Okay, I NEED a Moiraine Damodred story, or you know... a one shot... Reader hasn't seen Moiraine in 20 years. They had a thing going on before they went their separate ways to do their duties. The last time they were together, Moraine left with no note and did not say a word. When they saw each other again, Reader is stoic, almost appearing emotionless in order to hide her hurt. Eventually, Moiraine broke through her walls, and they made up for lost time. Sorry it's so long 😅 I really love this character, though.
Part One
The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills. Few knew that better than you. With your eyes made of the same thread as the Wheel wove with, you had long since learning there was no fighting its will. That's why you hated these recent visions. You knew you had no choice but to find the Dragon with the liar. You said not a word on your travels, but it seemed that was the way they traveled.
Three Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah chased down a young man, them on horseback, him on foot. You felt vindicated in your choice to leave the White Tower. You and Moiraine watched the man with Power, but only you saw. The strong weaves of Power, binding him up. Head to toe, he was trying to be good, but the Dark One had a hold over Men's Power. Your Talent had been more difficult to decipher since leaving the familiar forest. But the Wheel hardly cared for the man, but for his potential, had he not been rendered mad.
"Well?" Moiraine prompted impatiently.
You mounted your horse, leaving before he was gentled. The scream followed your cowardice. You could never take on three full Sisters - let alone of the Red Ajah - and Moiraine would take it to mean "save him. He's the already mad Dragon". You wouldn't lie, but you really didn't want Moiraine to have any excuse. You mounted your horse and rode off into the Woods. When on a real mission, you would trace the weaves of nature because anyone who channels interacts with their surroundings on a fundamental level. But the Dragon Reborn had not walked these woods or any other you'd crossed in a thousand years. But after Moiraine had you continue your channeling proclivities, you could feel the fire of a thousand lives, the Power of the sun so absolute in its Light. And you finally understood the bad dreams and tempting whispers in the back of your mind. It was the Dark One, waking and stirring a new army. He wanted anything and everyone, and you were easy pickings all alone. But you weren't one to surrender.
"We're stopping for the night," Moiraine commanded suddenly. She knew you could and would ride all night, but the time for that would come. She led on instead of you, reclaiming control of the mission even from the seer. She purchased two rooms, one far away from everyone, so of course you went in that direction.
What you didn't expect was the Aes Sedai to follow you. You were coatless and in your simple tunic and trousers, but you felt naked. "Were you planning on taking this room?" you asked in a clipped, but not rude tone.
The brunette stared you down. "Oh, we're talking now?"
She, however, did have some sass. It grated your nerves. "Who's fault was our silence? Oh, yes, she who only asks questions," you snipped back. You took a deep breath, reminding yourself not to let her under your skin.
The ever-wise, all-knowing Blue Aes Sedai followed your lead and took her own deep breath. "I was hoping we could talk," she offered. Moiraine Sedai was a force of nature. She did as she pleased when she pleased. She brought lightning and threw Trolloc armies. So how was was she so nervous? She stood before you, hands joined in anxious expectancy.
You waited until you huffed, turning away. "So, talk," you ordered. "I did my fair share." You didn't mean for that to slip out.
The beautiful blue eyes that you loved narrowed with a wince. No you did not feel bad. "I deserve that," she muttered but nothing else.
Eventually, your patience ran out as it always did. You threw your hands up, done with her continued silence. "I'll get my own room!" No, your voice was not strained, certainly not from emotions. You didn't have any for her anymore.
Moiraine grabbed your wrist. "No." She stared at you with the intensity she'd looked at you with as novices. But she'd had the current Amyrlin in those days. She lowered her chin, holding your gaze. She rarely spoke so you had been used to her long looks. You loved them as much as her, just like your kisses. "Twenty years ago, I left without a word. Written or verbal. Cowardly of me, I know. I'm usually so eloquent, words and phrasing coming to me as if I was destined to say them. But if I loved you any less, I might be able to speak of it more. Or at all."
You stared at her, frozen. "L-love?" you repeated poorly.
"Don't make me say it again. It was hard enough the first time," Moiraine snapped strainedly.
"You don't get to do that! I tried, and tried. But you couldn't give any. I needed to know. Well, now I don't. I don't love you and I don't need your words. You went to walk past her, but the stubborn, spoiled woman caught your wrist again. You wanted to argue, but you were a bit busy refamiliarizing yourself with her taste after she dragged you against her.
Her lips pressed against and pulled at yours and you found yourself living in the emotions. It was like no time had passed. But it had. Twenty lonely years had left you cold and closed off. And anyway, she only wanted you for your Talent. Once she had the Dragon, her renewed feelings would fade.
You stopped moving against her and said nothing as she pulled back, hurt. Still you didn't react, besides leaving the room.
Moiraine had many an idea the next morning and the mission was all she mentioned. Her Warder likely felt the sting of rejection and needed no explanation. Now that they had an immediate Dragon detector, they would strategically travel the continent and visit every city, town, village. You liked your plan better and you'd had nothing to track.
Luckily, you were already fairly close to the Mountains of Mist and you felt a pull out that way. "I'd like to start out by Baerlon. Even if we just pass through on the way to the coast."
You didn't expect the Aes Sedai to listen to you, prepared to follow the feeling alone, but it was a whole surprise to find her looking at you. She had that intensity again, making your stomach flutter. "If that's what you want," she consented in an earnest tone, with an honest expression. That felt manipulative.
But, in any event, you got what the world needed. And where you were actually looking for, you felt out, was the Two Rivers. The people were wary of outsiders and most refused to acknowledge the wisdom and superiority Moiraine carried herself with. There was the usual fear and respect, but the public's awe had diminished to nothing since your day. Lan had an aura which made people give him a wide berth. You looked neither wealthy or war-torn so you blended best. There was a Beltine celebration in full swing when you arrived so the whole village was there. Having multiple Ta'veren, people deeply connected to the Wheel, in the same room blew you away. Five young people had weaves binding each to their respective fates, but one drew took it in and he shone gold. You saw the essence of Light. You stared into the auburn Sun.
The Dragon Reborn was a man again. Your heart sunk. He would be vulnerable to the madness again. And, again, Moiraine paid for two rooms. Lan traveled to his alone. You wanted to argue again, but you had results now. This was an ok idea because you had something to say. The owner of the inn led you to your shared room, and your mind was understandably occupied. You didn't say anything in the immediate isolation, taking a petty page from your ex's book. You took your coat off, tossing it onto the bed. You paused and stared. There was only one bed.
You turned to look at Moiraine over your shoulder, ready to argue, but she stood naked before you, beside a bath. Your jaw went lax and you were defenseless when she came toward you. "I knew you'd seen the Dragon when you didn't notice I got us a single room. Plus you were quiet." She began undressing you, but you were caught, stuck like a fly in a web. "Words have never worked with you. Nor actions so you'll get both. I've spent two decades on a mission, sacrificed too much, and almost lost hope, and then I saw you in a dream. The whole package, the Mistress had said to describe you. And you are. Everything. You're the answer." Your eyes were a bit misty, but you held firm. "I loved you then and I love you now. And I will tell you that every day, for the rest of your life, because I plan to be there."
You were naked and crying and, over the course of her speech, the bath behind her had heated up substantially. You gasped out your attempt of a response, which ended up just behind defensive stutters. "Shut up," you finally huffed out, exasperated at herself.
It was like you were novices again. She looked so happy with that pure smile. "Make up your mind," she mockingly ordered, pulling you with her as she neared the tub.
