Not ridiculous at all | James Potter
Tumblr media
Pairing: James Potter x fem!Reader
Word Count: 3.5k
Summary: You are part of the marauders, always having felt special when they called you part of the gang, but also consequently too embarrassed to admit to wanting to be more feminine, afraid that they would no longer deem you cool enough to hang out with you. You are hurt by James' comments and James might realise something when you're avoiding him.
Notes: Best friend!James, he's a bit stupid, Lily is a sweet friend, arguments, so maybe a little angsty, but not really, classic cliche tropes like friends to lovers, misunderstandings, pining (I literally just dreamt this so it's a bit patchy) and I know it's very stereotypical but that's why it's just fanfiction :)
(PS) I haven't written before, just wanted to get this out of my system. English is my third language, and this fic is not proofread because I'm way too lazy for that! Enjoy!
Part two Masterlist
__________________
You've grown up with James Potter and have been part of the marauders since the very beginning. You always took 'being one of the guys' or 'part of the gang' as a compliment, it left you feeling giddy as if you were included in some secret group that only you had the privilege of belonging to.
But sometimes you would sit in the girls dormitory and despite your friends laughing and chatting about, you would feel a wave of loneliness wash over you. They often did activities together and by now, 6th year at Hogwarts, they've managed to stop asking you to join them as you've always dutifully replied that it 'wasn't your thing'.
I mean, what would the guys think of you? It would be too embarrassing to admit to them, or anyone for that matter, that you would love to be dolled up for once. To go shopping with your friends, be included in movie nights, asked by Alice if she could test some makeup on you, or read and gossip about the new romance novels that were the new hype.
Especially now when you sat on your bed, part of the circle in which they were discussing plans to go dress shopping.
"You should absolutely join us!" Alice squealed in delight. You were shaken out of your train of thoughts with a huh and realized the conversation had taken a turn somewhere and now included you too. Marlene and Lily nodded fervently in agreement but you bashfully shook your head.
"Nah, can you imagine me in a dress?" You joked, but Dorcas caught the curious and somewhat longing look in your eyes at the mention of getting ready for the Yule ball.
"I think you would look great actually. And besides, you can treat yourself too sometime you know. You're not obligated to stick with the marauders all the time." The girls in the dorm once again all agreed and you smiled at their kindness.
"Since when are you interested in things like the Yule ball?"
You snapped your head up at James to see his questioning eyes and then quickly averted your own in a flustered manner as if one of your greatest secrets had just been uncovered. "I just think it seems nice, that's all, I'm not even going or anything", you defended. You felt slightly embarrassed by James' face which wore a weirded out expression.
"Well you're not really the type to go to such an event anyway right?", James remarked. You did your best to hide your frown at his immediate agreement. Was it that bad that you'd hoped he would say something along the lines of 'what are you talking about, go enjoy yourself at the party' or something like that?
"Besides I can't imagine you in a dress, all made up, it'd just look so ridiculous." James continued. Remus, ever the sweet and attentive boy glanced at you and noticed your slightly sacked shoulders in disappointment at his words.
"I mean you're just not that type of person, you know? Like completely opposite of Lily."
And with that your face felt like it burned from embarrassment. As if you didn't already know. That didn't mean you didn't want to be more like her sometimes.
Peter's eyes flicked with concern from James to you and back.
You felt hurt and forced yourself to stop tears welling up at his words, mustering up a grin, ready to agree with him but were interrupted by Sirius who had now also caught your change in mood.
"Prongs, you really have no tact at all, how are you expecting to even win Evans over with that?" He said in a playful manner as to not offend their whipped friend, but not fully succeeding.
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?" James looked slightly offended and Remus jumped in the conversation.
"That's just not a nice thing to say. It's different if you call me an ugly toad, but not Y/N! If she wants to go to the Yule Ball all dolled up, she definitely should." He shot you a supportive smile which you returned.
Peter nodded in agreement. "I don't think you'd look ridiculous at all," he told you sincerely. You subtly scooted a little closer to him and Remus.
"But it's Y/N, it'd just look weird, cause she's just not a proper girl like that, no offense." James shot back and gave you a smile at the last two words.
You saw Remus opening his mouth to retort but quickly intervened. "He's right." You told them. You just wanted this conversation to be over with already. It was awkward and painful for you as it was.
James didn't seem to get the memo, however, and kept on going, drilling your confidence further into the ground.
"See, she agrees." He turned to you. "It's not like you're ugly or anything but it'd be ridiculous. Like I said, you're not the type to be all beautiful and dressed up, hair done and all. I mean you're cool, but not pretty like that." He was clearly not done yet and started talking about Lily and her beauty at which point you abruptly got up and left.
"What's gotten into her?" James remarked with a frown.
Sirius and Remus didn't even bother to answer and just stared at him in disbelief.
The girls comforted you as you cried. Marlene barged in with ice cream, stolen from the kitchen in one hand and 5 spoons in the other. "What a jerk." She commented and thrust a spoon in your hand before plopping down in front of you with the rest of your friends.
Lily sighed frustratedly. "See this is why I don't like him at all. He's so rude and arrogant, and he-"
"- is right." You answered dejectedly. "I'm your friend, but not the type to join you guys and belong to your circle."
"Well that's only because you hang around the boys all the time," Alice argued. She nudged you. "But you know what, now that James is being a git, you can hang out with us!"
Dorcas gasped dramatically. "We could do a girls night! Treat ourselves a little", she jumped up. "I'll get the face masks and nail polish!"
Lily let go of you too and told you to sit up. "Come on, let me do your hair," she smiled.
With Marlene feeding you ice cream, your nails being polished by Alice, hair done by Lily and Dorcas reading the latest romance novel out loud while you were all wearing a facemask, you couldn't help but feel all warm inside.
"I love you guys."
"Don't talk with your mouth full."
You laughed and pushed Marlene teasingly off the bed.
"Hey, watch it! I just finished your right hand." Alice complained.
James was a moron. He was kind hearted (to most), popular, captain of the Quidditch team, good looking but a moron nonetheless. So he was absolutely clueless to find you missing from the common room yesterday evening and even more clueless when you were missing from your usual spot next to him at the Gryffindor table in the great hall, because he could not for the life of him think of a reason why you would sit with Alice and Frank instead.
He frowned and felt uneasy at the fact that you hadn't even looked at him, let alone come for a hug with your smile and said 'good morning' like usual. He shook the thoughts away. You were obviously allowed to have your own friends as well and not obligated to spend all your time with him.
The door of the great hall behind him opened and Lily Evans walked in, which was why instead of walking up to you to say something, he habitually turned to Lily instead.
"You look beautiful this morning as usual. I could put in the effort to match you when we go out together?" He shot her a wink and a coy smile but faltered slightly when his attempts at flirting got even less of a reaction out of her than usual.
James turned to Sirius with a questioning look, as if to ask 'you noticed that too right?' but Sirius simply shrugged. When James looked back at Frank and Alice, you were gone, having left the moment you felt his stare.
James started to ponder. 'Were you avoiding him? Surely you wouldn't, right? You two were friends after all, childhood friends. Childhood best friends even, for Merlin's sake! If you were upset with him, you'd definitely let him know.'
A week passed with you, sitting on the opposite sides of the classroom, seemingly having picked partners long before class because how else would you team up with random students before James could even blink?
He had now fully accepted that you were avoiding him. And with that, he meant 'accepting the possibility of that occurrence'. He was by no means going to accept your strange new behavior without doing anything.
The last drop though, was when he heard the news from Peter that you'd already left for Hogsmeade with the girls.
He frowned. 'You were kind', he reasoned. If you were upset with him, then he'd have to apologize. Quickly. Because it's been far too long without his best friend and he realized he missed you. Especially seeing you hang out with others.
"What did I do?" He finally asked his remaining friends.
"Really Prongs?" Remus couldn't help but ask. His friend just gave him a look that said 'well go on then, what is it'.
"How about you think about what you said last week, you know, those rude comments about the Yule ball."
"Yeah, but I already apologized yesterday and told her that I didn't mean to offend her!" James flailed his arms around when he exclaimed it.
"But she's still only hanging out with anyone but me," he whined. "Peter studied with her, Pads got a 'good morning' this morning and you're still talking to eachother.
Remus gave him an unimpressed look at his whining but James was not done complaining yet.
"She keeps spending all her time with the girls while she doesn't even seem to be fully enjoying herself"
This was true. You dearly missed James, so despite your newfound hobbies, a look of sadness sometimes fell over your face, which hadn't escaped James' attention.
"And I just don't understand why she would-" He started but never finished, something dawning on him. "Oh of course! Merlin, I'm so stupid!" He shouted out in epiphany.
"Your words not mine," Sirius quickly took the opportunity.
"Oh bugger off Pads", James laughed and pushed Sirius' arm. And with that, he took off to find you.
Sirius and Remus watched him leave and sighed at the same time. "Do you really think he got it?"
"I bloody hope so, Moony."
"But it's James."
"Yeah, but I mean it's not my fight but even I realize that she's sad that James made fun of the idea of her being more girly when she secretly wants to be. Now she's trying out what she likes, without having to stay within the role of 'one of the guys'. I mean, it's pretty straightforward. I guess a genuine apology and show of support is the solution."
"But it's James."
"Yep, you're right."
Though he hadn't been able to find you, he'd waited patiently for your return in the common room. Staring at the ceiling from his laid back position on the couch.
"Oh there you are, Y/N," He rushed to sit up to face you when you entered the room. If you were surprised by his presence, you didn't show it.
"We need to talk, I wanted to apologize." He breathed out, relieved at himself for having figured it out. "Also, I've missed you so much."
You felt a weight fall off your shoulders. You didn't want to be upset with him and felt incredibly relieved to hear him say that.
"I'm sorry for the things I said. I didn't mean for you to get offended or anything," James began.
"Yeah, you already said that." You frowned. "And I remember I told you that that was not a proper apology."
"I know, I know. It was shitty of me so I wanted to apologize. Properly you know? I'm really really sorry. I was a terrible friend and shouldn't have said the things I said. Please forgive me?" He proceeded to give you Bambi eyes in an attempt to convince you. It unsurprisingly worked.
You softly smiled up at him. "Okay". You barely got the word out before he pulled you into a bone-crushing hug.
"Great," he said, cutting through the comfortable silence that you two had been hugging in.
"Now you don't have to avoid me anymore, and you can stop sitting with the girls to prove your point, and join us again instead." He triumphantly continued.
What now?
You blanked. "I'm sorry?" You managed to ask.
"I get that I hurt you by saying your weren't a proper girl, but you don't have to pretend to prove your point by trying to be one." James stated, proud of himself that he figured it out.
"Because I can see that you don't like it, like your face gets all gloomy which is understandable because it isn't really your circle of people."
You stared at him, an incredulous look on your face.
"Fuck you James." You said, your voice coming out softer than you'd hoped. Tears were welling up again, but you couldn't help yourself.
"Has it ever occurred to you that maybe I do want that to be my circle of people? That I don't just want to be one of the guys all the time? Is it that crazy to think that I'm still a girl with feelings? That I want to feel pretty too? That I don't like being told by my supposed best friend that I'm basically ugly? That I hate to be compared to other girls like that?"
You were ranting and James had taken a step back, surprised by your outburst.
"No, that's not what I-", James tried to salvage the situation but you weren't having it.
"You've told me that stuff for as long as I can remember and I never told you otherwise because I was scared that you'd no longer want to hang out with me for not being a 'chill friend'. But you know what, I no longer want you to."
At this point, you angrily wiped your eyes to get rid of tears that were threatening to spill. "So fuck you". With that, you brushed past him, escaping upstairs to your room.
James Fleamont Potter felt absolutely miserable.
If anyone told James that you'd ever be more on his mind than Lily, he would call them ridiculous. But here he was, another week had passed and he was staring at your back as you were leaving with your friends for Hogsmeade again.
You weren't wearing your school uniform and robes anymore and James was surprised to see you wearing one of what he knew to be Lily's dresses.
'It suited you more than it suited Lily.' The unwarranted thought flashed through his mind and he shook his head with a scoff to himself. What was going on?
James also noticed that your hair was brushed and shining with a butterfly clip holding your hair in a bun. He wondered when you decided to change your hairstyle because he found that it framed your face perfectly.
'Not ridiculous at all,' he understood.
You looked absolutely perfect.
You turned your face a little and James could feel his head reeling. Have you always been this glowing? Was he just simply missing you? He didn't even realize that he hadn't spared Lily a glance- until Sirius mentioned her while they were having a drink - and a strange feeling washed over him at the thought.
You were running from Filch.
'Fuck I shouldn't have studied after hours, curfew was probably hours ago," you cursed to yourself and took a sharp right turn. You were trying to reach the secret passage right behind the big statue on the fourth floor when you saw the hallway light up because of Filches torch.
Forcing your legs to move faster, you were suddenly grabbed by the wrist. A hand was clasped over your mouth and you felt a heavy cloth fall over you.
You recognised the person pressed to your back immediately and tried not to melt in his embrace as Filch walked straight past the two of you, covered in the invisibility cloak.
You could feel his breath against your temple. His hand had dropped from your mouth, instead draping across your stomach now to rest on your side. The other held out in front of you to create space under the cloak. You shifted a little and finally turned your head and lifted it to look at him and thank him but you were unable to say anything for a moment.
You simply admired him.
The proximity of the two of you in that intimate embrace had something fluttering in your stomach and you harshly jerked away in denial when your feelings hit you.
Oh no.
Now, all suddenly? What changed? Does it really take one random moment to flip your world upside down?
You rushed to push the invisibility cloak out of your way and then left without sparing James another glance.
James couldn't force his legs to move to run after you, still reeling from about the exact same epiphany that you'd just run away from. Your gaze, his fast beating heart and the urge he had felt to lean down for a kiss had confirmed his conflicted feelings of the past few days since he'd seen you leave for Hogsmeade.
The following morning, you'd had the chance to properly process the happenings of last night.
Your conclusion was that you felt guilty that you hadn't even expressed your gratitude. It was rude, you figured. Even if you were overwhelmed by the sudden wave of realization that came crashing down on you, it was rude.
So you pushed your confused feelings aside and marched up to him when you found him in the great hall.
"Thanks, I owe you." You awkwardly said, stopping at his spot at the Gryffindor table. All while absolutely not having forgotten about the fact that the last time you had said something to him, you'd flipped him off and told him to go fuck himself.
James was absolutely beaming. "Yeah you do, but no worries, I'll cash it in right away." This was his chance. He would make up for his behavior and act on his feelings right now.
"How about a date?"
There was a long silence. Your heart plummeted to the ground. Right. James. Lily. Lily and James.
"What am I a magician?" You finally managed to sarcastically retort. "I'm a convincing person but not a miracle worker." You pulled your hand through your hair as you looked around the great hall to see if you could spot Lily.
"Alright, I'll see what I can do." You forced a smile.
James, who had been mostly confused at your words, disregarded it completely in delight at your acceptance to go out with him, even if it seemed somewhat reluctant. Not that it would matter because he was going to prove what an amazing boyfriend he could be. If you'd accept him, of course.
He was grinning from ear to ear, which you mistook as excitement at the prospect of a potential date with Lily. So when you abruptly turned on your heels and marched over to Lily, James watched you confusedly.
And when he heard you try to talk Lily into going out with him, he wanted to crawl in a ditch and die. He stood there, frozen and recounting how you could've interpreted that wrongly.
You returned to him after a while with an apologetic smile. "Yeah sorry Prongs, she-"
"You", he blurted out.
You raised your eyebrows. "Me?" You repeated back.
"The date, I meant you. A-and me of course. Us, like you and me on a date. Together. I thought maybe Hogsmeade?" He managed to force the words out nervously.
There was a long silence and James' shoulders slumped a little. Even more when you finally answered.
"Uh, no?" You said in a questioning manner. James officially wanted to die now.
"You're sweet James, and I don't think you do it on purpose but you're not interested in me like that." You began, trying to convince not only James, but yourself as well.
James opened his mouth to argue but you quickly interrupted him before he could properly do so.
"James, you really don't. And you asking me out on a date when you've quite literally been drooling over Lily just last week as you have been doing for the past 5 years, that's not very nice to me." You frowned.
"Oh." He whispered. He was once again at a lack of words for a moment. Terrible new habit, he thought. This was not how he thought it would go.
"I'd still gladly go with you to Hogsmeade though?" You offered. "Just you know, not as an easy second choice date while you are obviously head over heels with her."
'I'm not', he wanted to tell you, but it was obvious that you wouldn't believe him. "Yeah okay," he weakly smiled. "Just the two of us though."
You nodded and stepped forward, wrapped your arms around him and he leaned into you, returning the hug.
With his face pressed in your hair, eyes closed, he decided that this situation wasn't too bad. He's fought for Lily's affection for years. He'd fight harder for yours.

