You know what I love, when fandoms have fics that are fully flushed-out storylines that are occasionally better than the source material. Like No Paths Are Bound, and The Rigel Black Chronicles, were godsends.

I firmly believe that every fandom should have a fic that the whole fandom knows that takes place in-universe.

Like if I see another person say that the ultimate Klance fic is Dirty Laundry I'm gonna flip my shit, like no 😭😭, I want something that's long, in-universe, the fan-favorites survive, the characters are flushed out, and it doesn't completely forget about the other characters.

Uff, this is a difficult one, because this fandom has created just so many good fics. Just the first ones that come to my mind:

The Magnets Pulling From Different Poles Series by Mazen has just the right mix of smut and exploring the insecurities and fears and trauma of the characters

infinite by midwesterosi is just so beautiful and poetic and tender, and yeah, its smut, but its also so much more

Query, Hypthesis, Experimentation by SirChinnigan gets both Hordak and Entraptas characters so right, and has their relationship progress in such a sensual and so them way

Lost Memories by fen_harels_wife is a version of season five that IMO feels more true to the characters than the real thing, deeply exploring Hordaks trauma, but also how Entrapta deals with everything

The Crown Demands but the Heart Desires by ResFlower King Catra must marry again after her wife Queen Adora goes missing to protect the kingdom from the Horde. Then She-ra shows up. This fic is super interesting and angsty but I highly recommend it. (Complete)

Ice and Fire by moioy Catra and Adora are the heirs of two rival clans and they're expected to marry. This fic is super fun to read! (Not complete yet)

A Sorta Fairytale by petty_labelle Prince Catra needs to marry so she decides to go into town. She meets activist Adora and is smitten immediately. This fic is hilarious, a bit cracky but it's great. (Complete)

For the Love of a Princess by StarryNap This is inspired by the Arthurian legend but with a happy ending! King Adora and princess Catra marry while they deal with a war and betrayal. It has a nonbinary Adora too. Please please read this fic, it's one of my faves. (Complete)

Her Princess by SimplyKorra Adora is taken prisoner by the Horde Kingdom, there she becomes Princess Catra's bodyguard/personal knight. Warning: Shadow Weaver is even creepier than usual. I love this fic! (Not complete yet)

Number 1, no contest, is Grayskull's Anatomy by ireallyshouldnt_behere!

It's a modern doctor AU that's been ridiculously enjoyable with good ups and downs in the drama department. Waiting for the catradora idiots to TALK since they're exes who are now banging and basically in a relationship again but doing that thing where they don't talk about it and me and Glimmer are sharing a near spiritual bond at the moment. :) It is an explicit fic so keep that in mind if you wanna give it a read, not a lot of sex in it but some in the more recent chapters.

In no particular order after that we've got:

Science Friction by RaptorRed

Another explicit fic that comes with about 30 times the amount of gender questioning, gender identity, and good heap of science scattered in as well. They really did a great job with mixing everything together in a really pleasing way where the pacing always feels just right to my little monkey brain.

Wildcat by Hubris_Plus

An excellent Catra is sent to Beast Island fic, but before the series even starts. Featuring her and Micah making it back to Brightmoon in time for the series, Force Captain Adora, mixed up emotions/feelings from the war, a lot of flashbacks to Beast Island for some great world building, and of course Micah & Catra relationship which I love. Let that man be a dad at anyone he wants to, he deserves it!

HA HA! You thought I wouldn't!??!?! Well I would!!!!!!!!!

Dear Glimmer is a highschool AU glitradora fake dating drama fest where each and every time I think they've figured it out they have not. They are, in fact, digging ever deeper in and making things much more complicated and I love it! Check it out if you enjoy wheezing in pain but also somehow laughing because, really? Really you three? Really??

Bad World by Zuberan

Bad World is where Adora finds the sword the first time she goes out for it, Shadow Weaver decides that she doesn't need Catra anymore, and then Catra joins the Rebellion. Except the joining the rebellion part is VERY difficult, everyone back home thinks Catra's dead, shit keeps hitting the fan, epic fights keep popping up in cool ways, the series is not re-written blow by blow, and also Entrapta keeps bugging her ex even though she's gone official with Catra and frankly it's one of my favorite dynamics in the whole thing lol.

She-Ra fics I consider canon

Hey gang! here's a list of (mostly post-canon) fics I've read over the years that are I feel are well written and in character enough that they could be canon to the show, and to an extent, each other! I put the list in order for anyone who wants to read it like a season 6 :D

Don't Go - extended version of scenes in S5E5 and S5E6. Written by ND Stevenson so is basically already canon. Angst and fluff

Daylight - picks up a day after the s5 finale. Catra & Adora begin to really understand that they're free to live a peaceful life. Tooth rotting fluff.

Pros & Cons (NSFW) - Bow and Glimmer seem joined to Adora at the hip 24/7, and Catra just wants to make out with her girlfriend. Has a couple lines that could be seen as contradictory or foreshadowing to Carry our Bodies. Mostly 3/4ths fluff, 1/4th smut.

Carry our Bodies Safe to Shore - Adora finds an old Horde incident report, and Catra has to tell Adora about the kiss that Shadow Weaver erased from her memory. Angst and fluff.

Keep on Walking, Come What Will - Adora & Catra accidentally get engaged. Pure fluff

Alternatively, Princess Prom 2.0 (One Year Later) - Adora & Catra get engaged on purpose. Pure fluff

^ honestly, I reconcile these two by head canon-ing that the "accidental engagement," happens at the impromptu princess prom and then they get too busy for a wedding and then the on purpose engagement happens at the real princess prom, because both are so well written and so in character.

Anachronism (and sequel) - Adora & Catra get traumatized again while rescuing Angella.

^ (Fic is pretty good, mostly on here because I haven't found any fit that does "rescuing Angella" better, lmk if you have any recs!). Angst and Fluff. I don't think there's any NSFW but it's a long fic and it's been a while since I read it.

New Blood by: JFalcon COMPLETE Very long multi-chapter fic that includes many other characters, but it has ShikaTema as the main relationship throughout and is very well written.