Your brain worked at the speed of tar, stalling until it finally clicked. You were sat beside your old lover by the time you realized you were both naked and in a bath, in a room with a single bed. "Manipulative..." You quit fighting. You moved to straddle her, cupping her neck, "Aes Sedai," you rolled your leg between hers, watching her fall apart under you, "of the Blue Ajah." The mighty former heir to the Sun Throne, powerful Sister, squirmed as you teased her with your lips almost touching hers, one hand fondling her breast, rolling against her cunt with your thigh. She was whining and moaning loudly, head limp against the rim of the tub. "Entitled to so much, following your Order, taking what you please!" you sang in your own mocking. You pulled away, knees on the inside of hers, prying and holding them apart. You massaged her thighs as you plied her neck with your lips. "Take it," you growled out, plunging two fingers into her slick channel. She ground her hips, but you held your wrist so she received no friction. She was a sweet, weak little thing once you had your hands on her. You wondered if she'd gone so long without it or if.... No, she'd gone too long without it. You were much the same. You added a third finger and Moiraine pulled you closer by the back, fingernails raking hot red marks down your back.
Her breaths came in brief and in part. Heavy lidded eyes looked down her nose at you, sophisticated and superior as ever. They fell shut as her eyes rolled back. She was broken beneath you, held in a perfect point right before she would crash. Her swan-long neck arched and your lips marked her as you pleased.
You kitten-licked down her neck, along her chest, and sucked on her tit, biting briefly. Then your thumb lightly flicked her hard, untouched clit. She jerked with each surprise touch. You kissed her lips for the first time in 20 years and cupped her precious slick cunt, rubbing the heel of your palm where she wanted friction most and curling lightly but gradually harder. Full contact broke her brain a bit, making you smile at every sexy, unabashed reaction. She was so rarely unrestrained. She bucked wantonly and without care for her appearance. The prim princess had a mess of her brown hair, covered in a layer of sweat, moaning and arching against you. You bit her bottom lip as you began pounding her throbbing hole, swallowing every moan. You were slow and gentle as you moved to hold and pet her as she came down, chest heaving. You easily lifted her from the tub, setting her on the side of it to dry her off.
"Did Lan feel that?" you mumbled against her scalp, letting her hide her sudden blush in your neck.

Lord of Chaos - Robert Jordan 4,25/5 stars
Jot-it-down-as-it-happens commentary under the cut.
-Wait, how did we capture Moghedien? We last left her in the Dream World, right?
-No shit, she was one of the three on the ship?
-”Can you blush?” Lmfao, poor Rand.
-”Heroes had a bad habit of getting killed.”
-Oooh, I see Mat has had some emotional development, nice.
-The book, less than a couple hundred pages in: “For once, everything would turn out as Mat expected.” Me, a seasoned reader: No.
-A Forsaken in the White Tower? Oooh.
-Wh… Why did Alanna make Rand her Warder
-No! Galad could be Rand’s half-brother then?!
-”What had to be endured, could be.”
-Did Mat just beat an Aielman
-”Elenia spoke of these people as if she knew them personally, but [Rand’s] head was spinning with names he had never heard before” - me when reading The Wheel of Time.
-Yay, Nynaeve Healed Logain!
-I can’t decide if Egwene as the Amyrlin Seat is a little too far-fetched for comfort. It seems terrifying to me, but she seems to be taking to it quite fast.
-Wow, Rand sure is very happy to see Min.
-Idk man, yes, the Black Tower pairs with the White Tower, but also with the Black Ajah etc…
-Man, who WAS Taim to Lews Therin?
-Thirteen Aes Sedai now :(
-It’s such an arguably small thing, but the sass of Rand calling Merana just Merana, we stan.
-Well, yes, the chest and the servants, Rand. As we suspected.
-Yay, Logain’s escaping!
-We are going after Rand, things are happening!
-No no no no, I don’t like this, don’t torture Rand, I don’t like this
-The wolves are coming :’) [in retrospect, the wolves had surprisingly little mention in the battle]
-The saidin students! The saidin students!
-Yesss, Rand, break free! We’re soaring! We’re flying!
-Taim commanding male channelers, asnjsnjkdjn, this is so cool, stop.
-Whoa, Rand told Taim to make weapons and he fulfilled the assignment a little too efficiently.
-“The first nine Aes Sedai swore fealty to the Dragon Reborn, and the world was changed forever.” Ooh, I got chills.
-Thing is. By the time I get to the end, I’ve half-forgotten the meandering that it took to get to the last exciting 100 pages and I’m like FOUR STARS! FIVE STARS! STARS ALL AROUND! Like, “How did we get here?” “Idk, man, I’ve been reading this book for the better part of a month or something.”

okay i have finished all of the available episodes (1-3 as of writing this post) so far and I have Thoughts
[again with the disclaimer: *I have not read the source material, I know nothing, I'd never even heard of this piece of media until I saw a trailer a week ago and said ???* I also have horrifying name retention so bear with me]
That being said:
blacksmith widower guy is wholesome as all get out and I'm going to sob if literally anything happens to him
The Girl Of The Group™ could literally do whatever she wants and she's valid. Love her.
redhead is coming around, he was on thin ice but again I know nothing so maybe he's just got a lot to learn about life. he could have cut and run back home but he's sticking around and hecked right out when barmaid started making moves so good for him
sad floppy boy feels like he's being set up to be the bad guy and I sigh sadly. he just wants to keep his sisters safe. was he a little dumb and took a potentially cursed dagger, yes. but we forgive a doofus - who among us wouldn't do that, honestly? anyways, he dresses in dark colors and has dark hair and dark facial hair and steals as a hobby and talks smooth, if he manages to make it without being The Dark One, I'll be pleasantly shocked.
very excited that the wisdom lady is still around, loving the tension there. she seems great. i'm going to assume she and the ward? is that what sword guy is called? are the one that is going to be carrying the party brain cell so excited to see that.
Ward guy (yeah, i think that was right) is awesome, he is basically one half of the dnd characters I make so i'm vibing with him hardcore. we love a protective grump with sass.
and the aes sedai (thank you lovely person for the spelling on my last post) lady, rosamund pike, is the other half of the dnd characters i make so also vibing there but she's also been asleep for most of these episodes so, be interested to see what happens there. not ashamed at all to say that she is 99% of the reason i'm here.
anyways, apparently theres a new episode today? can't wait to find out more! if y'alls fandom is as feral as any of mine are, i hope this post finds you well and i hope my cluelessness was a bit of entertainment for you

In lieu of the season finale, I'd like to talk about something that has been pointed out to me multiple times (specifically by cishet males). I'd like to preface this by saying this isn't a criticism because I'm pretty sure it's intentional (and if it's unintentional, the show should work on either dialling it back or making it a plot point). But I want to talk about feminism and the empowerment of women in WoT.
Don't get mad just yet, I'm on your side!
Just a few times I've seen men shown as less powerful than women, or "weaker":
Logain in Tar Valon: he comes in, he's all big and bold and sasses the Amyrlin Seat, and then at a few words from her, he crumples. He's led away in tears, kicking and screaming, not great for his honor...
Rand in the Blight: saying it was meant to be Egwene, even though canonically the Dragon can only be male. And moiraine not refuting that.
The Aes Sedai: come on, the White Tower is a huge threat to any male, like they have Warders that they can bond (non-consensually in the books) and the trainees who'll eventually become Warders, but otherwise its completely female-run.
The Seanchan: look at that boat from episode 8. The men were clearly just there as guard dogs, and it was the d*mane that held all the power.
Every single ruler: has an Aes Sedai whispering in their ear. That's a lot of power for women to hold. Are you starting to see a pattern? Good.