Read on AO3 ~ Masterlist
There’s something about him that rubs you the wrong way. It could be his arrogance, or the condescending way he peers over his glasses at you and your other colleagues. It might be the overpriced cashmere turtlenecks that hug his figure perfectly or the stupid silver earrings adorning his stupid elf ears. But every time he opens his pretty little mouth you feel a snarl growing deep in your throat.
This is the first university you’ve worked at where the theatre and English departments shared an office. Theatre and music, sure, even theatre and dance. But theatre and English? It feels insulting, honestly. English PhDs are some of the snobbiest people you’ve ever met, and they always speak to you like a child. Is it because they’re unimpressed by your MFA, like it made you less deserving of your position? Who knows. But Astarion Ancunin is no different.
“Grace, would you mind making twelve copies of pages 219-254 when you get a chance?” You hand the administrative assistant the heavy book. “You can leave them in my mailbox, I’ll pick them up later.” Grace opens the book to the instructed page.
“Oh, Much Ado About Nothing! I love that one!” she squeals with delight. “That Beatrice and Benedick,” she sighs, stroking the Complete Works lovingly. You smile at her cordially.
“They’re great, they’re basically the non-problematic version of Kate and Petruchio,” you respond in agreement.
“How tragic that Taming’s writing is better.”
You whirl around to see Ancunin walking in looking at something on his phone. He doesn’t even look up as he inserts himself into your conversation. You glare at his interruption. He looks up at Grace, bypassing you completely.
“Good morning, Grace darling, how are you today?” He sweeps over to her and takes her hand in his, planting a kiss on her knuckles. Gods he’s fucking insufferable. Not to mention unprofessional. Grace, however, blushes and giggles like a schoolgirl.
“I’m doing well, Dr. Ancunin, and yourself?” The tiefling’s voice jumps up about three pitches and her tail starts swishing excitedly.
“Leagues better now that I’ve been blessed with your presence,” he coos at her, voice positively saccharine. It takes every ounce of your patience to keep from rolling your eyes. He casts his gaze to you, and even you need to turn away from those piercing red eyes.
“Good morning, professor. Starting Much Ado with your students, I take it?” he asks with a light smile that makes you bristle.
“Yes, it’s a great way for them to practice switching between verse and prose,” you respond coolly, more than a little defensive.
“Of course, one of his best.” He glances down at the volume still in Grace’s hands and his eyebrows raise, peering over the top of his round glasses. “Going with the Bevington, hmm? Interesting. I’m more of a Norton man, myself.” He runs a slender finger along the binding as you grit your teeth. Is he really patronizing you over your choice of edition of Shakespeare’s Complete Works? Of course, he’s an English scholar.
“The Norton is a great tool dramaturgically, but the Bevington is a much better resource for actors, so, yes.” Your voice is steady but there’s an undeniable venom in it. Can he tell how much he’s bothering you? Probably, he’s almost certainly getting enjoyment out of riling you up. His little smirk would seem to suggest it, at least.
“Well certainly, and who knows acting resources better than our resident classical acting expert?” he intones, voice still dripping with honey. You narrow your eyes at him, unsure if he’s taking another jab at your degree.
“Well, as much as I enjoy standing around and debating the merit of various editions of the Complete Works, I’m about to be late for a meeting. Grace, thank you so much, I’ll be back later to pick up those copies. Dr. Ancunin,” you turn to his smug face and he looks back at you innocently. “A pleasure, as always.” You grab your papers and leave the office, feeling the heat of his gaze boring into the back of your head as you leave.
***
“Yes, Thaniel, come on in, have a seat,” you call out to the freshman loitering in the hallway outside your office. He comes in and drops his overfull backpack next to the teal club chair across from your desk. You close your laptop and smile at him warmly.
“So, Hamlet, that’s ambitious! I think it’s a good choice for you, but it’ll be a lot of work,” you say, glancing at your own copy of the monologue.
“Yeah, that’s why I’m here,” Thaniel says nervously. “I’m fine with the scansion and stuff, that I get, but I still don’t get the actual words. And I know you said how important that is.”
“For sure, I can guarantee all of the bad Shakespeare you’ve seen has been because the actors had no idea what they were saying. Have you used the Lexicon?” Thaniel looks off to the side, embarrassed.
“No, I don’t really get how that works either,” he says, an air of chagrin creeping into his voice.
“No worries, it takes practice. Here, we’ll do a few lines together. So first off, to be or not to be, that’s fairly obvious, right?”
“Yeah, he’s talking about suicide, right?”
“Sure, but what is he actually saying about it? To take arms against a sea of troubles/And by opposing, end them. What’s ‘them’ referring to?”
“The sea of troubles?”
“Right, the aforementioned slings and arrows. So even though you might know what those words mean individually, look them up in the Lexicon to see if they have a different context here. But you’re right, he’s trying to figure out if it’s better to suffer through the shittiness of existence or to take your fate into your own hands and, well, end them.” You highlight the line and lean over your desk to show Thaniel. A voice pipes up from the doorway.
“That’s not exactly what he’s saying, you know.”
The paper crumples in your hand slightly as your fist instinctively tightens. You plaster a strained smile on your face and look up at him.
“Dr. Ancunin, thank you for gracing us with your presence. Care to elaborate?”
He’s leaning in the doorway, arms crossed, face in shadows. Your office is unusually dark because of the storm outside, and so the bright fluorescents in the hallway give him an almost ethereal halo effect
“It’s a common misconception that Hamlet is contemplating suicide here. Life and death, sure, but ‘to take arms’ isn’t metaphorical, it’s literal. He’s contemplating dying as a result of killing Claudius, not taking his own life,” he says, almost sounding bored. You stand abruptly, your office chair skidding backwards.
“How can that possibly be true? He says ‘to take arms against a sea of troubles.’ He’s using the active voice, deciding whether or not to continue his life or end it. To be or not to be. It’s the first line in the monologue. He’s not talking about the consequences of killing Claudius.” You try to keep your voice from shaking. You know that you don't sound nearly as eloquent as him, and it’s pissing you off. He shrugs nonchalantly.
“You’re oversimplifying it, it’s exceedingly more complicated than that. The whole soliloquy is filled with war imagery. He’s at war with himself, the part of him that wants to kill Claudius and the part of him that is afraid to die.” He pushes himself off the door frame and steps back into the hallway. “But apologies, please don’t let me interrupt your instruction.” And like that he was off, leaving you to stew in silence. Thaniel looks up at you and looks back at the doorway where he stood.
“Should I…” he starts, but you cut him off with a wave of your hand.
“Dr. Ancunin comes at this from a very different angle as an English academic. He’s more interested in the words on the page, rather than how they translate to the stage. But,” you sigh, loathe to give him any credit, “it’s a valid interpretation. We can go down that route, if you want, or we can look at it through this lens.” Thaniel chews his lip while he considers his options.
“I think what you said makes more sense, the suicide bit,” he finally decides. You nod and pull out your copies of the Shakespeare Lexicon.
“Great, let’s go over how to use the Lexicon again,” you say as you flip through the book, looking for the entry for ‘slings.’
***
You drop off your bag and toss your keys into a bowl on the counter. Fucking exhausting day. You unzip your boots and kick them vaguely in the direction of the shoe rack, stretching and curling your toes for relief. You hang up your wet coat and shake rain from your hair. Your eyes dart between the refrigerator, wherein resides a bottle of white wine, and the bathroom door, contemplating how good a hot bath would feel. Both? Both is good.
You pour yourself a generous glass of Riesling and strip your clothes on your way to the bathroom. One of the perks of living alone. Sitting naked on the edge of the tub, you sip your wine as the bath fills.
Fucking Ancunin.
You’re a little shocked at how much he got under your skin today. Normally you don’t think twice about him, excepting the few times you have the misfortune of passing him in the hallway. But today the fates decided to throw you together and your schedules aligned. Well, in your defense, you didn’t seek him out that second time, he was the one who decided to crash your office hours.
You don’t even like Hamlet that much. You certainly don’t care about alternative interpretations of “To be or not to be.” But you’re mostly annoyed because he had a fair point. His read makes Hamlet a more interesting character rather than a cowardly incel romanticizing suicide.
You slide into the bath, hissing slightly as the hot water flows over your chilled skin. Without prompting, Ancunin worms his way back into your thoughts. Hmmph. You take a gulp of wine to try to wash away the taste of the unpleasant image.
Well… not entirely unpleasant. He’s a good looking man, you’d be a fool to deny it. But gods he’s so smug. And interrupting your meeting with Thaniel was wildly inappropriate. Leaning your head against the edge of the tub, you try to focus your thoughts elsewhere. You’re not about to let him interrupt you again, and when he’s not even present, no less.
But there he is, in your mind, crimson eyes looking over the top of those metal frame glasses that you’re, like, 99% sure he doesn’t actually need to see. You take another swig of wine to drown his stupid face. With his stupid cheekbones. And his dumb fucking earrings that you want to bite.
Nine hells, what is happening? You’ve been drinking your wine quickly and aren’t thinking straight. You grab your phone and open Spotify, letting your daily mix play through the bluetooth speaker on the counter.
Now Playing: Hatefuck by The Bravery.
If I put my hands around your wrists, would you fight them?
If I put my fingers in your mouth, would you bite them?
By Mystra’s fucking grace, seriously? You growl at the growing heat between your legs. Between putting off dinner and chugging your wine, your head is swimming. You might be better off getting it out of your system.
The wine glass hits the tub edge with a clank as you angrily put it down and sink into the water up to your chin. You are satiating a purely physical need, nothing else.
You still shiver as you slip your hand between your legs, lightly running your finger up your slit. You can see his face, looking down on you through those glasses - those infuriating glasses - and your lips flutter. What does he look like under those sweaters? He’s so thin, but his clothes fit incredibly well. It’s not hard to imagine a sculpted body beneath. You spread your legs further and let the warm water tickle your folds.
His silvery curls would look so good between your legs, slender fingers wrapped around your thighs while he laps you up. At least then he’d shut up. A gentle moan escapes your lips as you run your finger along your inner lips, pretending it’s him. You could grab hold of those perfect locks, yanking on them to control where he can go, fucking his face.
You move your other hand up to your breast and start teasing your nipple, feeling his lips around it. You give it a little tug and groan, just like if he nipped at it.
You imagine sitting on his pretty face, pointed ears flushed and hair a mess. Your hips buck into your hand as they might on top of him and your toes curl. You make gentle circles around your clit, thinking of all the other uses for his silver tongue. You whine and squirm at the sensations of heat radiating through your body. You slip a finger inside and hiss as you can see his pale digits entering you in your mind’s eye. You curl it upwards and gasp, his imaginary eyes looking up at you through those long lashes and a smirk playing across his imaginary lips.
“Are you ready for more of me, darling?” You can hear him murmur into your ear.
“Yes, gods yes,” you reply breathlessly into the cold bathroom air. You slide another finger in and feel that delicious stretch. The ghost of him moans, coming undone at the sight of you. You could leave him speechless, for once.
You reach over the edge of the tub and grab the box of waterproof toys. You frantically sift through your collection of dildos, trying to find the right one. Here. It’s long and svelte like the rest of him, but bright shimmery purple. You suction it to the bottom of the tub and hover above it on your knees. It sways lightly in the water, tip of it teasing your pussy just like you’d love to do to him.
Gods, to see him beg for your cunt. To see him reduced to a babbling mess, pleading to let him inside you. Your breath quickens at the mental image of him pulling on his own hair waiting for you to satisfy him. You sink down onto the dildo and your groan of pleasure mirrors what you’d like to hear from him.
You start sliding yourself on the purple dick, feeling its ridges glide against the walls of your cunt as you continue to finger your clit. You imagine your hand splayed across his chest, your black nails standing in contrast against his pale skin. You claw at the bottom of the tub as you increase your pace, desperate to see the pink raised skin that your nails leave behind. The fingers on your clit speed up as well, and you can feel yourself getting close.
“Oh gods, Astarion, don’t stop,” the words tumble from your mouth unbidden. You will absolutely hate yourself for that later, but right now all that matters is your ecstasy. You bounce atop the dildo, disregarding the water that splashes over the side of the tub as you chase your finish. Your moans increase in pitch and fervor as the various images of him in all sorts of positions flash through your mind. Between your thighs, sitting on his face, riding his dick, even fucking pegging him from behind because why the hell not?
“Astarion!” You cry out his name as you crash over the edge, legs shaking and pussy pulsing. Your orgasm reverberates throughout your whole body as you ride it out. Eventually, your movement slows and the water gently sways around you. You look down at your hand, milky juices swirling in the now tepid tub water.
Shit.
***
The next day at work, you avoid him like the plague. You keep your office door closed, usually an unthinkable act but entirely necessary right now. You double check the hallway before leaving to go teach, and then after class you immediately duck back into your office and close the door again. You even avoid the main office for fear of running into him there.
You can’t look at his face right now. You can’t possibly look him in the eye.
When 5:00 rolls around, you glance out into the hallway. Most of the other professors are leaving. To play it safe, you decide to work until 6 so that you can be sure that he’s gone when you leave. You absentmindedly grade performance responses. After you’ve read one paragraph about Miss Julie maybe a half dozen times, you realize that it’s probably time to go.
You slowly open the door and glance out into the hallway. You can’t tell from this angle if his door is open or not. You grab your bag and coat, take a deep breath, and make a beeline for the stairs. As you approach his office you realize it’s open.
Fuck.
It’s fine. You’ll just walk past it and get to the parking lot and then you won’t need to worry about it. He might not even be in there. Or if he is, he probably has his head down and won’t notice you walk by. It’s fine. You’ve got this.
“Oh, professor, a word?” His voice floats into the hallway right as you’re passing his door. Are you fucking kidding? You turn to see him sitting at his desk, head down, writing something. He doesn’t even look up at you. Prick.
“Yes?” you ask, not budging from your spot in the hall. He glances up at you over his glasses. Those fucking glasses. You want to rip them off his face and throw them out the window.
“Do you have a moment? I think we need to talk.” His voice is low and cool. Does he fucking know? There’s no way he can know.
Right?
You tentatively take a step into his office. It’s surprisingly cluttered for a man who always looks so put together, but it’s still warm and inviting. You can barely see the walls for being covered corner to corner in bookshelves full to bursting. He’s got a big mahogany desk in the middle of the room - significantly nicer than the university-issued one. It’s covered in stacks of papers, books, weird little knick knacks; it’s amazing how he’s able to get anything done on it. There are two chairs facing his desk, much like yours, but a rich plush velvet instead of a scratchy cotton weave. He’s got a scent diffuser somewhere, giving the room an aroma like an earthy spiced tea.
“Have a seat,” he says, gesturing to the cushy red chairs across from him. You stand there, clutching your bag, staring at him like a deer in the headlights. When he realizes you’re not going to sit, he gets up and crosses over to the door.
“Do you mind if I close this? It’s… a bit embarrassing,” he asks with a crooked smile. You can feel the heat in your cheeks rising. Your mouth goes dry and you try to swallow the lump forming in your throat.
There’s no way he knows.
Right?
But something compels you to nod, so he closes the door and walks back to his desk, but rather than sitting behind it, he leans back casually on the front of it. He’s taken off the blazer he usually wears and is down to just the turtleneck, sleeves pushed up just below his elbows. He crosses his arms in front of his chest as you stare, waiting.
“I wanted to… apologize. For yesterday.”
You blink at him, the conversation not going in the direction you expected. You had been so focused on yourself, that it took you a moment to realize what he was referring to.
“It was inappropriate to barge in on your meeting with your student. You were mid-instruction, and I needn’t have inserted myself into your conversation.” He leaned back on his hands, stretching out his lean figure to impossible proportions. The grip on your bag slackened and you couldn’t help but drag your gaze over the length of his body. He looks at you quizzically.
“I get the sense that you don’t very much like me,” he muses.
Now it’s his turn to give you the once-over, and you feel practically naked before him the way he looks at you. “Then again,” he adds, and pushes himself off his desk. He slowly advances toward you, though whether like someone approaching a vicious beast or a predator stalking its prey, it’s unclear. You retreat while holding his gaze until your back is flush against the door.
No escape now.
He gets precariously close to you and takes an unsettling whiff. When he speaks again, his voice is a husky growl.
“I think it’s entirely possible you like me… quite a bit.” He’s got at least a half foot on you, and he looks down on you with heavy-lidded eyes. The heat in your face has fully reached the tips of your ears now, and your breath comes out ragged.
“I’m sure I-” you start, but it comes out thick and raspy. You clear your throat and try again. “I’m sure I don't know what you mean,” you finally manage with all of the composure you can muster. He cocks an eyebrow at you, then slowly takes off those infuriating glasses.
“No? Then perhaps I’m mistaken, and your heart rate hasn’t increased by approximately 20 beats per second in the past few minutes.” His eyes continue boring into you. “And maybe that smell between your legs is completely unrelated.”
An undignified splutter comes out of you as you press your thighs closer together. He takes a half step back to let you respond.
“If I am indeed mistaken, then I’ve said my peace and you’re free to go.” The seductive honey is gone from his voice, and in its place is a politely professional tone. You fully feel that he’s giving you an out, that you can both laugh on this as an embarrassing moment and neither will bring it up ever again.
But on the other hand…
“You’re not mistaken,” you choke out in a whisper. The lazy smile is back and he lifts your chin with his index finger.
“What was that? Speak up.” His command weakens your knees and you wither under his gaze.
“You’re not wrong,” you say more boldly, trying to meet his energy. His smile broadens, and for the first time you notice two pointy fangs slip out beneath his upper lip.
Fucking
vampire??
That explains how he could track your heartbeat, and even more his ridiculously keen sense of smell. Doesn’t make it any less humiliating.
“No, I don’t suppose I am,” he snarls and suddenly he’s kissing you roughly, hands twisting in your hair and one knee sliding up between your legs. He pushes you against the door and lifts you off your feet slightly. You’re desperate just to keep up as he devours you, hands weakly grasping at his hips, shoulders, neck. But he’s fully in control of the kiss, and after a moment you let him take you.
He breaks the kiss but doesn’t pull away, and you’re both breathing heavily, air cycling between your lungs. Your head feels full of a thick fog and you can’t fully see straight. His hands are still in your hair, tight but not pulling - yet. You get the sense that might not last long.
He drops to his knees and you nearly double over from the sudden lack of support. He runs his nose and lips across the hem of your black denim skirt, inhaling again. Your fingers lace into his hair, but not even remotely in the dominant way from your fantasy. At this point you’re just trying not to collapse.
He looks up at you, flashing another fang-bearing grin. His hand slips up your skirt and his thumb runs across your pussy, barricaded by your sheer tights and panties.
“Darling, you’re positively soaked,” he hums contentedly. “You’d have a hard time hiding this from anyone.” You bite your lower lip, trying to keep the needy whines at bay. But when he fiercely rips the crotch of your tights and presses the flat of his tongue against the drenched gusset, you can’t stop the cry from escaping your throat. He sucks lasciviously, the debauched slurping noise ringing in your ears. Your knees buckle and he grabs hold of your hips, hiking your skirt up to your waist to get better access to your dripping cunt.
He stands and kisses you again, the taste of you lingering on
his lips. He grabs your ass and digs his fingers into your flesh, spreading them until you gasp into his kiss. In one fluid motion he sweeps up your legs and wraps them around his waist, carrying you over to that incredible mahogany desk.
He plops you down on the hardwood and you hear books and papers tumbling onto the floor behind you. He presses his bulge into your mound, this time the sound of both of your moans mingling pleasingly. He tears at your chiffon button down, trailing hungry kisses down your chest as you throw your head back in pleasure. He makes quick work of fully removing your top, though you’re certain he sacrificed some buttons in the process. You hardly care as you paw wantonly at the back of his neck, desperate for him to get his lips onto every single inch of you. He pulls the lace cup of your bra down with his teeth and starts sucking on your nipple, pressing his hand into the small of your back. You arch into him, his hands working you like a soft clay.
So much for the pleading mess that you pictured last night. Instead, you’re the one who's been reduced to shambles, begging for satisfaction.
“Puh-please,” you stutter, and those devilish eyes lock onto yours again. He snakes his way back up your chest and bites your lower lip.
“Puh-please what?” he mocks your stammering, but makes up for it when he rolls his hips forward, dragging that delicious hardness against you. You squirm, trying to pull him closer but he’s got your arms locked in his grip. His lips leave yours and ghost over the flesh of your neck. He very gently scrapes his fangs across your jugular, eliciting a ghoulish moan from you in return. By all the gods, you hadn’t even considered that as a part of it. His movement made it clear that he won’t bite unless you want him to.
But holy hells do you want him to.
“Gods Astarion,” you gasp, and you swear you can feel his cock twitch at the sound of his own name. “Fuck me then bite me, or the other way around I don’t care, but please get in me!” The string of words almost sounds foreign to your own ears, but you’re well beyond the point of trying to sound clever. In an instant, he’s undone his belt buckle and his erection springs forth, bouncing and already dripping precum. He roughly shoves your panties to the side and sinks his cock and teeth into you simultaneously, drawing out your cry of both pain and pleasure. You wrap your legs and arms around him, trying to pull him in deeper. You can feel his mouth filling up with your hot blood just as your cunt fills up with his dick.
You’re panting as you grow more lightheaded, clinging to his neck. Unthinkingly, your fingers stroke his ears, playing with those tiny silver hoops. He lurches and pulls away from your neck, looking absolutely feral with your blood dripping down his chin, which only sets you off more. You angle your hips toward him, trying to get him to start thrusting into you. He pushes your back down onto the desk and hooks his elbows beneath your knee high boots. Then he starts pounding into you properly, and you feel like you’re close to losing it. You grab onto the edge of the desk as he revs up his pace, his cock stretching you out as he keeps your legs close to your ears. You can feel the heat mounting in your core and you know it won’t be long before you come. But at this point you’re just trying to hold on for dear life.
“Fuck, gods, Astarion, I’m-” You finish before your sentence does. He doesn’t relent as the orgasm wracks your body, if anything, he fucks you harder. Just as you’ve barely come down off your climax, he pulls out and yanks you off the desk, spins you around and pushes your face down into the smooth mahogany, warmed from where you had just been. He enters you again, this time from behind, and already you’re working your way up to a second one. Your bare tits squish against the polished surface and he grabs your hair, pulling your head up and arching your back into him.
For the first time you notice the mirror on the opposite wall across from his desk. But rather than both of you, you only see yourself, disheveled and well-fucked, lips swollen from his abuse. Your hair is pulled up by an invisible force behind you. Another unexpected aspect of vampire fucking.
You desperately wish you could see his face because you can feel his thrusts getting more uneven and erratic. You try to turn to get a glimpse of him, but his grip on your hair remains tight. But even if you can’t see him, you can hear him, his grunts and the low string of incoherent swears pouring out of his mouth. The sound of him getting lost in you is enough, and your own moans start building and mixing with his, an utter symphony of epicurism.
His hips give a few more broken thrusts and you can feel his climax, setting off yours. The throbs of his cock match those wracking your cunt, and you hold onto the edge of the desk as the waves wash over you. Once they’ve come to an end he pulls out, and you can feel his semen dripping out of the sudden emptiness and running down your leg. You quietly say a thankful prayer for your IUD.
You’re both panting as he collapses onto your back, planting a half-hearted kiss on your spine. You weakly push yourself up off the desk and see the devastation of papers, smears and fluids. You turn yourself around and relish in his appearance. Your blood is splattered on his fine cream sweater, his usually perfectly coiffed curls damp and sticking to his forehead. You reach up and wipe the remainder of your blood off his chin. He smirks and kisses you, significantly more gently this time.
“That was good,” you murmur through steadying breaths, “but next time, keep the fucking glasses on.”

Arsenal Book Club || Katie McCabe x Reader
Tumblr media
masterlist I word count: 1897
With a satisfied smile Kim Little oversaw the little group of players who decided to stay after the Arsenal afternoon training to participate in the first meeting of the club’s book club: “Great, I think we’re complete now that means we can start.” “We’re more people than I expected.”, Leah Williamson admitted genuine. Next to her Lia Wälti had an amused smile on her lips: “Me too to be honest. Although some of us are more present than others.” The Swiss midfielder could not help but to nod into Noelle Maritz direction who was deep asleep using the stacked books as pillows.
Out of breath but with a huge grin on her face Katie McCabe crashed the peaceful scenery: “Hi guys, I hope you didn’t start without me.” “Katie, you were the last person I expected to come here!”, stunned Vivianne Miedema looked at one of her closest friends in the team. Playfully offended the irish woman asked:” What’s that supposed to mean?”  “I’ve never seen you reading.”, the Dutch striker replied laughing.
You’ve been quiet so far, holding the book club pick in your hands but you’d never miss a chance to mock Katie so you interfered into the conversation with a challenging grin: “You can read?” “You two are so rude. I’ll sit as far away from you as possible but at least I brought the most important thing with me.”, the brunette said, a mischievous look on her face. Her expression made Jen Beattie chuckle:“ Your book?” “No, the wine, Jen!”, the Irish midfielder rolled her eyes. She lived for the drama. “So that’s why you’re here.”, Beth Mead exclaimed delighted.
Innocently Katie looked around her teammates: “Is not that what book clubs are all about? Good company and wine?” “And talking about books, Katie.”, Leah reminded her. The Irish woman threw a cocky smile in the direction of the English defender:” Did you finish a book for once, Leah?” “Of course, I finished it.”, the vice-captain mumbled although her blushed cheeks were telling the truth that she didn’t. Her schedule was just too busy.
Already slightly frustrated about the fact that the evening did not go as planned, Kim groaned: ”Can we start now?” “Yes, please.”, Lia agreed motivated while trying to ignore Noelle’s snore who got louder with each minute that was passing by. Relived the captain sighed: ”Thanks. Wait, Manu that does not look like our book club pick?” “It’s, it’s just the German translation.”, the goalkeeper explained. Sceptical Leah glanced at the Austrian:” Why would you read it in German?” “That way I can understand it better.”, Manuela Zinsberger told them, her cheeks burning red.
Katie changed the topic, holding up a bottle of wine and gesturing towards some glasses; “So who of the ladies wants wine?“ Before anyone could answer, she flashed you a flirty grin; “Does the bookish missus want a glass?“ “Katie! We didn’t even start discussing the book!“, you admonished the midfielder but couldn’t suppress a smile. “So?“, she retorted. Rolling your eyes, you finally gave in, in hopes that this would shut her up; “Okay, fine. You can fill the glasses.“ “Was that so bad?“, she grinned, filling the glasses and handing the first one to you. To your surprise, she did let you have a conversation about the book for some time, during which she made a point to look extra bored. At some point, she got up and excused herself. Vivianne followed shortly after.
At the door to the bathroom, the dutch player stopped her; “Katie, you didn’t really come here for the books, right?“ Katie stood in front of the sink, washing her hands and gasped in feigned shock; “How did you find that out, Sherlock?“ “The way you look at her, Watson.“, Viv replied, arms crossed in front of her chest. The Irish midfielder shrugged unimpressed; “And? What if I say yes? Will you kick me out of your book club?“
A small smile appeared on Viviannes lips; “No. But do you want some advice?“ “No.“, Katie answered quickly which made her team mate frown in confusion. But then Viv just shrugged and stepped in Katies place to wash her hands; “Alright.“ “I can do that without your help.“ “I know but maybe you should try to her hobbies seriously.“, Viv suggested casually.Katie gestured around herself; “I do. That’s why I’m here.“ “That’s cute for your standards.“, Viv smirked. “Shut up, Miedema.“
The smile on the dutch players face only grew bigger, knowing she hit a nerve; “Let’s go back to the others.“ “I thought you wanted to wash your hands for the rest of the night.“, Katie nodded in the direction of the sink. Vivianne turned off the water; “Only until you admitted why you’re really here. Thankfully I can read you like a book.“ “No, you can only read books like a book.“, the Irish woman answered. Vivianne ignored the joke with a shake of her head; “False.“ “No, I don’t have text all over me.“ “You’re such an idiot.“,Viv replied with a mixture of annoyance and fondness before following Katie out of the bathroom.
The striker glanced curiously at the teammates when she was sitting down:” What did we miss guys?” Kim sighed frustrated:” We started to talk about Jen’s love life instead of our recent read.” “We didn’t even finish Leah’s excuses on why she was too busy to finish the book.”, Beth teased the blonde teammate. “She’s really a busy girl.”, you hummed. Immediately Leah started to defend herself while pouting:”I am! It’s not my fault.”
Innocently Katie turned to you:” Maybe you should tell us how do you make time for reading while having a busy schedule aswell.” “Or we could keep talking about Jen’s dating dilemma.”, you proposed the idea with a wink in the direction, of the older Scottish woman.  “Or we could finally start talking about the book”, Kim added already feeling her evening plan going of the rails tonight. Slowly you agreed:” Yes, that is an option too.” “Sounds boring.”, Katie mocked you two.
A big smile was on Beth’s lips as she nodded:“Honestly, especially because Jen’s dating stories are always so funny.”  “I give up. Katie, can you give me some more of your wine`”, the captain groaned, hiding her face in her hands. Motivated the Irish woman stood up:“I’ll gladly do that!” “Thanks. Cheers to you all .”, Kim mumbled with a defeated smile. A wide grin was on Katie’s face: “Cheers, captain!”
“Tell us some of them, please.”, Meado begged. Smirking the Scottish defender reassured her:“Yes, don’t worry I’ll.” Jen loved to tell the stories, everyone in the team knew that and they loved her art of storytelling. Playfully she scolded Katie and Kim:” Shut up you two. We’re trying to have a conversation.” “Tell them about your date last week.”, the captain demanded. Happily Jen shook her head:“No, I might see her again.”  “Wait, what?!”, Kim blurted out in surprise. The defender laughed because of her long time friend’s expression:“You heard me.” “Really?”
“That’s more interesting than the book, right`”, Katie leaned over to you with a cheeky grin. You rolled her eyes because of her comment: “Oh please.” “You can’t tell me, it’s not true.”, the Irish woman said. A small smile was on your lips while admitting:” Maybe I do enjoy a little bit of gossip here and there.” “I know you would.”, the midfielder triumphed. “You know that gossipy books exist too?”, you tried to remind her. “And what should they gossip about?” Confidently you told her:” I’m sure I could find a read for you which you could not be able to put down.”
“I’m sure you won’t be able to.“, Katie answered, shaking her head with conviction. You raised her eyebrows at her; “I disagree. We don’t live too far away from each other so maybe you can come with me after the book club ended and I can give you your book. The one that was just waiting for you all this time and you didn’t even know it.“ “Okay, fine. I’ll come with you.“, she answered faster than you expected. “Alright.“ Jen interrupted you two, calling for attention once again; “Guys, could you stop talking for a second. I’m here telling you my story.“
“Oh, you know, we were about to leave anyway.“, Katie grinned and drained the rest of her wine. You smiled apologetically at Jen; “Katie can’t wait to hold her book recommendation in her hands.“ “Pretty sure it’s not the book she wants to hold in her hands.“, Noelle mumbled with a yawn. “Oi, Noelle, we thought you were asleep!“, Beth yelled out in surprise. The Swiss defender grimaced; “That’s impossible with you all constantly talking.“ “That’s not true. You were sleeping at least in the beginning.“, Lia chimed in. The two Swiss players started discussing while Jen continued telling her dating stories and Kim rubbed the bridge of her nose in annoyance while you left with Katie.
To your surprise, your Irish team mate got a lot less annoying on your way back to your flat. You opened the door for the two of you and led Katie into the kitchen; “You can wait here and I’ll get you your next read.“ “Okay, I’ll wait.“ “Got it!“, you called from the living room when you finally found the perfect book and returned to the kitchen with it. Katie turned the book over in her hands; “Thanks.“ “You’re welcome.“, you smiled brightly. “So…“, Katie started as she carefully put the book down on the kitchen table. “Yes?“ “Now that we’re alone…“ The smile disappeared from your face but instead you gave your team mate a curious look; “Was Noelle right? That you’d like to…“ You couldn’t bring yourself to finish the sentence as Katie bridged the distance between you two. “I’d like to kiss you actually.“, she answered, more earnestly than she had been all evening.
With a challenging look you leaned forward; “Then what are you waiting for?“ “For you to give me the go.“, she explained, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Go on then.“ Without another word she pressed her lips on yours, kissing you passionately like it’s the only thing she wanted to do tonight.
When you woke up the next morning, you weren’t surprised to find Katie in your bed. You knew she stayed the night. What actually surprised you was the fact that she was reading in the book you gave her. “Wait. Am I still dreaming? Katie McCabe with a book in her hand?“ “It’s just for decoration. I’m trying to impress you.“, she replied fast but only reluctantly took her eyes off the page.
You smirked at that; “Yeah, it’s a pretty sight. But tell me is the model hungry?“ “Always.“, she laughed, so you got up, pulling an oversized shirt over your head and headed to the kitchen; “Breakfast will be ready soon.“ “I even get breakfast?“, the Irish midfielder asked in surprise. “Yes.“ “What a service.“, she teased.
You were just preparing the pancake better when you suddenly felt her strong arms around her waist; “I’m trying to cook here, McCabe.“ “Oh really?“, she laughed, her lips close to your ear. “Yes, or did you mean hungry in a different way?“, you asked. She replied by playfully biting the skin on your neck; “I meant it both ways.“

