooter situation not ask for my number, kiss me, then ask me out?
Hotch paused, his expression unmoving. “Reid asked if he could give her his number, she did in fact ask him out, but he only ended up with a kiss on the cheek. Too chicken to actually press one to her lips.” He told the two men before walking away.
“You know, for someone so smart, it’s a wonder how you didn’t get the hint she wanted to kiss you. You better kiss her when you take her out on a date.” Morgan told Spencer, giving him a firm pat on the back.
He nodded, processing the information as Morgan started to walk away. “Wait! How do I even ask her out!”

In s4, the Byers siblings lie to the wheeler siblings (who they have romantically feelings for) .And both boys incorrectly think lying to mike and nancy - will make the 2 Wheelers happier in the long run (when it does the opposite). And while in Lenora, jonathan & Will lie/distance themselves from the wheelers- which has both Wheelers inadvertently drawn to other love interests because of it. It's alot to unpack😬
Like ...that's a tra*ma response (for the boys). Lonnie would lie for selfish reasons. And now the boys are lying for "selfless" and borderline self-sacrificial reasons. Don't believe me ? ok- let me explain...
For Jonathan
In S1, lonnie claims he wants to help jonathan with college. Joyce calls out the fact lonnie is lying, yelling "dont LIE to me!' And she mentions how she knows he's lying- since he doesn't even know that jonathan's dream school has been NYU (since he was 6). S4 : jonathan lies to nancy, so nancy won't sacrifice her college dreams. And jonathan goes on a rant about how if he doesn't lie- they'd end up like his parents and he'd eventually become just like lonnie. Jonathan: "what was I supposed to do?" Argyle: "Not lie!" Jonathan: "Not lie? Argyle: "yeah! " Jonathan: Not lie?!" He also doesn't even contemplate nyu as an option (despite wanting to go there since he was 6 years old). The only options that were on the table for him were Emerson (for nancy) or lenora (to take care of joyce and Will... since he's been taking care of them ever since lonnie left). Jonathan to argyle: "I can't just leave my mom and brother" (cough like lonnie) . He never thought about himself once. Bruh...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also see jonathan's lie to nancy - makes him distance himself from her to keep the lie up. Which made her insecure about their relationship and start eyeing steve again .
For Will:
In s1 it's mentioned lonnie used to call Will h*mophobic slurs, and that despite living near by- he hadn't visited Will for at least a year. He also insulted Will when jonathan first mentioned he'd went missing. Lonnie only visits Hawkins , so he can lie and pretend he cared about Will (because he wanted to profit off of Will's de*th- for his "debts" ). He lies saying the money from Will's de*th -could be used to help jonathan with college (a lie). Joyce in the same convo , where she says lonnie is lying about jonathan/college, says : " you were here for the money... you never cared about Will! You never did!" . Will in s4: "to say how you really feel to the people you care about the most... what if they don't like the truth." Lonnie lies because he doesn't care. Will lies to mike beacause he does care (despite knowing mike isn't a fan of lying). Will lies to mike about the painting, saying it's from El - because he thinks it'll benefit the people he "cares about most" (his sister El & best friend mike). He lies to fix mike/el's relationship, because he cares for both of them . And because he's "scared" of mike's reaction to the truth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Will is going against his own moral compass, because he incorrectly believes it'll benefit the people he cares about most. But frankly, I think the lie will back fire, and upset both El and mike when they find out. Because neither El nor mike like lying (but ironically mike lied to el in s3 , and el lied -for months-to mike in s4. And Will's lie may have been the only thing keeping the couple together. )Similar to how jonathan's lie -indirectly brought steve and nancy closer together, again .
so yeah in s5, it could backfire on Will, who usually is honest. Cough foreshadowing-
Will to mike,at the skaterink: "she lied to you- right to your face " (so did you Will, about the painting & your feelings. But also El's feelings as well)
Will to El,at the skaterink: "why do you keep lying to Mike? I just don't think mike's going to like the fact your lying to him. When he finds out he's going to be mad."
Watch mike gets mad in s5. And Will incorrectly assumes mike is mad about Will's romantic feelings. When mike's actually mad about Will lying - and how Will's lie caused mike to confess to El (under false pretenses).
The only way the conflict between the Byers/wheelers can be fixed is if there's honesty (aka jonathan & Will break the relationship pattern they saw from their parents). And nancy/mike stop mirroring their parent's romance with steve/el,but I digress . It's not a coincidence the 2 divorced couples (lonnie/joyce & neil/Billy's mom) literally fight about lying .
Tumblr media
The single lie both jonathan & Will tell this season- isn't adressed at the end of s4. But we see how their lies negatively affect their relationships with the wheelers, because of it. We even see jonathan continue the lie, about college, once reuniting with Nancy. So what will s5 have in store (given all the various themes that touch upon lying, not even mentioned in this post)? I mean "friends don't lie...but boyfriends do".

Keep Us Safe (Part 2)
Tommy Shelby x wife reader
Summary: Family history repeats itself when your daughter is taken by parish authorities. This time Tommy won't let them get away with it.