Min and Dana(sp?) : both shown as strong women who take no shit from men, who can clearly hold their own. They look cool, they act cool, they may be "barmaids" but they can and will kick your ass. (Yes, she was a darkfriend. She was cool before we found that out.)
Moiraine: she has a man who follows her around like a puppy and never questions her. He appears to be around for her to order around, and to protect her and that's about it. (Shh, no moiraine bashing here, that's how the world was built)
Lan: when he does get his own story, it's falling in love with a powerful woman who (as far as we know) doesn't need anyone. (Yes, his arc expands later, but let's focus on this season.) She makes all the moves in the relationship, and yet he's the one spouting his feelings for her, asking her to stay the night, etc. (We love the Lan speech! It's adorable and the first time I read it I cried)
Now, take all those instances and swap the genders. Thank you. Doesn't it look a lot like our modern world, when you swap the genders? Yeah. Makes you wonder why so many of my friends and YouTubers* online are spitting mad about women being in power. And yet they don't bat an eye when they see it in the real world.
*the amount of videos I've watched that are like oh warders can't fuck each other, oh women have so much power, oh there aren't any sexualised prostitutes (cough cough witcher), oh women are shown as human beings not objects... sorry, I'm a little mad about this.
Now I don't know if this was a conscious choice that the people in charge made. And I cannot tell you whether it's a good or bad thing, because I, as a book fan, am terribly biased. And also you have critical thinking skills for a reason. You come to your own conclusions.
All I can say is, if people are feeling uncomfortable at the amount of power imbalance. If people think that women are abusing their power in certain situations (as we shall see very soon). If people are wondering why men aren't given the "respect they deserve" and why they're "crying" and "having feelings", then I would like to ask how they missed it all in the books. Women had just as much power in the books, maybe more.
But now that the show has explored that facet just the slightest bit, people are up in arms about it being feminist and modern and catering to women. Okay then, sorry to burst your bubble but the real world is patriarchal and backward and catering to men. So if the power imbalance in WoT makes you uncomfortable, why doesn't the power imbalance in the real world make you uncomfortable?

Just watched episode 7.
I SERIOUSLY AM CRYING. AGAIN. I don't understand. I have 3 feelings on any given day. But turn on WoT and I Will Ugly Cry in seconds. But she's fighting so fucking hard!!!! The way they showed it, the fucking desperation. Fuck fuck fuck. Damn Moiraine. I wondered if she's suspicious? Thanks Loial, I support you being the voice of reason. Poor Rand. That had to hurt to say for Nynaeve, but Loial is trustworthy. Aha, that makes sense. Moiraine would rather leave Mat than risk him turning to the Dark One. Satisfied with the explanation - it did bug me. But wait, if they can't channel how do you get out??? I just love all this cool advanced shit being ruined and used by people thrown into the virtual dark ages. LAN AND NYNAEVE. Perrin??? ARE THEY GIVING YOU SOME PLOT TIME MY GOOD WOLF BOY? I think they are! Still bitter though. I see the Egwene/Rand shippers are being fed. Good for them. Hold up, is it mister Padan Fain??? I HEARD THAT WHISTLING. Whoopsie. Here Comes The Sunnnnnn by sun I mean wind. Who the fuck was standing there?? I can't pause and go back but I SAW YOU VILLAIN. OH SHIT OH SHIT PERRIN. Guy being pissed off about Aes Sedai bugging him. "Actually no. Awkward. Anyway." Sister: WHAT DID I SAY. Oh we whistle while we work, da da dun dun dun dun duuuuun. I knew it. Fain you motherfucker. I seriously love Amalisa's dress? Rut roh. MOIRAINE. MOIRAINE YOU DIDN'T. I mean I don't think they can do much with Mat. But still. Moiraine: are they following, they'd better - wait, wait oh shit have I obtained children? Eww. Nynaeve, maybe you should trust Perrin on this one. I think Perrin has spoken more in this episode so far than he has all season. MINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN MIN MIN MIN MIN MIN MIN MIN. Rand "But, fish? Is fish meat?" Baby idiot. Min "The fuck did you bring to my doorstep Moiraine?" Interesting way to show the viewings. A baby. Really Min. Sass bucket. I love that they're managing to laugh together, it's cute. Moiraine is in rough shape, and dropping bombs. Good point, if you believe it, that could make it your truth. OUCH Egwene. But fair. Oh shit, the kids are fighting! They are going with Perrin and Egwene, good lord. Not sure I like it though. But. Whelp. OH BOY. OH BOYYYYYY. Rand that was a sad smile. Take it back. Wait. Hold the fuck up. Does Perrin love RAND? I'm so confused. Nynaeve if you cry I'm gonna cry please don't. God those suspenders make me feel extra gay. Gayer than usual. BFF says I Support Your Crush. NYNAEVE YOU FUCKING STALKER. BUSTED. I cannot handle them I cannot they're so fucking cute. Cannot cannot CANNOT. Crying again. jfc. The family is supportive. We love to see it. Okay I had to pause for at least five minutes. So that happened. omg. omg it's goodnight. ARE THEY GONNA. GUYS. GUYS GUYS GUYS. ARE THEY GONNA KISS??????????????????????????????? )(*#%&$()$&*%)(#$&*%(*& k bye. Nynaeve: ???? If you need me I'll be dead on the floor. I love that Daniel Henney said "I will be the naked one" for the show. I mean maybe he didn't, but that's what we get. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH The Lan/Nynaeve shippers are THRIVING. I am one of them and I regret none of it. Grumpy baby what you doing. Wait the slow down, the flame in the void??? Rude. BABIES. Rand you are so fucking great. I love you. You sweet baby angel. He says "I got your flower babe" no question. Okay if they give us all the smooching and then cut to Perrin being sad I will fucking lose my shit. LOSE IT. Okay instead we cut to Nynaeve being sad. Don't say we got that moment and they're gonna ruin it. Okay good they're not. Lots of Okays to make up for the fact that I am NOT okay. "I'm sorry, King? Did you say... king? As in king king?" Oh Nynaeve. Oh man. DON'T MAKE ME SAD SHOW. DON'T MAKE ME SAD. brb crying. Oh you fucking bastards. I knew we'd get the woods. Fuck fuck fuck. Here we go flame and the void!!!!!!!! FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH the sequel. Min: do not try it man. Good dad Tam!!! Eww cgi baby is weird do not like it. Shaiel???? No :( I'm gonna cry. I knew it was going to happen STILL GONNA CRY. I'm so glad the fucking revealed him being the Dragon guys. You don't even know the struggle non book fans. The struggle has been INTENSE. THREE WOMEN. THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Wait is Rand going to go without everybody??? Honey you had better fucking not go alone. Nynaeve isn't there we have bigger fish to fry Egwene. Cuties stop being so cute. We need to focus. We need to focus on Rand. Look Perrin exists. Show isn't shafting him AGAIN. Oh wait, IT IS. But guys RAND. Yeah, GOOD QUESTION. Oh god he's going to tell Moiraine. Moiraine and Rand are going on a deadventure. Nobody is happy. The blight is... not how I expected but definitely interesting? I expected it to be more... wet? And acidic in color? Oh man I have to live with this for a whole week???

Here we go! Wheel of time - episode 2!
Spoilers below! I’m writing my thoughts as I watch.
White cloaks! Fucking white cloaks! God they had a good opening for them. It mirrors the opening with the red ajah so well. Good foreshadowing there.
Again, if you don’t want to be compared to game of thrones, maybe don’t do the cool opening like they had. I know it’s different and it’s beautiful! I love it but I can see where people will compare it.