MC is pleasantly awoken by Ominis
Ominis x fem!MC
NSFW—sexual content
18-year-old Ominis and MC are eager to start their lives together after school, and on this particular morning, they are especially eager.
Word count: 2,963
Arrrgh I apologize this took so long, this time of year is crazy for me and it's difficult to write. :( I was inspired to write this by @tamayula-hl's art of Ominis and MC here. Please go look at her beautiful art, even if you've already seen it before 😌💚
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
A soft breeze sighed through the deep green leaves of summer trees. It carried sounds of crickets that floated in through the open window and settled in the warm room. MC’s skin tingled as she lay on her side, head propped up by an arm and legs demurely placed one atop the other. She was surrounded by overstuffed pillows, warm blankets and silky sheets. She was dimly aware of a gossamer shift that barely covered her from her chest and shoulders down to her hips. Each time she moved, the way the little gown caressed her warm hips and her firm nipples felt exquisite. She was far too distracted to be bothered by how revealing the dress was, however, because reclining next to her was her beloved Ominis Gaunt. He wore a rakish, loose white shirt with dark trousers and was busy running his fingers over the beguiling material of her tiny gown. His face was lifted up into a small smirk as he marveled at how one piece of clothing could be so small and cover so little. His starry eyes sparkled bright blue as his fingertips glided. Oh, how MC wished she could swim in those eyes.
"My beautiful wife," Ominis murmured, his voice melodic and sweet. "How fortunate that I have you all to myself. I can’t stop thinking about all the things I want to do to you, and this pretty little dress is not helping matters."
MC blushed and felt every word in the English language evaporate from her imagination. She could only manage a gentle, affectionate laugh in response.
MC reached up to stroke Ominis' immaculate blond hair. His eyes slid shut as he leaned into her hand and his lips parted. Silky gold strands slipped through MC's fingers as she drank in her husband’s beauty. Every feature of his angelic face was sheer perfection, from the beauty marks that decorated the side of his face to his striking eyelashes and his dramatic cheekbones. MC resisted the sudden urge to smother him with soft kisses. As much as she wanted to give in to the urge, she knew the subtle expression on Ominis’ face; he wanted more. He opened his eyes, now full of desire as his smile ever so slowly faded. His fingertips stroked up MC’s side, dragging the edge of the little dress upward a few more inches. His hand wandered up to her jawline and swept her face with his thumb until he found her lips. He leaned forward and pushed a tender kiss to them... and then another... and another. Each kiss betrayed his true desires, stoking a flame deep inside both of them. The kisses grew more forceful and audible until Ominis could resist no longer, and he gently rolled MC onto her back and hovered over her.
MC’s dress was now hiked up to her waist, completely exposing her lower half. She suddenly felt a tug at her hair. Ominis had grabbed a fistful to tilt her head back and gain access to her neck. She moaned Ominis' name as he traced his lips along an artery that flared to the beat of her fluttering heart. He parted his lips and let his tongue trail along while his knee unceremoniously pushed her legs apart and nestled against her bare core.
"Ominis," MC gasped as her hips bucked. He merely chuckled and pushed his knee harder against her, rolling it at a slow, steady rhythm. The fabric of his trousers felt indescribably satisfying against her soaked and needy core.
As her hips lifted from the soft bed beneath them both, Ominis tugged upwards at MC's dress. He dragged it up her body, delighting in her little moans and giggles as the fabric brushed over her skin. Ominis hungrily pressed his mouth to her naked skin as he pushed the clothing away, letting his warm breath fan out across her stomach, then her hip, then up her side to her ribs.
"All mine," Ominis breathed as the minuscule dress bunched under MC’s arms. "Every inch of your beautiful body is mine to do with as I please."
MC whimpered and rutted against Ominis' knee again. He began his descent back down her body, planting small kisses as he went, as if to remind her in case she ever forgot what they felt and sounded like.
Suddenly, the world around MC began to melt to nothingness, and she became disappointingly aware of the fact she had been dreaming.
"Good morning," Ominis murmured. His lips scarcely left her legs as he warmly greeted MC.
MC blinked the sleep from her eyes and became aware of Ominis kissing up and down her thighs, separated from her skin by only her single layer of undergarments. She had been lying on her back, and Ominis had been overcome by his affection for her; he gently held her knees up with each hand as he kissed up and down each soft limb. She tried to move but found herself tangled in robes and blankets—and Ominis—on a large, overstuffed couch. Surrendering to the bind of clothing and her sweetheart, she let a smile curl her lips upwards as she enjoyed the affection Ominis heaped upon her. She began to recall details of falling asleep on his warm chest in the Room of Requirement the night previous.
MC had been trying to remember if they had been studying or had simply found a quiet place to mutter sweet nothings and hold each other tight when she felt the brush of her undergarments against her thighs. She looked down at Ominis who was dragging warm, heavy kisses down her thighs. She reached out to lovingly stroke at one of his hands beneath her knees and take in the sight of him.
Ever the prim young gentleman, Ominis had likely been up for some time and had already combed his hair back in place. He was wearing a smart vest and slender trousers—the kind of trousers that easily betrayed his desires when he was in the company of his young lady.
"Did you sleep well, my love? I heard you muttering. I do hope you were having pleasant dreams," Ominis said between kisses.
"I—yes," MC answered softly. A blush rose in her cheeks until she was sure even Ominis could detect the heat in her face.
"What did you dream in that pretty head of yours?" he mumbled into her leg.
"We... were married," MC shyly replied. Ominis paused, and MC glimpsed a sweet smile on his face as he imagined an entire lifetime together with MC. "We had the most beautiful, luxurious bed, and..."
"Yes?" Ominis urged as he resumed his affection. "Don't stop now—I enjoy where this is headed."
MC giggled and nudged at his shoulder playfully. "It was a warm summer night. I could hear crickets. You were wearing such a handsome shirt and pair of trousers. And you had just begun to take a tiny dress off of me."
Ominis groaned. His kisses had stopped entirely, and he was enraptured by her words. "Exactly how tiny?"
MC took one of Ominis' hands from her knee and guided it up to the side of her hip where her uniform skirt hugged her figure, wrinkled from a night of being curled up on a couch in Ominis’ arms. Ominis' hand skated to her front, and he imagined how truly little the dress had covered.
Ominis sighed sharply. "Dear Merlin—if such a dress exists, I need you in it.”
MC smiled and cupped his jaw in her hand. “Perhaps someday I’ll just have to wear such a thing for you.”
Ominis resumed kissing MC with renewed enthusiasm. “Then I greatly anticipate the day... just one more reason why I cannot wait to be done with school next month so I may make you my wife.”
MC sighed blissfully and leaned back into the cushions supporting her head. “We’ve been waiting for two years, yet it feels like a lifetime. I can’t wait to have our own house where I may come home every evening to fall into your arms and make the sweetest of love.”
MC quietly gasped as Ominis nipped at the inside of her thigh. He smiled with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. “Then we had better start practicing, hadn’t we?”
Ominis reached up to the waist of MC's skirt to grip it lightly. His question was silent, but clear.
MC beamed, squeezing his hand affirmatively. “You’ll take any excuse to get me out of my clothes, won't you?”
Ominis chuckled and slid her skirt and undergarments over her hips. “Only because you’re irresistibly beautiful.”
The fabric tickled her skin delightfully as Ominis teasingly slid her clothing down her thighs and finally dragged them along her shins until he gracefully pulled them off completely and tossed them to the floor.
MC could feel she had been aroused for far longer than she had been awake. Arousal was dripping from her core. Ominis noticed it too as he ran the backs of his fingers up between her legs and leaned down to her ear.
“You’re so pretty, my little hummingbird,” Ominis whispered. “And so eager, too. You’re practically dripping, and we’ve only just begun.”
Ominis skated his free hand down the inside of her thigh until it came to rest over her warm core. MC gasped quietly.
Ominis leaned back and touched his lips to MC’s knee as softly as he could manage before dragging them down MC’s thigh. She groaned as his practiced lips trailed fiery need in their wake. By stark contrast, each soft exhale was like delicate snowfall over her skin. She moaned Ominis’ name as his mouth wandered closer to the base of her thigh.
In his typical mischievous fashion, Ominis diverted himself and began kissing up her abdomen. Her hips bucked once as she moaned. Merlin, this boy knew what he was doing and exactly how to make her wait for what she wanted.
Ominis chuckled and ran the tip of his tongue up to her stomach. MC’s chest flared violently, and she gripped his hair in a fist.
“So soft and sweet,” Ominis murmured into her skin. “And so sensitive.”
On cue, goosebumps rolled over MC’s body, and she began quietly panting. Ominis only chuckled and gave her a teasing smile.
“Where is it that you want my lips, my beautiful little hummingbird?” he asked liltingly against her skin. “Wherever you desire is where I shall put them—all I ask for in return is your most sordid little noises.”
“I want you between my legs,” MC gasped. “I promise I’ll be good, Ominis, please.”
Ominis appeared satisfied and trailed more slow and tender kisses back down her abdomen. He smiled against her smooth skin as he finally delved between her legs. His lips softly touched her entrance: one of his favorite secret little places to which only he and MC were allowed. He flicked his tongue once and heard MC whisper his name and grip his hair tighter. He rose back up with her arousal on his lips and made a show of hungrily licking them. MC would have kissed him if she were close enough.
“Louder,” Ominis smirked as his head dipped again. He kissed her core over and over and gently nibbled at her. MC moaned again and felt her face light up a bright red.
Ominis smiled and gently spread her further with his thumbs. His kisses grew louder as he worshipped her soaked core. His tongue coyly snaked out and probed for any spot that made her gasp as he lapped at her arousal.
“So beautiful,” Ominis mumbled. “I wonder how I’ll make you cum this time…”
MC whimpered. The sound reverberated in sync with her hips rolling up into Ominis’ mouth. She gently placed a hand over her mouth in embarrassment.
“Such a good, obedient girl,” Ominis crooned. “Just like that. Let me hear how aroused you really are by my tongue.”
Ominis explored and prodded at everything he could reach, all while MC gasped and whimpered, gripping his hair to keep him firmly in place. The soft, warm tip of his tongue stroked up to the left of her eager clit, over the top and down the right side before closing his lips over the needle little organ and gently sucking. MC nearly screamed his name as she begged him for release. He couldn’t help but flick at her with his tongue as he did, and MC cried out loudly enough for her voice to ring in their ears for a moment afterwards. MC whimpered in embarrassment, but Ominis felt around for her hand and squeezed it reassuringly as he released a moan of his own. Her arousal dripped down onto the blankets underneath her.
Ominis pulled his lips away and licked them. “Like a beautiful little rose bud,” he murmured. “You taste incredible.”
“Ominis, I—oh, please don’t stop,” MC panted.
The young couple had been treating each other to this kind of affection for months now, yet each time Ominis had his head between her legs, it felt like the first time all over again.
The flat of Ominis' tongue massaged her in large, smooth circles that made MC buck her hips. She whimpered and tangled her fingers in his hair.
Ominis’ tongue stopped, and he began to speak with his lips still pressed to her.
“So what will it be, darling? Shall I tease your cute little clit, massaging you until you’re begging me for permission to cum, or shall I give you my fingers and let you desperately fuck my hand like the good little slut you are?”
“Anything,” MC panted, heavily distracted. “Just make me cum—please.”
Ominis gave a thoughtful smile. “Perhaps you’ve earned both. You’ve been so good for me, telling me all about your dirty little dream, making me want you in that tiny dress and making all sorts of beautiful noises.”
Before MC could respond, Ominis leaned down and took tiny licks of her clit as if he were tasting the sweetest candy. Each little stroke pulled another tiny whimper from MC. Her entire body twitched slightly as she felt her slowly approaching climax. Ominis’ fingers pushed their way inside her and began pumping. MC arched her back and nearly shouted.
The wet sound of his fingers excited him, and a deeply intense expression clouded his face.
“I want you to look at me,” Ominis growled. “Look at how eagerly you spread your legs for me and me alone, my tongue on your pretty little cunt as you take my fingers inside you. I want you to remember this so you’ll always know what your pretty moans and the intoxicating taste of your arousal do to me... you would do well to remember who your perfect clit and delicious arousal belong to.”
MC was panting as Ominis took another languid stroke up her core and pumped his fingers deeper into her. She felt her abdomen begin to coil tightly, and her grip on his hair tightened as moans once again escaped her lips and echoed off the walls of the Room of Requirement.
“Ominis, please—" she gasped.
“Cum for me, darling,” Ominis purred seductively. “Be a good girl, now, and clench around my fingers.”
MC was no match for Ominis’ honeyed words and the curling of his fingers inside her, and her back arched again as she crescendoed into wave after wave of pure pleasure.
“Oh, yes—Ominis, oh—don’t stop…” she gasped. Ominis growled deeply, stubbornly holding pressure on her clit and against her walls until she slowly came back down.
Finally, after what felt like a blissful eternity, MC's breaths slowed as her euphoria came to a satisfying end. Ominis withdrew his fingers and licked them clean, taking care to make a show of how much he loved the taste. MC felt a pleasant tingling deep inside her as she watched him, her body reluctant to fully come down from orgasm.
In her hazy afterglow, MC gently pulled at Ominis' clothes, and he slid up to rest his entire weight upon her. Small waves of residual pleasure coursed through her veins as she stroked Ominis' hair while he laid his head on her chest.
"Is my little hummingbird's appetite finally quelled?" Ominis teased.
"For now," MC sighed, allowing her eyes to slide shut. "I think we need to sleep here more often if this is how we start our morning."
Ominis chuckled and slowly pushed himself to a sitting position. MC pouted for a moment at losing her source of warmth and love until she caught the sound of rustling clothing. She looked down at Ominis again to find he was undoing the front of his trousers. MC could already see part of his hardened manhood trying to break free of its confines.
MC raised her eyebrows in interest. "Well, hello there," she murmured as she sat up and reached forward to affectionately stroke Ominis’ beautiful cock with the backs of her fingers. “It seems you need some attention, too.”
Ominis sighed blissfully at her touch. He allowed himself to be guided down onto his back by MC and practically melted as her fingers delicately wrapped around his length.
“Wait…” Ominis suddenly said as his hand reached out to gently touch MC’s. “Do you need anything before we continue? Breakfast? Some water? You only woke up a short time ago.”
MC smiled and pressed a small kiss to Ominis’ tip. He groaned and nearly forgot what he had just said.
“I can wait,” she replied playfully.
“It might be a while,” Ominis muttered with his own smirk.
“I don’t mind—something tells me I’ll get to have an appetizer before we head down for breakfast together,” MC said with a mischievous smile.

late drunk talks|m.riddle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: You and Pansy going to the party with a twist but you ended up sober and a little sad.
parings: Mattheo x fem!reader, Draco x Pansy
warnings: Bad grammar, drinking, smoking, kinda angst
word counts: 1900
author's note: Ignore all grammar mistakes bc English is not my first language. Also my best friend broke up with his gf and his gf told me that she's going to cheat on him but get together after two days later. So they kinda gave me idea for this.
Tumblr media
“Come on Pansy, a little party never killed nobody” I said as I entertained our dorm.
I hated seeing her like this after the breakup. Her messy hair, makeup smudged all over her eyes. Always crying and never smiling. I can’t deny that she loved Draco more than anything but he couldn’t ruin her any more. I walked up to her and lifted her head.
“Just one party, so you can show him his loss” I tried to convince her.
“Y/n do we really have to do that” she asked. I looked at her and she knew that I’m not gonna let up on her.
“We’re going to have so much fun and since it’s a Halloween party you can dress as slutty as it’s possible.” I told her. “But I’m dressing as an unknown slut because I want to spend the whole night with you.”
“Thanks.” she said while hugging me.
I couldn’t say that I feel responsible for what happened because I persuaded boys to have their nights while I spent the whole night with Pansy and it turned out that Draco cheated on her.
“Let’s get ready if we want to look like something,” she said.
After some time me and Pansy were looking at our reflections in the mirror. “Wow you look like not you” Pansy claimed. “You really did a great job because I wouldn’t recognize you sober, not to talk about being under the influence” she added.
“I tried my best,” I told her.
She was right. I put on a red haired wig, did my red lips which I was never doing this way and put on the most revealing top I had. My matching tattoo with Pansy was visible which only me and Pansy knew about since we did it on that fucking night. I didn’t have occasion to show it to Mattheo because Pansy was more important at that time. So I could proudly say that even I didn’t recognize myself.
“But let’s talk about you. You look like the reason why Draco is going to regret even more that mistake he did” I complimented her.
“You think so,” she asked while pushing her boobs even more. She looked delightful in this claret mini dress.
“I’m not blind” I said.
She screamed and this was probably the first time she smiled in the last few days.
“I think I did too much by wearing this skirt” I said as we’re walking to the club because I had to lower it every 5 minutes .
“Shut up and put on your  mask already” she commanded me while she was dragging me.
But I could swear that by every step my ass was visible but does it really matter if Pansy was happy.
“Are you ready?” I asked her as we’re standing in front of the club. She just dragged me inside.
Music was blasting too loud and there were drunk people and alcohol everywhere. But I missed this feeling when our group was going out to party. I was walking behind Pansy which was almost running to the bar.
Alcohol sometimes was healing wounds and sometimes was fixing relationships. But most of the time alcohol ruins everything.
I was looking for Mattheo because we didn’t spend much time together lately. He was comforting Draco and I was comforting Pansy. I saw Theo with a random girl which wasn’t anything new. Blaise was standing near the wall with Draco. Malfoy was wasted and Zabini was telling him something. Lorenzo was dancing and Mattheo was just a wallflower but he was smoking as usual. He looked so pretty and I wanted to run and hug him but instead Pansy gave me a drink. I could tell this night couldn’t just end up good. After endless measures of alcohol and dance I took Pansy outside. I needed to smoke.
“How do you feel?” I asked Pansy while giving her lighter.
“Like I was reborn, I missed this feeling” she responded while inhaling a cigarette.
“I’m glad that you’re happy after all” I said and put my head on her shoulder. “ Drunk cig is the best thing in the whole world,” I added.
This night was so peaceful. The moon was shining, a cold wind was whipping all over my body but it didn’t matter. It was just me and Pansy against the world. I felt relieved that it’s going to be okay, everything will be as it used to be. And then he came. He ruined this moment. Draco fucking Malfoy and Blaise who was trying to stop him. But Draco always got what he wanted, no matter what. Sometimes alcohol makes us do what we don’t want to do sober. I looked at Pansy and she became so pale, and I could already see that her eyes had become watery.
“Y/n leave us alone, and take Blaise with you” she whispered.
I took her mask and I got up. I looked at her last time then I walked up to Blaise. I pushed him and gave him Pansy’s mask. “Stay there and give it to Pansy when they’re done” I said and inside the club. I headed to the bar and ordered myself another drink. Then I walked up to Mattheo.
“You must love your girlfriend so much,” I claimed.
“How do you know I even have one?” he asked and smiled.
“You came to the club, you’re being a wallflower and you ignore every girl that tries to do anything with you” I stated.
“I didn’t know that Pansy had a new friend,” he said.
“Because I’m not her new friend. I just met her while I was going there” I responded to him and took a sip from my drink. Just don’t break the character.
“Yeah, I love her more than anything” he sighed, then he took a photo from wallet. It was our photo. “She's just so great. I don’t know what I did in my previous life but I don’t deserve her. She’s so kind and takes care not only for me but for our friends. Maybe she’s doing that because nobody ever did that for her. She’s like a guardian angel. Always know what to do or what to tell when life sucks. She’s making our life better even though she doesn't have a good life. She’s smart without even trying, and so lovely. I love it when she comes to my dorm and just starts talking because I usually don’t know what to say. She fills the void in my life, even when she’s saying random facts about things I’ve never heard of. Y/n is just like a Sun. I wish she was here tonight because in the past few days we didn’t spend so much time with each other and I miss her” he added. But something about him was off. It didn’t feel right because he wasn’t the kind of man who would say things like this. Not even drunk.
“You don’t look happy” I said because he wasn’t happy when he told me this.
“Because I’m not, I hurt her so much” he responded. And at that moment my heart dropped.
Don’t break the character.
“If you hurt her, why is she with you?” I asked and looked at the photo once again.
“I didn’t tell her, I just can’t hurt her even more,” he responded.
“Then tell me, so maybe you will feel better” I said while he was passing me a cigarette.
“Y/n and I had awful fight. So I did what I do the best and I drank. I drank to much and got into a fight. She was nowhere to clean my wounds, tell me nice things, just comfort me. This random girl came to me. She looked so much as Y/n and she comforted me. And that's the part where I hurt her. That's the part where I start hating myself. I kissed that girl. It  wasn't something intimate or valid to me. I break the kiss right after I kissed her but I still fucked up. This few fucking second wasn’t worth it at all. I don't know what I'm supposed to do” he said but I could tell it was a relief to him.
My eyes became watery and I wanted to hit him, not once, not twice, I wanted to just hit till somebody pulled me away. The only man I’ve ever loved turned out to be just like any other man. At that moment he ruined everything. I wanted to tell him something but I was so close to start crying so I just inhaled a cigarette. I looked again at our photo. We were so happy… I was so happy. Just me and him at Black Lake on our anniversary date. I was too bustling looking at this photo and I didn’t spot Pansy and Draco coming to us. Together. And then she ruined everything. She was happy and drunk so she didn’t care anymore of me and Mattheo being together.
“Y/n” she screamed “Me and Draco get back together”
“Y/n” Mattheo whispered and tried to touch me but I was already walking to Pansy.
“I’m so happy, but now I need to clear my head. And tomorrow I’m going to kill you and Draco for all this” I told her while hugging her. I tried so hard not to cry but she was too drunk to notice anything. She just waved at me and I got lost in the crowd.
I was sliding through the crowd, while taking off my mask and wig. My eyes were burning but I couldn’t cry here. I couldn’t cry on Mattheo’s eyes. He doesn’t get the view of me being like this. All of a sudden I was sober. Alcohol vanished into thin air just like my happiness. The only thing that had left was this fucking photo. I walked outside and a cold wind smashed my bare shoulders, but I didn’t care and he touched my hand. His touch, once so warm now, was even colder than the wind.
“Y/n wait. Don’t go. Love I’m…” Mattheo said.
“Don’t call me love, you lost everything to call me this” I chopped him off.
“Don’t say this” he responded and tried to hold my face in his arm but I shifted away.
“How long you wanted to keep this. You tell this random girl but you can’t even look at me now” I told him. But his eyes were telling me everything. I snorted because I didn’t care what I’m going to do next.
“You see how happy we were back then” I said and showed him a photo. “I hope that you’re going to remember that because it’s not going to happen anymore.” I screamed and mussed the photo just to throw it in his face.
I started walking, completely ignoring his calling out. I didn’t care anymore. I couldn’t care anymore about the man that broke my heart. I didn’t care. I didn’t care that I left the love of my life in the middle of the road. I didn’t care that I ruined the only thing that has left from the time I was happy in the middle of the road.
Alcohol sometimes was healing wounds and sometimes was fixing relationships. But most of the time alcohol ruins everything.

