Tuvok & Janeway both strike me as people who insist they aren't rich* but then they bring up a summer house or something in casual conversation *note: I'm aware that Star Trek humans live in a post-scarcity world with no money but still. I can't help but see the truth and the truth is that Janeway's fridge had an ice dispenser.

the Sarek family is hilarious to me because you have so much drama in one place. there have got to be at least 3 like, holo-documentaries or whatever about them. how could you not?
you have Sarek, the patriarch: one of the UFP's top diplomats, who knocks up a Vulcan princess then goes “hrm I am ambassador to Earth therefore I should marry a human” and he does, upsetting all sorts of the worst kinds of people on his home planet and causing racist hate groups to try to blow him and his family up multiple times, and seems honestly more put out by his son joining Starfleet than his other son becoming Vulcan Moriarty
Amanda, the matriarch: an accomplished educator and quite possibly the only well-adjusted member of the family, but when her son Spock shows up on her doorstep after growing a beard, having a mental breakdown and apparently murdering several medical staff she still shrugs and hides him in the family mausoleum
Sybok: Amanda's stepson from the aforementioned princess fling, who becomes an antiestablishment criminal mastermind with an edgelord fake name, hooks up with a hot space pirate, finds religion, starts a cult, takes an entire colonial government hostage sparking a diplomatic incident involving three galactic superpowers, and hijacks a Starfleet ship to the galactic core to find the Vulcan Garden of Eden, where he dies fighting god in hand-to-hand combat
Michael, a traumatized human girl Sarek brings home from a work trip, who joins Starfleet, becomes their first-ever mutineer, goes to prison, saves the Federation from a war most people think is her fault and gets “killed” in a highly classified, very suspicious incident involving an experimental starship and a series of red lights that appeared across the galaxy like a divine omen (oh, and returns 900 years later to solve the dilithium crisis, kill the head of the Emerald Chain and save two entire star systems including her siblings' homeworld)
and last but not least Sarek & Amanda's one-of-a-kind hybrid baby. Spock, who gets accepted into the Vulcan Science Academy, tells them to go fuck themselves when they're racist about it, runs off to Starfleet instead, gets so famous his arranged marriage falls apart resulting in him publicly strangling his own captain to death except not really, steals the Federation flagship twice, invents time travel, saves the entire planet Earth, dies and comes back to life, goes into his dad's line of work and achieves peace with the freaking Klingons as his opening act, then after a long successful career suddenly dips to go do extremely dangerous underground activism on one of the most paranoid authoritarian worlds in the galaxy to unify the Romulans & Vulcans who've hated each other for over a thousand years — and he isn't around to see it but it eventually works. then he fucks off with the VSA's high-speed prototype ship full of the most dangerous substance known to science and gets sucked into a black hole of his own creation, never to be seen again. and this is just the stuff that's public knowledge!
then you dig into the novels where Sarek's ancestor basically makes out with Zefram Cochrane 5 seconds after meeting him and Amanda tells the press her husband has a huge cock
I love them

"Vulcan!" review
Tumblr media
A novel by Kathleen Sky, from 1978. This one was bad, bad, BAD. I'd say it's the worst I've read so far, and I really hope it doesn't get any worse than this. The characters, in particular Spock and McCoy, are sometimes unrecognizable, the barebones plot barely makes any sense, and the (self-insert?) character is really unlikable. At least it's short, so through sheer masochism willpower, I got to read it in record time, to forget it as soon as possible.
Spoilers under the cut:
The Romulan border is shifting, since the magnetic fields that determine the Neutral Zone are being affected by ion storms. Soon, the system of the planet Arachnae will fall under Romulan territory. I mean, it will be rightfully Romulan, simply because of the shifting nature of borders as they're defined. Is Starfleet going to accept this, just as the Romulans would have to accept a natural expansion of the Federation, if it came to happen? Nah! Prime Directive be damned! They send the Enterprise to investigate if there's intelligent life in Arachnae that may be worth to keep in the Federation. (And if there is, then what? Do they start a war? On what basis? Whatever.)
In order to determine if the Arachnae inhabitants (some sort of giant ants) are intelligent or not, they need the help of Dr. Mary Sue Katalya Tremain. A biologist who is so, so brilliant, that Starfleet invented new medals just for her, and whose intelligence surpasses even Spock's. As soon as they learn she's coming aboard, Spock and McCoy start competing for her affection (yes, Spock too) by filling her cabin with gifts and flowers and whatnot. But when she beams aboard, it turns out that Dr. Tremain is actually an insufferable bigot who hates Vulcans, and can't even work with them. She's also a major crybaby that resorts to faking hysteria whenever she can't get her way. One has to wonder why Starfleet even allows such a person to be part of its ranks (well, maybe the fact that she's sleeping with a Commodore explains why). We don't see much of her legendary brilliance either, but we learn that she has big boobs. And yes, this book was written by a woman. Obnoxious as she is, she's still a Mary Sue. So everyone has to turn a blind eye to behaviors that would be otherwise unacceptable, and make sure the little princess is comfortable. After all, there must be some good reason for this woman's bigotry (there isn't, but whatever), since she's too wonderful to simply being an asshole. McCoy gets into full "I'm a lover, not a doctor" mode right after seeing her. And five minutes later, he's hitting hard on her, though he seems more of a lecherous creep, rather than a charming, southern gentleman. Ah, yes, he helps her unpack her things, which gives him a chance to paw the sexy lingerie inside the luggage (didn't you know? sexy lingerie is fundamental when going to explore a giant ant planet).