I’m sad Bella isn’t with them when they’re running away. I see how that’d be hard to portray, but the moment of willing Bella to move faster and she does! I loved that moment in the books.
Not the type of women that hears no…hahah nope! Moraine to a fault! Right there!
Trollocs hate water moment.
VOLDEMORT — I mean Fade.
Aes Sedai are monsters - nice moment. They didn’t take the time to set up that notion before jumping into the story really so this was a nice way of solidifying for people.
Battle of the cheekbones - Rand vs Lan
Nynaeve would fight the aes sedai the whole time— hahahaha foreshadowing.
Mat…I love your sass. You’re my favorite boy.
“Words are important and how we use them is important” mhmmm
One thing, one power. But it’s called different things all over. I loved this concept in the book. True world building.
Floating in a river! Good writing moment. Get it, Egwene!
“You don’t listen to the wind, the wind listens to you” mmmmm
Setting up Rand and Egwene to be each other’s check and balance…I see it. I see what you’re doing show.
Perrin!! My sweet fluffy boy. “Will we ever go back?” ….. oh that hits me hard. Book readers know why.
Egwene - “no.” Ooof! That hits hard too.
Holy fuck! Vomit bat!!!
Oooooo hello pretty dark boy…
Battle of the cheekbones - round 2; enter moraine as a challenger
“Dreams have power. More than you know.” Mmmmhmmmm
They missed an opportunity there for Egwene to call Rand, Sheepherder
“She shoots fireballs, stay on her good side.” Ah, yep. Love Mat.
Again, SCENERY! So beautiful!
White Cloaks — god I hate them. But good acting. Righteous bastards. Music in this scene is great!
“I’m from the borderlands where men know how to keep their hands to themselves.” Get it Lan!! Yessss!!!
Moraine lying was peak AES Sedai. I love it. “Not the truth you think you hear, so listen carefully” mhmmmm goood stuff
All of the ancient ruins of places from before the breaking is making me feel some sort of way!!! Kinda of like Breath of the Wild. I love it.
Yes Mat, you sing!! Yes songs!!.
Minetherian! Yes, history moment!! Eldrwin and Amon moment. Burnt her through. Book readers - foreshadowing moment? Nice camera pan there.
Platonically married Lan and Moraine have the best vibes
Rand already being a stubborn ass is peak Rand.
Rand - “I could never hate you.”
Wolves!!! Perrin!!! My sweet wolf boy! Yes, more wolf moments! Also - that music though!! Yessssssss!
Oh shit!!! Run!
Shadow Logath!!! Shadow Logath!!!
Oh shit, theirs Bella. Okay. I see you my sweet shaggy smart girl. Be safe my baby.
SHADOW FUCKING LOGATH!!! Holy set design! It’s beautiful and haunting and fucking amazing! It’s everything I imagined and more when reading!
MAT!! You sassy boy. *boops him on the nose* listen to the silent scary man.
Again that soundtrack!!!
Perrin and Mat talking; tools vs weapon. I love them, your honor.
Uncomfortable animals is one of my favorite ways to convey something is wrong. Horses know what’s up.
Mat, stop! Bad Mat! Or don’t…I mean…it does literally create your character arc.
Dude, that dagger!!!! Perfection!!
Holy shit!! Horse ash!
Moraine to Lan - “you’ve killed us all.”
SHADOW FUCKING LOGATH!! Man, this is so much like the books for me.
“Hoist me up” “why don’t you hoist me?” …hahaha fun boys
Perrin and Egwene are a fun dynamic. So supportive. Mat and Rand = total chaos. Also a fun dynamic.
“Pretty sure we can.” Mat…my heart!
NYNAEVE!!!! Motherfucking Nynaeve!!!! Knife to the throat!!! Hell yes!!!! God I love her!!!
Okay so overall…I’m in. Like I’m 1000% back into the world of WoT and I’m totally okay with it. I don’t know if that’s the same for none book readers but for me, I’m there! I’m sure I’ll have more reservations later on but I’m falling back into a world that meant so much to me at two very different times in my life and I’m not sure I can express accurately how much my heart is now invested. Even if the show fails at some point, it’s making me want to invest in this world again and for that I’m grateful.

WoT B1C17: a fun ceilidh and oh no it’s all gone wrong
Everyone deals with the intense awkwardness of last chapter by having a ceilidh and dancing it off. It’s all great fun until about midnight, when suddenly there’s a Fade in the inn and the group have to leave in a great hurry. Nynaeve is kind of bundled along with them. At the city gate, some Children of the Light try and stop them, and Lady Rain kind of hulks out at them. It’s great. As they ride off, they see the inn on fire behind them. Nynaeve, who sees things in black and white, yells at Lady Rain about this. She responds by pointing out that Everything Is Morally Grey.
Okay, having been to a couple of ceilidhs myself, the first part of this chapter is really fun. Everyone laughs while dancing, and Rand messes up a couple times because dancing with Nynaeve and Lady Rain makes him nervous, but it doesn’t matter and nobody cares. Nynaeve is laughing. Rand dances with Egg and it’s awkward and silent as they still haven’t spoken since the shouting match, but oh well. It’s a really nice scene. The boys wonder whether they’ve never seen Nynaeve dance before because it’s not the done thing for the Wisdom to dance. Clearly she needs to go adventuring with the others and not spend the rest of her life in one tiny village.
Rand goes to get a glass of milk after the dance, and is suddenly being threatened at swordpoint by a Fade. It has a smooth, dead-pale, eyeless face, and doesn’t move the way things should move. Ten out of ten for being extremely creepy. It doesn’t kill Rand because “you belong to the Great Lord of the Dark”, and then disappears.
Ooookay. So that’s pretty much what the Dark One told Rand, and probably the others, in the dream. There’s got to be something there for the Fade to not have killed him, so, hmm. Could be purely a prophesy thing? Could be that it can somehow see that Rand can do magic, and assumes (rightly or wrongly) that this means he’s been got by the evil sludge in the male side of magic. Could be that it sensed Lan coming, decided killing Rand would take too long, and made a dramatic exit.
Speaking of dramatic exits.
Children of the Light try to stop the group from leaving town in the middle of the night. This doesn’t work out for them, as Lady Rain becomes a giant scary pillar of Nope with big glowy eyes.
This is after we watch them state outright that Rand is a Darkfriend based on him sassing them earlier. And attempt to attack an Aes Sedai with swords. Something tells me they haven’t met a real one before. After Lady Rain’s done being terrifying, she goes back to normal, denies she did anything and mildly suggests that people see weird things in the dark.
Chapter highlight: Rand apologised to Egg! And she seemed to accept it, pretty much. Awkwardness resolving? Hopefully? Yay?

One More Time; Chapter 25

The Aes Sedai traveled together, of course. But it slowed your progress. It took time to collapse the camp so they could move and they had to stop early enough that they weren't too exhausted to put up the tents and everything else before sunset. The Sedai stayed up late, though, as every full Sister convened in the rainbow meeting tent every night for a formal meeting. You suspected it was more drinking than boring work. But, then, why not let the Warders in? They all stood guard outside.
Regardless, each night, Moiraine returned to the blue tent and Lan was in the perimeter rotation. He slept with his Yellow sister most often. Moiraine stopped showing your capabilities or instructing you at all since rejoining her sisters. You knew she had more responsibilities and stressors now, but you couldn't help but worry you'd done something wrong.