Connecting to the Tree of Souls was always bittersweet for Tsu'tey.
Eywa was a kind mother. For a few short moments, he could be reunited with everyone he had previously lost. He could ask Eytukan for guidance on being Olo’eyktan, or speak with Sylwanin when his grief threatened to overwhelm him.
And other times, Eywa would gift him a glimpse into a vision that could’ve been his reality, if events had played out differently.
The phantom of HomeTree was booming with life. Those who lived there were distant and concealed from view by the colossal roots of the great tree or simply occupying the foliage beyond its shade. Tsu’tey found himself sitting upon a log, his knife in hand which he was using to shape an arrow head.
A fire roared at his feet, meat cooking over the flames whilst the joyous yells of children darted to and fro behind his turned back. He couldn’t help but smile softly to himself, reminded of the early years in Spider’s development when the boy had finally grown large enough to comfortably fit into an exo pack. Tsu’tey had been delighted, eager to take his son from the confines of the demon compound and let him loose on the clan.
Spider took to the outside like an ikran to the sky. Staring in wonder as Tsu’tey carried him into the heart of the village. Na’vi of all stations had cooed at him, offering Tsu’tey honest congratulations even if their eyes had held poorly concealed hesitance at the toddler giggling against his chest.
Within the hour, Spider had become fast friends with Jake’s children - Eywa help him - and was gleefully dirtying his loincloth as they tumbled and played.
“He has grown significantly.” A voice to his left suddenly commented, ripping Tsu’tey from his private musings. He made to turn to whoever was sat with him, but some untold force kept his gaze glued to the arrowhead he was carving.
“Children tend to.” Tsu’tey responded easily, the English falling thick and accented off of his tongue.
His secret companion merely hummed, leaning into his side. Tsu’tey caught sight of blue skin in his peripheral. Five fingered hands falling to demon style clothed knees. His expression tightened. Confusion swirling beneath his skin.
“A mighty warrior in the making.” The stranger praised, undercurrents of pride lacing their tone. “I am glad his aim has greatly improved.”
Tsu’tey lifted his gaze from the arrowhead as the words registered. His questioning response was halted by the sudden absence of the clan chatter and the crackling of the flames at his feet. His eyes flickered, expressing softening as he realised the scenery had changed.
Now, he and his companion sat on a tree branch overlooking the Omaticaya flight range. Targets lined the far perimeter, whilst na’vi of all ages stood in uniformed rows at increasing distances from the targets, their bows drawn. Tsu’tey’s gaze immediately zeroed in on Spider.
Here he was about twelve, Neteyam alongside him as the two practised in companionable silence. Despite being a full year younger, Neteyam easily towered over the older boy, his frame lean and long, whilst Spider had grown strong and thick in the shoulders. His son held his bow with ease, the strain long having lessened with hours of practice.
The presence at his side had shrunk somehow. The warmth no longer reached his shoulder. A soft brush of skin to his lower bicep indicating that the na’vi who had sat with him had shrunk to a more human stature.
Tsu’tey could not place who this was. They did not sound like Grace Augustine who possessed both avatar and human forms on the off chance she visited him in the tree. Nor had he befriended any of the scientists who possessed avatar bodies.
A celebratory whoop drew his attention back to Spider, who was receiving awed high fives from Neteyam. Glancing to the target, Tsu’tey swelled with pride at the three perfect bullseyes.
He blinked, and he was in the old shack. Although in his present the stolen compound was overrun with wildlife and had fallen into disrepair, here, it looked well preserved. As fresh and disorganised as it had been the night the humans left for good.
It looked homely.
Lived in.
He was sitting on a bunk much too small for his large frame with a baby carrier strapped across his chest. His son was nowhere to be seen in this particular vision, but as always, he felt no sense of panic within Eywa’s care. He simply observed the small room around him, noting that the presence at his side had disappeared with the flight range.
The messy sheets he sat on told of a good night’s rest. The military boots neatly lined up by the door and the camouflage jacket hanging on the back of it, reassuring him that whoever he was visiting was close by.
Tucked under the window, the desk was a mess of coffee stained reports and various pens. Even from the other side of the room, he could make out the shakily written na’vi phrases repeated over several pages. He’d never seen his language written out before, since his people had no use for it, but somehow he instinctively knew the phrases.
Oel ngati kameie.
I see you.
Three words his mate had been practising behind his back. A secret he was very much aware of, but content to allow them to figure out.
The sound of the door opening drew his attention from the desk, and he found said mate looming in the doorway, their son cradled to their chest. They looked exhausted but proud of themselves. Spider was sound asleep, nestled into their tanktop, with one chubby fist clenched tightly around the courting necklace Tsu’tey had presented them with several moons ago.
“I finally got him to drop off.” His mate sighed happily as they stepped further into the room and quietly pulled the door closed behind them.
Tsu’tey could only hum. Greedily drinking in the sight of his mate and son. Gazing at the face that had been snatched from his too early, and the youth and innocence of Spider. He was sixteen now, years past infancy, but still Tsu’tey’s little boy. Whilst his mate was frozen in time. Forever held by Eywa.
“You good big guy?” The use of that ridiculous nickname snapped him back to the present. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
His lips stretched into a tight smile. The irony.
“I am fine.” He insisted. His english heavily accented and rusty from disuse. Since Spider had become fully fluent in na’vi, he hardly ever had to use the demon tongue. But somehow, Eywa always switched them back to that language, despite having learnt plenty of na’vi through him.
Their proud grin dropped a fraction, their eyebrows drawing together. “Are you lying to me?”
He scoffed. “Olo’eyktan’s do not lie.” He said simply.
“You aren’t Olo’eyktan here.” They argued. Approaching him on quiet feet.
Feeling called out, Tsu’tey had to work hard to keep his ears from flicking back in guilt. Instead, he chose not to respond as his mate stepped into his space. Their scent wafted over him as they expertly manoeuvred the slumbering infant into the net tied across Tsu’tey’s chest. The motion was practised; familiar in a way his mate hadn’t had time to master.
Spider went easily. Instinctively curling into his father’s warmth and finding something new to latch onto. This time, Tsu’tey was not fast enough to keep his son from grabbing onto one of his braids. Even in sleep, Spider yanked hard on the braided lock of hair, making Tsu’tey wince. His mate chuckled softly, reaching up to carefully untangle Spider’s fist, to which the infant immediately curled his fingers around their index instead.
The scene was domestic. Something he had mourned when his mate had passed.
“You look tired.” His mate stated, those eyes studying his expression.
Tsu’tey could only nod. What use was lying to a memory anyway?
“I am.”
“You should rest.”
They titled their head, and Tsu’tey knew this was a battle he had no hope of winning. “Spider is waiting for you.” They said.
Carefully, they raised their free hand to hold his cheek, their expression worried. He leaned into the touch, savouring the warmth of their tiny hand against his cool skin.
His words were slow to come back to him. But they waited patiently, idly tracing the stars of his freckles as he gathered himself, his breathing uneven. “No. I want to stay here, with you.”
There was a power behind their words now. A greater knowledge they should not be privy to. Tsu’tey knew this wasn’t his mate speaking to him anymore. Despite looking and sounding like his human, this was Eywa gently nudging him. Reminding him that he had responsibilities to attend to and a son waiting beyond her realm.
He followed his mate’s nod towards the window where he found a sixteen year old Spider standing patiently at the treeline, looking longingly towards the compound. He knew without looking down that the infant was gone from the sling at his chest. His son wore his exopack and was wringing his hands, head darting too and fro in search of someone. Rocking on the balls of his feet as often did when unsettled.
Tearing his gaze from his son, Tsu’tey found and held eye contact with the Great Mother disguised as his lost mate. “Will you allow him to visit today?” He asked.
“He will See soon.” Eywa replied in their voice, untold power building behind every word.
His mate’s hands were small but strong as they took him by the wrists and helped him rise from his seat on the bed. “He is waiting.” They informed him, gently guiding him away from the desk littered in papers and towards the closed door. Tsu’tey’s heart ached at the familiar gesture. This part was always the hardest.
“He misses them.” He told Eywa and she could only nod in acknowledgement. “He watches their video logs.” He insisted, stomach sinking at the thought of his mate not knowing how badly Spider loved and missed them. That they might believe they had faded from the child’s memory, when in truth they’d always played such a crucial role. “He asks about them, always. Demanding memories, facts. Anything.”
“He will See soon.” Eywa repeated, and Tsu’tey knew she understood.
They squeezed his hand and he realised he was standing before the door with the boots neatly lined up beside it. He glanced at them one last time, absorbing all their little details and committing them to memory. His mate smiled at him one last time, before they dropped his hands and stepped back.
“I know.”
“You will See soon.” Eywa assured him, but Tsu’tey was no Tsahik and did not understand how to interpret the phrase. So he simply nodded.
>_<
They said no more as he raised his hand to push the door open, and in kind, Tsu’tey could only nod as his words got lost in his throat. Instead of responding, he turned and stepped out of the bedroom into the hall.
The sounds of the forest came back to him slowly. He felt the change of the humidity as Eywa gently returned him to his body. He sat crossed legged under the glowing vines of the Tree of Souls, his heartbeat still pounding in time to the gentle pulses of the ancient tree. Animals moved in the bushes behind him, uncaring of his presence and content to go about their evening.
He felt the familiar dry, flaky sensation of mourning paint running from the top of his brow down the line of his nose to his chin. His bullet scars felt stiff against his skin with every deep breath. Whilst a body leant into his side. Small and warm in a way that na’vi were not.
Slowly, Tsu’tey peeled his eyelids open and glanced down to find Spider curled into him. His exopack was digging uncomfortably into Tsu’tey’s ribs, but he didn’t care. Now sixteen, his boy leaned into his side and had dragged Tsu’tey’s arm out of his lap to rest across his back. Keeping him safe and secure whilst his father communed with the ancestors.
His tail swayed happily at the adorable sight.
Sensing a shift in him, Spider groggily raised his head from Tsu’tey’s rib cage. His eyes were unfocused as he lifted his heavy head, only to find Tsu’tey already looking at him. He blinked slowly, drawing in a deep breath as he stretched and sat up.
<”Who was it today?”> Spider asked in fluent na’vi, his tone heavy with sleep.
Tsu’tey felt the corner of his mouth stretch upwards into an adoring smile. His boy was so precious. <”Zaza.”> He replied simply, to which Spider returned his smile.
<”It is late.”> Spider agreed, to which Tsu’tey playfully ruffled his braids, ears pricked at the boy’s mischievous grin. Carefully, Tsu’tey reached up and disconnected his kuru from the tree, sending a prayer of thanks to Eywa for her gift.
<”And where did you end up going?”>
<”The old shack.”> Tsu’tey replied simply, reaching up to disconnect his tswin from the Tree of Souls. <”They were trying to convince you to go to bed.”>
<”We should return to the village.”>
<”Only if you carry me.”> Spider stated, lifting his arms expectantly to Tsu’tey who rolled his eyes.
<”You have been hanging around Lo’ak too much. So whiny.”>
<”You are old enough to carry yourself.”>
<”But it’s late!”> Spider retaliated.
<”Don’t let him hear you say that or he’ll become ten times worse.”> Considering the boy was Jake’s son, Tsu’tey didn’t doubt it.
>_<
The last thing you remembered was lying down in a link unit.
The smell of silicone had been poisonously strong in the tight space as one of the scientists closed the lid on you with a firm click. Your heart had been pounding, your plan to escape and meet up with Jake plaguing your mind. Distracting you from the half assed explanation of why Selfridge had ordered all military personnel into the link rooms.
You weren’t sure if you made it out of Hell’s Gate that night, let alone if Trudy had managed to drive you to the secret compound. If you’d been caught, or if your squad had noticed your absence.
Not that any of it mattered now, considering you were in outer space and the Battle for The Tree of Souls had ended fifteen years prior.
Now, you stared blankly at the pre-recorded video of yourself in that same laboratory. In the video, you were decked out in your usual, military attire and were horribly explaining what was going on. Floating in zero gravity, your hand - now blue and much, MUCH bigger than you were used to - kept you in place before the monitor with an unnervingly tight grip.
The you of the past wasn’t focused on their task. You could tell from the shift of their eyes as marines moved around them behind the camera. In a similar situation, your nerves were also all over the place. Your eyes were constantly darting around the small bunk room as your tail thrashed. So many enemies in such a small place.
It had been a fucking shock to wake up disoriented on a small hospital bed with a heart monitor beeping away in the background. Only for a massive, blue forehead to dart into your line of sight, dragging with it, a pair of large, unblinking eyes. You screamed, flailing weakly at the enormous bald head of Lyle Wainfleet.
You recalled blinding rage in your most recent memory of this man.
He had grinned at you, yelling loudly, “morning Private!”
You had punched him, that past anger carrying over as you shoved him away with an additional well placed kick to the stomach and a ferocious hiss. Movement in the corner of your vision kept you from following him down, intending to choke the life out of his stupid, grinning face.
Alexander had been quick to grip your bicep, holding on tightly. He was smiling at you. And it was fucking disorientating to see his face on a na’vi body, his eyes too far apart and his nose flatter than you were used to. It stunned you into stillness.
On the floor, Lyle had chuckled good naturedly and complimented you on your improved strength.
You hadn’t responded, your eyes widening as you took in your reflection in the one way window. It was you, but it also wasn’t you staring back.
On the monitor, the human version of you scratched the back of their neck, clearly reading off of a script to the side of the camera, blurting some bullshit about the RDA storing your memories and implanting them in an avatar embryo. Your expression remained neutral as you glanced down to past-you’s throat.
Mostly hidden beneath the hem of their camouflage shirt, you caught sight of a pretty little choker, the polished beads catching the laboratory lights. It was simple in design, layered three times tall with long, brown beads as the centrepiece, framed either side by carefully selected circular red beads.
Subconsciously, your blue hand reached to your own throat, frowning at the naked skin only for your fingers to catch on the metal chain of your dog tag. It sent a stab of phantom pain through your chest, which you were quick to rub away.
You remembered who had given it to you. What he had been to you. But you didn’t know how it had ended. If the RDA had resurrected you for this stupid little project, then chances were, the human version of you was dead.
You had no idea who had died during the Battle of The Tree of Souls - clearly a lot of you judging by the number of recoms the RDA had paid for. There was no solid knowledge on how far the RDA had won, or how much of Pandora they had destroyed. For all you knew, everyone could be dead. The Omaticaya clan wiped off the face of the planet.
The windows of your little bunk room overlooked the vast embryo tanks of the recoms. As you half-listened to the video, you watched a trio of three scientists carefully extracting the body, of who you recognised to be the na’vi version of Mansk, from the closest tank. They took great care in cleaning the embryonic fluid from his airways before flying the body out of sight through an open door.
/Remember Private,/ the video stated, drawing your attention back once more, /the mission is not over./ There was something unreadable in human you’s eyes, their rage momentarily broadcasted across the screen. /Fight hard. Make me proud./
They couldn’t see you, but you found yourself nodding anyway.
Those words gave you a direction. Past you didn’t believe the fight was over, so you just had to pick up where you left off. And to do that, you needed to get back into the forest.
>_<
The RDA had made special uniforms for all the recoms and required you to be dressed and ready to move into the base upon landing. Their first mistake was willingly handling you a gun. Evidently, they had never recognised you as a traitor. You’d died with them still believing you were loyal. Now, you would exploit that weakness.
For now, you decided to play nice until they willingly unleashed you into the forest. You made jokes with Lyle, established yourself as one of the team. Laughing with the other recoms about escaping death, making wild accusations about what you’d do the next time you saw that traitor; Jake Sully.
It was easy. As it always had been.
As if nothing had changed. Like you were back in school and you’d all come back from the summer having had growth spurts and been up to god knows what.
As a squad, you fitted together effortlessly. Falling into a routine of sleeping in the dorms, getting up early for drills and training, only to spend the evenings goofing around. The recom bodies were years younger, practically brand new, so the energy required for such shenanigans was effortless.
Within a week, it felt like nothing had changed. The squad was blissfully unaware of what you had done in your past life behind their backs. To them, you were still their comrade.
Initially, you’d attempted to keep your distance.
The forest called to you. It’s pull even stronger now with the additional na’vi instincts, and the small hallways of Bridgehead that were clearly not built with you in mind. You felt out of place in its tiny, box-like layout.
Your comrades weren’t too sneaky in trying to ease your nerves and welcome you into their chaotic escapades.
Lyle had always been an overbearing extrovert, chomping at the bit to challenge you into pushing yourself harder and harder during drills.
Mansk, in his own quiet way, insisted on dragging you to the kitchen every mealtime to assist him with cooking. He stated that he had no idea what to do with the new Pandoran ingredients required for their recom bodies, but you could tell he was bullshitting you to keep you out of your head. It worked; mostly.
Whilst Z-Dog had taken it upon herself to make sure your shooting skills were up to scratch - they were. And had sparked many competitions out in the shooting range.
Even the colonel seemed to have caught on. And that man was in no form of the imagination a family man. He was a leader. Your boss. The man you had to impress or risk getting killed. But recently, he’s been acting like some weird version of a father figure. Offering silent nods and backhanded compliments in his usual condescending tone whilst observing your training with your comrades. It would always be paired with a playful smack to the shoulder or a rough ruffle of your hair whilst the squad sniggered.
It was easy to remember why you’d stuck with them for so long. Because despite their missions and the people they killed, they had been your family on Pandora since you’d woken up from cryo sleep. A reluctant one. A ragtag bunch of trigger happy idiots, but they’d always watched out for you.
You also knew that they would kill you if they ever found out about your little personal mission. They made you feel safe within Bridgehead, but you knew they would turn on you instantly.
Lyle wouldn’t hesitate to cuff you and drag you to the colonel. Whilst Quaritch would go real quiet, ordering you to hand over your gun which he would use to shoot you on the spot. Z-Dog would make it look like an accident, whilst Mansk would hide behind his sunglasses and deal with business himself, stealing your dog tags to take back to the colonel.
It was imperative you remained vigilant. If anyone remembered or found out, you were fucked. So you had to get out. Fast. At the first opportunity. You could figure it out from there.
>_<
The moment the samson chopper landed in the undergrowth of the rainforest, you leapt out. Lyle was hot on your tail, peeling away from your side to secure the perimeter as the helicopter finished landing.
You didn’t bother pretending to be scoping the landscape.
The hum of the forest had grown steadily stronger throughout the trip, and now it slid through you like a melody. Calling to you more strongly than you’d ever felt. You took in greedy lungfuls of the damp, humid forest air. The scents of dew and vegetation invaded your nose, a world away from the canned air the recoms were forced to breathe in Bridgehead. Your ears swivelled towards every little sound, tail swaying to show content despite the mission ahead. Pandora was as gorgeous as she had ever been. The dappled sunlight peeking through the trees as the exotic fragrance of the plants filled the air.
As a human, it had never been this pretty. Behind an exo pack, you had never been able to smell the world, whilst the sights had been smudged by the acrylic screen.
This was freeing on an entirely new level.
Someone smacked you upside the head, abruptly shattering the nostalgia of finally returning to the forest. You choked, spinning in place and immediately stood to attention under the Colonel’s unimpressed glare. “What are you playing at Private?” He barked.
You could see the rest of the squad pretending not to look your way. Z-Dog and Walker had promptly turned their backs, clinging to each other as if it was the funniest thing in existence.
“Apologies sir, I got excited.” You replied sheepishly. "Needed to stretch my legs."
“Focus!” Quaritch stressed with an eye roll.
“Yes, sir.”
He nodded once before motioning to the others and leading the way into the undergrowth.
You fell into line, gun aimed on your surroundings as the squad moved further and further away from base.
Within the hour, the squad stumbled upon a broken AMP suit collapsed in front of an abandoned compound. The building looked like one of the remote link compounds the scientists used to use during avatar exertions. What it was doing so far away from its assigned location, you had no idea.
Quaritch immediately issued orders for the site to be secured. Whilst Z-Dog investigated the building, the rest of the squad fanned out into the clearing. Half went to search the undergrowth, whilst you remained nearby, eyes more focused on the compound than the forest.
The colonel and Wainfleet remained close to the AMP suit, quietly analysing the corpse impaled within the ribcage of the dismantled robot.
You swept close on your return pass, ears pricked as Quaritch glared daggers at the skull. Peering over his shoulder, your eyes widened at the pair of na'vi arrows jutting out of moss covered bone and the scar of a viperwolf scratch carved into the skull.
Quaritch's corpse.
And whoever had got him had been merciless in finishing him off.
The sight made you uneasy. Reminding you of the threats Pandora possessed. You were glad when a shout from the forest and the call for backup drew you from the suit.
No one knew how long the kids had been there. Whether they’d gotten curious and followed from the moment the samson touched down, or if they had been lingering around the shack. Either way, the petrified scream of the youngest girl had drawn the rest of your squad to the scene.
There were three na’vi kids in total, and one human child. All held hostage by a recom, whilst Quaritch interrogated each of them. You watched the scene from the sidelines, assuming Quaritch would decide they weren’t worth it and let them go.
But when the na’vi boy swore at him and Quaritch grinned with a simple, ”you’re his.”
Jake’s, you realised.
Your heart began to pound as you rounded the rear of the group, eyes narrowed as you took in the side profile of the boy. His too small eyes, the slope of his jaw, the fifth finger on each hand. At a glance, a full blooded na’vi. But you’d been around avatars long enough to pick out the little imperfections. The broader set to his shoulders, the lower position of his kuru that indicated human blood somewhere in the line.
Quaritch was precise in his motions. Taking the kid’s kuru in hand to begin interrogating him. The colonel was rough with him. Spitting sharp commands before yanking his knife from his thigh strap. The boy’s eyes widened a fraction. You saw the raw fear swimming within them as he stared blankly up at the snarling colonel. Refusing to back down. Refusing to waver.
Quaritch’s expression tightened as he raised the knife a fraction. Logically, you knew the first strike would be a fake, to scare the boy into spilling information with minimal effort. You were lurching forward half a step, ears fanning wide in alarm before you could stop yourself.
The motion of that knife froze mid air, a testament to the Colonel’s reflexes as his burning eyes flickered to you. You made an effort to smooth out your microexpressions, hands limp at your side instead of reaching for a weapon like you so desperately wanted to. Something in the kid’s face had made something tight and protective flare up between your ribs, and the Colonel had noticed.
Quaritch’s gaze was stern as shook his head in disappointment. “Don’t go getting soft on me, Private.” He reminded, grasp shifting on the kid’s kuru. “I know you had a soft spot for them back in the day, but none of that bullshit now.”
“Sorry sir.” You grit out, but didn’t retreat. He glared at you, you maintained steady eye contact until Wainfleet pulled Quaritch’s attention to the older na’vi girl. He had her fingers splayed for the colonel to see, chuckling at her five fingers.
Their conversation quickly dissolved into the back of your mind as Quaritch handed the na’vi boy off, putting blessed distance between the kid and his knife.
Tracking the Colonel’s movements as he approached the older girl, you found your attention drawn by the human boy. You blinked at his intense gaze, at the storm of unexplainable emotions swimming behind his eyes that you felt dizzy just looking at him. Despite his face being locked away behind an exopack, his gaze was no less piercing. He seemed to see you.
The squint of his eyebrows seemed to suggest he saw you. Not a soldier. Not a recom. Just you. As if he could see beneath the scientifically created body to the memory chip beneath, to what remained of your soul.
But that was probably just you projecting.
To distract yourself from the tightening of your chest, you also studied him as your comrades kept interrogating the children. Their voices grew distant as you inspected the blue stripes painted across tanned skin. The traditional Omaticayan weaving style of his armband as well as the songcord attached to the hem of his loincloth.
Your eyes caught on the necklace at his throat. A style that matched the one your human body wore in the video. Down to the brown and red beads. The familiar weaving style. Even at this distance, you recognised Tsu’tey’s handiwork.
And whilst it reassured and relieved you that he was still alive, that somehow, in some way, this child had a piece of him, you were confused. How had he gotten his hands on one of Tsu’tey’s pieces?
Then he steeled himself. Quaritch’s bulk warmed your back, his shadow falling over your left arm. In a shockingly gentle tone, Quaritch asked for the boy’s name, and surprisingly, he gave it.
”Spider Socorro.” He blurted in strained english.
Your ear flickered back at the colonel’s sharp inhale. “Miles?”
Spider straightened, chin lifted in defiance. “Nobody calls me that.”
Quaritch’s expression was unreadable. He didn’t bother to respond and stepped away to talk into his neck piece. He didn’t go far and simply turned his back, speaking to Ardmore as the squad shifted uneasily.
The kids hissed as the recoms began moving them towards the compound where the shuttle would more easily be able to let down the ropes. Your stomach tightened at the thought of dragging them back with you. To know how they felt and be unable to offer sympathy.
Quaritch motioned to the children. ”Keep hold of ‘em. Shuttle will be here in ten.”
Your stomach dropped. Not the shuttle. Not yet. You couldn’t stomach the idea of going back to Bridgehead after this. After such a short taste of freedom.
”Colonel.” You said loudly, making the man pause midstep. He levelled you with an unreadable look as you struggled to find your voice. “These kids are useless to us.”
As soon as the words left your lips, his expression visibly shut off and you knew you would not be able to get through to him. “I’m not gonna repeat myself, Private.” He snapped, pulling rank to put you in your place. You squared up to him. Chin lifted.
A distant bird call had your ears pricking. It was short. A burst of a sound. It had the kids straightening, all their ears fanning towards the sound.
The bird called again. That one note echoing through the trees.
Shifting uneasily, your eyes followed the direction it had come from, momentarily breaking eye contact. Quaritch smirked as if he’d won a great battle. “Take the na’vi boy.” He ordered, motioning to the kid who was promptly handed over, and then raised his voice to the squad. “Into defensive positions!”
The group fell into formation as the sun began its nightly cycle behind the moon, bringing with it a rain storm. The boy’s neural whip between your fingers quickly grew saturated, making your weak grip slip with every sharp movement he would make. That bird call did not grow distant or stop. In fact, you could’ve sworn it was getting closer.
There was a moment of stillness. The forest holding its breath as the recoms kept whispering to each other, kept moving noisily through the undergrowth. Blind to the silent warning.
You held your breath, going unnaturally still as the boy in front of you did the same.
There was a cut off shout. An explosion of movement near the main body of the group.
Keeping your position, your head snapped towards the sound. Mouth going dry at the na’vi arrow protruding from Fike’s skull. It had embedded itself into his eye socket, almost straight through.
Whatever was making that sound had clearly found the squad. And it wasn’t pleased.
As the group erupted into chaos, you saw your chance. Loosening your grip on the kid’s kuru, you slowly stepped back, praying the steady movements would not draw that hunter’s eye to your form. The kid spun to face you, wrists bound, looking wide eyed and terrified.
You raised your hands in surrender, head dipping. <”Get out of here.”> You hissed, nodding to the trees.
His ears fanned wide as a satellite. Momentarily frozen in time. Eyes studying your own for the trick.
A gun went off at his back, snapping him out of it. More arrows were fired and more recoms died.
He turned his back to you, and with a burst of speed began shepherding his little sister towards the treeline. The girl went easily, grabbing at his bound wrists and dragging him away.
You kept your attention on their backs, hand hanging close to your gun in case someone turned their attention on you.
The recoms were dying in disorganised clusters. The smart ones like Wainfleet and Z-Dog had already taken cover behind trees as the onslaught of arrows threw everyone else out of formation, causing them to scramble for cover. It gave you a sick sense of satisfaction.
A shout drew your attention.
Walker had the older girl by her kuru after she’d tried to make a break for it with Spider. She struggled as she yanked her back, her gun useless in her focus on keeping hold of her.
Your gaze narrowed. Your rifle was in your hands before you could think to check if anyone was looking. The trigger was smooth under your finger. And with a light squeeze the machine roared to life and shot a hole through the tree to her left.
Walker shrieked, hand spasming in fear as she instinctively let go of the girl’s neural whip. Spider was quick to grab her arm and run away, whilst an arrow found its mark in the recom’s chest. She collapsed in a heap. Dead on impact.
You grimaced.
The rain muffled your footsteps as you carefully retreated into the shadows of the trees. Thankfully, the squad was too preoccupied to notice your silent escape.
You felt like a traitor for withdrawing into the forest quietly. Which was funny considering that’s what you were. Your ears were pricked and your body low. Eywa must have wanted you to succeed because no arrow pierced your back.
The screaming from the small clearing had begun to die down now, but was quickly replaced by the sound of a machine gun going off. Definitely Mansk’s hand, he had always been quick to react in any situation. You quickened your pace, knowing the distance those things could reach.
The aim was to get as much distance between you and the squad as possible. Then, you’d tear off any and all equipment that would hinder your survival out in the forest until you stumbled across a clan and could ask for uturu. The word and its meaning came to you from a distant memory. A simpler time when Grace had been ranting about some new discovery she’d observed out in the field whilst you’d simply been trying to microwave your dinner.
One of the explosions went off a little too close to you. Making your pace falter as your head snapped up to watch the branches above burst into flames. You squinted as a figure got thrown clean off by the blast. They seemed to collide with every branch and bush in existence on the way down, screaming the whole way.
<”SPIDER!”> Yelled the older girl from before, appearing over the lip of the branch but not daring to jump after him.
Instinctively, you leapt forward, gun falling back on its strap as your arms came up to catch the falling kid. He crashed into your embrace with a punched out wheeze. Blood oozed from many cuts, whilst his back was warm to the touch, not burnt, but still caught by the flames.
Another explosion went off, spurring you back into motion. You tried to set the kid down, but he groaned painfully, clutching at your bullet proof vest as his legs failed to hold his weight.
“Shit.” You cursed under your breath. Glancing back to the branch, you realised the girl was still there. Still watching your every move. And still way too close to Quaritch and his squad. To the inbound airship.
Shifting the kid so he was supported by one of your arms against your body, you strained to relieve your feet of the heavy duty avatar boots. The laces were slippery from the rain, slithering out of your grasp and making you growl lowly to yourself. It felt like hours, but it could’ve only been seconds before you were barefoot, your shoes and socks discarded in the undergrowth.
”Hold on tight!” You instructed the kid, who dutifully wound his shaking legs around your ribcage and hooked his arms around your neck. You supported his back with one arm whilst you scrambled to begin climbing back up the hill he’d just tumbled down.
The soil was loose from the rain. The bushes offering no firm support due to your weight, their roots easily giving way if you dared hold onto them for support.
You hadn’t climbed anything in this body yet. With the base possessing stairs, and your memories of climbing trees locked away in a past life, there was no real need to. And yet, it came easily to this body. As if it had been born to scale the trees of the Pandoran rainforest despite being grown by aliens in a test tube.
The girl was quick to grab the back of your bullet proof vest once you were high enough. Heaving you up onto the branch with her whole body thrown back. Curling your toes into the uneven bark, you swayed in place, tail compensating for your shit balance. ”We need to move.” You insisted, once again readjusting your grip on the shivering child in your arms.
She nodded dutifully. ”This way.” You kept a hand on her bicep to steady her as she took off down the branch, leading you away from the gunfire.
With practised ease, she reached the end of the branch and smoothly dropped to the forest floor before scrambling away. You were slower in following, your body protesting the intense movements before your knees groaned at the sloppy landing. To his credit, Spider didn’t complain as the jerky ride, his eyes half closed behind his mask.
You pushed through the bushes to find the three na’vi kids waiting by some ikran. Eying the beasts wearily, you slowed your pace, listening to the older girl reassure her siblings with soft words at your approach.
You needed to be quick. The owner of those arrows would be returning for their kids soon. And whether or not it was Jake, they’re bound to kill you on sight without checking your face.
”He’s wounded. You must get him to the Tsahik quickly.” You explained as you approached, dropping into a crouch to set Spider down gently at the kids’ feet. He protested again, putting up a valiant fight to keep a hold of you, but you were stronger than him. Your touch was firm as you removed his limbs from you and sat him down.
Kiri was quick to drop to his level, frowning hard at his bloodied appearance. Feeling sorry for the wounded kid, you dared to take a couple of extra seconds pulling out a knife from your belt to cut him free.
He pouted as he rubbed the circulation back into his wrists. Those piercing eyes darting all over your face.
You turned to leave, but the youngest kid was quick to waddle up to your side, her bound wrists extended. ”Can you cut me loose too?”
”I /really/ need to go.” You reply softly, before cutting her loose anyway.
You shifted back, only for the older pair to immediately extend their arms expectantly. You audibly groaned, before reaching for the boy since he was closest.
”Zaza?” Spider croaked, making your brows furrowed at the odd word. Around you, the older kids had gone unnaturally still. <”Is that you?”>
”Zaza?” You repeated, finding the word felt odd on your tongue. It sparked a distant memory, of a late night sprawled on a bunk with someone beside you. Someone tall and distracted. The memory brought with it a sense of dread; a distant threat. You discarded that train of thought before it could distract you for too long.
<”It can’t be.”> The na’vi girl commented, and now it was her turn to begin studying you.
”I don’t know what that means.” You pleaded, hands frozen in time, the knife still poised. A headache was beginning to form between your eyes, and your stress levels were incredibly high, but no one was giving you a straight answer. All you knew for certain was that you didn’t recognise this boy, and yet, he looked at you as if he knew you.
<”Holy shit.”> Was all Spider replied with, slumping against the forest floor.
<”No way.”> The na’vi boy agreed with a laugh. He was grinning hard, ears perked.
His younger sister looked as confused as you felt. Whilst the older girl was inspecting you in a way similar to how Grace used to look at something that deeply fascinated her.
Out of nowhere a large, calloused hand wrapped around your shoulder, yanking you back and away from the kids. The hand moved with the momentum, throwing you off balance to land hard on your back. You gasped loudly, your knife flying away into the bushes. The kids were already yelling as you struggled to gather your bearings.
The barrel of an old model RDA rifle came into focus, inches from your face, making you gulp loudly. Following the line of the weapon, your gaze travelled up a blue arm to a scowling face that you hadn’t seen in decades.
<”JAKE DON’T!”> Spider yelled. Despite the frantic edge in his voice, he remained unmoving. His eyes as large as the moon as he stared unblinkingly up at the na’vi’s turned back.
<”DAD! NO!”> The oldest girl shrieked, clumsily shoving her bound hands into the na’vi’s stomach, her eyes wide and pleading.
The boy was quick to jump to your defence. <”They helped us escape Dad- SIR! Don’t!”>
<”DADDY!”> The youngest shrieked, joining in at her older siblings’ reactions. She promptly latched herself onto his leg, clingy tightly and making his strong stance waver. If you weren’t seconds from dying - again - it would’ve been a comically domestic scene.
You shifted your gaze back to the man in question. Jake looked different. He was older now. Tired. Blue. Very fucking blue. His expression was aged, his hair in dreadlocks. You barely recognised him.
Movement over his shoulder brought your gaze to yet another kid. Older than the others, he shared the same hard expression as his father, an arrow notched and reading in his bow. Clearly, there was no chance of escape. If Jake missed you by some miracle, that boy would finish the job for him.
Jake hadn’t lowered his gun. He was still studying you, blatantly ignoring his kids as his narrowed eyes swept over the planes of your face. The weight of the stare was heavy as his frown deepened.
Somehow, you managed to unstick your tongue from the roof of your mouth, terrified but fucking estatic that he was alive. ”Long time no see, marine.”
No reaction. The gun didn’t lower. His expression didn’t change. Remaining cold and closed off.
Your smile faltered as you realise he probably didn’t recognise you. You expected the gun to be shoved back against you, for a bullet to shoot through your body and for you to die again.
Nothing happened.
Then something seems to click. ”Impossible.” Is all Jake said, and he lowered his weapon. The kids collectively breathed out and moved out of his way.
His brow was furrowed now as he dropped into a crouch. Jake loomed over you, his shadow blocking out the moon as his arm shot forward to grab at the front of your bullet proof vest to yank it down. You jerked, instinctively growling at him as his large hand grabbed your dog tag chain and pulled it out of hiding. The chain pulled taught as he dragged you in by the neck, in turn, Jake stooped lower, eyes squinting to read the printed metal in the pathetic light of the forest.
He sucked in a breath. <”What kind of sick-”> He cut himself off with a swear, dropping the tag like it had burned him. His eyes shone with a dense swirl of emotion when he caught your gaze again, his voice punching out of him in a yell. ”You should be dead!”
Your expression furrowed. ”Sorry to disappoint?”
He cursed again. <”Kids, get to the ikran. Your mother should be waiting for you.”> None of them moved. Jake growled. <”Did you hear?”>
You could make a break for it right now. Roll onto your stomach and dart off into the forest whilst he was preoccupied. The boy with the bow had loosened his arrow when Jake had dropped the gun from your face. But there was no guarantee he wouldn’t put a bullet between your shoulders for your hard work.
In another life, you had been friends; comrades. But now, he was a stranger. And you were decked out in enemy gear.
The heat of the jungle was getting to you now. Causing sweat to bead on your brow and moisture to collect under the heavy, bullet proof vest clutching tight to every movement of your torso. The military grade trousers clung uncomfortably to your legs, your boots long gone but your feet weak and vulnerable against the rough terrain of the jungle floor.
In contrast, Jake was in his element. Adorned in traditional Omaticayan attire and walking around barefoot without an issue.
<i>Private!</i> Quaritch’s calm voice over the com sent chills down your spine, making you stiffen. <i>Private! Do you read me?</i>
You dared not respond. Jake was still studying you. Those unnatural glowing eyes pinning you in place.
<i>Y/n! Dude, you alive!</i> Lyle’s loud voice had you wincing. Jake’s head snapped down at the sound, ears fanning wide as Lyle kept trying to coax you into responding. Making your insides twist tighter and tighter.
You’d been hoping for a clean break that would spare your conscience. They weren’t supposed to have noticed your absence yet.
Fuck, Quaritch was gonna kill you for getting cornered by Jake. That is if Jake didn’t kill you first.
You were so caught up in your musing that you didn’t notice the man in question had moved, until a hand clamped hard around your queue, snapping your head back from the harsh yank. The sound you let out could never have been produced by a human. It echoed through the trees, making your ears flatten.
Jake paid you no mind as he harshly dragged you to your feet.
”Jake!” Spider yelled at him, eyes hardened.
The marine waved him off as you struggled to comply, your balance all thrown off and mud clinging to your ass and back. His movements were sharp, making you gasp. In one swift motion, he dug his finger under your earpiece and tossed it away into the undergrowth.
”Jesus, you’ve gotten cranky in your old age.” You complained, struggling to relieve the pressure on your kuru.
Jake let out a surprised burst of air that could’ve been a laugh. ”Glad to see whatever they’ve done to you hasn’t dimmed your humour, Private.”
”Fuck off with that military shit.”
He kicked at your calf, tripping you into walking faster. Snapping your teeth at him, you followed the sound of the kids retreating into the undergrowth. Jake’s grip was painful on your kuru, but he was no longer using it to guide you along like a misbehaving horse, so you would take it.
”You started it.” He blurted in that typical knee jerk reaction of his. You huffed at the familiarity of it. ”Now start walking.”
”You’re not seriously considering taking me with you? Are you?” He didn’t respond and you let out a bark of laughter. ”You’re being an idiot.”
“I’m sparing your life.” Jake replied sharply. ”Usually, people are grateful.”
You saw the ikran first. They weren’t as big as you remembered, but still scared the shit out of you.
<”Ma Jake, what are you doing? Kill-”> Neytiri hissed from beside her mount. The youngest girl cradled to her chest. The woman stepped away from her ikran’s side, bow slung over her shoulder and her expression thunderous.
Jake pulled you up short, startling a second shout of pain from you. ”Dude! Ease up. Come on!”
Neytiri suddenly appearing in front of you had you stiffening. Her gaze pierced through you, studying your face with a hunter’s precision. She recognised you much faster than her mate.
“Would you quit whining?”
”You’re being an asshole!”
You could only watch dumbly as her eyes widened, mouth dropping open whilst her ears fanned wide as the membrane of a frilled lizard. The hand not cradling her daughter flew to her mouth as that expression morphed into one of fiery rage.
”What did they /DO/ to you?” She shrieked, the sheer grief in her tone making you flinch. Her breath stuttered, glancing at Jake before finding your pained expression again. “Eywa took you home.” She sounded like she was trying to convince herself of that fact.
The kids shuffled on your peripheral. Unsettled by their mother’s blatant grief. Neytiri drew your attention back.
”How is it that you stand before me now?!”
Her cry echoes through the trees, bouncing back to your bent ears with the same gut wrenching emotion as they had had leaving her mouth. You stared blankly at your friend, feeling all sense of hope and joy at being found drain away.
She was looking at you like you were a ghost or some kind of illusion. Waiting for you to evaporate or cease to exist at any moment.
Your presence had unknowingly opened an old, festering wound that had barely healed the first time.
This wasn’t the reunion you’d been expecting. This wasn’t the open arms and tears you’d been praying for whilst you planned your escape. This was everything you didn’t want.
“I’m sorry..”
>_<
Jake’s grip was unforgiving as he hauled you off of his ikran at High Camp. Your arms strained against the vines they’d used to bind your wrists, fingers failing to keep you on your feet as he forcefully yanked you down off of his ikran and onto the uneven cliff edge. One hand still grasped your kuru, whilst the other bit imprints into your bicep.
They’d stripped you of your gear before wrestling you onto a banshee.
Now, your weapons, bullet proof vest and any form of communication with the RDA lay soaked in rainwater somewhere in the forest. You didn’t mourn the loss of the devices, since the RDA could no longer track you without them. But you did miss the false protection of the knife and the warmth of the vest against the frigid mountain air.
Goosebumps erupted up your forearms as you were dragged further into the heart of the camp. Tents had been erected inside the cave system, made homely by the cooking fires within and the decorative rugs lining the cold, stone floors.
You glimpsed a compound on one of the rocky rises. The shining metal stood out like a sore thumb against the wooden structures of the tents and the warm glow of the fires.
Jake kept you walking, guiding you through the gathering throng of clan members. Some you recognised, many you didn’t. They all stared at you the same. With pinned back ears and judgemental eyes.
It was a relief when you were shoved between the flaps of the largest tent so far. The atmosphere was tense inside, with a fire burning low in the centre and various belongings stacked up against the walls. Herbs dried where they hung from the ceiling, whilst a hammock hung suspended against the back wall where two figures crouched over a map.
Your heart leapt into your throat. The rest of the clan and Jake’s unforgiving grip on you fell away as your eyes widened.
The years had been kind to Mo’at. She still wore her red beaded shawl, but had updated her headpiece and decorative necklaces, one of which appeared to have been made by a child. Her intelligent eyes snapped towards you in the small space, the weight of the years portrayed in the heavy crow’s feet and bags pulling at her cheeks. That expression did not change as she studied you.
Tsu’tey shifted at her elbow, looking as handsome as he always had. White paint ran down the line of his nose, from forehead to chin, standing out brightly against the soft blue of his skin. He carried himself with an undeniable sense of authority, chin lifted as that razor sharp glare cut you down to your very core. He no longer wore the necklace that had matched the choker your human body wore, but the rest of him had not changed. He studied you wordlessly, his lips dragged down into a frown as if he’d already analysed all he needed to know.
Your eyes caught on the bullet scars that adorned his left shoulder. They were old, faded with time but obvious. Your stomach tensed at the thought of what he had been through in your absence.
Wordlessly, you watched as Spider - who had slipped in behind you - skirted the fire and walked straight for Tsu’tey. “Dad.” The boy breathed, barely loud enough for you to hear. The hunter immediately opened his arms for the boy to fall into, his tail swaying anxiously as he whispered inaudibly to the young boy. Spider finally lost the tension in his body, whilst your stomach clenched painfully. You hated to imagine what their closeness meant.
Neytiri burst into the tent behind you, making your ears shoot up and your body jerk. She paid you no mind, kicking at the back of your knee to force you to kneel. You gasped as Jake’s grip left you and Neytiri took his place. Her nails digging crescent moons into your scalp as she grasped the back of your neck with unforgiving tightness.
<”Daughter, what brings you here with such rage in your eye?”> Mo’at asked carefully. Her familiar voice sounded so calm, so familiar. You squeezed your eyes shut at the sudden weight behind them.
<”The Sky People have found a new low.”> Neytiri declared loudly to the silent tent. Mo’at hummed.
Somewhere behind the canvas of the tent wall, you heard small feet shift. Glancing to the side, you saw a tiny eye peering up at you from the gap between the material and the floor. Those unnaturally large eyes bore into your soul, making your tail thrash with nerves.
Neytiri’s fingers turned into claws in your hair, snapping your attention back to the situation at hand as she grasped a fistful of hair and yanked. <”They have begun to resurrect the dead.”> Your head snapped up from the motion, causing your neck to crack and warm pain to deep down your spine. Your mouth opened wide with an involuntary, pained gasp.
Mo’at didn’t move.
Tsu’tey was scowling hard at her side, Spider wincing in sympathy at your treatment. Two sides of one coin. An odd pairing in appearance, but even in the short time you’d seen them together, you knew there was a bond there. Probably years old.
With the crack in her daughter’s voice, Mo’at rose from her seat. On silent footsteps, she rounded the fire. ”What are you called?”
You could tell that who you were still hadn’t clicked into place for Tsu’tey from the way that his ears flickered in uncertainty. Still looking confused, he composed himself, sitting back on his hunches to look at Neytiri. <”What is the meaning of this? Why have you brought this puppet to High Camp.”>
<”It protected the children.”> Neytiri returned easily. Making it sound like you were a pissed off thanator that had by some miracle, spared her offspring. <”It recognised us.”>
”Neytiri-”
<”You do NOT speak here.”>
Your name sat frozen on your tongue. The reactions of your previous two friends made you not want to reveal yourself. Neytiri shook you painfully by the kuru, letting out a warning hiss.
You spoke your name, eternally grateful that Mo’at’s towering form blocked Tsu’tey from view.
More humming from Mo’at as she reached for the tiny blade concealed within the sheath of her head dress. You eyed her wearily, held still by Neytiri’s hand in your hair as she pricked your shoulder. She pulled the bloodied blade back, tasting the drop of blood.
Her ears pricked at the taste, staring at you with a newfound revelation. ”It is you.” She confirmed, and something seemed to unwind in both Jake and Neytiri. ”But altered. You are not as the Great Mother intended.”
She motioned to her daughter, expression pinched. Neytiri tried to protest, but at her mother’s stern glare, her hands retreated from you. Your posture immediately slumped, relieved tingles echoing across your scalp and down your back.
”Explain.” Mo’at boomed, commanding your attention once more.
That finally got a reaction from the hunter still crouching over the map.
”The Sky People grew this body as they grew the avatars.” She nodded along to the simple explanation, sharing glances with Tsu’tey over her shoulder. You swallowed. ”They uploaded my memories into it. This body is me.”
Jake sidestepped, putting himself back into your line of sight. ”So you aren’t linked up?” There was something unreadable in his eyes. You almost mistook it for hope.
You shook your head. That body was long gone. ”This is my body now.”
Spider had sat down on the mat beside him by now, and shifted uncertainly as the man wordlessly rose from his couch with the authority of a king rising from his throne. Mo’at stepped aside as he took slow, menacing steps towards you. Swallowing hard, you dared to meet his burning gaze highlighted by the soft white paint. The vibrant grief and rage swirling within those gorgeous depths was startling to behold.
His hand went to the knife at his waist, wrestling it free with the practised song of the blade against its bone sheath. Your fight or flight threatened to kick in as you recognised the same hunter’s stalk he had performed the morning Neytiri and Jake had officially mated.
<”Olo’eyktan?”> Mo’at asked, eying him wearily.
He ignored her, storming past her fast enough to have her braids dancing. That gaze was narrowed; honed in on prey.
His arm drew back.
Your eyes widened.
With a yell, he took a swift swipe at your head which you barely managed to dive out of the way of.
<”DAD NO!”> Spider yelled from across the tent. He was on his feet in minutes, scrambling forward, only for Mo’at to hold him back with her arm.
Neytiri tutted at the poorly aimed blow, her tail thrashing on your peripheral as you cowered in the dirt, your arms still bound and braced against stone. Vulnerable skin tore on uneven rock as you scrambled away, kicking yourself for turning your back, but knowing distance was more important.
At least Jake seemed to have your back.
<”Tsu’tey, what are you doing?”> The marine asked, immediately jumping in to stop him from striking again as you scrambled to get your feet under you. With your hands bound, it was a struggle. Your tail thrashed, attempting to aid your balance as you scrambled away.
Tsu’tey was like a man possessed, shoving Jake off balance and making another stab at you. His ears were flat on either side of his head, eyes wild and manic. You’d never seen him so pissed. And certainly not so quiet whilst being so angry. It was somehow more terrifying than if he were screaming at you.
Jake scrambled to stay on his feet, his arms wrapping around Tsu’tey’s waist and yanking him back. Causing the knife to fall short of slicing through your side. The Olo’eyktan shrieked, a noise you had never heard a na’vi make before as his nails clawed at the man’s arms, failing to tear him off. Your ears flattened at the heart wrenching sound. Eyes not quite leaving the knife still in the Olo’eyktan’s grasp. A knife which he was quick to recall and hurl at your head.
“Jesus FUCKING christ!” You swore, ducking again. “Calm down!”
He hissed in retaliation, ears pinned back from the ferocity of the sound. You stilled at the glint of water staining his cheeks, the redness of his eyes. ”I mourned you!” He cursed. Still struggling. Still trying to close the distance and kill you.
Scratch that last part. Seeing him cry and begin to break down was far worse than anger.
”I buried you.” He screamed, the shout echoing around the tent and no doubt chasing itself out into the main cavern. ”I visited you in Eywa!”
Numbly, you took a step back. Towards the tent flaps.
This had been a mistake. Coming here was a mistake.
”I have made my peace with your passing! What purpose do you serve? Why have you returned to haunt me?” There was so much anguish in his tone, you would’ve preferred a punch to the jaw. ”WHY!?”
”I couldn’t stay there.” You breathed, straightening your shoulders when you realised you’d curled in on yourself under that venomous glare. ”I couldn’t stay there!” You repeated, louder this time. Needing to be heard. Understood. ”With them.” Your throat was uncomfortably tight. ”I wanted to come home.”
”THIS IS NOT YOUR HOME, DEMON!” Tsu’tey was quick to snap back. His expression shattered, the rage giving way to a tsunami of grief so strong it made you sick. ”LEAVE!”
But you were frozen in place.
Tsu’tey took it as a challenge. With strength that made your eyes bug out, he stomped on Jake’s foot, shot his arms back, grabbed the marine by the weapons belt and yanked him up and over his shoulder. Jake hit the stone floor hard. With a wheeze, he collapsed in a heap, momentarily stunned.
You gawked.
Spider seemed to come back to himself. In your peripheral, you watched the kid expertly duck under Mo’at’s arm and dart around the fire, with the ease of someone who’d been doing it his entire life.
Tsu’tey’s form blocked him from view. His muscles were bunched like a thanator preparing to pounce.
”GET. OUT!” Tsu’tey screamed again. He made to step over Jake, only for the man to grab his ankle and yank, causing the hunter to crash at your feet. You leapt back as his hands shot for your ankles.
Spider was at your side in moments. ”This way!” He yelled, grabbing at your bound wrists and dragging you towards the tent flaps. You obeyed, but your eyes remained glued to Tsu’tey. To the hands that would drag you down and gladly wring your neck. To the twisted expression on his face, so alien to you and causing the white paint to bunch and flake.
Mo’at tutted at his back. <”You do not think clearly.”> She narrated, stalking around the fist fight now commencing on her tent floor.
”Come on!” Spider urged, tugging sharply on your wrists and tearing your attention from Tsu’tey and the rest of them. ”We have to get you out of here.”
<”Give me a head start?”> Spider joked with a hoarse laugh, the furious screams of Tsu’tey biting at your ankles.
Neytiri appeared at your side, yanking aside the tent flap and helping Spider shove you outside. <”Take the ikran.”> She urged the boy, her expression icy. <”They cannot remain here.”>
You had FUCKING GATHERED THAT MUCH!
Neytiri nodded sharply before barking out loudly, <”Neteyam!”>
A flurry of movement by the side of the tent revealed the older son from before. His expression was painfully neutral as his gaze slid from his mother to the teenager holding you hostage by your bound wrists.
<”Take the demon to the forest.”> Neytiri stated. She didn’t wait to see if he acknowledged her command before promptly ducking back into the tent. The flicker of a memory tickled the back of your mind at her sharp cursing as the ruckus within the tent continued.
The boy, Neteyam, barely spared you a glance before heading back the way you’d been dragged into the camp. Despite being dragged all the way here for the Olo’eyktan to pass his judgement, the Sully family were doing a spontaneous job of doing the opposite of his will. You had no doubt that Tsu’tey would have gutted you regardless of his knee-jerk reaction.
You were lost in your musings as Neteyam hollered for his ikran, three bursts of sound that had the magnificent beast dropping from a higher level of the cave system to stand before its rider. The boy was quick to form Tsaheylu, before fluidly mounting up.
<”Where are we headed?”>
<”The old village.”> Spider replied simply, guiding you towards the back of the mount with firm pushes.