Author’s Note: I have rearranged certain events from S1-2 canon to suite my purposes. Part 2 was getting too long so I split it up. Part 3 will be the conclusion.
Warnings: language, ethnic slur, kidnapping, sexual assault (not graphic), mention of blood
Tumblr media
Part 1
Tommy startled at the sound of the phone’s shrill ring, bringing him back to reality. “Mr. Shelby, it’s done. Stanley Chapman was picked up this morning. Inspector Campbell is questioning him now, but he appears to be who you say he is.”
“Thank you,” Tommy said, dropping the receiver and exhaling in relief. The bait he had dangled in front of Campbell had worked and he could once again concentrate on the upcoming race. He would approach Kimber there and everything had to be perfect.
“Arthur!” he yelled. “Arthur, get in here!”
Arthur peered around the frosted glass door asking, “What’s all the shouting?”
“I need you to talk to that barmaid, Arthur. And get a haircut! We’re going to the races!” he proclaimed happily.
————————————————————
Nora played quietly on the rug with her teddy bear as you kissed Tommy goodbye in the kitchen. Placing his hands at your hips to quell the nervous anticipation of the day, he said, “Kimber will accept. He won’t have any other choice.”
Unlacing your hands from his neck, you ran your fingertips over the shorn hair at the back of his head absently, biting your lip as you asked, “Are you sure about this?”
He fixed you with a reassuring gaze, promising, “Things are going to change for us after today, love. It’s all going to be different.”
You nodded, placing complete faith in him when he set his mind to something. However, you still worried for him and his brothers. “Please be careful, Tommy,” you begged, placing a tender kiss to his lips.
“Don’t worry about me. The most important thing is to look after yourself and Nora. Remember what I told you about staying inside. You’ll have men at the door-“ he said, repeating the information he’d told you the night before.
He hadn’t allowed Esme to take Nora to the park since that unsettling revelation you were being watched and he didn’t let you go anywhere unaccompanied nowadays. Your safety was his greatest concern. He knew his part of the deal with Campbell had been fulfilled, but there was something about the crooked policeman that didn’t sit well with him.
You placed a finger to his lips as you smiled. “We’ll be fine. I love you, Thomas Shelby. You keep us safe.” His heart swelled with pride as he caressed your cheek with his thumb.
“I’ll be back in time to put Nora to bed,” he said, turning to watch his little girl. He broke away from you to kneel down to her on the rug, kissing her curls as he patted her little head. “I love you,” he whispered into her ear. She turned from her game of make believe to hand him her teddy bear and place a kiss to his cheek. Tommy could only stare at the brilliant blue of her eyes so much like his own, yet holding an expression of love and warmth she’d clearly learned from you. The look of unconditional love for him took him aback.
He cleared his throat of the lump that had formed, handing her teddy back to her gently and standing to leave, he pulled his cap over his brow with a sharp tug. It was time to get on with the business of the day.
—————————————————————
Having tired her with games and songs after lunch, Nora collapsed onto the carpet without warning, overcome by the need for sleep. You chuckled to yourself as you remembered her last feisty words to you, “No nap, mumma!”  She could be just as stubborn as Tommy at times, but how angelic she looked as she slept. You put the dishes aside, wiping your hands on your apron as you moved to collect her, but a sharp whistle broke the peaceful silence.
Before you could make your way to the window, more of the same piercing noise could be heard up and down the lane. The sounds of horses and stomping boots became louder and you swore you felt horse hooves in your chest, beating at your rib cage as the pounding at your own door began. Despite the protection of the blinders posted at your door, you ran to Nora, sweeping her up into your arms as she whimpered at the interruption of her rest. You heard the men at the door being asked to stand aside for the police and you strained to listen for their reply. The men dutifully denying the residence was occupied, saying you’d moved weeks ago.
You bowed your head to Nora's pleading, “Shhh, my darling. Please don’t make a sound. Mummy needs you to be very quiet.” However, the feeling of your racing pulse against her and the nervous tone of your voice only served to frighten her. When another round of knocking began, she let out a long wail and you held your breath as you listened to the sounds of a scuffle on the other side of the threshold. As shots rang out, you ran and ducked behind the sofa, covering Nora with your body, praying the blinders had kept you safe.
A brief silence lulled you before your front door swung open slowly, the hinges creaking as boots thudded across the floorboards. A blinder would have called out to you, making his presence known. This was an intruder and your body shook with uncontrollable tremors, knowing you were without a weapon to defend yourself and your child. You kissed her forehead as she sobbed, listening to the terrible sound echo off the walls and feeling utterly exposed.
A policeman towered over you suddenly, observing you with a sour expression. “Just here,” he said, pointing out your position to someone you couldn’t see. “You can begin,” he ordered. Two more men marched in behind him, turning the house upside down with violent force, smashing dishes and overturning chairs.
You were hauled to your feet, still clutching Nora to your chest, as you asked, “What’s happening?”