The first half of the book is just a really boring Freudian psychoanalysis of Tremain, only to determine again that, yes, she hates Vulcans, for some undisclosed reason. Meanwhile, McCoy can't decide whether he wants to be professional or horny. He switches back and forth more times than I cared to count. Two days later, he's fallen completely in love with this horrible person who mistreats one of his best friends. Anyway, Tremain friend-zones him soon, so he gets nothing but a little kiss on the forehead. Not that I felt bad about him; McCoy is an asshole in this book.
The second half of the novel gets a bit better, as Spock and Tremain beam down to the planet to meet the Arachneans. McCoy misses the beam down because he was busy chasing after some alien cat in the veterinary section. Yes, the horniness made him stupid or something. So when the giant ants attack the landing party, a lot of people die, and they don't even have a doctor. Kirk can't beam them up because Romulans have appeared to claim the planet, and he can't lower the shields. And that's what Kirk does for the rest of the novel: absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, Tremain and Spock have to work together in order to survive, so she's marginally more professional now. It's Spock's turn to be stupid, though, as he starts to make lewd comments about her, and spying her while she undresses. The reason being!? I don't know, something about proving she hates Vulcans (yeah, I knew that already).
In the end, Spock is attacked by the poisonous ants. And he mind-melds with one, to discover they're not, in fact, intelligent, so it's okay to leave the planet to the Romulans. The mind-meld, however, leaves him insane, and believing he's one of the ants. To restore his sanity, Tremain has to mind-meld with Spock, which is probably the best scene in the book. Then, while exploring her subconscious, it's finally revealed why she hates Vulcans so much. The reason is... she felt an unrequited love for her former Vulcan captain (gasp! I wasn't expecting something like that, no, not at all). Kirk finally decides to do something, and lowers the shields to beam them up, before Spock dies of poisoning, Romulans or not withstanding. He could have done so hours ago, though, before so many people died. Sigh...
Spirk Meter: 2/10*. Kirk stands firmly on Spock's side against Tremain's bigotry, and he's the only one who doesn't tolerate any of her bullshit, just like Chapel (you know, the two persons who love Spock the most). There's also a line about McCoy liking Spock, but not in the same way that Kirk likes him. Though, on the other hand, Kirk's very stubborn about following Starfleet's orders, even if it costs Spock his life, so I don't know... Characterization is hardly coherent.
There may be some Spones too. Tremain says that she can't really love McCoy, because she doesn't feel for him all the things that McCoy feels for Spock, which in her opinion, is love (she's quick to clarify it's not the same kind of love, but still...). McCoy also becomes quite hysterical when Spock's dying on the planet, while Kirk keeps calm. Apart from this, Tremain (who hates Vulcans because of an unrequited crush on one) functions as some sort of placeholder for McCoy himself. It's insisted upon how alike they are, and how they share the same hobbies. Spock calls her "Doctor" all the time, and his banter with her reminds a lot to that with McCoy. In fact, when Spock is being a perv towards Tremain to anger her, he compares his enjoyment of it to the one he gets from riling McCoy. It's rather telling how the author is taking everything from Spock and McCoy's dynamic, while using a woman substitute as a no-homo screen.
*A 10 in this scale is the most obvious spirk moments in TOS. Think of the back massage, "You make me believe in miracles", or "Amok Time" for example.

Also have to thank The Marvels for giving me the perfect Spocklaan AU / Subspace Rhapsody sequel idea with the Enterprise visiting musical planet Aladna where communication is only possible with songs. So the crew has to sing again and La'an ends up accidentally betrothed to the prince of Aladna after she saved him and has to wear a Princess Thalia like dress. The crew tries to figure out how to end the engagement without breaking diplomacy and Spock storms the wedding dressed in his fancy Vulcan robes, looking like a damn Disney prince, pretending to be jealous and declaring his undying love for La'an in a power ballad, maybe even challenging the prince in a duel with lirpas, which makes the prince end the engagement.

Here are some random Satenik sex headcanons (or canons, since she's an oc)
Satenik thought people's sex drives automatically disappear after they have a kid. Like the body has a biological "okay we procreated - shut it down" system and then you don't have to do it again.
