I'm currently playing/watching You vs Wild, which is this Bear Grylls interactive thing on Netflix - I'd recommend it, but that's not the point. The point is that in episode 7, Bear is in the 'land of the dragons', a very pretty and apparently survival worthy place, and one of the main problems is that there's wolves that bear has to avoid. At one point, he comes face to face with one, and you have to choose to either fight it or run. The reason that I find this quite so hilarious is that I've been to the land of the dragons and it's in Wales. There are no wolves in Wales. There are no wolves anywhere in the UK. Bear is clearly facing off with someone's dog that isn't big enough to be a wolf and is wagging it's tail.

Here we have Bear vs the "wolf" (ie a wolf dog). It's probably an acting dog, most likely from the Watermill Wolves company who are in most of the UK based films/shows with "wolves" in them.

However the mental image of someone's dog randomly turning up during filming and saying hello to Bear and his team is a very funny one.

Hi!

I've had this idea bouncing around in my head for a while, but I'm not the best at writing.

How would Vincent or Bo react to an S/O that came into town and was just a complete southern belle ? Maybe a bit ditsy but overall well meaning patient and kind. Like grew up pretty rural as well but maybe ended up moving to the city for college and finding out it wasn't really for her, so she's on a road trip back home and maybe gets lost. Some accident happens and she ends up in ambrose. Kinda similar to what happens to Allison in Tucker and Dale vs Evil if you've ever seen that movie? Without her friends of course 😅.

I always thought it would be interesting to put them next to someone who just completely contrasts there personally. They do say opposites attract!

I think Bo would get the most amusement out of this situation. As much as he abuses women and forces them to be with him (Like tying Carly up in his murderfuck dungeon) he would absolutely love to have someone come to him willingly. Would feed his fantasy of having a normal life with a normal lover that wants him and treats him like a person.

He would absolutely dial up the charm and get you flustered and would flirt outrageously. Soak in you helplessness and sweetness before the real horrors begin.

Vincent would still be extremely cautious. Learning from a young age that wolves hide in sheep clothing. that just because someone smiles sweetly at him doesn't mean they want to be his friend. Would absolutely wait for the other shoe to drop and will sometimes, if worked up enough, strike before you even get a chance to prove or disprove his expectations. Forcing you to be his muse and greet him with that same sweetness or else face his displeasure.

If he's in a better mood then he might even try to sway you with pictures he's painted or sketched, scripts of poetry scrawled neatly on the bottom, and wildflowers appearing on the hood of your car where you're sleeping or outside the door of the room in their house that was so graciously offered to you.

When Vincent falls, he falls hard, and nothing will change his mind about making you his in every single way he knows how. Almost taking advantage of your ditsy behavior and sweet demeanor to make you stay with him.

as much as it's frustrating how only two of the umi episodes were penned by Sayo in the irl layer, I think it's fascinating to compare them with each other because so much becomes clear when you look at the writing choices in each one side by side

the specific ways in which Legend and Turn differ from each other makes me certain that one was among the first message bottles she wrote whereas the other was one of the last, but it's not clear which is which -- it depends on how you interpret her internal journey and process of creating all these tales and fragments. Sayo's writing as a whole is very marked by her personal observations of the sins and struggles of the family and using them as mirrors to actually write about herself, using characters as stand-ins that give voice to her own inner thoughts, but both stories are very different in tone and approach