No one answered you, but a fourth man joined the fray soon after. He was much older with graying whiskers and a bowler hat which he removed as though conducting civilized business as his men continued vandalizing your home. “Mrs. Shelby, are you aware of the criminal empire your husband is running right here in this city of hardworking, decent people?” he asked, softy at first, but his voice growing in anger and insistence. You stood motionless, tracking his movements with your eyes as he continued his tirade. You rubbed Nora's back to soothe her and she sucked her thumb against you, letting out hiccuped sobs.
“My name is Inspector Chester Campbell and it’s my job to see that men like Thomas Shelby don’t upset the rule of law. I’m sorry to say that he has and for that he will have to be punished,” he said with a stern look. You gulped, fearing the worst for your husband’s well being, but you stayed strong. Adjusting Nora on your hip, you stood tall, head held high.
“My husband has done nothing wrong,” you said, finding your voice in defense of Tommy. “He’s a respectable business man who only wishes for a peaceful city in which his business can thrive.”
Campbell laughed at the notion. “If that’s what you need to tell yourself to stay with a cutthroat mongrel gangster, but understand there will be consequences.” As the hateful vitriol spewed from his lips, his men approached with various items including guns, blades and opium. Campbell scowled at you, shaking his head as he scoffed loudly, “I wouldn’t call this respectable. In fact, Mrs. Shelby, in my professional opinion, I would say this home is clearly unfit for children.”
Your stomach dropped and you knees went weak as he motioned to one of his men uttering an emotionless order, “Take the child.” On instinct, you backed away from the man who came toward you, begging him, “No, please. She’s just a baby. You can’t take my child from me. This isn’t right!” The more you talked, the more desperate you became, kicking at his shins.
In a flurry of movement, you were restrained and Nora was ripped from your arms, screaming for you with deafening cries. “Mumma! Mumma!” she shrieked, face contorting in agony. You reached out for her, thrashing against the men who held you, cursing at them and finally spitting at one in an attempt to break free. In a fit of anger, one of them grabbed your throat, slamming you against the opposite wall. The back of your skull connected with a sickening thud, vision going fuzzy as you watched Nora being carried away and you willed yourself to stay awake.
Campbell’s dark form came back into your line of sight and he dismissed the policeman holding you, watching you tilt forward and heave for breath with an unsettling hunger in his gaze. You bit back tears to prove he had not broken you, trying to hold your composure as best you could. Nora was just beyond the door and though he stood between you, you still held out hope you could get to her.
Bringing your attention back to him, the inspector cruelly taunted, “Not going to cry?”
“You’ll be the one crying when Tommy finds out what you’ve done, you pathetic old man,” you spat at him.
He slapped you across the face hard enough to turn your head, his ring splitting your lip open in the process. Distracted by the taste of blood in your mouth, you inhaled sharply at the sudden, rough drag of his stubble against your cheek as he hissed in your ear, “And you’re nothing but a gypsy fenian slut.”
He grabbed your chin to force you to look at him as he ran a hand up your skirt. He noticed the tears welling in your eyes, giving you a sickening smile. “I have to admit, I do have a great curiosity though. Like a magpie who sees something shining in the mud,” he said, moving his hand up your thigh toward your apex. “He has no need for the silver, but he takes it anyway.”
“Why are you doing this?” you asked as the first tear slipped down your cheek. Campbell caught it, wiping it away with the pad of his thumb.
He shook his head as he replied with condescension dripping from his voice, “I’m not the one responsible for this unfortunate chain of events. No, my dear. It would be best to remember that your husband did this to you.”
—————————————————-
John and Arthur badly wanted a drink after the long day at Tommy’s side, but they had promised to look in on Y/n on their way to the Garrison as Tommy took the important papers and earnings to the safe. Trudging along Watery Lane, they indulged in a quick drink, swigging from Arthur’s hip flask as they recounted the day’s events, laughing and boasting to one another. However, they both stopped short when they came to Tommy’s house, a peculiar sight catching their eye. A pair of boots stuck out at an odd angle from the alley and as Arthur went to investigate, John heard him mutter, “No, no, no…” John rounded the corner to find a blinder dead of a gunshot wound, one of the same men tasked with protecting Y/n and Nora.
John’s feet fell fast along the cobblestones as he rushed to push open the front door of the house. Once inside, he found it shrouded in darkness. He lit the lamp on the kitchen table as he called out for you and Nora, but received no response. Arthur quickly followed and ran his hands through his hair in distress as he took note of the wrecked house, John still searching for any sign of you. Then as he came to the foot of the stairs, he heard an unsettling sound, quiet whining like the sound of a wounded animal. He gulped as he turned to find you, huddled in the corner clutching a knife.
“Y/n, oh, my God,” John said, kneeling to where you sat, staring ahead of you. He raised the lamp to your face and was horrified to find you beaten and bleeding, the state of you worse as he lowered the light. He took in the sight of your torn dress and stockings, covering his mouth with his hand to hide his reaction. Then he quickly got hold of himself reassuring you, “You’re going to be alright. Tommy’s on his way,” but you didn’t seem to hear any of it. He wrenched the knife from your hands, as Arthur came to stand over you both.