the perfect hostess
60s AU
husband!Jaehyun x housewife!F!reader
feat Johnny and Taeyong
warnings: 60s gender roles, mention of alcohol, johnny and taeyong are attracted to Y/N, smut, minors dni!!! bad english from a french person (blame grammarly), probably anachronisms idk how folks talked in this period but you ain’t reading this for historical accuracy.
word count: 3.5K
AN: I tried something new ok, I addressed Y/N as “she” rather than “you”, tell me if you have a preference, but I’m not a big fan of this formula (“she” sounds more repetitive to me for some reason and I had to use  ”Y/N”  a lot more which I know can bother some people)
summary: Jaehyun loves his wife, she's lovely, pretty and most importantly: the perfect hostess. So when he invites his co-workers Johnny and Taeyong over, he's pleased to see that they all envy his marriage.
Jaehyun and Y/N could not be a happier couple. They lived in a well-furnished suburban house, Y/N was a dedicated housewife and Jaehyun was a successful businessman. He worked hard to provide for his family, but always found time to enjoy his wife’s company, despite his busy schedule. Oh Y/N was certain she made the best match in town.
Jaehyun was very much in love with his wife, and always looked forward to coming home to her after a long day at work. Y/N, on her side, admired Jaehyun's work and dedication to what he did. She loved hearing about his work projects and the challenges he faced. So when Jaehyun suggested this dinner with his colleagues, she was happy to accept. “It sounds like a great idea darling.”
He nodded excitedly. “Yes, I would be delighted if you met them.” Walking behind her, he blew air on her exposed neck, making her shiver. “And it would also be an opportunity for me to show off your fantastic cooking skills.”
Y/N couldn't help but chuckle at his compliment. "Well, I'd love to have them over. How many are we talking about?"
“Just a few. Two, maybe.” Jaehyun said. “I would not want the whole office to think that I am their friend. I have to maintain some kind of hierarchy, you know.”
"I'll start planning the menu then," Y/N replied, already thinking about the dishes she could prepare.
“Well, we are not in a hurry..” Jaehyun kissed her neck, down to her clavicles and Y/N gripped the counter as she sighed.
꧁ ♡ ꧂
Dinner was scheduled for Friday, and as the end of the week approached, Y/N's excitement grew, and she spent her week focusing on making sure everything was perfect. She was both impatient and anxious. She was determined to make a good impression.
On the morning of the dinner, Y/N woke up early, eager to get started on the preparations. She took extra care in selecting the ingredients for the meal, making sure they were fresh and of the highest quality. She meticulously cleaned and arranged the dining room, preparing the house for the arrival of Jaehyun and his colleagues. Then, she spent hours in the kitchen, cooking up a storm.
In the evening, she heard the sound of keys turning in the lock, accompanied by a bunch of husky voices. The men arrived promptly at the agreed-upon time, Jaehyun insisted on not making his wife wait.
When they walked through the door, Y/N rushed out of her apron and into the lobby.
The two men putting their jackets on the coat rack were very handsome. The former threw her a bright smile, to which she responded shyly, meanwhile, the other was taller than Jaehyun and had sharp eyes. Hers dropped to the floor, and she did not dare to hold eye contact with him.
“Don’t mind her, she can be a bit shy.” Jaehyun chuckled.
His soft smile managed to ease his wife a little, and she eventually welcomed their guests with a warm demeanour. Jaehyun introduced Y/N to the two men, who she now recognized as Taeyong and Johnny. Jaeyhun had insisted on her calling them by their first names, but she did not feel comfortable enough yet.
Y/N led her guests to the dining room, where they were met with a beautifully set table and the delicious smell of the food she had prepared. Jaehyun followed closely behind and the group settled in around the table.
꧁ ♡ ꧂
Y/N came back from the kitchen, holding a platter of steaming hot lasagna in her hands. She felt a surge of nervous excitement when she set it in the centre of the beautiful spread she had laid on the table her husband and his colleagues were seated. “I hope you all like lasagna.”
Jaehyun looked up at her with a grin. “I am sure it will be perfect, love.”
Johnny and Taeyong took in her elegant dress and overall stunning appearance and smiled. She felt her cheeks flush under their gaze, not used to receiving the attention of men who weren’t her husband.
“Thank you for having us over, Y/N.” Taeyong said, his voice smooth. “It looks absolutely delicious.”
Johnny nodded in agreement, his eyes still fixed on his friend’s wife. “Yeah thanks for having us. You look beautiful, by the way.”
Jaehyun arched an eyebrow and Y/N, flattered, muttered a small “thank you”.
As they started to dig into the lasagna, Y/N watched the men anxiously, waiting for their reaction. She needn’t have worried though.
“This is amazing, Y/N,” Taeyong said between bites. “You are a fantastic cook.”
“I have to say, Jaehyun, you’re lucky to have such a talented wife.” His colleague added.
Jaehyun’s eyes narrowed at the comment, curious about where this was going.
Y/N, on the other hand, was simply relieved that her efforts had paid off.
The dinner progressed and Jaehyun, Johnny and Taeyong found themselves drawn into a conversation about business -probably to avoid the elephant in the room. They discussed challenges they faced, other co-workers and business strategies.
Y/N, noticing the intensity of the conversation, couldn’t help but feel a little left out. She had always been proud of her husband’s success in his field, but she had little interest in it.
As the conversation continued, she excused herself from the table, taking their now empty plates with her. The technical jargon and strategic planning were a bit too much for her, and she felt a little out of place. She retreated to the kitchen to clean up a bit and finish preparing dessert.
Jaehyun had noticed her discomfort. He had realized that the conversation had become a little too technical and business-oriented for her liking. He did feel a twinge of guilt for not including her more, but he needed her out in order to discuss the matter he wanted to discuss with the men at the table.
He hadn’t even need to bring the subject up by himself, as after a moment of awkward silence, Johnny spoke up. “Jaehyun, I hope you don’t mind me saying this, but you are very lucky to have a wife like yours.”
Taeyong nodded in agreement. “It is hard not to be drawn to her…”
“I can see why you’re so crazy about her man.” the taller man pursued, sipping on his wine.
At first, Jaehyun had felt a twinge of jealousy. He loved Y/N more than anything in the world, and the thought of anyone else showing interest in her would usually upset him. But right now, he found the situation quite amusing. In fact, he felt a strange sense of pride that his wife could be so appealing to other men. It was proof of how wonderful she was, and he couldn’t help but feel a little smug about the fact that he was the one to have you.
 “She is quite amazing, right?”
Taeyong and Johnny both nodded, their eyes lingering on the kitchen door, where Y/N had disappeared.
“You guys seem to be really interested in Y/N.” Jaehyun said, looking directly at them.
Taeyong and Johnny exchanged a glance before Johnny spoke up again.
“I told you, and I told her, I won’t deny that she is a very attractive woman,” he said “but we would never do anything to jeopardize your marriage, I hope you know that. We are friends after all.”
Jaehyun took a sip of his drink before responding.
“I am very lucky to have her, indeed.”
Setting down his glass, he stood up, “Excuse me for a moment, gentlemen. I need to check on my wife.” and made his way to the kitchen to find her.
When he found her, Y/N was arranging the plates for dessert. He could see the tension in her shoulders and got closer.
“Are you okay darling?”
She jumped when she noticed him, looking up. “Yes, I’m fine don’t worry.”
Putting his head on her shoulder, he waited quietly for her to be honest, as he always did, and it had always worked.
“I feel a little out of place with all that business talk.” She admitted. “I don’t understand all those technical terms, and I feel like I don’t belong in the conversation…”
He wrapped his arms around her before apologizing: “I am sorry Y/N. I should have made sure you were included.”
“It’s okay. I know it’s important to you, and I want you to know that I am proud of you and all of your accomplishments.” With that, she turned around and leaned in to kiss him softly.
Jaehyun helped Y/N carry all the plates when they both emerged from the kitchen. Y/N apologized for her absence and, now in better spirits she was ready to be attentive to all of her guests’ needs, making sure they had everything they needed and that their glasses were always full. She engaged in lively conversations, in which they seemed very interested, and quickly found herself enjoying their company. She was grateful for the opportunity to get to know her husband’s colleagues and friends better.
However, as they chatted and laughed over dinner, Jaehyun couldn’t help but notice the way that Taeyong and Johnny paid his wife extra attention. They both leaned in when she spoke, their eyes never leaving her. It was as if they were both competing for her attention.
Even though Y/N enjoyed both of their companies, her impressions of Johnny and Taeyong were quite different.
Taeyong was very charming, and she already grew acquainted with his infectious laugh. She found herself giggling at his jokes and feeling an odd flutter in her stomach when he shot her a smile. He was attentive, engaging and seemed genuinely interested in what she had to say. There was something about him that was hard to resist.
On the other hand, she couldn’t help but feel a little intimidated by Johnny’s presence. Something about him made her feel strange. Maybe it was the way he looked at her, with his intense gaze and easy smile, or maybe it was the way he seemed to effortlessly dominate the conversation, his every word commanding attention, even from her husband.
However she felt, she felt a little guilty for feeling this way. After all, they were colleagues and friends of Jaehyun’s, but she couldn’t help it.
Jaehyun could see the way that Y/N was flustered by all the attention she was receiving, the proud feeling lingering. It was somehow gratifying to see others recognize the woman he had chosen to dedicate his life to, and he could tell that she enjoyed it as well. In the end, he knew he had nothing to worry about, Y/N loved him just as much as he loved her. He still made a mental note to keep an eye on the situation though.
As they finished dessert and coffee, the conversation turned to more lighthearted topics. Y/N told a funny story about her parents’ dog, and Johnny shared hilarious anecdotes from his trips, which contrasted a bit with the cold first impression he made on Y/N. Taeyong laughed along with them, his eyes lingering on Y/N whenever he thought she wasn’t looking.
The dinner drew to a close and Y/N felt a sense of satisfaction wash over her. She had succeeded in making the evening a success, and her guests had enjoyed themselves. She knew that Jaehyun would be pleased as well, and that thought was enough to make her happy.
Jaehyun thanked his colleagues for coming and walked them to the door.
Before they could say their goodbyes, Jaehyun could not fight the urge to take Y/N by the waist, lean in and kiss her. He knew he didn’t have to be scared of his guests, and jealousy had been replaced by something else throughout the night, but Jaehyun still somehow felt like he had something to prove.
Heat rushed to Y/N’s cheeks. She was pleased with her husband’s display of affection, but she was surprised he would do this in front of his co-workers. Placing his hands on the small of her back, Jaehyun deepened the kiss, pulling her closer.
Johnny and Taeyong watched them with envy from the front door, feeling a bit jealous of the loving couple in front of them, as they were both unmarried. He felt their burning gazes on him, but all Jaehyun could focus on was the way his wife melted into his kiss, her hands gripping his arms.
Johnny cleared his throat, trying to break the tension, “Well, we should probably get going.”
The couple untangled from each other, Y/N still a bit dazed by her husband’s action.
Taeyong nodded, his eyes still fixed on Y/N, “Yes, it is getting late.”
“Well, goodnight guys,” Jaehyun said, his voice light, and smile smug. “Thanks for coming over.”
“It was nice to meet you.” Y/N added politely.
Both men reluctantly tore their gaze away from Y/N, and as they made their way to the sidewalk, they couldn’t help but daydream about what it would be like to be in Jaehyun’s shoes.
꧁ ♡ ꧂
When they left and the couple was finally left alone, Jaehyun pulled his wife close.
“You did an amazing job tonight Y/N,” he declared, wrapping his strong arms around her.
She smiled back at him, feeling a little shy all of a sudden. “Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it,” she said, snuggling into his embrace.
“I knew you would be the perfect hostess. Thank you for making this evening so special.” He whispered, his breath hot on her skin. “Let me thank you as you deserve.”
Suddenly, he leaned in and kissed her one more time. This time, it was a gentle, tender kiss. Y/N felt a warm feeling spread through her chest and wrapped her arms around Jaehyun’s neck. They stood there for a long moment, lost in the feeling of each other’s lips, before Jaehyun decided to lead Y/N to the living room, loosening his tie in the process.
Once there, he pushed her gently to sit on the couch and kneeled in front of her on the ground. With his hands, he began to stroke her legs, Y/N shivered as Jaehyun’s fingers went up from her ankles to the inside of her thighs. He took one of her feet and placed it on his shoulder, he then proceeded to take off the heels she was wearing, his eyes intensely looking into hers.
“You have worked so hard today. You deserve a rest.”
Y/N sighed, getting more and more relaxed, and Jaehyun released her right leg to repeat his action on the left one, leaving a few kisses here and there.
With his wife’s shoes off, Jaehyun got up and took place next to her, where he got her to sit on his lap. Y/N placed her hands on his shoulders, waiting for his next move, but Jaehyun was taking a moment to observe her face.
Her lips always offered him the brightest smile when he came home, her cheeks lit up with a pink shade when he complimented her, and her eyes were always the ones to betray her emotions, whenever she did not dare to speak up.
“I love you so much.” He murmured.
“Oh, Jaehyun..” Y/N leaned in to connect their lips with a new fervour. She cradled his face in her hands and pushed her chest onto his. Jaehyun’s hands travelled from her neck to the collar of her dress and began to unbutton it, exposing more and more of her skin. Pulling the dress down her shoulders, he attached his lips to it and grabbed her thighs to fumble them. Y/N let out a moan and he took advantage of her open mouth to slide his tongue inside of it. Her hands went to his hair and began to mindlessly tug on his locks. “Would you let me take it off?” He asked sweetly, tugging on the fabric. Y/N nodded in agreement and got up on her feet before dropping her dress to the floor.
Jaehyun admired his wife’s body for a moment before motioning her to join him on the couch. “You know, you’ve made quite an impression tonight.”
Y/N smiled, pleased with Jaehyun’s satisfaction. “Thank you, I hope they liked my cooking.” Jaehyun chuckled and she frowned, apprehensive.
“They’ve liked more than that darling. He laid her down under him on the sofa and went back to kiss her neck, an enigmatic smile on his face.
Y/N sighed, but curiosity about what he had just said prevented her from enjoying his gestures to the fullest. Feeling her tense, Jaehyun straightened, looking into her eyes for any kind of discomfort.
“Jaehyun, what do you mean “more than that”?”
With a raise of his eyebrows, he grinned, again. “Oh, how can I tell you that, love? You know Johnny and Taeyong aren’t married, and I think tonight you made them quite envious of our life together.”
“Really?” Y/N asked, worried. She never meant to make them uncomfortable or for them to feel unhappy with their own situation.
“Well, it is not our marriage that they envy the most.” He went down to whisper in her ear. “It is you.”
Y/N’s eyes widened in surprise. “What?”
“They are very attracted to you darling. But how could I blame them? You are indeed the most beautiful woman one’s ever laid their eyes on.”
She looked at him sceptically. “Well, I am flattered, but I think you are just teasing me Jaehyun.”
“Believe me, Y/N.” he said, “They told me.”
Confusion and embarrassment washed through Y/N as she processed what she had just heard. Was he angry? Should she apologize? Was it going to change something at work?
Catching the glimpse of concern in her eyes, he answered her muted questions, “Don’t worry my love, I am not mad. In fact, I understand them very much.”
His lips went back to her chest, as he began peppering kisses along her breasts and belly, and Y/N tried to push the thought of her husband’s colleagues being attracted to her to the side and focus on his touch.
“Jaehyun, we should go to the bedroom.” Y/N sighed, her breathing already unsteady.
Jaehyun’s hand reached to her chest and took her breasts out of her bra’s cups. “I am too impatient for that Y/N.” He began to suck on one of her breasts and fumble the other, making her shiver and whine under him. “Please, let’s do it here.”
When she gave him her agreement, chuckling about how adventurous he was being tonight, his fingers travelled between her legs and he began to touch her through her underwear.
As his fingers continued their ministrations, Y/N threw her head back and started to thrust her hips thoughtlessly, moaning the name of her lover over and over.
Jaehyun got up on his knees, unbuttoned his shirt and Y/N ran the tip of her fingers on his chest and arms as he dropped the fabric. She gave little pecks on his shoulders as he fumbled with his belt, to take off his pants. Eventually, he succeeded and got out of his trousers. Jaehyun slid Y/N’s panties down her legs and placed his body between them.
One of his hands, next to Y/N’s head, steadied him, while the other held one of her thighs. Y/N gripped the sofa’s cushions as Jaehyun entered her heat, a long moan resounding. She gritted her teeth and they both waited for the uneasy feeling of stretching to disappear. Jaehyun stroked her cheek affectionately, as he peppered kisses on her face to ease her through the pain.
When pleasure got the better of discomfort, Y/N gave a nod of her head to her husband and he began to thrust into her.
Y/N whined and Jaehyun bit his lip, he was always reluctant to be noisy when they slept together. He started off slow at first, but his speed gradually increased and he took hold of both of her thighs to hit deeper. Pleasure rushed to his head and he began to hit harder.
“Jaehyun, it’s- it’s too much! Slow down!” Y/N cried out.
He stopped his movements, realizing he had been lost in the euphoria of the moment and had gone too far. He cradled his wife’s face in his hands and peppered kisses on it. “I am deeply sorry darling, I- you feel too good…”
“It’s okay, just… keep moving..” Y/N said before giving him a kiss.
Jaehyun resumed his thrusts and watched Y/N’s chest rise from the sofa, as her back arched, with self-sufficiency. His muffled groans also grew louder, and it was becoming more and more difficult to keep quiet.
Y/N was overwhelmed with the pleasure he was providing her, and her moans grew louder and louder. She felt the coil in her belly tighten and Jaehyun’s movements became sloppy and uneven. Her grip on his neck tightened, and her nails, planting onto his flesh, would certainly leave marks in the morning that would stay for a few days.
Y/N’s eyes teared up, as a wave of pleasure washed through her and they both came together. With a low groan, Jaehyun embraced her and released his load in a final thrust. Y/N snuggled in his hug as heat filled her up, and she felt all of his love wrap around her.
Jaehyun had come inside, but he and Y/N were still trying for a baby after all.