Legend feels almost methodical with the ways the murders and illusions are carried out, and the way her resentment manifests is more controlled, understated. you need to wring it around a bit more to 'see', but in my understanding: it's interesting how the 3 cousins are all made to suffer incredible grief losing their parents and love interests in quick succession (Battler being the only adult cousin who only lost his parents and not a love interest feels important to get him to remember!), but they live until the end then get invited to the Golden Land and choose to resurrect their lost love. By contrast, Natsuhi is put through the wringer through and through while being given the opportunity to be the star of the episode with her struggles as a woman taking the center of the stage, only to lose a duel (!) to Beatrice and be denied entry in the very last moment. there's a lot of conflicting emotions all over the place in both cases which is of course very characteristic of Sayo but I'm fascinated by how the cousins' entire role in this episode is to lose everything they had, experience earth-shattering grief and be led towards a romanticized afterlife where they can heal that grief, making the choice to resurrect the love that was lost, whereas Natsuhi's role is to mirror and portray Sayo's actual interiority and struggles (many that were caused by Natsuhi herself!) that went unspoken her whole life and then be challenged to a duel and get shot. to shoot Natsuhi is to shoot herself. shooting her actual personhood and interiority and struggles to death. as a metaphor for the entire ceremony of Beatrice's revival being a suicide in order to pass on into the afterlife where compartmentalized parts of herself can simultaneously exist as whole and find happiness with their respective love interests. the final step of rejecting reality, seeking love by truly becoming fictional while the human heart of the actress behind the characters dies buried between the lines of the text unless you 'see' it. god she makes me insane. anyway

Turn by comparison is very brutal. Beatrice steps onto the gameboard and is at her cruelest here, and the deliberate narrative choices are dripping with anger, helplessness and sorrow. everything about the focus given to Rosa in her role as the main accomplice who only had eyes for gold vs the framing of the tragedy as the gift of a halloween party for Maria, the wolves and sheep allegory, the way Shannon and Kanon get repeatedly kicked around for trying to resist their fate and wanting to believe in love despite everything. Kanon's "corpse" being desecrated by being forcefully resurrected twice, not being allowed death. the barely contained sexual conflict and trauma in the themes and imagery all over the episode. the way Sayo personally kills Jessica and George and her personas are killed along with them, an utter rejection of the possibility of being loved in reality as something that can only happen in death and fiction, so they all get to die together and be connected by their souls, all portrayed as the innocent victims of a vicious witch. the unspoken horror of one of the few true closed rooms in the game, with Sayo physically killing herself while facing herself in the mirror after doing all that. no one could dispute that a coffin is a closed room. and with closed rooms in this game often symbolizing being trapped in your own logic even though the door was unlocked all along, it absolutely stands for Sayo giving up all hope. Beatrice won, the gold won, the family's curse won, Sayo's worst feelings regarding herself won. Kinzo won too, even as a dead puppet haunting the narrative, he 'lives' to the end and gets his miracle of meeting Beatrice granted again. just that says a lot. Turn is horror after horror and you can only fully grasp that with the context for her writing choices

Legend feels relatively composed and deliberate in its choices of allegory. it also carries a lot of pain and conflicted feelings (particularly with the way she hatewrote Battler in it) but the text in Turn is basically bleeding all of her self hatred and suicidality and conflict over the idea of being loved. Legend is for the most part a straightforward mystery embellished in illusions with her heart still very baked into the text, and it has a big focus on solvability (Eva as the main accomplice basically points Battler toward the solution... which he rejects) and gambling/risk-taking, with multiple moments where Sayo left things out of her hands and up to chance, making it so that she could've been stopped even by accident. and then Turn is basically an eruption of all the horrible feelings churning in her heart. it says a lot that in Legend, she left the people she loved the most alive until the end, as if hoping until the very end for the miracle that at least one of them would see through her and stop her from murdering them, while Turn kills off the cousins (barring Battler due to being the detective) and then herself before the ceremony even ends, destroying all outcomes beyond utter annihilation. Turn is absolutely about her surrendering and leaning right into the illusion she casts on herself of being an irredeemable monster, so Beatrice absolutely plays into that role here. fitting that it ends with Battler surrendering, too

the sheer tonal contrast between these two message bottles tells a story of the journey of how Sayo's mental state changed as she kept writing and running over her murder-suicide plans over and over again -- it can either show her hope and composure deteriorating as she resigned herself to accepting her dead-end of fate (Legend -> Turn) OR the raw emotion she felt in the beginning of the writing frenzy dissipating as she kept going, any result being a satisfactory outcome but still focusing on planning out a difficult but fair mystery, staking her hopes onto the miracle of having it solved by the person who shared her personal philosophy on mysteries (Turn -> Legend). I don't like relying on Confessions too much as "confirmation" of Sayo-related things because it doesn't sit well with me, but if you go by the way it portrayed the process, then it strongly suggests the latter explanation