Although he was afraid of the answer, Arthur asked, “Where’s Nora, love?” At the mention of your daughter’s name, you came back to reality for a moment, breathing sharp ragged breaths to push the words out, “Gone…she’s gone. They took her,” you said as you began to shake.
John removed his jacket and placed it around you carefully. “Can you tell us who it was?” he prodded gently.
Before you could answer, Tommy was storming through the open door, looking about wildly at the destruction of his home and possessions. Arthur held him back suggesting, “Tommy, it’s bad. We should get Pol.” Then Tommy heard John talking to someone and his head snapped toward the sound. You were here and alive!
Tommy shoved his brother aside without thought, needing to be with you and Nora. However, he was immediately confused. Someone was crying, but it wasn’t his daughter's tiny whimpers. Had she gone to sleep, he wondered? He was supposed to put her to bed tonight, he remembered suddenly and a tidal wave of dread washed over him. He followed the dim light slowly then, crossing the floor as though weights had been tied to his feet. He realized he didn’t want to know the truth.
And then he was upon you, the light not strong enough to illuminate all of you at once and yet, allowing him to see far more than he could bear. With your arms wrapped tightly across your body you whispered, “Campbell,” into the silent room.
“What did she say?” Tommy asked, throat suddenly too dry to swallow.
John looked up at his brother with hesitancy, then explained, “I asked who did this to her. Who took Nora.” That’s when Tommy’s heart caved in.
——————————————————-
Tommy placed the heels of his hands to his eye sockets, attempting to ease the exhaustion he felt behind his eyes. In the two months since the attack, he couldn’t remember the last time he had slept. When he wasn’t working to find Nora, he was watching over you, trying to get you to eat or sleep. It wasn’t easy because you’d withdrawn into yourself, sick with grief and the lingering effects of your trauma. Your wounds had healed, but now headaches and nausea incapacitated you. You no longer ventured outside the house and Polly was doing most of the shopping. She also took it upon herself to look in on you both again in the evenings for added measure.
“Pol, she can’t go on like this,” Tommy said one night after begging you to rest.
Polly pulled a cigarette from her pocket and lit it, turning away from him.
“Polly, I said Y/n is sick. Something has to be done or I’m going to lose my wife,” Tommy said with greater insistence as he made a desperate plea to the one person he thought might be able to help.
Tapping her fingers against the table for a moment, Polly thought about whether she could betray your confidence. As she stole a glance at her nephew, she braced herself for a difficult conversation. Taking his hand in hers, she confided, “She’s pregnant, Tommy.”

Kate x Lucy
when I started shipping it if I did: pilot episode kiss, ngl, where it establishes that they must already be on-and-off hooking up in between sniping at each other about classified information. Lucy just shows up at her apartment!
my thoughts: when I watched this show I was genuinely bewildered by how this CBS procedural NCIS spin-off....just has a whole-ass lesbian romcom happening in its first season? The S1 finale literally ends on them getting together via a grand gesture with the rest of the team cheering.
anyway, they're so fun! they hit a lot of dynamics I like - Lucy loves loudly and openly while Whistler is brittle and contained, they have tension with a history, the height difference is cute, and man, maybe for a different ship all the drama in 1B would've been too much, but for these two I loved it, and not just because Whistler made the best kicked puppy faces while pining hopelessly
my random headcanons on when they each realize they're gay is that Lucy realizes in middle school and Whistler realizes in college, not too long before Noah's death. Don't think anything in canon contradicts that
What makes me happy about them: they're so ridiculously fond of each other. The consistent hearteyes they aim at each other while engaging in tropey shenanigans and still being individually competent agents makes me very happy. When it comes to the relationship angst, I like that for them it's never closeted/sexuality angst but their very different personalities, the usual fwb-to-lovers difficulties, Whistler's big mistake, and working together. They've been no less delightful as an established relationship in S2 and S3 - I love how much the show loves them, they literally got a ficcy-as-hell undercover-as-couple subplot last episode with all the usual gimmicks
Oh, I also did not anticipate how much physical fighting this procedural would have, and as someone who always wants my faves to get wrecked, I have been very well-served. Lucy almost dying while undercover right after Kate crushes her heart! Whistler getting injured while they're broken up and Lucy yelling at her for it! Such good food. (Show, you can keep beating up Whistler every season, I will never complain.)
What makes me sad about them: Their families, and the resulting loneliness. Lucy talks about her sister and brothers like a youngest kid who used to be close to them but isn't any more, last ep she commented that she knew from a very young age that her parents would never throw her a big wedding like her brothers', the way she gets set off by "financially responsible" as a rationale + her family's money has implications there. Kate's confession of how she shut herself off from the world after Noah's death.