But since some people have multiple kids, she also believes that people's sex drives come in cycles. She got this idea from the 1967 Star Trek episode, Amok Time, where she saw how Vulcan mating cycles were explained and she thought "yeah that makes sense."
She always thought people were kidding/exaggerating when they put a ton of importance on sex. She thought a lot of sex/erotica in art was a metaphor for something more profound (to her).
She does not enjoy kissing. She likes the idea, but she always imagined it as something ethereal or symbolic. But when she had her first kiss, she realized "oh, right. Human mouths are slimy and full of spit and teeth and we're mashing them together." Actually kissing ruined kiss scenes in movies for her, because now all she's thinking about is the saliva and tongues.
She doesn't really know where her strict religious upbringing ends and her natural aversion to sex begins. At the very least she doesn't feel shame about her own sexual history (i.e. having sex out of wedlock and getting pregnant).
She might be a tiiiny bit on the demi or gray-ace spectrum, but everything has to be perfect for her not to be in an "ughhhh, fine." mindset.
Pillow princess. She's tired.
She has a leather pride flag because she thought it was pretty and Magnus is wondering if he should say something.

Flufftober 13 - Vulcan Michael
Vulcan Michael Langdon x reader
Tumblr media
For Michael, Halloween was totally illogical.
But most of the things humans did were totally illogical, so he shouldn't be surprised by this weird party where people pretended to be someone else, sometimes other species than their own, or even worse, beings which did not exist.
For several days, Y/N had tried to explain to him why it was important, a kind of custom, that you shouldn't look for logic in customs, just see that it was a good time, to share, to relax, during which people could have fun and forget their worries for a night.
"Yes, okay, the way of having fun is not logical, and it's also ridiculous to ignore your problems instead of trying to solve them but... But that's it !"
"But that's it ?" he repeated, raising an eyebrow.
           "Yes, that's it !"
           "Very well, t'nash-veh ashaya."
"... So you agree to dress up and come go candy hunting with me ?" she asked with a small pout, knowing that he was illogically having a hard time resisting her when she was doing that face.
"I don't see why I would refuse, as long as the costume is not offensive."
"          I had thought of an elf."
           "... That's a bit offensive."
"A vampire then. And I'll be a young princess, under your spell and totally at your mercy."
           "Illogical."
           "But that's it !"
"Yes ashal-veh." he sighed, trying not to smile, even though smiling wasn't as illogical as the Vulcans thought. It showed that we were happy.
It was just better to be happy inside, in a controlled way.
It was therefore filled with discreet joy that Michael accompanied Y/N in the streets to collect sweets. Of course, he didn't dare hold her hand in public, it was highly inappropriate.
And he repeated to her that sweets and other delicacies were not good for her health.
He also noticed that there weren't many disguised adults knocking on doors.
"Michael." Y/N said kindly looking at him with wide eyes. "You know very well what I'm going to answer you."
"Hmm. That's this is what this celebration is about, so you won't be logical, you will do whatever you want with regards to holding my hand, eating, and going out in costume, and that's it."
           "Exactly."
"Just promise me not to eat everything too quickly, I don't want you to get sick."
Despite his grunts of protest and the fact that several people were watching them, Y/N kissed him on the cheek, saying that he was cute, and promising to be reasonable.
It didn't really convince him, because he knew that his human and he didn't have the same definition of what was reasonable.
So he wasn't really surprised to find her on the sofa, still wearing her big dress, her face covered in sugar and chocolate. Using her little pout, she tried to avoid his criticism.
"Whether I eat them now or later, it's almost the same."
"The nuance is in the 'almost', ashal-veh. You promised me."
"I only ate five ! Well... Maybe seven. Or more. But there's still plenty left. You can take some if you want. You chased them too, you deserve them. Oh Michael, come on, try one !"
           "No, it is not..."
"Michaaaaael ! For me, please !" she begged, holding up a candy to him, waiting for him to eat it straight away.
It was illogical, but he couldn't refuse it. He could never deny her anything.
And he didn't realize at all that he was eating chocolate, sitting next to her, letting her feed him again and again.
Since Michael had never told her about the effect of chocolate on Vulcans, he couldn't blame Y/N. She hadn't really forced him to eat it either.
He was the only responsible for this situation, which his mate did not understand right away.
It was a real surprise for her to see him smiling and laughing like it was perfectly normal, moving oddly.
"Your cheeks are all green. Are you sick ? Oh, I hope you're not allergic to something ! I can call a doctor, I..."
"It's all right, ashal-veh." he chuckled, taking her in his arms. "I'm fine. I've never felt so good. My love. My life. I'd like to take you far away, to a cave, where no one can take you. I'll build you a house and we'll have plenty of children."
           "... What ?"
"I don't like it when other people touch you. Or when they look at you. You're mine. You're mine, aren't you ?"
"Yes Michael, I'm yours. But you're not in your normal state, you... Are you purring ? And you...  Are you biting my neck ? Michael ?!"