wish we could have seen more of the countless tales she personally wrote because you can see so much of her personhood hidden within the text, her thought processes, personal views and authoral voice all providing characterization, but the two we got already tell entire untold stories. it's funny that the two first episodes are usually thought of as the least interesting ones on a first read when they're the ones with the most firsthand insight into the culprit's heart and how she felt about everything. the sorrows and pain but the strength of will and hope too

Anthropomorphic animal lore (subject to change)

I have been putting off this explanation because it's been daunting to try and fully illustrate it, so i am going to sketch and infodump this out. beware of mistakes or things that don't make sense yet x,O

anthro: humanoid body plan animal

feral: regular animal body

There are 3 main anthro species in my cotl au

Unguibus: "clawed people" canines, felines, rabbits, rodents, ect.

Ungulates: "hooved people" deer, cows, elephants, ect.

Avians: "bird people" self explanatory

All of these anthros are omnivorous, although some require more meat in their diet than others. Main sources of meat in these lands would be large, animalistic insects (like the enemies seen ingame), and feral (non-anthro) species: fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds (will be explained later)

This cannon exists in a mountainous and forested biome with valleys, rivers, and a coastline. Animals that naturally live in these biomes will be seen as colonies, villages, towns, camps, settlements, ect. in this universe. So if you wanted to see elephant people, hippo people, maned wolves, tropical avains, ect. You would need to travel out of the lands. Instead you'll find coyotes, foxes, deer, sheep, raccoons, eagles, ect.

Lands in the old faith that have been affected by their ruling bishops, however, will have different biomes and new people.

Unguibus and Ungulates evolved from their original (feral) forms due to unknown divine intervention: (they used to look like regular animals)

Ungulate and Unguibus groups hunted and ate eachother throughout their evolutionary history. They have joined together, and fought each-other all across the world. The majority of species reserve their own cultural backgrounds and histories, and stigmas to match.

Many of these species have completely different gender identities/roles and cultural norms, which I will explore in sheepfolk and catfolk soon!

For a random stigma example, cats may be called "rat eaters" due to some groups of catfolk's persecution and consumption of ratfolk and other rodent unguibus in the past.

Ungulates of species that are known to scavenge on small animals and carcasses in real life, have eaten smaller "prey" anthros in my cannon. For example, irl deer sometimes eat small animals- so in my cannon, some groups of deerfolk have worked alongside predatory anthro species that used to hunt them, like canines, in order to hunt other anthros.

Other species like sheep lived more docile lives of farming, and some avian or catfolk groups may have only fished, ect. ect.

Most of this is speculative background ideas that won't be looked into that much, because now that magic and cults have taken over and anthros have become more accustomed to living in towns and developing technology, things have mixed together enough for species differentiation to matter less and less over time. Especially in Lambi's cult.

Domestic species like dogs, cats, sheep, ect. exist either because of population isolation or selective racial purity. (yikes i know)

Subspecies exist due to geological location and habitat (ex: indian wolf vs gray wolf, brown bear vs sun bear, ect,)

Species differentiation will eventually only matter for reproduction. Foxes, wolves, coyotes and dogs can interbreed because they are all canines but a zebra and a lion could not. The world will eventually melt together and the concept of visible subspecies and breeds will be history, but i'm getting ahead of myself-

Due to the rise of deities in the lands of the old faith, there are new anthro people emerging from the likeness of the bishops.

I will have to dive into these individual species and what they look like much much more in the future. This post was a bit of a huge fucking mess of me trying to get out my thoughts.

Considering that Unguibis and Ungulates have gone completely anthro, you might be wondering why birds and reptiles can be found feral and anthro in this universe? Bird anthros were created alongside the rise of gods in order to aid them. For example, Clauneck and Kudaai. Althrough this plan did not follow through fully, as there are plenty of individual avians that lived with their own ideas, acting as regular mortals do. Reptiles had a similar treatment, although it must've been even less effective, considering flinky has no humanoid body. Most of this is going to be left up to speculation.