But I like that they know about these things for each other (the way Whistler goes "Right. Right." at Lucy's comment tells us they've talked about this before), and the way they're navigating around and disarming each other's landmines here
things done in fanfic that annoys me: I understand that this is the danger of stepping back into another blonde/brunette live-action f/f ship but I cannot deal with those epithets. Or "taller woman"/"shorter woman" either, all of it always makes the PoV character sound like she has a complex about hair or height. It is okay to use the characters' names, I promise.
things I look for in fanfic: .....I've become such a hipster about characterizations for these two. Lucy is the one who broods and contemplates her feelings, Kate is the one who acts without thinking and gets surprised by her own reactions. Whistler is the one with better work-life balance and hobbies, who moved from DC to Hawai'i and stayed there despite the former being way better for a fed career, who goes surfing every Saturday morning without bothering to be contactable by work, and Lucy is the one who describes her life as consisting solely of "work, gym, and [Whistler]" and sometimes does paperwork on the weekends.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Gosh, I really have no other Lucy ships. For Whistler, I could 100% ship Whistler/Tennant if it was like, after the kids are grown. Why do they stand so close to each other in that 1x14 coffee conversation and say each other's full titles, or have Whistler demonstrate career-threatening levels of loyalty to Tennant, if not to make me contemplate this ship? I hope Sam Hanna's presence doesn't mean we don't get any Tennant-Whistler stuff this season.
My happily ever after for them: Just keep on being badass agents together and stay in Hawaii long-term. Don't really see them having kids, but I can totally see Lucy convincing Whistler of having a cat. ...Maybe get a shorter bed, does Lucy really have to climb that high every night XD.
who is the big spoon/little spoon: lmao I was going to make a comment about Lucy jetpacking because of course she does, but the bed comment reminded me that that they have 10 billion pillows on their bed. One weekend morning Lucy is going to sleepily think she's spooning Kate and find out she's actually hugging those pillows, having been abandoned for the Dreaded Ocean.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: does sparring really count as non-sexual for them it might really be meals at home? They both cook, they enjoy a quiet night in after their truly hectic cases, and they can put on GBBO or one of Whistler's preferred history documentaries afterwards.

S1 ch8
To this day one of my fave chapter titles and one of my fave chapters overall, I was so excited to write a whole chapter from the boys’ POV and I tried very hard to really get across their personalities and how they each think of their squad, I remember I spent like a week planning the chapter and then another week writing and editing just to make it perfect, and I’m still very proud of this chapter.
First: Sky being so proud of his team and of himself for getting jobs not due to his royal status but due to their hard work.
First mention of Shirley, though no name drop. And, in case yall didn’t know in this chapter Riven makes mention of Cloud Tower inscriptions -“Have you started preparing the papers and the essay?” Another pause, “I know it’s still a long time for the due date but it’s best to start preparing now.” Another longer pause and Riven sighed heavily, “Just listen to me for once please. Start checking everything. - cause originally Shirley was older and was gonna start Cloud Tower in s2 instead of s3 but then I made a very soft reboot of her age (cause I realized I wanted her to be close in age to Roxy so she could be part of that squad) so that’s a little fun fact right there.
THE BOYS DON’T EVEN REALLY KNOW EACH OTHER YET, THEY’RE JUST STARTING TO LEARN ABOUT THE OTHER AAAAHHHHH
This makes me very emotional, again, them just starting their friendship, what do you mean I once wrote them before they were bonded for life and brothers?
Tiny Brandon POV, mostly to show that his main trait is being a protector cause it’s Brandon duh.
Riven taking charge of the situation! Being instinctually protective and trying to distract the everyone so they won’t be scared.
Idk why I wrote Flora a lot more… she’s bowing and shit? I think that was gonna be a Healer thing from Lynphea but then I forgot and never brought it up again
Tecna being exhausted from keeping the Owl from sinking for a minute… ugggh they really had a power crawl didn’t they?
Damn, the days when the girls were inexperienced and the boys were justified in trying to keep them away from the action… so much has changed
Timmy’s POV, trying to fix the walkie talkie and everytime he gets a clear voice someone just snatches it away ajajajajajajjjajaa
All of them panicking and fighting, they’re still learning how to be a team! -Soon all four of them were yelling, all sense of compatriot ship forgotten in the face of panic.-
“The plants were scared?” Riven’s tone became dismissive, which earned him a few angry glances from the other girls when Flora shrank into herself.
“Hey, she just kinda saved your asses so watch the tone.” Musa was quick to retort, stepping in front of Flora.
“It’s fine Musa-”
“No it’s not. Now, are you gonna keep being idiots and insist that you don’t need anyone, or are you going to let us help you so we can find the troll and get this over with?” Musa didn’t wait for an answer, whipping around and taking the lead, dragging Flora with her.
Musa’s ride-or-die ass showing itself for the first time. And Flora used to be so quick to back down it makes me want to cry!!!!
Tecna awkwardly hovering around Timmy, trying to help him fix the walkie but not knowing how to engage in conversation, the start of their dynamic, I’m dying.