You'd taken to wandering the woods around the camp. Slipping away was easy. That's how you knew Moiraine hadn't told anyone you were one of their prophesies; no one was watching you. She spent quite some time with the Yellow as well, occasionally colluding with a pretty Green. You stood by your awareness that nature seemed so much purer in this land. Perhaps it was your new connection with nature, intrinsically related to the Earth, whichever one it was. In any event, traversing the woods felt much headier than in the Loop or the OtherWorld. You felt the trees when you passed them, thriving under the sun. Holding onto its water because it knows things happened, that it might need it. Wildlife paid you no mind as you walked, as if you were as much a part of the forest as they were. You felt running water a while away and the ripples and overlapping and merging soothed you so you just kept going.
"It's not safe so far from camp," a knowing voice called.
Frowning, you turned to find who enchanted the outside of the camp. Only she would know you left. "Every where in the world is equally safe; it's the company that matters."
"Moiraine truly did find a second her. At least you speak," Liandrin sassed, approaching you.
"Is this where you drag me back?"
"No," the blonde answered, continuing to walk past you. "Like you said, it's the company."
You walked with her. "I did." You stayed by her, suspicious.
Liandrin looked at you a few times before bursting into laughter. "Perhaps I just needed to stretch my legs!"
You narrowed your eyes in more obvious suspicion. "And yet you answered the question before it was asked."
"Like I said, you're a lot like Moiraine and I know her."
"But you don't like her," you concluded all by yourself.
That soured Liandrin's structured features. "She made all the wrong choices and still ended up on top." She began rambling with no more encouragement. "Did you know she was one of the fastest novices to progress to Accepted into the Tower?" You shook your head, somehow earning a worse sneer. "And she had a pillow friend, such a frail crutch. She flew through the first trial, reaching Accepted first. You know it wouldn't surprise me if she cheated herself into or through the trial. And to choose Blue of all the shawls. She's secretive and untrustworthy now. Not that she was ever not. Blue was the right Ajah for her, but I know she could have changed." As the Red continued to rant on all the reasons she hated Moiraine, it became more clear to you how much she loved the Blue.
After that info-dump, you weren't sure what to say so you just changed the subject. "So, when are you expected back at the Tower?"
The Red sent you a mildly amused, knowing smile. "Oh, we won't stop at the Tower, but any who wish to go to Tar Valon may, provided the Tower sends a replacement. Enough about my Sisters. Tell me of where you come from."
You weren't sure how to answer that. Much of your world would blow her mind, as theirs had you. "I was living at and attending a school."
"Did you have a specialty?"
You smirked, knowing this would displease her and prove her right. "People-reading," you answered, not in a lie, but not telling her about fairies and their elemental magic. It was enough that Moiraine knew.
As expected, Liandrin soured at your 'specialty'. Little did she know it was truly mind reading and you heard her give you the same underhanded monikers she'd given Moiraine in her head.
You did your best to pretend you didn't know about the sudden change. "What made you choose Red Ajah?"
The woman was still trying to act like nothing had changed and she accepted the change of subject too easily. She stopped walking and turned 90 degrees, holding an arm out to guide you back to the camp. She very clearly thought, 'This conversation is over.'
And not a word was said all the way back to camp.
This massive world was massively annoying. You let your hair loose and paced the Blue tent to release the nervous energy. Once your feet hurt enough from all the walking you'd done, you sat and took off your shoes. You had hardly any time of quiet before it wasn't broken by Moiraine
Her eyes bugged at you and she actually did break the silence. "Where have you been?" And she wasn't quiet about it, storming right up to you. She took your arms. "I was worried sick."
You frowned, slowly trying to disconnect you two.
Moiraine, in turn, used that leverage to haul you to your feet.
You hardened and slapped your arms away from you. "I am not yours to worry for!" you yelled back, at her volume. "I have my own to worry after, and I do!" You advanced on her, so pleased by her retreat you missed her smile.
Before you had the chance to speak another word, Moiraine pulled you in.
You flinched, thinking she was going to kiss you again. You almost felt what you had before, but you were engulfed in warmth and the smell of the essence of the earth. You slowly settled your arms around her.
"Where were you?" she asked emphatically.
Your eyes glowed. You looked over at her shoulder, in the direction of the forest. A deep rumbling unsettled the ground beneath your feet and Moiraine set out for the exit flap first. You were on her heels, watching... monsters flood from the forest line. "No human or human derived, right?" you asked up front. You'd already killed a Burned One, a former human.
"Yes-" was all Moiraine had to utter.
You stepped closer, hoping no one was looking. You'd been wanting to test the limits of Mind Fairy telekinesis and it was an excellent way to release the energy. You simply shoved the molecules you could feel in the monsters, but you didn't really have a direction in mind. Apparently, that mattered because the monsters freaking exploded, pieces blown apart. You froze; then shrugged. You turned to Moiraine. "We need to talk about what happens when we reach Tar Valon."
*
Back in the Blue tent, Moiraine was passionately trying to dissuade you from staying outside the Tower. You hadn't realized she was so intent on you doing just that. It was quite vexing. "No! And I'm done arguing. It's my life, my body, my Power. And I don't trust any of your Sisters."
Moiraine sighed, her hair a frayed mess from the anxiety of your argument. She was touching it and pacing, showing true worry it seemed. You didn't know what to say, but nothing would change this fact. You weren't putting yourself in the snake's pit. "Then trust me," she responded genuinely enough.
You tilted your head sympathetically. "I do, which is why I'm going to your city any way. You can't say I'll have access to the knowledge I need inside the Tower."
That gave Moiraine pause. No, you wouldn't. Only a full Sister could access the library of the Aes Sedai and only Browns could access every library in the Tower and likely outside.
You nodded. "It doesn't mean anything. I'm just a little further away."
"Where I have no way of keeping eyes on you."
You smirked. "Planning on sticking me in your room, Moiraine? Naughty and you know I'll not allow it," you retorted smoothly, raising your chin and faking a posh accent.
The woman's displeasure was broken by that and she smiled. She sighed. "I suppose you are capable, as proven not moments ago."
"But the attack was waged in secret," another voice added to your intimate conversation.
You both looked over to see this group's assigned Yellow, long brain trailing the arm gripping her satchel.
"Two Sisters and five Warders injured, all healed and none dead. But it came from all fronts." Brown eyes pierced you and she seemed cold and unfeeling, though she believed she knew all, you could tell. Another trait of the Aes Sedai? Nynaeve stepped into the room. "I felt two distinct conduits of nature, one very foreign." She reached out her hand, clad with a serpentine shaped metal ring encasing a stone the same color as her clothes. Her palm faced you, but you saw the ring when she retracted. Identical to Moiraine, but a different color stone. You hadn't cared to notice with Liandrin. "Both inside you. We only saw the One Power, but I felt the other."
You looked over at Moiraine, uneasy. Was exposure a bad thing? Why didn't all the Sisters know?
Moiraine stepped closer, almost in between you both. "Nynaeve, Sister, I spoke to you about the uniqueness of my guest."
The woman never diverted her eyes from you, like trying to solve a puzzle. "You did."
"She's also experiencing nightmares. They used to be a trigger for her One Power."
Nynaeve nodded again. She gripped her satchel again, but withdrew nothing, focusing on you still. Gradually, calmly, white wisps floated up in the air. They floated up you, separate but connected. It was an odd spin on the mists that had haunted you your entire life. The woman seemed to have enough for now and turned to leave, mists fading, without another word.
Suddenly, the tent encompassing you all was lifted up. You jumped and Moiraine looked up, surprised as well. "It appears we are moving on."

Warning?: Mental instability?