Another thing I will get into besides sheep vs cat gender & culture is "turned" anthros. Which are the main enemies Lambi will fight. The turning of an anthro, and the nature of your physical form changing to suit your god will also explain Forneus's size and age, Clauneck and Kudaai's size & faces, why heretics on crusades.. look like the way they do...ect.

WHOO. ALL DONE RANTING! This is might have a few contradictions in it, but I needed to vomit all of this out in SOME way. It's so hard to communicate this without dedicating all my time to world building instead of character exploration & narilamb.

All of this blurb exists because of my love for spec bio, xenofiction, and some neurodivergent need for furry media to make biological and ecological sense with their species choices because 90% of the time it does not.

i was watching danaduchy's video about companions' disapproval the other day and oooof the one from vivienne.

[vivienne: there are only people, people who must share a world which is not parted equally among all. wolves cannot live peacefully among sheep, no matter how much they regret being wolves.

the inquisitor: it doesn't matter the world isn't fair. we should make it fair.

vivienne: fair to whom? the wolves howl and claw at the fences that hold them back. take pity, and you let them loose among the lambs.]

i can understand what her point is, initially. i'm not the one who thinks that she's the icy lady who cares for no one as some folks might do. i understand that the concern she's expressing is “mages, who have never seen freedom and have never been taught how to live in the world because they never were supposed to live there, are now free, and non-mage people are scared of them, and this may lead to fights, or to purges of these mages, to them being either killed or possessed.”

but the way this concern is expressed illustrates way more besides just care for her own kind (and they are her kind after all).

the base of her thought is reasonable, mages are indeed not used to the way of life outside the circle, other people are indeed scared due to the chantry propaganda. but vivienne suddenly jumps from that to calling mages natural predators, basically. someone whose nature is preying on the lambs, i.e. All Other People. they cannot get rid of this side of themselves whatever their choices are.

she says there are only people, there is no such thing as “her kind”, no us vs them, and this may be understandable, but then she separates these very people in two different categories herself. wolves whose nature is violence, pure cruelty, damaging everything and everyone they can if they're not controlled, and innocent lambs who cannot defend themselves agaisnt such violent beings. mages are suddenly not in a category of “only people sharing the world”. they're the embodiment of evil, and defenseless lambs had to create the whole system of oppression to protect themselves. because, you know, it is what these lambs apparently have resources to do.

i can see all this hidden care they weaved into her character underneath that cold and tough attitude, i'm not a vivienne hater, but another thing i see here is pure arrogance and her looking down upon others. and overall it's just a very unsettling point of view, but it's also just me, someone who's seen enough “they're natural predators” in their life being queer and trans, so i'm instantly disturbed by these thoughts.

Ji Woon is back from a long 'vacation'. He was still in the outside world where most of the humans come from. Lucas simply forgott to drag him back in the fog.

He started to worrie for his friends after a while of beeing back in the real world and seeing his father again and all. So he went to look for a way back into the fog. He found a way to his surprise.

Ji Woon opens the lab door as if he was never gone. Glancing carefully over to Exy, he doesn't want to disturb him during any risky experiments. He speaks after he was sure that nothing will blow up if he speaks. "Evening, any new results with your work?"

it's really fitting and a very fun coincidence (since it's entirely a fan thing based on how greg just looks and never alluded to in-universe) that the dog that greg gets most compared to is a borzoi, since they were bred for hunting wolves. and when you have the overall context of the Succession Dog Metaphor Allegations... yknow like wolves vs sheep, the beast that came before man, the roys vs the world, greg now being tom's attack dog etc etc....... yes greg IS that new world domesticated dog that, reared and tamed and employed by tom, will rip those he came from limb from limb :)

I have no idea what kosmemophobia is, but to me, Eddie is that kind of deviant person that I'd love to be if only I were more self-assured and wouldn't care about other people's opinions. And I think Mike and I are not the only ones that think of Eddie as some kind of role model.