"You smell so good, t'nash-veh ashaya. T'nash-veh ashal-veh. T'nash-veh ta'hal. Nash-veh ashaya du, weht do kanok-vei. Worla trasha nash-veh, sanoi . Wuh panu tor gu'gelik heh herbosh rik' du."
Vulcans having a denser mass than humans, it was not easy for Y/N to drag Michael to the bedroom. He didn't really help her, before falling asleep in the middle of the bed.
The next morning, his head hurt terribly. With great difficulty, he prepared tea and meditated for several hours, until Y/N woke up.
Despite his meditation, he behaved slightly illogically by "sulking", refusing to talk about what had happened and decreeing that they would never again participate in Halloween, which was a holiday as dangerous as it was illogical.
He later tried to banish several other holidays where chocolate was present, such as Christmas when Y/N served him hot chocolate, or Valentine's Day, before accepting that he could not escape this toxic product, and that anyway, Y/N found him so adorable when he was drunk that he could eat some from time to time to please her.
But only if there were no other witnesses to see it.

Begging you for fated mates romances. The immortals after dark drought is killing me
Lol it's ruuuuffff. I'm excited for Rok's novella in March because he's just so fun, but I reeeeally hope she gets Kosmina's book out on schedule this year. (Lothaire literally just losing her remains one of the funniest things in the series to me. And her being this adorable angel princess and his inner monologue going "That's nice. I'm still sending your ass to Louisiana" simply because she's the Sandy to his Rizzo I guess??)
I genuinely want Kosmina's book, for one thing. For another, I NEED. KRISTOFF. AND FURIE'S. BOOK. And a book for Heath MacRieve: Werepire At Large, plsthx. You can't deploy a werepire without giving him someone to FUCK. You can't give me the brother of noted fuck machines Lachlain and Garreth MacRieve without giving me the ACTION.
Anyway, try:
Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. These are obviously like. As RIDIC as you've heard. They are also. DELIGHTFUL! Just broads landing on planet Blue Big Dick (CW: there are bad aliens in the first book and they do rape women largely offpage) and putting these weird little worms in their chests to live and the warms going "la la la" and then the big blue alien men having worms that go "tra la la" and when your worms sing to each other you gotta FUCK and be together forever like it or not??? He'll die for you and your worm???? Listen, I read like 6 in a row last year and then I had to stop and pretty soon I'm gonna read some fucking more.
Favorites include: Barbarian Alien (#2, heroine is all "Jesus Christ I hate this alien guy" and he's all "OMG IT'S HER" and kidnaps her away to his cave, as you do, which is controversial because he's from a noted line of kidnappers and the other aliens are all D: about it but then she teaches him how to fuck, should mention that most of these aliens are hardcore virgins), Barbarian Mine (#4, everyone who reads this is gonna think differently of me because the hero is like Ice Planet Tarzan because he grew up in the wastelands all alone and his dad died when he was young so he didn't even really learn how to talk like an alien, and he doesn't even VAGUELY know what sex is, and she has to.... teach him things........... the heart wants what it wants okay) and Barbarian's Mate (#6, the one where the heroine had an IUD the whole time so her chest worm wasn't working and then her IUD falls out and her chest worm is all "LA LA LA" at the most annoying, dickish alien's chest worm and they're both like "OH FUCK NO" but then they go on adventure together, and it's soooo good)
The Winter King by C.L. Wilson--Fun fact, the arranged marriage fantasy romance I keep recommending is actually a fated mates book! The hero isn't just Elsa But Hot Man, he's also descended from wolves, so he can SCENT her, and when he scents her for the first time it's actually quite aggressive and his friend is present and goes "buddy, please stop touching her nipple this seems like a crime". It's the mating bond!!!
The Sea King by C.L. Wilson--Next book in the series, goes fated mates even harder because the hero is a merman Aquaman type from a matriarchal kingdom who was trained in the seductive arts and meets the heroine and KNOWS lol. And he's determined to wife her up. CW: sexual assault, not from the hero.
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh--I've only read the first two books in this series, but they're good, and they're all following the fated mate format. This one is about a heroine who's from like this Vulcan sort of psychic mind freak society, and her fated mate turns out to be a verrrrrry earthy shapeshifter guy who's like "welp. Sadly it's her".
Laura Thalassa's Four Horsemen series has a very fated mate vibe. It's not explicitly stated, but all of the four horsemen basically get thrown off once they meet Her and then their entire game is ruined lmao. The series has some things.... I find.... Less than great. But I remember really enjoying Pestilence and Death, War and Famine are foggier to me.
The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson is omegaverse but make it a contemporary romcom. Full fated mates shit. He makes her call him alpha while he's plowing her in the woods. They live in a better society.