The sun had once again risen when Secily returned with firewood and an untelling pouch. She saw Nynaeve and dropped the logs. She ran up to the bound woman and held her face. She stared in awe, taking her in before removing the gag. "Nynaeve! What're you-?"
At the same time, Nynaeve started saying the redhead's name.
"Get back from her," came Lan's order.
Secily turned to face him. "Why is she tied up?" she demanded, reaching for the ties. His sword grazed her neck, making her stiffen and watch him carefully. "You won't because she wouldn't. She needs something from me, to know if yes I am or no I'm not, and you can't kill me until she knows."
Lan pulled his sword back and picked the girl up by her arm.
"Hey!"
"Let go of her!" Nynaeve barked.
Concerned at the aggression in the Wisdom's voice, Secily looked up at her. "I just established he won't hurt me."
"You established he won't kill you," Nynaeve commented.
Secily shook her head. "No, he can't take care of her and keep track of both of us. He needs me on his side, helping Moiraine. You're a healer!" she exclaimed, jumping in the seat Lan had placed her in. She sat beside the sleeping Sedai.
"Why would I help her?" Nynaeve asked coldly.
Secily examined the air, confused. Her forehead creased. "Because she needs it. And you are not cruel."
Nynaeve looked at Lan. "If I help her, she best give me the answers I want."
Lan slowly walked over to her, looming once close enough. "Are you really in a position to be making demands?"
Nynaeve looked up arrogantly. "It's not a demand, it's a threat." Secily covered her smile behind Lan's back. "She's gonna die without treatment." That dropped her smile. "You know that. I don't see another Wisdom around here. Do you?"
Lan took a sharp breath in, raising his chin. His eyes bored into Secily who would meet them.
"Secily is brilliant at knowing what helps a person, but I'm trained," Nynaeve continued to convince.
With a sigh, the Warder cut her loose, turning to face Secily. "Stay with her," he ordered, pointing with his finger in her face.
Secily glared at it before moving forward, going to bite.
He reacted well, pulling back in ample time. He glared before following the Wisdom into the woods.
*~*
Nynaeve knelt beside Moiraine, grinding what she needed in a small, gold colored, metal mortar. She uncovered the woman's wound, leaning into it before pausing, looking at the man. "I've heard about the bond between an Aes Sedai and her Warder, that you feel what she feels." It was almost a question, but he gave no answer. "So get ready, because this is going to hurt." She applied some pressure to the side of the wound and Moiraine grunted once, flinching in pain. Green pus leaked from the wound. It was revolting and Secily was sure she'd puke later, but she didn't dare lose this learning moment. Nynaeve tried to soak up as much as she could before scattering the ground poultice into the wound. She covered it and stood, stepping away.
Lan knelt beside the woman once more, fretting like a mother.
Nynaeve looked on in sympathy. Helplessness, she understood in a way. "Now we give it time."
*~*
Time passed and little changed. Nynaeve was checking the wound more frequently now, not only concerned, but impatient. She could see from the way Secily was shaking, she was eager to follow the others as well. As she checked the wound again, she finally explained to Lan, "The poison... it's not like anything I've seen before." A small noise drew their attention to her, but Lan looked out, away. "I worry it..." She couldn't finish.
Lan suddenly turned away, calling gruffly, "I'll be back."
Nynaeve watched in alarm. "Where are you going?" She raced after him, sassing, "What happened to watching my every move?"
Lan froze staring. He mounted his horse and pulled her up behind him. "Fine. Secily. Stay with her." He pointed at her firmly. "Keep-"
Secily waved her hand. "Her safe, yeah, yeah."
Nynaeve and Lan rode off.
*~*
Night had fallen and the duo still hadn't returned. Secily had a fire started and some kindling nearby to keep it going all night, if needed. One knee pulled to her chest, she watched the fire with feral eyes. "It's okay," she was mumbling to herself a bit like a child. "Shh," she hushed as if someone else was there. "It's okay. You and me. It's just us. You and me. Don't make a sound," she mumbled, ironically speaking it. "...Don't cry or they'll hear you," she whispered hauntedly. "It's just you and me. Alone in the quiet." She rocked a bit. "Perrin will follow Egwene out of responsibility, guilt; Laila. Mat would follow Rand to the edge of the world. Where's Rand?" Her foot bounced anxiously and her other leg bent to almost curl around her ankle. Her eyes glazed over and she stared at the forest around them. "Shh-hh-hh," she hushed herself when an animal screamed in the woods. "Shh, you and me. Quiet and alone." She put her forehead on her knee, rocking again. "Need to find Rand," she refocused herself. "He'll go after Egwene. She believes Moiraine." She nodded, coming to a conclusion. "Can't go home, if she's right. Shouldn't if she's wrong. Can't go home." She raised her head, looking at the woods dejectedly. "She's going to the Tower. So Rand will as well." She propped her chin on her knee. "Looks like I'm sticking with Moiraine and her White Knight."
The subtle sound of movement behind her made her turn around and she saw deep, dark eyes boring into her, like a light had just gone off in the Sedai's mind.
"You're awake," she commented. "Feel better?" she asked, looking her up and down with surprisingly coherent eyes.
Moiraine held out her arm, pulling the front of her cloak with the other.
Secily shook her head. "You need sleep. I need to watch." She turned to face the woods again.
"Secily," the brunette called softly, gently. Don't startle the child, because, right now, she was a child. And maybe that wasn't a bad thing. It just meant something had happened and Moiraine felt a responsibility to them, these kids. More than needing them and searching for 20 years, she did yank them from home and they'd been through a lot in the past few days. This girl, clearly a great deal longer. "Come here."
The redhead took a deep breath before laying back, beside her, and staring at the stars.
The brunette smirked down at her behind her vision. "Well, we'll freeze like that."
"They'll be back soon," Secily mumbled in argument, but cozied up to the older woman nonetheless. When an arm fell around her waist, she brought one of her own up to prop on Moiraine's shoulder, careful of the wound. She shut her eyes, listening to their surroundings carefully. A few sounds made her heart jump, but her brain eventually fuzzed and focused on the ambient noise. She slept in the woods usually. When she wanted to sleep well, she'd sleep on the floor beside Rand's bed, back home. It was one of the rare times she ventured back. She'd not slept well in some time. There was a person with her, a fire at their feet, and she was so tired. Her spine lost a fraction of its tension and her face started to smooth out, worry wrinkles fading to make her look much younger than she was.
"You're falling asleep," Moiraine said to the dozing girl, watching carefully. "Drifting right where you need to." She made sure to keep her voice calm. Cheery and strange as the girl was, the Aes Sedai recognized the wildness that occurred anytime her guard was down and a loud noise was made. Also, she needed to keep her asleep while awake. Testing. She brought her hand to entwine in red hair, moving down slowly. "I'll bet you're floating." It was cleaner than she expected, but Secily always was, somehow. Even after the battle at Two Rivers, she'd disappeared for maybe 30 seconds and came back looking like one of the few people still together in the village. "Let it take you. No thoughts. Just let yourself drift. Clear your mind of everything. No hunger, no woods, no one here... but you and me," she echoed the mantra Secily had used. She felt something in the young woman relax and she gave the brunette all of her weight. The fingers fisted by her shoulder slowly unclenched and she was holding her hand over the wound unconsciously. Golden dust drifted over her fingers, nothing like the Channeling Moiraine was familiar with. But it looked almost exactly like the silver mist she knew. It was simply golden instead. Another mystery, something else to take into consideration. She had to restrain the gasp as she felt the soothing warmth emanating from her shoulder now. "Let it take you. Surrender. Let yourself drift. Drift." It was almost done now. No need of other Sedai after a few more moments of guidance. They could dedicate their time to finding the other ta'veren and not making nice with her sisters for a time longer.