And finally, a longer Brandon POV to show his connection with Stella and we see Stella’s first instinct is to take care of and protect the girls. I think this is when I finally started to figure out how I wanted to write Stella.
————
It might seem weird to see me essentially fangirling over my own fic but I don’t even care I’m proud of my baby and it’s been AGES since I even read s1, I have like 3 scenes i’ve gone back to to check details but aside from that, this is like reading it for the first time to me

reminder that karen wheeler told mike wheeler, “all this, that’s been going on with will, i cant imagine what its been like for you. i just... i want you to know that you can talk to me. i never want you to feel like you have to hide anything from me (meanwhile el is hiding in the closet in mike’s room!!!!) i’m here for you, okay?"
reminder that mike wheeler has a ‘one-way’ sign pointing towards his closet in his room!!!
reminder that mike wheeler has a binder full of will’s drawings that he looks at for comfort and absolutely adores it when will gifts him paintings
reminder that mike wheeler has will’s art hung around in both his bedroom and basement (meanwhile el’s room is a mike shrine, mike barely has anything that represents el in his room)
reminder that mike wheeler is ‘the only one who’s acting normal here, the only who cares about will’ (his words, not mine)
reminder that mike wheeler stayed awake at the hospital, all nervous and his feet jumping up and down, because he wants to be the first to get to see will and make sure will is alright. when he saw will, he ran towards his bed and hugged him, putting his head softly over will’s chest
reminder that mike wheeler got completely furious that he pushed a bully to the ground in front of everyone at school because he couldn’t handle will being called homophobic slurs
reminder that mike wheeler held will’s hand when will needed him the most and reassured will that the shadow monster can’t get to him, that ‘we’ won’t let it get to him (this was in the same episode where the following convo between dustin and lucas took place; dustin: “i saw you [and max] were holding hands on the bus” lucas: “she was just scared. it wasn’t like that” dustin: “but i could feel it” lucas: “feel what?” dustin: “the electricity”)
reminder that mike wheeler told will on halloween night that if they’re both going crazy, they’ll go crazy together
reminder that mike wheeler stayed at will’s house for days and slept beside his bed, just to make sure he’s with will in case something bad happens
reminder that mike wheeler’s catchphrase for will is “are you okay? are you hurt?”
reminder that mike wheeler said while vulnerably crying that the best thing he’s ever done in his life was asking will to be his friend at the pure age of 5
reminder that mike wheeler biked all the way to will’s house in the pouring rain to apologize to him (in the same episode as this, max told el “dont worry, he’ll come crawling back for you in no time” which mike in fact did not for el, and instead did for will)
reminder that mike wheeler always keeps looking at will’s lips, because my dude what is the deal with that
reminder that mike wheeler stayed lingering in front of the byers’ old house, when everyone have already biked away at the end of s3, while the hopper narrates “i don’t want things to change”
reminder that mike wheeler went home to hug his mom after will has moved away, because he felt like he had lost will in a way. that scene parallels to the only other time he has hugged his mom which was in s1 when he thought he lost will for the first time
reminder that mike wheeler wasn’t able to be physically affectionate with will (the airport scene), when others were around (uh-oh, comp-het is typing)
reminder that in season 3 the sauna episode, mike wheeler yelled “boys only!” and then the camera pans onto the sign that reads “MEN”
reminder that mike wheeler said “we’re friends. we’re friends!” a liiiittle bit too defensively, like who are you trying to convince fruit boy (this was his response to will asking him, “what about us?” will meant us, as in their friendship, but mike probably thought the question had romantic implications)
reminder that once mike wheeler is alone with will and el is away, he is just himself (that scene in jonathan’s bedroom)
reminder that mike wheeler feels like he lost will because he was ‘focusing too much on el’ and that hawkins, the only place he has ever known of, is not the same without will
reminder that mike wheeler nodded in agreement when will said “[…] to say how you really feel, because… what if, what if they don’t like the truth?”