40k and D&D crossover Lion El'Jonson
Let's start off in order with Lion El'Jonson Will probably be just as disjointed and chaotic as the initial post
After splitting off from his brothers became a wandering mercenary/sell sword as he did not find exactly a place to call his own
Has a fey horse with 6 legs that can carry his weight
Magnus gave his brother rings to hide their true size but they are all still 7ft to 8ft tall (this is a plot point I'm going back and forth on as a bunch of 9ft tall men wouldn't be super out of place but I also know like Vulcan and Magnus are some of the taller ones) ((Feedback on this would be great))
Eventually the man ends up looking like his current 40k self (I really like the facial hair)
He is still secretive and only slightly less taciturn
After meeting his wife he is slightly less secretive and taciturn with his brothers and really only opens up to her.
He ends up working for a right bastard of a man but the pay is good and his reputation continues to grow and well no one else can seem to pay him off to switch sides.
This is where he eventually meets his wife. Gloria (Her name is up for debate as Gloria will either be her name or Konrad's wife's name.)
Gloria is a handmaiden of the lord, but her position was less than desirable as she was a bedwarmer for the lord. But she likes to call herself a hand maiden to have some dignity.
She was directed to help Ser Lion/Ser Jonson with anything that he needed which the noble figured would be "companionship"
Lion enjoyed Gloria's company as the way she dressed and spoke reminded him of Caliban maidens.
She eventually came clean with what she was after she felt like Ser Lion should not embarrass himself by calling a glorified whore "little dove"
"Lady Gloria I care little of what you are for others but to me you are my 'little dove' ." The words rumbled out of his chest smoothly. "Do not try to impress me with your acts of chivalry Ser Lion. I need not your pity!" Gloria snaps back, hot tears in her eyes. "Little Dove," He rumbled as he leaned down to be eye level with her, "I would not be talking this much if I felt only pity or just pure lust."
Has played enough political games to figure out who is given as a reward and who isn't; Of course he still felt insulted that this poor woman had basically been thrown at him for him to use.
However... Lion El'Jonson wasn't exactly complaining either
Eventually gets fed up with the Liege lord he is serving and decides to part ways but because of his tryst with Gloria he refuses to leave her behind
One evening when he is going to leave he jumps down, in full armor, onto the balcony of her room as he requested her and she was getting ready. This is also more impressive as he landed silently. He tells her to gather her things and that they were leaving. He wasn't going to leave his dove behind.
Had to kiss her after he grabbed her and lept from the balcony to keep her from screaming and alerting the whole castle to their escape.
Him and Gloria have 4 children Eldest son Luthor El'Jonson (this is the son we will follow) Eldest daughter Isolda El'Jonson Second daughter Gwendolyn El'Jonson Youngest son Asmodai El'Jonson
He will call his sons his squires and his daughters princesses
~NSFW~
He adores her wit and the way she gets a crude mouth when he pushes her buttons showing that she was not a noblewoman at all and just trained to be what she is.
Seduced his wife with less than knightly flirtations
My man will most certainly get pussydrunk
He is very much touch starved and affection starved (Like most of the Primarchs)
Will get emotional the first few times with her as she also made him feel loved
Gloria has scars on her arms and back from times others felt she was too mouthy and punished her. She just has a bad habit of having to have the last word or to add her own comment to a situation and it's bitten her in the ass, Lion enjoys it as she is respectful but still willful.
He loves his wife as besides being a guide for him in this new place she is something for him to pour all of his attention into as he's never had a woman and him just being a fragment of a full soul allows him to explore his desires.

February recs
Fandoms are all over the place this month since I finished my Yuletide trawl, so lots of small fandoms + Star Trek + Star Wars, sorted into thematic clusters for your reading pleasure.
Tumblr media
ALTERNATE UNIVERSE ADVENTURES
Another Life by @LullabyKnell (Star Trek AOS, gen)
In one moment, James T. Kirk is the acting captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, on his way home to Earth after stopping the Narada. In the next moment, without explanation, James T. Kirk is an Academy cadet on academic probation again, barely a day before Nero will destroy Vulcan.
He dares himself to do better. And with a planet on the line and no proof but his own memories, he knows that "better" means he'll need some help.
Classic time-travel fix-it elevated by a mid-story TOS-flavored twist! A wonderful adventure.
Commander Fox's Ultimate Bucket List by blackkat/ @blackkatmagic (Star Wars, Fox/Mace)
Fox has a second chance, a to-do list, a stolen lightsaber, and a complete willingness to give everyone around him grey hairs. Plus a Jedi Master to seduce. It's going to be a ride.
*cackles* Fox deserved this SO MUCH! Hilarious and satisfying.
Magic Casements by @edwardianspinsteraunt (A Little Princess, gen)
Becky is the one who rescues Mr Carrisford's monkey, and so the one whom the Magic happens to instead.
Captures the sweet magic and friendship of the original while making some sharp points about its class issues.
INVESTIGATIONS
The Striped Leg by wildwestwind (A Study in Emerald, gen)
The Adventure of The Speckled Band, set in the world of A Study In Emerald.
