for whatever reason i just find it fvckin hilarious in the firefly episode where the guy working for niska is being so dramatic like ‘i will hunt you to the ends to the earth and the blade of my knife will be the last thing you will see’ and mal’s just like ‘darn’ and kicks him into the spinning engine like lol you dead
and when he does it with the other guy working with niska and he’s just like ‘YUH UH HUH ILL GET HIM THE MONEY oh god please don’t kill me-‘

"But Cap'n it's the Neon Moon festival!" Kaylee exclaimed, her eyes wide and pleading. "Can't we just stay a li'l while longer?"
Mal frowned, swallowing his tasteless bite of protein.
"The what festival?"
"The Neon Moon festival. One week ever year the planet's two suns and the only moon align, causing the moon to be extra bright. There's usually a big celebration at the beginning... of the... week..." Simon trailed off, aware that the whole dinner table was staring at him in varying degrees of fondness and hate. He flushed and looked down at his food, missing Kaylee's starry eyed look.
Mal closed his eyes and sighed.
"Kaylee-"
"Aww, please Cap'n? Serenity ain't entirely fixed yet-"
"I thought-"
"- and it'll take at least another day or two for her to be right again. Please?"
"Come on, Captain," Book said, laying down his utensils, "let the kids have some fun."
Mal shook his head, denial clear on his face.
"The Alliance-"
"The nearest Alliance presence is the Reliant two planets over," Zoë off-handedly said, ignoring the Captain's wounded look.
"Mutiny. Y'all are-"
"I heard there's some good company near the town square iffin ye catch my drift." Jayne wiggled his eyebrows much to Mal's disgust.
"Jayne. Don't ya ever-"
"Do you want to go shopping with me River?" Inara asked, ignoring Mal's spluttering. The Captain was getting really annoyed at being ignored.
The girl nodded eagerly, her mouth full.
"Can I-"
"Maybe we can find you a slinky dress lamby-toes," Wash leaned in to whisper to his wife. She smiled and pecked his cheek.
The conversation rose and reached a crescendo and Mal had had enough.
"Bi zui!"
Everyone looked at him with wide eyes, the only sound the humming of Serenity's engine.
"Fine! Y'all can go to the festival! Just, just stop with the telling, I don't want to know."
Slowly the conversation trickled back and Mal turned to Zoë.
"Ya planned this, didn't you?"
She smiled and nodded at Book.
"I had some help."
"Relax, Captain," Book said, his eyes sparkling, "I'll be sure to keep an eye on them."
Mal nodded, satisfied, and turned back to his flavourless meal.
Maybe, it wasn't such a bad idea. They could find some fresh stuff to eat at least. Anything would be better than what was on his plate.

Wash: Psychic? That sounds more like science fiction.
Zoe: We live on a spaceship, dear.

Note
you like firefly? Neat
Yea definitely! Are you also into it?
I know some stuff has been revealed to be not great about Whedon and some stuff doesn’t age well, but honestly I really love some of his characterizations, especially Inara, Kaylee, and Book. A lot of the writing is beautiful too.
Do you like it? Do you have a favorite episode?

Firefly Episode Countdown!
1. Out of Gas
In this episode, while Serenity lies dead in the water, we flash back to what brought this crew together.
Tumblr media
And we have made it to the top of my list!  This episode is outstanding, and it often ends up at the top of “best-of” lists...and I would have to agree.  If I was ranking the episodes from best to worst, this would still take the number one slot.  And it’s interesting, because flashback episodes are difficult to get right, and can sometimes turn into clip shows...but not this one.
And the way the flashbacks are set up are fantastic...showing us where the crew’s story began, all while Serenity is floating in space with no life support, and we worry if we’ve come to the end of the story.
I absolutely adore that we got see the beginnings of this crew’s journey...I mean, we already knew that Mal and Zoe were in the war together, but seeing Wash, Jayne and Kaylee join the crew, and learning these little bits about their history feels like such a gift, especially since we got so little time with these characters.
Honestly, I don’t want to say too much more about this one...but it really shows this crew for who they really are: a family.  They joke, they fight, they care for and protect each other.  And it helps that the cast has some of the best chemistry I’ve ever seen in any show.
It’s such a perfect piece of television.

Shirley: What are we up to, sweetheart?
Abed: Fixing your Bible.
Shirley: I, um, what?
Abed: Bible's broken. Contradictions, false logistics - doesn't make sense.

drabble: firefly - jayne & book, southdown abbey
It’s the quiet that’s hardest to get accustomed to, even three years into his time at the abbey; Jayne don’t mind the clothes so much, though at first his Shepherd’s collar scratched tight and stiff around his neck, and for a time he missed the scent of gun oil and the weighty heft of a weapon in his hands, but it’s the quiet that still gets at him at times, the stillness of the herb gardens in the noonday heat, the air so still that not a blade of grass dares to stir, or in the resonant silence after the vesper bells finish ringing.
Jayne’s used to filling up the empty air with loud talk, bragging on old heists or the planning of new ones, but the longer he spends in his Shepherd’s robes, the more he grows accustomed to the quietness where words used to be, the easier he finds to hold a silence of his own.
They’ve been pulling weeds among the turnips and potatoes for hours, and not a word has passed between them until Shepherd Book glances his way, saying in that grave voice of his, “You’re awfully quiet today, Jayne.”
Jayne leans back, brushes clover and soil off his robes.  “Can’t hardly believe I made it here sometimes,” he confesses.  “I’ve done all manner of terrible things—sure ‘nough committed my share of violent crimes and the like.  I’ve been a black sheep, Shepherd, maybe the blackest one a man coulda been.  Don’t know why you folks so much as let me walk through them gates.”
But the Shepherd just throws his head back and laughs.  “Ah, well, Jayne,” he says, squinting up towards the sun,  “surely you must know by now that a black sheep is the rarest and most precious lamb of any shepherd’s flock.”