reminder that mike wheeler looks at his best friend this way:
Tumblr media
reminder to mike wheeler that i know what you are

Hermit Horror Week Day 5: s1/2 - Echoes
Probably the last piece I do for @hermithorrorweek, since a couple other ideas I had I couldn't quite make work the way I wanted them to. But I had an idea for this prompt and ran with it. It's perhaps more unsettling than anything, but it is what it is. I'm still very normal about Empires!False don't mind me. >_>
-
I didn't ask for this I didn't ask for this To be watched by someone To be watched by someone Who wishes me dead who wishes me dead I've learned to be cautious of strangers I've learned to be cautious of you Because I'll only be rejected You'll only be rejected She's watching me again She's watching me again Judging me as I judge her Judging me as I judge her She's dangerous She's dangerous She's allowed to kill and I'm not? I'm not letting her kill anyone else I can feel her around I can feel her around Like she's come through the Rift all over again Like before I sent her through the Rift She's destroyed me as a person She's destroyed me as a person I wish I never had a sister I wish I never had a sister After all she did to me After all she did to me I'm the monster, am I? She's the monster, not me I just wish I could remember I wish she wouldn't remember It's all prison bars and flames She broke out and burnt it all down But I didn't imprison myself, did I? I was just trying to keep everyone safe I keep reading the books she left behind I keep seeing the builds she left behind Wondering who I really am Wondering how she got like this A monster gave birth to a monster She was happy when she was building! And I'm the one shut off, confined, rejected She needed to be confined for her own good She didn't even say goodbye I wasn't going to say goodbye She abandoned me and now the Rift's closed I couldn't risk a confrontation, it had to be like this And I'm left here all alone, in a home that I didn't choose I had to leave her all alone, she was safer away from me I dream about it sometimes, awakening the Rift I dream about her coming back, and what she might do Let me go back and talk to her, that's all I want None of the Hermits would be safe. I wouldn't be safe And just ask her, why? I don't want her to know why I see that tower that I never built I wish I knew what she was up to Why she wanted to be close, but not like that I failed her, but I still cared, that's something, right? I rest my hand against the cold black Rift I check Grumbot's cave every now and then Sometimes I can feel her there, watching, waiting I wonder if she does the same, waiting by the Rift like me I talk to her, yell, scream, bang my fists against the glass I want to forget about her but I never can Maybe I can repair the Rift, maybe I can fix him Maybe I can break the Rift, make sure it never works again I'm smart like her, right? I can do that I'm smart enough to do that, right? Maybe I can get it working and leave this empty world I hope she never gets it working and leaves that place All the other Emperors left, so why can't I? All the Hermits left that place, never to return I'm sure it's not too difficult I'm sure it's way too difficult After all, what else can I do? She can build in peace and be happy What's left for me here anyway? There's nothing left for me there She took my memories I didn't want her to remember She still believes I'm the monster? She needed to forget she's a monster She'd kill me if she came back, I just know it She'd kill me if she came back, I just know it Maybe I'd deserve it for everything I've done Maybe I'd deserve it for everything I've done Perhaps I need to show her what a monster truly is Perhaps I need to show her what a monster truly is Hello? Can you hear me, dear sister?
"Hello? Is someone there?"

Up for a discussion question? If we’d gotten a full season three as intended, what would you have expected/liked to see from Beth and Rio?
Hey sweetie, I'm always up for a discussion question danke 🙇🏼‍♀️🥰❤️
I stand by what I said once re what i'd've liked to see from s3, particularly: the full s3 😭😭, whatever their vision for that was, so I could judge it on its own merits!! It remains a very romantic concept to me, bc while I certainly have my issues with other plots in s3 (terrible therapist, donor family, here's a hitman let's give him all our money woo, dean's salesman shenanigans & boring affair with gale etc) the angsty messy sexy brio scenes were soooo delicious 🥺🖤 and then while I understand s4 had a lot to reset from/deal with, s4 (b)rio frequently doesn't make all that much sense to me 🤷🏼‍♀️
but also! i finally started posting a fic which is kinda about that? (rio pov, post s3, eventually very long etc). so im gonna say a lil more (thus warning: minor fic spoilers) behind the cut...
....but this thing keeps moving where i put the readmore?!
how do u make a website this bad. um anyhow
pay-off to the boring dean/gale stuff!! helllooooo beth and dean both sleeping with their bosses?! hilarity goldmine no?!
MORE RHEA. like you can't just introduce a character beth's having a quasi-romance with & rio's presumably had an actual one with, who's seen them both at their softest and uncovered worstnesses, and is surely best placed to comment on say their similarities and then do nothing with it???
beth and rio yelling at each other. surely this was coming??
not ending on that next time empty the clip line (which i don't like) / wrapping up the hitman plot
given the (sudden!) arrival of nick in s4 and depressing rio backstory, i'd've loved some suggestion that rio was like consciously paralleling nick & beth's betrayals of him & considering them as similar and/or that his mentoring of beth had something to do with even the vaguest of plans to extricate himself from nick (plus Revenge) etc
like. acknowledgment and processing of trauma???
weird angsty sex
more brio bar scenes, more brio drinking, more brio laughing (at each other)
if not the furniture return, then at least it being more a topic of conversation...like how wasnt it? beth pitching ideas for earning the return (at least of her kids' stuff??) or rio holding it over her head or at least him going on abt how much he's enjoying her lamps or something!
death divorce. the show held this over our head for far too long. i also like this being decoupled from the brio stuff as much as plausible. beth needs to divorce dean not bc she's interested in rio but bc dean is the worst.
plenty of boland bubbles, that spot lasted abt 0.4 seconds after we sat through all that dean nonsense... we should have at least got rio testing out an empty hot tub cos he doesnt know theyre supposed to have water in or something.
inordinate amounts of brio bickering
ending of hitman/plot consciously paralleling s1 and 2 finales, even if it wasn't literally beth + rio + some man + a gun (ideally with some rationale as to how rio finds said hitman, whether or not that was a reveal of his magical powers)
Incentive Convo Callbacks (also rio vs sushi like a million more times, pls)
scars.