This author really knows their Lovecraft, which brings a rich and creepy new dimension to this very classic case. Mmm, pastiche perfection.
A Country Mile by @bropunzeling (Think of England, Fen/Pat)
“You want us to go to a house party? Really?”
“I hate to ask it of you,” Daniel said, voice muffled in that queer way one got with the telephone. "But I need someone I can trust to look after things there until then. Would you?”
Fen and Pat attend a house party and encounter: poison (pen letters); poison (literal); perilous dinner conversation; potential friendship; and physics.
Danger, espionage, female friendship, a lady scientist, general competence in the face of misogyny, Fen's self-esteem issues vs Pat's unswerving support, and a damn good read: what more could you want?
What It All Comes Down To by phnelt/ @phneltwrites (Think of England, canon pairings)
“Those blighters—” strong language from Fen there. Pat has been working on her in regards to fruity language but Fen hasn’t much taken to it. “ —won’t let women shoot at these newfangled Olympics games, despite England boasting some of the best women shooters in the world. Present company very much included.” Fen gets so heated when she advocates. It brings up a healthy colour to her cheeks. Pat smiles at her, helplessly. “So we simply must show them how good women can be by having Pat train you up from nothing so you can trounce them in the name of her club and in front of the eyes of God and the Olympic Committee.” If this wasn’t obviously one of Fen’s schemes it would be clear after her speech.
Charming friendship-centric story, with some light intrigue on the civilian side of things for once.
UNEXPECTED MEETINGS
Poiesis (Making) by ama (Queen's Thief, gen + Costis/Kamet)
Kamet is bewildered by a summons he receives to meet with the King of Sounis. After all, what could they possibly have to discuss?
Post-canon interlude where Kamet and Sophos bond over poetry, with great character writing.
Scene on a Balcony by Mary_West (Lord Peter, gen + Sylvia/Eiluned)
8th October 1935 and it's the wedding of the year - Lord Peter Wimsey and Miss Harriet Vane have finally tied the knot. But the wedding breakfast (served at the Dowager Duchess' London house) is getting a little heated. So the balcony is an excellent place to which to escape.
If anyone ever needed a sensible lesbian auntie, it's Jerry - but also this is sweet and funny and well-observed, from the wedding details to the practicalities of being queer at the time.
The Nuclear Option by Tangerine/ @atangeriner (From Eroica with Love, Klaus/Dorian)
When Klaus needs help with a family affair, Dorian is more than happy to offer his services.
Superb, satisfying, full of banter and yearning, and I love the slow reveal of wtf is going on with Klaus.
Time Enough by fresne/ @fresne999 (Ethan of Athos, Ethan/Terrence)
Terrence Cee had spent most of his life feeling like a jumpship caught in the gravity well of a blackhole. Engines on full bore. Only able to keep out of the crushing center, but never able to escape. Now in his new life on Athos, he found himself unsure of how to find a new pace.
Ethan wondered if there was a way to get his love life gestating again. Not frozen like zygotes stored in a bio-freezer against some eventual future.
Sweet get-together for the boys that addresses Terrence's trauma and socially deficient upbringing, plus meet-the-family shenanigans and rich worldbuilding for Athos in all its problematic glory. I am retroactively very pleased with myself for nominating this fandom for Yuletide (even if it took me a few months to get around to this one)!
and remains quiet by marycrawford/ @mcvices (Nirvana in Fire, gen)
She picks up her cup and sips delicately of the chrysanthemum tea she brought. It is cooling and calming. She doesn’t need calming, but Mei Changsu might. She is about to administer a medicine that the patient will find disagreeable.
The patient looks fevered, at the moment. “What is wrong with Jingyan?”
The AU divergence point is a little oblique - if I'm reading correctly, the Emperor dies early during the war and Consort Jing takes advantage of her Dowager status to go north to see MCS - but honestly who cares about the premise, because holy SHIT this author writes Consort Jing to perfection, in all her ruthlessly compassionate (or compassionately ruthless?) complexity.
PORN WITH FEELINGS
No Pity, But a Little Love by beautifulduckweed (Will Darling Adventures, Will/Kim)
The author's summary is a mess so I'm leaving it out, but this is a great post-series look at their relationship that captures their banter and mutual delight, plus Will getting exposed to more queer spaces, all structured around Will attempting anal sex again under less fraught circumstances.
Privacy by Resonant (Due South, Fraser/RayK)
“Guess it’s a while since you had a door with a lock on it?”
“I’ve never had a door with a lock on it."
I don't know how long it's been since Resonant wrote new DS fic, but she always nails (heh) their weird and weird-about-each-other charm and this is no exception!
through the desert, repenting by beautifulduckweed (Think of England, Archie/Daniel)
Daniel da Silva comes face-to-face with the deadly consequences of making a mistake and turns to a bad childhood habit to cope—but it's not enough, and Archie Curtis doesn't know how to help.