At the end of the day, Eddie is the personification of what most high school "deviants" are: free spirits who bristle at being told to conform, but who are just nice people with a rough exterior. Eddie's "fuck off" behavior is a protective shield formed over years of being mocked.

The real dangerous people are the ones who pretend to be nice. Just look at Angela.

hey there! I wanted to request a headcanon / hear your perspective on how Sandor views himself as a person? I noticed that his thoughts are very inconsistent- he tries to scare Sansa into thinking that he’s a wild and scary dog unworthy of praise and honor, but when The Brotherhood and Arya questioned his morals he was quick to get defensive and immediately tried to justify his more amoral actions and behavior. I love how George sets up the conflict and juxtaposition between the identities of “The Hound” vs Sandor Clegane, but I want to see what you thought from a more personal perspective! I love how you write Sandor btw omg, you have such a great understanding of the character 😭

I went back and forth on how to tackle this question because, in some ways, I view Sandor as highly consistent.

Sure he tries to scare Sansa, but it's not only with the goal for her to see him as wild and scary, but that the world is a wild and scary place unworthy of praise and void of honor. A telling scene is from A Clash of Kings when Sandor runs into her on the battlements with the threat of Stannis Baratheon looming over King's Landing.

"What evil?" he laughed. "What gods?"

"The gods who made us all."

"All?" he mocked. "Tell me, little bird, what kind of god makes a monster like the Imp, or a halfwit like Lady Tanda's daughter? If there are gods, they made sheep so wolves could eat mutton, and they made the weak for the strong to play with."

"True knights protect the weak."

He snorted. "There are no true knights, no more than there are gods. If you can't protect yourself, die and get out of the way of those who can. Sharp steel and strong arms rule this world, don't ever believe any different."

Sansa backed away from him. "You're awful."

His speech to the Brotherhood without Banners is similar. Sandor doesn't claim that he is good, but rather that the men that are trying to pass judgment onto him are no better themselves.

But wait, considering his views, isn't protecting Arya Stark a complete contradiction? She was weak and defenseless compared to him. Well, not necessarily. We often hear and read what Sandor Clegane thinks the world is, not what he wants it to be. He wants Sansa Stark's songs to be true... but the songs are all lies, and the little bird must learn before the world plucks all her feathers.

So how does he view himself? Not great, and that is a point of pride. Strutting about with a bloated ego is for knights, not him. At the beginning of A Game of Thrones, Sandor doesn't have much self-hatred. Instead, it's directed outward. Against the brother that burnt him, against his family that looked the other way, and the world that continuously rewarded Gregor and the rest of his ilk. Sandor still carved out something for himself, becoming the sworn sword of the Crown Prince. So what if he did cruelty? It was by his prince's command, and he has no place to question orders. Whining about his duties won't change them, someone else would take his place, and at least he knows he can do the job well and so Sandor has. It was easy enough, being cruel to a cruel world.

Then they came, the Starks with their bloody honor and a stubbornness only northerners could harbor. Their world was harsh enough... yet it wasn't cruel. The Lord of Winterfell was a just man, an honorable man, and a fool to travel south. The wolf and lion turned enemies to no one's surprise and Tywin Lannister dealt with the Starks as he had those before them. Sandor could have stomached that war but it was the rest. The little bird was to be His Grace's wife, the mother of his children. Family. Yet Joffrey toyed with Lady Sansa, reveling in her suffering.

Here is where Sandor's self-hatred grows severely. He is part of Sansa's torture. A girl that mirrors the boy he once was, but now he is taking the part of Gregor. He stomachs it as long as he can, finally reaching a breaking point at Blackwater.

I totally agree with your point on the juxtaposition of the Hound vs Sandor Clegane. It's the realist vs the dreamer, duty vs want, what is vs what should be.

Sandor's mindset is something I explore in my series on Ao3. Parts of the story are written from his perspective.