Hoofbeats startled Secily back into wakefulness and she shot up, turning to look over her shoulder. She looked back down at the woman who was restraining a groan.
Lan's voice redirected them. "I found what we're looking for. Can she ride?" The last statement was directed at Nynaeve.
Nynaeve got down, approaching the Sedai. "The poultice will give her energy for a few hours, maybe more. But after that...." She sighed, shaking her head. They hadn't realized Moiraine was awake. The Two Rivers ladies helped the Sedai to stand and Lan took over as Warder once more.

At the inn it didn’t take too long to tell that something was wrong with one of these young men, and the two Aes Sedai quickly found the reason for what it was – the dagger, that Mat took from the doomed city. Lan held him down as the women worked their way around the true power in an attempt to free him as much as possible from the relic.
Moiraine pulled the darkness from his mouth and Helena levitated the knife far from the infected boy. Their other two hands hovered around each other's. The Dark magic passed over Moiraine's mouth before following her other arm. It stuck to Helena's hand, trying to travel down her arm, before it was forced over to the knife. The item was re-bound and Helena dropped it. Igraine picked up the weapon, dropping it into a lock-box the two Sedai quickly enchanted to contain it and its shadow's reach. Moiraine wandered outside while Helena stepped over to the Dark-infected boy. She placed her hand on his forehead, a gentle mist dissolving into the air, and color flooded his face. She stepped out after Moiraine and found the boy towering over the woman despite being several feet away. Dear Light, was he tall.
"So... it was just the dagger then? He's not..."
"I don't know," Moiraine answered. She explained his draw to the Darkness and the likewise draw from it.
Nynaeve stepped up behind them along with an Ogier. Both Sedai bowed their heads in greeting, even as Nynaeve sassed them with her ignorance. "How did you find them?"
Helena frowned at the girl. "You knew they were here? And the condition of one of your own? And yet... you said nothing, did nothing to help."
"I tried-"
"And failed!" Helena cut off in a sharp shout. She took a quick breath. "You failed and you knew it. You could have killed that boy. How you are called a Wisdom, I cannot know." She shook her head, staring down the Wisdom with a sternness Nynaeve had not seen from her before.
Moiraine nearly felt satisfaction at it, if it weren’t for the serious condition the young man has been in. Without being parted from the dagger he would have had not longer than a couple of weeks, much more likely even less, and while she was fond of Nyneave’s eager to help and do things on her own she was also bothered by the ignorance that came with it. Such arrogance could cost lives. “If wisdom is the title you claim, then you better start using some.”
~*~
The sun was already low on the horizon when Moiraine brushed her hand over her lover’s shoulder to signalize her it was time to go. They have sat in the gardens for some time by them, enjoying one of the few assets the White Tower had to offer. A calm place, used by mostly the brown Ajah, but sometimes visited by those who seeked privacy and peace far from the noises of the world behind the marble walls.
The blue Ajah was sitting with her back against a tree, the younger woman leaning against her, far enough to make it look less intimate, but still close enough. Her head was sticking in a heavy book, reading silently, which Moiraine didn’t mind as she liked to take the time to collect herself for what was laying ahead.
She guided them both back to her room where she closed the door to their warders already standing there. She assumed Lan was the one telling Igraine where they would be.
The brunette twisted her fingers as she turned to the woman she loved. “I will see her now.” She paused. “Would you like to come with me?” She held out a hand to take the grey Ajah’s and pull her a little closer against herself. Siuan would not mind, Moiraine told herself, Helena knew enough already. And she too was bound to the rules of their world; if Siuan should ask her to remain silent over the subject, then Helena would have to. It wasn’t riskier than anything else of it.
"To speak with the Amyrlin? Privately?" A blush spread along with a faint smile. "I might combust," she admitted.
Moiraine smiled back down at her. "You have nothing to fear from her. I've told you, she's not at stern as she makes out."
"You'd know how she makes out," Helena grumbled. She gasped. "What's the social code for meeting an ex? Am I going to have to size her up? I can't size her up. You did that and look what happened to you. Also, she could knock me over by flicking my forehead."
The older woman laughed quietly, then shook her head: "Blood and ashes, you’re being far too anxious. Siuan won’t do shit to you, and you… you won’t either.” Her eyes hardened for just… a tiny moment. “It’s amusing how fast everyone forgot that she used to be a simple Aes Sedai not too long ago. Everyone is terrified of what she can do and treats her like a spoiled queen…but I can’t really get the picture of the twenty-year-old girl scrubbing floors out of my mind.” Moiraine shrugged, then turned from the memory. She sighed and focused again on Helena. More serious she told her: "I know you’re… not the most sure and comfortable with this, maybe, but the worst to happen is her ignoring you. I know, not very bright expectations, but she won’t shout and definitely won’t hang you outside at the gates. But please, do me the favour and do not provoke her.”
She finished with a kiss on the younger woman’s forehead just moments before the door opened and their warders entered, starting both in already perfect tune a lecture. It ended with Igraine giving some glares that looked both deadly and with an undertone of ‘have fun’, and Lan cheekily asking them ‘to greet her’.
“If I didn’t know better then I’d say Lan and Igraine are perfect for another," the blue muttered, taking her love’s hand and pulling her to the opposite wall with her, where she summoned the magical portal to the little hut in the little fisher village where the Amyrlin was waiting already.

The palace was tall, though nowhere near the height of the White Tower. Just the thought of their former home sent a spike through Helena. They found the entrance to the Hall with little trouble as Lan was very familiar with Fal Dara. The Aes Sedai and their Warders stood side by side, though the more familiar pair walked ahead of the Grey and her blonde.
Fal Dara's Lord sassed Moiraine and the redhead nearly knocked him out for it, but she held firm. No need to fight battles for the woman who could clearly defend herself.
"A Lord," Moiraine sassed, showing her wisdom in dealing with nobility, "should protect his land as he sees fit." Still with all the comforts of knowing she was smarter than Lord Agelmar, Moiraine manipulated the man skillfully into doing exactly as she said. Was it a manipulation if it was truly for the best?
A little later, when they were shown their rooms, Moiraine gave Helena a glance from the side, all with attempting to let her know that at the end of the day they would be sharing a room, no matter the different hallways they were shown.
And so she expected by the time they all came to rest, that the grey Ajah would find her way back to her room, where she waited sitting on the freshly made bed in her underclothes, enjoying the warm breeze through the window against her skin, feeling like she could breathe for just a while without worrying. Time might be limited but… a few hours more, a few hours less… it didn’t appear to change anything. And there were things to talk about, even if she didn’t want that.
And so until a knock came she sat there and waited.
“Come in, Helena.” She knew it wasn’t anyone else. A man wasn’t allowed in the women’s quarters unless he had permission. None of the two river girl’s would require her time. And the sparkle of the source was strong around…whoever it was. It was Helena. She rose to meet her close after the door, her hands wrapping around her neck quickly, not hesitating to pull her near and met her lips with her own. She was desperate for this little taste of them, of life, of what she wanted it to be if she could choose now. Was it too late to wish for it? Of course it was. And when the dark-haired woman pulled away she put a hand under her love’s chin and raised her head a little to make her look her in the eyes. “I love you.” She put all the force she could into these three words. “More than I ever could love someone, my love.” She felt sentimental. More than she wished to. How long did they have? Some hours? One night? Maybe two? Not more. Moiraine smiled although she suddenly felt like something shattered somewhere.