Oh, hi! So, I've been stalking your profile lately, simply feeding off your posts. I loved them for sure! I don't know if your requests are open, but here's a request: reader is not exactly an intelligent person, and can easily get hurt in his work, or be deceived by people. I ask for a fluff story like this with our dear Neuvillete! Sorry if it seems strange, English is not my first language
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
★ 📝 — notes: I'm glad you like my works anon, and yes my requests are open, I should probably put that somewhere on my blog. And this doesn't seem strange at all, I like the idea of this :D
Also I don't know if you wanted this to be romantic or platonic, so I made it able to be read as both, and I'm assuming you wanted a m!reader since you used the pronoun 'his' in your request, and sorry this took so long to get out and that it didn't turn out so great like I personally hoped it would, didn't quite execute the idea correctly

You were a guy who was surprisingly naive for your age. Albeit you fell for scams which you thought were good, so you have good intentions, it's just that a handful of the people in Fontaine are opportunistic when it comes to money grabs, and you were that opportunity.
Though Neuvillette, he doesn't like how those said Fontainians take advantage of you, so sometimes if it's a hefty amount of money, he himself would put them on trial for scamming. It's a little entertaining to Furina that he would do that for you, but she doesn't like scammers either, so she let's it happen (of course). How you and Neuvillette actually met was because of this reason. You were also deceived by people in a more sensitive way, most using you to get close to Neuvillette, and that did make you less untrusting of people wanting to be friends.
You were also pretty clumsy, getting hurt in your field of work. You always had at least one or two bruises on your skin and some scratches here and there. You never actually really get severely hurt though, much to Neuvillettes delight.
More on the topic of your relationship with Neuvillette, whenever he can walk with you, he will so he can personally make sure you're OK and don't get scammed of your money. If he can't because he's busy, a Melusine would follow you around to continue what Neuvillette does without him telling them to. The Melusines enjoy being around you and talking to you about your field of work, and even if Neuvillette doesn't ask, the Melusine(s) would tell him about you. He smiles everytime.
He likes to be around a man like you and the skies are always brighter, he just has to make sure that you don't get hurt or scammed when he or the Melusines are around. ☆

Of Duty and Desire | Chapter 3 | Neteyam x Metkayina!reader
Tumblr media
A/N: Sorry this took so long! I literally rewrote this like three times before I figured out what I wanted. Hopefully the next part will be a lot easier for me lol. Again, thanks for the love I got on the last chapters, and to everyone who left a comment under them, you get a little kiss on the forehead (consentually)

Chapter 1    Chapter 2 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Epilogue
"That wasn't fair!"
You laughed at Lo'ak as he came up on his ilu behind you, looking a little sour at your victory. You slid off of your own ilu into the waist-high water and shrugged casually. "It is not my fault you took the long way," you told him with a smug grin. He huffed at you. "Only because I didn't know there was a short way," he muttered.
The two of you had been out that morning collecting sea grass to make more ropes, a never-ending demand in the reef. After gathering as much as you could pack, you had suggested a friendly race back to the village, and Lo'ak, powerless to resist a challenge, had agreed. Now, he was wallowing bitterly in your victory wake.
The two of you waded up towards the beach, and to your delight, you spotted Neteyam not far off. "Neteyam!" you called out to him, making him pause to see who was calling. "Your brother is a sore loser." Lo'ak huffed in annoyance. "Only because she cheats," he countered loudly.
As you approached Neteyam, you could make out a small smile on his face. "That is a bold accusation, brother," he replied, stepping over to where you were emerging from the water. You grinned up at him. "A bold accusation," you repeated, "and a false one."
Neteyam turned to his brother and shot him a smirk. "So, you resort to false accusations when you lose?" he questioned with a disproving shake of his head. "That's low."
Lo'ak scoffed at his brother.  "Of course, you're taking her side," he said, switching to English so you wouldn't understand. "You're so obvious, it's pathetic." His words made Neteyam's lofty smile disappear immediately, and he gave his brother a warning look. "Don't," he said quietly in response.
Your eyes flicked back and forth between the two brothers. Whatever Lo'ak had said to Neteyam seemed to cut him, but you had no idea what it was. To diffuse the tension between them, you asked, "Neteyam, would you like to help us with some braiding? We collected plenty of sea grass for ropes, and we could use the help."
He looked away from Lo'ak to you. He seemed to hesitate for a moment before shaking his head and responding, "I can't, I have something I must do for my father." You nodded in understanding, but you couldn't deny the twinge of disappointment you felt.
It seemed to you that you were seeing Neteyam less and less every day. Usually, he was always stopping by the center of the village where you spent most of your time to talk or see if you needed anything, but lately, he seemed preoccupied with something, you just weren't sure what.
He seemed to pick up on your disappointment because he offered you a small smile and said, "I will next time, I promise." You smiled back and nodded. "I will hold you to it," you told him as he started making his way across the beach again.
You watched Neteyam walk off for a moment before turning back to Lo'ak. "What did you say to him?" You asked in curiosity. Lo'ak shook his head. "Don't worry about it," he replied. "I was just making fun of him." In truth, Lo'ak felt a little guilty about what he had said to his brother, seeing in hindsight that his response to Neteyam's jokes was a bit harsh. However, he shrugged it off knowing that he was right and that his brother wouldn't hold it against him for long.
For the rest of the day, you went without seeing Neteyam until the evening meal. He and his siblings always sat with you and your friends as you ate and talked amongst yourselves. That night, your conversation focused on the exciting events of the next day.
Now that the waters had grown warm again, and now that you were finally of age, you, Aonung, and other young Metkayina clan members prepared for the final trial of Iknimaya—learning to ride a skimwing. You were eager for the challenge, and eager to prove yourself worthy of your first tattoo.
"I don't see what all the fuss is about," Lo'ak said skeptically. "They can't be that bad." You and your other Metkayina friends all shared an amused look. "Don't think we forgot about the first time you rode an ilu," Aonung laughed. "I can't wait to see you try to ride a skimwing next year."
Lo'ak rolled his eyes as you all laughed at him. "Very funny," he said, sounding not at all amused. "But tomorrow, I get to watch you guys make fools of yourselves." You shook your head with a grin. "I appreciate the confidence you have in us," you told him sarcastically. "I know you wouldn't want us to fail, especially not your own brother." Lo'ak smiled wryly at you. "Right," he agreed. "Especially not my brother."
Tuk perked up. "Neteyam, you get to ride the skimwings tomorrow?" She asked excitedly. Neteyam, who had been eating silently most of the night, was pulled from his thoughts at his sister's question and nodded in affirmation. "Neteyam is old enough to learn to ride a skimwing," Tsireya explained to her, "but he cannot gain a tattoo and prove himself a warrior until he has bonded with a tulkun."
Tuk looked a little disappointed for her brother and quietly uttered a sad, "Oh." Neteyam shrugged casually at her. "It's okay," he said reassuringly. "I have already completed the demands of the Iknimaya for Omatikaya. By rights, I am already a warrior."
You all paused in surprise. "I didn't know that," you said thoughtfully. "This whole time, you have been proven?" Everybody watched Neteyam as he nodded nonchalantly, apparently not realizing that his Metkayina friends had made a new discovery about him.
"So, you can choose a mate then?" Aonung asked with interest. His question made you pause your eating. You looked over at Neteyam and watched his reaction closely. "That is my right," he replied simply, keeping his eyes trained on his plate as he answered.
Aonung smirked at him. "So, has anybody caught your eye?" He questioned teasingly. "Or are our women not good enough for the son of Toruk Makto?" The boys all chuckled together, and one of them added, "Maybe he had someone back in the forest."
That comment made you look back down at your plate. Their teasing caused your stomach to twist. You had never considered the possibility that Neteyam could find a mate so soon, and you definitely hadn't thought about the fact that maybe there was someone special he had left behind, someone he would want to go back for. The idea made you feel sick, and what was worse was that you definitely should not be feeling like this.
Neteyam's silence only made you feel worse as the boys continued joking with each other. It was totally plausible that Neteyam would have someone. Aside from being the son of one of the most famed Na'vi in history, he was smart, caring, kind, and handsome. Even if he didn't already have someone, it was only a matter of time before someone caught his attention.
You were somewhat relieved when the conversation turned back to riding skimwings. You reminded yourself that there were far more important things than dwelling on Neteyam's love life, and those things were much more relevant to your future than whether or not Neteyam was searching for a mate.
That first day of skimwing training, everybody made a fool of themselves, which made it a little easier to deal with. Riding a skimwing was a lot harder than riding an ilu. They were much more sensitive to stimuli and required a lot of focus, as was proven with your first attempt at riding them.
The wind blew through your hair as you and your skimwing rose above the water, and you were reminded of the feeling of flying on Neteyam's ikran. The memory of his hand on your thigh as you turned through the air popped into your mind, and immediately, the skimwing took advantage of your momentary distraction to twist to the right and quickly dive back into the water.
Every day, however, you all became a little bit better at riding. Everyone lasted longer and had better control of their mounts than the day before, but you noticed Neteyam was still having trouble adjusting to the skimwings. After one of his many unplanned dismounts, Jake had pulled him aside and spoke quietly to him in English. "You need to get your head out of the clouds and focus," he had told him. "Don't let her become a distraction, you're better than that."
You didn't know what he was saying, but whatever it was, Jake's words definitely fueled Neteyam's determination because he stopped joking around with you during the lessons. It made them less fun, but with time, you all became more proficient at riding.
The real challenge came after nearly three weeks of rigorous training with skimwings. To prove your proficiency, bravery, and unity, you and the other initiates must successfully hunt one of the most dangerous animals in the water—the akula.
The morning of the hunt, you all rode out past the reef on your skimwings. There were a couple of adults that came along to observe the final step of your Iknimaya, but they were strictly forbidden from interfering, including Tonowari.
It took a while of searching, but Aonung was the first to spot it. It was difficult to see, but in the deep blue water, the shadow of the akula was moving slowly beneath you. You looked over at Aonung, and he signed at your group, 'I will bring it up to the rocks.' You all nodded in understanding. Even though you were all facing this challenge together, you knew that Aonung would be taking charge as a demonstration of his leadership skills.
The way divers killed akula was by luring them towards closely-set rocks like the ones nearby to prevent them from having much space to attack. Then, a few divers needed to entangle its tail in the net to keep it from swimming away. The hardest part was the killing blow. Akula were covered in hard-plated armor with few weak points, but the safest bet was to stab it with a spear right behind where its jaws unhinged to open, effectively puncturing its tough skeleton.
You watched anxiously as Aonung swam out away from the rest of you on his skimwing. Giving you all a final nod, he took a small fish from out of his saddle pack and sliced it open. The akula reacted almost instantly. It made a wide, slow circle around to face the direction of the blood. Aonung watched and waited from afar, preparing himself to take off at a moment's notice.
You glanced over to your right. Neteyam was not far off, and he seemed to notice you looking. He offered a reassuring smile before you realized that Aonung taking off towards the rocks. The akula was charging toward the scent of blood in the water, prompting you and the rest of the initiates to spring into action.
You followed after the large predator with a net in hand. Aonung had circled around to face the akula as he came near the scattered rocks that rose all the way up to the surface of the water. The akula continued swimming after him, heedless of the large jutting stones. Aonung weaved around them with speed and precision, outmaneuvering the beast.
You managed to catch up to them first, and you cast your net over the rapidly moving fin that propelled the akula forward. You pulled hard, causing the animal to falter in its chase. Its body was too stocky to reach around to attack you, and soon enough, others joined in with their nets and began pulling as well.
It began thrashing viciously and snapped its jaws with wild desperation. Aonung took the opportunity now that it was fairly immobilized to run his spear through the weak point behind the jaws. The creature recoiled violently, but it still moved weakly. On the other side, you watched Neteyam bring his own spear up and stab it through the weak point on the other side of its head.
This time, the creature gave a weak shudder before going limp. Your relief was overwhelming, as was your excitement. With this hunt being a success, you had now completed your Iknimaya. You were now fully Metkayina, and you had earned your tattoo.
You and the others who had their nets on the akula pulled it up toward the surface. When you all broke above the water, you immediately began laughing together in excitement. You saw Aonung and Neteyam side-by-side with matching smiles as they clasped each other's arms in celebration.
Tonowari came up to the surface with a proud grin on his face. "You have done well," he called out to you all. "I am very proud of you all, but there is still one thing you must do before we return." Without needing any further prompting, you and the other young divers gathered around the akula's body to pay your respect to the great beast and commended its spirit to Eywa.
The village greeted you all eagerly as your skimwings hauled the akula back to the reef. People immediately worked to bring in its body to be prepared for use as both food and tools. Ronal was there as well, and she smiled at you all proudly. "You have now earned your first tattoo," she told your group. "Come with me."
Aonung went first. You all waited eagerly outside of Ronal's tent, and the three younger Sully siblings and Tsireya joined you to hear about your hunt. You recounted how the akula chased after Aonung through the rocks and how it required both him and Neteyam together to be killed.
It felt like no time at all had passed before Aonung stepped out again. You all gasped in amazement at the tattoo cresting his brow bone. It was similar in design and placement to Ronal's own forehead tattoo, and it symbolized strong leadership and wisdom. Ronal watched as you and your friends showered her son with compliments before holding out a hand to beckon you in.
Tsireya gave your hand a reassuring squeeze and smiled as you stepped up to follow her mother. Inside, you lay down on the cot in front of Ronal. By her side, there was a large bowl of black ink and several long sticks with varying tips attached to the ends. She brushed your hair away from your shoulders and began cleaning your chest with fresh water.
"You have spent countless days here in the village learning your duties and upholding your responsibilities," she explained. "And so, you will bear the crest of the steadfast and strong-hearted." She patted your skin dry and moved her supplies closer to you. "Our island is the heart of the clan," she continued as she picked up her tools. "And one day, you too shall be the heart of the People."
You listened to her speak without interrupting. Her words inspired a mix of emotions within you. You were honored by the profound meaning she had chosen for your tattoo, but at the same time, you were reminded again of your obligation to Aonung. Every day, you felt more and more apprehensive of the day that Tonowari and Ronal stepped down from their duties and passed them onto you, and the anxiety you felt only incited feelings of guilt.
Ronal began tapping her tools into the skin above your heart. The sharp tip stung as it broke your skin, but you stayed still as she worked carefully for what felt like hours. You didn't move except when she took the occasional break to sit up from her stooped pose over your body.
When she finished, she sat up to admire her work, a genuine smile growing on her face. "We are finished," she said, offering you her hand to help you sit up slowly. You looked down and could see part of the intricate pattern etched into your raised skin. Smiling brightly, you turned your eyes up to Ronal's face and breathed, "Thank you." She placed a hand on your shoulder, still smiling, and told you, "I am very proud of you."
Your chest swelled at her words. Ronal rarely gave compliments, so when she did, you knew she was being genuine. You worked so diligently trying to live up to her expectations, and hearing her praise made you beam with pride. Gaining your first tattoo was a momentous occasion, and the significance of that accomplishment made your hard work worth it. Seeing Ronal's smiling face made you eager to further prove yourself to her. How could you ever think of letting her down?
You stepped out of Ronal's tent with a new sense of achievement. Waiting to greet you outside, Aonung, Roxto, Tsireya, Kiri, and Lo'ak all stood up as you walked out. Their eyes all fell on the fresh tattoo on the side of your chest.
"It looks amazing!" Tsireya gushed as she grabbed your hand in excitement. You beamed at her, and everyone gathered close to inspect the details of your tattoo. They all offered their congratulations, and happiness washed over you with their praise.
Glancing around, you found that there was one face missing from the group. "Where is Neteyam?" you asked, trying to sound casual. Everybody else seemed to notice for the first time that the oldest Sully was not there. "I'm sure he's just resting," Kiri offered. You nodded in response. You also felt tired from the day's excursion, but you couldn't deny that you were hit with a pang of disappointment that Neteyam wasn't there to see your tattoo with all of your friends.
After receiving your tattoos, you and your friends headed back to your homes in order to prepare for the celebration being held in your honor. The akula that you had killed was harvested for its meat which would be served for everyone to enjoy that night. You busied yourself preparing for the festivities when you heard a voice near the entrance of your home.
"May I come in?" Aonung asked politely. You turned to face him in surprise. In nearly two years of being betrothed, the two of you had rarely spent time alone together, and he almost never made a point to come calling for you. "Of course," you replied, trying not to seem as awkward as you felt.
He stepped in carefully, feeling somewhat out of place in your home. "I wanted to congratulate you on the hunt today," he began. "You showed great skill and bravery in the water."
You were taken aback by his kind words. Never before had he offered such praise, but he seemed genuine in his words and tone. "Thank you," you said with a smile. "And you have proven yourself to be a capable and mighty leader."
He smiled back at you before releasing a small sigh. "I know this..." he gestured between himself and you, "...has been strange for us." You looked down and chuckled lightly, relieved to know he felt the same way about your arrangement.
"But I do not want it to be that way anymore," he continued, holding out his hand. You looked up and couldn't help but gasp softly. Dangling from his fingers was a necklace with several shells and beads intricately braided into the cord. At the bottom hung a large, gleaming tooth.
"It is beautiful," you breathed in amazement. You reached out and held the necklace up to admire. The bands of colorful red and yellow shells alternated in a beautiful pattern that demonstrated dedicated craftsmanship. "Is this the tooth of an akula?" you asked. Aonung smiled at you. "The same one we killed today," he told you proudly.
You looked up at him in surprise. "You just made this today?" you asked incredulously. He gave you an amused look before admitting, "No. I have worked on it for some time now, but I thought the tooth would be an appropriate addition." Looking back at the necklace, you understood what he meant. In Metkayina culture, the akula were a symbol of power, and wearing the teeth of one was a way to demonstrate one's own status.
Taking it back from your hand, Aonung politely asked, "May I?"
You nodded wordlessly and turned around, moving your hair off of your shoulders so that he could tie the necklace around your neck. The tooth felt heavy as it rested against your chest, an appropriate metaphor for the burden you bore as tsakarem.
After he had securely clasped it around your neck, you turned back around to face him. He had a faint smile on his lips as he admired his craftsmanship resting next to your new tattoo. "It looks good on you," he complimented sincerely.
You brought a hand up to feel the beads and shells laying on your skin. "Thank you," you said with a genuine smile. He nodded at you and then looked back outside a little awkwardly. With nothing further to say, he told you, "I will see you at the celebration." You nodded back at him and watched him go.
Feeling the tooth with your hands, you mentally reprimanded yourself. This was right. This was what you should look forward to, but deep down, you found yourself wishing that it had been Neteyam who had given it to you. You wanted it to have been him even though you could still feel the sting of his absence outside of Ronal's tent. You wish you could understand what was going on with him, or better yet, you wished you could stop caring so much. It would make everything so much easier.
In a stroke of cruel irony, your attention was captured by Neteyam's figure not far from outside your tent. He crossed paths with Aonung as he was leaving, and though you couldn't hear what they were saying, you could tell from their body language that Neteyam was congratulating him on his new tattoo and status.
Your heartbeat quickened as you watched Neteyam turn away from Aonung and head over to your home. You immediately busied yourself by pretending to move things around when he approached. "Are you busy?" he asked softly as he stood by the entrance. You looked up at him and feigned surprise. "No," you responded a little too quickly. "I am just preparing for the celebration tonight."
He walked in slowly, and you could see that his eyes fell on the tattoo on your chest. "It looks beautiful," he told you earnestly, and you beamed at him. "It is going to take some time for me to get used to it," you admitted with a laugh. He nodded with an understanding smile. "I imagine so," he said before his smiling face turned into a more apologetical look.
"I am sorry I wasn't there to see you afterward," he said softly, raising his eyes from your tattoo to meet yours. You stared up at him for a heartbeat before smiling gently. "It is fine," you assured him. "You deserved to rest after all you did today."
Neteyam shook his head with a sigh. "It was not that," he explained. "My father, he has been asking a lot of me lately. I was with him after the hunt." You nodded your head with a small, "Ah." You had noticed Neteyam constantly mentioned his father lately, either running errands for him or working with him in the village, so his explanation was not so surprising to you.
"You are coming to the celebration, yes?" you asked hopefully. You didn't want his father to keep him so busy that he would miss out on the festivities of the night. Neteyam's warm smile returned as he looked down at you. "I wouldn't miss it," he assured you.
You smiled in relief. "You better not," you told him playfully. "You wouldn't want to miss Lo'ak dancing." He chuckled at the memory of his brother's awkward dancing the month prior at the celebration of the tulkun. "I definitely do not want to miss that," he agreed.
His eyes fell down to the new accessory you wore around your neck. Taking a step forward, he reached up to gently lift the akula tooth off of your skin. "Is this new?" he asked curiously, inspecting the necklace with interest.
"It is," you confirmed, looking up at his face that was now so close to yours before adding, "Aonung made it for me." Neteyam seemed to freeze at your words, and in his face, there was something like disappointment. He let the tooth gently fall back against your chest, his fingers barely brushing against your skin. "It suits you," he said finally, bringing his eyes back up to yours and offering a faint smile.
You stared up at him silently for a moment. He hadn't been this close to you since you had danced together, and you found that words didn't come so easily when his lips were so close to yours. With effort, you managed to pull yourself out of your thoughts to reply quietly, "Thank you."
He took a step backward, helping you ground yourself back to reality. "I will see you tonight," he promised. You took a breath and nodded at him. "Tonight," you repeated and watched him walk away.
He kept his word to you. You and the other newly initiated warriors were all gathered together to sit with Tonowari and Ronal as a sign of honor for your new achievement, but through the crowd of Metkayina, you caught a glimpse of the forest boy sitting with his family. As the feast began, Tonowari announced you each by name in recognition of being newly anointed members of the clan. Everyone present cheered for you all, and soon after, there was dancing.
Of course, you danced as much as you could. The joy of completing the final, crucial step as a Metkayina member made you feel energized throughout the night. You only took a few short breaks to eat and drink so that you could continue dancing.
During one such break, you wandered over to where Neteyam was sitting by himself not far from his family. You held out your hands to him, and he immediately took them both with a smile. "This is a celebration," you told him with a laugh. "You are supposed to be celebrating!" He looked up at you warmly, but he didn't budge from his sitting position.
"I do not think I will dance tonight," he admitted. You scoffed at him playfully and tugged at his hands. "Nonsense," you replied. "You must." He seemed to deliberate for just a moment before his eyes looked past you to something behind you, and he dropped his hands from yours with a shake of his head.
"I think he would make a better dance partner for you," he said, nodding over to where Aonung was standing to your right. You felt another sting of guilt. Of course, you should be wanting to dance with Aonung instead. That was how it should be.
You gave Neteyam a disappointed smile. "You are no fun," you told him. He shrugged apologetically, his lips pulling into a faint smirk. "So I have been told," he retorted as you stepped away from him.
You rolled your eyes at his words. For a moment, you thought he was going to agree to your request, but something made him change his mind. As you walked over to Aonung, you turned your head to see what it was that Neteyam noticed behind you. Across from Neteyam, Jake was sitting with a plate full of food and a watchful eye. It was strange that Jake would cause Neteyam to reclude from your invitation to dance, but you didn't dwell on it for long.
Aonung had been speaking with a friend when he noticed your approach, and he greeted you with a smile. Without saying a word, you held your hands out to him. He took them and immediately understood your silent request, and he led you to where the others were lining up with the music.
Just as he had done the month before, Neteyam watched you dance with Aonung. In his heart, he sorely regretted not taking your offer, but after the last time, his father had pulled him aside the day after the celebration of the tulkun back at their home and warned him to stay away from you. Now, Neteyam felt his father's ever-present gaze on him every time he interacted with you.
He knew his father was right, and so he did his best to listen to him. Still, watching you dance with Aonung made his chest burn, and after watching you for a minute, he stood up and walked over to his parents. "I am growing weary," he said mutely. "I am going to bed." Jake and Neytiri shot each other a knowing look before Jake replied, "Alright. Goodnight, son."
Soon after you had finished your dance with Aonung, you realized Neteyam was nowhere to be found. It seemed you were becoming better acquainted with disappointment because you knew that you wouldn't be seeing him again for the rest of the night, so you quickly distracted yourself by clinging to Tsireya for the rest of the celebration. Still, you managed to enjoy the rest of the night despite Neteyam's early departure.
The next day, life resumed as normal. You got up early and helped with the morning catch to bring in for the first meal. You helped prepare the food for everyone before the rest of the clan came out to eat together.
Your friends all came out to eat with you. Lo'ak plopped down next to Tsireya and immediately started chatting away with her. Behind him, Kiri and Tuk came up to where you were all sitting together. You noticed Neteyam was missing immediately, but you managed to refrain from asking. He seemed to be making a habit of unexplained absences.
You saw him later on in the day when you were gathering palm branches for basket weaving. He was nearby helping his mother collect the newly ripened fruit from a grove of trees. You greeted them both cheerfully and said to Neteyam, "I didn't see you leave last night."
He looked away as he reached up to grab a piece of fruit. "I did not want to interrupt your fun," he explained casually. You watched as he pulled it down and placed it in the basket at his feet. "I see," you muttered quietly before adding in a more lighthearted tone, "You could have been having fun too if you would have danced."
He shot you a faint smile. "If you say so," he responded as he continued working. You stood for a moment, wanting to say more but not knowing what to say. With a quiet sigh, you told him, "I suppose I will see you later." He nodded without looking at you, remaining intently focused on finding the next fruit to pick.
You walked away feeling a little hurt. Neteyam's behavior toward you seemed to grow increasingly distant and unresponsive. You used to feel so close to him, but now, it was like there was a disconnect between you, and you didn't know why.
It only grew worse as the days passed on. You noticed he spent less and less time eating with your group, some days opting to eat with his parents instead. He never came around to where you stayed in the village anymore, and if you happened across each other, his conversations were polite but short.
Nearly two weeks after gaining your tattoo, you were walking up the beach and into the foliage surrounding the mangroves to search for a specific root Ronal was running low on. You looked out at the rain falling in large drops across the water. It was unusually warm weather for rain, and since there was no storming, you didn't mind walking in it to forage. Under the cover of the trees, the steady rhythm of the rain became scattered dripping overhead. You hummed to yourself as you stepped across the ground through the shrubs.
You noticed the signature leaves of the sand root you were searching for poking out behind one of the trees. Walking around it, you knelt down to collect them, but you were startled by a figure nearby.
Through the dripping leaves around you, Neteyam was sitting not far off under a large palm branch that halfway shielded him from the rain. In his hands, he was braiding a band of sea grass together with several small shells and stones woven throughout. He seemed lost in thought as his fingers moved the fibers effortlessly, remaining unfazed by the falling water around him.
You watched for a moment and felt the longing in your chest that you had been trying to ignore. You thought about turning back, but the truth was that you missed him, and you just wanted a chance to talk. You made yourself known by standing up, and he glanced up at you, a look of surprise crossing his face as he was pulled from his thoughts by your presence. You stepped over towards him, trying to walk beneath the protective branches around you to avoid the rain.
"Do you often sit in the pouring rain?" You asked with a grin as you came up next to him. A weak smile tugged at his lips as he looked up at you. "I was here before the rain started," he explained. "But I do enjoy it. It reminds me of the forest. We would often get warm rains like this."
You nodded in understanding. Gesturing to the space next to him, you asked, "May I sit?" He looked up at you for a moment, contemplating, before nodding silently and continuing his quick braiding. You crossed your legs and sat down beside him.
"What are you working on?" You asked after a brief silence. Without looking up at you, he said, "It is for Tuk. She collected these shells, so I'm making it into an armband for her." You smiled softly at him. "That is very sweet of you," you told him. Neteyam stayed focused on his work, but after a moment, he said, "Braiding helps me think. It clears my mind."
You studied his face, and in the silence that followed his words, you felt that strange disconnect again.
"And what is on your mind?" You asked quietly. He didn't say anything for a moment, and you thought that maybe he hadn't heard you. Then, he murmured under his breath, "Many things." The rain pattered around you as you sat next to him in silence.
"You know," you carried on, trying to keep the conversation going, "when I need to clear my mind, I  have a secret place I like to go to." That seemed to catch his interest because he slowed down his braiding and looked over at you in curiosity. With a small smile, you continued, "Do you know where the water runs over the edge of the rocks on the north side of the sea wall?"
Neteyam seemed to search back in his memory for a bit before nodding slowly. "I think so," he replied. "Like a little waterfall?" You nodded at his answer. "Well, if you swim down underneath where the water falls, there is a little tunnel in the rocks," you explained. "And the tunnel leads to a cave. Nobody seems to know about it, so it's like my own secret hideaway." With a soft smile, you bumped your shoulder against his gently. "But it can be yours too if you'd like."
The corners of his mouth turned upwards at your offer. "Thank you," he said sincerely before adding dryly, "I need a good hiding spot from my father." You chuckled at him before tilting your head in curiosity. "Is that what's been bothering you?" You asked carefully.
Your question made his faint smile melt away entirely. His focus returned to the armband he was braiding, and he muttered quietly, "I don't know what you mean." You couldn't help but give a small, disappointed sigh. "Neteyam—," you began, but he closed his eyes and took a deep breath, making you hesitate.
"Please," he said, eyes still closed. "You don't have to concern yourself with me." You watched him in distressed silence. Whatever was going on with him clearly agitated him, but you didn't want to make it worse by prying. "You're my friend," you told him quietly. "What concerns you concerns me."
He sighed again, and his eyes opened to look at you with sadness and exhaustion. You turned your body to face him better, placing a worried hand on the crook of his arm. "What is the matter?" You asked imploringly.
His eyes fell on where your hand was resting on his arm, and you could see in the dim light how his jaw tensed. He looked back to his own hands that were still holding the unfinished armband and shook his head slowly. Taking a deep breath, he looked back at your face.
"Nothing," he said. "I am fine."
You didn't believe him, not even for a second, but he was making it clear that he wasn't going to disclose to you whatever was upsetting him. He continued his braiding quickly, and in the few silent seconds between you, he finished it and tied it off.
"It's getting late," he stated, looking at the dim sky through the leaves above. "I need to get back to my family." He stood up quickly, and with a quick nod to you, he muttered, "Good night," before leaving you sitting on the ground.
"Wait," you called out, pushing yourself up from the ground to follow after him. Neteyam began walking away quickly, but you grabbed his hand. "Neteyam, wait," you said softly. He stopped moving as you held onto him, the warm rain splattering down on you both, and even though he could have easily pulled away from your grip, he stayed.
He turned back slowly to face you, still holding onto your hand. "Please," he murmured, closing his eyes in an almost pained expression. "Don't do this." You blinked up at him, perplexed. "I just want to understand," you told him pleadingly. "Did I do something to upset you?"
His head tilted in agitation at your question, and he opened his eyes to gaze down at you sadly. "You did nothing," Neteyam insisted gently. "I just need to be alone right now, that's all." He began pulling away from you, but you tightened your grip on his hand.
"I don't believe you," you told him, your voice growing more urgent. "For weeks now, you have been pulling away, avoiding me, and I don't understand why." He looked away from you uncomfortably. "I did not mean...," he paused, trying to think of how best to explain himself.
"Did you think I would not notice?" You interjected, feeling your hurt and confusion from the past few weeks begin to bubble up in your chest. "Do you think I don't see you leave every time I come by? Or how you barely speak three words to me all day?"
Closing his eyes, Neteyam winced at your accusatory questions and whispered your name pleadingly. You squeezed his hand and stepped a little closer to him so that you were gazing straight up at his face. Sighing, he opened his eyes just enough to look down at you with half-opened lids.
In the dim light, his amber eyes almost seemed to glow. Water was streaming down his face from the continuous rain, gathering at his lashes before falling to the ground. He looked beautiful— his body strong and his face gentle. It made your chest ache.
"Please, tell me what is wrong," you begged softly. "What did I do to upset you like this?" His face twisted in something like anguish, and he shook his head again. "You did nothing," he repeated. "It is me, I—," Neteyam paused, seeming to grow more agitated.
"I cannot be around you anymore," he said finally.
You blinked in surprise. "What?" was all you were able to say in return. He looked down at you sadly and shook his head softly. "I can't," he repeated. "I am sorry."
Your face contorted in confusion. "I don't understand," you said quietly. "What are you saying?" Neteyam looked away from you uncomfortably. "It was never my intention to hurt you," he murmured. "I just...," he trailed off again, unsure of what to say. He pulled his hand away from you and took a step back. "I'm sorry," was all he said.
You stood there for a moment, dumbfounded. Then, you felt a surge of determination rise up in you. Maybe if it had been any other person saying this to you, you would have let them go—it would have still hurt, but you wouldn't fight it—but not Neteyam. He was the one person who you felt understood everything, the one you looked forward to seeing most in the day. He wasn't going to get off so easily.
"No," you said resolutely. "No, you cannot expect me to just accept that, Neteyam. I won't accept it." He shook his head slowly. "Please, let it go," he whispered, begged. You scoffed, growing frustrated with his behavior. "No," you repeated, growing more heated. "I won't let it go. Not until you explain to me why you can't—,"
"I'm in love with you."
Silence.
You couldn't say anything. His words knocked the breath out of you. You stared up at him in complete shock, unable to utter a single word. Neteyam looked away from your stunned face in shame. "I'm sorry," he whispered regretfully. "But that is the truth."
You blinked and looked away, trying to regain your composure in order to reply. "Neteyam," you began, "I—,"
"I know," he interrupted gently, drawing away from you. "You are spoken for," he continued. "It was never my intention to interfere with that."
You were at a loss for words. You felt a strong mix of emotions in your chest—happiness, guilt, confusion. You had scarcely allowed yourself to imagine that he could reciprocate what you felt for him, and now, here, in the warm rain, he had given you more than you could have hoped for. But now, you felt the weight of Aonung's necklace and the promises it represented more distinctly than ever.
He must have seen the torrent of thoughts on your face. "And now you see," Neteyam said regretfully. "I am very sorry." As he moved to walk away, you grabbed his hand again. "Don't go," you pleaded. "I'm not upset, I just...," you thought desperately for the right thing to say.
"I have a duty to my people," you said finally. "Part of that is to be with Aonung one day." Neteyam averted his gaze and nodded solemnly. You took a shaky breath as you continued. "But being with him was never by my design. It was easy for me to accept before, but now, I find myself dreading it more and more."
His eyes flicked back up to look at you, his forehead scrunched slightly as he did. "You don't love him," he observed quietly, and you shook your head. "How could I?" You asked. "Not when I...," you couldn't finish saying it. Telling him how you felt was never something you had planned to do. Your heart was pounding furiously, and all you could do was stare up at him with longing and squeeze his hand.
He caught your meaning, and his face changed from sadness to hope and then to pain all within the span of seconds. "Don't," he pleaded quietly, pulling away from you. You blinked in surprise. "What?" You questioned as he stepped back.
"Don't," he repeated more urgently. "Don't tell me that. You are tsakarem. You are meant to be with someone else." Your jaw clenched at his words, feeling the guilt creep over you. "You think I don't know that?" You asked him in a strained voice. "Every day, I am reminded of it. It weighs on me constantly, and I don't want it. I never have."
He looked down at you sympathetically. "A heavy burden," he muttered in a low voice. You couldn't help but give a defeated sigh. "I don't want to be tsakarem. I don't want to be with Aonung," you told him quietly, looking back up at him.
"I want to be with you," your words were barely above a whisper, but Neteyam heard them clearly. Neither of you moved. You blinked up at him as the rain fell on your face. Finally, he took a slow step towards you and held up a hand to cradle the side of your face.
Your heart was hammering in your chest, and for a moment, you thought he was going to kiss you. Instead, however, he just stared at you with a look of longing before he finally closed his eyes in determination.
"No," he whispered finally. "We can't."
You felt your throat tighten and your heart twist at his words. You knew he was right. You couldn't. It wasn't right, and you would bring shame to your family as well as his. That didn't make it any easier to hear.
You couldn't say anything nor could Neteyam. There was only the sound of the rain around you as he dropped his hand from your face and walked back towards the beach, and as he did, the raindrops on your face was indistinguishable from your tears.