I have a lot of Thoughts about Sparrow Oak-Garcia-Swallows that have been rotating in my mind all season...
(under the cut, it got a little long oops)
Sparrow was my favorite kid in s1. he & Lark were v funny at the start, but the story got really interesting when their personalities diverged. Sparrow had to keep the peace between Lark & Henry. Sparrow had to reconcile that he and Lark were both changing as people, different worldviews while being inextricably tied to each other, always. Sparrow chose love.
he changes as an adult. obviously that makes sense, and I can see the logic to it at the start of the season. he wants to have a normal life, for himself and for his family. he makes compromises constantly. he marries a centrist, and says "It's fine" when she cheats on him. he loves Normal, but he's not proud of his son, in the same way that he's not proud of his own life. that's an engaging development for someone who used to be a happy kid.
but the direction that Anthony took with him as the show progressed... honestly disappointed me. in the few times that Sparrow is there, he is impatient with Normal, talks over him, acts as though he always knows better. Sparrow never genuinely listens to Normal in the way that Henry did with him. there's a point where he Yells at Normal, unhinged shouting that Anthony usually reserves for Willy. Normal adds onto it - "My family yells at each other, then apologizes after, as if that makes it okay."
so Sparrow turning into a love wolf in the finale... falls flat. only at the very end does Sparrow show real pride for Normal, and it took him saving the world through gratuitous violence.
the way that Will runs with it makes complete sense to me. "This is what it takes for you to be proud of me?" OBVIOUSLY that fucks with Normal's head, and stays with him into adulthood. there's no easy way to resolve the fact that Sparrow treated him poorly.
Will worked with what he was given, and I think he did a fantastic job. I just think that, for someone whose central theme in s1 was choosing love... Sparrow's actions in s2 felt out of place.

S1 The Bubbler: Deception
In this episode, there were 3 (arguably 4) deceptions centered around Adrien and his perception of what happened. I note this because characters deceiving Adrien through lies and omitted truths is a much-repeated phenomenon that dramatically affects the course of the Agreste Arc to the very end.
1) Chloe realizes she forgot Adrien’s birthday was today. She goes to him to say her gift must have been delayed by delivery people, then quickly leaves to order Sabrina to order Adrien a gift in her stead. However, due to Bubbler’s actions, the gift Sabrina ordered was delayed to another day. The purpose of her deception is to cover up that she forgot Adrien's birthday and to escape the negative consequences of forgetting (i.e. Adrien thinking worse of her). This is the one lie he might have actually discovered was a lie, but we never see this plot point resolved on-screen, since it's barely consequential.
2) Nathalie relabels Marinette’s birthday present to Adrien, telling Adrien that Gabriel got it for him. The purpose of deception, interestingly enough, isn’t to make Adrien not think poorly of Gabriel, but rather to cover Nathalie’s ass. This episode, we see Gabriel ask about the gift he (allegedly) ordered Nathalie to get for Adrien in his stead, but when she tells him he never ordered her to, he yells at her that he did, which she placatingly agrees with. This early Nathalie is very much a stock secretary afraid of being fired by her demanding boss. The fact that her deception is purely practical and impersonal, only about maintaining her job and not about manipulating Adrien, makes it, to me, one of the less offensive Adrien-based deceptions in the show.
3) Marinette discovers that Adrien thinks her gift to him is from his father, and she decides not to reveal the truth to him. The purpose of her deception is easily the most altruistic, not wanting to hurt Adrien with the reality that his father didn’t get him a nice birthday present (actually got him no gift at all). If this episode stood alone, I would think this is a pretty sweet moment. Unfortunately, this moment is only the beginning of characters (including Marinette) denying Adrien a complete and true understanding of his reality to control his physical and/or emotional reactions as they see fit, including “for his own good”. Marinette wanting Adrien to have a good relationship with Gabriel is great, but she doesn’t understand that Gabriel actually does suck, and Adrien deserves to know this so that he can appropriately deal with his circumstances. She didn’t improve their relationship, she just convinced Adrien to give Gabriel more leeway for Gabriel to exploit. Ultimately, this specific deception is not very offensive to me, but the fact that this facet of her character doesn’t develop beyond this point (in fact, it only gets worse, with greater and more offensive lies and omissions to come) is what offends me so much.
4?) Adrien asks Nathalie “My father get back to you about my birthday party?”, for her to reply “Well, uh, he doesn’t think it would be a good idea.”. So we know that Adrein asked Gabriel (likely through Nathalie) about having a birthday party some time in advance, but Gabriel only responded (again through Nathalie) on the day of, effectively at the last minute. While no deception is explicit, I think that Gabriel decided well in advance that Adrien wouldn't be allowed to have a birthday party and put off telling him, leaving Adrien to meekly wait for approval that was never coming until it was too late for Adrien to do anything about it, including keep pestering Gabriel or plan something behind Gabriel’s back. Hooking Adrien on the (false) possibility of getting what he wants to keep him docile and un-rebellious is such a Gabriel move that I can’t help but to consider the possibility.