Helena looked up those few inches at her with wet eyes. She smiled a little tightly before lunging forward, holding the woman tight. She brought her chin on Moiraine's shoulder, shaking with the strength she exerted to keep her there. Not that the Blue was fighting or had the intention to pull away. "If I loved you anymore than I already do, my heart would burst in its attempt to contain it."
~*~
They sacrificed every minute they could until their task needed to go on. When it was time the two Aes Sedai only wistfully left the bed their were curled up on, taking on their Ajah again and leaving the room, hands brushing against another while they walked, as they always have when they couldn’t afford more.
The heat of the blight was radiating over the country; it could be felt even in the afternoon breeze inside the walls of the city. It was no good change after weeks in the north-east, the mountains, the cool warmth of Tar Valon. There was nothing pleasant about the rotten land’s damp air.
Moiraine was about to allow her hand to slip into Helena’s. But she turned, like she needed to remind herself of who was following.
Behind them the young people from the two rivers followed, wearing expressions that couldn’t have been darker. Even Egwene’s enthusiasm appeared to be a little more dimmed. So if they followed, then not because they have rested enough, or were ready for anything, or wanted to, but because they mistrusted the two Aes Sedai leading them through this and were wary of what they could be up to.
The inn was fuller than expected at this time of the day.
Moiraine sighed when she gestured them to sit – it wasn’t received very well – and dragged Helena with her to the bar.
They caught the Seer's eye, no pun intended, very easily. She served the children to distract them even a little bit and returned to the two Sedai.
Moiraine, as ever, felt no need to explain to the pawns. Min already knew all she needed to, and likely more. "Any detail would be helpful, no matter how seemingly small."
Min continued to play bartender. "Quite invasive, this," she complained. "And I'd much rather talk about the weaving you two have done."
"Min," came a sharp retort from the Grey. While Blues were better trained for dealing with her, Helena had met her before and actively saved her ass one time. "Share time. No questions, no conditions, then we're even."
The woman nodded at them. "Do they know what I am?" she asked.
"That's a question."
Min downed her shot, huffing at the surprisingly stern stare. She shifted her eyes to the side, looking intently. "The big brooding one has...."
"They're both big," Moiraine cut in bitingly. "And they both brood."
Deadpanning a stone wall, Min turned back to the group. "The one on the left..."
"Egwene's traveling companion," Helena muttered to herself to keep it straight.
"...has yellow eyes, blood running down his chin. And the redhead is rocking a baby."
"Whose?" Moiraine asked simply.
Min shook her head, taking another shot. "No idea. Looks like any other baby."
"And the girls?"
"White flame... and a ring of.. gold. I don't know."
Moiraine and Helena sighed. What useless information.
"But they're all connected."
"Is that unusual?" Moiraine demanded, in full recon mode.
Min shook her head.
"Very." She looked over at the couple again. "They're important to the Pattern is all I know."
Moiraine was still working. "Are any of them more important than the others?"
The blue Ajah opened her lips to ask the next question when Helena was already leaning forward, asking: "Do you have anything for us? For me?” It fitted the grey’s enthusiasm that she asked without hesitation. Min stared a long time at the young Aes Sedai before she looked away again, her hands reaching another time for the bottle to fill glasses: "Did you know that you’ve been connected to them? One of them – the one with the red hair –“ she made clear this time before Moiraine had the chance to snap “you and he are… it’s a pattern. The same pattern of ornaments and waves in the source.”
The seer starred again. Then she shrugged like it didn’t matter much. “I might be wrong but…you aren’t from the place you think you are from. Neither is he. Did you know?”
She didn’t leave a time to answer before turning to Moiraine, an eyebrow raised: "Did you?”
The blue Ajah looked shortly to Rand, then to Helena. She wasn’t sure if she could follow this or not.
“The Amyrlin," Min started again, giving the blue another long look, holding on, then adding, “You and your friend.” It was clear that she meant Helena. “There’s a downfall. But she’s changing it.” Min then added: "Is Siuan alright? The last time I thought… why is she not-“
“The Amyrlin is in perfect health. Thank you, this will be all.” Moiraine tugged on Helena’s sleeve. On the way out, leaving their company from the two rivers behind, she asked: "Is there any chance you missed telling me something?” It didn’t seem important. Until it was. There must have been more to the wheel’s running than letting Helena cross their path simply out of coincidence. In this whole war against the darkness there haven’t been any coincidences in twenty years. It must have a reason, and Moiraine needed to know.
"We have other things to worry about, four stalker babies, to start with. We can talk about... broody and whatever later." Helena pressed her fingertips to her lips, holding them out to the Blue with a twitch to keep their affections private, but still show.

WoT B1C15: Nynaeve! :D
Rand and co have a day out in Baerlon and make a bit of a pig’s ear of it. Rand meets a girl called Min who knows Lady Rain and can see things around people. She tells him a lot of symbolic stuff and then vanishes. He bumps into the peddler from the village, who did not die, and lets slip to him that Lady Rain is in town. Then Mat pulls a mud-related prank on some Children of the Light, and Rand ends up talking back to them in front of everyone. So much for lying low. Mat and Perrin also had the dreams. They tell Thom, who agrees it’s bad but says not to tell Lady Rain. They get back to the inn to find an emergency: Nynaeve has tracked them down!
Long chapter, many things. Long chapters are likely to get shorter summaries, actually, to focus on just a couple of interesting things and not end up retelling the whole story.
I hope we see more of Min, because she immediately came off as brilliantly chaotic neutral, said a whole lot of stuff which is probably going to be prophetic and relevant later but I am going to forget, and just for bonus points is also super butch. I am here for this. She also laughs in a loud and unsettling manner. She’s not an Aes Sedai, but according to Lady Rain she has some kind of magical ability in a sideways sort of way. She looks at a person and sees things about them – like being able to tell when two people will end up married, before they’ve even met. She says Rand and Egg both fancy each other but are fated to not be together, and Egg is fated to become an Aes Sedai. All good things, I like this person.
Rand is really terrible at the whole Secrecy thing, and I would put money on the peddler going to the Children of the Light about Lady Rain. There’s some implication that the bad dream, which was clearly more than that, is having some kind of effect on him; he gets spacey and reckless and isn’t in full control of himself. As a result, he sasses the Children of the Light, who therefore accuse him of being evil. They’re exactly as much fun as everyone has been saying they are.
About the dream. Okay. Mat and Perrin had the same dream, possibly different in detail but basically the same. In the dream, the Dark One kills a rat by breaking its back. That morning, the inn was full of dead rats with broken backs. The boys are understandably freaked out. Thom Merrilin also confirms that some of the name drops the Dark One made are men who did terrible things hundreds or thousands of years ago. So it was real, for some given value of ‘real’. They’re now worried that if they tell Lady Rain, she’ll kill them on grounds of being nascent evil. Which is not a completely unjustified fear.
That all three have the same dream is interesting. They’re all being chased because they’re all the right age to fulfil this prophesy thing, and if they’re all getting the dreams that suggests that either the Dark One really has no better way of working out who the Chosen One is, or they are all three Chosen Ones. Maybe this is a Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom situation, prophesy-wise?
I just re-read my summary of chapter 9, where Rand has another dream involving the Dark One, and it appears that he has at least two names. Which makes sense for a millennia-old force of pure evil, and is a nice touch.
Chapter highlight: Nynaeve! She followed them, badgered the ferryman into rowing her across the river, and has arrived in Baerlon! Lady Rain is immediately pissed off! Maybe someone will get thumped with the Stick of Anger! Nynaeve!