Tumblr media
would you show me a little of your time?
i just need a little bit of it
“i’ll come pick you up after your exam.”
joohyun tapped your chin with a gentle finger, unable to suppress an amused smile at your crestfallen expression. “yah, i have school to go to too, you know.”
“that early?” you complained, even though you knew it was futile when bae joohyun made up her mind.
the older student looked at you for just a moment. or maybe not…?
“what do you want as an after school treat?” she slung her backpack onto her shoulder, moving toward the door.
“nothing.” you pouted, only to hear your unnie chuckle.
“uh huh. see you tomorrow afternoon!”
you sighed, locking the door behind joohyun and shuffling back to your late night cramming.
the next day was miserable, as math exam days went. you studied furtively in korean and english class, but by the time biology rolled around you couldn’t be bothered and just spaced out sleepily. the weather was beautiful out the window. you knew joohyun was in that direction, just half a kilometer away, probably in gym class and walking laps around the track arm-in-arm with her friends. how much you’d give, just to feel the sun on your skin and chatter with her for half an hour.
it wasn’t fair when the lottery assigned you to one high school, and joohyun to the other. it was comical, when you lived two doors down from each other. each morning, you met up early on the street to chat or exchange your mothers’ extra batches of banchan. joohyun’s activities as a student body vice president meant some mornings she had to depart way too early in the morning—today happened to be one such day. you’d usually see each other off with a good luck hug on big exam days like yours, but duty called joohyun.
you sighed, dropping your chin to the desk until the observant teacher called your name. one more class period…an awful exam…and then joohyun would walk across the neighborhood to pick you up, just as she promised. bae joohyun never broke her promises.
as expected, the exam ran overtime. you weren’t the last to leave the room, but you grew fed up with triple checking your answers and knew that joohyun had probably arrived at the school gates by now. you hopped up, dropping off your test before speed walking out the door.
“y/n-ah!” joohyun called, waving furiously to get your attention as if she wasn’t standing in her usual spot. a few students turned their heads with amused curiosity, one pair of your grade mates giggling to each other. you couldn’t bring yourself to care very much, skipping across the yard with a broad enough smile that drew delighted laughter from your unnie.
“hi joohyun unnie,” you said, peeking your head through the bars and miming being a prisoner. “will you set me free?”
“oh, stop fooling around,” joohyun rolled her eyes, reaching around the post to tug you onto her side. she smiled, reaching up to rearrange your disheveled bangs in her usual impulse. “how was the test?”
“it was fine.” you shrugged, not particularly interested in pursuing the topic.
“did you check your answers?”
“two and a half times.” you started to walk, towing joohyun away from the godforsaken institution. she fell into lockstep with you, her arm automatically looping into yours.
“two and a half?” her brows knitted, trying to decipher what that meant.
“i gave up on the third pass because i’d keep you waiting,” you admitted, trying at an appeasing expression. joohyun frowned.
“you…” she trailed off, giving up on the scolding. “i brought you bungeobbang. choux cream.”
“oh!” you beamed, accepting the greasy wax bag and taking a bite out the head of the fish bread. the filling was still warm and fresh. “you’re the best, unnie. i love you.”
joohyun laughed softly, and you watched from the corner of your eye as she briefly dipped her head away from you.
truth be told, joohyun was acting strangely lately. it didn’t quite make much sense, but she suddenly seemed both clingier and more reserved at the same time. you’d wracked your brain to try and remember if anything had happened to trigger this change, or if you had done something wrong. you couldn’t for the life of you recall anything specific.
“unnie, do you have to head home?” you asked, stopping at a quiet crosswalk. cross the street straight and you’d make it home; a left turn, and your feet would take you to your favorite cafe. having missed your morning meeting, you figured an hour or two at a cafe wouldn’t hurt.
“yeah,” joohyun answered immediately. “gotta work out a few logistics for the year end festival.”
“oh,” you said, let down for the second time. joohyun sighed, turning to grasp your hands in hers until you looked up at her.
“it’s the end of the year, us seniors have a lot to attend to,” she said gently. you wilted slightly. your year gap was something that you liked hearing less and less of.
because bae joohyun would, of course, graduate with perfect marks. then, she’d probably disappear north to attend some top seoul university, be a star student and the talk of the town up there, and forget little old you, back in your stinky old hometown.
it was a chance childhood connection and against all odds that someone like joohyun had a best friend like you. she was even the talk of your school, her reputation as the most beautiful girl in this whole town drawing boys from your school to peek into after school student body meeting windows.
she was looking at you with those pretty doe eyes now, pleading for your understanding and probably a little too hung up on what you had to say about her time.
“mmkay,” you sighed, trying not to look too pitiful. the walk light changed, and joohyun threaded her fingers through yours as you crossed the street together. she glanced over at you when she thought you wouldn’t notice, squeezing your hand once with a silent apology.
the walk was short, of course. you two stopped in front of your house, which was the closer one from your origin. she turned to look at you again, her eyes warm as she regarded you.
“talk to you later,” you said sullenly, but she caught your arm and kept you in place.
“i’ll ask my mom if you can come over for dinner, okay?”
you looked up at her, unable to ignore the unconcealed hope in her expression as she extended her olive branch. you sighed, pretending to consider her offer until she let out an annoyed whine.
“okay, fine.” you sighed dramatically.
joohyun nodded, her expression brightening. the conversation could’ve ended there, yet there was something that rooted the two of you in place.
“i’ll miss you,” you blurted, your gaze darting across her face as you tried to decipher bae joohyun’s penchant for unreadability. “when you graduate.”
the older student exhaled through her nose, still clutching your arm as if the northward wind would blow her away that instant.
“i’ll miss you too,” she said softly, and you knew she meant it. she tucked an errant lock of hair out of your face, her lips pressing into a saddened smile. “i don’t know what i’m gonna do without you.”
“you’ll be just fine,” you shook your head. “i’m not worried about you. who’s gonna bother me about triple checking my work?”
joohyun laughed weakly. “you don’t give yourself enough credit.” she rested a hand on your cheek, giving it a gentle pinch. “you’re a clever kid.”
she gave you that look, in moments when you grew acutely aware of the difference between the two of you. it wasn’t pity, or anything like that, rather a reminder that in some ways, you were always chasing after her.
“text me, all right?” you moved to turn and retreat into your house gate, but she kept a grip on your elbow. you looked up at her curiously, about to make a playful comment about how she seemed to like playing hard to get, when the look in her eyes made your thoughts stutter to a halt.
she pulled you into the shelter of your house gate, out of the narrow residential street, and kissed you. it was short and chaste, but on the lips, and it made your heart fairly stop in your heart. it was over as soon as it started, joohyun pulling away and her eyes fluttering open.
she looked at you as if you’d been the one to kiss her.
“sorry.” joohyun said, releasing your elbow. her cheeks were nearly red, you realized, her gaze fixed on the brick wall by your side. she sniffled softly, and your heart dropped.
“hey, don’t cry,” you reached out to grab the sides of her arms. “why’re we talking like this? it’s not like you’re leaving tomorrow.”
“yeah, i know.” joohyun laughed once, her lip trembling. you could see the panic growing in her eyes, as she began to realize what had happened. she started backpedaling. “sorry, i just…i got emotional and…i’m being weird, i'm so sorry—”
“you’re not weird,” you replied gently, automatically. “well, not for feeling this way, anyway.”
joohyun finally looked up, and her beautiful face was tragically, nearly poetically distraught. your best friend was not frequently vulnerable, not even around her family or close friends. it was all the unbelievably similar ways the two of you aligned that seemed to set joohyun at ease, unlike with anybody else in her life.
so maybe this had happened because she had seen it in you, too; in the way you’d looked at her for the past ten years of your lives, falling in deep before you knew what any of it meant.
you threaded your arms around her neck, pulling her close into a tight embrace.
“you’re not weird.” you muttered, and turned to press a sweet kiss to her cheek. a thousand emotions settled in the eye of the storm, until nothing mattered but memorizing the girl in your arms. “none of this is weird at all.”
joohyun melted into your hold, and you knew the relief that was washing over her, because you could feel it, too.
the exhale of a love that could breathe for the first time.

Chapter 3
Previous Chapter
Once you landed in Monaco, you expected nobody to be waiting for you. I mean, obviously maybe a handful of fans that were just coincidentally there. But Monaco had a surprise in store, there were hundreds of fans along with news, media, and paparazzi all packed together in the little airport. You could see and hear them as you and Jen walked towards the frosted double doors. You weren’t even sure if they were there for you. I mean, it was race week after all. You had no idea how people found out you were going to even be attending the Grand Prix.
“Jen, did you or the publicist alert the media or something?” you questioned her
“No, I’m just as shocked as you. As far as I know there isn’t any promo involved, it was just a simple invitation to watch the race” she says
You always get nervous in big crowds, I mean who wouldn’t. But, it’s a different feeling when they’re there for you. You had also never been to Monaco before, you didn’t know what the Monagasque had in store for you.
As the doors drew open the screams and yells from the people flooded your ears. You and Jen stood frozen in shock trying to take it all in. All you could do was smile and wave at the people as they welcomed you in French. You even heard small bits of Spanish and English making your welcome all the more delightful. However, you were quickly surrounded by security as they took yours and Jens bags trying to escort you both to your car.
As you walked towards the fans you took notice of all the posters and signs, your home flags, and gifts they had prepared for you. You grabbed at your heart feeling the love and support. You knew you couldn’t ignore the people so you grabbed at the bodyguard's arm and whispered in his ear.
“Can we please say hi to them, please” you pleaded with him
He gave you a warm smile and extended his arm for you to approach your fans
“Of course Miss Y/L/N” he said happily
You approached the barriers and started signing whatever people handed to you, from your own albums, movie posters, and even F1 team hats. You took pictures with fans and reciprocated any words of support and love they had for you. You walked slowly down the line of people trying to get to every single person who was there for you. Jen and the bodyguards walked right beside you taking any gifts the fans had for you. Soon enough you made it through your fans and to the barriers where the news and media outlets were standing with their cameras and microphones pointed.
“Y/N! Who’s your favorite team?”, you heard multiple people yell at you
“Forza Ferrari!” you answered back
You instantly heard the crowd cheer at you and all you could do was smile back.
“Who's your favorite driver on the grid?” another one asked
“On the grid? I love all of them, it’s too hard to choose!” you said
You heard the groans and laughs of disappointment, I mean it was true you didn’t have a current favorite.
“But in general, I love Vettel!” you say proudly
You're nearing the end of the media people when you hear one last question.
“Y/N! Which driver do you find the most attractive? Which one do you have plans of having fun with this weekend?” they yell
All you could do is laugh and shrug your shoulders at them, not having an answer. Once you reach the exit doors of the terminal you turn around one last time facing the fans and media.
“Merci beaucoup!” you yell as you wave your hands goodbye
Once inside the car, you and Jen just stare at each other. Not having words for what you just experienced.
“That was fucking crazy” Jen says
You nod at her and feel your heart as it’s beating super hard, adrenaline always pumps through your veins when you're with your fans.
You lean back and lay your head on the headrest, sinking into the car seat. Taking a deep breath you think about how lucky you are, revisiting past memories all the way to the hotel.
Once you and Jen are at the hotel all you do is order room service and go over the plans for tomorrow. You two got there quite late in the afternoon so you decide to sleep early in preparation for tomorrow. Although, you can’t seem to calm down; you’re still buzzing with love and excitement. Jen makes you get into bed despite your refusal and you reluctantly comply. You bid each other goodnight and you watch her walk out of your room to hers.
Right before you close your eyes you decide to do one last thing, you turn to the nightstand and grab your phone.
“Thanks for the very warm welcome Monaco!<3 I already can’t wait for the weekend, see you soon. Feeling so grateful for your love and support!<3”
You hit post and close your eyes, smiling at the thought of the upcoming days.

To Rome with Love II Valentina Giacinti x Engen!Reader
Tumblr media
masterlist I word count: 2083
a/n: based off this lovely request. Valentina is really underrated in our opinion . <3
The afternoon sun made the Italian pitch and the players which were on it appear golden.
It only seemed fitting because your team, the AS Roma was celebrating a big win with the home crowd when you heard a Norwegian voice you were all too familiar with: “Great game, big sister!”
“Ingrid!”, you shouted surprised, turning around, before jumping into the arms of your little sister.
“Hi.”, she beamed at you, while pulling you into a tight hug.
For a moment you closed your eyes letting the scent which smelt of home wash over you. “It’s so great to see you., you mumbled, behind her you spotted her girlfriend, so you added with a wide grin on your face, you too, Mapi.”
The defender laughed warmly: “Good to see you too.”
“Will you stay overnight? And do you want to join our team party later?”, with a hopeful tone you asked them.
Happily, Ingrid nodded:” Of course we do.”
“We never say no to a party.”, the tattooed Spanish woman continued mischievously smiling.
“Great, so I can finally introduce you to all my teammates.”, you hummed delighted.
Excited the midfielder clapped into her hands: ”Please.”
At night when the heat of the day was slowly cooling down, was the time when Rome, the ancient city really came alive. Buzzing from that glorious win the Roma team was meeting in a popular club and your teammates were eager to get to know your sister and her girlfriend.
The first who came up to the three of you was Manuela who talked not only through her mouth but vividly with her hands as well: “ So this is the more famous little Engen sister, nice to meet you!”
“That big mouth is Manuela.”, you introduced the Italian midfielder to your family, rolling playfully your eyes at her.
Politely Ingrid replied:” Nice to meet you, Manuela.”
“And you already know Emilie from our national team. Next to her is Laura, we both joined Roma last summer.”, you explained.
Mapi winked at the Austrian: ”Oh, we do know Laura already.”
“Why didn’t you take Keira with you, Mapi?”, Laura responded, throwing an eyebrow up.
The defender waved it off: “You know your girlfriend. She prefers to visit you alone.”
“Yes, okay, you’re right about that.”, Keira Walsh’s partner admitted, her smile growing bigger as she thought about the English Barcelona midfielder.
Meanwhile, Valentina who you didn’t saw coming until she wrapped her muscular arms around you, whispered a bit impatiently  into your ear:  “Don’t you want to introduce me to your sister too?”
You could feel your cheeks redden as you gestured towards Valentina; “Girls, this is Vale… Valentina.“
You noticed Ingrids curious glance in your direction but she only smiled politely at your teammate; “Nice to finally get to know you, Valentina. My sister said you really helped her settle in when she moved here.“
“To be fair, it wasn’t as hard as expected. She’s almost a full Italian now.“, Valentina replied with a laugh.
Offended, you raised your eyebrows at the real Italian; “Almost?!“
“Almost.“, she confirmed, smirking unimpressed about your remark.
Your sister interrupted the two of you, tilting her head with curiosity; “What is still Norwegian about her?“
Without missing a beat, Valentina answered; “The way she drinks her coffee.“
“I love to do kokekaffe while she just uses her beloved espresso machine.“, you rolled your eyes.
Nodding, your sister agreed; “Good coffee just takes time. I’m on your side on that.“
“I’m not.“, Mapi interjected with a shrug and an apologetic smile towards her girlfriend.
Valentinas interest was piqued; “Bet you love espresso too, Mapi.“
“I do. I love my moka pot for that. I even got it tattooed.“, the Spanish defender told her excitedly. She shrugged out of her cardigan and showed the tattoo on her bare arm to Valentina.
Her eyes glinted as she examined it; “Oh my god! I love it!“
Satisfied with the reaction, Mapi smiled; “It’s pretty cool, right?“
“Yes, it is.“
While they continued their conversation about coffee-themed tattoos, you felt Camelia impatiently drag on your arm; “Come on, time to dance!“
She took your hand in hers and led you to the dance floor. On the way, you waved over to your sister; “You too, Mapi and Ingrid!“
“We’re coming too!“, your sister yelled back.
You gave her thumbs-up; “Perfect!“
Mapi only grimaced at her girlfriend; “Dancing?“
“It’s fun, love.“, Ingrid replied and dragged Mapi along with her. You quickly lost them in the dancing crowd but you were distracted anyway by Valentinas hands on your hips and her mouth close to your ear; “You’ve danced with half of the team already. Now it’s my turn.“
“Do you still have energy for that, Vale?“, you smirked, turning towards her.
Valentinas eyes searched for yours in the dim light; “You’d be surprised by how much energy I still have.“
The rasp in her voice made you shiver for a second but you concealed it by smirking at her; “You can show it to me now and later.“
“Oh I will.“
Biting your lip, you changed the topic; “Let’s dance.“
“Sure.“, she shrugged, pulling you closer as you two started moving to the rhythm of the music.
A few meters away from you Ingrid asked her girlfriend interested:” Who do you think my sister is dating in her team. She hasn’t told me yet.”
“Oh, it’s pretty obvious.”, Mapi said with a mischievous smile lightening up her face.
Glancing at you dancing with her, your sister observed: “Definitely Valentina.”
“See.”, the defender agreed.
Twirling around the dance floor, Ingrid thought out loud:” Bet the whole team already knows about them.”
“Probably. I mean look at them.”, the Spanish woman pointed at your direction, where Valentina got suspiciously touchy for a teammate.
Your sister smiled as she confessed: “Valentina is taller than I thought.”
“I think she’s the perfect height for your sister.”, Mapi replied.
“Agreed.”
“It’s cute. But not as cute as we are.”, with these cheeky words out the older woman kissed the younger Norwegian.
“Of course not.”, Ingrid laughed.
Gingerly the defender apologized:” Sorry.”
You two have seen the girlfriends looking at you from across the dance floor, that’s why Valentina stated amused:” Your sister and her girlfriend are gossiping about us.”
“You’re right.”
The Italian looked at you in confusion:” I thought you didn’t tell your sister about us?”
“I didn’t.”, you quickly reassured her.
She exhaled deeply before offering:” Do you want to leave?”
“Yes.”, swiftly you went up to Ingrid and Mapi.
Clearing your throat, you wanted to know from them:” Will I see you two for breakfast tomorrow?”
“At your place?”, your sister asked.
“Yes.”
The Barcelona midfielder promised: “We’ll be there.”
“Can’t wait.”, you told them beaming.
Knowing how exhausting an important match day could be, Ingrid hugged you: “Good night, y/n.”
On the following day, the sunlight already graced your bed, you enjoyed the warmth on your skin and from your girlfriend who was laying next to you. She could already sense that you were awake too.
Besides being already more awake than you Valentina’s voice was still full of sleep:” Morning, beautiful.”
“Good morning.”, you mumbled, slowly opening your eyes, catching the sight of the sheepishly smiling Italian, like every morning since you two became a couple you softly kissed her lips.
After she replied to your kiss, the forward padded your thigh: “Time to get up.”
“Five more minutes in bed, please.”, you sighed dramatically.
Amused by your theatrics which was usually her job on and off the football pitch, Valentina gave in: ”Okay, fine.”
“Those mornings with you are my favourite part of the day.”, you confessed your head placed onto her chest.
You watched your girlfriends mouth turn into a slight smirk while she replied; “They are my least favourite part because soon I’ll have to share you again with the team.“
“Sorry. So you prefer the evenings?“, you chuckled.
Valentina tilted her head like she had to think about the answer; “I do. Although you look really cute after you woke up so you might convince me to like the mornings more.“
Lazily, you grinned up to her; “You look cuter with your curls all messed up.“
“Five minutes are over. Time to get going. I have to fix my hair.“, Valentina ended the conversation, carefully shoving you off her upper body and sitting up.
You were about to pout and convince her to stay in bed but your sisters voice echoing through your apartment startled you.
“Hi, we got the goods.“
Her voice was clearly coming from your kitchen and you could basically see them putting down a bag with delicious pastries on the table.
You exchanged a panicked look with Valentina; “Shit!“
Cursing under her breath, your girlfriend jumped out of your bed and sprinted to the adjacent bathroom; “You deal with them. I’ll be fixing my hair.“
“Okay, no problem.“, you replied while you slipped into your clothes and opened the bedroom door to greet Ingrid and Mapi; “Hi, lovelies!“
Your sister however seemed to look right through you. She raised her eyebrow; “Are we too early?“
You shook your head innocently; “No, you’re right on time. Do you want a cup of coffee?“
“Sure.“, Ingrid replied and sat down while you got to work.
You set four cups of coffee on the kitchen table; “Here you go.“
“Thank you.“, your sister smile while she wrapped her hands around the warm mug and breathed in the smell of the freshly brewed coffee.
You sat down next to her, taking a sip from your own mug; “You’re welcome.“
You barely even noticed Mapis disappearance from the kitchen until two simultaneous screams interrupted your peaceful morning. You and your sister immediately got up to see what had happened and found both of you girlfriends standing in the open bathroom door.
“Don’t scare me like that ever again!“, Mapi scolded but even she had to laugh about the situation.
Valentina grimaced; “Why would you even come into the bathroom?“
The Spanish defender shook her head; “Because I needed to use the toilet. Oh my poor heart.“ She theatrically put a hand to her chest.
“Have you ever heard of knocking?“, the Italian asked, rolling her eyes.
“I didn’t know you’d be here but I should have guessed you’re. You Italians are not subtle at all.“, Mapi grinned.
Valentina grimaced, more offended than confused; “Excuse me?!“
“We knew it straight away actually.“, Ingrid joined to discussion with a nonchalant shrug.
The Italian seemed surprised by your sisters observation skills:”How?”
“The way you talked about and danced with eachother.”, the defender answered promptly.
Slowly Valentina shook her head:” No one else in our team knows.”
“Oh, trust me they do, we asked Laura.”, Ingrid disagreed amused.
Thrown off by that your girlfriend asked: “Excuse me?”
“Laura told you that?”, you added equally confused.
Self-assured Ingrid nodded: “She did.”
“Oh wow.”, you mumbled.
To sum up the situation your sister concluded: “So they know. Everyone knows.”
“Why did you two kept it a secret anyway?”, Mapi lifted one eyebrow curiously while looking at both of you intensely waiting for a reply.
Turning red Valentina stated honestly:” We didn’t.”
“But you didn’t say anything either.”, Ingrid countered immediately, her face showing a little bit of disappointment that you didn’t share this important information about your life with her while she was willing to tell you everything straight away after it happened.
Trying to cheer her up you changed the topic to something more light-hearted in nature:” But now that all know, don’t you think it’s time for breakfast? Hopefully the coffee didn’t get too cold.”
“About time!”, Mapi grinned.
Smiling, you promised them:” No more waiting.”
And you meant it, it was no more waiting for the closest to show them who you fell in love with in Rome. When you joined the club in the summer it was Valentina who played the best tourist guide with you, showing you the beautiful sights of the capitol of Italy and the best restaurants in town. Life never tasted as good as in Rome.
Over a glass of wine, on a late summer’s evening, she asked you if you wanted to be her girlfriend, there was only one obvious answer to it.
Now, Valentina hugged you from behind, whispering hopeful into your ear:” That was quite an eventful start into the day I hope for a calmer evening.”