AKA the one where Archie counters Daniel's self-harm with sex, or as the author's tags put it "In the absence of therapy banging it out will have to do".

My brain has cooked up a new weird Spocklaan AU idea that I really need to ramble about a bit, I apologize in advance.
The idea was born in response to the picture of Christina below, with her outfit fitting right in with the dress code of the Vulcans in the upcoming SNW episode in my humble opinion.
The basic idea is that while Spock is meeting his fiance for the first (it's an arranged marriage because they're both Vulcan high society in this au), he ends up falling for her servant/bodyguard La'an instead.
But then it turns out, that La'an is royalty herself, like she's some sort of lost princess who's believed to have died with her family during the Gorn attack but was actually rescued by the Vulcans and thus ended up with T'Pring's family. But La’an can’t remember her true heritage due to the trauma of the attack until a mind meld with Spock helps her regain her memories. There might even be time for a ball with La'an wearing her Princess Thalia dress.
And now I realized that this idea feels quite similar to the plot of the Anastacia animated movie which is cool because I love that movie.

What can I say? I like this idea.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Stole this from @curator-on-ao3. (Thank you for the open tag!)
1. how many works do you have on Ao3?
111, not including the dozens of ficlets and short one-shots I've posted as separate chapters in fic collections.
2. what's your total Ao3 word count?
614,875 and counting.
3. what fandoms do you write for?
I've written for: Star Trek (TOS/AOS/DISC), Star Trek: Enterprise, Labyrinth (1986), Marvel, Once Upon a Time, Shadow and Bone, and LOTR: The Rings of Power.
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
The Princess and the King (Labyrinth, Jareth/Adult Sarah) A little girl wanders into the Underground and Jareth's life is forever changed. [3,467 words]
Text Alert (MCU, Loki/Jane Foster) Late one night, Jane found herself in an online chat room for Harvard alums. She and the user youweremadetoberuled hit it off and began a strange, anonymous friendship. [16,129 words]
Intoxicated (Star Trek TOS/AOS/DISC, Sarek/Amanda Grayson) Amanda Grayson sets out to make nice with Sarek, the infuriating Vulcan ambassador to Earth. Her future career prospects are on the line, after all. There's only one problem: the ambassador isn't quite himself. [9,034 words]
Drunk Dial (Labyrinth, Jareth/Adult Sarah) Five times Sarah drunk-called the Goblin King. One time he sobered her up. [7,138 words]
Touch (MCU, Loki/Jane Foster) The first touch was her fist to his jaw, and she thought the last was when he pushed her out of the way of a Dark Elf bomb—until he showed up years later with a proposition she had trouble turning down. [4,014 words]
5. do you respond to comments?
Yes, absolutely. That's my favorite part about writing fic—being able to interact with readers. Sometimes I'm slow in replying, but I promise I always will.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I have a few stories with unhappy endings, but I think this one is the most gut-wrenching read: Just a Dream (Labyrinth, Jareth/Adult Sarah) He can have her in their shared dreams, but is it enough? Obsession can be a dangerous thing. [1,644 words]
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I tend to mostly write happy endings—at least for stories that have a proper ending. I think there would be too many to list here.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
It's happened infrequently. I just delete the comments. I'm too old and tired for that kind of manufactured drama.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No, not really. I mean I have a few—very few—M-rated stories, but it's pretty much all feelings with pretty words and metaphors. The tension is my favorite part. When it comes to resolving it, I tend to be a "pan to the sky" writer.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I have written a couple. The zaniest? When Fairy Tale Meets Mythology (OUAT, Captain Swan; MCU, Loki/Jane Foster) While searching for Henry, Emma and Hook happen upon a strange couple in Neverland. [1,209 words]
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I was asked once, but I don't know if they followed through. I have had someone turn one of my stories into a podfic, though.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yep. I'm a fandom old. I hail from the days of doing fic Round Robins and fandom Big Bangs.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
The USS Enterprise NCC 1701 D, though the Jolly Roger comes in as a close second.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The companion fic to Three Months on Vulcan where we follow the escapades of Soval and Amanda Cole as she works as his assistant. I was going to call it Lost in Translation. But my drive to write it has fizzled out over the years. I just don't have it in me.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Fleshed out characters, humor, pretty prose, banter.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
F I N I S H I N G. Seriously, that's my goal for 2024: to finish at least 3 of my languishing multi-chapter fics. Also, I want to improve my longfic game. I tend to rush through the plot.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've done it, though I try not to overdo it. And I try to make it easy for the reader to understand from context so they don't have to constantly jump to end notes for the translations. I've been super fortunate to have a native-speaking fandom friend help me with Norwegian for some of my MCU stories. I've used Google Translate for Icelandic, and the Vulcan Language Database. Trying to write in Quenya is the worst, though. Never again! *gives Tolkien a side-eye*
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Trek: Enterprise
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
That's like asking me to choose a favorite child. How about one for each fandom:
Through the Dark Mirror Series (Star Trek: Enterprise, Trip/T'Pol) Stories that take place before, during, and after the events of the "In a Mirror, Darkly" episodes. [14,633 words and counting]
Pertinacious Wills (Labyrinth, Jareth/Adult Sarah) Regency AU Sarah Williams’s life is turned upside down when her widowed father remarries. At the same time, a new lord has taken over the Labyrinth who may be the most insufferable man Sarah has ever known. But as she is thrown in, quite against her will, with him and his kind, she discovers mysteries that call to question everything she thought she knew. [46,963 words and counting]
Blood for Blood (MCU, Loki/Jane Foster) He missed his chance by a heartbeat—the difference between life and death. Now, the mantle of savior rests on Loki’s shoulders. Will the mercurial God of Mayhem rise to the challenge of rescuing the nine realm from eternal darkness? [4,330 words]
The Worth of a Broken Soul (OUAT, Outlaw Queen) As a Keeper of the Watch, Robin hasn't been a mortal's personal guardian in centuries, but he's been tasked with a special case. Regina Mills is full of hate and anger, her aura so black it's difficult to find any hope left inside of her. Robin is determined to succeed in his assignment, even if it requires unconventional methods, but drawing her closer to Redemption is changing him as well. Will he pay any price for her salvation? For the salvation, too, of the lost souls he's unwittingly collected along the way? [14,407 words and counting]
The Nightwalker Chronicles Series (OUAT, Captain Swan) Emma Swan is an expert private investigator, but recently she's witnessed things that even she cannot explain. The only one willing to help her safely navigate the underbelly of the city in search of answers is the man who saved her life, a mysterious artist with secrets of his own. [6,448 and counting]
I haven't written much for either Shadow and Bone or The Rings of Power, and I don't feel like I have proper favorites for them.
Yes, I know I'm not listing any of my comedies, dear friend who knows who they are. That's because they aren't *my* favorites.

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Thanks for the tag, @lizzy0305 <333
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
162
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
622,263 - surprisingly low for how many fics I have, but a bunch are drabbles so I guess that checks.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
What fandoms don't I write for? XD
Supernatural. Sherlock. Star Trek. Teen Wolf. Marvel. Harry Potter. Merlin. James Bond. Lucifer. House MD. Primeval. Doctor Who. Venom. The Witcher. The Old Guard. Ted Lasso. Detroit Become Human. Good Omens. Our Flag Means Death. Hannibal.
Plus a few others.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Meant To Be - AOS Star Trek
5 Times Jim Forgot About Vulcan Hand Sensitivity & 1 Time He Didn't - AOS Star Trek
Making Love - Venom
Lunch Break - House MD
Truth Or Dare - Supernatural
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to respond to every comment provided its not hate, I ignore hate. I want people to know that their comment is truly appreciated from the bottom of my heart. Comments are food for the writer's soul.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably either The Void (TOS Star Trek) or Forever (SPN) or most of my SPN Endverse fics.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics have happy endings, I live for them! Hmmm trying to think of particularly fluffy ones though... The Prince and The Princess - (AOS Star Trek) What No Man Has Done Before - (AOS Star Trek X HP) Good News - (DBH) Afterlife - (TOS Star Trek)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not too much, but it happens every so often. Why people can't just exit a fic or not interact with it if they don't like it is beyond me.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Sure do. Um, explicit and M/M but the specifics vary depending on pairing and fic. Been getting more detailed and more adventurous with it over the years though.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Ohhhh boi have I ever written a crazy crossover XD
Convergence - where I brought many many fandoms (and even more ships) together in a story with an actual plot.
Its not my only crossover, but it's by far the craziest.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I'm aware of, but I have been asked if some can be translated before, just never heard from them again.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
In a way with @lizzy0305 who started Fragments ages ago and then I finished it because we both knew she wasn't going to finish it.
and also Double Date with weegie8 a long long time ago.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
My OTP of OTPs is Spirk <3
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Theres a johnlock fic that could be the first wip i never go back to.
and an SPN and a Stanner fic that both could stay wips forever, but honestly it just takes one spark in my brain and the right mood and I could finish any of these, so never say never.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Not sure really. My fluff is extra tooth rotting? XD Also once I get used to a character their voice is easy to channel I suppose.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Feels like everything when you're trying to write a damn fic XD um, maybe not putting in enough details into a scene.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I often use Vulcan language in Star Trek fics, I think it adds to it. However I get that it can be annoying to not understand a piece of likely important dialogue cause its in another language. It doesn't bother me though.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Technically HP when I was teen, before I knew what fandom and fanfiction were. But when I was in the know it was Supernatural.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
How can I just pick one? I'll pick a multichapter and a one shot that I love.
The One That Got Away - TOS Star Trek
The Update - DBH