“Here.” A plate full of biscuits was put on the table in front of Tommy with a thud, the inviting smell immediately filling his nostrils. “Try them.”
Tommy’s lips slightly curled up at one corner, and once again he couldn’t resist the temptation to tease her. Putting on his most serious expression, he squinted his eyes, leaning back in his chair. “You’re not trying to poison me, are you?”
In the dim light of the kitchen, a glimpse of mischief shone in Nina’s dark eyes as a grin threatened to make its way on her face. “You weren’t supposed to find out.”
A chuckle escaped Tommy’s lips as he shook his head. They looked delicious, he had to admit. And even though he’d never been a big eater, observing the biscuits he couldn’t help but feel his mouth almost water. Eventually, he grabbed one of the biscuits to take a bite. The pastry easily crunched between his teeth, contrasting with the sweet cherry jam that melted on his tongue. They were delicious. And Nina must’ve noticed the appreciation in his expression, because a smug smile appeared on her face.
“They’re good.”
“It’s my grandma’s recipe. She used to make them all the time, when I was a child,” she explained, her gaze softening at the memory.
When Tommy had met her two weeks prior, Nina hadn’t seemed to him the kind of woman who would make heart-shaped biscuits in her free time. But he had soon realised there were a lot of things he didn’t know about her. And somewhere deep inside of him, he was glad he was getting to slowly unravel her night after night, talk after talk, discovering the hidden parts she seemed to hide from everyone else. It felt like a privilege.
“Tell me about her.”
Tumblr media
12 years before
“Can you make them heart-shaped?” the ten-year-old chirped, resting her head on her hands while her legs swung back and forth under the table.
Casting a fake scolding look at her granddaughter, Anna Ferrante poured some flour on the table. “Wouldn’t you rather play with your cousins?”
Nina glanced out of the window, a sad expression crossing her face for a mere second as she watched the other girls chasing each other, their laughter echoing in the big garden. “No,” she shook her head, seemingly recomposing herself. “I’d rather stay with you.”
She brought her gaze back on her grandmother, and observed her wrinkled hands skilfully work the dough. She had always enjoyed watching her cook and bake. There was something hypnotising in the way she added and mixed the ingredients, taking simple elements to give them another shape and create something entirely new. It was as if she was pouring her whole soul into it every time. “Why did you put the flour on the table?” she furrowed her brows.
“So the dough won’t stick to it,” the old woman patiently explained, rolling out the pastry with a rolling pin. “You want to help me?” she asked her granddaughter, handing her a small glass to cut the dough.
Nina’s eyes shone with delight and a big smile lit up her features, showing two dimples at the corner of her lips. Happy to be useful in some way, she quickly grabbed the glass.
“Watch first,” her grandma said before starting to form the first biscuit. “You can use a little spoon to carve a heart inside the dough, after you’ve shaped it. But don’t press too hard,” she instructed, showing her step by step what she was supposed to do. When she was done, she placed the biscuit on a baking pan. “We’ll put the jam when they’re out of the oven, they’re better like that.”
Taking the task seriously, Nina started to carefully shape the biscuits under her grandma’s watchful gaze, eyebrows furrowed in concentration.
Anna Ferrante took advantage of her granddaughter’s help to slow down. She wasn’t getting any younger, after all, and the things she once used to do with great ease were turning out to be rather tiring tasks. But at the same time, her heart clenched at the thought that Nina felt so out of place with the girls her age that she preferred to spend her time inside. And although her eyesight had lost its sharpness under the weight of the years, she wasn’t blind. Her blurred pupils could perfectly see how much of an outcast she was in her own family.
She was a special child. She had a sweetness to her, a sensitivity that couldn’t be described as anything else but disarming. And it scared her as just as much as it amazed her. Because Nina was good, and the world wasn’t kind, and she would find out way too soon.
“Maybe when we’re done you can go play with your cousins,” the older woman tried again, not wanting to think that her granddaughter actually wished to be on her own.
“They say I’m dark and weird,” Nina shrugged, as if to shake away those words. But then some emotion crossed her eyes, as if doubt was slowly taking root in her mind, and she stopped what she was doing to look up at her. “Do you think I am?”
Anna Ferrante’s lips curved in a sad smile as she shook her head in negation. But watching her granddaughter’s doubtful expression, she was hit by the awareness that she saw and noticed way more than she let on. Without saying a word, she took a napkin and wiped some flour off the child’s nose. Too sensitive, too smart for her own good.
“You’re not weird. And you’re not dark,” she said, looking right in the little girl’s eyes. “You are the sun, Nina. Don’t forget that.”
Tumblr media
“Well, it’s gotten late,” Nina spoke after a moment of silence, looking at the clock on the wall. Until then, she had never talked about her grandmother, the pain of her loss had always been too strong for her to even name her. But it wasn’t pain she had felt, while remembering things she had buried deep inside her mind. It was gratefulness. Because she had known her and loved her, and she had been loved by her. Nothing could take that away from her, not even death.
However, there was another kind of grief that kept on raising to the surface, no matter how hard she tried to push it back down. Sometimes she mourned the little girl she used to be. That little girl was not afraid to wear her heart on her sleeve. She was not afraid to be soft. She did not hide herself behind a mask of indifference. A useless mask, because pretending not to care about anything didn’t make the pain any less real. She had butchered that little girl, and reserved her no mercy.
If her grandmother were still there, would she still think she was the sun?

The fabric dampens as your tongue pushes against it, your teeth clutching the white material tightly, and your eyes scrunch as you push down the desire to scream in frustration.
You are going to kill your neighbor.
With one last clench of your jaw, you release the wet fabric of the pillow and sigh.
The digital clock on your left tells you it’s way past your bedtime. Yet, the booming from the redhead’s loud friends makes it sound like you are in the middle of a frat party.
You drag your hands over your face, the pads of your fingers digging into the skin beneath your eyes and pulling. The hackle of feminine laughter echoes throughout the streets of your little town.
It had been like this for hours on end.
With a huff, you swing your legs over the side of the bed, and your right hand delivers a quick slap to wake yourself even more.
If this is how it is going to be; then you might as well make the most of it.
Curling your toes as the surprising electric shock of cold wood quirks your system, a chill creeps through you, settling deep in your spine. The duvet calling your name must be ignored for now, and with that, you make your way to the kitchen.
Smoke tendrils float among the remaining cloud of puff as deep amber lips pull in another sharp inhale. The hot air burns like a delight through her as she sits in her own bubble.
She was so over it, sitting on the porch with her shoulders leaned back and her cigarette resting easily in her right hand was the first break she had gotten all night, these girls are loud. And not the fun kind.
Hyena cackles pierce her ears as one of Wanda’s many friends tells another miserably boring joke on the other side of the, thankfully, closed door.
“For fucks sake ladies, it’s not that funny” She mumbles to herself as the rest of the women join in on the animalistic laughter, this is the downside of having ears and eyes everywhere, she supposes.
Her right ring finger taps the side of the burning stump, the texture familiar and soothing. Pieces of ash fall like snowflakes, clustering in a pile beside leather boots.
She is just about to stomp the thing out when one of the neighbor’s front door opens with a little too much force. Wood crashes against wood, the planks behind the heavy thing indenting and chipping the paint, as the door slams into the sidewall of the suburb house.
A young woman curses herself as she looks at the damage she caused while trying to balance the multitude of trash bags she is clutching.
With an amused smirk, the older woman leans forward, tilting her body to get the best view of the younger thing. Her blouse shifts and bunches where the silk is hastily stuffed into dress pants worth half of your rent.
You groan as you feel a pair of eyes study you from afar. People these days.
With a puff of air, you blow away the small whisk hairs that cling to your sweaty forehead, “You know, it wouldn’t hurt you to help a girl out.” You turn around to what you assumed was going to be just another one of Wanda’s familiar friends.
She had people over almost every weekend, so some faces were hard to forget, however, when you finally lock eyes with the rude woman, she is nothing like you expected.
With her head thrown back in an almost cruel laughter, you can see the wide expanse of her neck, dark hair falls freely in subtle waves. In one of the hands, the older woman clutches the outer plank of the porch, while the other one grips an almost burned-out cigarette.
You shift from one foot to the other, the weight of trash in your hands almost forgotten as you can’t help but admire her for a moment.
Yeah, she is nothing like the redhead’s other friends at all…
You almost startle as a teasing voice responds to you with delight, “Oh, you are a fun surprise sweet plum.” The woman crushes her cigarette under sturdy black boots, the sizzle of burning leaves dying out much like the flame.
You simply stare at her, even her voice is so different from the other women around these parts.
She struts toward you with confidence even a man couldn’t muster.
Frozen on the spot you would barely notice when she takes two-thirds of the bags if it wasn’t for the way her fingers so deliberately brush against yours. You don’t dare look down, but as you feel cool metal against your warm skin, you know her fingers are decorated with only the best.
“Excuse my bad manners, let me get that for you, honey.”
Her lip lifts into a mean smirk, and the hint of wrinkles just makes her all the more alluring. You can’t tell if you want to drown in her eyes or run away from them as fast as possible.
She is already halfway down your driveway before you can get a peep out, and you follow with haste.
Throwing both yours and her trash into your big bin at the end of the driveway she asks you if you would like to join her for a smoke, you can tell by the repressed giggle that she doesn’t think you will take her up on it.
Which only makes it all the sweeter when you get to surprise her with an easy, “Yes, I would love to.”
For a moment she is the one frozen to the pavement as she studies you, her eyes squinting as if she believes you to be joking. Her eyes travel up and down your younger frame, pausing for a moment on your chest, but you decide that you probably imagined that bit.
Wishful thinking or whatnot.
A soft tongue swipes across dark red lips before the mysterious woman regains her composure and laughs with mirth, drowning out the other ladies, you can’t help but think she looks beautiful when she laughs like that. All, carefree and happy.
She tilts her head toward you, her hands letting go of the bin´s handle and instead reaching out for you to take,
“Well then sugar, I'm Agatha.”
You take it with as firm of a grip as you can manage, “Y/n.”
That’s how it started, with a cloud of smoke surrounding the both of you while you share silly stories from childhood.
And that was the end of it too, she was funny and sassy, but she never came over much to the Maximoff house, so you figured that would be the end of your little connection.
How naïve you are.
There is audible whining as the deep magic slides against your body, it holds your torso and legs tight against the comforter. You try and free yourself with grasping hands but with a quick turn of the older woman’s delicate wrist the magic shifts and turns until it takes ahold of your wrists and pins them down beside your head.
“Don’t be like this baby…” A smooth voice slithers itself into the vast expanse of your mind, almost like she never said it out loud, just forced it into your thoughts.
The sheets rustle as you wring and struggle. The purple void closes in, tightening around you, forcing you still.
You feel numb as your limbs give in to the older woman.
“Good girl. That’s it, baby…” Your eyes feel heavy, and you can’t seem to keep them open. You feel a warm breath against your midsection as the words glide over warm skin.
Before you can comprehend who, the voice belongs to, the tendrils vibrate against you in excitement, and you gasp for air as they close in on the delicate spot between your legs.
You can’t help the moan that escapes you as one of the stronger tendrils drags itself in an up-and-down motion against your sensitive clit.
You can’t even recall when you stripped your clothes, but the purple sorcery delights in it. The feeling is almost like pure lust submerging itself within you.
It crawls up your body, one sticks to that sticky spot between soft thighs, while the others spread against you. Like wildfire, they spread and absorb your every thought. One of them settles like a set of warm hands against your bare chest. Teasing taught nipples.
Another one forces your mouth open, and slides against your tongue, firming into the feeling of ghost fingers. They drag gently over your lips when they are coated enough.
Then it drifts lower as the one against your clit speeds up.
Your back pulls like a taught string, if this doesn’t let up, you will break soon. The purple tendril against your pulsating weak point hardens. You gasp for air, and finally, you can breathe, the continuous assault against your body is now over, and you relax a little into the sheets.
“Oh fuck!”  Your eyes roll to the back of your skull.
You let out a breathy whine as the purple mystery is replaced by the feeling of wet fingers pushing into you. They force their way past your lips and enter you without any problem.
Another moan fills the heavy air, but this one isn’t from you. It’s deeper, passion laid within it like an accent.
“That’s it, honey, hop like a bunny for me.” When the feeling of cruel eyes prickles the back of your neck, you finally make the connection.
You wake up with a gasp, hands clutching the sheets like your life depends on it.
Your eyebrows scrunch together as you huff in annoyance, if you were going to keep having these dreams, they may as well let you finish. With your eyes still closed, one of your hands releases the smooth silk and glides down your bare stomach, then you stop to a halt.
Placing your hand back on the soft material you open your eyes in wonder, you most definitely do not own silk…
The first thing you see when your senses return to you is expensive sheets, in a deep purple shade, then as your eyes wander your heart races.
This is not your house.
“Ah, you are finally awake.” You startle as the feminine voice calls out to you from across the room.
“That was a close one wasn’t it honey? You are dripping all over the sheets.” Agatha sits in the armchair in front and center of where you lay gasping.
Her legs crossed; she cradles a cup of tea in her left hand. Narrow eyes study you as you scramble to cover yourself only to find that you can’t move any longer.
The deep purple is back as your wrists get pushed back into the bed. The mattress hugging you close as the purple weight of restraint takes hold of you yet again.
The chuckle that escapes Agatha is cruel and unstoppable, it builds within her, crawling up her stomach until she can’t help but voice it. She can see the realization dawn all over your face, the feeling of eyes in the back of your neck, the strange dreams, the never-ending teasing of naughty dreams for her own pleasure.
The lack of memory, the restraint deep within your bones, all because of this woman.
After your little meeting all those weeks ago you had heard stories about her, the rumors, the purple aura that seems to follow her everywhere she goes. However, not once did you believe the petty gossip of the redheads’ other friends, that was your first mistake.
Now you understand, they were all true.
After all…
It was Agatha all along.
And as she pushes herself into your mind yet again and forces you into yet another dream that will keep you just on the edge, Agatha Harkness is one wicked witch.

pairing: caregiver!mama!Loki x little!reader
(loki uses she/her here ☺️)
summary: your mama helps you pick out your first ever pacifier.
cws: none that i can think of except for tooth rotting fluff! please let me know if something needs to be listed. /gen
a/n: hi guys! long time no see! i've been reading some neil gaiman books recently and it's been inspiring me.
"Alright darling," Mama gestured to the coffee table in front of her that was absolutely full of pacifiers. "All of your options are right here."
There were greens and blues and purples. Reds, and oranges, pinks and yellows, too. Some of the pacis had polka dots and some were plain. A few had pretty decorations. Some even had rainbow squiggles, too!
It was a wonderful sea of colors that captured your little mind. Nothing else mattered. Just you and Mama and...
THE ARRAY OF PACIFIERS SHE MADE APPEAR OUT OF THIN AIR!
You still couldn't believe it...
How did Mama do that?!
"Spark?"
Your wide eyes moved towards the sound of Mama's voice.
"Honed in on the pacifiers, are we?" Loki chuckled.
"Mhm!"
You liked the sparkle in Mama's eyes. It reminded you of bright, shining stars and the twinkle lights in your bedroom. It meant she was happy, and you liked when your Mama was happy.
"Which of these lovely pacifiers makes you want to squeaaaal in delight?" Your mama suddenly tickled you while she spoke, enunciating her words.
You giggled and giggled.
And giggled and giggled some more.
"I don't-" you stopped and let out a breathy laugh. "Don knoooow, mama! Too hard!"
Your mama finally relented. "Ooh, I understand that. When I ascended the throne to Asgard, I had to choose between allllll of these wonderfully colorful garments and jewelry I-"
You stared at Loki, your lips slightly ajar and your brows furrowed tightly. Your adorable face blatantly had confusion written all over it.
Your mama shook her head softly. "Nevermind that, moving on! Let's see here..." Her eyes scanned the pacifier filled coffee table. "How about this one here, with the cute little turtle on it?"
You shook your head and scrunched your face.
"No? Alright...hmmm." She paused a moment to think. "Oh! How about this one with the-"
You stuck out your tongue. "Blagghhh."
"No problem, darling." Loki threw it swiftly behind her. "Definitely not that one, then- OH!"
Your beautiful eyes were wide and practically glowing. If life was a cartoon, you'd have hearts for eyes.
"OoOooOOO!" you exclaimed in intrigue.
The pacifier with which your eyes were glued on had your favorite animal on it and it was your favorite color! It was so very, very perfect.
"Aha! We've found your match, baby darling." She held it up closer to you. All you could do was stare in amazement.
Finally, a pacifier to call your own. One that'll make you feel content and happy. One that'll make you feel like the most special baby in the whole wide world. No! The universe! A special pacifier for the most special baby in the whole wide universe!
"Mine!" You snatched it and all your Mama could do was grin excitedly.
"Yes, pumpkin, it's all yours."
You quickly slid it into your mouth and slammed your body against Loki, wrapping your arms tightly around her. Your words were less English and more like cute mumbles that Mama just adored. "Thank you, thank you, Mama!"
She laid her head gently atop yours. "Anything for my little one."

Nga yawne lu oer - Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Recom! Miles x Na’vi/Avatar! Fem! Reader – Chapter 1:
Warning: Strong language! Racism, implied smut, kinda character dead, and character revival?
English is not my first language, so if there are any big grammar mistakes, then don’t hesitate to let me know <3
Also it’s been years since the last time I wrote fanfiction so I’ve been a bit nervous about posting this.
Word Count: 1407
Chapter 1: Revived
                                    Miles’ POV
There you were sat looking over some of your samples, and deeply focused. He slowly and carefully walked towards you and when he reached her he leaned down and whispered in her ear.
“Hello Darlin’.”
“Miles.” You said completely ensnared in her samples of some weird plant that she had told him about the night before, though he had listened carefully the aftermath that followed was much more interesting.
“Is that all I get? Not even a thank you for waking you so lovely this morning.” He placed careful kisses on her neck, and she giggled in response.
“As if that weren’t more for your pleasure than mine.”
He turned her chair around and by the laws of nature she followed.
“Are you saying that you didn’t enjoy it? Because I recall you begging me not to stop, I even think you ripped some strands of hair out.” Their noses were touching and he could hear her breath getting shallow and he could see her pupils dilating, and her eyes flickered down to his lips.
“Oh no I enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong. Though I do feel kinda bad for not returning that delightful treatment.”
He licked his lips and responded “Oh don’t worry you have all the time in the world for the rest of the day if you just put away whatever you are doing right now, I have made arrangements for everything so you have nothing else to worry about, little Miles is cared for for the rest of the night.”
“Oh really?” You licked your lips and just as your lips were about to touch his, everything went black.

“Colonel, colonel.”
Miles ears were ringing at the loud sound, but at the same time the sound felt so far away. But the only thing he had on his mind was a name “(y/n)?”
Though when he opened his eyes, he didn’t see his beautiful angel, no he saw a monster, a big blue ugly monster to be exact. His first response was to punch the fucker in the face, and so he did, he fought against all the other monsters, until he was restrained.
“Colonel it’s me!” Said the first ugly monster that he had punched, though the monster for some reason looked oddly familiar.
“Lyle? Is that you?”
And it wasn’t only just Lyle he realized. It was also Z-dog, Mansk and Fike, and so many more, but they were all… blue. Miles found some comfort in them being dressed normal and having their tattoos, and at least they weren’t wearing the skimpy clothing of the savages “They are not savages Miles, they have feelings like you and I. They have families and laws. They are people, not mindless beasts”, he could hear your angelic voice scolding him in his head.
“I’m alright.” Upon Miles saying that and relaxing his body, his squad members freed him. Though looking behind Lyle he caught the glimpse of something in the window. He pushed Lyle to the side and brazed his hand on the window, and upon looking into his own eyes he was shocked. His eyes weren’t bright blue, no they were yellow. His nose was almost flat. His ears pointy and sat way to high on his head. His scar was nonexistent. And his tan skin was not tan anymore, no it was blue. He looked like them, he looked like those savages, “Not savages Miles,” once again he could hear your voice, but he shoved it to the back of his mind. And when he ran his tongue over his teeth, he could feel fangs. He had become what he hated the most. He had become a disgusting monster. He felt the rage and disgust deep in his bones and flowing through his veins.
“Well. Ain’t this a bitch.”
Tumblr media
“In case you haven’t figured it out yet, you’re Colonel Miles Quaritch. Only younger, taller, bluer and not nearly as good looking.” Miles was looking at his human self, talking to his bigger blue self.
“Hey Parker! What the hell am I supposed to say now?” Miles saw the video, and laughed a bit internally at his human self claiming that he of course wouldn’t die. Because yeah right, he wouldn’t be here if it weren’t because the original Miles Quaritch died. Like the rest of the recombinants, he obviously didn’t know how he died, but knowing those savages it hadn’t been pretty. Though he couldn’t help but wonder what had happened to you, his reason for fighting so hard, all so that he could give you a safe and comfortable future. He prayed that those savages hadn’t even as much as breathed in your presence. And he prayed that before his demise he had said those three little words that he never could muster up the courage to say, and most of all he hoped that both of you were safe.
Tumblr media
A few days later found Miles meeting General Ardmore, and Miles had to remind himself that he was never one for punching people and that his mama had raised him better than that, but damn that woman just rubbed him the wrong way. Well technically everyone at the base did, they all looked at them like one would look at a freakshow, and while Miles could understand in some way, it still annoyed him.
The meeting with the general resulted in her wanting him and his squad of big blue misfits to fly out and look for the traitor Jake Sully, the man who was at fault for everything in his life ending wrong. The team landed in the Pandoran jungle, and Miles felt weird the moment he stepped out of the helicopter, but on the looks of the rest of the time he was not alone. They trekked through the jungle for a bit and had already had the displeasure of seeing some of the monsters living in the jungle. They were all highly alert, every sound made their ears twitch, and their tail were whipping around. “Ouch Fike, control your fucking tail!” Hissed Zdinarsk.
“Oh sorry have I made her highness sad?” Fiked replied mockingly and hit Zdinarsk with his tail once more.
“You little-“
“Hey! Stop acting like young cadets and get the fuck moving. We are in the middle or a hostile environment, so we don’t have time for this kindergarten bullshit” Quaritch quickly got his recombs under control, but he could already feel a vein popping out on his forehead. Suddenly Quaritch caught something out of the corner of his eye, it looked like one of those science shack outposts and in front of it a little away there was lying something metallic covered by roots, and moss and Miles had a feeling he knew what this was and who it belonged to, so it was a surprised when he bend down a removed the roots that his last name was ‘staring’ him right back in the face, and when he looked in the suit, he was met with a skeleton with two arrows protruding from its or rather his chest, he touched the arrows, before standing up and inspecting the inside of the shack thing, and then he turned to Lyle, “Lyle see if you can pull some data of that dashcam.”
The recoms continued patrolling for awhile and Miles couldn’t believe his luck, when he and his squad caught little savages snooping around. And not only savages but halfbreeds with four fingers and a thumb meaning that they were his. And of course, after being given the finger by a male halfbreed, he turned to the human boy with blue stripes painted all over his body. “What’s your name kid?”
“Spider… Socorro.”
No. No it couldn’t be.
Quaritch kneeled so that he could be more eye to eye with the boy.
“Miles?”
